''Street Fighter II: The Manga'' is a manga adaptation of ''VideoGame/StreetFighterII'' first published in 1993 in Japan, under the title ''Street Fighter II: Ryu''. It ran for 3 volumes. An English release was published in 1994, titled simply ''Street Fighter II''. It remained out of print for many years until UDON Comics rescued the series in 2008 under its current title.

The series follows the combatants of the World Warriors tournament on Shad, an isolated island with many different locales to simulate different countries and terrain. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile investigate the tyrannical dictator M. Bison, whose criminal organization, Shadaloo, was responsible for the deaths of many of their loved ones and poses a serious threat to the world. Bison is now the tournament champion on Shad, forcing all contenders to battle their way through the ranks before reaching him.

The third volume veered away from the game adaptation formula, focusing on the cast being invited to an island to face off against their EvilTwin--yes, even the villains.

This series is notable for giving a design and name to Ryu and Ken's master, Gouken, as well as pioneering the concept of Bison brainwashing people.

!!This manga contains examples of:
* AdaptationExpansion: The manga elaborates on the story of the game, fleshing out characters' backstories and including subplots about brainwashing.
* AdaptationOriginConnection: In this series Bison is also responsible for murdering Ryu and Ken's mentor, while Vega killed Chun-Li's father.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Bison's "Doll" drug can brainwash foes to make them serve him, [[spoiler:including Ken]].
* CanonForeigner: Ken is given another best friend in Cho, and Cho's old girlfriend Po-Lin and her little brother Wong-Mei are also manga-exclusive.
* ChekhovMIA: Ken is presumed dead after the opening battle with Bison's forces. Ryu discovers he's alive later on, [[spoiler:but he's then brainwashed by Bison]].
* ClothingDamage: Vega's claw tears Chun-Li's dress, forcing her to fight with one hand holding up her clothes. [[spoiler:Ryu destroys Bison with a shoryuken so powerful it destroys half his gi.]]
* EarlyAdaptationWeirdness: The manga only had the original 12 fighters to work with (since it was drawn before the ''Super'' iterations that added more fighters) and thus the author had to improvise to flesh out the story. Ryu is a much goofier hero than his gaming counterpart and a bit of a glutton, E. Honda has a one-sided infatuation with Chun-Li, Blanka is a thug who wants to join the ranks of Shadaloo, Guile is responsible for his friend Charlie's death (who was under the influence of M. Bison's mind control drug) and has a rivalry with Zangief, Balrog (the boxer) is a sympathetic character who ends up abandoning Shadaloo, Vega (claw) is responsible for the death of Chun-Li's father, and Sagat is a mere lackey who was already working for M. Bison when he was scarred by Ryu instead of a disgraced champion who joined the organization to seek revenge. The manga did end up giving a name and face to Ryu and Ken's sensei Gouken, who prior to the manga was just a nameless character alluded to in character bios, but even then his death at the hands of M. Bison was something that was not incorporated into the games, as Akuma (a character introduced in the later games) was responsible for the deed.
* EvilTwin: [[spoiler: The Four Kings and Guile, Ken, Ryu and Chun Li find they've been invited to an island with an evil clone of Bison... And seven other clones as well. It leads to all of them [[MirrorMatch fighting their twin]], though Ryu and Bison do a SwitchOutMove that lead to each man trouncing the other's clones.]]
* MercyKill: [[spoiler:Charlie was one of Bison's first test subjects and went insane from the Doll drug. Guile intercepted him as Charlie was attacking unarmed villagers, and was forced to kill his best friend to prevent more lives from being endangered.]]
* PragmaticAdaptation: Instead of characters flying to different locales for one-on-one fights, the island of Shad simulates locales from all over, letting the characters be in the same location overall but still fight in different areas.
* SheatheYourSword: [[spoiler:Ryu makes Ken return to his senses by refusing to attack him]].
* StayInTheKitchen: Vega says this nearly word-for-word when battling Chun-Li.
