''The Singles 2nd Ward'' is a 2007 romantic comedy produced by [[MediaNotes/MormonCinema Halestorm Entertainment]]. It is the sequel to ''Film/TheSinglesWard'', this time following the BYU professor Dallen Martin as he falls in love with the new girl in his LDS congregation, Christine [=McClintock=]. Meanwhile, Jonathan Jordan from the previous film returns to Utah to shoot a film based off of his previous experiences. The film's main conflict revolves around the CultureClash created by Dallen's family, who are devout Mormons, and Christine's rich parents.

!!''The Singles 2nd Ward'' provides examples of:

* AccidentalMisnaming: Jack can't ever seem to remember Dallen's name, calling him "Darren" or "Deiter".
* ActorAllusion:
** Dallen is played by Kirby Heyborne, the main character of ''Film/TheRM'', which is referenced when he meets Jonathan.
---> '''Dallen:''' Oh, I had this dream, about you and I. I had just got home from my mission, and you were, like, this super-bad influence on me. I had long hair and, like, this dog bit me, and I fell into the pool. We were in jail. It was crazy. You should make it into a movie.\
'''Jonathan:''' That probably wouldn't work.
** Kirby also plays Sam in ''The Book of Mormon Movie'', and Dallen points at Kirby's character on a movie poster during a date with Christine.
** Two of the Hyrum's kids cause the toilet to overflow, like they inherited this from Michael Birkeland's character in ''Film/TheHomeTeachers''.
* AmateurFilmMakingPlot: Jonathan makes a low-budget film based on his experiences in ''Film/TheSinglesWard''.
* BadBadActing: Jonathan is shooting his own version of the previous film, which is much more low-budget. Actor!Cammie has running mascara to show they're crying, and they mangle their lines.
* TheBigDamnKiss: Jonathan and Christine [[spoiler:after Jonathan sorts out how her parents will deal with not attending their child's wedding]]. Happens again when they get married.
* CallBack: It has quite a few references to the first film.
** The first scene is a shot-for-shot remake of the first film's beginning.
** Jonathan (who is driving with Hyrum and Jack in a black Beetle) picks up Dallen and Eldon. The scene is reminiscent to one at the end of the first film, and Eldon remarks that "this is oddly familiar."
** The sequence of Dallen preparing for his wedding is similar to him preparing for his mission in the first film.
** The scene where Dallen and Christine overlook Salt Lake City is almost identical to the one in the first film with Jonathan and Cammie. Jonathan pops up and lampshades this.
---> '''Jonathan:''' That's so romantic, why are you saying my lines, dream boat?\
'''Dallen:''' What are you doin' here?\
'''Jonathan:''' We're shooting the scene for my film. The sitting, looking over the city, romantic, uh romantic scene.
** Hyrum spikes the punch with Mountain Dew, like what Jonathan did in the first movie. Eldon says he "heard he even had a little help from the Three Nephites," to which Hyrum replies "Seriously?", a call-back to a RunningGag.
* {{Catchphrase}}: Jeffrey's idea for a great wedding is "lasers".
* ContinuityNod: Dallen has an Idaho flag in his room to acknowledge he served in Boise, Idaho.
* CreatorCameo: Kurt Hale and Dave Hunter appear as the director and producer for Jonathan's movie.
* CultureClash: Christine's family (who aren't Mormon) go to heavily Mormon Utah. They want to schedule a large fancy wedding, but Jonathan want's a nice simple one. They also don't understand at first why they can't attend the wedding ceremony in the temple.
* DeadpanSnarker: Jonathan.
--> '''Dallen:''' Can I ask you a serious question?\
'''Jonathan:''' No, I was released as a bishop two years ago and I will never answer another serious question again. [''{{Beat}}''] Yes, you may.
* DoesThisMakeMeLookFat: Hyrum says this when he's trying on a suit, to which Jonathan replies, "you make you look fat."
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Dallen lets Jack (aka Stone) take the wheel, who goes crazy and hits a Reserved Parking sign while parking.
* EasyEvangelism: Subverted in a story Dallen tells to his class about a missionary who survives a plane crash with a makeshift parachute and lands on an island in the Pacific. His GenreSavvy students guesses that the missionary baptized the whole island or baptized one important native. Dallen says the natives were deaf so he couldn't teach any of them.
* FallingInLoveMontage: Lampshaded. Dallen and Christine get one.
-->'''Dallen:''' I have never been as happy as I have been in these past two days since we met.\
'''Christine:''' I know. It feels like...one big montage.
* FamilyThemeNaming:
** Dallen sister [=McCall=] has kids named [=McKenna=], [=McKayla=], [=McKenzie=], and she's pregnant with a boy they're planning on naming [=McCabe=]. [=McCall=] explains this to Dorothy, who replies, "[=McFun=]".
