->''"You are a wolf in rabbit's clothing taking advantage of a poor innocent little rabbit!"''
-->-- '''Sharon''', ''Manga/PandoraHearts''

Take two characters: one sweet, innocent, kind, loving, naive, maybe even virginal, etc. In other words: [[TheIngenue an angel]]. The second character is malicious, rude, possibly perverted, ominously charming, sadistic, etc. In other words: [[TheVamp a devil]]. Then you pair them up with each other. The main aspect here lies in the fact that the Devil character can do all sorts of things to torment the Angel character, or vice versa, and in the end the two characters will fall in love despite everything or perhaps because of everything (or not if the pairing is one-sided).

Generally, a combination of MindGameShip and OppositesAttract, with a dash of DracoInLeatherPants, depending on whether the 'ship is canon or not. In SlashFic or some yaoi, the {{Uke}} is often the angel while the {{Seme}} is the devil.

We all know the appeal of MindGameShip, playing another person's mind like it's a game and what not, and this trope can go hand in hand with that one. It may overlap with FoeRomanceSubtext, FoeYayShipping, or DatingCatwoman if the two characters are actual enemies in canon. Compare BeastAndBeauty. Sometimes a IHaveYouNowMyPretty scenario may occur from the devil to the angel. A FetishizedAbuser, DepravedBisexual, DepravedHomosexual, PsychoLesbian, or a {{Yandere}} may be the devil, and TheIngenue, AllLovingHero, PluckyGirl, or NiceGuy may be the angel. MoreInterestingAsAVillain can happen as a way to get the angel and devil together.

Sometimes for this trope in fanfic [[{{Ukefication}} a previously tough character may be made into a more sensitive innocent character]] and vice versa. Sometimes the devil character may try to force another rebellious character to submit. More often than not [[FemaleAngelMaleDemon the devil is male and the angel is female]], though the gender-flipped variant is not unheard of.

Has nothing to do directly with ''Series/{{Angel}}'', though interestingly he could be on either side of the pairing.

See also EvilDesiresInnocence, AllGirlsWantBadBoys (though in that trope, the girl is not necessarily innocent).

!!{{Fanon}} Examples:

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Orihime/Ulquiorra, especially when symbolism is taken into account (Ulquiorra's released form looks like a fallen angel [[spoiler:and his second one is a devil]]).
** [=GrimmHime=] is the second most popular Orihime ship behind [=UlquiHime=], with Grimmjow as the Devil and Orihime as the Angel. (It helps that Orihime is the only person Grimmjow ever did a favor for, even if it was for selfish reasons.)
** [[TheCutie Momo]] being paired with [[TheDragon Gin]] or [[BigBad Aizen]] exists, too.
** In fanfics where Ichigo is made to be a sensitive {{Uke}} he can be involved in this if he is shipped with Grimmjow, Gin, Hollow Ichigo, or Aizen.
** When paired with anyone Nnoitra (devil) gets this. Orihime and Nel are frequently paired with him possibly due to [[NoYay several suggestive scenes]] they have with him in canon.
* Light/Anyone in ''Manga/DeathNote'', but especially Misa or L, though L has usually been Uke-fied in such instances because it isn't really canon for him to just sit back and let Light screw with him, he can do plenty of mind screwing himself. The same is true for Beyond Birthday/Anyone probably due to his psychotic obsession with L and how he refers to himself "an aggressive top." Even Light tends to get Uke-fied whenever [[EvilerThanThou Beyond decides to play Kira]].
* ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'':
** ''Digimon'' has both [[GirlOnGirlIsHot Angewomon/LadyDevimon]] and [[GuyOnGuyIsHot Angemon/Devimon]] as literal examples.
** ''Anime/DigimonTamers'' has Beelzemon (FallenAngel) with Sakuyamon ({{Miko}}); the fandom quite enjoyed their OddFriendship and ShipTease moments as Impmon and Renamon before the former's FaceHeelTurn. [[spoiler:And then he did a HeelFaceTurn right back, but the symbolism is quite strong.]] It's notable that they have so much art together in their Mega forms, since in the actual canon they never really shared a proper scene together.
* ''Manga/DNAngel'': There's some Daisuke/Dark interpretations in fanfics and Daisuke/Satoshi shows up in canon and fanfiction as well.
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'': Tohru/Akito, the latter being the 'devil' as Akito is a {{Domestic Abuse}}r and Tohru being the 'angel' as she [[AllLovingHero redeems with love]]. One could make an argument for a Tohru/Shigure ship as Shigure's character is morally ambiguous.
* In ''Franchise/FullmetalAlchemist'' SlashFic Ed is sometimes made to be the angel to either [[FetishizedAbuser Envy or Roy or even Lust]].
* Sousuke in ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'' slash works is sometimes made to be an innocent angel character to Gauron's canon devil character. Also, in the novels, being the sick pervert he is, he shows interest in humiliating and possibly molesting/raping Tessa (to "break" her spirit, since he's annoyed with "righteous" people). He makes it very clear to the other submarine personnel that if they try to do anything, he ''will' do "X-rated" things to the cute captain. When she acts defiant towards him, it "pleased him from the bottom of his heart," and he exclaims, "Ohhh, she's cute!" and proceeds to jokingly ask the Mithril traitors if they're sure they want to leave, since this place seems like a nice place to work.
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'':
** Anyone/[[{{Yandere}} Belarus]] is this too. Ironically, Russia/Belarus falls into this as well, because, despite Russia being evil, his little sister, Belarus, is much worse. It's even more horrific with their genderbent versions, since [[DoubleStandard Male!Belarus has higher chances of getting to rape his sister, Fem!Russia, than their counterparts]]. [[http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/23000000/Fem-RussiaxMale-Belarus-nyotalia-23023813-674-800.jpg A]] [[http://data.whicdn.com/images/17891005/Female-Russia-x-Male-Belarus-hetalia-couples-26183617-1000-1000_large.jpg few]] [[http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lol81cUeAg1qgcx4k.jpg examples]] [[http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/25800000/Nyotalia-Male-Belarus-and-Female-Russia-hetalia-couples-25870168-1050-1120.jpg are]] [[http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/30800000/Male-Belarus-x-Female-Russia-hetalia-couples-30869807-707-1000.jpg here]].
** A good chunk of Taiwan/Japan, which is pretty popular [[CastFullOfGay for a het pairing]], is set during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, and so tends to fall into this category.
** Seeing as how [[LovableSexManiac France]] regularly hits on and gropes the other nations [[DepravedBisexual male or female]] any pairing involving him can sometimes turn out to be this.
* ''Manga/MarchComesInLikeALion'': Rei/Kyoko, with Rei being the Angel and Kyoko as the Devil. While there are fans of the work that don't want this to happen ''precisely'' because of this dynamic they share, there are also fans that are excited by the prospect of it once the romantic undertones of their relationship become more overt.
* Downplayed example: Katsuki Bakugo from ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' is not straight up ''evil'', but he starts the show as a rather vicious and ruthless bully and a major BloodKnight while later transitioning into a more traditional (but still quite cold) AntiHero. Naturally, this has prompted fans to ship him with his childhood friend and bullying victim [[TheHero Izuku Midoriya]], typically due to the complexity of their relationship and Izuku’s admiration of him. He also tends to get shipped with [[NiceGirl Ochaco Uraraka]], probably because of his rare respect for her skills.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Naruto/Itachi, Naruto/Kabuto, Naruto/Orochimaru, Naruto/Sasuke, generally Naruto/any villain considering his sweet naive AllLovingHero NiceGuy nature. Also, Naruto/Sai at times.
** Since ''Shippuden'' and [[RivalTurnedEvil Sasuke's]] FaceHeelTurn, fanfic of him and Sakura of this nature exists as well.
** Naruto/Karin, even though they didn't officially meet until [[spoiler: her HeelFaceTurn]]. That, and [[spoiler:they're cousins, though no one knows exactly how close, since Karin is a member of Naruto's mother's clan]].
