->''"For his entire life, Izuku wanted nothing more than to be a hero. Hearing his Idol say he couldn't do it without a Quirk almost broke him. Yet when put into a situation where even other heroes were almost helpless bystanders, he didn't hesitate. And in doing so, he finally awoke what he had longed for."''

!!This fic contains examples of the following tropes, in addition to those already present in the source material:
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A-D]]
* AccidentalAimingSkills: While thrashing in agony from his ColdBloodedTorture, Aoyama happens to hit the spider villain that Shoji was fighting, allowing the boy to defeat her.
* ActuallyADoombot: Kirishima performs a German suplex on the [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}} at the USJ, only for the man to dissolve into cards. Given the villain's comments, he likely can only use it once.
* TheAce: Izuku quickly proves to be this for 1-A, as he takes the lead in not only the exercises, or with his powerful, versatile Quirk, but also in how he helps the others become far stronger in turn. Indeed, Momo wholeheartedly believes that despite her own formidable intelligence, Creation Quirk, [[spoiler:and being the next wielder of ''One For All,'']] ''Izuku'' is the one who will be the next Number One Pro.
* AdaptationalBadass: Several of the {{mooks}} at the USJ are strong enough to nearly kill the students, as opposed to canon where they amounted to a RedShirtArmy.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance:
** Humarise makes an appearance during the attack on I-Island, nearly a year before canon.
** Miruko debuts during the Sports Festival, months before she would debut in canon.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Unlike canon, David Shield has no idea about the scheme to steal his invention until he has guns shoved into his face. He accepted the board's line of reasoning without issue.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange:
** Uraraka doesn't have to touch herself to change gravity on herself and can increase or decrease gravity rather than just negating it.
** Iida's Quirk is changed from a mutation type to a transformation type and he can create different kinds of engine pipes from any part of his body.
** Rather than firing her horns and controlling them telekinetically, Pony's "Horn Cannon" is her firing a massive laser from between her horns.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Sam from I-Island was greedy in canon, but here it is more extreme. Here, he also has a desire for glory and a feeling that after having worked for David Shield for six years on a project that was now to be discarded would ruin his career.
* AdaptationExpansion:
** Downplayed as it is only a few moments, but the first few paragraphs make it clear ''why'' All Might initially didn't think Izuku had what it took to be a Quirkless hero, and that is that Izuku had done ''nothing'' to mitigate his Quirklessness. He had not physically conditioned himself and rather was trying to coast on just a dream in his head. While your mileage may vary on the validity of these claims, it is a noted difference to other fics that have All Might coming out as a hypocritical jerkass for also being Quirkless until he received One For All.
** The various fights in the USJ attack are given more focus than canon, being significant chunks of a chapter rather than being largely glossed over.
** It's revealed, or at least postulated, that all the seemingly random incidents that All Might had to deal with on his way to U.A. for the USJ training session were '''not''' {{Contrived Coincidence}}s, but rather a masterstroke of a plan to tire him out leaving him unable to stop the League of Villains from attacking.
** Nejire becomes 1-A's teaching assistant, and Mirio becomes 1-B's.
** The Obstacle Course of the Sports Festival is both longer and has more actual obstacles.
* AdaptationNameChange: Several of the hero students get different hero names than canon.
** Kyoka is [[Anime/KillLaKill Symphony Regalia]].
** Sero is Spoolerman.
** Aoyama is the Starlit Hero: Polaris.
** Hagakure is Prism.
** Kaminari is Conduit.
** Shouto is [[Franchise/TheIncredibles Frozone]].
** Since he couldn't come up with an acceptable name, Bakugo is dubbed [[Anime/OnePunchMan Blast]] by Midnight.
** Because his brother hadn't been injured yet, Iida goes by [[Anime/OnePunchMan Jet Drive.]]
** Nirengeki is Double Tap.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul:
** Between Classes 1-A and 1-B. In canon, they only ever interact when competing with each other, during intense training with no real time to interact, or in small groups as part of internships. Here they all meet perfectly cordially on the bus to USJ, and with time to relax and get to know each other, which is enough to start a few friendships. After the brutal fights they would later share together though, [[FireForgedFriendship several close friendships are made under fire]], and later there is a beach party shared by most members of both classes.
** Because Inasa and Itsuka seemed to have hit it off, the ShipTease between her and Tetsutetsu is removed keeping them at friend level.
* AdaptedOut: Neither Rikido nor Mashirao are enrolled in U.A. due to the author finding them uninteresting.
* AdultsAreUseless: Lampshaded by All Might during the attack on I-Island. The heroes are only freed after everyone but Wolfram has been handled and he jokingly tells the students to "Leave the rest to us useless adults".
* AnArmAndALeg: A [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}} also gets his knee completely shattered by a kick from Unbreakable Kirishima.
* AnimalThemedSuperbeing:
** Kanga-chan has a kangaroo-based mutant Quirk.
** Similarly, Boarus is a villain with a boar-based mutant Quirk.
* AntiHumor: During their date, Izuku antis Camie's joke.
-->'''Camie:''' Have you ever heard of updog?\
'''Izuku:''' Not much, how about you?
* ArmorPiercingResponse: Todoroki receives one from Aizawa after the USJ attack when the hero is lambasting him for his actions.
-->'''Shouto:''' I don't need '''his''' fire!\
'''Aizawa:''' Then you don't need to be a hero.
* AssholeVictim: Shigaraki comes to the USJ to torture and murder all the teachers and hero students, leaving them for All Might to find, and to horrify society. There's no sympathy to spare for him when [[LaserGuidedKarma he leaves after missing two limbs, with multiple burns all over the rest of his body]], losing all his pawns including the vaunted Nomu, and having had a full-blown VillainousBreakdown from seeing the rise of a successor to All Might who will continue the hero society.
* AtrociousAlias: Bakugou gives insulting nicknames to his classmates. Said classmates get fed up with his refusal to use their actual names, or at least nicknames that aren't insulting, and respond with their own insulting nicknames for him in kind.
* BadWithTheBone: A villain at the USJ can fire his finger bones like bullets.
