[[AC: General]]
* China's decision to make a spell (or whatever) that prompts everyone to fall in love with her makes a lot more sense when we [[AllLoveIsUnrequited find out about her romantic history.]]
* Lord Vile's name absolutely drips with ObviouslyEvil to the point of being a cliché EvilOverlord name. [[spoiler: Then you remember he's Skulduggery's SuperpoweredEvilSide created by his rage and hate. Lord Vile was the name he took to bury Skulduggery Pleasant, but deep down, Skulduggery was still a part of him. He took such an ObviouslyEvil name to reflect what he knew deep down he had become: a monster.]]
[[AC: Phase 1]]
* The hallways that the Torment chases Valkyrie and Skulduggery through in ''Playing With Fire'' are the same kind that provides an escape hatch in the ''Faceless Ones''!
* In the first book, Skulduggery says he could be a figment of his own imagination. Later on in the series, he points out that Valkyrie could be [[spoiler: Darquesse's]] good mood. In Death Bringer, he is revealed to be [[spoiler: Lord Vile]] in the same way Valkyrie is [[spoiler: Darquesse]].
* When Skulduggery goes [[spoiler: SuperpoweredEvilSide]], he stops being so ''pleasant'' and starts being more [[spoiler: ''vile'']].
* When Tanith walked into his house, Fergus was gaping like an idiot. [[spoiler: He has met/seen China, so what says he hasn't met/seen Tanith? Possibly years before the twins were born and Tanith still looks young as she was.]]
* I've just realised what makes Lord Vile such a ridiculously powerful Necromancer. [[spoiler: He's a dead thing using death magic!]] Which, as we see in Mortal Coil, is not good news.
* I just noticed that Death Bringer, the book title, could refer to [[spoiler: Melancholia, Valkyrie or Lord Vile! Since all three of them show up in the climax, and all three are candidates for the mantle of Death Bringer.]]
* Somewhere in between Fridge Heartwarming and Fridge Tearjerker, but Anton Shudder's "I prefer hugs" comment in "Last Stand of Dead Men" makes a lot more sense if you think about Larrikin's failed attempt to hug him in the backstory.
[[AC: Phase 2]]
* Cadaverous Gant [[spoiler: hijacking the Midnight Hotel]] in "Midnight" is actually a logical evolution of his inherent power. "Dying of the Light" establishes that he's invincible in his own home and the [[spoiler: Midnight Hotel]] amplifies that, [[spoiler: turning it into a MentalWorld where Cadeverous is basically a god. And because Anton Shudder was killed years ago, he'd have no decent opposition to stop him from taking it for himself.]]
* While Luke Skywalker's name is used as a joke about revolving his name being based off a copyrighted character, it's also funnier when you remember that at the time "Seasons of War" was released, ''Franchise/StarWars'' was owned by Disney, who are [[ScrewedByTheLawyers infamous for their aggressive protection]] of their I.Ps. [[note]]To the point where the Copyright Term Extension Act is nicknamed the Mickey Mouse Protection Act, because of Disney's lobbying to ensure that their mascot doesn't end up in the public domain.[[/note]]
* In "Seasons of War", despite the Leibniz universe being one [[spoiler: where Mevolent won]], things still went badly for him. Serpine was only ever in it for himself and defected as soon as better opportunities presented themselves, Baron Vengeous ended up dead due to blind loyalty and Lord Vile is the reason why Mevolent wanted to invade the prime universe (aside from reuniting with Serafina Dey) [[spoiler: due to his true loyalties to the Viddu De, helping them in their quest to kill everything.]]
* It makes complete sense why [[spoiler: Alice would be TheDragon to Damocles Creed in the BadFuture 72 years later during "Dead Or Alive" For starters, Valkyrie put her soul fragments back together in "Midnight", allowing her to feel the full range of emotions needed to be efficient at her job and secondly, she and Valkyrie would have the same DNA, allowing Alice to serve as a replacement Child of the Faceless Ones should Valkyrie die or choose to reject the plan.]]
** Why does [[spoiler: Cadaver Cain lack the ability to turn into Lord Vile despite being Skulduggery's future self?]] Because during "Seasons of War", [[spoiler: Leibniz!Lord Vile absorbed all of Skulduggery's darkness and was eventually killed, meaning that prime Lord Vile was KilledOffForReal. At this point, the only power he had left was the ability to see all futures and even that was taken away from him at the end of "Dead or Alive".]]
** Lord Vile being able to [[spoiler: see all possible futures does explain why he was the strongest of Mevolent's generals. In addition to being a dead-man using necromancy -amplifying his natural power-, his necromancy object being his armour giving him a sturdy defence and being able to effectively counter anything thrown at him due to his future vision. When Skulduggery rejoined the war, Mevolent lost his strongest warrior and therefore lost his best means to destroy any resistance against him.]]
