''[[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons A show]] [[SelfDeprecation out of ideas]] [[{{Crossover}} teams up]] with [[WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}} a show]] [[CutShort out of episodes]].''

The long awaited animated crossover with ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''.

Springfield Elementary is making a [[TimeCapsule time capsule]] in which Bart throws a sandwich with his snot in it. That night at the Simpsons home, something drops from the air into their yard and sneaks into the house. It turns out to be Bender who doesn't remember why he's there. After some misadventures, Lisa takes Bender to Professor Frink who manages to reboot him where he reveals he's been sent back into the past to kill Homer for inadvertently causing an outbreak of mutated bunnies in the future. The rest of the Planet Express crew arrive in the past and, after some investigation, find out it was due to Bart's snot sandwich, Milhouse's lucky rabbit's foot, and the toxic waste falling into the capsule that gave rise to the creatures. Both groups return to the future and manage to lure the creatures into Madison Cube Garden and launch it into space. The Simpsons return to the present where Bender shuts himself down so he can return to the future the slow way.

Meanwhile on Omicron Persei 8, the creatures have landed on the planet just as Lrrr and Ndnd are entertaining Kang and Kodos.
----
!! This episode has the following tropes.

* AmbiguousGender: Kang and Kodos visit Lrrr and Ndnd on Omicron Persei 8. When Ndnd is stressed with all the Bart mutants overrunning the planet, Lrrr asks "the one of [them] that is female" to console her. Kang and Kodos look at each other and go over to her together.
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: As Lisa and the Planet Express crew celebrate the destruction of the Bart mutants:
-->'''Bart:''' You realize you're cheering the death of millions of my children.
-->''(more cheering ensues)''
* ArtEvolution: The Futurama characters have slightly different designs and colorization to better fit in the Simpsons setting, specifically their skin tones are more reddish.
* AscendedMeme: Bart Simpson's birthday being February 23rd was an urban legend that spawned on Twitter in 2011 with no canon evidence to back it up before this episode aired. [[https://www.vulture.com/2011/02/the-day-twitter-gave-birth-to-bart-simpson.html This article explains it.]]
* TheBait: When he hears someone (Bender) in the basement, Homer ties up Bart and suspends him from the ceiling with a sign that reads "tasty boy" to lure the intruder out.
* CelebrityParadox: ''Futurama'' had previously established ''The Simpsons'' as being a TV show in their universe, and ''The Simpsons'' had suggested ''Futurama'' is the same for them. This is entirely ignored in this episode.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Bender displays his weapons to kill Homer, Homer is worried about the boxing glove.
* ContinuityNod:
** Bender wears the Pin Pals shirt from ''Team Homer''.
** While Homer is showing Fry, Leela and Bender around, they pass by Pannuci's Pizza where Seymour is still waiting for Fry, complete with a short tune that reprises "I Will Wait For You".
** Lisa is seen playing the holophonor from ''Parasites Lost'' and ''The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings'', although hers is naturally shaped like a saxophone instead of a clarinet.
** The rabbits are corralled into Madison Cube Garden, site of several events in the Futurama universe.
** Bender shuts himself down for 1,000 years in order to get back to his time, a tactic that is seen in episodes such as "Roswell That Ends Well" and is ultimately reckoned with in ''[[Recap/FuturamaM1BendersBigScore Bender's Big Score]]''.
** The Bart mutants use Bart's old catchphrases, get strangled by Homer (along with a repeated, bored version of his old "Why you little..!" catchphrase), and are first herded towards Madison Cube Garden by being told someone is laying a finger on their Butterfinger candy bars.
* CouchGag: The opening caption says "A show out of episodes teams up with [[SelfDeprecation a show out of ideas]].
* CrapsackWorld: The future world of Futurama has outlawed motherly love and turned Epcot Centre and Universal Studios into concentration camps.
* {{Crossover}}: With ''Futurama''. Also in the regular couch gag, the family sit on the couch and it transforms into Hedonismbot.
* DemotedToExtra: Of the ''Futurama'' cast, only Bender and Farnsworth actually contribute to the plot. Fry and Leela mostly just hang in the background and act as comic relief, while Hermes, Amy and Zoidberg only get a MandatoryLine each and don't even travel to Springfield.
* EatenAlive: Linda van Schoonhoven, the female Futurama Newscaster, gets eaten by one of the Bart monsters moments before it mutates into its gremlin-like form.
* EskimosArentReal: To prove that he's the real Bart instead of a mutated bunny, Homer demands him to tell his birthday. Unfortunately, Homer doesn't believe that February has a twenty-third day.
* HaveYouTriedRebooting: How Prof. Frink restores Bender's memory.
* HurlItIntoTheSun: The mutant creatures are herded into Madison Cube Garden, which is then hurled into space. It ends up on Omicron Persei 8.
* HypocriticalHumor:
** Bender deems it unforgivable when the creatures steal office stuff but then it turns out he did it himself.
** Farnsworth describes TimeTravel as "ludicrous", which is silly since [[Recap/FuturamaS3E19RoswellThatEndsWell he himself]] [[Recap/FuturamaS6E7TheLatePhillipJFry time travelled before]].
* IgnoreTheDisability: When Leela and Marge meet. Both of them botch it immediately afterwards.
