->Boss: We're gonna have to do something about the pink.\
Oleg: You'd prefer a more manly shade, like purple?\
[Pierce, Shaundi, and the Boss all give Oleg approving looks.]

This is purple:purple being used to symbolize the power and/or coolness of a character, whether the character is badass, of RoyalBlood, or something else.

This trope existed at least as far back as BibleTimes, where the purple dye Tekhelet was mostly limited to Tabernacle tapestries and high priests' robes in Israel thanks to how hard it was to procure-- it could only be sourced from certain species of predatory sea snails, thousands of which had to be captured and carefully crushed in order to dye a reasonably sized garment. This more famously bled over into Phoenicia and UsefulNotes/TheRomanEmpire, whose own "Tyrian Purple" could only be worn by government officials and the exorbitantly wealthy. Purple later became a common color for royal robes in Europe, where the legacy and romanticizing of Western Rome was deeply felt after its fall. It was also the color worn by cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, before this was changed to the more familiar scarlet.

Some time later, purple became associated with either femininity, or fell on the evil side of GoodColorsEvilColors (like the Joker). But for those that thought EvilIsCool, it just helped purple be seen as a cool color. Then it became a stereotypical color for PimpDuds, and it was definitely cool again. Can be considered a YinYangBomb when you consider that purple is red and blue combined.

This trope comes into play if it's clothing or an item on the cool or powerful character, whether it's a hat, weapon, or BadassCape.

Nowadays, purple is often on the border of masculinity and femininity for the aforementioned reasons. If the latter comes into play, then this trope overlaps with RealMenWearPink.

Many s use ColorCodedItemTiers to convey the rarity and power of objects obtainable in the game. Worthless items are grey, uncommon ones are green, rare items are blue, and "epic" items -- the most powerful items that the average player can hope to obtain -- are purple. VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft does this, with most other [=MMOs=] following suit such that "phat purps" has become slang.

This is not just when any character who isn't a wimp wears purple. It has to represent power or coolness.

Incidentally, of all the visible colors on the color spectrum, violet has the highest frequency (courtesy of having the shortest wavelength), and is thus the most energetic and most powerful, per photon.

Compare GracefulLadiesLikePurple (and can overlap with some Action Girls), PurpleIsTheNewBlack, RedIsHeroic, BlueIsHeroic, HeavenlyBlue, GoldColoredSuperiority.

** Future Trunks wears a purple jacket and has purple hair. Both Trunks and his father Vegeta have a violet BattleAura.

** Frieza, one of the most formidable villains in the series, has a purple color scheme, and several of his attacks are either purple or pink. Same goes for King Cold and Cooler. 52** In Anime/DragonBallSuper, Universe 6's most powerful mortal fighter is Hit, who has purple skin. Not only is he physically strong enough to match and potentially defeat Vegeta and Goku , he's also in possession of one of the most broken powers around: [[spoiler:jumping in and out of time]].

The both suits have purple and black color scheme, which is unique for the Zaku II and standard for the Dom. Way until Amuro showed up, they were proven to be a serious threat to the Earth Federation.
** Tieria Erde from Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 pilots the Gundam with the WaveMotionGun.
** Angelo Sauper from Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn pilots purple machines.
** Anime/GundamBuildFightersTry:
*** The Mega-Shiki is a purple-themed Hyaku Shiki from Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam that has a Mega Rider/Mega Bazooka Launcher backpack attached to it. It proves its stuff by taking out Gyanko's [=R-GyaGya=], its beam saber cutting through the metal-constructed shield.
*** There's also the Denial Gundam, which has purple accented additions on its gray body and unleashes purple energy with its attacks. Its pilot, Junya Inose, uses it to pummel the Try Burning Gundam to a pulp using various martial art techniques he's "stolen" since leaving the Jigen Haoh School.
* Austria of Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers invokes this. He not only has purple eyes and wears purple a lot of the time, but has BlueBlood influences thanks to the Habsburgs, managed to build a powerful empire through alliances and marriages alone, was the boss of Spain, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia among others, and was TheManBehindTheMan to the Holy Roman Empire. Though in the present he is out of shape and dependent on Germany, Germany points out that his style of fighting was "magnificent," and it's indeed TruthInTelevision.
* Luea's human form in Anime/JewelpetMagicalChange has purple hair and enhances both her physical strength and magic power. She also has a purple LaserBlade.
* Manga/LaughingUnderTheClouds: A good part of the main cast belongs to the Fuma clan, known for their white hair and purple eyes. They are not albinos from birth, however. The hair and eyes are a result of the rigorous training they go through to become full members of the clan.

* Lucoa from Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid is a former goddess and her magic circles are purple. Tohru's father also purple magic and is called "The Emperor of Demise".
* Manga/Naruto:
** In his fight with Sasuke at the Valley of the End, Naruto uses a purple variation of the Rasengan, as a result of the blue sphere of chakra being enveloped and supercharged by his red Tailed Beast aura.
** Sasuke himself possesses a purple Susanoo after he evolves his Sharingan into the Mangekyo Sharingan.
**
* Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion: HumongousMecha Unit 01, is coloured mostly head-to-toe in a shade of bright violet. While it goes without saying that a beast of that size would be a force to be reckoned with, Unit 01 surpasses all other giant mechas in the series, curb-stomping foes others find impossible to even scratch, shrugging off nuclear-level explosions, and even [[spoiler:using its godlike powers to cause a Class 5 or Class 6 apocalypse because it's actually powered by the mind of the protagonist's mother, and the world had upset her son, so she went ballistic]].
* In Anime/Noir, purple is mainly associated with antagonists, including Altena, Chloe, and Silvana "Intoccabile" Greone, all of whom prove to be highly dangerous.
* Onpu from Anime/OjamajoDoremi was, for a while, the most capable Apprentice, and her theme color is purple. She remains skilled at magic in the later seasons.