** [[KissingCousins Hinata/Neji]], as Neji is often seen as a dark, cynical guy who abuses and forces himself on Hinata, a lot of fans ignoring his HeelFaceTurn.
** Sasuke/Itachi, too. Both [[IncestYayShipping Hinata/Neji and Sasuke/Itachi]] are seen as this, ''especially'' by people who don't ship them, as Neji and Itachi are still seen as quite dark characters, despite that they both proved that Hinata and Sasuke, respectively, were the persons they cared about the most when they [[spoiler:sacrificed themselves for them]].
* Giovanni and Delia Ketchum from ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries''. Giovanni being a yakuza/mafia crime boss while Delia is an all-around nice woman and mother of the protagonist. Giovanni is actually the [[LukeIAmYourFather most common guess]] for who Ash's father is.
* [[http://i.imgur.com/GEdnWLm.jpg The]] [[http://i.imgur.com/ZRiXz3Y.jpg advertising]] for ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagicaTheMovieRebellion'' adds a sexual element to [[spoiler:Madoka and Homura]]'s relationship that isn't [[TrailersAlwaysLie present in canon]]. They also portray the characters in their deity forms--[[spoiler:Madoka as the benevolent, white-clad Goddess of Hope and Homura]] as the ObviouslyEvil demon she becomes [[TrailersAlwaysSpoil at the end of the movie]]--even though they never appear onscreen together like this; in fact, the "devil" wants to ''prevent'' the "angel" from taking on this form.
* ''Manga/Reborn2004'': Basically just Tsuna or Chrome/any villain considering their sweet naive Messiah nature. Also some Tsuna/Reborn fanfics portray them as this. It helps that most of Tsuna's former enemies become very affectionate towards him following becoming his allies and Chrome gets put in IHaveYouNowMyPretty moments a lot.
* ''Manga/SeraphOfTheEnd'': Ferid likes to play mind games and exert his power over the other characters, namely Krul, Crowley, Yuu, and Mika in canon as well as fanon. He gets this with Yuu especially even though Yuu is technically becoming a demon as he's a good NiceGuy and Ferid is a dangerous foppish vampire who killed his family. In canon, Yuu is called an angel by Ferid and he is technically considered an angel with his SuperPoweredEvilSide. Crowley notes in the novels that Ferid has the kind of beauty that corrupts people and tells the group in the manga that he feels bad for them (because Ferid wants to be their friend) as he's exhausting with all his antics and mind games.
* ''Anime/{{Tamagotchi}}'' has Pianitchi/Smartotchi. The latter character is the ArcVillain of the ''Miracle Friends'' arc, taking on the guise of X-Kamen whenever he wants to go find the Dreambakutchis that Miraitchi and Clulutchi need to [[TrappedInThePast return to the future]]. Canonically, Pianitchi has a normal friendship with Smartotchi, but the two bond through a shared love of playing piano music.
* A very popular ship in ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV'' is Zarc and Ray due to three of their four reincarnations being good friends despite them having no relationship themselves. Zarc is described in-universe with terms like demon and devil and desired to destroy all reality. Ray is his opposite and protects the world instead, usually being shown in golden light, and was ultimately the person that saved reality twice, thus acting as the angel or god to his demon or devil.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ComicBook/TheJoker is AxCrazy and unpredictable to the extreme and as such it's difficult to pin down his motivation, past, and the like in canon. What is more clear cut is his demented love and obsession with Franchise/{{Batman}}. It seems his greatest desire is to break Batsy's ideals down and make him just like him. Batman isn't the type to let Joker victimize him but in certain fan works Batman is made vulnerable and at the Jokers mercy.
* Since the release of the ''ComicBook/StarWarsDarthMaul'' comic, in which Sith apprentice Darth Maul hunts down, fights and kills a female Jedi Padawan by the name of Eldra Kaitis, there's been an increase of [[https://www.wattpad.com/511045060-the-captain%27s-logbook-volume-four-12-22-17 various]] [[https://www.tumblr.com/search/maul%20x%20eldra fanart]] and [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/24594604/chapters/59407894 fanfiction]] of the two of them together as a romantic couple. Helps that Eldra Kaitis is a Twi'lek.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* Creator/{{Disney}} gets these often, as many fans enjoy shipping the [[Franchise/DisneyPrincess Disney Princess]] with their villans:
** ''WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty'': Aurora/Maleficent was popular even before [[Film/{{Maleficent}} the live action retool]] softened it up. Aurora is ''the'' PrincessClassic of Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon while Maleficent is a literal dark fairy who is out to get her ForTheEvulz.
** ''WesternAnimation/{{The Little Mermaid|1989}}'': Ariel/Ursula has its share of fans, no doubt partly to do with Ursula's [[EvilIsCool popularity]] and [[BigBeautifulWoman sex appeal]]. The infamous criticism of Ariel and Eric's relationship[[note]]that being Ariel was willing to risk her very soul on forming a relationship with a man she just met[[/note]] also helps. In case you forgot, Ariel is the adventurous and kind-hearted (if a bit foolish and naïve) princess of the sea, while Ursula is the sea witch who rigged their deal to get King Triton to surrender his soul and his ruler-ship of the sea to her.
*** That being said, Ariel/Ursula is only popular in the original film's fandom, as in the stage musical Ursula is both [[NoYay her aunt and the murderer of Ariel's mother]].
** ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast'': Belle, while considered odd by others, is an [[CuteBookworm intelligent and beautiful]] NiceGirl. Gaston, on the other hand, [[DeconstructedCharacterArchetype flips everything about the typical Disney hero on its head]] by [[EntitledToHaveYou lusting after Belle, despite her lack of intrest]], and [[HeManWomanHater his contempt for her desire to read and think for herself]], and then [[NotGoodWithRejection has her dad sent to the nuthouse]], and [[MurderTheHypotenuse tries to murder the man she actually loves]]. And yet, some actually do ship Belle/Gaston, due to fans [[MemeticBadass ironically]] (and [[RootingForTheEmpire unironically]]) [[EvilIsCool buying in how awesome Gaston claims to be]]. Not to mention how [[{{Hunk}} attractive Gaston is considered to be]], and (no matter how unwarranted) Belle/Adam gets accused of romanticizing UsefulNotes/StockholmSyndrome, which leads to [[DracoInLeatherPants people painting Gaston in a better light]].
** ''WesternAnimation/{{The Hunchback of Notre Dame|Disney}}'': One of the more disturbing examples is Esmeralda/Frollo. Esmeralda is such an AllLovingHeroine that her big song is about asking God to help others, not herself. Frollo on the other is considered one of the most [[CompleteMonster purely evil Disney villains for his murder of Quasimodo's mother, his emotional abuse of Quasi, his attempts to burn innocent people alive, and his threats to the same to Esmeralda if she doesn't basically become his sex slave]]. And yet, despite Esmeralda literally choosing to be burned at the stake instead of submitting to him, Frollo has a surprisingly large number of fangirls who find him incredibly sexy (being voiced by Creator/TonyJay probably helps) and find themselves agreeing with his opinion of Esmeralda's [[MsFanservice curvaceous figure]] and want him to end up in a legit relationship with her.
** ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'': Shipping Elsa and [[spoiler:Hans]] comes down to this, usually with [[spoiler:Hans]] being given a redemption arc in fanworks. Elsa is a kind, if troubled, queen, while [[spoiler:Hans]] is the secret villain of the film who [[spoiler:always planned to murder her. When that failed, he went after her naive sister Anna with goals of marrying her, then killing Elsa in an "accident"]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Creator/PeterJackson's [[Film/TheHobbit film series]] based on ''Literature/TheHobbit'' has spawned the disturbingly popular ship "[[PortmanteauCoupleName Smaugbo]]" (Bilbo x Smaug). It helps that [[Creator/MartinFreeman their]] [[Creator/BenedictCumberbatch actors]] play the two male leads on ''Series/{{Sherlock}}'', who are commonly shipped together.
