-->-- '''Yasuho Hirose'''

''[=JoJolion=]'' (ジョジョリオン) is the eighth part of the ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' series and the longest, running from May 2011 to August 2021. It is preceded by ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureSteelBallRun Steel Ball Run]]'' and succeeded by ''[[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureTheJOJOLands The JOJOLands]]''.

Shortly after the [[RippedFromTheHeadlines devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan's Tohoku region in March 2011]], the town of [[CallBack Morioh]] is beginning to recover, but the landscape is now marred by massive faults that locals have started calling "Wall Eyes".

One day, university student Yasuho Hirose discovers a young man with amnesia (and four testicles) buried in the ground near the Wall Eyes and resolves to help him discover his identity. After an apparent false lead regarding a ship's doctor named Yoshikage Kira who they discover has died, Yasuho nicknames the man Josuke and pulls strings to get him temporarily adopted by the influential Higashikata family.

The newly dubbed Josuke Higashikata then begins the arduous task of trying to piece together who exactly he used to be. However, this investigation into his previous identity begins to uncover even more mysteries that link the destinies of the Higashikata family, who have been cursed with a mysterious illness for generations. The answer to all these mysteries may be a fruit that seems to have the miraculous ability to cure any ailment, but it is also fiercely protected by a race of humanoid beings who can turn their bodies to stone.

''[=JoJolion=]'' is set within the same continuity as ''Steel Ball Run'', so investigations into mysteries and curses are interspersed with unique Stand battles, from within the Higashikata family and throughout the not-so-sleepy town of Morioh. [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable At least there's no serial killer around this time.]]
----
!!Four testicles, four eyes, two tongues, and two sets of tropes:
* ThirteenIsUnlucky: All of the money bills produced by the Stand Milagro Man have a serial number ending in "13R". [[spoiler:The Stand is akin to a curse in the sense that the afflicted will constantly earn money until they are crushed by being buried in cash.]]
* AccidentalMurder: While chasing the Head Doctor of T.G. University Hospital, Josuke, Yasuho and Rai are attacked by a Stand, which seems to amplify the force of objects that collide into them. Josuke injures himself in one of these attacks and accidentally splashes his blood onto a nearby hospital patient, who is angered and tries to grab Josuke. Josuke blocks his hand with bubbles and ends up reflecting the force of the collusion into the patient, which is strong enough to snap his neck. Of course, [[spoiler:it later turns out that it was Wonder of U's power at work]].
* ActionGirl: The oldest daughter of the Higashikata family, Hato, whose Stand Walking Heart allows her to weaponize her CombatStilettos by extending the heels and use them as a piercing weapon. She first uses it after [[spoiler:she is betrayed and nearly killed by her would-be boyfriend Tamaki Damo, who she assumed loved her back. When it became apparent that was not the case, Hato uses Walking Heart to kick Damo's face in, all while shedding BerserkerTears.]]
* AfterActionPatchUp: Tsurugi covers an injured Yasuho in band-aids after their encounter with Doobie Wah, to the point where Josuke doesn't recognize her.
* AnachronismStew:
** One of [[spoiler:Toru's]] defining character moments is listening to Music/ElvisPresley's "The Wonder of You" to maintain composure. However, while Elvis' recording of the song was released in 1970, the album it's listened off of is ''The Wonder of You'', an Elvis compilation album with additional compositions from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra released in 2016. In contrast, ''[=JoJolion=]'' takes place in 2011, emphasized by the heavy usage of [[TrackingDevice GPSs]] and [[IProduct iPods]].
** A more glaring example is Yasuho's flashback to her first meeting with [[spoiler:Toru]] at summer camp, where she's seen looking up beaches in Okinawa on her smartphone and later [[spoiler:(presumably with the assistance of Paisley Park) successfully finds a medical practitioner (Satoru Afeku) to the standards that Toru's looking for.]] The problem is, given that Satoru's stated as being 10 years younger (79 rather than 89), this flashback presumably takes place in 2001, at which point smartphones would hardly even exist, with very few of those being advanced enough for such actions as searching specific locations on the internet or finding actual profiles of people. It's possible that all of this is thanks to Paisley Park, but [[spoiler:Toru]] does not seem surprised for what would be unheard of in those times. Perhaps it's an AlternateHistory where technological advancement occurred much earlier?
* AmbiguousEnding: If [[spoiler:Josuke tells Josefumi's mother what happened to her son]] in the final chapter is ultimately left to reader interpretation. The only thing that's made clear is that, regardless of his decision, [[spoiler:Josuke is content living his new life as a son of the Higashikata family.]]
* AssholeVictim:
** [[spoiler:The child Kaato murdered and was imprisoned for 15 years ago, was a school bully who constantly picked on Jobin and took advantage of the boy's [[ForgetfulJones short-term memory]] to [[KarmaHoudini get away with his actions]]. When the bully tried to murder Jobin for refusing to set fire to the house of a girl who tattled on the bully, Jobin unwittingly knocks the bully out [[TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening with his Stand]]. Kaato decided to switch the family curse onto the bully and buried him alive underneath the shrine on their family land, but eventually she was caught and imprisoned because her DNA was found on the body. Hardly makes the bully sympathetic, though.]]
** [[spoiler:Kaato does this again against Toru, who has already killed Jobin through his manipulation of Calamities via Wonder of U and has eaten the new Locacaca to enact a beneficial EquivalentExchange between two people. She first uses Space Trucking's cards to immobilize him, thwarting Wonder of U's automatic activation by not actually attacking him. She then pulls Tsurugi out of her deck of cards and has Tsurugi's petrifying body come in contact with Toru, beginning the equivalent exchange between them. Toru's Rock Human biology means she won't be tried for murder this time around, but Toru gets the proper punishment for having caused so much death in the Higashikata family in his quest for the new Locacaca.]]
* AttemptedRape: A series of misunderstandings and Yasuho being under the effect of Paper Moon King leads to Joshu unwittingly attempting to rape Yasuho in the toilet. Joshu gets a toilet tank lid to the skull for his trouble.
* BadassFamily: All members of the Higashikata family, including the women and extended relatives, are Stand users who don't hesitate to use their abilities when the going gets tough.
* BananaPeel: Aisho Dainenjiyama almost falls victim to this trope when he steps on a banana peel created by Paisley Park, but he prevents himself from slipping at the last second, much to Yasuho's confusion.