* BaitAndSwitch: Multiple.
** Toru performs one on ''herself''. She learns the name of Pony's Quirk and imagines her firing and controlling her cute horns. She gets all excited to see it happen. Cue a WaveMotionGun firing from between her horns like a Cero from [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Hollow Ichigo]].
** Aizawa and Midnight both make out the new teaching assistant to be a demon out for their souls at the end of chapter 8. At the beginning of chapter 9, Class 1-A is all but quaking in their seats, wondering if Aizawa would even bother getting out of his bag to save them. And then Nejire hops in, waving excitedly and making the entire class spit-take at how cute she is.
--->And then a beautiful girl with periwinkle hair hopped in, a bright, beaming smile on her face. "Hiiii!" She waved at them excitedly, "Nice to meet you all! I'm Nejire!"
* BattleCouple: During the final part of the fight against Wolfram, Izuku and Momo work together to obliterate him, including being the two who finish him off (unlike canon where it was All Might helping Izuku).
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Manga gets his Quirk working again just in time to save Kaminari at the USJ, keeping him from falling into the Flood Zone.
** During the attack on I-Island, Momo, Yui, and Kinoko are saved by several of their classmates just as they're about to be overwhelmed by the security bots.
* BlackSheep: Tenya is a {{downplayed|trope}} {{inver|ted trope}}sion in that everyone in his family is a Pro Hero but only he's [[TheComicallySerious serious to a hilarious degree]] that his older brother doesn't know where he got it from.
* BloodKnight: Both Inasa and Blazing-chan love the idea of a good fight, though Inasa loses his enthusiasm when it starts going too far.
* BroughtDownToBadass: When a villain with a light Quirk disables Tokoyami's and Kuroiro's Quirks at the USJ, they still fight off several villains with improvised weapons and hand-to-hand combat.
* BrownNote: Kurogiri's mere presence interferes with Izuku's teleportation and makes him fall to one knee from a migraine.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Izuku lampshades during the Quirk Assessment Tests that almost everyone accomplishes feats that would have broken world records before Quirks existed, even students who don't have physical Quirks.
* ChargedAttack: During the USJ attack, Kaminari is hooked up to the motor of the ship in the Flood Zone, allowing him to fry all the villains present. Then, during I-Island, he gets several chances to do this again.
* TheChosenOne: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with here]], as [[spoiler:Momo could qualify as this after being the chosen successor of One for All, but does not see herself as the successor for All Might; instead, she believes it is Izuku who will fulfill this role]].
* ClothingDamage:
** A non-sexy example comes when Izuku has his leg broken off by the USJ Noumu. After he heals it, his leg and foot are bare from the knee down.
** Another non-sexy example from the same chapter. Momo is left completely topless by the end of the battle but has used up so much of her fat stores that she's visibly emaciated.
** Nejire's very first day interning under Ryuko saw her entire outfit dissolved, forcing her to cover herself up with her hair. Ryuko assured her though that every pro-hero can expect their outfit to be wrecked and leaving them exposed at least once during their career, if not at least once a ''year''. Indeed, not too long after, her own entire outfit was ruined.
* ColdBloodedTorture: At the USJ, Aoyama is forced to overuse his Quirk by a villain who can control muscle contractions.
* ColonyDrop: While fighting Bakugo and Aoyama in an old refinery, Ochako throws crucibles at them by first removing their gravity and then increasing it past normal just before they leave her hands.
* CombatPragmatist:
** Sero and Camie functionally defeat Todoroki during the Heroes vs Villains exercise by using their Quirks to trap him after he goes for an illusionary bomb. Izuku lampshades that Todoroki would win a straight-up fight against them, which is a good motivation for the two ''not'' to engage him in a straight fight.
** Against Nejire, the only students who manage a win are those who managed to blindside her. Those who try a head-on offensive are merely humiliated.
* CombatStilettos: Lampshaded by Melissa, who asks why costume designers keep insisting on giving heroines stilettos and asks how women can fight in them. [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall Momo blames plot armor]].
* ContrivedCoincidence: While (most) of the villains at the USJ are placed in zones where they'll be at their best, the hero students are completely random in their placement. Inasa, Manga, Kaminari, and Mineta are nearly crippled by the zones they land in but Tsuyu, Kuroiro, Kinoko, and Tokoyami are all sent to the ideal zones for their Quirks. When brought up by the group in the Flood Zone, it's eventually decided that it was pure chance who got sent where.
* ConvectionSchmonvection:
** Zigzagged when Momo uses a flamethrower. When she first uses it against the USJ Noumu, she burns herself as she didn't cover herself with fireproof material. Later she designs her materials with fire-proofing in mind so she will not suffer the slightest inconvenience from it.
** Zigzagged with Izuku's Inferno Overdrive. When used at the USJ, it melts pretty much everything nearby, including the ground, and boils part of the lake. Yet it doesn't instantly kill people who are ''far'' closer than the distant lake, something the author says is because it works on a conceptual level rather than just temperature.
* CripplingOverspecialization:
** Toru and Mineta do the worst of everyone during the physical tests due to relying too heavily on their Quirks. Except for Mineta using his balls for the side-hop challenges, the two are among the worst performances on every test. In contrast, some like Camie also have Quirks useless for the tests but still do well through physical conditioning to make up for it.
** Some of the villains at the USJ have very specific Quirks that are only useful against specific students and near useless against anyone else, and none of them have backup skills to fall back on. A villain who shines a bright light like a floodlight cripples Kuroiro's and Tokoyami's Quirks but needs several other villains to protect him from them beating him with improvised weapons. Aoyama is nearly killed by a villain who causes involuntary muscle contractions but is knocked out in one punch by Shoji. Finally, Hydrodynamic and Alkali nearly kill Shouto yet are instantly knocked out by Ibara; on top of that, they only did so well because he refused to use his fire.
** When the General Studies Course students complain about how their Quirks were unsuited against robots, 1-A is quick to point out how they should have trained up their bodies as well, as several members of their class had Quirks unsuited for direct combat.