* Angel and Nightcrawler from ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' sure ''look'' the part (their personalities being the opposite of their appearances; the demonic-looking Nightcrawler is heroic while Angel is evil) and they have something of a following.
* Though whether Kylo Ren and Rey are canonically love interests or not is mostly left ambiguous, they're one of the most popular pairings in the ''Franchise/StarWars'' fandom to date, partly for this reason.
* Much of the ''Film/KnivesOut'' fandom ships [[AllLovingHero Marta]] with [[{{Jerkass}} Ransom]], in spite of the fact that [[spoiler:he looks down on her for being working class and an immigrant, tries to frame her for murder, and then tries to ''kill'' her.]]
* A lot of fans of ''Film/TheCraft'' ship good-hearted witch Sarah with the increasingly power-obsessed and AxCrazy witch Nancy, even after Nancy's BigBadSlippage; it overlaps with MindGameShip as well considering Nancy's manipulation of Sarah. It helps that they have a fair amount of perceived LesYay, especially from Nancy's end.
* ''Film/TheDevilWearsPrada'': Easily the biggest ship in the fandom is the sweet and kind Andy with her abusive and often rude boss Miranda (who is the titular Devil). This is mainly because of the chemistry between the two and the fact that many fans don't like Andy's canon relationship with Nate, as well as the fact that Miranda is a frequent target of the DracoInLeatherPants treatment and, even without that, being a major LoveToHate character.
* ''Film/Scream2022'': Much of the fandom walked away from this film shipping the sweet and innocent Tara with one of the serial killing Ghostfaces, [[spoiler: Amber, mainly due to their chemistry and the fact that one of the earlier drafts had them as girlfriends.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Scarlet (an angel) and Frank (The Anti-Christ) have a lot of romantic chemistry in the ''Literature/DemonSquad'' books. It helps the latter is an AntiAntiChrist.
* ''Literature/GoodOmens'' has Aziraphale and Crowley, a pair of literally an angel and a demon and the most popular ship in the fandom by a country mile. Although, admittedly at the time of the book, both of them have spent too much time with each other and with humans to be quite so purely good or evil.
* ''Literature/LittleRedRidingHood'' and TheBigBadWolf, quite often. Several modern retellings of it even [[PromotedToLoveInterest make it canon]], usually by turning the Big Bad Wolf into a werewolf who can take on human form.
* [[FoeYayShipping Ralph and Jack]] from ''Literature/LordOfTheFlies'', which is obvious in both their looks and personalities, Ralph representing the calm, rational, civil part of the human mind (also, [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold blonde-haired]]), while Jack represents the basic, primal instincts, the savage part of the human mind ([[EvilRedhead red-haired]]).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* ''Series/{{House}}'' is like this to everyone, though Wilson isn't really content to sit back and let House mind screw him and does plenty of mind screwing himself. In SlashFic though Wilson (angel) and House (devil) play it straight, probably helped by all the [[HoYay/{{House}} Ho Yay]] they have together in canon.
* ''Series/PsychopathDiary'': Dong-sik/In-woo. Dong-sik's a NiceGuy even when he thinks he's a serial killer while In-woo's a psychopath who enjoys murdering people and is obsessed with Dong-sik.
* ''Series/TheLordOfTheRingsTheRingsOfPower'': The once [[CrackShip incredibly rare ship]] of Galadriel, Lady of Light who serves as the greatest force for good in Middle-earth and Sauron, the Dark Lord seeking to conquer the Free Peoples got an enormous boost in popularity with the show's Season 1 finale. [[spoiler: The revelation that Halbrand has been Sauron all along added a dark twist to the many [[HeldGaze Held Gazes]] between the two. Many also read romantic intentions with Sauron's proposal to Galadriel to be King and Queen together, with the implication the rings of power were meant to be their engagement rings.]]
* ''Series/{{Smallville}}'': There is an unholy amount of [[LauncherOfAThousandShips Chloe]]/Kal[[note]]Clark's SuperpoweredEvilSide[[/note]] shipping fan fiction. Often ends with Kal corrupting [[IncorruptiblePurePureness Chloe]] and them having sex. Chloe has also been paired with [[spoiler:Davis Bloome]] may count. [[spoiler:He is usually a nice guy though. When he is not busy being ''Doomsday''.]]
* ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'':
** [[spoiler:Dean/Castiel]] had a huge following already, but with the Season 9 finale [[spoiler:turning Dean into a demon]], the pairing literally became this. In the show, they [[spoiler:only have a few seconds of screentime together when Castiel pops up at the last minute to restrain Demon Dean so Sam can restore his humanity.]]
** Also provides the very literal version of this with Meg/Castiel fans, whose dynamic very much plays off this trope and proved to be popular enough to become the most popular het ship for Castiel.
** People sometimes ship Castiel and Crowley, which would count as this, since their antagonism is often layered with innuendo. Sure, both of them are rather attached to Dean, but only makes it [[OneTrueThreesome more fun]].
** [[BreakTheCutie Anna Milton]]/[[TokenEvilTeammate Ruby]], which is one of the more popular femslash pairings in the fandom, thanks to their interactions in Anna's two-parter introduction in Season 4 consisting of the normally ruthless demon Ruby going out of her way and willingly enduring an immense amount of suffering all to find and help Anna, and [[spoiler:the [[IAmWho angel-turned-amnesiac human]]]] Anna herself showing quite of a bit of affection and respect for Ruby [[RescueRomance because of it]] - being so nice to her in fact that it visibly unsettles Ruby. Also counts as [[spoiler:yet another literal example of this trope]]. Unfortunately, they're paired off with the Winchester brothers instead, and they never do appear together again after the episode "Heaven and Hell". With TheReveal about [[spoiler:Ruby being a deepcover FakeDefector whose true mission was releasing Lucifer (something Anna opposed and worked against) this would also count as a MindGameShip and FoeYayShipping. Whether she had known what Anna was from the start and been trying to manipulate her for information the way other demons had been, is never addressed]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* In ''TabletopGame/{{Pathfinder}}'' Adventure Path Wrath of the Righteous, the [[SuccubiAndIncubi succubus]] Arueshalae is attempting redemption after seducing and assassinating the high priestess of Desna. Arueshalae entered the drying priestess' mind and ends up meeting Desna, the ChaoticGood goddess of dreams, luck, stars, and travel, herself. Desna received her priestess, touched what was left of Arueshalae's mortal soul, then told Arueshalae 'Even demons can dream.' Being spared - and made to dream - sent the succubus into an existential crisis. Experiencing a genuine romance is part of her redemption path. Wrath of the Righteous as an adventure series tends to get a lot of half-angel holy warrior player characters who seem to have a thing for penitent succubi.
* A ''lot'' of ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' homebrew races are [[OurAngelsAreDifferent aasimar]]/[[OurDemonsAreDifferent tiefling]] hybrids.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Some of the fandom like to pair Cosmos with Chaos from ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy''. They're actually not too far off -- [[spoiler:Cosmos was created as a copy of Chaos's adoptive mother]].
* In the ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'' games, it's surprisingly common to ship the sweet-hearted British time-traveller PluckyComicRelief Axl Low with the [[AxCrazy dangerously psychotic]] DarkActionGirl I-No. [[spoiler:''STRIVE'' actually makes it ''almost'' canon.]]
* ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'':
** [[IncorruptiblePurePureness Ventus]]/[[MadeOfEvil Vanitas]] is one of the most popular pairings in ''Birth by Sleep''. This is despite--or perhaps because of--the fact that [[EnemyWithout Vanitas was born of the darkness extracted from Ven's heart]]. ([[ScrewYourself Ergo...]])
** Sora is the loving sweet messiah hero who wants to help and save everyone. Naturally, he's often paired with Riku (partly when he's a RivalTurnedEvil and many villains.)