* BerserkerTears: Hato sheds these [[spoiler:after she is betrayed and nearly killed by her "boyfriend", Damo, who revealed himself to be EvilAllAlong. Unlike the usual example, she displayed TranquilFury while she used her Stand-enhanced heels to inflict mortal injuries on Damo in retaliation for his betrayal.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: A gender-inverted example with [[spoiler:Hato; when she finally realizes that Damo does not love her and intends to kill her entire family, she uses her Stand-enhanced heels to kick his face in. When her mother, Kaato, comes back after a 15-year imprisonment for child murder, she [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness immediately gets on guard and prevents her younger sister Daiya from interfering when Joshu starts attacking Kaato.]]]]
* BirdPoopGag: While [[VillainOfTheWeek Dainenjiyama]] is searching for Yasuho and Tsurugi, a bird's droppings land on his shoulder, causing him to emit a ClusterFBomb as he chases the birds away.
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler:Toru is defeated and Tsurugi is finally freed of the Higashikata family curse, while Norisuke has survived Speed King's attack and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. But the Higashikata family had to go through a TraumaCongaLine in the process, losing both Jobin and Kaato. Josuke meanwhile fails to find a cure for Holly Joestar's deteriorating condition, while Rai and Kei (the latter being the only other family he has) are also dead. Nevertheless, Josuke finally comes to terms with his identity and finds a new family in the Higashikatas who have come to accept him as one of their own.]]
* BodyHorror: Happens to people when they eat a Locacaca.
* BossRush: [[spoiler:Josefumi]] ends up facing one when he was trying to [[spoiler: save Kira]], having to fight/run from ''every'' enemy introduced by then sans Aisho [[spoiler:whom he stole the Locacaca branch from.]]
* BoxAndStickTrap: Norisuke IV and his grandson Tsurugi try to catch a dog with this. [[EpicFail It never even comes close]].
* CasualDangerDialogue: When Ojiro is using Fun, Fun, Fun to drown a naked woman, Josuke leans on the side of the bathtub, casually asking if she bathes weirdly in order to put pressure on herself like he does when he sleeps. It isn't until she starts asking for help that Josuke attempts to fish her out, though he then thinks that [[ComicallyMissingThePoint she was trying to drown herself]].
* CentralTheme: Several.
** '''Family versus Self-interest''': A major motivation by nearly the entire cast is the struggle between doing what's best for yourself, and doing what's best for your family. Josuke wants to rediscover his identity, but in doing so he puts his foster family at risk. Norisuke really comes to like Josuke and wants to assist him on his quest, but must also consider the issues that come with putting a stranger above his own family. Jobin must come to terms with doing what's right for his ailing son at the cost of putting himself in great danger, and even the main villains are motivated by a desire to keep their smuggling ring intact so that they can survive. One of the final fights even revolves around an abstracted form of this concept: [[spoiler:Wonder of U makes it so that selfishly pursuing the Stand causes untold Calamities to befall the pursuer. The catch is that being made to pursue something the Stand is also going after does not trigger the Calamity effect, because you're not technically pursuing the Stand itself. Wonder of U also becomes subject to LoopholeAbuse when Josuke figures out that automatic Stand attacks do not trigger the Calamity effect, allowing Kei to arrive and immediately shift the tide of battle.]]
** '''Self-identity''': Josuke's character arc revolves around him deciding who he is based on the experiences he has. He begins the story as a fragile and quirky weirdo, but the progressively darker circumstances of the story and the brutality he suffers at the hands of his enemies quickly begins pushing him towards being TheStoic. Other examples include Yasuho's struggle with her AbusiveParent and figuring out who she wants to be, Joshuu's desires to be loved and given affection, and Jobin's [[spoiler:descent into villainy by realizing his desire to save his son from the family curse outweighs his love for his father]].
** '''Rock Humans''': The central enemies of the part are "Rock Humans", silicon-based lifeforms who evolved alongside humans but with numerous evolutionary differences. They hibernate for long periods of time, have a ''very'' strange birth and childhood that borders on {{Squick}}, and are infamous for their terrible relationships with normal humans. What's interesting is how Rock Humans parasitize human society, infiltrating our institutions and constructing relationships that center around AllTakeAndNoGive in their favor. The later parts of the story are spent analyzing various Rock Human romantic relationships, [[spoiler: including Yasuho's relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Toru]], and contrasting how their selfish relationships mirror the selfless ones of the heroes.
** '''Community''': Part 8 and Part 4 mirror each other in that both center around the idea of the community of Morioh, but where Part 4 sees the community come together to defeat Kira, Part 8 sees the community become fractured and split by the Rock Human threat, which is symbolized by the arrival of the Wall Eyes and the 2011 Earthquake that destroyed the fault lines around town. The story examines many small communities within Morioh as well, exploring how each one functions and protects their members- from the Higashikata family, to the Rock Human gang, to [[spoiler: the Rock Human Hospital Team]].
** '''Mothers and Sons''': Several characters are impacted by their relationships with their mothers. Yoshikage Kira, and subsequently Josuke, is motivated primarily by his desire to cure his mother of her disease. Inversely, Josefumi's abandonment issues and trauma are brought about when his mother almost leaves him to drown in the ocean because of her resentment of him. In the Higashikata family, mothers are expected to sacrifice themselves for their first born sons, taking on the Rock Disease for them. And lastly, Rock Humans are abandoned at birth by their mothers, left to fend for themselves in the wild.
** '''Curses of the land''': There's several different curses in Morioh, most of which being related to rocks or earth; several characters try to find a way to remove the curses they're afflicted by - sometimes at a terrible cost. The firstborn children of the Higashikata family are afflicted by Rock Disease, leading other relatives to sacrifice themselves to save the victims. Milagro Man is an independent Stand that curses its victims with ever-increasing wealth, forcing the victim to pass the curse to someone else. The ginko biloba trees of Shakedown Road have been used by the residents to extort other people, and were possibly the cause of Johnny Joestar's death. The Locacaca fruit, thanks to its EquivalentExchange properties, can heal people but petrifies certain body parts in exchange. Josuke is cursed with amnesia and was found buried under the Wall Eyes, while Yasuho has been plagued by a Rock Insect [[spoiler:and a Rock Human]] during her youth. Finally, Morioh is infested by a high concentration of Rock Humans, which are described as both parasites of humanity and "part of the land"; their leader possesses the power of [[spoiler:inflicting "calamity" on anyone who pursues him, essentially cursing his opponents with extremely bad luck]].