* CurbStompBattle: Once Izuku actually gets to fight Shigaraki at the USJ, it's completely one-sided. Izuku has plenty of combat training with his Quirk and can fight without it in a pinch. Shigaraki is UnskilledButStrong and has to touch someone with all five fingers to use his Quirk on them, something Izuku can prevent with telekinesis.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The USJ arc gives all of 1-A and 1-B a chance to show off their abilities against villains that were much more dangerous than canon.
* DeadlyDodging: While fighting Leviathan, Camie uses her Quirk to dodge an attack and make it hit Flect instead, managing to both damage his support gear and injure Leviathan with the reflected attack.
* DeathByAdaptation:
** The USJ Nomu. Instead of being taken in alive for questioning, and then studied once it's clear that it's incapable of independent thought, is absolutely incinerated by Izuku.
** Sam from I-Island is shot. Two of the actually named mercenaries are killed as well.
* DeathDealer: An [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}} at the USJ wields cards that he can use to cut through even Kirishima and Kamakiri's Quirks.
* DesperationAttack: Several characters resort to these during the USJ attack.
** Aoyama, who's been subjected to ColdBloodedTorture from being forced to overuse his Quirk, fires off one last shot to take out a villain that was crippling Tokoyami's and Kuroiro's Quirks.
** Inasa has to create an entirely new technique (by compressing air into a tight ball to form a concussive blast) to defeat Blazing-chan as she's too hot for his attacks to otherwise land.
** Bakugo uses his explosive gauntlets to defeat a villain who can absorb the sound of his explosions to fire laser beams.
** Momo utilizes first a Gatling gun firing explosive bullets then a flamethrower filled with napalm against the Nomu. It fully recovers despite Momo almost completely depleting her fat reserves.
** Mina breaks out her most dangerous acid to melt the Nomu. Much like with Momo, the Nomu heals.
** Izuku unleashes his DangerousForbiddenTechnique, [[spoiler:completely incinerating the Nomu and reducing his arm to burnt charcoal]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: In an omake for Chapter 13, Izuku decides to test the implied consequences for simply teleporting to the end of the first event at the Sports Festival. The teachers all cringe as they realize they really should have explicitly banned pulling a DungeonBypass rather than just implying it. [[spoiler:It turns out that the second event begins as soon as someone finishes the first]].
* DoomedDefeatist: Members of Class 1-A mock the General Studies students who basically quit the Entrance Exam the moment their Quirks didn't work on the villain robots, citing that three members of their class either have Quirks that don't work on robots, or are outright Quirkless, yet they all got in using either cleverness or physical power. Camie, one of those without a combat Quirk, flexes her own respectful muscles as she asks if they've even seen the inside of a weight room before.
* DoorStopper: Like Vortex's other fics, this one has a ridiculous word count per chapter, averaging out at roughly 20,000 words per chapter, give or take an additional few dozen from the author's notes. It is, in fact, a contributing factor for the long periods between updates, along with what he considers an uncooperative muse.
* DramaPreservingHandicap: Kurogiri's Quirk prevents Izuku's teleportation from working, keeping him from simply teleporting out of the USJ and alerting the faculty to the attack.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:E-H]]
* ElementalShapeshifter: One villain in the USJ has the ability to turn his body into any material he touches. However, depending on the material, he can't move his joints when transformed.
* EndearinglyDorky: Iida's attempts to act villainous only make Ochako giggle.
* EpicFail: Denki's attempt to flirt with Momo goes right over her head.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: When a villain at the USJ openly considers raping Yui, another one [[FreudianThreat threatens to castrate him]], claiming he didn't sign up to work with a pedophile.
* EveryoneHasStandards: For all that Vlad King himself gets quite competitive with Eraserhead's class, even he is upset with Monoma for taking class rivalry too far by focusing on it in the middle of a life-or-death situation like the USJ Attack.
* EvilIsPetty: One villain at the USJ wants to kill the hero students for getting into UA when he didn't.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: When Kurogiri mocks Izuku for missing with his psychic slash, Izuku corrects him that he was aiming for the USJ door.
* {{Expy}}: Three of the villains at the USJ are heavily based on [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Konan]], [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]], and ComicBook/{{Dazzler}}.
* ExtremeMeleeRevenge: The members of 1-A and 1-B nearby go ballistic on Kurogiri after he attempts a PortalCut on Setsuna.
* FeedItWithFire: Juzo's attempts to stop one villain only make the man larger and stronger as he apparently is fueled by contact with the earth.
* FeelNoPain: The Nomu at USJ showed no reaction to the frankly horrific damage being inflicted upon it.
* FreudianExcuse: Sam's reasoning for stealing David's quirk amplifier is that he's been working for the man for six years and has no inventions or anything to his name because David allowed the one device they ''were'' working on to be locked away.
* FullBoarAction: Boarus, a villain at the USJ, has a boar Quirk.
* GodzillaThreshold: The USJ attack forces several students to go beyond and pull off moves they would normally not use.
** Aoyama fires his Navel Laser even though he's already damaged himself in order to save Kuroiro and Tokoyami.
** Bakugo uses a grenade gauntlet in order to overwhelm the Dazzler expy.
** Mina busts out her most powerful acid - so strong that it completely overwhelms her acid resistance and causes the Noumu's flesh to ''slough off'' - in an attempt to put down the Noumu.
** When that doesn't work, Momo puts everything she has into a minigun with armor piercing and later explosive bullets. And after that stops working, she unleashes a flamethrower, which burns the Noumu - and also her.
** Izuku rips the Noumu to pieces and throws it into water. When that doesn't work, Momo uses her last reserves to create C4, and Izuku throws it into the water, turning the Noumu to LudicrousGibs.
** And when even ''that'' is not enough to put the monster down, Izuku uses [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Inferno Overdrive]], which ''finally'' kills the Noumu by burning it to ashes and then burning the ashes.
* GoodIsNotSoft: The various hero students threaten to kill Kurogiri after he attempts to murder Setsuna. Mina in particular keeps one hand on his metal collar and uses the other to drip some of her more potent acids on the ground next to him. And, during the subsequent fight, many end up using moves that could be brutal or even deadly.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: Itsuka defeats Kanga-chan by hitting her with the absorbing villain.
