The writers state in the commentary that they picked Toby for the role precisely because people were used to him being funny.
2	* Creator/NathanFillion, known for playing roguish heroes, as the self-absorbed Captain Hammer in ''WebVideo/DoctorHorriblesSingAlongBlog''.
3	* Creator/FeliciaDay, known for playing nerdy, wholesome, awkward girls, plays the rogue elf assassin Tallis in ''WebVideo/DragonAgeRedemption''. She wrote the part for herself.
4	* Creator/KyleHebert is a voice actor who usually plays badass heroic roles, such as [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIV Ryu]], [[Anime/DragonBallZ Gohan]], [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Kiba Inuzuka]] and [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]], or badass villainous roles like [[Anime/TekkenBloodVengeance Kazuya Mishima]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Sosuke Aizen]]. In the live-action web-series ''WebVideo/ThereWillBeBrawl'', though, he plays the [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder backstabbing]], [[DirtyCoward cowardly]] {{Jerkass}} Wario.

In ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee'', however, he plays a stereotypically nerdy IT guy.
6	* Creator/ElijahWood's role in ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'' as Sigma, an incredibly creepy AI who's single-handedly responsible for corrupting Agent Maine and turning him into the psychopathic Meta.
7	* Samantha Ireland, who played the bitter and depressed Agent Connecticut in ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'', plays MotorMouth FunPersonified Nora Valkyrie in ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}''.
8	** Also Jen Brown, known for playing as the competitive and [[TragicHero tragic]] AntiHero Agent Carolina, voices the relaxed and friendly HumbleHero Pyrrha Nikos.
9	* ''WebAnimation/TheBackwaterGospel'': Creator/LucienDodge's roles are more often than not youthful do-gooders. Here, he plays the Minister, an antagonistic old man.

11	** A weird example: Christian Potenza's character Ryan is just as ditzy as you'd expect. The surprise is him playing a non animated character for once
12	* Michael Swaim of Website/{{Cracked}} is a sociopath in ''WebVideo/AgentsOfCracked'' and a sociopath in ''WebVideo/AfterHours''. Then comes ''Rom.com'', where he's the ''[[OnlySaneMan voice of reason]]''.
13	* In ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'', Miles Luna plays well-meaning and heroic ButtMonkey Jaune Arc. In ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'', he plays TheAce Felix who's OnlyInItForTheMoney, [[spoiler:and EvilAllAlong. In a chilling scene, Felix reveals he was never the heroes' friend and can't wait to terminate them, and has no problem with dropping a nuke on innocent civilians.]]
14	** And continuing onward, Lindsay Jones plays the childish and loveable LittleRedFightingHood Ruby Rose. Red Vs Blue, she plays the serious rebel leader and ReasonableAuthorityFigure Vanessa Kimball. In ''WebAnimation/XRayAndVav'', she plays isolated JerkWithAHeartOfGold MadScientist Hilda.
15	** Adding to that, Creator/JoshGrelle, who regularly plays NiceGuy [[HaremGenre harem protagonists]], is completely unrecognizable as the AxeCrazy GigglingVillain Tyrian. Josh even went on record saying that he enjoyed the role.
16	** And Creator/ChristopherSabat, who normally voices ultra loud, ultra manly characters played Dr. Watts, who is elegant and composed.
17	* Creator/BradJones tends to play outright psychos at worst and jerkasses at best. However one of his earlier films, a romantic comedy called ''Game Boys'', he's actually an honest to God romantic lead who's most negative quality is his immaturity.
18	** Speaking of Jones, the pilot to ''Lloyd'' features Creator/AllisonPregler (who is mostly known for her wacky and occasionally childish persona) as Lloyd's annoyed and not at all wacky date.
19	* Mike Ginn's most well known role is playing Gem, a hyperactive HeroicComedicSociopath who's also the Gold Ranger in ''Series/{{PowerRangersRPM}}''. In Series/TenCandles, Mike has gone to show different shades of his whole acting repertoire, from tough guys to meek men.
20	* As mentioned on the Western Animation page for this trope, Creator/RichardStevenHorvitz is usually known for playing comedic LargeHam-type characters (i.e. WesternAnimation/InvaderZim). ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss'', however, sees him play the long-suffering, more subdued OnlySaneMan Moxxie. He also voices Moxxie's abusive father Crimson, a sinister and menacing crime boss played almost entirely seriously.
21	** Music/ParryGripp is primarily known for composing seriously catchy children's music and novelty songs. The songs he composed for the pilot, the "I.M.P. Jingle" and "Oh Millie" are, while [[LyricalDissonance just as cheerful and upbeat as his usual work in melody]], a commercial jingle for an assassin business and [[InLoveWithYourCarnage a love song about an assassin's killing skills]] respectively.
22	** Creator/EricaLindbeck, who is usually known for voicing [[GenkiGirl energetic]], [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]], and/or [[NiceGirl nice]] girls, voices the foul-mouthed and aloof Loona. Even more notable since Millie, who fits perfectly under her normal typecast, was re-casted with Vivian Nixon.
23	** Creator/CristinaValenzuela voices Verosika Mayday, who's a foul-mouthed succubus AlphaBitch, a far cry from the {{Nice Girl}}s or {{Broken Bird}}s she normally plays.
