Matt and Jess know next to nothing about what went down that night, and they've sustained enough injuries to land them both in hospital about four times over, and they're forced to survive alone on the mountain with whatever they can scavenge. And they find Josh!! Who not only survives, but has people to reality check for him while they figure out a plan of attack. They stick together fiercely. This feels like a much more realistic outcome than the canonical 'they all live' ending, plus Josh survives so that's a bonus.

It's also a "Josh lives" fic that treats him fairly, despite the shipping rivalry, so if you're a fan of him there'll be something for you too.