** Marine admiral Fujitora wears a light-purple yukata and is a highly skilled swordsman with power over gravity.
* Manga/PandoraHearts has Alice, also known as the Blood-Stained Black Rabbit, who is one of the most powerful Chains in the manga. In the anime, the protagonist's eyes also turn violet when Alice briefly takes over his body after their MagicallyBindingContract. There is also the Will of the Abyss, , who combines the trope with MysticalWhiteHair. [[spoiler:She inherited both traits from their father Levi, a.k.a. Glen Baskerville, who controls five incredibly powerful Chains and is in charge of protecting the Abyss.]]
* Mewtwo in Anime/PokemonTheFirstMovie has purple eyes and is not only one-of-a-kind, but has psychic powers far greater than those of any other pokémon, (with the possible exception of Mew).
* All over the Anime/PrettyCure metaseries:
** Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure:
*** Jaaku King is completely purple and he's LargeAndInCharge. [[spoiler:In the sequel, Baldez' body becomes completely purple in the final episode because he is Jaaku King and he has transformed into a small version of Jaaku King. When he transformed completely into Jaaku King, he's more purple than in the first season.]]
*** The Zakennas are the largest monsters in the entire Anime/PrettyCure franchise. And their spirits are purple.
*** Illkubo uses often purple (dark) energy, and later [[spoiler:he fuses with a Zakenna and changes into a purple (than silver) monster. He nearly kills the Precures, but Jaaku King kills him because Illkubo could damage the Prism Stones]].
*** Belzei Gertrud is the leader and the strongest warrior of the Seeds of Darkness and he has purple as his theme color.
*** The Dotsuko Zone in general is associated with purple.
** Cure Egret alias Cure Windy from Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar has purple hair and eyes. Especially as Cure Windy, she is more associated with the color purple and is stronger than her Egret form.
** Anime/YesPrettyCure5GoGo:
*** The SixthRanger Milky Rose has incredible physical strength compared to the other five girls. She's also the only one who represents the blue rose which is equal to the five red roses represented by the Precures. Her theme color and her hair and is purple.
*** Cure Dream, the strongest of the five Cures has purple eyes, but has pink as her theme color.
*** The Director in Yes! 5 [=GoGo=]! has a purple cape .
** Cure Berry from Anime/FreshPrettyCure has purple hair, despite having blue as her theme color. Well, there is only one Cure in her team who has matching hair and theme colors. Her kicks are the strongest among the team.
** Cure Moonlight from Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure actually has silver as her theme color, but purple is also a dominating color of hers. Of course, being at least three years older than the other magical girls and being a Precure veteran have made her the strongest Precure of the group.
** Subverted with Cure Beat and Cure Muse from Anime/SuitePrettyCure. Both of them have a different theme color (blue and yellow, respectively), but Beat has purple hair and Muse's Fairy Tone Dodory is purple, the only transformation Fairy Tone that doesn't have the same color that matches the color of the Cure costume. Both Beat and Muse have powers that differ the powers of the main duo Cure Melody and Cure Rhythm. And Cure Beat's Beat Sonic and Beat Barrier are purple, too.
** Both Pierrot and Joker are the strongest villains in Anime/SmilePrecure and have purple as the theme color.
** Anime/DokiDokiPrecure:
*** Cure Sword is also a (one-month) veteran, and she's the best fighter of the four girls at all ([[spoiler:not counting Cure Ace who is stronger than all of them]]) only rivaled by Cure Heart with her finisher moves and by Cure Rosetta in hand-to-hand combat. Sword's costume, hair, eyes, attacks, BattleAura and MentorMascot are all purple.
*** [[spoiler:Regina wears a costume that was once RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver, but due to her More Evil Costume Switch, the red parts became purple. She also easily defeats the four Precures.]]
** Cure Fortune of Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure is stated in-series to be the strongest of the four main Cures, who are stated to be the strongest in the world, and is purple-themed. However, the series seems to give hints that Cure Fortune's powers are not hers, but her sister's, Cure Tender, who was one of many Cures struck down and captured by the powerful Phantom. A combination of MyGodWhatHaveIDone, HeroicSacrifice, HeroicSecondWind and MidSeasonUpgrade ends up ramping up her power.
** Cure Magical of Anime/MahoGirlsPrecure is this only by the virtue of having more experience with magic (but not that much) prior to meeting her partner.
** Cure Macaron, the magic CatGirl with SuperSpeed and retractable claws, has purple hair, eyes, and wears an impressively purple outfit.
** Anime/HugttoPrettyCure features Cure Amour, a RobotGirl with SuperStrength, who has lavender hair and wears a frilly purple dress.
** Anime/StarTwinklePrettyCure has Cure Selene, with her hair, outfit, and a few variations of her bow being purple. She's the only member capable of fighting and beating Galorge.
** Anime/HealinGoodPrettyCure has the spirit of the Earth, Cure Earth, in a purple dress with purple hair.
%%* Stocking, of Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt.
* Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica: Homura's color scheme is purple, and she's significantly more powerful than the other magical girls. However, WordOfGod says that she would only be the strongest should the other girls not know about her abilities; he says that either Mami or Kyoko is the strongest MagicalGirl [[spoiler:besides Ultimate Madoka]].
* Manga/Reborn2004: The Cloud Flame and Mist Flame are purple and indigo, respectively. Fittingly, Tsuna's two strongest Guardians are the Cloud Guardian Hibari and the Mist Guardian Mukuro.
* In Franchise/SailorMoon, Sailor Saturn is heavily associated with the color purple: her uniform has purple accents, her eyes are purple, even her magic is purple. She only awakens when there is a planet to destroy, a civilization to wipe out, or an Elder God to kill, solo. In her entire active history, she has only ever failed once.
* Saori Kido in Manga/SaintSeiya is the reincarnation of the Goddess Athena, with all the power that it entails, and she has long, flowing purple hair.
* Anime/ScienceNinjaTeamGatchaman: Berg Katse always dresses in purple, unless he's in an outright disguise.
* Certain characters who wear purple in Sorieke! Anpanman are thus represented as either magical or powerful in some way -- Nazobo since he teleported to the dream world, Yuyakeman since he paints the sunset once the day's done, Princess Durian since she's royalty, and Mrs. Dokudami since she makes healing herbs.
* The Kaiju Anti of Anime/SSSSGridman seemed to be a subversion, as in spite of his PowerCopying ability being meant to allow him to counter whatever Gridman used, after one victory, he kept losing subsequent battles. [[spoiler:Ultimately played straight, as following a HeelFaceTurn, he got one heck of a RedemptionPromotion, as he became Gridknight, a second Gridman.]]
* In Literature/TheStoryOfSaiunkoku, the eight main noble families are named after colours, and the royal house is purple.
* Anime/Symphogear:
** In G, gets her own Symphogear which is purple. She has the largest arsenal and she is way stronger than other Symphogear users.
** Symphogear GX gives us Carol Malus Dienheim, who primarily wears purple when using the Faust Robe of Dur da Blá, and was shown to be capable of fighting against all six Symphogear Candidates at the same time, while they were using the X-Drive. [[spoiler:Symphogear XV sees her return and continue to prove her strength while fighting on the side of the heroes, capable of going one on one with Shem-Ha Mephorash and coming close to defeating her.]]
* Ayeka Jurai of Anime/TenchiMuyo fame has purple hair and also happens to be the crown princess to the galaxy's most powerful royal family.
* Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle: Fai D. Flourite is a very powerful mage -- even with his power suppressing tattoo - and his magic is a very light purple. And it kicks serious ass once he decides to use it. He can travel between dimensions more than just once which other than him only Ichihara Yuuko and Fei Wang Reed can do. His magic can also grow infinitely which means he might one day be the most powerful mage ever in existence. It also ties in with the "Royalty wears Purple" aspect that pops up a lot as he is, technically, a prince of not just one but two worlds .
* Anime/VividredOperation: Zigzagged. Rei (a mix between Homura Akemi and Fate Testarossa) has a purple color scheme, but she doesn't have a Palette Suits of her own. However, she's a particularly extreme BadassNormal.
* Anime/YuGiOh:
** Yugi's trademark monster Dark Magician and related cards of the archetype wear purple (in the anime). Throughout the franchise, Fusion Monsters use a purple card background and include some of the strongest monsters in the game, such as Thousand-Eyes Restrict (which absorbs an enemy monster to use its power, prevents other monsters from attacking, and had to be banned in the real-life game) and the Five-Headed Dragon (a.k.a. Mythic Dragon, which has the highest stats of any monster out there, and can't be destroyed by battle with most monsters even if they do somehow become stronger than it is).
** Among his assortment of cool coats, Seto Kaiba has a few purple-colored ones, most prominently wearing one during the Duelist Kingdom arc.
** Marik, the BigBad of the Battle City arc, wears a purple sleeveless hoodie. His SplitPersonality Yami Marik wears a purple cape.
** Mai Kujaku/Mai Valentine wears purple outfits and is a pretty strong duelist even in duels she doesn't win.
* Anime/YuGiOhArcV: Yuya and his AllegedLookalikes all have a Dragon with a different summoning method as their ace method. While Yuya's Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Yuto's Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, and Yugo's Clear Wing Synchro Dragon all have 2500 ATK, Yuri's Starve Venom Fusion Dragon has 2800. Starve Venom is primarily purple in reference to purple-colored Fusion Monster cards. Similarly, Yuri wears a purple uniform in reference to Fusion Monsters and it signifies that he stands above the other Academia students who wear the standard blue/yellow/red uniforms which signify their rankings. The Professor, who is the leader of Academia, also wears a purple uniform.
* The second Anime/YoKaiWatch movie introduces King Enma, the king of the yokai world and most powerful yokai in existence. Naturally his medal is colored a unique metallic purple.
* In Manga/ZatchBell the main antagonist Zofis fits the "Royal"(or "Wannabe Royal", because his origin is unknown) part of this trope. Besides his big strength and having more powers than most demons, Zofis wears a robe, speaks politely, likes to command, created an army for himself, used ancient castle as a base and nicknamed himself "Lord". In the anime Zofis' spellbook, spells, clothes and even his body are purple. In the manga only his spellbook is purple, but it's darker than in the anime and very close to "Tyrian Purple".

* Art/TheApotheosisOfWashington: As a sign of his Election, the Celestial-in-Chief is draped in a purple tunic he wears over his general's uniform (this was done with the Roman emperors).

* Kula, the main antagonist of the VideoGame/MolesWorld animated series, is a powerful mage whose color motif is purple. The purple extends to the color of his eyes.

* ComicBook/AmethystPrincessOfGemworld: Amethyst wears purple. The magic of her House is purple, too.
* ComicBook/Aquaman:
** Garth, the original Aqualad. His purple eyes were initially considered a bad luck omen but were later revealed to be a mark of his royal heritage as a prince of a fallen Atlantean colony. The New 52 retconned purple-eyed Atlanteans into living indexes and historical records.
** Hila, Mera's evil sister, has purple hair and is a sorceress just like her sister.
* ComicBook/Batman:
** The Huntress, a part of the Bat Family, is almost always depicted wearing purple.
** The third ComicBook/2009, Stephanie Brown, also has purple on her costume, and as Spoiler it's the primary color. She seems to fit the "feminine" aspect of this trope.
** Barbara Gordon's ComicBook/Batgirl uniform as of the 2011 reboot also has purple accents, though considerably less than Stephanie's. Her original costume in the Silver Age was also sometimes purple, as it was in the TV series.
** Characters/SelinaKyle occasionally wore purple as a part of her SpyCatsuit. Originally, from the Golden Age to decades after, until the catsuits/spysuits became the permanent costume, her traditional outfit was a purple dress. In Catwoman: Year 2, she specifically switches from her gray Year One suit to become "dark royalty".
** Talia Al-Ghul, similar to Catwoman, is an on-again, off-again lover of Batman who is a sometimes a hero and sometimes a villain, and occasionally wears purple as the primary color of her costume.
** The Joker, with his notorious purple suit and tails, is feared throughout Franchise/TheDCU's underworld.
* ComicBook/BlackOrchid: The Black Orchid, a super-powered detective, wears an all-purple superhero costume.
* ComicBook/BlackPanther: Wakandan Vibranium is increasingly depicted in the modern era as having a purple glow when energized.
* ComicBook/Daredevil: Zebediah Killgrave, the Purple Man. His MindControl powers are tied into his color scheme, as we've seen in ComicBook/Alias. He also has a daughter, Kara, who can do the same. Her name's the Purple Woman.
* ComicBook/DoomPatrol: Dorothy Spinner's alternate future self in the Doom Force one-shot that was part of Creator/GrantMorrison's run, whose power expanded from being able to bring her imaginary friends to life to being a full-on MasterOfIllusion, wore a purple costume.
* ComicBook/ElfQuest: The mighty Djun in the "Hidden Years" and "Shards" storylines wears lots of purple.
* ComicBook/FantasticFour: Galactus is viewed differently by all races, and it is stated that humans see him in purple attire because we link the colour to royalty.
* ComicBook/GreenLantern:
** Star Sapphires wield the violet light of Love, and their costumes are normally the same colour. Their rings are among the most powerful weapons and tools in the Universe.
** The Indigo Tribe was co-founded by Abin Sur as a failsafe against the Guardians of the Universe. They wield the indigo light of Compassion, which has the power to enforce feelings of compassion onto those who have none. They're also capable of teleporting themselves and others across interstellar ranges, and replicating the abilities of each of the other Corps colours.
* ComicBook/Hawkeye:
** Clint Barton has always had purple as his signature color. In ComicBook/Hawkeye2012, this is taken to the extreme; he's always wearing something purple, and his entire apartment seems to be purple. While Clint Barton doesn't have any powers, Hawkeye is one of the mainstay and most popular Avengers and has single-handedly beaten people like Abomination, ComicBook/SheHulk, Alkhema, or the Wrecking Crew, and even entities like the Grandmaster, the Collector and even the multiverse-threatening Krona.
** Kate Bishop is the only one on both incarnations of the ComicBook/YoungAvengers without a fantastic or supernatural power, backstory, or enhancement,at least until a depowered Prodigy comes along, but even he has all the knowledge he accumulated as a mutant to back him up but this doesn't stop her from being one of the best marksmen in the world. 185
* ComicStrip/TheBoondocks: In one strip, Huey is debating whether to go see Film/AttackOfTheClones, having harshly criticized Film/ThePhantomMenace. 187* ComicStrip/ThePhantom: The Phantom wears purple spandex.

* Fanfic/AbraxasHrodvitnon: When Godzilla and Mothra are powering up via their symbiosis to unleash a blast powerful enough to completely level and irradiate an entire city , their bioluminescence synchronizes and changes colors, with purple being the penultimate color which it cycles through.

