* In WesternAnimation/Cars2, after Mater is outfitted with voice-activated technology and his cover is blown at the lemon meeting, his reflexive exclamations are misinterpreted as commands to deploy and shoot his gatling guns and then deploy his parachute.
-->Mater: Dad-gum!\
Computer: Gatling gun. Request acknowledged.\
Mater: Shoot, I didn't mean...\
[the gatling gun shoots]\
Mater: Wait, wait! I didn't mean that kind of shoot!\
Computer: Correction acknowledged. Deploying chute.\
[Mater screams in surprise as the parachute catches the wind and yanks him away]

* Film/AirForceOne: President Marshall wraps a strap connected to the plane around the Big Bad's neck and pulls the cord on his parachute with the force of the chute deployment breaking his neck.
* Film/AvengersInfinityWar: Tony Stark inflicts this on Peter Parker to get him out of danger as the ship he is hanging to the outside of is leaving Earth's atmosphere. Peter is less than thrilled, and he's able to sneak onboard anyway.
* Film/JamesBond:
** In Film/Octopussy, Bond is captured and sitting in the back of a truck being guarded by two paratroopers wearing their chutes. As the truck is driving, Bond's accomplice drives alongside the truck and proceeds to ShowSomeLeg. While his guards are DistractedByTheSexy, Bond reaches out and yanks the ripcords on their chutes. The chutes deploy and the paratroopers go flying off the back of the truck.
** In Film/DieAnotherDay, Bond kills Gustav Graves by pulling the cord on his chute, which yanks him out of the damaged plane and into the engine.
* In Film/KingsmanTheSecretService, while the recruits are performing a parachute drop during training, Merlin implies that one of the six applicants' parachute is missing. The "upper-crust" recruits all pull and deploy theirs, and Eggsy, who came from the London streets, is able to double-up with his friend Roxy. When he confronts Merlin when they get to the ground, Merlin pulls Eggsy ripcord and deploys Eggsy's chute, pulling him backwards onto the ground. Remember, Merlin only implied.
* In Film/1979, Henry and his kids are driving along a rural road when the parachute (one of the items in the ScavengerHunt) in the back of the station wagon deploys through the open rear window. This causes the car to slue out of control and winds up stranding them with a flat tyre.
* Film/ShootEmUp have this happening in the skydiving shootout scene when Smith pulls the parachute cord of a skydiving mook, resulting in the chute netting another mook nearby causing the latter to fall to his death.
* In Film/Skyscraper, one of the BigBad's goons gets taken out at the climax when Will Sawyer opens his parachute and he's dragged out of The Pearl through one of the holes the villains' indiscriminate use of grenades have opened up on the VR gallery penthouse.
* Film/SpiderManHomecoming: When Spidey is dropped from high in the sky by the Vulture, his suit automatically triggers its emergency parachute. Unfortunately for him, he's facing upward with his back pointing towards the ground, meaning the parachute pops out from underneath him. Unable to catch air, it immediately envelops him, causing him to nearly drown when he crashes in a lake but can't swim up to the surface through the chute. Also, he forgets to have it reinstalled, resulting in a later mission involving heights putting him in danger of a fatal fall.
* Film/1994: In the final confrontation, after parachuting into a wind farm, Ditch kills the BigBad by pulling his backup chute, sucking him into a turbine.
* Film/TransformersRevengeOfTheFallen:
** Jetfire accidentally deploys his vehicle mode's parachute, causing him to fall on his back. This is played as the robot equivalent of flatulence.
** Galloway misinterprets protocols on how to deploy his parachute as actually instructing him to do so. He pulls the cord too early and gets sucked out of the plane as his parachute opens up.
* In , when the NSA is field-testing their new recruits, they buzz a Colombian dirt runway with a cargo plane, and use a parachute to drag them out the back without landing.

* In his novel A Good Clean Fight, Creator/DerekRobinson has an RAF pilot realizing he must abandon his plane and bail out over the North African desert. The pilot quickly goes through all the drills to unfasten himself from his seat, which involves striking various quick-release buckles securing him in place. As he rolls out of the cockpit and into space, tugging for the ripcord, he realizes... he has also hit the quick-release buckle that was holding his parachute in place. The ripcord still pulls, but the parachute is no longer securely attached to him. As the weight of his body in freefall pulls him out of the harness, the last thing he sees is the parachute opening all by itself and getting further away.

* Series/HeyYouWhatIf: In "You Could Run At The Speed Of Sound?", Zigi--having suffered all of the indignities that running at the speed sound involves--still loses the race because he deploys his parachute to slow himself down and it snags on a post, stopping him dead in his tracks.

* VideoGame/KerbalSpaceProgram: An unfortunately frequent occurrence when parachutes aren't properly staged or the player has triggered them at inappropriate times. For example, deploying main chute before deploying a drogue chute might cause the main chute to wrench off due to it being unable to handle the greater air forces at higher velocity. Less frequent in later versions, as the default behaviour is now for parachutes to wait to deploy until they can safely do so without being destroyed.
* In the final act of the original VideoGame/ModernWarfare, when the joint UK/US task force parachutes onto the Russian missile silo, the US Marine Griggs deploys his parachute too early, getting blown off course by the wind and captured by the silo defenders. The first objective is thus to rescue him.

* WebAnimation/RWBY: In Volume 3, Ruby opens Neo's parasol while they are on top of an airship, causing Neo to fly away and leave just Ruby and Torchwick.

* In WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball episode "The Question", as the ghost of a skydiver tries to chase after Gumball and Darwin, his parachute suddenly deploys to hold him in place.
-->Ghost: Oh NOW you're working.
* WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries: In "Harlequinade", Batman and Harley Quinn are working together to stop the Joker from nuking the city. Harley decides she wants to listen to the radio and pushes a button that activates the Batmobile's parachute, causing a near-crash as Batman struggles to get the vehicle under control.
-->Batman: Listen, and listen good. You don't touch anything, say anything, or do anything unless I tell you! Got it?\
Harley: [small voice] Yes, sir.

* In RealLife, if a parachute deploys inside the jump plane, it is an extremely dangerous situation. The usual procedure is to collect the canopy inside the plane, close the jump door immediately and terminate all jump operations and make an emergency landing. If the parachute can't be smothered in time, the unfortunate paratrooper must beat the parachute out the door or they will be in for a world of pain.
* FreakierThanFiction for Lt. Keith Gallagher, USN, whose parachute deployed while his plane touched down on the runway, though at least everyone survived. Lt. Gallagher even finished out his service after returning to flight status.