** Also [[PsychoElectro Larxene]]/[[NiceGuy Namine]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'':
** There are over 115 works on Platform/ArchiveOfOurOwn that ship [[CombatMedic Mercy]]/[[AxCrazy Reaper]] in some capacity. This was even before the theory that Reaper turned into a [[OurZombiesAreDifferent zombie-wrath]] state because of Mercy was {{Jossed}}.
** The fans pairing of [[SeriesMascot Tracer]] with her ArchEnemy, [[ColdSniper Widow Maker]] is almost as popular. So much so, that when Tracer was officially paired off with her girlfriend Emily, the fandom didn't take it well. Thus, most H-artists treat Emily ''[[FanonDiscontinuity as if she doesn't exist]]'' and continue to ship Tracer with Widow Maker instead.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'': This is part of the appeal of most Protagonist/Villain ships, especially Dawn/Cyrus or either Red/Giovanni and Leaf/Giovanni. The heroic, innocent protagonist with the dark and criminal antagonist really gets to some fans.
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** Link/Ganondorf, Zelda/Ganondorf, and [[OneTrueThreesome Link/Ganondorf/Zelda]] are popular in various incarnations. Ganondorf is bound by reincarnation to always be out to get them, while Zelda [[spoiler:is literally the reincarnation of a goddess]].
** Link and Dark Link. Link is a noble hero on the side of the goddesses while Dark Link is an embodiment of evil that literally is just there to take him down. He doesn't even have any sentience in canon. [[ScrewYourself This is also a selfcest ship.]]
** Many fans see this in Link/Ghirahim too. Helped by Ghirahim's tormenting him two of the three times they met before he got serious and exhibiting lack of personal space.
* ''Franchise/LifeIsStrange'':
** This is sometimes at play in Victoria Chase/Kate Marsh (aka Chasemarsh) pairings. Even if the story has Victoria undergo a HeelFaceTurn, the contrast between the AlphaBitch Victoria and the ShrinkingViolet Kate is often described as this even in-story. It doesn't hurt that Kate's [[IncorruptiblePurePureness kind and forgiving nature]] and [[ChurchLady religious background]] often lead to her personality being described as angelic or saintly.
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'':
** Maria was Shadow's MoralityPet and his OnlyFriend in the past. Shadow would be a villain instead of an anti-hero if not for Maria's kind personality and dying wish to him.
** Shadow/Amy comes down to this. Amy reminds Shadow of Maria, which is a major factor in his [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn by remembering her actual promise to him]]. Amy is loving and energetic while Shadow is cold and dark.
** Sonic's nice StockShonenHero blends with Shadow's stoic StockShonenRival to make the two a popular ship.
** The popularity of Shadow and Tikal together comes down to their clashing personalities. Shadow is a dark, brooding character while Tikal is a caring martyr who died centuries (if not, millennia) ago.
** Rookie/Infinite from ''VideoGame/SonicForces'' is popular despite Rookie being a wide-eyed KidHero while Infinite is a mind-screwy murderer who loathes the protagonist.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'': Bowser and Peach, with Bowser being the villain of the series while Peach is the near-always sweet and innocent woman he ''constantly'' kidnaps. It became especially popular after ''VideoGame/PaperMario64'', where it was first known that Bowser has an unrequited VillainousCrush for her.
* ''VideoGame/BendyAndTheInkMachine'', in a much more literal version of this trope, Bendy (A cartoony devil) and Alice Angel (Take a guess) are [[FanPreferredCouple easily the most popular couple in the fandom.]]
* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'': Since ''Battle for Azeroth'', people began shipping High King Anduin Wrynn (an AllLovingHero blessed by the Holy Light) with the new Warchief and Banshee Queen Sylvanas Windrunner (a ruthless undead leader).
* In ''VideoGame/PlanescapeTorment'', Deionarra and [[spoiler:the Practical Incarnation, a former self of the player.]]
* Throw a rock into ''VideoGame/AmongUs'' fan works and see if you don't hit Impostor x Crewmate.
* ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'':
** Bayonetta/Pit and Bayonetta/Palutena are both popular pairings, especially thanks to Bayonetta's reveal trailer for [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU the fourth game]]. On one side, you have a fairly innocent ''literal'' angel or the kindhearted Goddess of Light he works for; on the other, you have a seductive, DarkIsNotEvil witch who summons demons on a regular basis.
** There are a few people out there who ship Galeem and Dharkon from ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate Ultimate]]''; they're literally referred to as the embodiments of light and darkness, respectively, in-game. The fact that they're also [[EldritchAbomination eldritch monsters]] with a burning hatred for each other doesn't seem to deter these shippers.
* ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'':
** Arle x Schezo and Arle x Dark Prince are big ones, especially in Japan, since Schezo and the Dark Prince are known to start {{Cock Fight}}s over Arle. They're less popular in the West due to the [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld significant age gaps involved]], on top of, y'know, being enemies.
** Some fans ship Ringo with Ecolo, despite the latter being a villain and the former not reciprocating his feelings.
* In ''TabletopGame/{{Pathfinder}}'' Wrath of the Righteous, the story from the pen and paper game is expanded (see Table Top Games, above). Arueshalae is a romance option and the player gets a very good look at what an absolute monster she was once upon a time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends'': Flaky and Flippy, especially when fan flanderization comes into play. Flippy ''is'' normally a nice fellow, but he is more well-known for his extremely violent SplitPersonality that [[TraumaButton gets triggered]] ''very'' easily. Flaky in contrast is a cute ShrinkingViolet and his closest friend.
* WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}: Ruby is a sweet energetic goth girl who puts herself in harms way often to help/save people. Villains who are considered the devils and are frequently paired in this manner with Ruby are Mercury, Cinder, Emerald, Salem, Tyrian, Neo, and Roman, who at the very least have a personal vendetta against her and want to break her spirit and end her, or just want her out of the way.
** Jaune is a sweet nice guy who is more suited to healing his friends than fighting. Naturally, he also gets this with the villains.
* ''WebAnimation/{{Eddsworld}}'': Cute dorky NiceGuy Edd is frequently paired with TriggerHappy [[ChummyCommies chummy communist]] Tord. Not hurt at all by the fact that Edd is depicted in-universe as Tord's MoralityPet.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* ''Website/{{Neopets}}'': Illusen, a good and kind Earth Faerie, is shipped with her nemesis Jhudora, an evil Dark Faerie.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'': The plucky, morally-sound HeroProtagonist Finn gets shipped with the trickster vampire Marceline, though later episodes make it clear that Marceline isn't really evil, only {{dark|IsNotEvil}}.
%% * ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'':
%% ** The Aang/Azula pairing.
%% ** And to a lesser degree, Zuko and Katara.
%% ** Azula/Ty Lee counts despite Ty Lee being her lackey. Ty Lee isn't malicious while Azula is deeply troubled.
* ''WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy'':
** Edd (Angel) and Marie (Devil). Double D is a dorky NiceGuy and ShrinkingViolet with not a single malicious bone in his body along with being ambitious in school. His Kanker counterpart Marie however, [[InformedAttribute loves]] [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys bad boys]], [[AbhorrentAdmirer comes on to him]] [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale against his will]], is a slacker in school and at the same time being TheBully along with her sisters to everyone on the cast. Oh, and she also has a [[StalkerWithACrush crush]] on him. [[OppositesAttract For some reason.]] Any of the Eds with the Kankers could apply (the Eds being angels and the Kankers devils), but Edd and Marie stands out the most since Edd has higher morals and timidity than the other Eds.
** Also Edd/[[spoiler:Eddy's Brother]].
* [[MindGameShip Flaky and Flippy]] from ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends''. Even more so with their anime versions, where Flaky is portrayed as a sweet, naive, fearful, kind girl, while Flippy is an evil, obsessive, sadistic murderer ([[MurderersAreRapists sometimes rapist]]).
%% * ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'' SlashFic has Zim and Dib switching around the angel and devil roles. There's one fanfic (Sleeper Agent) where Zim is forcibly made the angel to Keef in several disturbing scenes.
* ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'' has the popular [[HoYay/WesternAnimation Les Yay]] pairing of Kim/Shego, with Kim as the daring hero and Shego as the assistant to Kim's MadScientist archenemy.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' gives us Korra/Amon. Amon is a creepy mind rapist who's able to reduce the normally badass Korra to tears through psychological torture.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** The page image is the somewhat-popular fan-pairing of Discord (MadGod, TricksterGod, RealityWarper, the "chaos" of OrderVersusChaos) and Celestia (TheHighQueen, PhysicalGod, LightIsGood, the "order" of OrderVersusChaos)
** When not paired with Celestia, Discord will often be paired with Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy,[[note]]with whom he's actually paired more often than Celestia, no doubt helped by the OddFriendship and later ShipTease they share in canon[[/note]] or Twilight Sparkle, which would fulfill this trope just as well. Pinkie is an over-energetic party pony who lives to spread happiness and laughter, Fluttershy is bashful, gentle, and kind, and Twilight takes after her mentor Celestia and likes to keep things orderly, especially with her schedules and checklists.
** Fluttershy/Discord with Discord essentially being a trickster god while Fluttershy is a shy FriendToAllLivingThings.
** Twilight Sparkle/King Sombra and Fluttershy/King Sombra, with the mares being heroes while the latter is a villain [[spoiler:who is one of the few to be outright killed]].
* ''WesternAnimation/PJMasks'' has the hero Gekko and the villain Luna Girl.
* ''Franchise/ThePowerpuffGirls'':
** Him and Bubbles. Him is a FlamingDevil who enjoys psychological torture and may or may not be Satan himself and Bubbles is a cheerful and naive girl who can communicate with animals. Bubbles is often the victim of Him's mind games and they are of course ArchEnemies.
** There are also the ships between the Powerpuff Girls (angels) and Rowdyruff Boys (devils):
*** Aside from what is stated above, Bubbles is also frequently shipped with her counterpart, Boomer, though he is less malicious than his two brothers. However, he is by no means innocent, as he is still [[TheBully a bully]] just like them, [[BewareTheSillyOnes despite being overall the dumbest of them]].
*** Blossom is frequently shipped with her counterpart, Brick, and this brings the best example of all the Powerpuff/Rowdyruff pairings, as she has a very polite and considerate attitude to others, while he has a greatly reckless and uncaring one.
*** Buttercup is frequently shipped with her counterpart, Butch. Though, this is downplayed, as she has more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold personality. But Butch is just a straight up wicked BloodKnight.
* ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'':
** The biggest ship for OneShotCharacter Damien, the wicked but lonely {{Antichrist}}, is with Pip, the kind English boy who briefly became Damien's only friend during his episode...before Damien blew Pip into fireworks in order to become more popular.
** Butters is the show's embodiment of childhood innocence, so it makes sense that many people pair him with Cartman, the EnfantTerrible who often pulls Butters into dangerous or humiliating situations. It helps that Butters seems to have some affection for Cartman and is often far too trusting towards him.
* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' has attracted its fair share of examples, usually pairing "angels" like [[AllLovingHeroine Dawn]], [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold Bridgette]], [[GentleGiant DJ]], [[OfficerAndAGentleman Brick]], or [[KindheartedSimpleton Lindsay]] with "devils" like [[TeamKiller Scott]], [[ManipulativeBastard Alejandro]], [[AlphaBitch Heather]], [[JerkJock Jo]], or [[TheBully Duncan]].
* ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'' has basically any iteration of [[AllLovingHero Optimus Prime]]/[[BigBad Megatron]].
* ''WesternAnimation/WinxClub'': Bloom gets shipped with one of the villains, either one of the Trix (Icy mostly), or Valtor.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Unikitty}}'': There's an awful lot of shipping fan-art between Unikitty and Master Frown. On the show, Unikitty has kissed and shown affection for Frown multiple times in spite of how often Frown abuses and bullies her. Doesn't exactly mean they're in a relationship, it just means Unikitty can be overly amiable.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Jem}}'': Jerrica/Pizzazz, with Jem being the ever-innocent and friendly one while Pizzazz is her egotistical and antagonistic foil. Jerrica, however, does have darker and snarkier elements that pop up while Pizzazz herself has [[WhenYouComingHomeDad a lot]] [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex of issues]] herself behind her bombastic personality.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Real Life]]
* A lot of people have been fascinated by applying this trope to UsefulNotes/JoanOfArc and her comrade Gilles de Rais, who after the war became one of history's most infamous pedophile {{Serial Killer}}s and an inspiration for the character of Bluebeard. Not helped by the fact some reports ''do'' mention that the two of them got along well (though no solid proof of a romance exists) and it's likely that Gilles de Rais went mad long after the war.
[[/folder]]

!!{{Canon}} Examples:

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* [[JerkAss Aoshima]] makes unwanted advances on the innocent Bellydandy and Skuld (when she aged up) in ''Manga/AhMyGoddess''. Both times, he got shocked for his attempts.
** The existence of Urd flat out states that God and the Devil (specifically the Almighty One Tyr and Daimakaichou Hild) not only had a relationship but one that produced children.
* Consummate NiceGirl [[MartyrWithoutACause Christa]] and blunt, cynical ([[WordOfGay and canonically in love with Christa]]) [[WildCard Ymir]] from ''Manga/AttackOnTitan''.
* During the Eclipse in ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' Casca is made into the angel for [[spoiler:Griffith as Femto]] as he [[spoiler:renders her helpless and brutally rapes her]].
* ''Manga/BlackButler'': Sebastian is a seductive demon who is the devil to anyone really in both canon and fanfics.
* ''Anime/BubblegumCrisis'' includes a song called "Devil and Angel's Kiss".
* Creator/{{CLAMP}} works:
** [[FoeYayShipping Seishirou/Subaru]] from ''Manga/TokyoBabylon'' and then ''Manga/{{X1999}}'' are ''definitely'' this what with [[{{Seme}} Seishirou]] being [[spoiler:the sociopathic Sakurazukamori]] and [[{{Uke}} Subaru]] being a tender-hearted, gentle young man who is utterly destroyed by Seishirou's dark intent. Often taken to extremes in fanfiction.
** Seishirou and Subaru's alternate-universe versions in ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' feature Seishirou as a [[StalkerWithACrush priest]] and Subaru as a [[OurVampiresAreDifferent vampire]]. The {{UST}} between these two just jumps right off the page.
** CLAMP in general seems to really enjoy this trope, what with pairings like Fuuma/Kamui from ''Manga/{{X1999}}'' or the pairing of Kokuyo/Hisui who literally are a demon and angel from ''Manga/{{Wish}}''. Zagato and Emeraude from ''Manga/MagicKnightRayearth'' appear to be this [[DeconstructedTrope but]]...
* ''Anime/DarlingInTheFranxx'': Hiro and Zero-Two's relationship can be considered as this, as Hiro has a jovial, optimistic, and hopeful personality, whereas Zero Two was a very unruly, passionate, fierce-tempered, self-confident, smug, assertive, and carefree girl who hated to follow the rules.
* ''Franchise/{{Devilman}}'': Akira/Ryo, the famous "gay duo" that inspired many other gay duos in later anime. Ryo is confirmed to be in love with Akira. [[note]]Ryo rarely ever confesses his love to Akira directly, in most adaptions. Showing how adverse to sentimentality he is, he typically tells other people long before Akira finds out.[[/note]] Akira on the other hand is [[LoveTriangle in love with Miki,]] but has shown the occasional moment of odd affection for Ryo that suggests there's something there. And this couple is a bit zig-zagged when it comes to their position: Appearance-wise, Akira is obviously the Devil with him being the Devilman, while Ryo is the Angel for his white and gold color scheme as well as having bright white angel wings. However, personality-wise, [[DarkIsNotEvil Akira]] is the Angel for him becoming a demon to protect humanity, while [[LightIsNotGood Ryo]] is the [[FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon Devil]] for trying to destroy the world.