[[spoiler:When using her "Zero Gravity", the objects that float are covered in a purple aura, which she uses with devastating effect. 197* Any magic cast by one of the titular spellcasters in Fanfic/TheAwakeningOfAMagus is purple (aside from an Avada Kedavra, which is always green). This can lead to a case of CoverBlowingSuperpower, but Snape teaches Harry an incantation to make any spell a simple white (Death Eaters need it as part of their disguise). In addition, Harry's Animagus forms have some purple in them.
* Fanfic/CodexEquus: All over the place.
** Twilight Sparkle, now Princess Amicitia Sparkle Equestria, was born with a lavender pelt. She's also a very intelligent and talented mage to the point where she's considered a prodigy, and because of this, both her physical and magical growth as an Alicorn goddess are accelerated faster than the growth of a normal deity.
** Mana Equus, the thirteenth member of the Thirteen Empyreans, was born with a heather-purple pelt, and was the Alicorn goddess of Magic, Friendship, and Mana, and was notably the one who gave sapient Equinekinds the ability to use magic. However, she died during unknown circumstances. [[spoiler:She later comes back in the Fourth Age when Twilight Sparkle, in Ascending to godhood, ends up reincarnating as her and merging her own soul with Mana's. While Twilight does gain everything from Mana, even her domains and memories, Mana generally takes a "backseat" while Twilight remains the dominant personality, only emerging to communicate with her (and others) under specific conditions.]]
** Moon Ray Vaughoof, now Prince Canticum Lunae Cahaya, is heavily associated with purple, which features prominently in both his appearance and clothes. He is also a 'prodigy deity' and a very powerful psychic, believed InUniverse to be one of the strongest of his generation. Later on, a series of events would have him re-Ascension into an eldritch god whose cyclic nature makes him shift between states of life, death, and reincarnation, giving him different powers in each form. As such, he is physically the 'oldest' and most powerful member of the Trimortidae as well as any group he is part of (deities in the Codexverse get StrongerWithAge), though he is very inexperienced due to re-Ascending so late in life without growing into his power naturally. His three cyclic forms -- Kematian Cahaya, Kelahiran Semula Cahaya, and Kehidupan Cahaya -- are also associated with purple, as they are essentially alternative forms that embody different aspects of the natural cycle.
* Fanfic/GuardiansWizardsAndKungFuFighters: 's magic, which is more powerful than that of most other magic users shown, is colored purple.

* Fanfic/RomansEmpire: The biggest mob boss in Vale is named Violet Kincaid. She's feared throughout the criminal underworld and can even fight three armed men at once and come out unscathed. When she wears a purple dress to a party, Roman even says that it's the color of royalty, implying a connection.
* In Fanfic/RWBYReckoning, there's a mysterious figure on the side of Cinder. All we really know about them is they have purple eyes, and are immensely powerful, able to beat Darrel both physically and mentally.
* Fanfic/ShadowsOverMeridian: The banners of Queen Jade/Kage are purple, and her new outfit includes purple flame patterns in her battle kimono, a black and purple sash, and an amethyst tiara shaped like dragon/demon horns.

* Unicorn Lady Amalthea, the titular last unicorn from WesternAnimation/TheLastUnicorn, has purple as her color motif after white, the former presented by her purple eyes. She's the last of her kind and has enough power to bring the dead back to life.
* Randall Boggs from WesternAnimation/MonstersInc actually is purple when he's not using his chameleon ability for stealth. Though he looks it, he's no wimp; despite his scrawny little arms, Randall would have succeeded in suffocating the brawnier Sully were it not for Mike's intervention. Randall also appears to have the most powerful skills out of the monsters seen in the film, as he is lithe, fast, silent, and possibly skilled in engineering.
* In WesternAnimation/PussInBootsTheLastWish, Big Jack Horner always has a purple-stained thumb, due to how he taste-tests his factory's pastries, and wears fancy purple clothing, both because of the association with plum pies the character has in his original nursery rhyme and to highlight his high-class, privileged and wealthy background as a thriving bakery business owner and feared crime lord.
* The Evil Queen from WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs primarily wears a purple dress along with her black cape.
* In WesternAnimation/TurningRed, Abby's signature colour is purple and she is the most physically powerful member of Mei's friend group. She acts as a bouncer for the group's red panda racket, and knocks down Mei with a single punch.

* Film/TheDarkCrystal: The eponymous giant power gemstone is purple, and its rays, which feed the Skeksis' Magitek, are purple.
* Film/Descendants: Mal has purple hair and wears mostly purple, and she's the most powerful of the main characters by virtue of being the only one who actually uses magic on a regular basis.
* Trope in the first and third films of the Eastrail 177 trilogy, Film/Unbreakable and Film/Glass2019. All three main characters are ColourCodedForYourConvenience, with Elijah's color being a rich royal purple. Elijah is specifically the only of the three leads to not have superpowers, to the point of being incredibly fragile and ill most of his life.
* Franchise/Godzilla:
** Film/GodzillaVsSpacegodzilla: Spacegodzilla is bluish indigo in color and one of the most challenging monsters Godzilla has ever encountered.
** Film/GodzillaVsDestoroyah: Destoroyah's carapace is clad in hues of purple and red, has a purple beam weapon that penetrates anything it comes in contact with, and it is one of Godzilla's most powerful and vile foes ever fought in the Heisei era.
** Film/GodzillaVsMegaguirus: Megaguirus is the HiveQueen of the Meganulons, and most of her carapace is bright purple, save for some yellow and red highlights. She's also a formidable foe against Godzilla, thanks to her agility.
** Film/Godzilla2000: The Millenium Godzilla has purple highlights on his spikes and not only is he physically strong, he's smart enough to plan his attacks. For example, in Godzilla 2000, [[spoiler:when Orga is preparing to absorb Godzilla's [=DNA=], he rammed his head into Orga's mouth and blasted him from the inside-out with his Atomic Breath,]] and in Godzilla Vs Megaguirus, .
** Film/ShinGodzilla: In his final form, Godzilla is able to fire his trademark energy beam, but instead of blue, it's purple this time. [[spoiler:This is taken a step further where Godzilla fires multiple energy beams out of his dorsal spines, including a beam fired from his tail. Frickin' Laser Beams indeed.]]
** Film/GodzillaVsKong: The hi-tech and villainous Apex Cybernetics' Hong Kong headquarters has red and blue lights which create an overall purple hue. Meanwhile, [[spoiler:in the room where Ghidorah's decapitated skull, the still-living telepathic neurons of which are being used as Mechagodzilla's neural network; the cables wired into the skull]] are producing a deep purple light which saturates the room. Symbolically, the fake purple light of Apex's hallways emphasizes how Apex think they're the real masterminds who are in control of everything while the true purple light of shows it's really .
* Film/TheHouseWithAClockInItsWalls: Mrs. Zimmerman is extremely partial to the color purple and wears it almost exclusively, and is an exceptionally skilled witch.
* Film/KickAss: Hit-Girl wears a purple wig as well as a heavily purple-accented costume.

** Film/AvengersInfinityWar: Thanos himself, one of the most powerful beings in the universe, is purple; so are the Power Stone and any attacks which use the Power Stone for their basis. Notably, it briefly knocks Doctor Strange's soul out of his body, something that only sorcerers were previously shown to be able to do.
* Film/TheRovingSwordsman: The hero, Shen-yi, is a master swordsman and the best killer in the martial arts world, and spends most of the film wearing purple robes.
* Mace Windu wields a purple lightsaber in the Franchise/StarWars prequel trilogy. It's the only purple lightsaber seen in the films, which helps set him apart as an important Jedi. Creator/SamuelLJackson requested a purple lightsaber so he could see himself more easily in group battles. It's more common in the Expanded Universe, where purple is wielded by Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo and Kyp Durron, all powerful members of the New Jedi Order. VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic has Revan use one, and the color is treated as somewhere between the blue of a Jedi Guardian and the red color mainly used by Sith.
* Film/ATasteOfColdSteel: The plot revolves around a band of warriors fighting for the Purple Light Sword, a weapon whose blade can emanate a purple glow that illuminates a radius of several meters. The wielder of this weapon is invincible and practically indestructible.
* Film/TwelveDeadlyCoins: Rung-erh, the daughter of a powerful martial arts clan, spends the whole film wearing purple robes and a velvet cape. She is also the best fighter of the entire film, taking plenty of names single-handedly.
* Film/WarCraft2016: the mages forming the council of Kirin Tor, the wizard city, all have purple-glowing eyes.
* Film/XMenFilmSeries:
** Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast:
*** The 1973-era Sentinels; they are programmed to eliminate mutants and they have a purple coat of paint.
*** Blink's BattleAura and FacialMarkings. She's either the second-to-last or the last mutant left standing when the X-Men and the Free Mutants directly confront the Future Sentinels.
** Film/XMenApocalypse:
*** In his natural gaseous form, the god-like Apocalypse is purple, and his teleportation "bubble" also has a purple tint. The walls of [[spoiler:Cerebro glow purple when Xavier is possessed by him]].
*** The highlights in Psylocke's hair, her Horseman leotard and her psionic blade are purple, and she's very dangerous.
*** Mystique's risqué dress is shiny and purple, and she's the most effective combatant at the cage match.
*** The wormhole produced by Nightcrawler's teleportation ability is a luminous purple.
*** In a shot of Jean Grey screaming in the , a purple filter was used over her face, and it's a sign that .
*** Trope with Professor X, who is wearing a lilac (which is a pale shade of purple) shirt when he's Apocalypse's prisoner, and he's weaker than the god-like mutant.
** Film/Deadpool2: Yukio has purple hair when in her hero costume, and kicks some serious ass in the climax.