* The Viddu De being a [[TheOldGods race of dead gods]] who [[EvilVsEvil want to spite the]] [[GodIsEvil Faceless Ones]] by [[OmnicidalManiac turning the universe into a death field]] makes a lot of sense if you see the Faceless Ones as a metaphor for Abrahamic religions (such as Christianity), and the Viddu De as religions that were trampled on and demonized such as Paganism, Gnosticism and other obscure religions that were once openly worshipped.
* The reason why Crepuscular Vies is such a flexible character in terms of roles and personality? [[spoiler:Aside from his mother raising him to be an [[AllYourPowersCombined engine of destruction]] who uses the souls of his [[EmptyShell 20 siblings]] to bring about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt]], one of his names is Fregoli Cleft, named after a delusional belief that different people are a singular individual who changes appearance or disguises themselves.
* Cadaver Cain and Crepuscular Vies's [[spoiler: partnership in Phase 2's finale]] makes sense when you remember that both of them serve as dark mirrors to Skulduggery and that unlike [[{{Trumplica}} Martin Flanery]], who has no personal ties to the skeleton detective, Cadaver and Crepuscular are from Skulduggery's [[FutureMeScaresMe future]] and [[EvilFormerFriend past]] respectively and as such are the only antagonists left who can actually challenge him on a somewhat even footing.
* It would seem sudden if not jarring to read that [[spoiler:Obsidian had destroyed most of the universe and that only Earth was left during the final parts of "Until the End". Then you remember that the last time that Obsidian was mentioned was several chapters ago and was nearly killed by Creed using bullets made from the Void Meteorite. The time between those two events is more than enough time for Obsidian to recover his strength by [[OmnicidalManiac ending the rest of the universe]] first before killing off everyone else.]]
** Additionally, [[OmnicidalManiac Obsidian]] being stopped by Darquesse also has another layer to it. Both Darquesse and Obsidian were [[FallenHero originally heroes of their stories corrupted by darkness]], with their closest companion refusing to give up on them, and both were destined to bring about the end of the world only to be averted. In other words, it can be said that Valkyrie has already been there, and that Darquesse's willingness to save the universe also works to assure Auger that he isn't alone.

[[AC: Phase 1]]
* Well, more like Fridge Depression. "I wonder if Ghastly [[spoiler: still made those steaks?"]] is probably the most depressing thing you can utter in the fandom.
* [[spoiler: The Remnant possessing Tanith as of the end of ''Mortal Coil'' is the same one that nailed her to the chain in ''Dark Days''.]]
* In "Mortal Coil", Valkyrie [[spoiler: makes the smart decision to seal her True Name, knowing that she could be controlled if someone were to find out that she's Darquesse.]] However if she had been controlled, who knows how much damage [[spoiler: Darquesse]] would've done to the world?
** If possessing Clarabelle caused the Remnant to go insane and [[spoiler: kill Kenspeckle Grouse]], then what goes on inside Clarabelle's mind to cause such a thing?
* [[spoiler: Melancholia is an induced coma at the mercy of Doctor Nye.]] FateWorseThanDeath, much?
* [[spoiler: During Moore's fight with Valkyrie he at some point throws her on her bed. If you read the next part slowly, it reads as if Moore tried to ''rape'' her]]
* [[spoiler: Moore nearly killed Valkyrie. Baby Alison was in the house.]] ''[[MuggingTheMonster Now think about what would have happened if he had set off Darquesse.]]'' Sweet dreams people.
* On the other hand, there is something terrifying in the fact that a mere {{Muggle}} came so close to killing a powerful witch. Imagine somebody without [[spoiler: Reflection and Darquesse]] at her disposal.
* [[spoiler: Remnant!Tanith has access to Kenspeckle Grouse's memories. She knows how to build Desolation Engines.]]
* [[spoiler: In Kingdom of the Wicked, Kitana and her cronies were all in full view when Skulduggery turned into Vile and Val turned into Darquesse for the end fight. If the three of them knew the significance of Vile and Darquesse, they could identify them and report them to a more well-informed mage.]]
* More like Fridge {{Squick}}, but in the first book Stephanie keeps her underwear on the floor! That's decidedly unhygienic!
* Go back and [[RewatchBonus re-read]] the first few books and see how many times the phrase "like a voice in my head" pops up, or when times when the narration seems to speak to Valkyrie. [[spoiler: [[EarlyBirdCameo Darquesse has been showing up since book 1.]]]]
** However, ''The Dying of the Light'' reveals that [[spoiler: the mysterious voice in Valkyrie's head may not necessarily be connected to Darquesse.]]
[[AC: Phase 2]]
* During "Resurrection", Smoke manages to [[spoiler: corrupt Skulduggery with his touch.]] Smoke's corruption powers retain the victim's personality but strips them of their morals and makes them obedient to him. So, when [[spoiler: Smokeduggery]] admits to Valkyrie that he's always wanted to kill her, how much of that is Smoke's influence and how much of that [[spoiler: Skulduggery]] himself?