* ''Manga/DevilsAndRealist'' has Jeanne d'Arc (UsefulNotes/JoanOfArc) and Gilles de Rais (see RealLife above). Jeanne has become a "Pawn of Heaven" and is expected to become an archangel, while Gilles is a nephilim (a human turned into a demon) who is in love with her.
* ''Manga/Eyeshield21'' has the Devil Bats' "Commander from Hell" quarterback Youichi Hiruma and their TeamMom manager Mamori Anezaki.
* ''Manga/FairyTail'': Mavis Vermilion and Zeref used to be a common fanon example. Then chapter 340 revealed that they had known each other before, and ''Fairy Tail Zero'' showed how they first met. [[spoiler:Chapter 450 finally made them canon, though with [[TearJerker tragic]] [[StarCrossedLovers results]]]].
* ''Manga/FutureDiary'': Yukiteru (angel) and Yuno (devil and epic {{Yandere}}). And Yukiteru/Tsubaki also counts as he once gets a ForcefulKiss complete with spit trail from her.
* ''Literature/HighSchoolDxD'' has a variation of this with Issei Hyoudou (a [[OurDemonsAreDifferent reincarnated devil]]) and his PatientChildhoodLoveInterest Irina Shidou (an [[OurAngelsAreDifferent exorcist who is later reincarnated as an angel]]).
* Akihiko/Misaki may counts as this in ''Manga/JunjouRomantica''. [[CrazyJealousGuy Akihiko]] is the demon, since he is very perverted and possessive towards Misaki, while [[AllLovingHero Misaki]] is the angel.
* ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun'': Wakamatsu/Seo. Wakamatsu is rather a sweet, naive, and innocent {{Keet}} and Seo is TheDreaded AntiRoleModel for the basketball team (of which Wakamatsu is part of) that tends to RootingForTheEmpire when watching movies. However, it couldn't be plainer Seo very much fancies Wakamatsu, and while Wakamatsu has a thing for the pure-voiced Lorelei (who, in reality, ''is'' Seo), he's also jealous of the prospect of Seo having a boyfriend.
* Played fairly canon in ''Literature/{{No 6}}'' with all the HoYay between Shion (angel) and Nezumi (devil).
* [[ManipulativeBastard Vincent]] [[{{Yandere}} Nightray]] of ''Manga/PandoraHearts'' has a bit of this going on with everyone, but especially with his brother Gil and Ada.
* [[{{Keet}} Tetsunosuke]] and [[StalkerWithACrush Suzu]] become this in the sequel manga of ''Manga/PeacemakerKurogane''.
* In ''Anime/PrincessTutu'', Ahiru (angel) and Fakir (devil) initially have this dynamic, with Fakir being a [[DeadpanSnarker sarcastic]] {{Jerkass}} and Ahiru being a kind-hearted CuteClumsyGirl. However, said {{Jerkass}} [[DefrostingIceQueen defrosts]] later on.
* Akio in ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'' actively seeks to be the devil in all his relationships, be they with [[DepravedBisexual males or females]].
** Utena/Anthy also shows up given Anthy's true nature and the amount of LesYay subtext/text they have in canon.
* In the backstory of ''Manga/TheSevenDeadlySins'', Meliodas and Liz (devil/angel respectively) were this. Fortunately for the world, Meliodas is much more heroic now, though [[ChivalrousPervert he]] still contrasts with the naivete of [[spoiler:Elizabeth's present incarnation]].
* Xelloss/Filia in ''Literature/{{Slayers}}'', as Xelloss is part of the Monster Race, which feeds off dark emotions, and Fillia is a priestess of light.
* Maka/Giriko in ''Manga/SoulEater'' with Giriko targeting Maka and wanting to rape and kill her. And then there's [[AmbiguousGender Chrona]]/Medusa.
* ''Manga/TokyoGhoul'' has initially innocent characters [[AllLovingHero Kaneki and Mutsuki]] being prey to the devil characters who have [[ImAHumanitarian nasty]] [[RapeAsDrama inclinations]] [[IHaveYouNowMyPretty towards them]], with both eventually turning on the devils with renewed strength and realizations about themselves, [[SanitySlippage which have negative repercussions]].
* Aoshika/Haguro in ''Manga/WolfGuyWolfenCrest'' is a particularly disturbing pairing as he actually does [[spoiler:target and rape her]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Card Games]]
* ''TabletopGame/MagicTheGathering'': The Battlebond expansion has a very literal example with [[https://scryfall.com/card/bbd/4/krav-the-unredeemed the demon Krav]] and [[https://scryfall.com/card/bbd/3/regna-the-redeemer the angel Regna]]; [[https://scryfall.com/card/bbd/26/bring-down these]] [[https://scryfall.com/card/bbd/30/regnas-sanction three]] [[https://scryfall.com/card/c21/108/together-forever cards]], the two are a romantic couple.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/FinePrint'': Cupids and [[SuccubiAndIncubi Cubi]] are not exactly angels and demons in the Christian sense, more minor Greek gods with new jobs, but they are rivals competing to inspire love and lust in mortals. And the emotions they inspire are like addictive drugs to their counterparts, leading to a large number of illicit Cupid/Cubi liasons.
* ''ComicBook/PS238'': Malphast's parents are an angel and a devil.
* ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse'': During their early appearances, Marvel's ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}} and ComicBook/BlackWidow fell into this; Hawkeye was the [[WideEyedIdealist idealistic]], [[GoodIsDumb gullible]], affectionate partner to the [[ManipulativeBitch manipulative]], [[ProfessionalKiller sinister]] Black Widow. Fortunately for them, LoveRedeems, and both ended up becoming superheroes even after the relationship fizzled out.
* ''ComicBook/{{Preacher}}'': Genesis was born when an angel and a succubus fell for each other. When the angels found out, the succubus got a MercyKill and the angel sent to Earth. [[spoiler:All from the beginning, part of God's plan to make something with as much power as Him, whose love he could then feed off of]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/MarriageOfHeavenAndHell'' is a literal example, as the angel protagonist Makoto unwittingly starts building a harem from the devils of the [[Literature/HighSchoolDXD Occult Research Club]].
* ''[[https://incorrectsmashbrosquotes.tumblr.com Incorrect Smash Bros Quotes]]'' has the aforementioned example of Galeem/Dharkon, though amusingly, ''personality-wise'' [[PowerStereotypeFlip the angel/devil roles are swapped]]--Galeem is the dour, [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] {{Tsundere}} Devil, while Dharkon is the cheerful, energetic, [[TheDitz and none too bright]] Angel.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Franchise/StarWars'': [[TroubledButCute Anakin Skywalker]] and [[BrainyBrunette Padme Amidala]] from the prequel trilogy are this, especially as the series progresses and Anakin [[SanitySlippage becomes increasingly violent, deranged and evil]], eventually turning into [[BigBad Darth Vader]] and [[spoiler:causing Padme's own death]].
* ''Film/TheDarkKnight'': Rachel/the Joker. He acts flirtatious towards her, calls her beautiful repeatedly, appears to sniff her, and threatens her with a knife. Subverted when she knees him in the groin to get him away from her and he likes it.
* ''Film/LittleNicky'': A demon and an angel produced a child together.