* Subverted in Literature/TheFourGospels. At his crucifixion, UsefulNotes/Jesus was dressed with a purple robe and was given a crown made of thorn by the Romans, both of which are symbols of royalty, but their purpose was to mock him. However, considering what exactly he is and what happened to him later on, this is ultimately played straight.
* Literature/TheAvatarChronicles: In Saga by Conor Kostick, everyone in Saga is ranked according to color based on their financial status, with the majority of the population being red and orange. The higher the color, the nicer the buildings such as malls/parks/etc you get to enter, and you have more say in the city's laws. The highest-ranking people hold violet cards, and get to wear purple to represent their status.
* Literature/TheCatWhoSeries: Book #15 (The Cat Who Went Into the Closet) reveals that Euphonia Gage believes this and wears a lot of purple.
* Literature/ACourtOfThornsAndRoses: Rhysand has got blue/violet eyes that are noted for being beautiful and very unique. It reflects his status as the strongest High Lord in history and the first who is not of pure High Fae blood.
* Literature/CradleSeries: Every member of the Akura clan that rules the continent has striking violet eyes. They might have something to do with the bloodline ability passed down by their Matriarch; stronger members of the family have more striking eyes.
* In Literature/CharlieAndTheChocolateFactory, Willy Wonka wears "a tail coat made of a beautiful plum-colored velvet," a fitting color for a LivingLegend SupremeChef GadgeteerGenius MadScientist member of the Fiction500.
* In Literature/DemonAccords, purple/violet is the aura of Chris Gordon.
* In Literature/TheDresdenFiles, members of the Senior Council of Wizards are given purple stoles to wear to signify their rank and power. The Gatekeeper takes it a step further, wearing robes of a "purple so deep it is almost black."
* In Literature/Dune, purple is the faction color of the Padishah Emperor.
* Literature/DyingEarth: Spellbooks left behind by Phandaal, last of Earth's legitimately-great sorcerers, are bound in purple.
* In Literature/Gor:
** Only Ubars (city rulers) and their family may wear purple.
** Trope in the Sardar Mountains, the lair of the Priest-Kings (the gods of Gor), it is the slaves who wear purple.
-->"Why do the slaves wear purple?" I asked Misk. "That is the color of the robes of a Ubar."\
"Because it is a great honor to be the slave of Priest-Kings," said Misk.
* Literature/HarryPotter:
** Dolohov's signature spell involves purple fire. When cast non-verbally, this severely injured Hermione even after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries ended. We never see it cast properly, but as Dolohov killed , it may well have been this spell that did it.
** Albus Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards in the world. He's described as wearing a purple cloak or purple robes several times, and in the memory of him visiting Tom Riddle in order to deliver the Hogwarts acceptance letter, his younger self is wearing a flamboyantly cut suit of plum velvet.
* In Literature/TheHeroesOfOlympus, the demigods in Camp Jupiter wear purple shirts.
* Mr. Impossible from Literature/MrMen. He's purple and he can do anything, even if it's impossible, such as turn invisible, fly ,walk up a tree, read a book upside down, and sleep by standing on his head.
* Literature/OneNationUnderJupiter: Emperor Piissimus is never seen without a purple suit.
* In the Literature/SeptimusHeap series Marcia Overstrand, the [=ExtraOrdinary=] Wizard, is always dressed in her bright purple official wizard robes. Her shoemaker keeps a special purple snake to make her shoes out of its skin, much to his dismay.
* In Literature/TheSeventhTower, violet is the most powerful color in the light magic spectrum. Not coincidentally, it's also the color of the highest of the seven orders of the Chosen. At one point, ponders why the Chosen light attack technique, the Red Ray of Destruction, uses red, which is the second weakest light after white. She promptly finds out upon experimentation that a Purple Ray of Destruction, while exceptionally potent, refuses to dissipate on impact as the red version does, leaving her and her allies dodging around the room for some time as the attack repeatedly bounces off the walls.
* Invoked by the Unicorn club in the Literature/SweetValleyHigh spinoff series Sweet Valley Twins: a clique of budding Alpha Bitches, the Unicorns adopt purple as their signature color because it's the color of royalty and power.
* In Creator/JasperFforde's Literature/ShadesOfGrey series society is organized based on what color people can see with those who can see purple at the top of society.
* In Literature/TheSeichiChronicles, Britan Westwood, who must become the strongest Hunter to have any hope of killing a certain Asager Shell, has naturally purple hair.
* Literature/TheUltraViolets, true to its title, does this frequently. Not only does Iris’ sudden purple hair indicate the first signs of the girls’ powers, but she also later gains the ability to shoot purple rays out of her hands. Additionally, the chemical that gave the girls their power in the first place was purple.
* In the Literature/HumanxCommonwealth series, the chiton of elderly thranx turns from a youthful blue-green to purple as they age. As the intelligent insects' traditions and social order invariably afford high status to their elders, this means that their most powerful Hive-mothers, scientists, and government or military officers tend to be so deep a purple as to border upon black.
* In the Kingdom of Jackels, worldsingers (wizards) snort a special snuff derived from purple flowers to enhance and focus their magic. Status within the order of worldsingers is indicated by tattoos of these same purple blossoms on the forehead: the more flowers, the stronger and higher-ranked the wizard.
* In Literature/TheZombieKnight, Field Marshal Sanko has violet eyes (her only feature that's visible behind her gargoyle mask), along with being one of the Vanguard's nine oldest and strongest servants and quite possibly the most powerful integration-type servant in the world.
* Literature/SholanAlliance has telepaths wearing purple.
* Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire: Members of House Targaryen tend to have violet eyes, and they were the ruling house of the Seven Kingdoms for almost three centuries. They were a family from Valyria, which used to rule the world for thousands of years. The violet eyes are actually a sign of Valyrian ancestry, though, so they are not necessarily a noble trait. For example, while only nobles of Volantis have violet eyes, most people from Lys have them, including the smallfolk.
* Literature/TheWitchOfKnightcharm: One of the new rookies at the evil WizardingSchool is Bahar, a witch who seems to be unusually powerful in that she's already able to cast spells (such as those required to brew her potions) before attending a single class. Bahar is also strongly associated with the color purple, as both her eyes and her headscarf are that color.

* In Series/BabylonFive, the Centauri invoke this. Among them, only nobles can wear purple; their secret files are called "Purple Files"; and their ships are painted purple. It's also played straight by Londo (wears purple as a noble, and is an AcePilot, a master swordsman and, when sufficiently motivated, a hell of a MagnificentBastard) and the Centauri warships (a near match for Minbari ships of similar size. The Minbari have the advantage of that stealth of theirs and thicker armour, but Centauri ships have showed comparable if not superior firepower, and only the First Ones can take that level of firepower and survive.)
* Walter White's sister-in-law Marie Schrader in Series/BreakingBad, who always wears purple and surrounds herself with objects in the color, is a subversion, as her obsession with the color represents her snobbishness and sense of entitlement which she does not warrant whatsoever.
* Pops up a few times in Series/Charmed1998:
** The potion to vanquish Belthazor -- a power upper-level demon (and his Expy Sykes) -- is purple.
** In "Charmed & Dangerous" Piper makes a potion to replicate her exploding power. She remarks that when it turns purple, it's a mark of how strong it is.
** Gideon, a powerful Elder, has purple orbs as opposed to the standard blue and white.
* Series/DoctorWho:
** The Fourth Doctor's Season 18 outfit is usually referred to as burgundy by fans, but it's actually a purple sort of red which the costume designer called 'plum' -- she claims she used it because it existed between the extremes of red and blue, and because of its associations with Roman patricians (and hence Lordliness). Season 18 took the Doctor's character in a far more noble and patriarchal direction than he'd gone in before then.
** Downplayed throughout Series 4, in which Donna Noble, the first companion of the revival era to really stand up to the Doctor, wears mostly purples, particularly in "Turn Left", in which she is the one unknowingly powering the parallel world. [[spoiler:This foreshadows her ascension as the Doctor Donna in "Journey's End", in which she is wearing a purple undershirt. Even after she is mind-wiped, she wears a purple blouse in "The End of Time", implying that the Doctor Donna is still locked inside her mind, giving her hints for foreknowledge.]]
** In "The Woman Who Lived", a stream of energy emanating from a dying character's chest in this color causes the Doctor to gasp, "Purple... the colour of death!" This could be a callback to the fact that mauve, a shade of purple, is considered the universal danger color instead of red in the universe of the new series, as referenced in "The Empty Child"... or it could just be an extraordinary coincidence.
* In TV coverage of UsefulNotes/FormulaOne racing in 2020, green indicates a better lap time, and purple is the best lap time.
* In Series/GilmoreGirls, Mia, the owner of the inn which Lorelai manages, always appears in purple.
* Franchise/KamenRider:
** If an antagonistic Rider shows up and they're wearing purple armor, they're probably TheHeavy and very dangerous. The list includes Ouja in Series/KamenRiderRyuki, Rogue in Series/KamenRiderBuild, Horobi in Series/KamenRiderZeroOne, Calibur in Series/KamenRiderSaber, and both Buffa and Glare in Series/KamenRiderGeats; as well as an enemy who isn't a Rider, Mashin Chaser in Series/KamenRiderDrive. The fact that most of these [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn and become Anti-Heroes -- Mashin Chaser even becomes the heroic Kamen Rider Chaser --]] doesn't detract from their power.
** Played with in Series/KamenRiderGotchard. At first glance, Valvarad seems to fill the same archetype as the villainous Riders above, being an aloof and far more skilled Rival to Gotchard who wears purple armor (even though he's not a villain, just a jerk). However, he starts getting hit with TheWorfEffect and it becomes clear that he is not, in fact, all that powerful; as his kitbashed equipment is inferior to Gotchard's fully-fledged Kamen Rider system and the fact that he CantCatchUp starts to eat at him.
** Some of the heroic Riders have purple-colored alternate forms. With both Series/KamenRiderKuuga and Series/KamenRiderKiva, the purple form is the MightyGlacier with the most brute strength and toughest armor. Series/KamenRiderDenO's purple form, and the Imagin ally that grants it, is the most destructive and reckless.
** In Series/KamenRiderOOO, the purple Core Medals power both OOO's SuperMode and the series' BigBad Dr. Maki. Even in OOO's hands, they're not safe, as both his and Maki's sets are gradually turning them into inhuman monsters; and using them in battle drives OOO into a berserker fury that he continually struggles to keep under control.
* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse:
** Kilgrave in Series/JessicaJones2015 is never called "the Purple Man" like his Comics counterpart, nor does he have purple skin. However, his wardrobe is primarily composed of purple colors. In addition, the appearance of purple in any shot almost always indicates his arrival or the presence of one of his agents. Whenever Jessica has a flashback to her time under Kilgrave's control, her memories tend to be tinted purple, and it is a good indication whether someone's dealing with trauma from an encounter with him, as Hope's prison attack makes clear.
** In Series/Hawkeye2021, Kate Bishop, certified ActionGirl and bound to follow the title character as the greatest archer in the world, is very often in purple, most importantly in her costume (a sheer contrast for the original Hawkeye dropping purple for black -- and even then, he accepts Kate's suggestion to don a purple suit in time for their last stand).
* In Series/TheMightyDucksGameChangers, the Ducks wear purple jerseys and they're the strongest team in Minnesota youth hockey.
* Series/MonarchLegacyOfMonsters: In the present in "Will the Real May Please Stand Up?", the powerful CorruptCorporateExecutive Brenda Holland wears a bright-purple suit, fitting her company's color motif .
* Series/OddSquad:
** The Management department's theme color is purple, with its symbol being a purple octagon. Odd Squad Directors, who wear predominantly purple in their uniforms and have power that surpasses their agents to incredible degrees, comprise the department.
** Oprah, more commonly known by her title of "Ms. O" prior to , wears a purple undershirt, purple Converse shoes, and a purple two-beaded necklace. She's also a PintsizedPowerhouse who is far and away the strongest agent out of the thirteen main characters, able to take down bears, chop fruit, lift up cars, and much, much more.
** Olive is no slouch when it comes to strength either -- after in "O is Not For Over", she undergoes training with Oscar that includes taking on his twenty-five Oscarbots in their CombiningMecha form, and it's implied that she won.
** Upon becoming temporary co-Directors in "O for a Day", Orla and Omar both wear Director uniforms (the ones made for boys, despite the fact that Orla is female). Omar has been seen to be TheLightfooted with high agility and high stamina in battle, while Orla is a ChildSoldier who is the strongest of the Mobile Unit.
** An aversion to this trope concerning Odd Squad Directors is Arctic Mr. O, who, despite wearing mostly purple, is incredibly weak and has very little battle proficiency. He's also not the brightest agent in the organization.
** The Odd Squad Timekeeper and her apprentice Olaia, introduced in "Off the Clock", both wear purple. They control all of the clocks and all time around the world.
* In Series/OnceUponATime, evil magic is a purple mist. Also, The Evil Queen's dark magic is purple. The magic for different characters is color coded (Cora is blue, Zelena is green).
* Series/TheOuterLimits1963: In the episode "Soldier", the titular character comes from a BadFuture where the ruling class is called "The Purple".
* Series/ShakespeareUnwrapped, a dramatization of Theatre/KingLear, color-codes the sisters. Goneril, the oldest and most power-hungry, wears a purple sash around her dress.
* Franchise/StarTrek:
** Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine: The Dominion -- the series' GreaterScopeVillain and eventual BigBad -- has purple as their primary color.
** Series/StarTrekPicard: For the Season 1 recaps on the official Star Trek site, Elnor's promo pic is the only one with a deep purple tint, and that's because he's the strongest, the most agile and the most talented combatant on La Sirenas crew.
* From Franchise/SuperSentai and Franchise/PowerRangers:
** Wolzard from Series/MahouSentaiMagiranger/Koragg the Knight Wolf from Series/PowerRangersMysticForce; TheDragon and a BlackKnight that could have killed the Rangers several times over if his honor hadn't led him to rationalize that they're NotWorthKilling.
** In Series/JukenSentaiGekiranger/Series/PowerRangersJungleFury, the first of the team's two Sixth Rangers is colored purple (and incidentally also wolf-themed like Wolzard/Koragg is).
** Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger/Series/PowerRangersDinoCharge features the violet mecha Plezuon/Plesio Zord. In the former's case, its power is so great, the villains FREAK when they find it's coming back to Earth. Both shows also have an associated Ranger, Kyoryu Violet/the Purple Ranger, but they're not quite examples since they're not particularly any more powerful than other members of the team.
** In Series/UchuSentaiKyuranger, the team's commanding officer, Shou Ronpo, becomes the team's first SixthRanger as the violet-colored Ryu Commander. Notably, this is something of a DoubleSubversion, as his initial form, Ryu Violet, used the Ryu Skill Kyutama, which wasn't meant for transformation, leaving him with an HourOfPower that proved to be a severe handicap. However, once the other Kyurangers used their Kyutama to give their Kyu Energy to Ryu, it became a Change Kyutama, and Shou TookALevelInBadass.
* Doris from Series/ThroughTheDragonsEye is colored purple, and is the stern, no-nonsense leader of the Keepers. (At least until she realizes she can't do her job without Jenny's help, or when everything stops working in the Veetacore House, at which point she's reduced to InelegantBlubbering.)
* Series/WordOfHonor: Gu Xiang usually wears purple and is a powerful martial artist.

