Even a terrifying and emotionally-charged SurvivalHorror video game series like ''Franchise/SilentHill'' can have some [[{{Narm}} inappropriately cheesy or unintentionally goofy moments.]]

[[folder:Silent Hill 0rigins/Zero]]
* [[NightmareRetardant If you want to sleep soundly]] even after playing this game, note that you can have Travis run around in a freaking ''dog suit''.
* In a game filled with grotesque, twisted monstrosities that reflect the psyche of the titular town's inhabitants, you'd expect the final boss to be at least equally or more horrifying than the rest. Now prepare yourself for your greatest foe yet, one that is bound to haunt your dreams to your very grave: [[spoiler: A BigRedDevil, out of nowhere. Out of all things, they went with a generic red devil ripped out out of ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}'' or ''VideoGame/{{Doom}}'' that looks ''entirely'' at odds with the series's signature monster design, complete with demonic GeometryMagic and falling meteors. No, seriously, ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwCedAHwJzs&t=45s just look at the fucking thing.]]'' ]]

[[folder:Silent Hill 1]]
* So much of the dialogue and the voice acting. However, many fans find a certain [[NarmCharm charm in the narm]]. "Huh, radio. What's going on with that radio?"
** What is astonishing about that line is how Harry goes from sounding dismissive towards the radio to being awed by it in the span of two sentences.
* "MY DAUGHTER WILL BE THE MOTHER OF GOD!" Actually, every single one of Dahlia's lines.
** "It was foretold by gyromancy!" Just sounds like some random divinity mumbo-jumbo, right? [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyromancy This is Gyromancy.]] You are now picturing Dahlia spinning around in circles and falling over again and again and again.
* The classic "corpse in the locker" JumpScare. Once you get over the shock, it's hard not to think something along the lines of "Huh, so ''[[StuffedIntoALocker that's]]'' what happened to the Glee Club president."
* Harry's tone of voice is often very mismatched for the situation he's in. When [[spoiler:Lisa Garland]] begins gushing blood and transforming into something unexplainable, he runs away in horror and blocks the door so they can't reach him... and then proceeds to kill the mood by whispering their name in an almost curious tone. Similarly, in the ending where he realizes that [[spoiler:his daughter Cheryl]] is effectively dead, he collapses in despair and repeats their name, over and over - except he doesn't sound sad, but more annoyed, as if [[spoiler:Cheryl]] is still here and is just being uncooperative.

[[folder:Silent Hill 2]]
* Not even ''Pyramid Head'' is inmune to this; whenever he walks, his head actually bobs back and forth as he drags his Great Knife behind him. This detail [[NightmareRetardant saps some of the scaryness out of Pyramid Head]] when he decides to quickly leave the room where James has his first personal encounter with him, looking more like a spooky masked chicken.
* "Eddie, have you gone nuts??"
** "Eddie, you can't kill someone just for the way they looked at you!" This delivered like a kindergarten teacher to a child, swapping "kill" for, maybe, "push".
** "I'm kind of lost." (incredibly long pause) "... Lost?"
** Seriously, the way she says "Lost?" makes it seem like she's not just confused, but that the very concept of someone being lost is incomprehensible to her.
* The fight with [[spoiler:Eddie]] comes off really awkward; despite being presumably human, he can soak up a few clips worth of ammunition. This alone wouldn't be so bad, except that you have almost no space to maneuver, so all you're doing is emptying your guns into him at near-point blank and hearing him awkwardly gasp like he's being pelted with small rocks.
** When [[spoiler: Eddie]] says, "Let's party!" just before the fight. It kind of deflates the disturbing character [[spoiler: he]] was becoming.
* James' random, VideoGame/EarthwormJim-esque yell just before [[spoiler:the two Pyramid Heads kill Maria is definitely narm]].
** He strains a bit on the line just before that, sounding a little nasally.
---> ''Stop! Leave her alone! Leave both of us the hell alone!!''
** What makes it even better is the sudden British accent that he never uses before or after that line.
* On the open streets of the town after dark, you'll sometimes get ambushed by Mannequins that appear from over various gates and fences. What makes it narmy is that they don't leap over, but instead are passively hurled across, as though they were just kicked out of a nightclub by bouncers.
* Eddie just hanging out and eating a pizza in one scene. Where did he get it from? Did he not think it was infested or something? "Monsters everywhere, this hellhole trying to kill me, but I wouldn't want to waste this perfectly good pizza!"
** And then there's James' own thoughts on the matter. Special mention to how he practically spits out the last word:
--->"This town is ''full'' of monsters! How can you just sit there and eat ''peytza?!''"
** The redubbed version on the HD Collection somehow manages to make James’ pizza line even more ridiculous given the way Creator/TroyBaker reads the word [[SuddenlyShouting pizza]]. Now James goes from being annoyed by Eddie’s lack of enthusiasm to find Laura to being a pizza hater in one dub change.

