Star brings the Diaz family over to Mewni as a last minute anniversary present. However, while there Star and Marco have to protect them from some of the more dangerous creatures in the forest, and avoid being spotted by Star's dad King Butterfly.

After defeating a hydra, they run into King Butterfly, who reveals that just like Star, he finds palace life boring and occasionally sneaks away from his wife to have adventures and fight monsters. He agrees to look the other way and not tell Queen Butterfly that Star disobeyed them by breaking her exile.

!!Tropes:

* BlahBlahBlah: Star gets really bored with her dad's conversation about his throne posture lecture and starts hearing his words as this.
* BlatantLies: Star does ''not'' have inter-dimensional scissors! They are normal Earth scissors! Her parents don't look too convinced.
* BrainBleach: Marco, after seeing his dad naked.
* ChekhovsGun:
** The items in Marco's fanny pack later prove useful in dealing with the monsters they encounter in the Forest of Certain Death.
** When Star's dad is about to bust her for sneaking back onto Mewni, she asks him why he's not at his "throne posture" lecture that he talked about earlier.
* CoatFullOfContraband: Mr. and Mrs. Diaz encounter a shady-looking guy in a long-coat selling clocks and other merchandise.
* CommonalityConnection: Star and her dad bond over their love for hunting monsters.
* ConvectionSchmonvection: Marco's blanket is apparently fire- and heat-proof, as it protects both him and Star from the hydra's fire breath.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: Marco keeps telling Star that the fanny packs can be from both of them. He keeps saying it as they go to Mewni.
* TheDarknessGazesBack: There are ominous pairs of red eyes in every dark corner of the Forest of Certain Death.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Star taking Marco's parents on a trip to Mewni, after receiving a lecture from her parents to stay on Earth and not travel anywhere. Keeping the Diazes from her home palace is not enough to ensure discretion, since her dad is apparently out in the same area.
* DisneyDeath: Marco's parents seem to suffer this when Marco thinks a monster ate them, and he can't find them in the hydra's stomach.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The merchant with the CoatFullOfContraband is shown from behind when he first opens his coat--for a moment, it looks very much like he's flashing them. For bonus points, Mr. and Mrs. Diaz immediately start snapping pictures.
* DontGoInTheWoods: The Forest of Certain Death.
* TheDungAges: Apparently the peasants in Mewni live like this.
* FailedASpotCheck: Star's parents somehow don't see the portal that Star accidentally conjures up while she tries to pass off the Dimensional Scissors as normal scissors.
* FanDisservice: Marco's parents get naked to soak in a hot tub. Marco suffers BrainBleach as a result.
* TheFool: Marco's parents don't notice the dangers Marco and Star protect them from.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: When Marco finds his parent's stuff, it includes his dad's ''neatly-removed'' shirt.
* HawaiianShirtedTourist: Mr. and Mrs. Diaz wear Hawaiian shirts for their trip to Mewni.
* IDontLikeTheSoundOfThatPlace: The Forest of Certain Death.
* ImpossiblyCompactFolding: Marco manages to pull out and unfold a whole blanket from a tiny belt pouch.
* InTheBlood: Monster hunting runs in the Butterfly family. Star and her dad bond over it after he chews her out for breaking the rules.
* KnottyTentacles: Star and Marco defeat the hydra with quick maneuvers to tie its necks up into a knot.
* MixAndMatchCritters: The pig-goats kept by the peasants of Mewni.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Mr. Diaz is more or less unconcerned with whoever sees him in just his fanny pack.
* NatureTinkling: Marco mentions to have done this while in the Forest of Certain Death.
* NotThisOneThatOne: Shortly after their arrival on Mewni, Mrs Diaz asks Star if it's where she grew up. Star tells her that she grew up in a castle. She points upwards, and the Diaz family gasp with awe at a fancy castle. Star tells them to look higher, and the camera pulls back to show an even bigger, fancier castle behind that one. Star tells them to look even higher, and her actual castle is shown, towering over the second one.
* ParentalSexualitySquick: When Marco goes to give his gift to his parents, Mrs. Diaz is pawing at her husband's chest hair, and the two are humming and giggling to each other. Marco's visibly not happy to see this.
* ProperlyParanoid: Marco in the Forest of Certain Death. He evades all the traps with ease thanks to his caution, while trying to catch up to his parents.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Subverted. Although King Butterfly and Star bond, the real reason he's not going to bust her is because she can bust him in turn to the queen.
* SickeningSweethearts: Marco's parents. Marco reacts just as well as a normal kid would to seeing such public affection.
* SwallowedWhole: The hydra apparently doesn't digest its food well or chew, as it has a number of unharmed peasants in its stomach.
* YouDidntSeeThat: King Butterfly tells Star that she didn't see him out hunting when he claimed he was giving a throne-posture lecture, and in return he didn't see her on Mewni when she was supposed to stay on Earth.
