Context Recap / ArrowS7E2LongbowHunters

Go To

Done with hiding, Felicity decides to find Diaz himself, but is disappointed when John won't let her tagalong with ARGUS when Diaz's fabled associates the Longbow Hunters make themselves known in Star City. Oliver tries to work out how Diaz got his people inside the prison.
----
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Brick is genuinely impressed with Oliver's method for getting rid of Yorke.
* AmbiguousSituation: It's not explicit but it's implied that Thea might have died during the hunt for the three Lazarus Pits. Whatever her fate, it's clearly a sensitive topic for Roy.
* TheAtoner: Black Siren may not be actively seeking redemption, but she at least gives Dinah a heartfelt apology for killing Vincent, determined to prove that she's not the killer she once was.
* BlatantLies: After ditching and injuring several police men assigned to guard her, Laurel tells Dinah that they had food poisoning.
* CombinationAttack: After Silencer's shield proves too much for either Dinah's or Laurel's canary cry to handle, the two combine their efforts. The resulting cry is powerful enough to finally breach the shield.
* CrazyPrepared: The Longbow Hunters are more than prepared to deal with a sonic meta cry.
* DealWithTheDevil: Oliver makes one with Brick. Get the guard, Yorke, removed from duty and he'll get intel about Diaz.
* DonutMessWithACop: When Laurel sees Dinah eating, she jokingly asks why she isn't eating a donut.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: Red Dart, one of the Longbow Hunters. She goes into a building under the pretense of having a job interview. And after she leaves it, having murdered a few guards with her darts, she is asked how it went. Her response? ''I think I nailed it.''
* FriendshipMoment:
** New and Old Team Arrow (minus Oliver) reaffirm themselves as friends dedicated to tracking down Diaz.
** Also, Laurel finally directly apologizes to Dinah for killing Vince and thanks her for her help.
* GodzillaThreshold: How desperate is Felicity to put Diaz behind bars? Cut a deal with the woman who put her husband up the river, Agent Watson.
* GoodIsNotNice: Yorke might be a dick, but after a research Oliver concludes that he is a law abiding dick.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Dinah and Laurel understandably still have major trouble working together. At the end of the episode however, it seems to be on the way of improvement.
* HeelFaceTurn: Black Siren probably won't be palling around with the heroes any time soon, but she makes it clear that she's not the person she used to be, going so far as to apologize to Dinah for Vincent's death.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: After being attacked by Diaz, Felicity (and the others) indulge themselves with very generous amounts of wine.
* ItsPersonal: Black Siren makes it clear she wants to kill Diaz for killing Quentin, and Felicity nearly sabotages A.R.G.U.S.' mission rather than risk Diaz escaping.
* {{Jerkass}}: The guard, Yorke. He has a special dislike of Oliver because he reminds him of the spoiled, entitled rich kids he grew up with. It ends up coming back to bite him; Yorke's generally unpleasant personality makes it easy for the other guards to believe that he stabbed Oliver at the end of episode.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Downplayed; Yorke's comment about the SuperheroParadox isn't totally accurate, but he's not completely ''wrong'', either. Deathstroke, Prometheus, and Cayden James all enacted destructive campaigns against Star City for the express purpose of taking revenge on Oliver, and while Ra's al Ghul was already active, his main interest in Star City was born from a desire to have Oliver become his successor. He's also right about Oliver being a rich, entitled man who decided the law didn't apply to him.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Diggle won't tell his teammates about what A.R.G.U.S. is doing, per internal regulations, so they unintentionally screw up an A.R.G.U.S. mission when they decided to strike out on their own.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Felicity is not very helpful this episode due to her relentless crusade against Diaz.
* NonActionGuy: William tells Roy that he never learned how to shoot a bow. His comment about spending nearly a billion dollars on tech development implies that he took more after his stepmother than his father.
* NotHelpingYourCase: When Curtis catches Felicity hacking right in the A.R.G.U.S. headquarters, he thinks that she is hacking A.R.G.U.S. itself. She denies - she is just hacking ''Interpol''.
* OhCrap:
** Black Siren get scared, ''very'' fast when Dinah tells her the Longbow Hunters are in town.
** And then she turns it around, with Silencer, one of the Hunters, quickly looking quite scared when a combined Canary Cry from Black Siren and Dinah is able to break through her sound-dampening shield.
* ParentalAbandonment: William's bitter comments imply that after Felicity sent him to boarding school, neither she nor Oliver kept in touch with him.
* RefugeInAudacity:
** Felicity hacking into A.R.G.U.S., while INSIDE A.R.G.U.S. Curtis quickly calls her out on this.
** Oliver removes Yorke without killing him by stabbing ''himself'' and shouting that Yorke did it. It works. Even Brick is impressed.
* TheReveal: Why is William on Lian Yu? The hozen Felicity gave him contained GPS coordinates to the island. Turns out she wanted him to find Oliver's old bow that he buried there. There's ''something'' in a secret compartment. Whatever it contained, Roy decides that he and William need to get back to Star City.
* ShieldBash: One of the Longbow Hunters, Kodiak, uses a shield both for protection and as a blunt object. It even has razors on the sides.
* ShoutOut: At one point in the episode, Felicity uses the expletive ''Frak'', from ''Series/BattlestarGalactica1978''.
* StraightGay: Turns out that William has had a boyfriend in the future.
* SuddenlyAlwaysKnewThat: Felicity demands to be let in on the ARGUS operation despite being a civilian, claiming that no one knows more about the Longbow Hunters than she does. This is in spite of the fact [[InformedAttribute no one on the show, included Felicity, has mentioned the Longbow Hunters before]] and as of yet she's not been shown to have any hidden history with them the way Oliver often has a hidden history with the villains.
* SuperheroParadox: One of the reasons Yorke hates Oliver is because he thinks that his presence as the Green Arrow brought that many criminals into Star City to begin with. His logic is somewhat shaky; the city was a WretchedHive long before Oliver began his war on crime (in fact, Merlyn's plan to level the Glades was a result of the city's criminal element), and a lot of the positive change over the years was a result of Oliver removing corrupt officials and criminals from the city one way or another.
* TakeAThirdOption: When blackmailing Yorke fails, rather than kill him as Brick urges, Oliver decides to stab himself and frame Yorke for it to get him fired, getting rid of him as Brick wants without having to take a life.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Dinah and Laurel spend half the episode snarking at each other while trying to ensure the latter's safety. They're slightly more amiable after taking on Silencer.
* TookALevelInKindness: Black Siren, in a previously unseen show of respect and decency, actually thanks Dinah for helping her fight Silencer and apologizes for having killed Vincent.
* TrainEscape: Type 3; to keep Diaz and the Longbow Hunters from getting the weapon, Diggle orders Felicity to remotely unhook the wagons they are in. When she can't bring herself to do it since that would mean Diaz escapes again, Curtis does it for her.
* TheUnreveal: Roy burns the small piece of paper hidden in Oliver's bow for William, not telling him what it says.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Oliver stabs himself and makes it look like as if Yorke did it in order to get him removed by the other guards.