[[folder:Silent Hill 3]]

* Even the most horrifying of cutscenes in ''3'' can be made into Narm by suiting Heather up in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH95w1WdyJg Princess Heart costume]].
** Don't forget [[CallingYourAttacks HEAZZZAAAA BEEEAAM]] and ''Sexy Beam''! Both complete with silly noises and colors.
* "Shut your [[GoshDangItToHeck stinking]] mouth, [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch BITCH]]!" Konami has no moral qualms about [[spoiler:showing one woman throw up a demon fetus and then have another woman swallow it]], but they draw the line at a PrecisionFStrike? Such harsh language was uncommon for video games at the time, but come on!
* Every single one of Claudia's lines, not helped at all by the glorious FakeBrit accent. The maker of a LetsPlay of the game was so amused by it that every subsequent instance of the word "God" was instead spelled as "Gawd", ''even in direct transcripts from the game''.
** What's worse is that Claudia's accent doesn't even make sense, [[FridgeLogic when you think about it]]. Her father, Leonard, does not have a British accent, and Silent Hill is in America. You could argue that Claudia lived in England for some time, but do you really see someone as nuts as she living anywhere else but her rust and blood ridden "paradise?"
*** What's weird is how Claudia [[spoiler:and Alessa]] have British accents when neither of their parents seem to. Double weirdness/{{Retcon}} points in [[spoiler: Alessa's case since she '''didn't even have''' a British accent in the first game or in ''Origins'']].
* Heather answers a payphone in a locker and some never-identified man wishes her a happy 31st/24th birthday, and an extremely bizarre one-sided conversation ensues. All Heather can say after he hangs up? "... But you're wrong. It's not my birthday." Interesting thing to focus on.
** "Happy Birthday, dear 'Hooareyou'..."
** Several players noted that the mysterious caller's voice bears an amusing resemblance to Creator/WoodyAllen's. Although, this may push it back into NightmareFuel territory when you remember that Heather is underaged...
* The person who reviewed the game for the ''Official U.S. [=PlayStation=] Magazine'' regarded the Closer monsters as this, dismissing them as big sock monkeys in an otherwise positive review (four-and-a-half stars out of five).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Silent Hill 4: The Room]]
* Henry's epic-level DullSurprise reaction to everything from people being brutally murdered in front of him to [[spoiler:discovering the corpse of the murderer in his apartment]].
** What really sells that last one is how he actually pinches his nose and looks disgusted at first, but when he finds what's making the smell, he goes back to his normal reaction, as if to say [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight "is]] ''[[UnusuallyUninterestingSight that]]'' [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight what that was?"]]
* Cynthia's death scene features the very spine-chilling and sad piece "Room of Angel", actually a theme of the game's main antagonist - both the music and lyrics make it a TearJerker in that context. As for Cynthia's death, the ''music'' may provide effective tone, but if you notice the lyrics in that situation? "Here's a lullaby to close your eyes/It was always you that I despised/I don't feel enough for you to cry." [[SarcasmMode Why, thank you.]]
** What killed it for some was the immortal line, "Are you okay?" Which was so out of place that it cracked most people up on their first playthrough. It's hard to take the scene seriously when Henry is asking a woman who is not only covered in blood, but has covered the room in her blood, if she's okay.
* The nurses that belch everywhere is meant to disgust and revolt the player, unfortunately a certain bug ''destroys the horror''. If Henry floors them while they're on a flight of stairs, they'll constantly belch their way down to the very bottom. Its absolutely hilarious.
** The nurses aren't the only monsters beset by goofy sound design. The dogs roar like panthers for some reason, and the ape like creatures make stock monkey noises.
* While discussing Henry's bizarrely locked apartment with Eileen, Frank the superintendant bluntly mentions that he keeps an umbilical cord in his room and that it's started to smell terrible recently. Eileen seems none too disturbed to learn about this [[SarcasmMode creative choice]] of memento, her tone of voice suggesting she might even want to know more about it.
* On that note, some of the weirdest things in the game occur in the "normal" world. Along with the super's odd and disgusting keepsake, there are also notes detailing an incident where the apartment building's tenants ganged up on ThePeepingTom and stripped him naked (referred to as "skinning" him), which is treated like an ordinary group activity. They might have been going for a disturbing effect with much of it, but [[TheComicallySerious the completely straight-faced way it's presented]] (everyone involved treats this bizarre stuff as if it were perfectly normal) makes these moments feel like they came out of an unusually dark Creator/MontyPython sketch.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Silent Hill Homecoming]]
* ''Homecoming'' has few moments of full-on narm, but "You gotta be shittin' me!" is not something you should say when encountering a new monster type if you want to keep the eerie atmosphere intact. It doesn't help that this line is, word for word, something Travis Touchdown also said in ''VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes'' [[spoiler:while being ambushed on the toilet]].
* Alex Shepherd is in a mostly abandoned town that is riddled with chasms blocking all exits to the town, and the only means of departure is by boat. However, in spite of encountering killer monsters, in addition to the previously mentioned problems with the town, he can inspect an old beat-up vehicle and wonder "Why hasn't this been towed? It's clearly broken down." Seriously Alex, is that what's on your mind at that moment?
* There's a dead body model that is used over and over throughout the game. It's scary the first time around, but it quickly seems lazy as Alex comes across it time after time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Silent Hill: Shattered Memories]]
* The cutscene where Harry meets up with Michelle in the bar. After Michelle says a few things about how her relationship wasn't what she thought it was, it cuts to a shot of Harry, whose staring-off-into-space expression indicates that he wasn't paying attention.
* There's also calling for Cheryl in the first area. "Cheryl? Cheryl? Sweetie? CHERYYYYL!"
* Kaufmann is a complete ham in this game. We'll just mention his bizarre sex rant. "'''[[https://youtu.be/jg4o9KRW2K8?t=2m30s THE TIGER IN SPACE!]]'''" which he then ends with "You know, people who get enough don't need analysis. And you clearly are not getting enough."
** Made even worse knowing the ending. [[spoiler:He's not talking to Harry, he's talking to Cheryl. He was telling a 22 year old woman that she should have more sex to solve her psychological problems. Uh... what?]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Silent Hill: Downpour]]

