!!This story contains examples of:

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Take this with a HUGE grain of salt, but the "writer's cut" toned down some of Ryan's actions and omitted his particularly disgusting crimes.
* AlliterativeName: Ryan Rhodes.
* AxCrazy: Ryan Rhodes, who burns kids alive and rapes girls to death while laughing.
* BigBad: Ryan Rhodes, a teenager killing his classmates while stranded in the woods.
* BigBrotherBully: Ryan reminisces about tormenting his younger brother back home.
* CanonWelding:
** In Literature/FragmentsOfASoul, another story by the same author, Ryan is mentioned in passing when Adam and Laura make love:
--->"I dunno why, but that just reminded me of that one time when Troy Rhodes shit his pants in front of the classroom," Adam said while chuckling.
--->"Wait, Troy? Troy Rhodes?" said Laura. "Isn't he Ryan's little brother?"
--->"Yeah, I think so," Adam answered.
** Another of the author's stories Literature/ACaseInBucksville briefly references the story.
--->"He saw Gravity Falls, a reality show, news about a bus going missing during a field trip for middle and high schoolers in Washington, and a talk show all playing on TV. Then he saw it."
* DirtyCoward: Ryan panics and cries for help the second anybody tries to fight back against him, despite pretending he has everything under control even around people who have saved his life before.
* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:Every survivor but Ryan and Amelia commits suicide after all the trauma of the woods. Amelia is left wondering if humans are in any way decent when law is taken away. The only really hopeful part of the ending is the implication that Ryan will be arrested for his crimes, but this isn't confirmed.]]
* DrivenToSuicide:
* EnfantTerrible: When Ryan was a child, he hospitalized a kid by putting dirt in his lunch, set the cafeteria on fire and killed a teacher's pet hamster.
* EventTitle
* FauxAffablyEvil: Ryan is stated to put on the facade of a decent person whenever he is in the presence of authority figures.
* ForTheEvulz: Ryan finds being stuck in the woods to be freeing, and uses the chance to start butchering people for his own amusement.
* HairTriggerTemper: Ryan is prone to extreme violence at the slightest thing, even nearly drowning George for speaking to him in the wrong tone.
* HateSink: Ryan Rhodes, despite being the protagonist of the story, is the only character without any likable traits. Not only does he kill, rape, and torture just for the fun of it, he is an absolute coward who acts like a jerk to basically anyone he sees, showing no gratitude towards Aaron for saving his life despite begging for someone to come to his rescue just seconds ago. He hates his own family for no real reason aside from the fact that they get on his nerves at times, and he even treats his own gang like dirt, not batting an eye when they are killed. All in all, it is clear that he is not someone we should feel any sympathy for.
* KickTheDog: Ryan shoots a puppy that a group of girls are petting for no reason whatsoever.
* KidsWildernessEpic: Deconstructed. The protagonists are older teenagers who are fully aware of the dangers of the wilderness and consequently terrified, and the main character is a sociopath who ends up picking them off one by one.
* PaedoHunt: Ryan bought child porn for fun once.
* PetTheDog: Ryan’s gang get a number of these, namely:
** George showing concern for his parents back home.
** Gavin desperately trying to save Aaron’s life after Aaron is shot by a vengeful mob.
* RapeAndRevenge: Romeo tries to hunt down Ryan's gang after they rape Estelle to death, but they simply mob the guy and stab him to death.
* TheSociopath: Ryan Rhodes has been committing acts of violence since he was a child, committing his first murder in fifth grade. After he and a bunch of other students are trapped in the wilderness, Ryan gets a gang together to rape and murder for fun. Despite sticking with them for a month, Ryan never pretends to care about them, only needing them to help him not die during the trip. He absolutely despises society, and thinks rules are for suckers, even hating his parents for trying to parent him.
* StupidEvil: Most of Ryan’s crimes are entirely random and done on whims. The only reason he sticks with his gang instead of just killing them too is because he needs them to help him survive, but at the same time, he treats them in a way that almost guarantees that they will eventually grow tired of him and betray him. Overall, there really isn’t any common sense, intelligence, or reasoning going on with the guy.
* TeensAreMonsters: The villain protagonists of the story are a group of teenage boys taking advantage of their class being stuck in the woods to rape and murder as they please.
* TreasureMap: There's buried treasure near where the class are staying, and Gavin found a map with all the locations. Ryan, naturally, decides to get all of it and kill anybody who gets in the way.
* VillainousBreakdown: Ryan completely loses it and panics when he is cornered and attacked by the mob, and after they jump off a cliff, he bursts out laughing before furiously screaming for them to burn in hell.
* VillainProtagonist: Ryan Rhodes, who has spent his life hurting others and goes on a killing spree when stranded deep in the woods.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: The whole premise of the story revolves around this as the main storyline focuses on a group of kids showing their true depraved nature once they are free from authorities.
