* The original [[InvokedTrope invokes]] this (or attempts to) and builds its appeal around this. The ghosts of the later episodes are noticeably more menacing and scarier, to the point that some viewers are [[WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids surprised that it's made for children]]. The GagDub, of course, isn't as scary as the original, but the character designs and paranormal vagaries are still present to unnerve the viewer.
* Episode 4 Requiem of the Dead. Even the GagDub can't mitigate the creepiness of Für Elise playing on whatever is around you.
* In Episode 11, we have the EvilPhone sequence where Satsuki gets a call from a CreepyDoll. Once again, even the GagDub failed to make it less creepy (funnier yes, less creepy no). Special mention should also go to the scene in which Merry Mary is sitting on the roof of the school where the camera pans up to a close up of her staring directly into the camera and, by extension, directly [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou into the viewer's eyes.]] This also means that her eyes will be ''following you around the room.''
** Merry Mary later summons a ''whole army'' of evil dolls that surround Satsuki, planning to playfully torture her. Then there's the song they sing about it:
-->''Satsuki's a goner''
-->''This We Know''
-->''Merry Mary tells us so''
-->''[[AnArmAndALeg Rip off her arms and then her legs]]''
-->''[[EyeScream Pluck out her eyeballs]] and her brains''
** They then morph into a shifting mass of darkness that traps Satsuki like a fly in a web, and settle for ''pulling out the girl's eyes.''
** The fact that even in the GagDub, Satsuki can barely scrounge up any quips or snarky comments. The poor girl is legitimately ''terrified'' and [[TearsOfFear crying]] frequently, and who can blame her?
* While he is Laughably Evil, Da Vinci is a different breed of scary from the rest of the show’s ghosts. Aside from being so creepy and dangerous that even the other ghosts despise him, he is a much more plausible monster than the other ghosts. He’s a delusional middle school art teacher kidnapping and murdering young girls to fuel his obsession. While there is a supernatural bent to it, he is still an [[SadisticTeacher all-too-]][[SerialKiller real]] kind of evil.

* In the pilot episode "Cold In The Grave", a killer is greeted by the ghost haunting by attempting to grab him with a bloody frozen hand popping out through a refrigerator! Afterwards, he sees her every time someone opens a refrigerator door showing her corpse complete with a ScareChord.
* In the episode"Beat The Reaper", the antagonist Vinnie Falco gets led straight to Hell's doorstep when trying to escape prison.
** When "Zach" tricks Vinnie by leading him to Hell and revealing himself to being the Grim Reaper, he moves forward to claim Vinnie and ''he looks as if he is actually moving towards the audience'', upping the creep factor.
** When Vinnie's dead body is discovered by his lawyer, he has a glove stretched over his face, making it look as though he committed suicide via suffocation.
** The sounds of people's screaming from being tortured in Hell. As Vinnie finds out himself.
** When "Zach" and Vinnie get closer to freedom, a bright orange red light, the ominous flames glowing brighter and people's screaming in the distance gets louder. Revealing to actually be hell.
** Zach's payback to Vinnie is all the more terrifying complete with ScareChord a as he reveals his true form:
--> '''Vinnie:''' Wait...I get it now! This is payback, isn't it? There's no way out of here! The lights, sound effects, getting me lost! This is all a creepshow you cooked up to pay me back for what I did to you.
--> '''Zach:''' You're not lost, Vinnie, and I have no grudge with you. Believe me when I tell you that.
--> '''Vinnie:''' Okay, I admit it, I took off on you when we robbed that place. And I left you there when the cops showed up. But I was scared, Zach! I didn't mean for them to kill you, I swear! On my mother's eyes, I swear--!
--> '''Zach:''' You can tell Zach yourself. He's waiting for you just around that corner. ''(evil laughter)''
--> '''Vinnie:''' What are you talking about?
--> '''Zach:''' ''(bursting into evil laughter)''
--> '''Vinnie:''' Who are you?
--> '''Zach:''' Don't you know? ''(evil laughter)''
--> '''Vinnie:''' LIAR!!!
--> '''Zach:''' ''(bursts into flames; morphs into his true form as the Grim reaper)''.
--> '''Vinnie:''' No....
* In the episode "Blazes", a naive soon-to-be retired firefighter and arsonist is stalked by a homeless man who is actually LouisCypher hoping to make a deal with him. After the firefighter unwittingly makes a deal with the devil, he gets more than he bargained for as he ends up trapped in Hell, surrounded by endless wildfires and the sounds of peoples screams and moans of pain. The last sentences in the episode make it all the more terrifying:
-->'''Jake''': ''(In a firefighter suit, surrounded by endless flames, screaming)'' What's going on?! Whaaaat's haaappening?!
-->'''The Homeless Man''': ''(voice echoing over Jake, in CreepyMonotone)'' All you wanted was to keep fighting fires, and now you've gotten your wish. You'll be fighting them, Jake...'''forever'''.
