317-year-old Hikari Hamura ([[GenderBlenderName a boy]]) is an aspiring artist who, after accidentally writing "Hikaso" on his shoes, has been saddled with the nickname "Picasso". Personally, he prefers Leonardo Da Vinci. Anti-social, he is one of the only two members of the "Riverside Club", where he goes and draws by the river after school. The only other member, Chiaki Yamamoto, is the one responsible for his nickname.
4
5One afternoon, an out-of-control helicopter crashes into them and they die. [[ShaggyDogStory The end!]]
6
7Actually, Chiaki dies, but Picasso survives with only a few scratches. A few days later, Picasso reaches into his pocket and pulls out a miniature version of Chiaki! It turns out that when she died, she prayed to the gods to spare Picasso and his talent, a wish that was granted. In exchange, though, Picasso must use his abilities to help others. When he sees someone's darkness, he draws what's present in their heart, then enters the drawing (leaving an unconscious body behind) and tries to fix the problem.

9''Genkaku Picasso'' ("Hallucination Picasso") is a manga by Usamaru Furuya, which was serialized in ''[[Magazine/ShonenJump Jump Square]]'' from 2008 to 2010 and collected into three volumes.

12!!''Genkaku Picasso'' provides examples of:
13
14* AllJustADream: As implied by the title, there's a chance that Picasso is making everything up because of his grief over Chiaki's death. [[spoiler: Sort of. The rotting on his arm is really his watch, and Angel!Chiaki is the note she gave him. At least, that's how it appears to everyone else.]]
15* AmbiguousSituation: [[spoiler:How much of the story's fantastical elements are Picasso's delusions or real is left unclear. For one, Jeanne hears Chiaki's voice when she speaks to her in her drawing despite her seemingly being an illusion created by Picasso's grieving mind.]]
16* ArtShift: Happens a lot during Picasso's dives.
17* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler:Picasso finally manages to do enough good to overcome his condition. Chiaki moves on to the afterlife, but not before letting Picasso know how she felt about him. Though saddened by her loss, Picasso still has plenty of new friends and has done a large amount of good for his community.]]
18* BookEnds: The first chapter has with Picasso and Chiaki at the riverside club right before the fateful accident. [[spoiler:The final chapter closes with the riverside club now including the people he helped, and Picasso finally able to accept Chiaki's death.]]
19* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:Maria Duel]] to Kana. It turns out that [[spoiler:Maria Duel isn't as dark as her music suggests]].
20* CannotSpitItOut: Sugiura's father cannot tell his son that he has money troubles because [[spoiler:his work suffered after his wife's death]] until Picasso reaches out to him.
21* ClassRepresentative: Kotone Ogura.
22* DidNotGetTheGirl: [[spoiler:Though Picasso did come to realize how he felt about Chiaki, it was too late and she had already gone to the afterlife, but he is able to finally move on from her death.]]
23* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:Hishida comes close, but Sugiura stops her in the nick of time.]]
24* EducationMama: [[spoiler:Yuto Honda's mother is revealed to be one of these. She gets better after Yuto being honest with his feelings makes her realize she's been projecting her anger toward her ex-husband onto her son.]]
25* EpiphanyTherapy: Once Picasso has done his thing, the person gets a burst of energy and feels better. Conclusions to the story show them still continuing to gain help to finish overcoming their problems.
26* FemaleMisogynist: One girl, due to seeing girls in real life and guys in [[{{Yaoi}} idealized stories]].
27* {{Foil}}: Picasso and Sugiura.
28* {{Foreshadowing}}: The rotting on Picasso's arm in the first chapter appears like a band. [[spoiler:The rotting's real form is Picasso's watch, which he was wearing the day of the accident and represents his inability to move on from the tragedy.]]
29* GayngstInducedSuicide: Attempted with [[spoiler:Hishida]]. She ultimately lives.
30* GenderBlenderName: Picasso's real name, Hikari. Commented on in [[spoiler:Hishida]]'s chapter, where [[spoiler:she states that she resents the fact that she wasn't given a gender neutral name]].
31* GirlfriendInCanada: Sugiura's friend Ota has one at first. Not in Canada, but he claims it's a long-distance relationship. [[spoiler:It's a lie he constructed.]]
32* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: A minor example. Part of the reason Kana got into Maria Duel was because she was worried there was nothing that made her unique like her sister. Meanwhile, part of the reason Akane started modelling was because she wanted to be able to express herself like Kana.
33* {{Hikikomori}}: Yuto Honda is a recovering one.
34* IdolSinger: Moe Sakura aspires to be one. The darkness in her heart comes from having her dreams crushed during an idol audition.
35* LastNameBasis: While most of the characters have full names, Sugiura, Manba and Ota are referred to by their last names only.
36* LimitedWardrobe: Picasso is always seen wearing [[SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack his school uniform]], even on weekends.
37* LonersAreFreaks:
38** Picasso's classmates thought he was odd even before he started passing out everywhere. Manba is very concerned when he thinks that the [[ItMakesSenseInContext S&M-magazine-reading, clarinet-licking nosebleed guy]] is interested in his girlfriend. He's also a bit sullen when he realizes that Picasso is pretty much his only friend. [[spoiler:This actually plays into the darkness in Picasso's heart; he's well aware how people view him, which only further makes him refuse to accept Chiaki's death and prevents him from recognizing how things have changed since.]]
39** Yuto is a loner too. He became a "hikikomori" - withdrawing from school because he couldn't connect with others anymore.
40* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Hishida. [[spoiler:Though she is not, it turns out, a ''boy''.]]
41* MaliciousMisnaming: Hikari miswrote the last character of his first name on his school slippers, and people teased him by calling him "Hikaso." They then take it one step further because of his drawing skills and calls him "Picasso".
42* MementoMacGuffin: [[spoiler: Chiaki's note, which is what angel Chiaki appears to others.]]
43* MissingMom: Sugiura's.
44* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Sugiura calls Picasso creepy after he confesses him being able to draw the hearts of other people in order to help them in a form of attempting to trust him. He regrets saying it after Picasso goes missing, realizing how hurt and betrayed Picasso might have been by his words.]]
45* NiceGuy: Hishida.
46* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: William Borise is a rather blatant {{Expy}} of Creator/WaltDisney.
47* OnlyFriend: Chiaki was the person Picasso was the closest to and despite what their interactions prior to the accident indicate, it's made evident Picasso treasured their friendship [[spoiler:as his inability to accept her death forms the darkness of his own heart.]]
48* OrWasItADream: [[spoiler:The ending is ambiguous about how much of Picasso's experiences were real or not, especially involving Chiaki.]]
49* ShowWithinAShow: ''Arengurion'', some kind of mecha anime, appears several times in the series and Ogura's heart takes the form of an ''Arengurion'' robot. From what we see of it, it bears similarities to both ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' and ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.
50* SociallyAwkwardHero: Picasso, full stop. He gradually gets better about this as his adventures have him making friends and getting out more.
51* SpiritAdvisor: Chiaki.
52* StalkerWithACrush: Manba seems to be one of these to Kotone Ogura. [[spoiler:Subverted. While he ''does'' have a crush on her, it turns out that the images of her in bondage were from a magazine that he found, and he was worried she was in some kind of trouble. Kotone was just substituting in place of the original model who couldn't make it as the photographer is her father.]]
53* ThereAreNoTherapists: There are certainly a lot of kids in Picasso's school with problems...
54** Chiaki, when she was alive, was very interested in psychology. When Picasso and her help people, she is usually the one who figures out why they're depressed. On more than one occasion, she solves the situation and cheers up the person.
55** When Picasso first freaks out at seeing his rotting arm, his teacher, thinking that he's still coping with the accident, offers to recommend him to a doctor.
56* ThrowTheDogABone: At the end of Moe's chapter, she along with Ogura and Manba discover the drawing Picasso made of her heart (a doll version of her stabbing Borise's characters) and they react appropriately. Luckily, he ends up getting invited to go to Borisland with Sugiura and Akane after they see his updated drawing of Moe's heart, and this time he gets to enjoy the day without being passed out.
57* VictimOfTheWeek: Picasso ends up helping someone each story. Lampshaded in the second chapter when he gripes he helped someone last week and has to do it again so soon. [[spoiler:In a twist, the final arc focuses on the people he helped helping ''him'' overcome Chiaki's death.]]
58* YaoiFangirl: Kotone Ogura. [[spoiler:She thinks girls are dirty because her female classmates picked on her when she was a child.]]