* Purple was the signature color of Music/Prince, and he had typically associated it with being cool. Before him the group probably most associated with purple probably would've been Music/TheTemptations.

%%
%%* In Creator/SternPinball's Pinball/Transformers, the Decepticons are represented by "Decepticon violet" on the indicator lights and the playfield, even extending to the cabinet in some of the Limited Edition tables.
%%

* Wrestling/TheUndertaker wore purple gloves and ankle guards during the early to mid nineties.
* Wrestling/JohnCena wore a purple shirt around late 2010 to mid 2011.
* Many wrestlers wore purple wrestling gears from time-to-time such as Wrestling/Wrestler, Wrestling/Christian, Wrestling/ChrisJericho, Wrestling/ChrisBenoit, Wrestling/EddieGuerrero, Wrestling/ReyMysterio, Wrestling/TripleH, Wrestling/RandySavage, Wrestling/UltimateWarrior, etc.
* WWE Diva Wrestling/Ivory overlapped this with GracefulLadiesLikePurple as while she called herself a lady, she was also very Badass. 95% of her outfits were purple and she even carried a purple scarf to the ring with her in her early career.
* Wrestling/ZackRyder. WOO WOO WOO, You know it!
* Wrestling/SashaBanks adopted a few purple outfits after christening herself "The Boss".
* After winning the WWE Divas' Championship, Wrestling/Paige swapped her usual black and grey outfit for one that was black and purple.
* Around 2003, Wrestling/TrishStratus wore a lot of purple wrestling outfits. She won her fourth Women's Championship (matching a record held by Wrestling/TheFabulousMoolah) while wearing a metallic purple singlet.
* Wrestling/MickieJames showed a lot of fondness for purple outfits in the year 2009, when she held the WWE Divas' Championship.
* Wrestling/TheVelveteenDream wears purple quite a lot, the lighting and steam effect of his entrance is purple, and his finishing move is called the Purple Rainmaker.
* After starting her career wearing argyle sweaters and plaid skirts, Wrestling/PaigeTurner, the wrestling librarian, switched to a purple-and-yellow MinidressOfPower.

* Canadian figure skater Joseph Phan wore an elegant purple costume for his long program during the 2019-2020 competitive season because he performed to "Emperor Concerto", and since purple is the colour of royalty, it conveys to the audience that he's portraying an emperor who is "dancing" at his court.
* In this television promo which aired in Canada, figure skater Nicolas Nadeau is presented with purple background lighting, and the light which reflects off the ice surface has a purplish hue. He's tall and fairly large for a singles skater he's 6'1" with the ideal physique for the pairs discipline, and he moves with a lot of power and speed across the rink, so his triple Axel jumps are among the highest and biggest in the sport. Because he's known as a showman with rock star-like charisma (he has performed to Music/ElvisPresley and Music/DepecheMode for his long programs in the case of the latter, he's the very first skater to use DM's music in competition) who can get the audience at the arena to scream like fangirls at a concert, the purple colour further emphasizes his coolness factor.
* The Minnesota Vikings wear purple uniforms. In the 1970s, they were among the most dominant teams in the league and were dubbed "The Purple People Eaters".

* TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons:
** The Purple Dragons are the valiant knights of Cormyr in the TabletopGame/ForgottenRealms Campaign Setting.
** The abovementioned knights originally based their symbol on Thauglorimorgorus, aka Thauglor the Mighty, an ancient black dragon so old that his scales had turned violet with age - and since age equals power with dragons, Thauglor was one of the most powerful dragons in Faerun for a time.
** The World of Greyhawk, AKA: The default setting for Dungeons And Dragons, has Boccob, the Greater God of Magic, who favors the color purple for his priesthood.
** Added to the titular Dragons in one of the Magazine/Dragon magazine issues, and put into the official Dragon Compendium are the Purple Dragons. One of the three "lost" Chromatic DragonsThe other two being the Orange and Yellow, the Purple Dragons are notable for being one of the only two Chromatic dragons who can grow to Colossal sizeThe other being the Red Dragons and are also amongst the smartest of all dragons, and often taking over entire kingdoms. They're also unique in the fact that, unlike the metallic dragons who often have 2 different breath weapons, and the chromatics which have one, the Purple dragons have a breath weapon with three different types: a cone of searing energy, a burst of blinding power, or a deadly blade of pure energy.
** The Deep Dragons, first described in the Monsters of Faerûn book, were primarily a dark purple. Most players would rather face an angry Red dragon than a Deep Dragon because of the Deep Dragon's abilities, including the dreaded Level Drain. In fact, 4th Edition put the Dragon Magazine Purple Dragons on a bus and renamed the Deep Dragons to Purple Dragons, adding them to the Chromatic Dragon roster for that edition.
** In TabletopGame/DungeonsOfDrakkenheim, Delerium is a super-powerful source of magic in the form of a dark purple, faintly luminiscent crystal. Meanwhile, the only legitimate polity and source of study for arcane magic users is called the Amethyst Academy, who often use purple as a sign of their membership.
* In TabletopGame/Paranoia, Indigo and Violet are way high up on the security clearance spectrum, just below Ultraviolet. Some Ultraviolets worry that a Violet conspiracy is pulling off DragonInChief by tampering with their communications.
* In the Creator/ModiphiusEntertainment published game Unity by Zensara Studios, monsters with "elite status" are much more powerful than their Danger Levels indicate (an elite monster can take on 4 [=PCs=] that are of equal Danger Level to it). Elite monsters like Vampire Lords and Carnivex demons have their names on a purple colour bar, while normal monsters are just in red.
* Averted in TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 fanon, where purple (or orange) is considered to be a sneaky color by orks, definitely not a color the strongest ork would wear (red is faster, blue is lucky, black is tough, yellow is MoreDakka, etc.). Why is it considered sneaky? Well, have you ever seen an ork in purple warpaint? Of course not, that's how sneaky it makes them.
* In TabletopGame/Citadels, the best district cards (classified as the Special districts) have a purple colour code.

* In Japanese Kabuki, purple makeup is used to identify the character as a royal or a nobleman.

* In Ride/JourneyIntoImagination at Epcot in Walt Disney World, Figment, who is a dragon that has an ImaginationBasedSuperpower, has purple skin that is actually called "royal purple pigment" by his creator Dreamfinder during the second verse of the song "One Little Spark" in the first version of the ride.
* At Ride/UniversalStudios:
** Most of the Doombots in Ride/DoctorDoomsFearfall have purple-colored armor.
** In Theatre/TheEighthVoyageOfSindbad, the powerful sorceress Miseria wears a mostly-purple outfit.
** Initially played straight with Ride/TheIncredibleHulkCoaster, but later averted with the ride's 2016 update, which removed nearly all traces of purple from the attraction and replaced it with black or blue. Even the Hulk statue at the ride's entrance sports his modern look with blue pants instead of purple.
** Storm wears a purple and black costume in Ride/StormForceAccelatron.

* Megatron of WesternAnimation/BeastWars is very purple, very cunning, and very powerful. Ironically, his purpleness decreased every time he became stronger.
* Toys/Bionicle:
** Onepu is the only good guy set from the original series that has this color, and although he is "just" a Hobbits Matoran, he counts as a BadassNormal for being the captain of the Ussalry regiments and a champion Ussal racer.
** Shadow Kraata, colored purple, represent the "highest" and most dangerous form of the evolution of Kraata slugs.
** From the 2015 sets, Onua has a good amount of purple on him. He also has noticeably larger arms and a giant hammer.
* Franchise/Transformers: Galvatron and a number of other Decepticons, such as Shockwave and Skywarp. Heck, the Decepticon insignia itself is traditionally purple.