* ChildrenAreInnocent: [[spoiler:Invoked by Norisuke IV, who wanted his children to avoid the shame of being associated with a criminal after their mother, Kaato, was imprisoned for murdering a child 15 years ago, by suppressing all knowledge of her and lying to them by saying she either died or left. Joshu and Daiya played it straight by knowing absolutely nothing of her prior to the imprisonment, thanks to them being very young at the time. Unlike Daiya, who responds with amazement when Kaato reappears and reveals herself as her mother, Joshu reacted with hostility and tried attacking her with Nut King Call. Meanwhile, Hato went behind her father's back while still young and discovered the sinister truth for herself, while Jobin still remembered Kaato and had fond memories of her.]]
* CluelessMystery: Josuke's QuestForIdentity plot doesn't give the reader any clue what his second identity could have been, since it was introduced as it was revealed. This is aside from meta hints (like his status as a Jojo).
* CombatStilettos: Thanks to her Stand, Walking Heart, Hato can extend the length of her heels and impale foes with them like spears, [[spoiler:as Damo learned the hard way.]]
* ContinuityNod: Kaato Higashikata's introduction begins with her being released from a prison aptly named [[Manga/StoneOcean Stone Ocean]] as seen on her prisoner uniform, an obvious reference to Part 6 which took place primarily in a prison and featured the first and currently only female Jojo.
* CoolOldGuy: The head of the Higashikata family, Norisuke IV, is shown to be an amiable and laid-back guy when he introduces Josuke to the Higashikata family. Despite his Stand not being suitable for combat, his love for his family makes him highly protective of them. Despite his initial suspicions, he eventually becomes an important ally to Josuke and is reluctant to betray him even as [[spoiler:he's being tortured by Damo]].
* DeliberateInjuryGambit: [[spoiler:Josuke intentionally gets injured by Wonder of U so he would be admitted to the T.G. University Hospital in order to continue his pursuit of said Head Doctor. This also spares Rai from the Stand's attack as his attention is shifted from chasing the Head Doctor to making sure that Josuke receives immediate medical attention.]]
* DenserAndWackier: Part 8 has several story elements being so out there that it seems like Araki is purposely making certain elements as aggressively weird as possible.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler:A flashback to Jobin's childhood revealed that the incident of Speed King manifesting was the result of a school bully try to kill a girl for tattling on him to the police, by having Jobin set her house on fire.]]
* DivorceAssetsConflict: [[spoiler:Norisuke and Kaato divorced 15 years ago after the latter was imprisoned for murdering a child, and upon the end of her prison sentence, Kaato is determined to take what she considers rightfully hers but Norisuke won't give her one yen]].
* DroppedInTheToilet: PlayedForDrama. [[spoiler:When Yasuho uses Paisley Park to enter a cell phone and infiltrate the Higashikata Estate, Jobin finds her out and drops the phone in the toilet to try and kill her from electrocution so that Yasuho doesn't learn about the New Locacaca plant. When Mitsuba finds the phone and pulls it out because she feels she [[IOweYouMyLife owes Yasuho her life]], Jobin urges her to place it back in the toilet, to which Mitsuba reluctantly complies, and Yasuho is only saved by last-second interference from Norisuke.]]
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: While by no means the only part to experience this trope, [=JoJolion=] is notable in the sheer number of characters that appear different after their introductions:
** Mamezuku's face is different in his first depiction, looking chubbier, with rounder eyes and what appear to be freckles on his nose. His hair also seems to be longer, while his outfit is decorated in more plant-themeing then when he appears in person. The colored scans also colored him green initially.
** Joshu's [[AnimeHair already weird hair]] was very different early on, being noticably shorter, having another tone on the sides of his head, and looking far less like sheets of paper then it was later depicted.
** Jobin has an entierly different haircut, lacking spikes, the shaved part on the side of his head, and having a ponytail. His outfit is also very different, being a suit and tie with more exaggerated spikes.
** Mitsuba went through a complete redesign after her lengthy absence after the start of the part. She also entierly lacked the arrow motif in her first design.
** Kei appears to have shaved hair in her first appearence. This would later be changed to having her hair be pulled back into a bun, which she in turn lets down upon confronting Josuke... which she then puts back into a bun upon returning from her [[TheBusCameBack similarily lengthy absence.]]
** Josefumi entierly lacks hair on the sides of his head intially, only having the pompudour. His eyes are also different at first, seeming to have pupils the same color as his irises. He also initially had the joestar birthmark, but this was quietly retconned away.
* EarthquakesCauseFissures: Because Araki never settles for any normal version of a trope, it's {{inverted|trope}}: in ''[=JoJolion=]'', big earth walls known as Wall Eyes appeared in Morioh right after the deadly 2011 earthquake.
* EccentricTownsfolk: Residents in Morioh are shown to be aware of some effects caused by Stands; such as The Gingko Tress, the people who learn of the Stand's ability use it to con someone, tricking their targets into extortion.
* EquivalentExchange: The Locacaca fruits are basically a HealingPotion, but the person who consumes the fruit loses another body part as [[TakenForGranite it becomes stone]]. Infertile women become pregnant, but they produce sand instead of milk. Elderly people missing teeth grow back stone ones. A famous baseball player heals his busted arm, but his jaw becomes solid stone. An elderly man grows back an amputated leg, but his eyes turn to stone and crumble away. There is one variety that does not apparently produce this exchange, [[spoiler:and it's the variety that apparently helped in the fusion of Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo into the hero Josuke Higashikata]], and that quality is what makes it desirable to a multitude of antagonistic parties.
* EtTuBrute: [[spoiler:Hato's reaction to Damo betraying and attempting to kill her with Vitamin C is ''[[TearJerker heartbreaking]]''.]]
* EverythingIsOnline: Taken to the absolute extreme with Paisley Park. The Stand can independently scan for any information online and break any encryption necessary to solve the problem. It can operate as a GPS, hack electronic devices, access medical and dental records, create video loops, delete files from cellphones, and even copy the functions of specialized electronic devices (e.g. become a portable X-ray machine).
* ExplosiveDecompression: Ozon Baby is able to induce this with its power to manipulate air pressure. Living organisms affected by the Stand will experience depressurization sickness which becomes increasingly severe the longer Stand is activated. At its worst, the crushing pressure can cause the human body to cave in on itself, as exemplified by [[spoiler:Mamezuku Rai, who only managed to survive using Doggy Style]].
