Avengers: Endgame is a 2019 superhero film directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, and written by Christopher Markus & Stephen [=McFeely=] -- the creative team behind the second and third Captain America films. It is the direct sequel to Film/AvengersInfinityWar (which this film's directors and writers also worked on), the 22nd film entry of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse, the 10th (and penultimate) film in the MCU's Phase 3, and the end of the Infinity Stones MythArc that began with the first Avengers film in 2012. The film was originally titled Infinity War Part II until Marvel dropped the Part I moniker from the previous film to avoid the impression of a MovieMultipack, largely seen as a response to The Divergent Series attempting a two-parter multipack, only for the second part (Ascendant) to be thrown into DevelopmentHell by the commercial failure of the first part (Allegiant) leaving it untitled until audiences had had time to watch the former Infinity War Part I.

After the cataclysmic events of Thanos's victory, half of the universe's sentient life is gone, and the completed Infinity Gauntlet has disappeared with the Mad Titan to a faraway world. The surviving heroes from Film/2012 and the Film/2014, meanwhile, are left to pick up the pieces of a shattered universe. However, following the arrival of a few new allies, Earth's mightiest heroes discover a means that may allow them to undo Thanos's genocide, and bring back the friends and family lost. And so, along with said allies, the original six Avengers embark on one last mission together to set the world right, whatever it takes.

While this movie was not intended to be the final Avengers movie ever, the three-hour-long film served as the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU thus far since it began with Film/IronMan1 all the way back in 2008, and the last with the original six Avengers serving as the focus. The movie is followed by Film/SpiderManFarFromHome, which serves as an epilogue to the "Infinity Saga", exploring the fallout of Infinity War and Endgame. The first three series of Phase 4 all directly pick up from the events of Endgame, and numerous entries in Phase 4 and 5 continue to focus on characters dealing with the aftermath of the film.

The film was released in theaters on April 26th, 2019, and was re-released on June 28th with an introduction and post-credits featurette introduced by co-director Anthony Russo. The featurette included a tribute to the late Creator/StanLee, a deleted scene featuring The Hulk, and the opening scene from Film/SpiderManFarFromHome.

Plans for development on two sequels, titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, were announced in July 2022. In June 2023, both films' releases were delayed by a year; they are currently slated for May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027, respectively.