* In VideoGame/AdventureQuestWorlds, Chaos itself is purple. Drakath is The Champion of Chaos and has purple armor. Some of the Chaos Lordsare purple as well, as are some who are infected with chaos. Desoloth is powerful and is purple . Nythera and her dragon form are purple.
* VideoGame/AzurLane: Purple-eyed Enterprise was the most powerful character, and even after suffering power creep in subsequent years, she is still high-tier.
* In VideoGame/AzureStrikerGunvolt, Nova Tsukiyomi has purple hair, wears a purple uniform, and his powers are mostly colored purple IAmNotLeftHanded at first. He's also one of the strongest Adepts in the setting and one of the few stronger than Gunvolt, with his powerset including the ability to drop giant meteors on his enemies.
* In VideoGame/BlazBlueChronophantasma, every SNKBoss Unlimited character has a magenta aura on his[=/=]her character portrait.
* VideoGame/BattleAxe has purple as the default, recurring color scheme of it's SorcerousOverlord villainess, Etheldred. Her magic used for summoning goblins emits a purple aura, her castle is draped in purple, as is the skies outside her citadel and the fires in her quarters. She also has veins bursting with purple energy visible all over her, long flowing purple hair, and the color of her thunderbolts she sics on you in the boss battle.
%%** Two words: Kagura Mutsuki.
* The fuchsia outfit worn by the showgirl in VideoGame/BloodyGoodTime.
* Magus from VideoGame/ChronoTrigger wears a combination of purple and (depending on the artwork) a red or blue cape.
* In the VideoGame/CommandAndConquerRedAlert2 expansion pack Yuri's Revenge, the titular BigBad's forces are purple.
* In VideoGame/crossbeats REV., the hardest chart difficulty, Unlimited, is represented by the color purple.
* In the VideoGame/CrusaderKings games, purple is associated with emperors, the highest tier of playable ruler. The borders of emperor character portraits in Crusader Kings 2 have purple bands around them (as opposed to gold for kings, silver for dukes and copper for counts), and a special trait called "Born to the Purple" (available only to children of the Roman Emperor born after they've come to powerthe name derives either from the parents wearing Tyrian purple, which by sumptuary laws was restricted to the Imperial household, or from the designated birthing room for reigning empresses being entirely lined with porphyry, purple stone; both explanations were already being mentioned by the time of the first written mention of the "born to the purple" concept) provides bonus prestige, opinion, and marks the character as a favourite successor to the Eastern Roman throne.
* VideoGame/DeadOrAlive: Ayane is a ninja with purple hair and purple outfits. She is a deadly martial artist and killer despite her youthshe was 16 at the time of her debut and can keep up easily with the likes of Ryu Hayabusa in the asskicking department. Her most powerful technique in Ninja Gaiden is "Art of the Raging Mountain God" which unleashes an explosion of purple energy.
* Anna Gray, in the VideoGame/DetectivesUnited series, has powerful supernatural abilities (particularly TimeTravel) and wears purple in every appearance.
* In VideoGame/DragonAgeII cutscenes, the different mages have different colors manifest in their spells. Bethany, Hawke's younger sister, notably demonstrates a wispish purple in her magic; in games where Hawke is not a mage, she is identified as one of the strongest mages in Kirkwall, with impressive mastery of her powers.
* In VideoGame/DragonFable, Drakath subverts this trope and Nythera plays it straight.
* VideoGame/DragonQuestXI: The TrueFinalBoss has a purple body when his BattleAura is active and he is an immensely powerful evil god. Removing the aura reveals that his skin is actually green underneath.
* Franchise/TheElderScrolls:
** VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIVOblivion: The Emperor's robes. They're clad in purple and the Emperor ruled all of Tamriel .
** VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim: Legendary Dragons from the DLC Dawnguard are clad in purple scales and markings, and they have stronger stats than Alduin, making them the strongest dragon breed. Not only can they breathe fire or frost, they can drain the player's health, magicka, and stamina with the Drain Vitality dragon shout, which cannot be countered with spell absorption or spell resistance. Thanks to their high level of 75, Legendary Dragons have a chance to drop Daedric gear or other high-quality loot.
* In VideoGame/Espgaluda II[='=]s console-exclusive ArrangeMode, there are three colors of bullets: red, blue, and purple. Red and blue bullets can be shot away, but purple shots cannot.
* In VideoGame/EternalDarkness, the three Elder Gods Xelotath, Ulyaoth, and Chattur'gha exist in a state of ElementalRockPaperScissors, and are associated with the colors green, blue, and red, respectively. The fourth god, Mantorok, is associated with the color purple and can overpower or out-strategize any of the three other gods.
* In VideoGame/EternalSonata, the main antagonist, Count Waltz, wears a crown and robes that are mostly a royal shade of deep purple.
* VideoGame/FableI: Lady Grey, the UltimateAuthorityMayor of Bowerstone, wears a unique purple gown and matching accessories.
* Throughout Franchise/FinalFantasy, the Behemoth, infamous s, is purple.
** VideoGame/FinalFantasyII has main antagonist TheEmperor, with very pretty purple eyes (he's always had them, but considering the graphical format of the game, it's been hard to tell until VideoGame/Final Fantasy). In both games he is a very powerful sorcerer and chessmaster, so it fits the trope...but it's also likely to have been chosen simply because of how well it goes with the rest of his mostly-golden-with-purple-accents character design.
** VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV: In remakes the Lunar Eidolon Optional Bosses are blue and purple. Dark Kain, Kain's EnemyWithout, wears purple armor ; and in some depictions the normal Kain wears purple armor himself. BigBad Zemus wears a long purple robe.
** VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI: A lot of the powered-up monsters in the new Bonus Dungeon in the Gameboy Advance remake are purple and pink. Terra's Esper form is pink in sprites, but artwork and her Dissidia design depict it as purple. Kefka's god form is a purple FallenAngel.
** VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII: Cloud Strife wears a First Class SOLDIER uniform, which is purple.
** VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII: Edea's whole color scheme is black and purple and she specializes in powerful sorcery.
** VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy: As mentioned, there is Terra's Esper form, as well as all four outfits of TheEmperor.
** Caius Ballad from VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2. His hair, clothes, and BFS are all a dark shade of purple.
%%** VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX: Kuja's iconic Stripperific attire is various shades of purple, including his hair.
* Franchise/FiveNightsAtFreddys:
** William Afton, originally known as Purple Man, not only killed at least five children, but he also managed to stop Freddy from saving them. Keep in mind that Freddy is a very powerful robot for the game's setting, and yet when Afton touches Freddy, the game freezes and prompts "You can't" before exiting to desktop. [[spoiler:It's also implied he could be a security guard. He also managed to somehow get away with murder, not being caught by the police and only being taken down when he was crushed alive in the Springtrap suit. Even that didn't stop him, since he's still somewhat alive in VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3.]]
** In VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysSisterLocation, Funtime Freddy has a white and purple color scheme.
* Lilac from VideoGame/FreedomPlanet has purple-colored skin and is The Heroine of the game.
* In VideoGame/GodOfWar2018, enemies/bosses who are multiple levels above Kratos' level (and therefore extremely difficult to fight) will have their health bars coloured purple.
* In VideoGame/GodOfWarRagnarok, Heimdall, who along with Thor is one of the chief lieutenants of Odin and one of the most difficult foes in the game, has purple colored eyes and bifrost magic.
* While unintentional, the strongest element in the VideoGame/GoldenSun series is Jupiter (wind+lightning), which is associated with the color purple and strong against 80% of the enemies and bosses. Even the GameBreaker in the third game is affiliated with Jupiter. This is in contrast to main protagonists' element Venus (earth+nature+darkness); while intended to be the strongest element strongest weapon unleash, the same bunch of monsters have high resistance against it, rendering Venus-based offenses and therefore the main protagonists useless most of the time.
* VideoGame/Gradius Gaiden introduces the Falchion Beta, a CoolStarship with purple highlights and weapons. It's also the most offensive-oriented fighter out of the four. Its weapons are: Rolling Missiles, grenades that split into two missiles that slide horizontally; Auto-Aiming, a machine gun that fires a stream of bullets above and behind the fighter in a 180 degree angle, and Gravity Beam, a laser that fires giant purple orbs that quickly mow down bosses.
* In VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoSanAndreas, the Ballas, the Grove Street Families' rival gang, rock purple colors and are one of the most powerful gangs in Los Santos.
* VideoGame/GuildWars2:
** The ColorMotif of the Mesmer class is purple, and of all the magic professions, they are the ones stated to be using magic in its most raw and basic state, granting them the power to warp reality.
** The game uses a tier of colors for item quality, with purple being reserved solely for Legendary items, weapons that have the highest possible stats, and completely unique appearances. Similarly, Legendary enemies have a purple border on their unit picture.
** During the Breachmaker battle Scarlet created various colored holograms. The final and most powerful was the Ultraviolet Hologram.
* Franchise/Halo: Every piece of technology built by the Covenant Empire is purple, from their vehicles to their starships.
* VideoGame/Hellsinker:
** One of Fossil Maiden's subweapons is a double sword. The purple blade does more damage than the yellow blade, at the expense of penetration.
** Luna chips -- the ones that recharge your Luna meter, keeping your firing quantity high, are purple.
* One of the most dangerous dragons in VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic games is the fairy dragon, who is purple. This cute abomination can cast very high-level spells before your army can even move.

This class of Eco is colored black with purple hue and is stated to be the most powerful and dangerous of them all, demonstrated in the first game's intro cutscene. In the second game, the experiments on Jak with Dark Eco grant him SuperMode, which is accompanied by him surrounded with purple lighting and dishing out powerful, purple-colored attacks. The most powerful gun/gun class is the Peacemaker, a purple Dark Eco-powered BFG with homing balls of lightning that hit multiple enemies at once. The third game introduces the most menacing foes our heroes face: the Dark Makers, whose technology is clad in black with purple highlights, best exemplified by the Dark Satellite and [[spoiler:the Terraformer]]. Also in the third game is the Peacemaker's upgrades, such as the Mass Inverter, a gravity-defying gun, and the Supernova, a rocket launcher that destroys everything in the area with nukes.
* Franchise/LeagueOfLegends: Purple is the color of dark/chaotic magic and is associated with the Void, a highly alien and incomprehensibly powerful realm.
** Dark magic users -- Syndra, Morgana, [=LeBlanc=], Varus, Veigar, Lulu, and Ryze (the last two more chaotic than dark; Lulu uses Fae magic and Ryze uses Rune magic).

** In VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword, the Master Sword has a purple hilt and is much more powerful than its previous Goddess Sword forms. The color purple also seems to be associated with the goddess Hylia, as it is a feature of various items and artifacts that are linked to her throughout the game; Goddess Cubes, Walls, Shield, Crests and Plumes, as well as , all have the same glossy purple coloration.
** Zelda in VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess mixes this trope with GracefulLadiesLikePurple, as the bodice of her distinctive gown is a rich purple color. This particular incarnation of Zelda is a bit older than some of the others, and is shown to have unusual powers.
* The VideoGame/LegoStarWars series has an unlockable red brick power-up called "Super Lightsabers". Doing this causes the blades to turn purple.
* VideoGame/LikeADragon:
** VideoGame/Yakuza0:
*** Hiroki Awano, who constantly sports a purple suit jacket. spoiler:In the fight against him promptly before he got killed by Lao Gui, he's revealed to have a CharlesAtlasSuperpower when he managed to shatter a wall with just his bare fists, surprising Goro Majima (or caving his fucking head in if he wasn't fast enough). Originally, he had a yellow jacket, but his actor Riki Takeuchi suggested that Awano wears purple to match the bubble era of Japan (it probably helps that Purple in Awano's case means fame and wealth, something he constantly flaunts to everyone).
*** To a lesser extent, the Rush and Breaker Styles display a sort of Pinkish-Purple BattleAura around them, representing speed, and they're considered to be some of the most powerful styles the Series has seen.