* FakedFoodContaminant: Sakunami Karera's EstablishingCharacterMoment has her use her Stand ability, Love Love Deluxe, which can be used to make hair grow out of surfaces, to make a hair appear in a yakitori skewer, so she can extort money from the chef who made it.
* FamilyThemeNaming: The Higashikatas in ''[=JoJolion=]'' have four different levels of this.
** First, the firstborn men eventually change their name to Norisuke, after the first Norisuke from ''Steel Ball Run''.
** Secondly, the men in the family (except for Norisuke I [[spoiler:and Tsurugi, as far as we know]]) have their names (birth names in the case of the Norisukes) start with Jo (to be more specific, the 常 kanji): There's '''Jo'''shu and '''Jo'''bin, Norisuke II was born as '''Jo'''hei, Norisuke III was born as '''Jo'''shou, and Norisuke IV was born as '''Jo'''suke (常 being a different kanji from the 仗 used by the part 4 protagonist and the 定 used by the part 8 protagonist).
** Thirdly, the women use PlayingCardMotifs: Hato (Hearts), Daiya (Diamonds), Mitsuba (Japanese for "three leaves", which describes Clovers, the French name for the Clubs suit), and Tsurugi (Japanese for "sword", the equivalent suit to Spades in Latin tarot), [[spoiler:even though it's later revealed that Tsurugi is a boy.]] And then there's the family's matriarch Kaato (card).
** Fourthly, all of the Higashikata's Stands have '''"King"''' in their names: '''King''' Nothing (Norisuke IV), California '''King''' Bed (Daiya), Nut '''King''' Call (Joshu), Wal'''king''' Heart (Hato), Paper Moon '''King''' (Tsurugi), Speed '''King''' (Jobin), Awa'''king''' III Leaves (Mitsuba), and Space Truc'''king''' (Kaato).
** Finally, several of the [[spoiler:Rock Humans]] that Josuke faces are named after real life mountain ranges. Yagiyama and Dainenjiyama are both actual mountain ranges in Sendai, while Dolomite refers to the Dolomites of the Italian Alps. [[spoiler: They are likely fake names that the Rock Humans made to blend in with modern society.]]
* FirstGirlWins: Yasuho is the first girl Josuke meets and she is the one he falls in love with. Another girl named Karera Sakunami is presented as the love interest of his previous identity [[spoiler:Josefumi Kujo]], but Josuke is too different now to get along with her.
** Daiya shamelessly exploits this trope when she takes away Josuke's memories of Yasuho early on, and technically becomes the first girl Josuke gets acquainted with in order to seduce him. Fortunately, Josuke manages to get his memories back, thanks to a complicated MemoryGambit.
* FloatingInABubble: Soft & Wet's bubbles can be made large enough to carry a person inside of it, with Josuke using this as an offensive and defensive strategy.
* FlowerMotifs:
** Yasuho's skirt is adorned with roses, her last name is "Hi'''''rose'''''", and her hair is rose-colored.
** Like her Part 3 counterpart, Holly Joestar[[spoiler:-Kira]] also wears roses, except they're fashion accessories rather than her Stand that was trying to kill her.
** The cover of the August 2012 issue of ''Ultra Jump'' has [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/jjba/images/a/a9/Ultra_Jump_August_2012.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160517162052 Yasuho surrounded by roses and Josuke surrounded by orchids]]. "Orchid" is Greek for "testicle".
* ForcedFriendlyFire: [[spoiler:In the final battle against Wonder of U, Rai is killed by the Stand after its Calamity powers redirect Soft & Wet's hidden bubble trap into him, perforating him into human swiss cheese mere moments and 2 centimetres before he could do the same to Wonder of U.]]
* ForgetfulJones: [[spoiler:Jobin was this as a child, thanks to his family disease severely affecting his memory, requiring him to carry around a to-do list wherever he went. His school bullies constantly picked on him for this, and one of said bullies, after he is tattled on to the police by a little girl, comments how "lucky" Jobin is to be able to forget everything so easily, while the bully had to deal with a tarnished public reputation thanks to the girl.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Yasuho "accidentally" calling the fire department instead of the police hints at [[spoiler: her Stand Paisley Park manifesting itself.]]
** The fact that "Josuke" has the same (but differently written) name as his [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable counterpart]] is a small hint towards [[spoiler: his other identity, Josefumi, whose appearance & personality is similar to that Josuke]]. There's also the fact that ''Diamond is Unbreakable'' is the [[FourIsDeath fourth part]] of the series, the same number of testicles "Josuke" has, [[spoiler: possibly hinting that Josefumi "died" & fused with this part's version of Kira, becoming "Josuke".]]
** While being interrogated by Josuke, Ojiro notes how similar yet different Josuke is to Kira, before saying something that becomes oddly prophetic.
--> '''Ojiro''': [[spoiler: You look younger than him too...But somehow, it's like you're ''half-alike'' to him.]]
** Yasuho ([[BrainBleach unfortunately]]) notices that Josuke has 4 testicles. When Kira's body is found, it's briefly stated that [[spoiler: his corpse has ''no'' testicles.]]
** Shortly after the fight against Poor Tom, Soft and Wet's bubbles pop, [[spoiler: which is when Rai notices that these "bubbles" are actually strings spinning incredibly fast.]] [[spoiler: Rai not only knows about the Spin, but it becomes important in trying to defeat Wonder of U.]]
** In the very first chapter, Yasuho manages to snap a picture of a soap bubble coming out of Josuke's shoulder, but this bubble can't be seen anywhere else. Over ''a hundred'' chapters later, Josuke discovers [[spoiler: Soft & Wet's ability to create invisible soap bubbles from his shoulder which can only be controlled by Paisley Park through Yasuho's phone.]]
* FormulaBreakingEpisode: The penultimate chapter does not focus on Josuke, Yasuho, or the Higashikatas, but is rather [[spoiler:a WholeEpisodeFlashback to 1941 that focuses on [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureSteelBallRun Lucy Steel]] and a young man named Fumi-kun (later revealed to be Joseph Joestar), as they unravel the cause behind mysterious disappearances near the Higashikata Orchard.]]
