'''''Coral Palms, Part 1''''' is the premiere episode of ''Series/BrooklynNineNine'''s fourth season.

It's been six months since Jake and Holt had to go into WitnessProtection after crime boss Jimmy Figgis put out a hit on their lives. Now, under the pseudonyms "Greg" (Holt) and "Larry" (Jake), the two try and make themselves at home in the town of Coral Palms, UsefulNotes/{{Florida}}.

Holt finds adjusting to his new life to be fairly easy, cheerfully power walking with the neighborhood women while working at a kids' amusement arcade, bringing his typical drive to what should otherwise be a dead-end job. Jake, on the other hand, is miserable, having spent the past six months doing little more than crying in a hot tub while drinking beer and eating burritos. Things seem to be looking up for Jake, though, as he finds a job as an ATV salesman and starts cheering up.

As it turns out, though, Jake has begun his own investigation into the Figgis case while trying to keep it a secret from Holt and the US Marshal overseeing their case (guest star Creator/MayaRudolph).

Also, Jake and Holt have to deal with a local hick who's captured compromising video of the two of them and try and stop her before she uploads it onto the internet and potentially blowing their covers.

!!This episode provides examples of:

* BadBoss: Invoked and played with; Jake deliberately gets a job as assistant manager at the amusement arcade where Holt works so that he can force Holt to do all the demeaning jobs, thus attempting to extort him for the return of the files on Figgis. Of course, since the amusement arcade isn't exactly the height of professionalism, to everyone else he seems pretty cool.
* BriefcaseFullOfMoney: Jake prepares one for Jordan to buy her phone, filling it with used corn dog coupons covered with single twenty dollar bills to try and hide the fact that he doesn't have the amount she asked for.
* BlatantLies:
** Among other lies on his resume, Jake claims to have been the pilot who landed [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Airways_Flight_1549 Flight 1549]] on the Hudson.
** Jake's attempt to pretend he'd gotten a job at the ATV store would also have been a lot more successful had he demonstrated even basic knowledge about [=ATV=]s.
* DirtyOldWoman: Implied with Holt's power walking friends; they give an appreciative once-over to "Larry", "Greg's" young, [[DelinquentHair casually]] [[SleevesAreForWimps dressed]], [[CoolBike [=ATV=]]]-driving neighbor.
* GoofySuit: Jake makes Holt stand by the go-kart track in a corn dog costume, instructing him to shout "Me so corny!" whenever someone passes by.
* GossipyHens: The ladies from Holt's power walking group enjoy talking about their acquaintances' love lives and playing matchmaker.
* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: Captain Holt's cover is that he is a widower whose wife recently passed away. He doesn't do a very good job pretending that he's heterosexual.
-->'''Holt''': You know I'm still getting over the tragic loss of my wife. She was such a strong, ''female'', woman. With nice heavy breasts.
* HesBack: Holt spends most of the episode insisting he and Peralta should make the best of their situation, stick to their cover identities and let the feds handle Figgis. After a day of actual detective work, he decides that "making the best of it ''sucks''" and hatches a plan to lure Figgis to them.
-->'''Jake:''' I like the way you're thinking, Greg.\
'''Holt:''' It's Holt. Captain ''Raymond'' Holt. Now come and get us, Figgis.
* InstantHumiliationJustAddYouTube: Holt and Jake try to stop Jordan from posting the video of them being hit by go-karts, not so much for the humiliation but to avoid blowing their cover.
* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine: Taylor, Holt's boss at the amusement arcade, is played by Jorma Taccone, who is Andy Samberg's co-member in Music/TheLonelyIsland. Their two characters, while not exactly old friends, clearly hit it off in the episode.
* JerkassHasAPoint: When Holt accuses Jake of lying on his resume to get the assistant manager job, Jake does not deny it and reminds him ''their entire personas are already lies''.
* MoneyDearBoy: InUniverse. Jordan Crafton, the local woman who took the video of Jake and Holt being hit by go-karts wants to upload it onto the internet because the ad revenue from a viral video will let her buy a tanning bed for her house.
-->'''Jordan''': I don't care about you! A good viral video like that can fetch me ten ''grand''! And do you know what type of tanning bed I could get for that kind of money? A mid-range one!
* OverlyLongGag: the name of the ATV Holt/Greg wants to take for a test drive.
-->'''Holt''': Hi, I hear you're the man to talk to about the XTR-XP 49789WJ8-09 Xtreme four-wheel drive Z-Cat.\
'''Jake''': Sir, I'm gonna stop you right there.
* RoomFullOfCrazy: Jake starts to create one in a storage unit. Holt initially disapproves but eventually joins Jake upon realizing that they're the only ones who'll put in the effort to actually close the case.
* SatchelSwitcheroo: The deal for Jordan's phone goes south and she takes it back... except that Jake had switched the phones by then.
* SeriousBusiness: Don't mess with "Greg's" power-walking group.
* TakeThat:
** The episode does not exactly portray [[OnlyInFlorida Florida]] in a flattering light, being a culturally dead wasteland filled with moronic, drunken hicks which is, in Jake's (quoted) words, "America's stinky butt".
** Among the many indignities that Jake's time undercover has inflicted on him, as part of his character he is forced to pretend that the Creator/MatthewMcConaughey[=/=]Creator/SarahJessicaParker movie ''Film/FailureToLaunch'' is his favourite movie.
** Jake says that [=ATV=]s are super fun and much safer than people think... if you're ''standing next to one''.
--->'''Jake:''' If you're driving it, it's actually much more dangerous than you can possibly imagine.
* TookAShortCut: Holt, on foot, somehow manages to beat the ATV-riding Jake to his hideout.
-->'''Jake:''' How did you get here so fast?! You were walking!\
'''Holt:''' I was ''power''-walking.
* {{Troll}}: Holt casually reveals that he has a tattoo - then immediately declares he will never mention it again. You can see Jake's agony.