** Hyrum's kids are named after important figures in early church history: Joseph Jr. (Joseph Smith), Joseph Sr. (Joseph Smith's dad), Eliza (R. Snow), Emma (Smith), and Parley (P. Pratt).
* FootsieUnderTheTable: Zak and Tiffany play footsie while everyone else is arguing during lunch.
* FourthDateMarriage: Dallen and Christine get engaged after ''two days'' of dating.
* FourthWallObserver:
** Christine talks directly to the audience throughout the film.
** Jonathan reprises this role at the end of the movie when he says the third movie will be call ''The Family Ward''.
%% * Getting Crap Past The Radar: Due to overwhelming and persistent misuse, GCPTR is on-page examples only until 01 June 2021. If you are reading this in the future, please check the trope page to make sure your example fits the current definition.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: Dallen and Zak attend church.
--> '''Zak:''' I guarantee everyone is talking about me..\
'''Dallen:''' Nobody is talking about you.\
'''Bishop:''' Zak, hey, we were just talking about you.
* IShouldWriteABookAboutThis:
** Jonathan makes a film based on his experiences in ''Film/TheSinglesWard''.
** A sequel is discussed during the wedding reception.
---> '''Eldon:''' So Jonathan, you just made a movie about your life in the singles ward, maybe your next movie should be about Dallen and Christine.
* KissOfLife: Christine jokingly flips over Dallen when he's floating in a pool, but it looks like he doesn't know how to swim. She brings him out of the pool and kisses him, and he opens his eyes.
* LettingTheAirOutOfTheBand: Happens to the music when Zak's fiance [[RunawayBride bails on the wedding]].
* LostLoveMontage: After Christine tells her parents they won't be able to attend the wedding ceremony, Dallen is given a montage in which he decides that the wedding can't proceed to avoid tearing apart Christine's family.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Dallen sees Christine at church and starts clapping (which never really happens during LDS church meetings).
* SoundtrackDissonance: The FallingInLoveMontage is accompanied by a song about how nothing lasts forever, even though Mormons believe love and family relationships can last forever.
* MayDecemberRomance: Between Christine's mom Dorothy and her new spouse Harry.
* NoAnimalsWereHarmed: "No animals were hurt in the making of this film...in fact there were no animals in the making of this film (and we probably wouldn't have hurt them anyway)."
* NoisyShutUp: Christine's mother and Jack get into an argument with Dallen's parents. Other family members start singing "Love at Home". Dallen snaps, telling everyone to just shut up.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: Christine's parents are very rich and have different expectations for their daughter's wedding.
* ProductPlacement: Red Bull is a sponsor, so their products make some appearances.
* RuleOfFunny: Instead of going up to Christine's apartment to talk to her, Dallen throws stuff at her apartment, like a rock (which knocks down a rain gutter) and a tree branch (which breaks a window).
** Which was followed by two police officers arriving and (after a brief explanation from Dallen) shout Christine's name. Her two roomates arrive at the window, tell the three guys to shut up, which the police respond to by DRAWING THEIR GUNS. Then one officer offers a stick.
* RunawayBride: Zak's fiance Kate runs away from her temple wedding.
* SequelHook: Hyrum suggests to Jonathan to make another movie based on Zak and Tiffany's story, and later Jonathan says the sequel will be called ''The Family Ward''.
* SerialSpouse: Christine's mother Dorothy has been divorced multiple times.
* ShoutOut: During the wedding reception:
--> '''Eldon:''' So Jonathan, you just made a movie about your life in the singles ward, [[IShouldWriteABookAboutThis maybe your next movie should be about Dallen and Christine]].\
'''Jonathan:''' Yeah, except that film franchises are [[RuleOfThree usually built on three movies]].\
'''Hyrum:''' What about Zak and Tiffany?\
'''Eldon:''' ''Zak and Tiffany: Volume 1: The Journey''.[[note]]Parodies ''The Book of Mormon: Volume 1: The Journey''[[/note]]\
'''Jonathan:''' ''Zak and Tiffany: Film/StatesOfGrace''.\
'''Hyrum:''' ''[[Film/TheOtherSideOfHeaven The Other Side of]] Zak and Tiffany'', rated PG.
* SurprisinglySuddenDeath: [[spoiler:Harry dies after Dallen give his NoisyShutUp, apparently because of old age.]]
* TakeThatCritics: Given to movie critics in general.
--> '''Jack:''' I had an old college roommate that tried his hand at Hollywood. But with one rejection after another, he finally left, seething with bitterness for those who had found their success.
--> '''Dallen:''' What did he wind up doing?
--> '''Jack:''' Movie critic.
* TeacherStudentRomance: Christine is one of Dallen's students in his college class. When they start dating, Christine wonders if it's okay for a teacher to ask a student out, and Dallen suggests that she could drop his class.
* ThisIsAWorkOfFiction: "While the characters and events depicted in this photoplay may seem real, they are fictitious, any similarity to actual persons stinks for them, but is purely coincidental."