* GroinAttack:
** When Yui attacks the mercenaries by controlling the room's walls and floor, one of them is mentioned to be hit several times in the jewels.
** One of the modifications done to the Sports Festival is that the Obstacle Course race has a lot more obstacles. This includes the first tunnel having boxing gloves coming from everywhere, including the floor, and one hits Yui in the groin.
* GroupHug: Izuku becomes the target of one from half his class when he first returns to class after the USJ attack [[spoiler:missing his right arm]].
* {{Hammerspace}}: Izuku pulls out a notebook despite his skintight costume having no room for it.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower:
** The PaperMaster villain at the USJ has a ridiculous amount of versatility. From flight to a FlechetteStorm to making a shrapnel bomb, her Quirk is a nightmare to counter if you can't take advantage of her LogicalWeakness, which sadly, her opponents can't.
** Sero does extremely well during the water portion of rescue training as his tape lets him reel in anyone on the lake's surface. While Izuku and Momo get the "drowning" robots to the surface, he's the one who actually pulls them to safety.
* HeroicRROD:
** Three different characters go far beyond their normal limits against the USJ Noumu.
*** Mina creates her most dangerous acid, giving herself terrible acid burns in the process.
*** Momo uses up almost the entirety of her fat stores making first a minigun then a napalm-launching flamethrower and finally a block of C4 for Izuku to use.
*** Izuku takes his Quirk far past the point of PsychicNosebleed and [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique combines his telekinesis and healing flames]] to incinerate the Noumu entirely, albeit at the cost of burning his right arm to a blackened crisp.
* HiddenPurposeTest: Unlike canon where the Zero Pointer is simply [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin worth no points]], here the students are told attacking it will give them an automatic zero on the practical exam. The teachers muse that its real purpose is to see what the applicants will do when facing an enemy where they have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Izuku attacks the Zero Pointer to save Ochako, which earns him the highest score in U.A.'s history when combined with his excellent Villain score.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** During a fun volleyball game, Katsuki tries to get an advantage by using his Quirk. However, the opposing team (including the likes of Izuku, Inasa, Momo, and Itsuka) had Quirks far more suited to the game, causing them to go from "roughly equal" to completely dominating their opponents.
** At I-Island, several of the hacked robots trap Kaminari with their cables. Kaminari uses this connection to drain their batteries and shock them.
** In the same fight, Camie tricks Leviathan into attacking Flect Turn, destroying one of the former's focusing tools while the rest of his attack hits back at him.
* HonorBeforeReason:
** Aizawa's main criticism of Ochako and Iida's actions during the Heroes vs. Villains exercise is that they continued fighting after they'd already guaranteed their victory rather than retreating and letting the hero team search pointlessly until time ran out.
** At the USJ, Todoroki would rather die than use his fire against two villains whose Quirks are a hard counter to his ice, something Hagakure [[WhatTheHellHero slaps him and chews him out over]].
* HopeSpot: Izuku's and Momo's combination attack of sealing the USJ Noumu into a sphere of water and detonating a bomb within reduces the creature to LudicrousGibs. Then it starts healing.
* HormoneAddledTeenager:
** Much more prevalent than in canon, with Setsuna and Mina being the most ardent of the polycule, to the point that Momo had to reign them in before they let Yui in despite not meeting the requirements. (Going out on a date with everyone in said polycule to see if there's any chemistry).
** Mineta is also perverted, far more than Setsuna and Mina, to the point of crossing lines and boundaries. When he proves at the USJ that he can't control himself, he is expelled for it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:I-L]]
* IKnowYouKnowIKnow: When pitted against each other in the Heroes vs Villains exercise, Izuku and Momo spend some time thinking up plans and wondering if the other would know about it. Most pointedly, while wondering where to hide the bomb, Izuku and Mina consider hiding it in the largest building available, only for Izuku to think that's too obvious but then ponder that Momo might know it's too obvious and ignore it. Indeed, Momo and Denki initially scout the other buildings first because they thought using the largest warehouse was too obvious.
* InadequateInheritor: Mirio is recommended by Nighteye and Nedzu as a potential successor to All Might as a wielder of One for All, but All Might is wary of choosing him for several reasons. One is that he is worried Mirio is ''too much'' like him and All Might himself made many mistakes, so he wishes for someone more different from him. Another is that Nedzu himself advises wariness due to the potential of Quirk Incompatibility, which All Might confirms for himself after hearing how Permeation works. All Might also believes Mirio doesn't strictly need the Quirk. Finally, and All Might admits to this being a personal problem, is that he has issues with Nighteye whom he feels is acting as if One for All is for ''Nighteye'' to give away, not All Might himself.
* IncompatibleOrientation: Discussed as a major reason why polycules tend to implode such as the one between Nejire, Mirio, and Yuyu, as Yuyu is exclusively attracted to Nejire only. In order to avoid such things in chapter 9, while Izuku was taking one of the girls on a date, the other girls went on outings with each other to see if there was any form of attraction. Neijire even admits the only reason her own aunt's polycule doesn't implode is that her uncles are HeterosexualLifePartners.
* KansasCityShuffle: During the Heroes vs Villains exercise, Aoyama and Bakugo think Iida is fighting them to keep them from finding the bomb hidden within the refinery but he's actually distracting them long enough for Ochako to sneak it ''out'' of the building.
* LaserBlade: Izuku can channel his psychic power through cloth to create a blade of energy. During the Entrance Exam, he uses his tie and his hero costume has a sash specifically for use to make his psychic blade.
* LogicalWeakness:
** Momo's Quirk lets her create nearly anything, but creating too many objects simply gives Izuku more ammo for his telekinesis. When she tries to trip him up with ball bearings like she did Mina, Izuku simply launches all of them at her like buckshot.
** Toru's invisibility is worthless against Jiro's super hearing. Jiro's own weakness, loud noises drowning out all other sounds, is brought up but she is already trained to overcome it by the time someone tried to utilize it.