* FreudianTrio: During the story, one forms between Josuke, Yasuho, and Mamezuku:
** The Id: Yasuho. Her naivete gets her in several conflicts with Mamezuku.
** The Superego: Mamezuku. He's incredibly stoic and analytic, rarely showing emotions unless necessary.
** The Ego: Josuke. He tends to alternate between moments of [[CloudCuckooLander intense silliness]] and [[AwesomeByAnalysis great intellect]].
* FusionDance: [[spoiler:It's revealed that Josuke is the fusion of this timeline's Yoshikage Kira, who takes the place of Jotaro Kujo in the Joestar family tree, and Josefumi Kujo, who also seems to be a Joestar. Josefumi made a deal with the Locacaca to save Kira's life after he was mortally wounded by the Rock Humans, and they were then buried together by a cave-in which occurred near the Lone Pine on the Higashikata estate. These grounds fused them together, and the power of the two men's Stands Killer Queen and the original Soft & Wet fusing to become Josuke's Soft & Wet. The kicker is that Josuke had no memory of his previous lives.]]
* GardenOfEden:
** Similar to the Biblical references of Part 7 dealing with the corpse of Jesus, Part 8 has quite a few references to the story of Genesis. Josuke, like Adam, is said to be the man who came from the soil (and is even famously NakedOnArrival). A good chunk of the plot also revolves around a fruit (the coincidences resulting in its creation once being attributed to divine providence) that the pursuit of which only seems to cause [[spoiler:further misery]]. When the fruit is finally [[spoiler:"consumed" for good]] at the end of the Part, it's by the actions of [[spoiler:a woman who explicitly says she's taking on the "sin."]].
** The final flashback all on its own strongly parallels the Garden of Eden. [[spoiler:A man and woman go to an orchard where a special fruit is supposed to grow. The woman wants the fruit and is lured in by the CompellingVoice of a creature explicitly compared to a snake (despite exactly resembling a ''guardrail''). While they do not get to the fruit in this story, they are still forced to flee and find themselves unable to return due to forces well beyond their control]]. In a very roundabout way, people in the area even tend to find themselves naked or at least with significant ClothingDamage.
** In contrast, however, the plot is ultimately about [[spoiler:the ''breaking'' of a "curse"]], letting those who survive finally be free of [[spoiler:the burdens on their family, and ''restoring'' hope to them]].
* GenreShift: Early on, the story is primarily a slice-of-life story not too dissimilar to Part 4 but with heavier elements of mystery, primarily focusing on Josuke's efforts to find his identity, his budding relationship with Yasuho, and members of the Higashikata family. Following the HalfwayPlotSwitch, it becomes more of a conspiracy thriller as the cast battles against (or with) the Rock Humans, who hide themselves in human society to do their machinations. And for the penultimate chapter and the first half of the final chapter, the story turns into a straight up ''[[Series/TheXFiles X-Files]]''-esque horror, before going back to slice-of-life for the second half of the final chapter.
* TheGoodTheBadAndTheEvil: Very broadly:
** The Good: Josuke, Yasuho, Kei, and Rai, whose main motivation is saving Holly.
** The Bad: Jobin and his side of the Higashikata household, who want to break the family curse, but also want to rise higher and benefit only ''[[ItsAllAboutMe their]]'' family; with generous helpings of SocialDarwinism and zero qualms about what they're willing to do to anyone who stands in their way.
** The Evil: The Rock Humans, who wish to exploit the the Locacaca solely for their own personal gain, and are largely sociopathic and unsympathetic.
* GoroawaseNumber: Joshu manages to steal money off the credit card of a fanboy of famed Japanese idol Nanami Rena by spelling out her name in Japanese numerics, being nana (7), mi (3), re (0), and na (7), creating a credit card number of 7307.
* HalfwayPlotSwitch: The first half of the story is mostly concerned with Josuke trying to find out his past identity. [[spoiler:When this gets resolved, the plot switches to Josuke trying to obtain the [[MacGuffin New Locacaca]] in order to rescue his ailing mother.]]
* HealingHerb: The spiky Locacaca fruits that appear with the Rock Humans are basically this, able to heal any ailment. However, the healing is a form of EquivalentExchange; for whatever part of the body it heals, another part is destroyed and [[TakenForGranite turned to stone]]. One of the first times this effect is seen is when Yasuho and Tsurugi spy Aisho Dainenjiyama selling a fruit to an elderly man missing a leg. The leg immediately grows back, only for the man's eyes to turn to stone and crumble away. Said man begins to ravage his wife and says that the two of them will just begin eating more and more fruit, restoring whatever part of the body they lost only to lose another, until they can live with the result.
* HealthcareMotivation: [[spoiler:Yoshikage Kira's motive for stealing a Locacaca is because it can cure his ill mother from an incurable and rare disease. Norisuke IV also took Josuke in in the hopes that his memories as Kira can be recovered to help lift the family's mysterious curse.]]
** [[spoiler:When Josuke finally gets to visit Holly, he decides to continue on Josefumi and Kira's tracks and get the New Locacaca to save her]].
* HeroesActVillainsHinder: This is a key difference between this Part and other parts of [=JoJo=], and the reason behind its infamous apparent lack of a BigBad. Josuke's goals of finding his past identity [[spoiler: and his identities' original goal of [[MedicalMotivation saving Holly]]]] have various other characters running into him and trying to stop him. This escalates into him discovering the Rock Humans' smuggling operation; from that point onward they become the principal villains of the story, [[spoiler: with [[BigBadEnsemble Jobin and Toru]] at the forefront.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: [[spoiler:Hato fell for Damo not knowing of his truly evil character, and even after discovering the truth, it took a long time for it to sink in until she and her entire family was put in danger of being killed]].
* HotterAndSexier: While characters had been nude in parts before, and genitals had been seen on infants in ''Stardust Crusaders'', ''[=JoJolion=]'' is the first part to show full, uncensored nudity on adults, starting with the woman that Ojiro Sasame has under his control with Fun, Fun, Fun, who's first shown with both of her nipples exposed while taking a bath.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Kaato claims that she "did the right thing" [[spoiler:in regards to murdering a child. Flashbacks to Jobin's childhood reveal that the kid she murdered was a bully in the boy scouts who Jobin wounded purely in self-defense. Kaato passed the family curse to the boy by having Jobin take him into the shrine, sacrificing him instead of herself. When the boy's body was discovered, she was the one charged with murder and not Jobin because it was her DNA on the boy's body]].
