Melanie Jayne Chisholm (born 12 January 1974) is an English singer-songwriter, actress, performer and businesswoman professionally known simply as Melanie C. She got her start in 1994 as one of the five members of the Music/SpiceGirls, in which she was nicknamed "Sporty Spice" based on her {{tomboy}} persona and taste in athletic wear such as tracksuits, both of which defined her public image in the group. She has taken part in the group's subsequent reunion tours and performances.

In 1999, Chisholm signed with Creator/VirginRecords and began producing her own music. During the summer of that year, she recorded her first studio album, ''Northern Star''; upon its release in October, it sold 4 million copies, becoming the highest-selling album by a solo Spice Girl. After ''Northern Star'', Chisholm struggled with depression and an eating disorder following media criticism and speculation, and she postponed her second album (which she had begun recording in 2001) to 2003, when it was released under the title ''Reason''. She has currently released eight albums, the most recent being in 2020.

Chisholm is also an accomplished actress. She was nominated for a MediaNotes/LaurenceOlivierAward for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Mrs. Johnstone in the musical ''Theatre/BloodBrothers'' on London's West End, and she starred as Mary Magdalene in a touring show of ''Theatre/JesusChristSuperstar'' in 2012.

Her autobiography, ''Who I Am: My Story'', was published in 2022.