** The absorbing villain can't move any joints that are transformed. As such, he quickly takes to only transforming his fists and feet.
** Subverted with Bondo. One villain tries diving underwater to wash his glue off, only to learn the glue isn't water soluble.
** The USJ Noumu is programmed to protect Shigaraki above anything else. Momo keeps it pinned for some time by continuously shooting at Shigaraki.
** Being plants, Ibara's hair vines can't react as quickly in extreme cold. Unfortunately for her, she ends up in the same zone as Todoroki at the USJ and he thinks nothing of freezing half the mountain at once. Also, the ground being frozen makes it almost impossible for her vines to tunnel through the ground.
** One villain can absorb the energy from sound waves to fuel her Quirk, but she's as weak to fire as any normal person, so she keeps dodging to avert it. Bakugo defeats her by firing such a powerful explosion she has no chance of dodging it.
** Shigaraki's Quirk requires he make physical contact with whatever he's trying to decay. At the USJ, Izuku holds him off using telekinesis to keep Shigaraki from touching him.
** Recovery Girl's Quirk uses the target's stamina to heal their injuries. As such, she couldn't heal Izuku after the USJ attack since he had completely exhausted himself, forcing All Might to take Izuku to an actual hospital.
** Hyper Regeneration heals the user back to their default state, but if the user is given the quirk while missing body parts, the quirk won't know to regrow them and will simply heal what's already present, assuming that to be the "default state".
** Because Shinso's quirk only lasts until the target is hurt, he's functionally quirkless in the obstacle course of the Sports Festival as every single student is repeatedly falling or getting hit by something.
* LoopholeAbuse: Ochako secures an automatic win for herself and Iida during the Heroes vs Villains exercise by taking the bomb outside of the building that was the testing site. All Might praises her ingenuity in doing so, [[ObviousRulePatch then says it's no longer allowed in future matches]].
* LudicrousGibs: Trapping the USJ Noumu in a sphere of water and then detonating a bomb inside with it reduces the thing to part of a skull with a bit of spine sticking out. [[OhCrap And then it starts healing]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:M-P]]
* ManOfKryptonite: Several villains at the USJ are near-perfect counters for one or more students. Even if it was not something the villains had planned for.
** A ComicBook/{{Dazzler}} {{expy}} nearly kills Katsuki by absorbing the sounds of his explosions to fuel her Quirk.
** Two villains, Hydrodynamic and Alkali, perfectly counter Todoroki due to his refusal to use his fire. The former can manipulate water to an extent and control the phase state of any water he touches. The latter can create blocks of alkali metals from her body, which explode on contact with water.
** Aoyama is nearly killed by a teenager whose Quirk causes muscle contractions, something that causes Aoyama's Navel Laser to fire uncontrollably when focused on his navel.
** The [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}}'s DeathDealer Quirk perfectly counters Kamakiri's blades and Kirishima's hardening, forcing the latter to unlock his Unbreakable form in order to stop him.
** Downplayed with a villain whose Quirk lets him shine a light like a floodlight. While he completely negates Tokoyami's and Kuroiro's Quirks, he has no combat skills of his own and needs several bodyguards to keep the two from just beating him themselves.
** Komori finds herself up against a boar villain who can counter her mushrooms by eating them.
* MoralMyopia: The [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}} is shocked that Kamakiri would use a lethal attack on him, despite the villain gleefully trying to kill him and Kirishima. Kirishima even lampshades the ridiculousness of such a thing.
* MortonsFork:
** After rescuing Aoyama from a villain at the USJ, Shoji is left with the choice of either leaving him behind to save Tokoyami and Kuroiro or trying to carry the badly injured boy into battle. Luckily, Aoyama provides a third option: having Shoji aim him at the villain crippling their classmates so he can take him out with his Quirk.
** Blazing-chan's SuperMode leaves her too hot for Inasa to approach without getting badly burned. But that same heat keeps his ranged attacks from hitting as he can't keep the heated air from rising. He's forced to invent a new super move in order to win.
* MythologyGag: Momo is able to control how much power she uses with Full Cowling due to her experience with her own Quirk, something canon Izuku mentioned was the reason he didn't realize he was using it incorrectly, as unlike the former, the latter didn't have the near decade of experience of playing with their Quirk.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Momo's and Camie's hero costumes are both unzipped to at least their navels. While Camie likes the look (at least when Mineta isn't leering at her), Momo mentions being somewhat uncomfortable but finding it necessary. With Mineta being expelled, she is more comfortable in taking her shirt off if necessary during spars.
* NeverMyFault: The villain torturing Aoyama at the USJ first kicks him in the stomach after the boy's forcibly activated Quirk nearly hits him then decides to kill the Aoyama because the villain broke his toes kicking his belt.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: The villain attacking Aoyama uses his Quirk to force the latter to fire his Navel Laser. This ends up hitting the villain who is trying to kill Shoji, allowing the latter to knock her out and rescue Aoyama.
* NightmareFace: A villain with a spider Quirk at the USJ is described as having a face not even a mother could love with several red eyes taking up her forehead, a fang-filled mouth that opens vertically, and no nose.
* NotQuiteFlight: Melissa designs short boost jetpacks out of nanotech for both Mina and Camie while they're on I-Island. While the jetpacks can't manage sustained flight, they can be used for, say, getting to the top of a building.
* NotSoStoic: The [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Konan]] {{expy}} shows no emotion until Sero and Tetsutetsu pull off a move that lets them defeat her.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Lampshaded by Juzo who notes that if Quirks followed actual physics, his softening the ground wouldn't matter as they'd still die from the height they fell from.
* ObviousRulePatch:
** After Ochako and Iida win the Heroes vs Villains exercise by taking the bomb outside of the testing site, All Might says future attempts to do so will result in disqualification.
** PlayedForLaughs when Thirteen declares that if Izuku and Momo are paired up by random lots, they have to reroll, with All Might agreeing that they're overpowered together.
* OhCrap: Shinso has a brief moment of realizing how screwed he is during the obstacle race when one of his lackeys gets hit, breaking his control over him and starting a chain reaction that frees the others.