* InjuredSelfDrag: In the final fight, as Josuke is attempting land the decisive shot onto Toru, he gets attacked by the [[AnimalisticAbomination Obladi Oblada]] and in spite of it encompassing his body, Josuke drags himself until he manages to reach Toru's Wonder of U and delivers the final attack.
* JigsawPuzzlePlot: A stark departure from the standard action-focused [=JoJo=] plots, ''[=JoJolion=]'' juggles between at least four critical mysteries at any one time.
* KnightTemplarParent: [[spoiler:Kaato transferred Jobin's curse to a bully in his scout group by burying him underneath a shrine on her family's land, so she can continue looking after her son rather than sacrificing herself like her husband's mother did for him.]]
* LetsWaitAWhile: Inverted, hilariously so. Hato Higashikata considers that her relationship with Tamaki Damo is recent because they've only had sex twice so far. Not counting the fives times they bathed together.
* MeleeATrois: [[spoiler:Beginning with the Ozon Baby arc, Jobin splits off from the Rock Humans after being betrayed. He, his son Tsurugi, and his wife Mitsuba conspire to keep the New Locacaca for themselves, even roping his mother Kaato into it, against what remains of the Rock Humans and the trio of Josuke, Yasuho, and Rai Mamezuku.]]
* MemoryGambit: How Josuke manages to win the fight with Daiya and her Stand, California King Bed. Its ability is to steal the memories of anyone who violates a rule that Daiya sets, and returns them only if Daiya steps on the victim's shadow. Throughout the fight, Josuke attempts to set up traps to trick Daiya into stepping on his shadow, but ends up losing his memories of [[spoiler:meeting Yasuho]] and [[spoiler:using Soft & Wet]] in the process. The fight is resolved when [[spoiler:Daiya's phone is found in the refrigerator, having been placed there before by Josuke until he forgot about it, and ultimately lures Daiya into stepping onto Josuke's shadow being cast by the fridge light]].
* MissingMom: Kaato wasn't involved in her children's lives for 15 years [[spoiler:because during that time, she was imprisoned for murdering a child. When she came back home, most of her family save for Daiya and Jobin reacted with hostility towards her.]]
* MixAndMatchMan: [[spoiler: Josuke himself]] is the result of the mix between two men [[spoiler: Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo]] who were buried near the Wall Eyes and the soil caused an exchange between the two bodies.
* MommasBoy: Unlike Part 4 Kira, whose father enabled his atrocious behavior to monstrous extremes, this Kira is deeply attached to his mother, Holly Joestar-Kira. [[spoiler:To the point where he was willing to take extreme risks in getting the Locacaca fruit so her [[TakenForGranite disease]] will be cured. Josuke's extreme emotional breakdown upon seeing Holly's worsening mental condition is partially due to [[FusionDance half of him belonging to Part 8 Kira]].]]
* {{Motifs}}:
** ''Stones'' and ''statues.''
*** The main title comes from the story of ''Pygmalion'', which is a Greek story about a sculptor who falls in love with one of his own statues so much it literally comes to life. Whether or not this is intended to be symbolic or not is unknown.
*** A major element of the setting are the Wall Eyes, mysterious fault lines that have torn up the landscape around Morioh following the very real devastating earthquake that struck northeastern Japan in 2011.
*** The main villains of this part are the nefarious Rock Humans, human-like rock-based lifeforms that constantly rub up against humanity due to biological differences, with several pieces of information implying that hostility is an eventuality in relationships between normal humans and Rock Humans.
*** Josuke is a [[spoiler:flesh golem of sorts animated by mixing together the remains of two men]].
*** One of the major plot points is a mysterious disease afflicting the Higashikatas, [[spoiler:with said affects literally turning their victims to stone]].
** Also, EquivalentExchange.
*** A flashback that establishes this part's connection to the previous one concerns [[spoiler:what Johnny Joestar does after the Steel Ball Run race, and how his attempt to send away Rina's Rock Disease by using Ticket to Ride causes him further grief]].
*** The main protagonist's power can induce a version of this, by stealing a trait to be replanted later. [[spoiler:Half of his original identity as Josefumi could also do this, and the equivalent exchange induced by the Wall Eyes is how Josefumi and Kira became one]].
*** The primary MacGuffin of the Locacaca fruit also forces a form of equivalent exchange, one that can "cure" the Rock Disease, which is why all the human characters want it.
* MundaneFantastic: The general populace of non-Stand users are aware of a few Stand effects, such as Milagro Man's "curse" or the instant transportation effects of Les Feuilles. The Speedwagon Foundation hasn't been active in Japan [[spoiler:since just before the outbreak of World War II]] to look into these sorts of abnormalities, so these Stands are treated as pretty normal by people in the know.
* MyNewGiftIsLame: Inverted. Jobin Higashikata comes back from a trip overseas and gives everyone utterly lame souvenirs like a fake Oscar, a T-shirt, and an ashtray, and they ''love'' them. Meanwhile, Josuke's gifts are actually good -- a luxurious wristwatch and a prized live stag beetle.
* MythologyGag: The fight against Born This Way serves to be a recreation of the fight against Highway Star in ''Diamond is Unbreakable'', with Josuke having to evade an extremely fast SuperPersistentPredator riding a motorcycle, like how Josuke in Part 4 had to use a motorcycle himself to evade an extremely fast Stand, whereas Yasuho is trying to find Holly Joestar-Kira in T.G. University Hospital, like how Koichi (who also has the last name of [[LegacyCharacter Hirose]]) was trying to stall for time in the hospital so that Josuke could find Yuya's hospital room.
* NakedFirstImpression: Josuke in ''[=JoJolion=]'' is introduced in the story naked save for a sailor hat.
* OlderThanTheyLook: The parents of the Higashikata children looks extremely attractive for people who are in their 50s.
** Poor Tom has the physique of an infant, but the face of a middle-aged man and sits on a hospital's board of trustees.
** [[spoiler:Due to him being a Rock Human, Toru is able to have the appearance of a late-teen to young adult, even though he has been alive and active as an adult Rock Human as early as 1941, making him at least 87.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Hato is usually portrayed as a dumb airhead, but when she sees her mother, Kaato, again after the latter was gone for 15 years, she ''immediately'' takes Kaato's presence more seriously than the other members of her family except for her father, Norisuke IV. [[spoiler:Justified; she had learned, and was old enough to remember that Kaato was in jail for 15 years for ''murdering a child''.]]
