* The anime ending to Anime/SoulEater. At first appearance, it's a bog-standard, frustrating, meaningless AssPull, especially irritating since handfuls of at-first-glance far more reasonable solutions (Death the Kid's Sanzu Lines, Black☆Star's upgraded powers, Maka's Black Blood and Weapon form capabilities, the PowerOfFriendship, BREW, any or even all of the Weapons becoming Death Scythes). But either of the alternative interpretations make it an amazingly meaningful bit of FridgeLogic. In the pessimistic outlook, it's DownerEnding. It seems insane, and when the villain's power is to cause insanity, that does not suggest that the heroes really won. In the more optimistic, Asura's greatest attribute was as a personification of fear, and what individuals are willing to do to try and escape fear. Pulling random superpowers out of thin air, falling into the superpowered evil side, calling on supermagitech, training done to overcome the fear of not matching up to potential, that stuff can't beat Asura; it's what he's made from, and what made him what he is. It's not about some mystical power popping from nowhere at the last episode, it's about the same courage from episode one that lead her to strike down an opponent that easily outclassed her. Not trying to overpower it, not doing whatever was necessary to become stronger than the feared thing. Being afraid, powerless, and fighting anyway.
* The cast wears street clothes tat are different than their trademark outfits while hanging out in Maka's and Soul's apartment. This could only mean that those punkish and borderline Stripperiffic outfits are in fact their school uniforms. Soul Eater Not! Chapter 4 has Maka confirm that while there is a uniform, casual clothes are permitted and any top can be mixed with any bottom with a massive range of official clothes to boot.
* Taken one way, the anime ending is this. After being shown that no amount of power is enough to destroy Asura, Maka uses her Determinator status to invalidate his entire existence, causing him to destroy himself.
* Why doesn't Medusa wear shoes? Snakes don't have feet!
* In Chapter 99, it shows the first demon weapon being made. Flying Calibur, Karate Calibur, so on. But the one that worked in the end? Soul Calibur. Well Played, Atsushi Okubo, well played.
* A combination of Brilliance and Horror, perhaps, for Ch. 108: It is revealed that Asura and Kid are fragments/'sons' of Shinigami, having taken on certain aspects of his nature. It brings another new interpretation to Shinigami's vague answer (way back in Ch. 14) about the "Kishin closest to us" involving "two sides of the same coin". While probably not intended as direct foreshadowing, it is certainly very appropriate in hindsight.
* If you look at Stein's house in the anime the trees outside and the markings on the floor resemble arrows. And who uses a lot of arrow symbolism? Medusa. It's subtle visual foreshadowing of their connection.
* There was actually a huge clue that Asura was an offspring of Shinigami like Kid right from the beginning. Asura's hair has those weird eye designs in it. Those designs are made up of vertical white lines with black breaking them up. Like Kid he has odd white designs in his mostly black hair. THOSE ARE ASURA'S SANZU LINES!
* A sort of maybe-accidental NumerologicalMotif is going on with Kid and the sisters.
** 1 is the number of the individual and primal power, fitting for a fragment of Law OR for the son of Death, and also represents the Ace, the strongest card in the deck, and Kid is (at least at the beginning) explicitly the strongest of the main characters (his mental issues are what keep him closer to their level). It is also the number of isolation, and Kid is very much set apart from everyone else by his nature (both metaphysical and psychological).
** 2 is the number of duality and balance, fitting for the sisters, who balance each other by being respectively extremely mature and aware of danger (Liz) and extremely childish and carefree (Patty). It also represent the cosmic force of balance, very appropriate given Kid's neuroses.
** 3 is the number of stability (the triangle is the most stable basic shape), and power. The three of them together are far more stable than they are apart, and complement each other to form a very solid power structure. In fact, when their relationship is first described in-series, they are represented by a triangle of mutual admiration.
** 4 is the number of death in Eastern traditions, fitting well with Kid as the son of Death. It can also represent the apocalypse (which Kid almost decided to bring about), or the four cardinal directions and a grounding in reality, which he desperately needs and which the sisters help provide.
* Ragnarok being an Expy of Ansem's Guardian is ironic considering that in VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI, Ragnarok was the name of the most effective technique to counter Ansem's Guardian.
* Blair is an anti-witch. Regular witches are humans with strong magical powers and the ability to transform into animals. Blair, by contrast, is a cat with strong magical powers and the ability to transform into a human. Witches, with few exceptions, are AlwaysChaoticEvil, while Blair is ChaoticGood.
* In chapter 113, we find out that Marie is pregnant with Stein's baby. It's sweet, but doesn't it kinda just come out of nowhere? Perhaps, but remember a little while ago; Stein and Marie were hunting down Joe's killer for a while and when they come back from fighting him, Spirit accuses them of having "fooled around on their honeymoon". Marie denies it, and then in the epilogue she's carrying Stein's baby. Coincidence?
* Spirit's attitude toward Soul is less about Spirit being a HelicopterParents and more about the fact that he's terrified by how much Soul is like him.
* Most people were annoyed at Black Star's dub voice at first and likely still are; but then you realize that like the Japanese version, he sounds very similar to Manga/Naruto!