* OnceIsNotEnough: Izuku's belief he'd taken out Kaminari during the Heroes vs Villains exercise allows the latter to launch a sneak attack that almost takes Izuku out of the match. The next day Aizawa warns him that sort of thing has ended a great number of careers and to make sure his opponent is really down next time.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: A villain Inasa fights at the USJ refuses to give out her name and instead accepts his nickname for her "Blazing-chan".
* OnlySaneMan: One of the USJ villains in the Flood Zone suggests maybe they shouldn't drop the kid with an electrical Quirk into the water they're all swimming in, especially as Kaminari's obviously terrified of the idea.
* PlayingWithFire: Two different villains at the USJ.
** Blazing-chan can manipulate and absorb fire which empowers her.
** An unnamed villain can teleport between flames.
* PlayingPossum: During the Battle Trials, assuming your opponent is down while they are not, costs several teams dearly, leading All Might to give them a grim warning about that in the future. He proves right, as in the USJ Aoyama is nearly tortured to death for assuming one of his opponents is unconscious like the rest.
-->'''All Might''': I should have declared Todoroki-shonen out of the exercise once he was fully wrapped to the crate. In the real world, that could have been an easy way to end up with a knife in the throat. Remember that while you're training for it, out in the field is a different world. Villains
 real Villains often do not hesitate to kill or cripple. This is a rewarding profession in very many ways, but it is a dangerous one. Never forget that.
* PointOfDivergence:
** All for One modifies Tomura's plans for the USJ Attack, telling him to start with killing the students to break All Might, ''then'' kill the Symbol of Peace himself. The end result is that the stakes are a lot higher for the students with several coming close to death and others being severely injured.
** The Sports Festival being later compared to canon means that the I-Island trip ends up happening before the Sports Festival.
** With Inasa in Class 1-A, Shoto ends up using his fire before the Sports Festival. And while the question that gets through to him is the same, the context is very different[[labelnote:*]]Rather than Izuku calling him out on "looking down on his competitors", it's Inasa being upset that Shoto is once again not using his fire against villains who want to kill him and his classmates[[/labelnote]].
** Due to Camie, who along with Toru, having a Quirk with little combat utilization and Melissa, a [[{{UnSorcerer}} Quirkless individual]] being Hero Course students, Class 1-A is a lot less sympathetic to the General Studies students for not making it in. In fact, Class 1-A use the blaming of their Quirks as a basis for their TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards the former.
* {{Polyamory}}:
** Nejire mentions having attempted a polyamorous relationship previously with Mirio and Yuyu. Their relationship failed because Yuyu wasn't actually interested in Mirio and ignored him on dates to focus on Nejire. The three [[BetterAsFriends broke it off to preserve their friendships]].
** As of chapter 9, Izuku is in a polyamorous relationship with [[spoiler:Momo, Camie, Mina, Setsuna, and Nejire]]. To avoid the pitfalls of the above example, the ladies try dating each other as well and are indeed interested in one another. Although Momo is the only one unequivocally in love with Izuku by this point.
* PortalCut: Kurogiri attempts one during the attack on the USJ but happens to choose Setsuna, who activated her Quirk and survived unharmed.
* PostVictoryCollapse:
** Izuku passes out on his feet after driving off the League of Villains at the USJ.
** Most of the students fall to the ground after finally defeating Humarise and Wolfram. When they get back to the hotel, they basically all collapse upon the nearest surface to sleep eight hours straight.
* PowerPerversionPotential: Izuku's healing abilities cause the target to feel some pleasure. Yui takes full advantage of it to grab his hand and place it over her crotch when he offers to heal her. She ends up making a lewd moan on ''live television''.
* PragmaticHero:
** Aizawa praises students who know when to ignore villains in favor of completing their task, such as Kirishima not bothering to fight Tsuyu and instead heading straight for the bomb. As Aizawa states, a hero's first job is saving people, not fighting villains.
** How Camie has to fight, as with her Quirk she needs to rely upon deception to best her opponents.
** Nejire gives Izuku a mild chewing out for neglecting his telepathy, insisting a hero has to use ''every'' tool at their disposal, even the ones that make them uncomfortable.
* PromotedToLoveInterest:
** In canon, Izuku and Mina, Momo, and Setsuna are mere classmates, while Nejire is an upperclassman who rarely if ever interacts with those four, and Camie has never actually met any of them due to being replaced by Toga Himiko during her first appearance. Here, they are all friends at a minimum and have romantic interests. As of chapter 9, [[spoiler:all six of them are romantically involved in a polycule]].
** Kaminari and Kinoko end up dating while visiting I-Island, while in canon they were only acquaintances.
* ProperlyParanoid:
** Izuku, Momo, Itsuka, and Setsuna theorize that the media break-in could have been part of a villain attack and warn the rest of their classes to be on guard. They're completely correct to be on guard, as yes, the break-in ''was'' part of a villain's plan, and that plan is to kill them at the USJ. Their caution proves a saving grace as the villain forces turn out to be more dangerous than the mere thugs they were in canon.
** It's revealed that the government watches out for potentially dangerous Quirks that have the highest risk for abuse, Such as Momo's Creation which could allow her to create any weapon she wants or wreck the economy by devaluing solid and liquid assets creating them willy-nilly or Mina's Acid Quirk which is confirmed to make HollywoodAcid.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Q-T]]
* RasputinianDeath: The USJ Noumu gets sliced, shot, melted with acid, set on fire with napalm, blown up, and finally completely incinerated before it's put down for good.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After they spar, Momo calls out Shoto for continuing to refuse to use his fire, lambasting him for not only actively crippling himself but not even wanting to be a hero. He just wants to prove his father wrong and is trying to be a hero out of spite.
-->'''Momo:''' How are any of us supposed to feel good about winning when all you do is sit there and insult everyone giving it their all? ... You say you want to be the Number One without using your whole Quirk? Newsflash Todoroki-kun. You're just as bad as Bakugō-san and his angry yelling and bullying. No one in their right mind would give someone like you a high rank. ... You'll never even break the top ten with your attitude. Inevitably your ice is not going to be enough, and you're going to let someone die to continue throwing your tantrum. You don't want to be a Hero. You just want to prove your father wrong about... whatever your issue is with him. But you never will. You're no different than him. No one needs a Hero who runs off '''spite'''.
