So you wanna be a [[BigGood supremely good guy who is in control of other heroes]]? Here are the steps, but be wary... [[BeingGoodSucks it's not easy]], [[EvilIsEasy unlike the other path.]]
----
# Be a ''[[HeroTropes hero]].'' This one should go without saying. If you [[TheAtoner started out as a evil person]] but [[HeelFaceTurn became good later on]], you ''damn'' well better do an impressive exercise in grade-a heroism, because even then it's a stretch to undo all those pesky, previous evil acts of yours (look to [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Uncle Iroh for inspiration]]).
# Round up some TrueCompanions for your team/organization. [[BadassCrew Then give them lessons in being badass]]. If you don't have any friends, then just get yourself [[TheSquad a Squad]].
# Train your fellow good guys to be stronger to take on any threats, inter dimensional or otherwise.
# It helps to be [[AlwaysMale a guy]].
# .....But [[VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising women can]] [[Anime/{{Hellsing}} do this too]].
# When asking questions, [[NeverGiveTheCaptainAStraightAnswer never expect your subordinates to answer you right away]].
# [[GoodFeelsGood Enjoy every part in doing good for others.]] Or better yet, [[ForGreatJustice be dedicated in doing noble acts.]]
# Love your KirkSummation and for extra oomph, [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech tell the bad guys about why they always lose.]] Don't be swayed by [[ShutUpHannibal anyone's appeal for evil.]] Also, you can [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre motivate other good people by praising them for their strengths and abilities.]]
# [[AFatherToHisMen Treat your team like they're your own family]]. [[Franchise/{{Transformers}} Optimus Prime]] is a good role model to this.
# PetTheDog. Helping people in need is probably the best way to recruit them in your team/organization.
# [[OfficerAndAGentleman Be polite and courteous to others on your organization]]. Bonus points if you have side hobbies like [[CulturedWarrior poetry, classical music, and of course, Shakespeare]]. Double bonus if you [[Literature/AubreyMaturin play the violin]].
# Be best friends with at least one person in your team.
# You don't have to be ''a'' leader to be [[TheLeader THE Captain]]. Sometimes [[Franchise/MassEffect a Commander will suffice]].
# You absolutely MUST be a badass, if you want to be the powerful good guy. It's not always the physical type of badass beating down the enemies, however. You can substitute that with an iron will and unflappableness against all odds, all backed up with the trust of your subordinates that they will clean up the fight if you cannot.
# Every once in a while, [[TenMinuteRetirement quit being the big guy (or lady) in charge. Just for a little while]]. Besides getting a much needed vacation, your organization will see that [[ReplacementScrappy the new guy]] [[TyrantTakesTheHelm is nowhere near as good at the job as you are]] and they'll be thrilled when you come back.
# [[IDidWhatIHadToDo It's okay if you "bend" the rules every now and again, as long as it works]].
# Be [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure very reasonable]]. If one of your members report to you in spite of his/her ''[[MilitaryMaverick antics]]''... try to [[BenevolentBoss back them up and remain supportive]] of them in any way you can.
# Never EVER needlessly sacrifice your crew [[WeHaveReserves just because you can]] -- or even [[GloryHound to look impressive]].
# While in the kingdom, enjoy being TheGoodKing. [[TheChainsOfCommanding Just don't enjoy it too much]].
# Never EVER [[LimitedAdvancementOpportunities accept a promotion]]. Remember, it's good to be the BigGood. Keep the job as long as possible.
# [[CaptainsLog Keep a diary of all your adventures]].
# Special Note: If you follow all these steps, but you just can't swing any vehicle, then consider being [[ColonelBadass a Colonel instead]].
# Remember what's most important to your subordinates; when you don't do everything you can to make sure everyone gets the best food or equipment, you practically ''invite'' TheStarscream to start acting up.
# If the situation goes bleak, [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifice yourself]] to save your allies/for your noble cause.
# If someone on your team/organization suggests an idea so ridiculous it seems doomed to fail, remember [[CrazyEnoughToWork it just might work]].
# If you see TheWoobie or someone who undergone the BreakTheCutie moment, [[HealTheCutie try to help them through their plight]] and become their source of their CharacterDevelopment.
# BreakTheHaughty. Or better, make the former bad guys into heroes or your close allies after [[DefeatMeansFriendship defeating them.]] Study [[MagneticHero the actions and relationships]] of [[Anime/{{Naruto}} Naruto Uzumaki]] for proof.
# You gotta [[IndyPloy think fast on your feet]] if you want to do good for the society.
# Be TheCape (or even better, TheParagon). Make sure that your ideals inspire many people to try to do right for the world and find joy in helping others.
# Feeling that being a {{Jerkass}} gets in the way of helping others and being the force of good? Then try the JerkWithAHeartOfGold card! It helps that there is such goodness beneath a rough and rude exterior. [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jotaro Kujo]] is a good example of this rule.
# If you're the AntiHero in [[TraumaCongaLine some]] [[DarkAndTroubledPast good]] [[BrokenBird reasons]], then it's for the best if you go with the KnightInSourArmor alignment, because [[GoodIsNotNice even if you're cynical, you have to try to make the world into a better place for everyone.]]
# If possible, be TheAce. Try to perform any feat, such as defeating the most powerful villains, monsters or other evil force to save your allies. Additionally, you can turn the tide of battle in your party's favor. [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Dante]] is the one to convince you.
# Be [[MessianicArchetype the Messiah]]. People would look up to you for guidance and wisdom if you'd manage to sacrifice your well-being for the safety of many others.
# If you're the preacher or religious type, make sure you also walk the talk and show the world that [[LightIsGood the Light is indeed a force of good.]] With so many people [[CorruptChurch corrupting the teachings of light]] and [[LightIsNotGood making them look hypocritical]] or [[TheFundamentalist being dangerous fundamentalist zealots]], you can definitely save the Light and make sure they're used as it was intended: To bring warmth and protect the good. Here are some of the extra tasks related to this:
** You're a deity of some sorts? Then [[GodIsGood please be benevolent for the humans and your followers. Increase your patience and always protect them like a big, protective daddy/mommy from the sky.]] Keep your desire to use your powers for personal gain in check (lest you become a [[JerkassGods jerkass deity]]... [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold unless you actually mean well]]), use them to eliminate those who threatens your people.
** Be a GoodShepherd. Guide your people to the path of righteousness, and [[ForHappiness do it only for the sake of seeing them thrive and happy.]] Sacrificing your happiness is good and all, but do be careful about your well-being. If the setting's good, the people under you will notice and selflessly flock to save you in the hour of need. Boy, do [[Film/ItsAWonderfulLife George Bailey]] have stories to tell you about it!
