Ever since Jake found out Huntsgirl is none other than Rose, he has troubling thoughts about her. Before he knows it, he gets captured by the Huntsclan alongside some inept magical creatures. This includes an unlucky leprechaun, a mermaid who is afraid of the water, a dumb giant, and a brownie who easily gets angered. In order to escape, he must form a team with them.

Eventually, Rose finds out Jake is the American Dragon. Instead of killing him as her purpose in life, she just lets him go and runs off. Much to his dismay, Jake found out she has transferred to another school.

!!This episode provides examples of:
* BittersweetEnding: Very, very heavy on the bitter, to the point where many could see it as a down-right DownerEnding. Jake rises up as a leader and successfully helps the other magical creatures captured in freeing themselves from the Huntsclan. And when he reveals his human identity to Huntsgirl, Rose chooses to free him rather than slay him. Both of which are sweet...but Rose all but disappears, dashing Jake's hopes of rekindling their relationship in spite of their differences.
* CallBack:
** At the very beginning of the episode, Rose approaching Jake makes him have a flashback to the climax of "Ski Trip", when he's just learned that Rose is Huntsgirl and she's showing off her birthmark, declaring that it destines her to slay dragons.
** Shortly thereafter, there's another one to "Dragon Breath", when Rose looks at a picture of her and Jake at that school dance, showing just how much she values that memory and how much she's come to care for Jake.
* {{Cliffhanger}}: Rose transfers out of Millard Fillmore, essentially disappearing and leaving her whereabouts unknown.
* ChainedHeat: Jake, Silver, Reggie, Bertha, and Clooney end up like this for half the episode until Jake manages to trick the Huntsclan into using their spear blasts to free them.
* CuttingTheKnot: When two tribes of sprites are feuding over which tribe an enchanted apple belongs to (the tribe on whose land the tree was planted or the tribe over whose land the apple grew), Lao Shi settles the dispute by simply eating the apple.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: By the end of the episode.
* DramaticUnmask: Jake does a variation of this by changing from dragon to human in order to reveal to Rose that the American Dragon who happens to know her name and the boy she has a mutual crush on ''are one and the same''.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: When Huntsgirl had to capture Jake alive for the Equinox Hunt, she fired a beam from her Huntstaff. After Jake mocked her for 'missing' him, she pointed out she wasn't trying to hit him. Jake was then hit by falling debris.
* FaceRealization: After spending the entire season (and presumably most of her life) convinced that she was born to be a cold-hearted dragon-slayer, upon learning that the American Dragon is the boy she has a crush on, Rose finds that she just doesn't have it in her to betray him.
* HopeSpot: Rose sparing Jake's life at the end of the episode makes Jake think it's all going to be smooth sailing between him and Rose going forward. He's wrong. ''Very'' wrong. (See BittersweetEnding above)
* HuntingTheMostDangerousGame: The Grand Equinox Hunt, which is what Jake and the other magical creatures have been captured for.
* INeverToldYouMyName: While a dragon, Jake calls the Huntsgirl "Rose" when she's about to slay him. What stops the Huntsgirl in her tracks is that she ''never, ever'' gave her real name to the American Dragon.
* InternalReveal: Rose finds out Jake is the American Dragon.
* IronicFear: Silver, who is a mermaid, is hydrophobic. She [[FaceYourFears overcomes this fear to save Jake during the climax]].
* LimitedWardrobe: Rose has a closet with Huntsgirl clothes on the day she's going to wear it.
* PutOnABus: By the end of the episode, Rose has transferred.
* SadisticChoice: In a sense, learning the American Dragon's true identity must've put Rose between a rock and a hard place. If she slew him, she would fulfill her rite of passage as a huntsgirl, but she would ultimately be killing the boy she loves. If she spared him, Jake would live another day, but as exemplified by the end of the episode, [[YouHaveFailedMe there would be consequences]].
* SequelEpisode: To "The Ski Trip"; this episode deals with Jake's conflicted feelings towards Rose, whom he found out in the previous episode was Huntsgirl.
* ShipperOnDeck: Even after the events of "The Ski Trip", Spud ships Jake and Rose, even going as far as to call it TrueLove.
* TrainingMontage: Jake spends a montage training the other magical creatures in the group on how to fight against the Huntsclan in order to escape. Subverted in that none of them really grow stronger physically, but they do learn to use their own weaknesses to their advantage against their enemies.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Once she alone learns they are one and the same, Rose finds herself at a crossroad between slaying Jake and sparing the American Dragon. She chooses the latter and runs off.
* YouHaveFailedMe: The Huntsman noticeably starts losing his patience with Rose in this episode. After they discover that their prey escaped their chains during the night, the Huntsman is furious with Rose. Later on, after Jake is recaptured, and Rose hesitates in killing him, the Huntsman once again is not happy. Sure enough, early on in season two, it's revealed that her disappearance at the end of this episode was the result of her being punished by the Huntsman.