* ReedSnorkel: Of sorts. When the USJ Noumu tosses one of the 1-B students into the lake unconscious to drown, Izuku (even in his exhaustion and state of near HeroicBSOD) uses all the psychic power he can muster to form a tube from Jurota's mouth and nose to the surface of the lake so the boy can breathe.
* RememberedICouldFly: After a group of students lose several minutes trying to get past an improvised wall Yui and Shoto put up during the obstacle course, Pony steps forward and blasts it to pieces with her horn cannon. Her sheepish response when asked why she didn't do so earlier suggests she forgot she could until just then.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers:
** A villain who can teleport via fire is also fireproof.
** Zigzagged with Izuku's healing flames. They're automatic so he doesn't need to know what he's fixing in order to do so, [[spoiler:but only with fresh wounds. With old wounds, it's suggested he needs to know anatomy to repair the damage done]].
* RhetoricalQuestionBlunder: When Izuku yells at the panicking students whether they're heroes in training or "a bunch of stampeding idiots", several of them point out that they're business students.
* RocketPunch: One of the unnamed villains at the USJ can launch his fists like rockets.
* RuderAndCruder: This fic's language is so much crasser and more sexual than canon, especially in high-tense situations, that the only reason Bakugo is still SirSwearsALot is because he curses even when the situation doesn't call for it.
* ShipTease:
** Mina frequently cuddles Izuku, even referring to him as her "cuddle buddy" at one point, on top of him being one of only two people she's nicknamed. Meanwhile, Izuku and Momo tend to make eye contact and then look away while blushing. After the USJ, this evolves to crushing him with hugs, her unconsciously holding his hand for comfort, and outright acknowledging she has a crush on him. Camie also gets in the game, pouting that Mina got "first kiss" when she pecks him on the cheek. Setsuna uses her Quirk to [[spoiler:"heal" Izuku's arm by attaching her own to his stump]]. It's acknowledged as adorable. As of chapter 9, this ship teasing has resolved [[spoiler:into a polycule]].
** Itsuka and Inasa are shown to at least be interested in each other, starting with her saying she could kiss him when he saves her from the heat of the USJ's Conflagration Zone.
** Kinoko treats the I-Island outing as a test for Kaminari being her boyfriend. He passes and by the time they return to Japan, they're a full-fledged couple.
* ShoutOut:
** Izuku's Quirk is named [[ComicBook/XMen Phoenix Force]].
** Kaminari's Quirk is reworked to be an Expy of [[VideoGame/{{Infamous}} Cole MacGrath]].
** Izuku's costume is based heavily on concept art for Adam Warlock in the ''Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse''.
** Nirengeki uses multiple moves from ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry''.
** Several to ''Manga/OnePiece''
*** Setsuna's Quirk is compared to Buggy's Devil Fruit power.
*** Itsuka's Quirk is compared to Luffy's Elephant Gun.
*** Inasa names one of his attacks Ursus Shock.
*** Several of the obstacles in the UA Sports Festival Obstacle Course are based on the trials from the Skypiea Arc, down to the very name. When Izuku realizes this, Present Mic says the name alone should have given it away. Izuku also thinks the mountain that is the last obstacle of the race is based on Reverse Mountain.
** Pony's Quirk is inspired heavily by [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Hollow Ichigo's cero]].
** Izuku names his DangerousForbiddenTechnique "[[VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon Inferno Overdrive]]".
** During rescue training, Kyoka plays [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure the Pillar Man theme]] on her phone (at Mina's insistence) while Mina and Camie pose with Izuku.
** Kyoka's hero name is [[Anime/KillLaKill Symphony Regalia]].
** One of Nejire's attacks is functionally (and lampshaded as) a [[Manga/DragonBall Special Beam Cannon]]. Another is essentially the [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Giga Drill Breaker]].
** Mirroring ''Fanfic/OneForAllAndEightForTheNinth'', Izuku and Momo are quickly banned from being paired together in exercises because they're too overpowered together.
** During their date, Izuku antis Camie's joke in a manner identical to [[WebVideo/HellsingUltimateAbridged Walter did to Alucard]]. Later, the pair of them quote ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure''.
** To ''Literature/HarryPotter''. Upon reasoning out that it was Katsuki who told Izuku to jump off a roof, Momo says she was going to kill him, and then have him expelled.
** Several during the I-Island attack.
*** Melissa's suit is pretty much [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Samus Aran's Zero Suit]] with the powers of the [[Franchise/MassEffect N7 Armor]].
*** Kaminari leaps into a crowd of inhuman {{Mooks}} while playing ''[[Music/LedZeppelin The Immigrant Song]]'', a la ''Film/ThorRagnarok''.
*** Immediately afterwards Setsuna and Mina quote ''Film/TheSuicideSquad''.
--->'''Setsuna:''' No one likes a showoff.\
'''Mina:''' Unless what they're showing off is dope as fuck.\
'''Setsuna:''' Fuck, that's true!
*** Shoto and Kaminari each use an attack named after a ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' attack, Blast Burn and Zap Cannon respectively.
*** Momo creates a BFG and, after musing to herself that her girlfriends have corrupted her, declares that "[[WebVideo/HellsingUltimateAbridged Bitches love cannons]]."
** Crossing over with AdaptationExpansion, the obstacle race of the Sports Festival is reminiscent of ''Series/Wipeout2008'' and ''Series/MostExtremeEliminationChallenge'' or ''Series/TakeshisCastle''.
* SkewedPriorities: Neito keeps trash-talking 1-A even when they're all fighting off villains at the USJ. Even Vlad King is disgusted in spite of his own competitiveness.
* SlasherSmile: Blazing-chan sports one after she transforms into her SuperMode.
* SleepCute:
** The polycule ends up like this during the beach trip before I-Island and after the events of such.
** Itsuka ends up sleeping atop Inasa after the latter. All are understandably embarrassed when they see All Might there waiting for them to wake up.
