Now that the gang all know about Chandler and Monica's relationship, Chandler becomes uncomfortable with their various teasing observations about the relationship's future. Ross's attempt to bond with the residents of his new building go wrong when he refuses to chip in to pay for a present after the retirement of the building's handyman.
----
!!Tropes:
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: After Chandler's panicking leads to a fight, Monica says she's sick of being the relationship coach and tells him to figure out how to fix this mess himself. The big gesture that Chandler comes up with prompts her to acknowledge that was a bad idea.
* TheBlindLeadingTheBlind: As Monica points out to Chandler, [[SerialSpouse Ross]] and [[LoveableSexManiac Joey]] are in no position to give anyone advice on relationships.
* CallBack: When talking to Chandler about Monica's priorities, Rachel cites [[Recap/FriendsS2E24TheOneWithBarryAndMindysWedding her breaking up Richard]] over his refusal to have children.
* CommitmentIssues: Or rather Chandlers "stupid commitment-thing", as Monica words it. The gang's jokes about him and Monica getting married cause him to panic thanks to his history of these issues.
* CowardlyLion: Chandler does something that scares the heck out of him. He decides to overcome his infamous CommitmentIssues and proposes to Monica to show her how much he is in love with her and that he would do anything to make their relationship work.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Ross' new neighbors in his apartment building believe in this trope way too much. Upon moving in, he's greeted by a fellow neighbor who welcomes him and then immediately requests that he contribute $100 for the retirement of their handyman. He refuses on the grounds that he just moved into the building (putting the bulk of his money into that alone), is still settling in and doesn't see the point in offering a rather large amount of money for a complete stranger. The neighbors exile him from the community and deem him a horrible man. When Phoebe tries to smooth things over by pointing out ''their'' small flaws, she gets exiled too.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Zig-zagged. This episode initially plays it as a joke that Joey's new girlfriend Katie keeps hurting him by hitting him playfully but painfully. The friends even make fun of Joey for making a big deal out of a seemingly small thing. However, Joey is not okay with it and tries honestly telling her that what she does hurts him; she responds by blowing him off and still doing it. Due to this, Joey ends up breaking up with her. Rachel gets a taste of it when the girl hits her as well and she realizes how wrong they were to mock Joey as the girl genuinely does hit very hard. She tries to give Katie a taste of her own medicine before throwing off all pretenses and giving her a good kick. At this, the girl is ironically shocked at the minor assault. Still, it's hard to imagine this episode as "The One with The Boy Who Hits Monica", so the DoubleStandard is clearly in effect.
* DudeNotFunny: After Chandler attempts to apologize to Monica by proposing to her the end credits scene shows the gang making fun of him by solving minor arguments by proposing. Ross gets carried away and jokingly proposes to Rachel to apologize for "[[Recap/FriendsS3E16TheOneWithTheMorningAfter that whole 'we were on a break' thing]]". The rest of the gang immediately tells him that isn't funny and walk away.
* HonorBeforeReason: Ross refuses to contribute the $100 and says he will instead throw a party, where he will explain to his neighbors that he's not a bad guy. Rachel points out it'd be cheaper to give them the $100 than it would to throw a party, but Ross insists this is about his principles.
* IWarnedYou: When Rachel learns firsthand that Katie's "playful" punches really do hurt, Joey gives her a knowing glance and gestures this way.
* ImpactSilhouette:
-->'''Monica:''' What would you have done if I had said yes?\
'''Chandler:''' Well, I would've been happy, because I would've been able to spend the rest of my life with the woman that I love... or you would've seen a Chandler-shaped hole in that door.
* {{Jerkass}}: As stated above, Ross's new neighbours are nothing but self-righteous jerks.
* LampshadeHanging: Monica questions Chandler taking relationship advice from "two divorces and Joey."
-->'''Ross:''' Hey!\
'''Joey:''' She's right, you know.\
'''Ross:''' Yeah, but still, cheap shot.
* MoodWhiplash: Ross initially confronts Chandler with the angry yell of "My best friend and my ''sister''? I cannot believe this!", but once Chandler and Monica affirm that they love each other, he joyfully proclaims "My best friend and my sister! I cannot ''believe'' this!" and hugs them both.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: Subverted. It looks like Ross may have a problem with Chandler and Monica being together after he found out about it in the [[Recap/FriendsS5E14TheOneWhereEverybodyFindsOut previous episode]], but once they assure him they're genuinely in love and not just fooling around he's actually [[ShipperOnDeck supportive of them as a couple]].
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: With their SecretRelationship finally known to the entire group after all this time, Monica reflects on how she and Chandler no longer have to worry about being found out.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: The reason why Joey's pain is not taken seriously (at first) is because Katie is so tiny and no one believes that she was strong enough to hurt a buff man like Joey. Rachel gets a fair share of "playful" punches later and can confirm that Joey was not exaggerating.
* PretentiousPronunciation: Ross wants to throw a "part-ay".
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: With an angry Ross banging on the door, Chandler's plan is to make a run for it.