** VideoGame/Yakuza3 has Yoshitaka Mine. He wears a gaudy purple suit, representing his extreme wealth, and when it's [[spoiler:time to throw down, one of his fighting auras is purple, which could represent his will and resolve to defeat Kiryu]].

Yuri Eberwein, known as the Sovereign of the Purple Sky , is even stronger, with her mere presence causing the fluctuations in time and space that allowed the CrisisCrossover of Gears of Destiny to happen.
* In VideoGame/maimai, the two hardest chart difficulties, Master and Re:Master, are color-coded as purple.
* In VideoGame/MechAssault, energy weapons turn purple after getting fully upgraded, and the second game introduces Plasma [=PPC=]s, which fire devastating black and purple energy orbs that home onto enemies, along with the Alpha Strike: a devastating ChargedAttack similar to Plasma [=PPC=]s, except they kill almost any Battle Mech in one hit, and the few mechs that survive it will be dying. The Alpha Strike is exclusive to assault mechs, such as the Atlas, Prometheus, Blood Asp, and Star Adder, Battle Mechs that are considered by many to be high-tier, although the mech's weapons have to be fully upgraded to use the Alpha Strike and firing it significantly Overheating overheats the mech for a while. Also in the second game is the SpiderTank boss, which not only fires giant Plasma [=PPC=]s, it also fires a purple WaveMotionGun as one of its strongest attacks.

* VideoGame/MonsterHunter has Purple as the highest accessible level of melee weapon sharpness in the main series. The only games that really subvert this are the PC games, though occasionally there will be the odd main game that only reaches up to White sharpness, the level immediately below Purple. 528* The original VideoGame/ReflecBeat has a user interface with heavy emphasis on purple coupled with gold, making the game look very bold and high-class. Its sequels, which are LighterAndSofter in theme, drop the use of purple in their [=UIs=].

** And the Wizard, who seems to be fairly adept at magic, has purple hair and clothes.
** Also, the most valuable mushroom is the purple mushroom. Eating a purple mushroom of iridium quality gives more energy than any prepared meal, and is in fact one of the most nutritious items in the game.

** There's also Albel from the previous installment of the series, VideoGame/StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime. A proficient and ruthless warrior, and a high-ranked military commander, wearing a purple sarong with matching leggings.
* VideoGame/StarTrekOnline uses it not only for actual items, but also for Bridge Officers (though since the only real thing it decides is which skills they start with, and you can use Bridge Officers to train the ones you already have instead of recruiting them, that doesn't necessarily mean very much in the long run) and Duty Officers (where it means a great deal, since the rarer the Duty Officer allocated, the greater a bonus to success rates and rewards for Doff assignments you get).
* Franchise/StreetFighter:

And Unusuals, the best quality a hat (or weapon, in Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker's case) can get, are marked with purple text.

** The Corpse of King Minos shares the black and purple color scheme with the Circle of Lust, and despite his slow movement, King Minos hits hard and takes tons of hits to be killed (again). That, and he summons equally slow yet deadly purple black holes on the battlefield. Fitting, as purple is the color of royalty, and Minos used to rule the Circle of Lust as a beloved king. [[spoiler:Ironically, his much stronger form, Superboss Minos Prime, lacks a speck of purple on his HeavenlyBlue soul.]]
** One of the older builds of the game had a weapon that fires purple black holes. Said black holes suck up enemies within a small radius and explode, splattering the room with blood for V1 to heal. Hell, it has no cooldown, meaning players can spam black holes to their heart's content. Since this weapon is ridiculously over-powered and takes little skill to use, the weapon was eventually scrapped in the later builds, although its model is used for the shotgun, and the black holes are kept for King Minos to attack V1 with.

Her shoes, shirt, sleeves (striped white and purple) and the accessories she wears in her hair are all purple. The only things she wears that aren't purple are her pants (grey) and possibly her hat (which seems to be a bluish color but it's too dark to be sure). As for the powerful part: man, have you seen the rest of the page? In Season 1 Episode 1, if you listen to Clementine and Katjaa talking long enough, Clementine will mention that purple is her favorite color.
* VideoGame/Warcraft has a few other powerful purples aside from the [=WoW=] loot system:
** A different meaning of 'powerful': for a while, a somewhat higher number of Warcraft guild masters were Warlocks, whose class is represented by the color purple. Why Warlocks? In Vanilla [=WoW=] (i.e. pre-The Burning Crusade) almost every other class had some secondary non-DPS combat role to play in the major raids (Priests, Druids, Shamans, and Paladins had to heal; Warriors had to tank; Hunters had the skills to pull groups of enemies to a group without dying, etc). Warlocks did not, leaving some free to take a more supervisory role.

All of them, save Chewgi's Unify Naginata (which is brown), are purple with yellow edges, and it's implied that the Unify Morphs are stronger than the Unite Morphs.
* In VideoGame/Wynncraft, Rare items are labeled in magenta text to set them apart from Unique items, and Mythic items are labeled in deep purple to set them apart from all other tiers.

Her family name is Belladonna, and her personal symbol is the belladonna plant, which is a purple flower the same colour as her Aura. She always accents her clothing with purple, and Ghira wears a fur-lined purple coat that emulates the kind of item a king might wear.
** Tyrian Callows is one of Salem's inner cohort of villains, initially tasked with hunting for the Spring Maiden but transferred to tracking down and kidnapping Ruby. 617* In Webcomic/ChampionsOfFaraus, Leilusa, a goddess of shadow, has a predominantly purple colour scheme. This also applies to her friend and co-owner/ruler of the Hyperia pantheon, Hyperion, a god of light, although he has much less purple in his colour scheme.
* Among the clans in Webcomic/Drowtales, the Sharen are among the only ones to wear purple, befitting their status as rulers of the Empire. The Empress Diva'ratrika in particular is fond of it, as is her eldest daughter, Snadhya'rune.
* In Webcomic/ElGoonishShive, Tedd, the only notable character with purple hair, turns out to be a well of power and for those who can see it his aura is blinding.

Feferi and her ancestor Her Imperious Condescension are the only two trolls whose blood is tyrian purple and are as high as it gets. As such, the Hero of Rage clothes are purplish, and Eridan (a violet blood) . The kingdom of Derse is entirely clad in purple, and it is destined to always win against the yellow-themed kingdom of Prospit.
* Webcomic/KillSixBillionDemons: Of the seven God Emperors who rule TheMultiverse, Solomon David leans heavily on this aesthetic -- his HolyHalo, robes, throne room wall hangings, eyes, and speech bubbles are all rich purple. Though he's not the strongest of the Demiurges, he is the embodiment of Pride and the one whose image is based on being TheAce.
* Each pantheon of gods in Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick has an aura of a different color. The new god of the goblins has a purple aura, different from any of the others. spoiler:The Snarl being made up of four colors, one from a pantheon which no longer exists, cannot be harmed by the other gods, but the addition of The Dark One's purple aura may lead to the defeat of the Snarl and salvation for the Order's world.
* In Webcomic/StringTheory2009, Abel's PsychicPowers manifest with purple light, and he's elevated his MindOverMatter abilities to "demigod"-level ering.
* The defunct parody comic Sev Trek had Mulder and Scully as Roman agents investigating the resurrection of Jesus. The sinister Cigarette Smoking Man wears purple robes, indicating he's actually the Roman emperor.

* The Minecraft streamer/[=YouTuber=] Purpled is named after the colour purple on the Internet, wears a purple hoodie on his Minecraft skin, and is quite good at PVP, being known for playing the Hypixel minigame Bed Wars. His character counterpart on the WebVideo/DreamSMP is no slouch either, being a highly competent mercenary and warrior, with skills courtesy of the content creator that plays him.

