Line #30 Heartwarming/Dinosaurs


1	* When Earl's sister, Pearl, a country singer, shows up and the two of them sing together at the end of the episode. It's really very sweet.
2	** Also, Robbie and Charlene's reactions. At first, they're embarrassed. When Earl begins to sing, though, they realize their dad is a talented performer, and by the end they're applauding with everyone else, and Charlene's even moved to tears.
3	* The ending of "Career Opportunities". Earl and the Job Wizard get to live out their dreams (Earl wanted to be a choreographer and the Job Wizard wanted to be a dancer).
4	* Earl's speech to Robbie at the end of the two-part "Nuts to War" episodes.
5	** Baby spending the two episodes in a Wile E. Coyote/Road Runner battle with a Cookie Creature, only for him to discover that the creature is only stealing to feed his little ones and Baby lets them have the cookie. Considering that Baby is kind of selfish this speaks volumes.
6	* The episode, "The Golden Child" can be summed up in one word: "Daddy."
7	** More detail: Baby grows a golden horn which means he's destined to be the dinosaur king... but must leave his family forever. Earl visits him one last time and tells him he loves him only to be informed he must leave but he can 'touch the horn' like every other person begging Baby to grant their wish. When he does so the horn becomes lose and he swears he can fix it for the Baby so he can be king as otherwise he'd just be Earl's son. Baby calls him "daddy" and Earl snaps off the horn, give Baby his wish.
8	** Baby and Roy's scene is very touching. Baby even calls him "Uncle Roy" and tells him he shouldn't be ashamed of his short arms as they are what makes Roy himself. Baby then makes a single request: to give him a kiss on the snout.
9	* The end of "Endangered Species", where it is revealed that the grapdelites eaten by Richfield left behind two children, who are even repurposed by Earl as his anniversary present for Fran. We then see the family lovingly care for the baby grapdelites.
10	* As incredibly bleak as it is, the end of "Changing Nature" has one. Baby asks his family what will happen to them, and his siblings, not having the heart to tell their little brother they won't survive, says that whatever happens, they'll be in this together. Awwww.
11	* In "The Mighty Megalosaurus," Earl meets Arthur Rizzik, who narrowly escaped being dinner earlier and whose family left him after Earl pushed over his tree. Rizzik tells Earl that without his family, he's nothing, and asks Earl to eat him. Earl can't go through with it, and Rizzik says he won't forget it. When Earl comes back to work to ask Richfield for his severance pay, it's revealed that Rizzik, as Richfield's new personal assistant, not only got Earl his job back, but also put him down for a slight raise in salary, as a thank-you.
12	* In a bittersweet way, in "Refrigerator Day", after feeling he's ruined the holiday for the Baby, Earl hands him a frying pan so he can hit him on the head, but Baby refuses, saying that it's getting old. When Earl then complains that his own son won't hit him over the head, Ethyl gladly hits Earl with a stick, saying "I'll always be there for you!"
13	* When Baby hatches in the first episode and is introduced to Earl. Rather than hit him, he holds out his arms to hug him, sweetly saying "Daddy".
14	* Spike shows an unusual amount of concern for Robbie's well-being in "Steroids to Heaven", actively trying to discourage him from taking the episode's featured steroid-like substance. When Robbie does so anyway and starts becoming aggressive, Spike immobilizes him and stays with him throughout the night as the drug wears off. He spends most of the next morning yelling at Robbie to aggravate his headache, but it's still a demonstration that Spike's heart is in the right place. He also insists that Robbie apologize to his familiy, showing that Spike cares for them, too.
15	* In "Charlene's Amazing Humans", Baby tattles on the eponymous humans for begging for food, and Fran tells him not to feed them because, as Charlene and her agent arranged, they're only allowed to eat after they perform. Baby promptly gives them his banana. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be so heartwarming, as doing the opposite of what he's told purely out of spite is a common thing for Baby to do, but not in this case. He is visibly appalled to discover that Charlene doesn't feed the humans, so he's clearly doing it for their sake, even calling out for them to share as they scramble for it.
16	* In the episode "Driving Miss Ethyl," after Earl takes Ethyl to her high school reunion, the two of them squabbling all the while, they reach the high school only to discover that Ethyl is the only member of her graduating class who is still alive. Ethyl is devastated, but Earl comforts her, and when they get home it's clear that the two of them are on better terms and consider each other valued family members. Crosses over with Funny Moments when the rest of the family have trouble grasping this notion.