* Every time Murphy screams, he sounds ridiculous. It's understandable that he would scream like that when the Void is tearing pieces of existence out of him, but he does so ''constantly'', even when slipping down what's basically a water slide.
** And then there's the childish "Get away from me!" he'll do on occasion.
* The flashback of [[spoiler:Charlie's death: [[SkywardScream "CHARLIIIIEEEEE!!!"]]]] Then we get treated to an awkward closeup of a little girl screaming. The models definitely don't do it justice.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Other]]
* While the games' soundtracks are excellent for the most part, it is kind of amusing when Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn informs us (in "I Want Love") that "[her] Swiss cheese heart knooooows! Only kindness can fill its hoooooles!" (Swiss cheese, really?)
** "This Sacred Line" from ''Homecoming'' is a great song, but the strange emphasis in the lyric, "I return to my '''''soooul'''''-'''ah'''" is a bit cheesy.
* The comics aren't immune to narm. ''The Hunger'', a bonus "motion comic" in ''The Silent Hill Experience'', is a nigh-apocalyptic epic, but has some [[OffModel weird art in places]]. The very first panel shows the main character "walking" through a foggy Silent Hill by literally ''sliding'' across the screen. It looks like one of those Platform/{{Newgrounds}} games that WebVideo/{{Retsupurae}} would poke fun at.
** In the second part, there are some panels where the main character looks like he's been traced off of Creator/ChristopherEccleston of ''Series/DoctorWho'' and ''Film/GIJoeTheRiseOfCobra'' fame. Then there's the confrontation with an evil doctor who looks ''just like'' Creator/ChristianBale, and, in the next panel featuring him, it's the exact same image, only flipped. It certainly takes the reader out of the experience a bit.
* The ''entirety'' of the movie Film/SilentHillRevelation3D. [[NarmCharm Interestingly, this is]] ''[[SoBadItsGood not]]'' a case of VideoGameMoviesSuck.
** Especially Creator/MalcolmMcDowell as one of the villains, Leonard. What the heck was [=McDowell=] on before he stepped onto set? It's like he came from a different movie altogether.
* The [[SarcasmMode very polished]] HD Collection. For instance, the scene where [[https://youtu.be/58n-Gg1GrE4?t=9m56s James goes to the Lakeview Hotel.]] Cybil was right about the drugs!
** The signature Silent Hill "fog" that made for paranoia and claustrophobia is basically little puffs of cigarette smoke appearing out of nowhere and a line that you're constantly chasing to no avail. Sometimes there really is no fog to speak of and you are exposed to the game world ending in mid-air.
* The sheer existence of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EL1tmg89AI Silent Hill Arcade]] is hysterical in and of itself, being a light gun shooter in a series that [[SurvivalHorror doesn't lend itself to that genre]], but the voice acting ''really'' takes that cake here. The player characters are quiet, overly calm and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking vaguely Scottish]].
--> '''Tina:''' Eric? What's wrong?
--> '''Eric:''' I heard a scream from somewhere. Now.
--> '''Tina:''' Stop it.