* Ragnarok's name–Ragnarök in Norse mythology means "twilight of the gods," and refers to the great war that will take place between the gods and demons/giants. Both Asura and Shinigami are referred to as gods, and given that Crona was raised by Medusa to kill both, Ragnarok's name is very fitting. Taking Norse symbolism further (this time with Asura as a demon), most of the gods are destined to die as a result of Ragnarök, with the major gods' children being the only survivors. Shinigami dies and is replaced by Kid, while Asura, also Shinigami's child, is technically still alive, though defeated forever.
* Dunno if this is mentioned within the series itself, but "DEATH THE KID" (in all caps) is comprised entirely of symmetrical letters.
* Some fans complain about Medusa wielding a Vector Blade towards the end of the anime, when it was never used before in the anime and does not exist in the manga. But if you think about it, it makes sense that Medusa would know how to fight with a sword - who else would have taught Crona?
* Medusa using fear and threats of imminent murder to keep Eruka and the Mizune sisters under her thumb gets a layer of brilliance when you remember their AnimalMotifs: Medusa is a snake. Eruka and the Mizune are a frog and some mice respectively. Snakes like to eat frogs and mice.
* A Fridge Heartwarming that's noted in the GeniusBonus entry on the YMMV page. When Kid has to contact Lord Death-his father-he performs specific signs with his hands. The one he finishes with is American sign language for "I love you." As eccentric as Lord Death is, Kid still loves his dad.
* Excalibur's absurdly long list of demands to be fulfilled in order to let you wield him is to ensure that his Meister has the patience and mental fortitude to withstand soul resonance with The Madness of Rage.
* Of course Blair has no issue being naked in front of others, she's an animal. She probably had to make a conscious effort to learn to wear clothes as often as she does.
* Why does Blair enjoy bathing so much? Cats are known for being obsessed with grooming.

* Ragnarok. It took a while for this troper to realize that for him to be implanted in Crona, Medusa had to force him into weapon mode, melt him down into a liquid, and mix him with the black blood. It's no wonder he's a sociopathic bully- if anything, he should be a mindless, gibbering wreck. Don't forget that before putting the black blood into Crona, Medusa had to drain all of Crona's normal blood. Considering Crona was shown in a flashback to already have Ragnarok when they were like five...let's just say Medusa is a horrible mother.
* The Anime/SoulEater anime ending. "I see, so courage is just like madness."
* Death The Kid going insane in the Manga. Sure he returns to normal thanks to Black Star. But, think about it for a minute. He wanted to destroy all of existence just to create perfect symmetry in the form of nothingness. In other words, he's worse than the Kishin himself when he goes insane. By extension, the fact this is what a young god/Anthropomorphic Personification tried to do when manipulated. Perhaps it's a good thing there's only a couple of the Great Old Ones left?
* Tsubaki had to eat her brother's soul in order to gain his Enchanted Sword ability.
* Remember that lovely little thing we were told about Shinigami-sama tearing Asura's skin off and sealing him underground? Yeah, as of chapter 108 of the manga, it turns out that Asura is actually Shinigami's son. So Shinigami did that to his own child, and flaying someone is considered to be one of the most painful ways to torture. Great parenting here Shinigami!
* As someone pointed out on the Nightmare Fuel page, consider Spirit's talk of the bond between parents and children. He's presenting it as the reason why he and Maka's souls resonate - to the horror of Crona, who killed their mother - but the suggestion that breaking the bond between souls is somehow unnatural can equally be applied to Shinigami, Asura, and ultimately (inadvertently) even Kid.
* As of chapter 112, Crona used their own Black Blood to seal Asura with the Brew Tempest. This was used along with Maka and Soul's. When Maka returns outside, we see that her dress is now white, suggesting neither she nor Soul have the black blood any more, which means Crona wouldn't either. In other words, Crona sacrificed not themself, but something just as valuable to a meister -- their weapon. So whatever may have remained of Ragnarok is no more. And with him, Crona has lost their way of fighting the fear (the soul-eater). On the one hand, it shows Crona's accepting fear rather than rejecting/attacking anything they can't 'deal with'. On the other hand, it seems they are now alone with 'fear itself', Asura.
* Chapter 113 revealed that Marie is pregnant with Stein as the father. While it is a good thing Mabaa saved them all from being trapped, it's a bit unnerving when you realized a woman with her unborn child still in the womb may have been trapped on the moon and end up dying.
* Kid as an Anthropomorphic Personification/Humanoid Abomination. Given what it took to merely imprison Asura (), what happens if he ever goes 'Mad' again? If his friends can't, or aren't available to talk/beat some sense into him?
* Vajra suffered quite a horrible fate too. He was swallowed by his meister while in weapon form, presumably still alive, and trapped within Asura for 800 years. Is he even still alive after all that?
* Though cloaked in euphemisms such as just saying they were going to "disappear" in Episode 21/Chapter 19, and "would have thrown away this wretched body" in the Moon Arc of the manga, it's clear what Crona might have done to themself if Maka hadn't befriended them.

* Hard to catch, but at the end of the Medusa arc we see the kids dressed in casual gear playing basketball. Death the Kid is wearing a polo shirt...that isn't symmetrical.
* Giriko is 800 years old, and while he's changed some, it's likely his weapon form hasn't changed, given that he's remained a chainsaw through one transformation. In Chapter 77, Giriko calls the chainsaw a traditional weapon. This would mean that chainsaws were popular as weapons (at least in fiction) 800 years ago. When the Soul Eater manga/anime is roughly present-day. Given the revelations in Manga/FireForce, it's likely knowledge of them was retained after the world was destroyed and remade.
