!!Father and Son provides examples of:

* AffectionateNickname: Shou is usually the distributor of these. He takes the first part of someone's name and adds "-san" or "-chan". For example, he calls his father "You-san" and his neighbor Muroto "Mu-san".
* BatterUp: Youichi owns a metal baseball bat, which is implied to have been used during his gangster days. He once gave it to Shou to play baseball with his friends and he brought it to a sushi bar under the assumption his son was kidnapped.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Youichi is normally nice, but he'll fly into a fit of rage if anything sets him off.
* CallingParentsByTheirName: Instead of addressing Youichi as his father, Shou calls him "You-san".
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Youichi and Shou both have brown hair and eyes as seen on the manga covers.
* EyesOutOfSight: Youichi and Shou's neighbor, Muroto, has dark hair covering his eyes. He only does it because people say that his eyes are sinister.
* FormerTeenRebel: Youichi used to be a gangster before he settled down and became a teacher.
* GoodParents: Youichi cares about his son very much. He makes sure that he's safe from dangerous objects, has clean clothes to wear, and that someone is there to pick him up from nursery school. He almost went into PapaWolf mode when he thought Shou was being held hostage.
* HelicopterParents: Aki, one of Shou's classmates, has one. He gave her a cell phone, which had a GPS on it he used to [[StalkerWithoutACrush follow her around]]. His behavior freaked her out so much that she soaked the phone in water so that he would leave her alone.
* HouseHusband: Since his wife is away, Youichi has to take on a lot of housework.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: There are times where Shou doesn't realize that he unintentionally offends the adult characters. For example, when his mother came to pick him up from daycare, he asked her who she was and she was apparently so devastated that she disappeared.
* MissingMom: Shou's mother's absence is one of the major focal points of the story. Because she isn't there to help take care of Shou, Youichi has learned how to cook, clean, and do laundry. Not to mention him juggling the responsibilities of being a parent while managing his job as a teacher.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Mami is infamous for getting lost. In one chapter, she called her own cell phone and asked "Where am I?". Later, it's revealed that her brother also has a bad habit of getting lost.
* PapaWolf: When Youichi gets a phone call from his brother-in-law, he brings his bat to the restaurant, thinking that his son had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom.
* PaedoHunt: Invoked. One chapter ends with Aki's father, who follows her around to "keep her safe", being questioned by a police officer for spying on little kids.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: A few cases.
** Shou is noted to looking exactly like his father when he was little. When he and Youichi are in Bungo's cake shop, there are a few pictures, which show Youichi as a kid.
** Ta-san, one of Shou's classmates, has two older brothers who look just like him. Shou, who hadn't met them until he went to their apartment, nearly freaked out over the sight.
** Mami's younger brother, Shinya, looks just like her, but with shorter hair.