17	** While Earl is out of the house, Fran decides that she wants to surprise Earl with a family portrait and an argument ensues when she forces Robbie to wear the dinner jacket he long ago outgrew, Darlene a cutesy dress, and Baby his sailor suit. The photographer Fran hired reveals he's also a family therapist and helps them talk their problems out. At the end, the family is dressed in their regular clothes, and when Earl and Ethyl arrive, Fran tells him of the family portrait surprise, and he tells Francine that it will be incomplete if Ethyl is not in it, showing how much their road trip affected them for the better.
18	* The ending of "Earl, Don't Be a Hero", when Baby is playing with the Captain Impressive action figure and calling it "Captain Daddy".
19	* "High Noon" is undisputed proof of how loyal Earl's family is to him, showing that his wife and kids can't bear the thought of him dying in his duel with Gary. Fran even says to Gary's face that Earl is the only man she'll ever love.
20	* In addition to Earl and Roy patching up their friendship at the end of "The Howling", Roy reveals that the pencil set he gave to Robbie as a Howling Day present was the same one his father gave to him on his Howling Day and that he wanted to pass it on in spite of not having children of his own.
21	* The ending of "Unmarried...With Children", where Earl and Fran manage to successfully get their marriage license renewed by the skin of their teeth after Earl points out to the one they've consulted in renewing their license that marriage is more than just remembering certain things.
22	* "Switched at Birth" deals with the Sinclairs facing the possibility that they accidentally switched eggs with another family prior to Baby's hatching. In spite of rather strong evidence that the two families indeed have swapped children by mistake, Fran remains in denial that the child she raised isn't her real child, which is eventually payed off when Solomon the Great's magic act ends with the doctor who performed the DNA test appearing to admit that he made an error and that Baby is the Sinclairs' child after all.
23	* Ethyl's brief reunion with her deceased husband Louie in "The Last Temptation of Ethyl".
24	* The Sinclair children playing the "Name Game" in "And the Winner Is..." It is quite touching to see the three play together for once.
25	* The [[InMemoriam dedication to Jim Henson]] just before the very first episode.
26	* "Getting to Know You"
27	** Earl doing Fran's chores while his wife is sick.
28	** Charlene reconciling with her father after learning that her real family still treats her better than her foreign exchange family.
29	* "Green Card"
30	** When it is declared that four-legged dinosaurs can only stay in the country if they are willing to undergo the necessary surgery or marry a two-legged dinosaur, Roy is quick to volunteer to marry Monica to prevent her deportation even when Monica makes it clear that she doesn't love him.
31	** Earl apologizing to Monica for looking down on her for being a four-legged dinosaur.
32	** After the prejudice towards four-legged dinosaurs dies down, Roy and Monica choose to end their CitizenshipMarriage, but Monica does agree to go see a movie with Roy later, hinting that [[ShipTease there's an inkling of Monica reciprocating Roy's feelings towards her]].
33	* Earl comforting Charlene when the first boy she goes out with breaks her heart at the ending of "Charlene's Tail", especially when she asks if he will be there for her and he says he will, if she wants him to. Double heartwarming because Earl isn't exactly an involved parent, but this episode shows that he truly cares for her.
34	** When Charlene explains the boy left with another girl and she had to walk home alone, he asks why she didn't call, as he would have picked her up.
35	* The ending of "Dirty Dancin'", where Earl does his best to tell Robbie the facts of life and assures his son that there are things about the facts of life even he is clueless about.
36	* After Fran starts a job in "Honey I Miss the Kids," Earl tries bonding with his kids as part of a scheme to make Fran miss the kids and become a housewife again. But he and the kids wind up connecting more than he anticipated. In the final scene, Earl promises Baby that they'll watch his favorite video when he gets back from work while Baby asks for a hug and calls Earl "Daddy," much to Earl's surprise and delight. To top it all off, Baby is being completely sincere--it's not a ploy to get Earl close enough to hit him with a frying pan again.
37	* As bleak as the series finale is, the two clip show episodes at least mean that the dinosaurs are remembered.
38	* Earl using the mating dance to get Baby to go to sleep in "The Mating Dance". He even kisses Baby on the forehead.
39	** Fran pointing out that Earl taking care of their son is far more special than him simply doing the mating dance for her.
