The Trilogy of Aeir is a Young Adult High Fantasy series by Elizabeth Suzanne Hines (E. S. Hines). It is set in Aeir, a land where shapeshifters are more common than humans, but are slowly dying out due to the weakening of their bloodlines. The first two books, though set in the same universe, have different characters and are set in different locations. Both revolve around unusual shapeshifters with connections to Aeir's history.

The Last Dove: Enira, a region encircled by the mountains of Aeir, is home to ferocious warriors and devoted clansmen who all share one special ability - that of the Change. The Change allows them to shed their human form and assume an animal one based on their clan’s heritage. But peace is not theirs; the feuds between clans are becoming steadily more intense, and each clan has their own ambitions for the future of their country.

In this time of impending civil war a girl named Bria, whose own shapeshifting abilities still have yet to manifest, runs away from the cruelty of the village she grew up in. As she travels across Enira she becomes embroiled in a generations-old plot, and discovers secrets about her past and the past of her country that soon force her to decide who to trust - and who to love - even as she becomes the unexpected keystone of a revolution that will affect all of Aeir.

The Black Panther: Cimari's history is rife with magic; the verdant land exists because of the sacrifices of its first settlers. For centuries memory of that sacrifice, and respect for it, kept peace in Aeir's western half.

But the power-hungry, as they always do, rise. Under words of peace, and finally admissions of war, the Tigers swept across Cimari and conquered the other prides one by one. Only the island of Ayari, and the Leopards who guarded its ancient relic, stood against them in their march south.

Generations later a leopard princess, Kaia, was born with the rare all-black coloration that has marked great members of their line for eons. She, at the will of her father, is chosen to invade the Tiger fortress in a way she would never have forseen - a way that would change her life irrevocably, and the outcome of which will determine the fate of her people and all Cimari.

The third book is currently unreleased.

!!This series provides examples of:

* Animorphism: Everyone can turn into some sort of animal.
* CapitalLettersAreMagic: Pretty much everything that's magic is capitalized, but the Change is the most JustForFun/egregious example.
* CareBearStare: The doves' power. Queen Vasi united all of the clans by defusing the tension between them with this power.
* ColorCodedEyes: Bria is the only person anyone has ever seen with purple eyes, which makes her identifiable as . Specifically, they're "PurpleProse sparkling amethyst-purple eyes that have silvery flecks throughout the color."
* DeathByOriginStory: Queen Vasi,
* FakeDefector: for about two days, to keep from being captured.
* FarmBoy: A rare female example. Bria, , grows up in a hospital in a rural town.
* FlatCharacter: Because of the way the story is told, few of the characters have any traits beyond the few that define them, and the small amount of backstory shown isn't there to justify their traits but to set up the conflict.
* FunetikAksent: Roth has this, but it's a very readable one that only leaves out a few consonants.
%%* TheHighQueen: Queen Vasi.
* HopeBringer: Bria, who people think will be able to bring peace to Enira by .
* InterspeciesRomance: The reason the Doves, the Boars, and the Deer died out.
** Subverted with Adrian and Bria, because she .
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: Darius controls the council by capturing someone close to each member and threatening to kill them if the council members don't do his bidding.
* MeaningfulName: Adrian means "dark one."
* MissingMom: is dead.
* MysteriousParent: It's pretty obvious from the beginning that Bria is the orphaned daughter of .
%%* RagsToRoyalty:
* RaisedByNatives: Bria was raised by a village of bird people.
%%* RightfulQueenReturns:
* RousingSpeech: Bria gives one to the council before Adrian
* SaidBookism: Mostly sticks to said and asked, but almost always has an adverb alongside.
* TheStoryteller: Lazur, who tells the story of the Tigers to Kaia before sending her on her mission.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Bria with Adrian. Though he appears menacing in the beginning, he's "all bark and no bite."
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Played straight with Adrian. He also wears black. And can turn into a wolf.
* ThisWasHisTrueForm: Not when they die, but most of the shapeshifters tend to sleep in whichever form they are more familiar with.
* TrickDialogue: Bria, when confessing her love for Adrian, finds out that he wasn't actually asleep and could hear every word she said.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: No one in Bria's village will talk to you if you can't do it.