-->'''Marge:''' (thinking) Don't mention her eye. Don't mention her eye.\
'''Leela:''' (thinking) Don't mention her hair. Don't mention her hair.\
'''Marge:''' I (eye)... am so pleased to meet you!\
'''Leela:''' Nice to be ''hair''!
* InstantExpert: Lisa instantly masters the holophonor, which is stated to be ''extremely'' difficult to play, the first time she tries it.
* KillAllHumans: Bender mutters this in his sleep, and Homer seems to agree, as he also mutters "Start with Flanders".
* KillerRabbit: The creatures mutated from Bart's sandwich and Milhouse's rabbit's foot first appear as [[HairRaisingHare vicious rabbits]]. They eventually mutate into green Bart-like demons.
* MandatoryLine: Lampshaded.
--> '''Zoidberg:''' Hello, robit! Looks like everyone gets a turn to say something. This concludes my turn.
* {{Mooning}}: One of the Bart creatures peels back the skin on its bottom to expose a pair of buttocks as a taunt.
* MyCountryTisOfTheeThatISting: Bart asks if Lisa remembers the time the country was good at something and he says ''he'' doesn't.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: When Bart sneezes into a sandwich at school, Marge feels it at home.
* MythologyGag: Lisa tricks all the mutant Barts into corralling themselves in Madison Cube Garden by telling them it's full of Butterfinger candy bars that [[BerserkButton people are laying fingers on]].
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Bender now has cool new EyeBeams.
* OnlySixFaces: Lisa and Bart discuss how Homer and Bender have similar designs, and [[SelfDeprecation mocking some unseen entity for being uncreative]].
* PortalToThePast: How Fry, Leela, and Farnsworth show up in Springfield.
* SelfDeprecation: The episode is very aware it's a crossover and does make fun of itself for it.
** The opening subtitle reads "A show out of ideas teams up with a show out of episodes."
** Bart and Lisa note that Bender looks pretty similar to Homer--Bart claims that it's as if someone took a drawing of Homer, slimmed it down, erased his hair and added an antenna. They conclude that [[Creator/MattGroening whoever would do that]] [[BitingTheHandHumor would be a very lazy and unimaginative artist]].
** One of the Bart monsters can be seen spraying graffiti that reads "Crossovers [[ComicStrip/LifeInHell are hell]]".
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: Bender's initial goal.
* SharedUniverse: Apparently, despite the fact that ''Futurama'' established it's a separate series from ''The Simpsons'' and vice versa. Not only that, but [[{{FridgeLogic}} multiple episodes of Futurama reference The Simpsons as a TV series while the vice versa is not true]]. There have been a few references to Futurama in Simpsons but mostly as cameos.
* ShoutOut:
** Bender's arrival to the past and his mission references ''Film/TheTerminator''.
** Binky and Bongo from ''ComicStrip/LifeInHell'' appear among the mutated rabbits.
* SkewedPriorities: When Bender aims his weapons at Homer, he seems most concerned with the ExtendoBoxingGlove.
** In the basement, Homer only attacks Bender when he starts drinking his beer. "Stay away from my loved ones!"
* TheSlowPath: Since Bender is the time portal, he can't return to the future like the rest of the Planet Express Crew. Instead he shuts himself down for 1,000 years to which Homer puts him into the basement until that time. Bender, unlike people such as the Simpsons, doesn't have to worry about stuff like aging and death since he's a robot and, therefore, is basically immortal.
* TheStinger:
** Kang and Kodos arrive on Omicron Persei 8 for dinner with Lrrr and Ndnd, whose planet is a mess from the Bart creatures crashing there, and become visibly uncomfortable when they begin arguing over it.
** Another interludes the credits by showing Springfield landmarks and people [[MergedReality blended into]] New New York as Homer sings improvised lyrics to the Futurama theme song.
* ThinksOfSomethingSmartSaysSomethingStupid: Marge is introduced to Leela:
-->'''Marge (thinking)''': Oh, don't mention her eye. Don't mention her eye.\
'''Leela (thinking)''': Don't mention her hair. Don't mention her hair.\
'''Marge''': I (Eye)... am so pleased to meet you.\
'''Leela''': Nice to be hair.
* TimeMachine: When Lisa asks if Professor Farnsworth used a time machine to go back in time, he dismisses the notion of a time machine as ludicrous and explains that he turned Bender into a time portal. However, when Professor Frink asks how Bender got back in time, Professor Farnsworth tells her that Bender used a time machine.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight:
** Most of the Springfieldians aren't particularly bothered by Bender, a fully-sentient, futuristic robot, walking around Springfield. Even the ever-skeptical, rational Lisa doesn't believe he's actually from the future because how advanced his AI is, implying technology in Springfield has advanced to the point where the futuristic Bender doesn't stick out. (This kind of makes sense when you take the episode "Them, Robot" into account--although the mechanical workers Burns hired for his plant weren't quite up to ''Futurama'''s RidiculouslyHumanRobot standards in the personality department, the fact remains that Bender isn't even Homer's first RobotBuddy.)
** None of the Planet Express Crew find it weird that the Simpsons are yellow.
* YouAlreadyChangedThePast: When the PortalToThePast malfunctions and brings everyone except Maggie and Bender to New New York in the future, Bender takes Maggie to the horse races, since he knows the outcome of every one in this time. For one race, he bets on a horse named "Bender's Bounty", even though it died during the race. It turns out Bender killed Bender's Bounty in frustration because the horse was losing the race.
