!! Episode 5: Skived

Takes place on July 25-August 4

!!! Short version

The Team defeats Professor Ivo's "Amazo" robot, with Paul's help making it faster and easier (and leading to Professor Ivo's capture).

!!! Longer version

Paul has dinner with Alan, Diana, and Donna Troy -- whom he didn't know about until that day, and who didn't know about him until the day before, and who is dubious about Diana taking on another mentee. She relaxes a bit after talking with him more and finding out that Diana is merely supervising and teaching him a bit, not anything that would suggest he's Donna's replacement, and tentatively agrees to help Superboy train.

The following day, Paul and Superboy respond to a bridge collapse in Metropolis, and in the process meet Superman, who makes it clear that he is uncomfortable around Superboy and doesn't want to be involved with him. Paul approaches Wonder Woman for help, and she agrees to follow up with Superman.

The Team is then given a mission to escort the parts of a dangerous PowerCopying Amazo robot, defeated by the Justice League, to STAR Labs. Orange Lantern's involvement successfully protects one convoy, containing half the parts, but robotic monkeys are able to steal back the other half. The team pursues and destroys the partially-reconstructed Amazo, and Orange Lantern helps Kon to take down the villain responsible, Dr Ivo. Prompted by Ivo's criticism, Kon opens up to Orange Lantern about his feelings of inadequacy compared to Superman, and they share a hug.

The Renegade takes a different approach in the conversation with Wonder Woman, sharply criticising her and the League for failing to examine Superboy's health closely enough to identify that one of his genetic parents is Lex Luthor, or check his mind for telepathically implanted compulsions.

Equivalent canon episode: "Schooled". "Skived" is likely a reference to the SI scrambling to avoid attending school.
----
* AccidentalPervert: Paul asks his ring for information about Troia, who he'll probably be meeting that evening, and it is a bit too helpful, leaning toward stalkerish.
--> '''Paul''': Pffff. Any idea what she likes to eat?\
'''Ring''': Scanning Stacey residence. Genetic and food residue suggest that she likes cereal brand 'Lucky Charms'. Unable to specifically link other foodstuffs at the residence to the subject.\
'''Paul''': Did the ring just...?
* CurbStompBattle:
** Black Canary tries to teach Paul a lesson by having him keep his ring on during a spar. Since she previously took down Superboy and Kid Flash, this might have seemed reasonable at the time, but she doesn't last two seconds against a power ring.
** In canon, the MONQI robots were able to overcome both halves of the Team and steal all the Amazo parts. Orange Lantern, by contrast, disables the majority of their half by himself, collects the parts, and turns them into plasma pistols for the local police to use.
* FakeWeakness: When Paul is preparing to spar with Black Canary, he deliberately takes a clumsy stance, projects his constructs directly from the ring, and even [[CallingYourAttacks counts down to his attack]]. But she shouldn't have let him [[TrojanHorse put a barrier all around the arena]] -- supposedly in case he missed her and hit a wall, actually because it allowed him to extend constructs from any part of it. And of course he [[EvilOverLordList didn't actually wait until his countdown reached zero]].
* HoYay: Paul and Kon hugging is treated as this InUniverse.
* PowerCopying: The Amazo robot has this. It took the whole Justice League to bring it down - meaning that it had the opportunity to copy all their powers. Fortunately, it was only half rebuilt.