* In the unsuccessful Creator/AdultSwim pilot Captain Sturdy: The Originals, it is shown that Captain Sturdy's enemy Dr. Destructo wore a purple costume during his heyday.
* The eponymous hero of WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck wears a purple outfit. Although it seems to be more of an InvokedTrope, as he only follows this trope about half the time.
* In the Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse to the WesternAnimation/DCUniverseAnimatedOriginalMovies, Lois Lane wears purple very often, along with having violet eyes. Both traits are now regular in the comic books also (depending on the artist). It codifies her as both a BadassNormal and Superman's iconic partner.
* WesternAnimation/TheDragonPrince: Lord Viren eyes gain a purple glow whenever he uses Dark Magic, which typically displays just why he has the position of high mage of Katolis.
* Raven Queen in Toys/EverAfterHigh, hermagic glows in purple, and she happens to be a daughter of an evil queen. Fortunately she isn't like her mother, but her power can get out of control and do some unexpected damages.
* WesternAnimation/FinalSpace: Both Ash (one of the main heroes) and the BigBad Invictus (an EldritchAbomination SatanicArchetype) respectively have a purple theme to their powers which produce a purple glow, and it's revealed in Season 3 that Invictus' true form is black and purple. Cementing this as an evil color is the revelation that .
* Goliath from WesternAnimation/Gargoyles is purple and leader of his clan.
* Black Knight from WesternAnimation/GeneratorRex fits the trope (even when the name would probably throw you off) as she eventually is in charge of Providence and leads the place with more efficiency than White Knight would have dreamed of. This is taken even further [[spoiler:with her E.V.O. form and later with her meta-nanite form]].
* Skeletor of WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983 wore purple clothing and a purple hood over his skull-face, certainly falling on the evil side of the trope.
* WesternAnimation/TheHollow: The Weird Guy is very powerful, and the most mysterious character in the show, and his skin is fully purple.
* WesternAnimation/HotWheelsAcceleracers has the Silencerz, a mysterious group with silver and purple colored cars that are technologically decades ahead of other teams. Among the abilities their cars can perform include: InvisibilityCloak, disguising as the cars of other teams, and EMP devices.
* In WesternAnimation/InvaderZim, the titular "Tak: The Hideous New Girl" is an Irken whose eyes and [=PAK=] are purple. She's also what Zim would be if he was actually competent, and her technology is not only more advanced when compared to her peers' (such as using a hologram cloak to make a convincing human disguise, and a SapientShip with an AI system based on her own personality), all of her tech is self-customized.
* WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures: Parts of Tso Lan the Moon Demon's robes are purple, his gravity powers produce dark-purple energy, and in terms of innate elemental magic he's arguably the most powerful of the eight Demon Sorcerer siblings.
* An episode of WesternAnimation/JemAndTheHolograms has the rival band The Stingers wearing purple. Riot declares himself music royalty.
* In the fourth season of WesternAnimation/KimPossible, after her original mission outfit is destroyed, Kim tries several times to find a replacement before finally getting a permanent new one with a purple top.
* In WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra, Vaatu fires purple laser beams in Season 2. In Season 4, harnessing the vast amounts of energy contained within the spirit vines causes a purple glow.
* WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic:
** The main character Twilight Sparkle is a purple unicorn--a magic user who won the SuperpowerLottery. She isn't limited to a specialized discipline like other unicorns: her discipline is magic itself. She's also been chosen by the ancient superweapons known as the Elements of Harmony to be the Element of Magic. Princess Celestia, resident god-empress of Equestria, says she has never seen as much raw power in one pony in her long, presumably immortal, life. Purple Is Powerful, indeed. As of the end of season three she becomes an alicorn.
** "The Great and Powerful" Trixie wears a purple RobeAndWizardHat as part of her airs of being a great sorceress. She also has purple eyes.
** When Rarity plays a princess in a play, she wears a purple royal gown.
** Shining Armor, Twilight's brother, wears guard armor that is purple in color. He's no slouch in terms of power, either, since he can create and keep up a ForceField huge enough to englobe the capital of Equestria and strong enough to keep out an invading army. [[spoiler:Or, if the army is already in, ATwinkleInTheSky blast it away]].
** Season 5 introduces Starlight Glimmer, a unicorn with a purple mane. She doesn't seem very threatening at first, until we learn spoiler: that she knows a special magic spell that removes cutie marks from ponies, and has used it to take control over a society of ponies under the false guise of harmony and equality, as well as stripping the Mane Six of their powers.
* WesternAnimation/Ninjago:
** The Element of Destruction in the series is presented as one of the two most powerful elements, counterplaced to the Element of Creation. It is also represented by black and purple colors. Many villains in the series employ it as their element. Notably Lord Garmadon, the initial ArcVillain, is always portrayed as a big threat in his tenures as a villain thanks to his mastery over the destruction element. Similarly, the Oni, the titular Arc Villains of the Oni Trilogy, have a color scheme of purple and wield destruction, with their ultimate goal being to destroy all life in the 16 realms and rule over them.
** The Overlord is the most powerful and dangerous of all villains as the embodiment of destruction and ruin, and he is colored black and purple in all his forms, even as the Golden Master.
** The Anacondrai were TheDreaded for both Elemental Masters and Serpentine thanks to their element-immune abilities and strength. When Master Chen, the ArcVillain of Season 5, empowers himself and his warriors with the Anacondrai's essence taken from Pythor they become a threat big enough that the Masters have to summon the spirits of the cursed Anacondrai Generals to banish the otherwise unstoppable army to Hell the Cursed Realm.
* WesternAnimation/OKKOLetsBeHeroes:
** On the Heroes' "side" there's T.K.O, K.O's corrupted angry form which is powerful enough to curb-stomp foes such as Boxman Jr., who was able to take down both Carol and Mr. Gar. When either TKO takes control or he and KO work together, they're able to surpass even that limit.
** The Villains' side has Professor Venomous, a purple-skinned villain with a power level of -7. Unlike Boxman, his silliness does not detract from the threat he can pose to the heroes. But even he is nothing next to Shadowy Figure, another villain with a similar level who proves to be the series' vilest and deadliest villain. [[spoiler:And it doesn't help that Shadowy is his Superpowered Evil(er) Side.]]
* Franchise/StarTrek:
** WesternAnimation/StarTrekTheAnimatedSeries: Klingons wear purple uniforms, likely due to the show's limited animation.
** WesternAnimation/StarTrekLowerDecks: In "Terminal Provocations", the corrupted isolinear core glows purple, and it's powerful enough to incapacitate the Drookmani vessel.
* WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse:
** Garnet, the leader of the gems, with a distinctly magenta color scheme that even shifts more towards purple later in the series. She's also the tallest of the current Crystal Gems, and both extremely strong and a s. The element of red and blue combined is also significant .
** Incidentally, Amethyst of the same team has a violet color scheme, but isn't distinguished as particularly powerful -- implications are even made that she's .
* WesternAnimation/StormHawks:
** ActionGirl Starling has a purple-glowing weapon, making her stand out visually; most weapon colours in the series tend to be blue, red, or yellow.
** BigBad Master Cyclonis, who is royalty and an EvilSorceress, is also associated with purple.
* WesternAnimation/TheTaleOfTheGreatBunny: Abigail is given a wishing egg, which is purple, and has the power to grant wishes (provided they're not selfish ones).
* WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003: Raven, unlike her comic book counterpart, has purple hair. Also, Starfire in this series also wears purple, though it's a skirt, knee-high boots and a halter rather than monokini.
* WesternAnimation/TransformersPrime:
** Dark Energon glows purple, strengthens Megatron, can be used as a poison, and can create NonHumanUndead. It's also the blood of Unicron.
** A certain other Megatron had a purple dinosaur for an altmode, and is widely regarded as one of the best incarnations of the character ever.
** The Deceptibrand is traditionally purple (As is their laser fire) and most members of the faction have at least some purple in the color schemes (Shockwave, Cyclonus, Blitzwing, Lugnut, etc.). Perhaps the biggest exemplifier is G1 Galvatron. Immensely more powerful than he was as Megatron, as demonstrated by his incinerating Starscream with a single blast from cannon mode.
** G1's green-and-purple Devastator was the first combiner in the franchise, and is a towering brute with colossal strength.
* WesternAnimation/XavierRiddleAndTheSecretMuseum: Some of the heroes the trio meets wear purple and are highly important. Some of those heroes are:
** Leonardo da Vinci wears a purple hat and robe.
** The Bronte Sisters, specifically Emily Bronte, wears a purple dress.
** Eleanor Roosevelt is dressed head-to-toe in purple.
** Marie Owens wears a purple tie.
** Harriet Tubman wears a purple bandana, which doubles as her relic.
** Ella Fitzgerald wears a purple dress and shoes.
** Carol Burnett wears a pale purple sweater, pants and shoes.
** Celia Cruz wears a shirt that has frilly sleeves and one of those frills is purple. Same thing with her frilly skirt and wears purple shoes.

%%* Curium. It's a radioactive element which glows purple in low light due to ionized-air glow.
* The coronation robes of the United Kingdom are purple.
* Several ancient universities in the United Kingdom, most notably UsefulNotes/Oxbridge, maintain a complicated system of colours, styles and trappings of gowns, caps and hoods for academic dress, with its own associated hierarchy; the higher the status of the degree you graduate in, the fancier the gown and hood you wear. If you graduate with a Ph.D in Oxford, your gown is purple and red, as opposed to the black with coloured hoods of undergraduates. The hood for the Bachelor of Music degree, which is actually a doctorate-level degree that is usually done after you already have an exceptionally good degree in music, has a purple hood to signify its superior status to other 'Bachelor' degrees.
* In the nineteenth century, the invention of the cheap synthetic purple dye mauveine changed this: suddenly everyone could buy purple clothes, sparking a brief fashion craze. Because of this, purple was used as a colour by some republican and feminist groups, because "what had once been only the province of royalty is now available to all the people, and the same should be true of political power".
* Because of this trope, purple is a color that job seekers sometimes wear in order to appear confident and powerful. On the other hand, this can sometimes come off too strongly.
* In the Middle Ages purple was a colour reserved exclusively to the royalty. It could be seen as treasonous for anyone else to wear anything purple.
* When the Emperor Justinian was considering fleeing from Constantinople at the height of the Nika Riots in January 532, his wife Theodora refused to go with him, saying, "The royal purple is the noblest shroud". Her speech convinced Justinian to stay in Constantinople and use military force to regain control of the city.
* The two highest ranked gyōji (referees) in professional sumo, always named Kimura Shounosuke and Shikimori Inosuke (for the higher- and lower-ranking of the two, respectively; family name spoken first, according to Japanese tradition), wear kimono and use fans adorned with purple rosettes and tassels. Inosuke's rosettes and tassels are purple and white, while Shounosuke's are solid purple.
* Averted in Roman Catholicism; monsignors and bishops wear purple as a sign of their high rank, but the higher-ranked cardinals wear red and UsefulNotes/ThePope dresses in white. Played straight in the Anglican Church however, where all bishops (including the Archbishop of Canterbury, the primate and head of the Anglican Communion) don purple.
* Averted generally by national flags:
** Today, only three sovereign states use purple in their flags. The one that uses it the most is UsefulNotes/Dominica, a tiny Caribbean island nation with a purple parrot in the center of its mostly-green flag. Meanwhile, UsefulNotes/Nicaragua and UsefulNotes/ElSalvador use very small amounts of purple in their flags for related reasons: They both put their national coat of arms in the center of the flag, and both countries use variants of the national arms of the long-dead Federal Republic of Central America. The FRCA's arms included a rainbow with a violet band, which both Nicaragua and El Salvador retain it.
** A few subnational entities use purple in their flags. Probably the most significant is the flag of the Spanish Autonomous Community of Castile and León, which features a purple lion on a white field for León. Another commonly-cited one is the Commonwealth of the UsefulNotes/NorthernMarianaIslands, a U.S. territory which has purple flowers in the wreath surrounding the central device of the flag.
** Historically, the Second Spanish Republic used a tricolor of red, gold, and purple, with the purple band being a common historical unofficial variation of the red, gold, red Spanish tricolor (thanks to the association of purple with León and with old Castile). The association with the Second Republic has made the red-gold-purple a symbol of republicanism in modern Spain.
* The flag of the Eurasianist movement, a sort of neo-Soviet ideology popular in the former USSR that seeks to bring Russian, Central Asian and some Eastern European countries together once again, on the grounds of them belonging to both Europe and Asia. The most popular symbol of that movement is the purple flag with an eight-pointed star, and it is quite obvious that, should Russia follow with their plan, the resulting empire will be indeed quite powerful. This Russian website offers a very interesting explanation behind the meaning of this trope, at least in so far as it applies to them. Red was the traditional colour of UsefulNotes/TheRomanEmpire, while blue, representing the sky, was traditionally used for the flags of the Mongols. Russia, through the Byzantines and the Golden Horde respectively, considers itself a successors of both: the purple colour represents the fact that it is both TheEmpire and TheHorde.
* Purple trim on the graduation robes of graduate-degree recipients indicates a Law or Jurisprudence degree. Judges always hold a lot of authority, and lots of powerful politicians are lawyers.
* The purple martin is the largest North American swallow, formidable enough to dogfight birds of prey in defense of its breeding colonies.
* As electromagnetic waves increase in energy and power, their colour turns more purple.
* The ancient Greeks (and Romans) considered amethyst, a purple semiprecious stone, an amulet against drunkenness (its name means more or less, "won't get drunk").