** [[spoiler:In a flashback, the fact that Jobin wasn't experiencing any more memory lapses or acting sickly thanks to the hereditary family illness, caused Norisuke IV to suspect that his wife Kaato had somehow already cured Jobin of the illness, but both were alive and well, meaning someone else unknown to him has died in Jobin's place.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Yasuho's mother spends more time on drinking and [[ReallyGetsAround sleeping with other men]] than raising her daughter, causing a lot of tension between them.
* ParentalSexualitySquick: Inverted, Norisuke IV is the one disturbed that his daughter has sex with her boyfriend.
* {{Permafusion}}: It's eventually revealed that [[spoiler:main protagonist Josuke is actually a permanent fusion between Josefumi Kujo and the new world's Yoshikage Kira, as a result of the Wall Eyes merging them together while they were in a near death state.]]
* PietaPlagiarism:
** [[http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1108144-jojo-s-bizarre-adventure Josefumi imagines Holly holding him this way]].
** [[spoiler: Reversed later on when Josuke holds Holly as he proclaims his identity as her son.]]
** [[spoiler: A darker version of this occurs when Jobin (seemingly) murders his father Norisuke, and he briefly holds him this way.]]
* PlagueOfGoodFortune: Zaihei's Stand, Milagro Man, works like this. The Stand makes it so that the User will constantly earn money and never lose any, [[DeathByMaterialism eventually killing them by literally drowning them in cash]]. [[spoiler:The only way to escape the Stand is to trick someone else into stealing the User's money, causing them to become the new User]].
* ProudBeauty:
** Hato evidences a degree of narcissism, self-identifying as beautiful.
** Mitsuba used Jobin's money for multiple plastic surgeries. A lot of good it does her, as she [[spoiler: temporarily miscarries because of the procedure and permanently loses her nose]]. Jobin doesn't seem to mind, and is even turned on by her latest procedure.
* QuestForIdentity: The main plot of the first half of ''[=JoJolion=]'' is Josuke's ongoing attempt to find out who he is.
* RiddleForTheAges: Several of the deeper mysteries of the plot are never given a real explaination:
** The origin of the Higashikata Stone Curse is never explained, nor if and how it's related to Rock Humans.
** What the Wall Eyes actually are and why they awakened after Morioh's earthquake is never explained. Yasuho's narration in the first chapter hints they look like they're 'protecting the town from a threat coming from the sea', but this never ties into the plot of the Part at all.
** The human bite marks that both Yasuho and Josuke receive after getting close to the Wall Eyes, and seemingly awakens their Stands, are never explained and never mentioned after the first few chapters of the story.
* RomanticRideSharing: Hilariously {{subverted|trope}}. Daiya attempts to {{invoke|d trope}} this trope, with her and Josuke sharing the same bike, and her asking him to sing Music/{{Queen}}'s "Bicycle Race" once she starts pedaling. Problem is, Josuke is {{oblivious|to love}} of her advances on him, and because he's amnesiac, he has no clue what that song is.
* RoseHairedSweetie: Yasuho has pink hair, and is one of Josuke's strongest allies.
* RunningTheme: Rocks and stones. The main antagonists are mysterious Rock Humans, the Higashikata Family is afflicted by the Rock Curse/Disease, the preferred method of EquivalentExchange of the Locacaca fruit is turning body parts into rocks, and Johnny Joestar [[spoiler: got crushed by a boulder]].
* SpikesOfVillainy: A recurring theme with the antagonists; spikes tend to be present on their clothes, body, or Stands.
* StepfordSmiler: Josefumi Kujo secretly considers that he died ten years ago on the beach where he nearly drowned, and having no meaningful bonds to this world, looks forward to his death.
* TakenForGranite: It's almost a RunningTheme in ''[=JoJolion=]'':
** [[spoiler:The Higashikata family suffers from either a disease or a curse where the firstborn child of each generation slowly turns into a rock and dies. The boys of the family are made to crossdress to thwart the evil eye, as the first-born girls don't show symptoms until they're adults, but this is simply a superstition. Historically, the second-born son of the family would be its next patriarch, or they would adopt someone to marry into the family. Then, another tradition began, of [[HeroicSacrifice sacrificing]] one family member for the sake of another by using the mysterious properties of a shrine below a lone pine tree on the family estate. It would have been another child, but then Tomoko Higashikata, wife of Norisuke III and mother to Josuke (later Norisuke IV) took her petrified son into the shrine and switched places with him. A generation later, Norisuke IV's wife Kaato realized her time would be next, until her son Jobin brought her the body of a boy his newly awoken Stand Speed King had mortally wounded with an embolism.]]
** The Rock Humans enter the equation, being an entire separate species of people with a preponderance of Stand users amongst their population who have the inate ability to transform their bodies into stone and then enter a hibernative state. Their bodies also turn to stone [[spoiler:when they're killed]]. There are also Rock Animals with similar abilities and are often Rock Humans' pets or minions.
** The prized Locacaca is potent enough to regrow a whole leg, but in exchange a random body part transforms into rock. The fact that the new Locacaca variety [[spoiler:that fused Yoshikage Kira's spirit with Josefumi Kujo's body before the earthquake]] has no obvious rock-based EquivalentExchange drives the secondary conflict with the remaining Rock Humans [[spoiler:who have Jobin in their employment]].
* TechnicallyLivingZombie: Blue Hawaii's ability functions this way by causing people who comes into contact with the blood of either Dolomite or someone he infected to take on the traits of a zombie. Additionally, the infected individual can still die after incurring too much physical trauma.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Yasuho, under the effect of Tsurugi's Stand which renders her unable to distinguish between people, confuses Joshu with Josuke. She mentions that her crotch is soaked ever since she's called him, which was because she spilled a can of grape juice over her skirt earlier, but Joshu is only too happy to interpret it the wrong way.
* TranquilFury: [[spoiler: Hato unleashes a vicious Stand attack on Damo for betraying her and attempting to kill her family, all while maintaining a completely calm ([[BerserkerTears yet teary]]) face.]]
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening:
** Tsurugi claims early in the manga that Hato is a Stand user. [[spoiler:The first time readers see it manifest in person is after her boyfriend, Damo, betrays and attempts to murder both her and her entire family.]]