* ''Film/RedEye'': Jackson Rippner/Lisa Reisert. Overlaps with MindGameShip with sprinkles of BlackAndGrayMorality. The WordOfGod along with [[AllThereInTheScript the script drafts]] confirm that Rippner has VillainousCrush on Lisa, while she flirted with him only until he revealed himself to be working for terrorists.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* ''Literature/TheBeginningAfterTheEnd'': It is revealed in Volume 8 that [[spoiler:Sylvia - Arthur's deceased surrogate grandmother - and Agrona - the BigBad who orchestrated her death - used to be lovers. While they are a dragon and basilisk respectively, their species fulfill the angel and devil roles of the setting as the former are a case of DragonsAreDivine and the rulers of the Asuras while the latter resemble horned demons and [[FallenAngel were exiled from Epheotus]] - the land of the Asuras - for threatening to expose the former for committing genocide. Notably, Sylvia still believed there was good in Agrona after he was exiled, only to be proven horribly wrong as when she reunited with him he had been twisted into a hateful shadow of his past self. This forced her into hiding with their unborn daughter Sylvie, whom she would eventually entrust Arthur with before she was assassinated]].
* ''Literature/ColdfireTrilogy'': With all the HoYay they have, Gerald Tarrant and Damien Vryce. The former is a demon/vampire, and the latter is a priest.
%%* ''Literature/{{Abarat}}'': Christopher Carrion and Princess Boa would've been this. He's from the lands of Night, and she's from the lands of Day.%%And the shipping comes in where?
%%* ''Literature/MortalInstruments'': Sebastian Verlac appears to be the devil to Clarissa Fray[[spoiler:Morgenstern]]. That is, [[spoiler:when one ignores the fact that he killed the real Sebastian Verlac and is actually her older brother, Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern, and has [[BrotherSisterIncest incestual feelings]] for her]].
* ''Literature/ThePictureOfDorianGray'': Dorian is a ManipulativeBastard to Basil, who is in love with him and unaware of Dorian's true nature and the lengths he is willing to go to for preserving his youthful beauty. [[spoiler: Dorian ends up stabbing him]].
* ''Literature/FiftyShadesOfGrey'': Christian Grey is a FetishizedAbuser with a controlling nature towards his sub/girlfriend Ana, with strong undertones of gaslighting.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'': Whistler is a half-demon who appeared in Season 2. In the Season 9 comics, he reveals that his parents were one of the PowersThatBe (the closest beings the Franchise/{{Buffyverse}} has to angels) and a pure-blooded demon. This is compared to (as in being a lot more taboo than) the [[BigGood Slayer]]/Vampire pairings (Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike).
* ''Series/TheFlash2014'' has a few.
** Zoom is an AxCrazy maniac with dozens of kills under his built, and he plans on obliterating all Earths except Earth-1. He professes his love for Caitlin Snow, a calm and compassionate scientist. Although she does feel attracted to him when he's disguised as [[spoiler:Jay Garrick]], she wants nothing to do with him when she finds out who he really is.
** Late in Season 3, Caitlin Snow is turned into [[spoiler:Killer Frost and tries to murder Barry, who she felt an attraction towards, with a hypothermia-inducing kiss. She's quick to join Savitar when he reveals himself to be an alternate Barry and promises her that they can rule the universe together.]]
* ''Series/GoodOmens2019'': Season 2, which picks up after the book left off, [[spoiler:confirms Aziraphale and Crowley as well as Gabriel and Beelzebub. Though by the end of the season Aziraphale and Crowley have somewhat broken up as Aziraphale went back to Heaven while Gabe and Beel have left behind both Heaven and Hell.]]
* ''Series/{{Hannibal}}'' and Will Graham get this, with Will Graham being a FBI profiler who has a special gift that allows him to empathize with criminals and Hannibal being Will's psychiatrist and secretly a serial killer and cannibal. They gradually come to obsess over one another.
* ''Series/{{Lucifer}}''
** The pairing of Maze and Amenadiel literally embody this, Maze being Lucifer's demon bartender and Amenadiel being Lucifer's angelic brother.
** [[spoiler: Maze and Eve]], arguably, also fit this trope, with [[spoiler: Eve being TheCutie directly created by God and Maze being sort of new to feeling things, who doesn't really know what love is until she meets Lucifer's bubbly ex-girlfriend.]]
* Jane/Hoyt in ''Series/RizzoliAndIsles'' during the episodes Hoyt was on the show when he instilled within her a sense of fear and made her feel vulnerable.
* ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'':
** In "Heaven and Hell", demon Ruby and [[spoiler:angel Anna]] (both occupying very attractive bodies at the time) are sitting in the backseat of the Impala with Dean at the wheel. Dean apparently ships them, since he can't resist comparing the scenario to a Penthouse forum letter.
** PlayedForLaughs when Dean is having an EroticDream of two strippers in angel and devil costumes dancing for him.
--->'''Dean''': Now that's what I call peace on Earth.
** Meg (demon) and Castiel (angel) share a lot of subtext throughout their interactions. Then she decides to make out with him in one episode. She openly expresses her love for him in Season 8. [[spoiler:She promptly dies thereafter, [[ShipSinking sinking the ship]].]]
--->'''Meg''': ''(after being kissed by him)'' I feel so... clean.
** Crowley, the King of Hell, intimates he had a past relationship with the Angelic leader Naomi in Mesopotamia. It's left ambiguous whether they knew each other's identities at the time, although angels can see demons' true faces...
** It's revealed in the final season that angel Castiel has [[spoiler: been in love with former demon Dean since they first met,]] officially making the ship canon, at least on Castiel's side.
[[/folder]]

%%[[folder:Music]]
%%* This trope is the subject of Devil's Love Song by Tishamingo.
%%[[/folder]]

[[folder:Podcasts]]
* ''Podcast/BrimstoneValleyMall'': Asmoraius, a [[HotAsHell demon of seduction]] who's been sent up to Earth to lead humans into temptation, falls hard and fast for clean-cut NiceGuy Trent. [[spoiler:The trope becomes all the more literal when the first season finale reveals Trent isn't just an absurdly altruistic human, but an actual angel. Which naturally complicates their relationship somewhat.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* ''Franchise/MagicTheGathering'' has [[https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=445971 Regna the Redeemer and Krav the Unredeemed,]] a literal angel in love with a literal demon. Their relationship is signified mechanically by them being "partners," meaning you can find one from your deck if you play the other, and they can both be [[SignatureMon Commanders]] in the game's Commander format.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'': Protagonist Dante, and his brother Vergil, are the product of a relationship between a human woman named Eva and a demon lord named Sparda, [[DefectorFromDecadence who ended up turning good]] before [[MayflyDecemberRomance their relationship started]], while the [[VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry reboot]] shakes this up so that Dante's mother was actually an angel, making this a literal case of the trope (but still not figuratively). Dante himself ends up playing Angel to Trish, [[{{Squick}} a demon created to seduce him in the image of his mother]], who, like Dante's father, ends up becoming heroic and sides with him.
* ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}'': The AllThereInTheManual backstory establishes that this is where humanity ''came from''. Sanctuary was created as a world for rebellious angels and demons to hide from the ForeverWar between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. They started getting cosy with each other, and the ancestors of humanity were literally born as a result.
* ''Franchise/{{Disgaea}}'': ''VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness'': Laharl/Flonne is a literal example (albeit with a NobleDemon). There's also Flonne/Etna for non-canon ships as well.
%%** ''VideoGame/Disgaea4' has another literal example with [[FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire Valvatorez]] and Artina, though the former never admits it.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'':
** Olivia, a sweet, bashful young woman prone to blushing intensely, is commonly paired up with Henry, a sociopathic magician who always looks forward to physically tearing someone to pieces. The best part is, you can make this happen in-game. Like any of Henry's other prospective wives, this is a canon example of the devil character slowly toning down their devilish characteristics because of his interaction with the angel. Whoever Henry gets married to (as well as the couple's child/children) ends up becoming his MoralityChain, and while Henry will never fully get rid of his violent tendencies, he turns out to be both a faithful husband and a good father.
** While not as popular as Henry and Olivia, Libra and Tharja fall into this too. The former is a benevolent priest while the later is a DarkMagicalGirl with [[StalkerWithACrush an unhealthy obsession with Robin]].
* ''VideoGame/TheGrayGarden'': Etihw and Kcalb (sometimes) show affection toward each other, despite the war that happened between them in the past. Plus all those canon bonus comics on the official website.