* While it is great that [[spoiler:Darquesse managed to reconstruct the universe after Obsidian wiped it all out, it is mentioned that Darquesse resurrected the dead and that the sorcerers who died at mortal hands remember what it was like to die. It's already confirmed that Crepuscular Vies and Cadaver Cain are still alive even in the new universe, so is there anyone else? Was the main Neferian Serpine brought back as well? Were Billy Ray Sanguine and several other past antagonists resurrected as well? And in addition, will Phase 3 introduce the Order of the Ancients and the Soldiers of Magic, both of whom who will want revenge on Martian Flanery and other mortals for killing them during the Shalgoth outbreak?]]

!!FridgeLogic:
* Fletcher can teleport anywhere he's been. He demonstrates the ability to teleport into the ocean at the end of Book 4. [[spoiler:So why the hell didn't he just teleport Dusk there and turn the fight into a CurbStompBattle?]]
** Maybe because [[spoiler: Dusk is so freaking awesome he'd kill Fletcher in the second it took them to teleport]]?
** The thing is that in the fight [[spoiler:Fletcher DOES teleport him. They just return with Fletcher unconscious and Dusk none the worse for wear. It still stands to reason that Fletcher could have killed him by taking him to the ocean.]]
** Also, remember that we're talking about the third book, pre-[[TookALevelInBadass Level In Badass]]. When he got scared, he teleported at the most 12 feet away, to the bathroom, and this was just after[[spoiler: he opened the gate to the Faceless One's world]], so he's bound to be tired on top of terrified.
** To clarify, the scene referred to is the fight at the football stadium in book four. To reiterate - he teleports somewhere undescribed and gets his ass handed to him, and yet mere minutes later he teleports [[spoiler:the bomb]] ''out in the ocean''. The fact remains that the series would be lacking a recurring villain rather quickly if Fletcher had remembered he could do that a little sooner.
** Maybe Fletcher didn't know [[spoiler:salt water kills vampires]]. Or he just can't always think on his feet.
** Wait a moment, didn't they end up teleporting ''back'' after their fight? How the hell did they manage that if Fletcher was unconscious, I'd like to know?
*** Maybe Dusk knocked him out partway through the teleportation. Or forced Fletcher to bring them back and then knocked him out.
* Also, If Valkyrie's coat is impenetrable, how was the fabric cut to make the coat?
** Her coat isn't impenetrable. It's magically enhanced, yeah, but not made out of metal or anything.
* Why do all the necromancers use such [[AwesomeButImpractical impractical things]] as their focus objects? They're powerless without them, and yet Valkyrie's the only one with enough sense to use something small, portable and inconspicuous. It's outright stated that [[spoiler:the necromancers in the airport failed so badly because their focus objects were all in their luggage.]]
** It's implied that the object you place your magic in influences the way you can fight with it. Take Viles armor for example. It's not only a powerful weapon, but also an almost inpenetratable defense. Another necromancer used a flintlock pistol and shot shadow bullets with it. Using a small object might make for better concealment, but wouldn't be suited to the persons fighting style.
* Returning to a previous point, why actually a ring, that can be easily misplaced or snatched? Why not, say, a collar or a steel bracelet? Why not an item that is implanted into the body?
** Maybe its a Necromancer thing. They don't usually leave their temple during their training years, so combat and concealment shouldn't be an issue. Maybe everyone gets a ring to start with, and after their surge they figure out what works best for them. And the Necromancers are very concerned with their image, they are pretty much required to be ''scary'' and traditional, implanted objects might just not be a thing that is done.
* How comes it is '''still''' so hard for Valkyrie to use her ElementalPowers? In Book 6, she is attacked by Moore and cannot use it! At some point she even has time to rummage through her clothes for the necromancer ring, but still cannot concentrate enought for a fireball!
** Valkyrie is notorious for not practicing her skills like she should, and being over confident about it. She also has a bit of a problem with panicking in a fight—desperately rummaging for a ring doesn't require any concentration at all, but sending out a fireball does. [[FridgeBrilliance That's actually why she favors necromancy, because she's able to use it more as a blunt weapon while elemental magic needs some thought put into it.]] Besides which, she's practicing two different schools of magic, which divides her focus somewhat. And, many of the characters that display powerful magic skills have very long lifespans to practice from—maybe magic is just really hard to learn.
*** I'm pretty sure it's mentioned somewhere that Elemental magic '''does''' take at least a lifetime to become competent in, and in the first book Skulduggery says that most sorcerers choose Adept magic because "it's more immediately powerful." Skulduggery had absolutely nothing else to do except practise magic (well, and be tortured) when he was [[spoiler: in the Faceless Ones' dimension]] and it still took him about a year to learn how to fly.
** Necromancy also has been noted to come very easy to Val, and she likes to fight the quick and dirty way, using the easiest methods at her disposal.