** [[spoiler: Jobin's Stand, Speed King, manifested in early childhood for the first time during an attempt by a school bully to kill him [[KillItWithFire by dousing him with gasoline and setting him on fire]], by rupturing the blood vessels in the bully's head and neck.]]
* UncannyValley: Some of the Rock Humans invoke this due to being not quite human and their inhuman natures peaking out at times.
** Yotsuyu Yagiyama. Even before the revelation of the Rock Humans' existence, his {{Bishonen}} features are offset by his slightly unnatural expression, his BodyHorror tendencies such as opening his eyes vertically to release a film like substance, presented with him manhandling Stands in defiance to the usual only Stands can touch other Stands rough and later his ability to turn into stone at will.
** Satoru Akefu, [[spoiler:even before it's revealed he's actually Toru's Stand, Wonder of U, posing as the posthumous doctor]], has several off qualities such as being able to teleport anywhere with ease, his proportions being spry, tall, and slender for a man nearing his 90s, and his facial features being described by Holly to be an artificial disguise to hide an incomprehensible form.
** Tsurugi's Stand, Paper Moon King, invokes this by having those initially affected by it to see everyone as a nondescript, {{Gonk}} regardless of gender, species or stature- making the victim unnerved by the sight.
* {{Unperson}}: [[spoiler:Norisuke IV had been actively suppressing all knowledge of his wife, Kaato, after she was imprisoned for murdering a child 15 years ago, to avoid the shame of being associated with a criminal. It didn't work with Jobin, who was old enough to remember her, or Hato, who went behind her father's back to find the truth for herself... but it did work with Joshu and Daiya, who don't remember her at all due to being very young when she was arrested. When Kaato comes back after being released, only Daiya reacts with amazement that she had a mother at all while Jobin still has a good relationship with Kaato. The others want her gone and out of the house.]]
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Josuke [[spoiler:splits Damo's head with a punch from Soft & Wet, right on the sidewalk]]. The general pedestrian reaction was mild confusion. Justified since [[spoiler:Damo was a Rock Human, and the people probably thought that Josuke had only broken a statue]].
* WaterTorture: Yotsuyu uses waterboarding on Yasuho in order to force her to bring out her Stand.
* WeWillNotUsePhotoshopInTheFuture: Josuke gets MistakenForMisogynist when Yasuho gets freaked out upon seeing photographs in Kira's apartment. After beating Ojiro Sasame, the two find out the pictures were fabricated to cast doubt on Kira if someone came looking for him.
* WhamEpisode: Because of the way the story is presented, ''[=JoJolion=]'' has quite a few of these.
** Chapter 16-17, where we learn that [[spoiler:Kei Nijimura is a Joestar and Holly's daughter, and is also ''Yoshikage Kira's sister''. Josuke happens to be [[FusionDance a fusion of Kira & someone else]], due to being buried under the Wall Eyes]].
** Chapter 21-22. [[spoiler: Johnny Joestar took back the Holy Corpse and later ''dies'' in an attempt to save his family from an unknown disease that makes their bodies folded & paper-like.]]
** Chapter 26-32: The Higashikata family is revealed to have [[spoiler:an incurable Rock Curse that affects the eldest son of a generation while affecting women when they're older, and can only be exchanged to someone else. Also, while fighting Yotsuyu Yagiyama, we find out that he's entirely ''made up of rocks'', which isn't a Stand-ability. Rather, its because he's part of a HumanSubspecies called [[SiliconBasedLife Rock Humans]].]]
** Chapter 33 & 39: [[spoiler:Jobin, the eldest son of Norisuke IV, is heavily implied to be associated with these Rock Humans. We also find out that the Locacaca Fruit doesn't simply just heal injuries; it heals a body part in exchange for turning another into stone. This is shown by Aisho giving it to an old man to regrow his feet... while his eyes simply turn into rocks, [[{{Squick}} while having sex with his wife in the car during this]].]]
** The entirety of ''Hato Brought Her Boyfriend Home''. It starts with [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Hato bringing her boyfriend, Tamaki Damo, into the Higashikata household]]. [[spoiler: He turns out to be a Rock Human, specifically the head of the smuggling cartel of the Locacaca Organization, and uses his Stand to ''nearly take out the entire family''. Then, while torturing Norisuke, begins telling him about ''Kira and Josefumi'', leading to...]]
*** ''Vitamin C and Killer Queen''. [[spoiler: The reason for Kira's and Josefumi's deaths, along with the creation of Josuke, is revealed.]]
*** Chapter 55: [[spoiler: Upon defeating Damo, Josuke learns of his previous identity. However, Jobin witnesses this and is contacted his mother, Kaato, who is just ''getting released from prison''.]]
** Chapter 95: [[spoiler: Jobin seemingly ''killing his father'' hours before the new Locacaca fruit blooms. In front of the rest of the family no less.]]
*** Chapter 97: [[spoiler: Any assumption that Jobin is the main antagonist completely thrown out the window...because [[TheWorfEffect he's swiftly killed by the real one]], who is ''Toru, Yasuho's ex''.]] Making matters worse is that [[spoiler: its been ambiguous if he actually died for a few chapters.]]
** Chapter 100: [[spoiler:Rai Mamezuku reveals to Josuke what he already noticed earlier: Soft & Wet's bubbles aren't bubbles, but strings spinning fast enough to look like spheres. He then reveals not only that he knows about ''the'' Spin, but that Josuke himself is a Spin user.]]
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: The beautiful Hato starts dating the very {{Gonk}}-looking Damo, much to the hilarious bemusement of her father and siblings. [[spoiler:It's too bad he's an evil Rock Human...]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Several mysteries introduced early in the part, like the "Flashback Man" Josuke remembers or the baby who washed up on the beach 100 prior, end up having no explanation.
* WomanScorned: [[spoiler:As soon as Damo reveals his evil nature to Hato and tries murdering both her and her entire family, she becomes ''[[TranquilFury extremely pissed]]'', to the point of manifesting her Stand, Walking Heart, and attacking him viciously with her Stand-enhanced heels.]]
* YouJustToldMe: When Urban Guerrilla explains in his MotiveRant how he plans on using the New Locacaca to transcend humanity, unlike how Tamaki Damo and the Smuggling Cartel just wanted money, Josuke asks if Urban Guerrilla is a doctor. He asks how Josuke knew that, to which he says it was just a guess based on what Urban Guerrilla was saying, but that he basically confirmed it for Josuke in that moment.