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV'' has the love between Astrals Shiva (a messenger of the gods) and Ifrit (basically their version of the Devil). In a twist, Ifrit used to be the good guy and Shiva used to hate humanity, but their positions switched with time.
* ''VideoGame/ShadowHearts'' has Yuri, an ArrogantKungFuGuy who can turn into a variety of powerful monsters, and Alice, a sheltered and naïve WhiteMagicianGirl. Their relationship forms much of the series' emotional core, [[spoiler: even though Alice canonically dies at the end of the first game.]]
* ''[[https://nomnomnami.itch.io/contract-demon Contract Demon]]'' has an angel and the demon she formed a contract with fall in love. Humorously, the angel is the one who's rather eager for this kind of relationship whereas the demon is far more awkward and hesitant about matters of romance/sex (and isn't even very good about the whole DealWithTheDevil thing because she's just too nice to actually tempt/hurt her "victim"). [[spoiler:Also, the "angel" is actually a human witch who pretended to be an angel because she ''really'' wanted to roleplay this trope.]]
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'': Rouge and Knuckles aren't a couple but they get a lot of ShipTease. Their relationship sways between this and DatingCatwoman depending on [[DependingOnTheWriter how heroic Rouge is portrayed]]. At minimum, she's a coy thief that contrasts with Knuckles' straight-laced heroism.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Littlewood}},'' the main character is a former Hero who defeated an EvilOverlord known as the Dark Wizard and saved the world from his reign. However, that same Dark Wizard is actually one of the game's available LoveInterest characters for its RomanceSidequest. The game also plays with DracoInLeatherPants in that he turns out to be [[MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold not evil, just misunderstood]], and his behavior once romanced is [[CuddleBug extremely fluffy and sweet]]--much like happens in fanfics that pair up [[FoeYayShipping a hero and a villain.]]
* ''Franchise/{{Tekken}}'':
** [[Characters/TekkenKazuyaMishima Kazuya Mishima]] (a Devil Gene Carrier and the series antagonist since Tekken 2) and Jun Kazama (an Animal Protection Officer, who has power to supress Devil Gene; and just a sweet person in general) conceive a child during events of Tekken 2. Jun feels bad for Kazuya, feeling his emotional pain and loneliness and wants to be his solace; while Kazuya states that he likes her strength.
** To a lesser extent [[Characters/TekkenJinKazama Jin Kazama]], the son of the aforementioned couple, thus also a Devil Gene carrier, the antagonist of Tekken 6; and Ling Xiaoyu, a sweet girl who has a dream to build an amusement park to make everyone happy. Xiaoyu has a crush for Jin since at least Tekken Tag Tournament/Tekken 4. The extent of Jin's feelings towards her was always more ambiguous, however he at least wants her to stay away from the series main conflict i.e. the Mishimas. The story mode of Tekken 8 gives them a massive ShipTease.

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}:
** [[spoiler: [[BigBad Salem]] and her lover [[DeathIsNotPermanent Ozma]] have a long and complicated history. She's an immortal sorceress transformed by the same dark force that creates the Grimm, he is a [[ResurrectiveImmortality multi-incarnate wizard]] resurrected by [[AboveGoodAndEvil the Gods]] before they [[ButNowIMustGo departed Remnant]]. Their story only gets darker, sadder and weirder from there]].
** To a lesser extent, Taiyang Xiao Long and Raven Branwen. Tai is a wholesome, loving family man who works as a teacher, trains his daughter to defend herself and works to provide a safe and loving home for his girls. Raven is a MightMakesRight believing, cold and calculating bandit leader who raids innocent settlements to kill and loot whoever and whatever they can find and knowingly brings Grimm with her tribe's negativity to poke through the survivors, who abandoned their family, scorns them when they question her or ask anything of her and actively works with Salem's faction for her own ends. However, there is a small part of her that loves her family, regrets abandoning them and leads her to keep an eye on them, though it's not strong enough to give her the courage to draw Salem's attention to herself to protect her daughter.

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* ''Webcomic/AntiHeroes'': The chief protagonist and the chief antagonist are the Krylorn twins, children of an archdevil and a celestial falling in love.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Megatokyo}}'', Piro has a GoodAngelBadAngel pair called Seraphim and Asmodeus, respectively. They seem to have had some sort of relationship in the past, and Asmodeus still hits on her occasionally.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'': A lot of people shipped [[LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine Princess Bubblegum and Marceline]], with Marceline as the darker demon with a self-proclaimed lost moral code to Princess Bubblegum's more mature and organized personality, though this is muddled with later episodes fleshing out Marceline's morality and making Princess Bubblegum more insidious. They're strongly implied to be exes who had a bad break-up, and they ultimately reconnected and became an OfficialCouple in the finale.
* ''WesternAnimation/AngelsFriends'': The main couple, Raf and Sulfus, are literally angel and demon. While Raf is an optimistic, compassionate, and a strong-willed angel, Sulfus is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold devil who is arrogant and pessimistic.
* For one with a female devil and a male angel, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt of ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars''. Blackarachnia is a sultry, scheming, deadly DarkActionGirl with a taste for treachery. Silverbolt is a noble, dedicated, chivalrous, sometimes downright ''corny'' KnightInShiningArmor. They bond while stranded together and cut off from their respective factions.
-->'''Blackarachnia''': I like being a bad girl. And you know something else? Somewhere deep beneath this squeaky clean armor-plating of yours, I think you like it too, hmm?
* ''WesternAnimation/TheBookOfLife'' gives us GodCouple La Muerte and Xibalba. La Muerte is the kind-hearted, made of everything sweet goddess that rules over the Land of the Remembered and believes HumansAreGood, while Xibalba is the devilish, made of everything icky and grimy {{Jerkass God|s}} who rules over the Land of the Forgotten and believes HumansAreBastards.
* ''WesternAnimation/Castlevania2017'': Lisa of Lupu is a human woman who sought the aid of a vampire to learn how to be a doctor to help heal mankind and elevate them up from their primitive, superstitious ways with knowledge and medicine. Draclua is a RetiredMonster who loathed humanity and would butcher humans for mere sleights in his heyday. Lisa's offer to help improve the lives of humans and Dracula's own life charmed him to the point that the two fell in love, married, and gave birth to their son Adrian. Sadly, Lisa was [[BurnTheWitch burned at the stake for "witchcraft"]] by the CorruptChurch, [[MoralityChain taking the one thing that held Dracula back]] from creating a HellOnEarth to [[KillAllHumans exterminate all of humanity]].
* ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'': Kuki/King Sandy. It's canon [[StalkerWithACrush on Sandy's side]] anyway.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheCrumpets'': Marylin and Caprice are a goth teen couple. While both are protagonists, Caprice is rude and hates animals at heart. Marylin is kind and loves animals so much they capture most of his attention during their first date.
* ''WesternAnimation/HazbinHotel'': Charlie Morningstar is a sweet, innocent misplaced Disney PrincessClassic who at times barely seems to realize she lives in Hell; while her girlfriend Vaggie is supportive but deeply cynical and prone to resorting to violence when presented with a problem. Ironically Charlie is [[AntiAntiChrist Lucifer's daughter]] [[spoiler:and Vaggie is a FallenAngel.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'': Kaeloo and Mr. Cat. Kaeloo is the protagonist, Mr. Cat is the antagonist, yet they both have feelings for each other [[UnresolvedSexualTension but aren't aware of the fact that it's mutual.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLionGuard'' has Janja -- the bloodthirsty primary villain of the first season whose clan hunts beyond what they need to survive -- and the noble Jasiri who teaches the hero that not all hyenas are evil and becomes the titular team's most valuable ally. An attraction between them is first hinted at towards the end of Season 2 and becomes more obvious in the Season 3 premiere, where Janja's feelings for Jasiri prompt his HeelFaceTurn.
