!!Tropes in ''Sons of Provo'':

* AccidentalMisnaming: A RunningGag for Kirby, who gets called names like Curly, Kermit, and Kerwin.
* {{Angrish}}: Grayson storms out of an Everclean performance enraged by the band's hypocrisy, venting incoherently.
* BraggingThemeTune: "Spiritchal as Me" is a song where the singer brags about how spiritual he is.
* CoverInnocentEyesAndEars: A woman covers her son's ears while Grayson goes on a GoshDangItToHeck rant against Will.
* ElvisImpersonator: One auditions for a role in the band.
* FoodSongsAreFunny:
** "Words of Wizzum" extols the virtues of keeping a very orthodox interpretation of the Word of Wisdom.
** "Nourish and Strengthen Our Bodies" is a song about blessing food, using an oft-spoken line that Mormons use in prayers.
* FourthDateMarriage: "Love Me, but Don't Show Me" is a song about remaining chaste after a couple gets engaged after being together for two weeks.
* GilliganCut: Danny says that although he loves to compete, he isn't necessarily competitive. Cut to him throwing a tantrum over losing at a board game and mini golf.
* GoodLuckCharm: Kirby treats his CTR ring like one. At one point he loses it just before a big performance, so Jill has a plumber get it out of the pipes.
* GoshDangItToHeck:
** Will fires the band's manager Grayson for saying words like "fetchers", "oh my heck" and "butt" at a wedding.
** Everclean has a couple songs based on this language, titled "Dang, Fetch, Oh My Heck".
* GratuitousSpanish: "Dang, Fetch, Oh My Heck" has a verse in Spanish where Will talks about serving as a missionary in Ecuador.
* HypocriticalHumor: Will fires the band's manager Grayson for saying words like [[GoshDangItToHeck "flip" and "fetch"]]. Grayson later storms out of a concert where the band performs a song filled with these words.
* HypocriticalSinging: The song "Spirichal as Me" is about bragging about how spiritual the singer is.
-->"''I'm so humble and meek, and possessing such heavenly qualities makes me proud.''"
* IAmSong: The song "Everclean" tells what the band's mission is.
* IntercourseWithYou: Inverted with "Love Me, but Don't Show Me", a song about an [[ChastityCouple engaged couple practicing abstinence]].
-->''You know girl, I love you, but I hope you comprehend\
This body is a temple and you don't got no recommend''
* JennysNumber: Will and Danny's audition flyers have the callback number 867-5309.
* {{Mockumentary}}: A parody of BoyBand documentaries.
* NoAnimalsWereHarmed: "No Mormons were harmed in the making of this film."
* PieInTheFace: Everclean's first gig in the movie is at a pioneer festival's pie-throwing booth. They sing "I Forgive You" while children throw pies at them.
* RealMenWearPink: Kirby works at a scrapbook store, and Danny teaches a class of Primary children.
* RunningGag: People introducing Kirby by the [[AccidentalMisnaming wrong name]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: The band performs at a wedding reception, but the scouts are practicing basketball at the same time. Will and Danny abandon their song to vent their frustration at Grayson.
* ShoutOut:
** Yvonne says, "I'm a dancer. I dance. That's what I do," referencing the song "Let Me Dance For You" in ''Theatre/AChorusLine''.
** In a scene where Everclean's sound mixer Larry Leavitt gets interviewed, the computer in the background has a still from ''Saints and Soldiers''.
* TemptingFate: Before the band is about to perform at a fireside, Kirby says he's confident everybody is prepared to sing and dance. During the performance, Will and Danny constantly cut off Kirby's lines.
* TerribleIntervieweesMontage: Will and Danny hold an audition for a new member of their band, including a kid who draws out "Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked", one who treats "You Are My Sunshine" like a rock song, and an ElvisImpersonator.
* ThisIsAWorkOfFiction: The film ends with the disclaimer "Everyone in this film is based on someone the creators know, so if you know the filmmakers at all, you're probably in this film. So sue us."
* VirileStallion: Mentioned offhand in "Love Me, but Don't Show Me"
-->''You make me feel so handsome, like a shining dark stallion\
I love the way you wear your young women's medallion''
* WhatWouldXDo: Danny holds Donny and Marie Osmond as role models, so he has a "What Would [[Series/DonnyAndMarie Donny & Marie]] Do?" poster.

!!Tropes in ''Sons of Provo: Confidential'':

* BleepDammit: The word "heck" is bleeped out when Kirby's mom Reva says it.
* GoshDangItToHeck: The narrator says Everclean tried their "dangedest" to deal with Mormon boy band fame.
* KitschyLocalCommercial: After the band's breakup, Will stars in some local commercials. The movie shows his glass repair commercial, but the DVD also has parody ads for Pioneer Pies and the anti-depressant pill "[=NoniPhedraBiloba=]".
* PieInTheFace: The DVD has a parody commercial where Will promotes Pioneer Pies by getting two pies in the face.
* ShoutOut: Jill compares the band to the cast of ''Series/DiffrentStrokes''.
* SidetrackedByTheAnalogy: The narrator constantly does this, comparing something that happens to the band to something else, and then running with it.
* ToiletSeatDivorce: The band breaks up because Danny throws Arby's sauce (or horsey sauce) on Will.