* SmolderingShoes: Neito's attack that combines Yui's and Tsuburaba's Quirks knocks a villain out of his shoes entirely.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: After hearing about what the students went through to defeat the USJ Nomu, Nejire asks why Izuku didn't just use his telepathy to "mind crush" it. Izuku admits he hadn't thought of it, but also because he doesn't know if he even ''can'', not to mention how tricky something like that would be without leaving the target brain dead.
* TakeThat:
** During Momo's speech of how she refuses to leave Izuku to be the next sole Symbol of Peace, she makes a dig at Death Arms, Kamui Woods, and Mount Lady for standing around not doing anything while Bakugo was being swallowed by the Sludge Villain because they didn't have the "appropriate Quirks". And this is in spite of the fact that she cares little for Bakugo so it also overlaps with EveryoneHasStandards.
** A mild one is given to how canon Izuku initially used One for All. [[spoiler:Momo]] initially only channels it into a single arm but immediately realizes that's a bad idea and spreads it throughout her body instead. After shattering (and having Izuku heal) her arm, she almost instantly determines she needs to lower the percentage of power. Both actions are something that took Izuku months to figure out in the original story.
* {{Teleportation}}:
** Izuku develops a teleportation skill.
** One villain at the USJ can teleport via fire.
** An unnamed member of Humarise can swap places with his body parts. He teleports Flect Turn, Beros, and Leviathan to I-Island by leaving one of his toes with each of them and activating his quirk during the attack.
* ThatCameOutWrong: While brainstorming costume improvements, Mina mentions that Izuku and Momo "taught her how to squirt". When three of the other girls tell her that was TooMuchInformation, she clarifies that she meant her acid.
* TherapyIsForTheWeak: Defied; Aizawa tells his class that everyone who was at the USJ attack will be attending a mandatory session with Hound Dog. Whether they have more than one session with the counselor is up to them.
-->'''Aizawa:''' Being unsettled and needing help is not a weakness. Floundering on your own when you could be getting help is.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill:
** Bakugo uses his gauntlet at the USJ to defeat a villain whose laser Quirk makes her too dangerous to get close. However, after the adrenaline dies down and a chewing-out by Kirishima, he's horrified by how badly he injured her.
** While the students try numerous such attacks against the USJ Noumu (including ''napalm'' and an acid that Mina herself stated made [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoroantimonic_acid fluoroantimonic acid]] look like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetic_acid acetic acid]]), what finally takes it down is Izuku using a DangerousForbiddenTechnique that's described as temporarily creating a second sun in the USJ.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** One of the reasons Izuku is so popular with his classmates, is because of his efforts to help everyone else become even more powerful. At the Battle Trials, he points out how effective Koji would have been if he had unleashed rats against his opponents. At their group sessions, he leads similar conversations, which helps several of his peers make more progress with their Quirks in minutes than they have managed in ''years''.
** At the Battle Trials, and taking the lead from Inasa's example, Tokoyami develops his special move, Black Abyss (though he calls it Black Ankh), months earlier.
** Faced with life and death, the USJ forces several of the students to develop far faster than canon.
*** Kirishima unlocks his Unbreakable super move at the USJ, three seasons earlier than canon.
*** Similarly, Katsuki figures out AP Shot.
*** Inasa develops on the fly his most powerful move yet by compressing together a tornado.
*** To even have a chance at hurting the Nomu, Momo unlocks firepower of a terrifying variety and intensity.
** In chapter 8, [[spoiler:Momo gains One For All, and learns to use it far faster than Izuku ever managed in canon]].
** Similarly, the I-Island attack forces several students to improve their skills on the fly in order to survive.
*** Mina pulls out her Acidman super move half a year before canon.
*** Yui uses her Quirk to control the environment, growing and shrinking the walls and floor to strike the villains.
*** Izuku's strength grows even more, now able to go toe to toe with Wolfram when using their Quirks, and stopping a supersonic multi-ton metal cube in seconds.
* TurnsRed: When she's nearly defeated, Beros doses herself with [[PsychoSerum Trigger]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:U-Z]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery:
** At the USJ, the villains ''badly'' underestimated the students they would be up against. They were anticipating a fun experience torturing and murdering terrified teenagers. Instead, those who were not fortunate enough to be simply curb-stomped, all ended up outright hospitalized, sometimes with crippling injuries. Shigaraki was outright maimed.
** While being lectured by Aizawa, Shouto tries to insist he could have easily stopped the Noumu at the USJ by freezing it. As Aizawa counters, the Noumu was ludicrously strong and regenerated from being reduced to part of a head and a spine; nothing Shouto could do would've stopped it.
* UnholyMatrimony: Two USJ villains, Alkali and Hydrodynamic, are stated to be married though they do playfully bicker with each other.
* VillainousBreakdown: Shigaraki starts howling and foaming at the mouth when Izuku reminds him of All Might, insisting the boy has to die before he becomes another symbol of peace. Even when his leg is frozen in place, he nearly tears it off himself trying to reach Izuku.
* WardrobeMalfunction: Nejire tells Izuku that Ryukyu warned her that costumes being ruined (usually from villain fights) in public resulting in the hero or heroine being nude is an unfortunate job hazard.
* WaveMotionGun: Pony can fire one from her horns, unlike canon where she fired the horns themselves.
* WeAREStrugglingTogether: When paired up for the Heroes vs Villains exercise, Bakugo and Aoyama spend more time arguing with each other than actually trying to complete the exercise.
--> '''All Might''': '''"Before I give you all the floor, I have a few words to say as well. That was a disgraceful performance by the Hero team. Perhaps one of the worst I've ever seen. That bout was the perfect example for why we randomize these matches. You were right at each other's throats from before the match even started.'''
* WeNeedADistraction: The League of Villains have several Noumu attack UA during their attack on the USJ as a distraction.
* WeaksauceWeakness:
** Manga can't use his Quirk if his face gets wet, a significant problem at the USJ as he was dropped into the Flood Zone.
** Both Tokoyami and Kuroiro require darkness to use their Quirks, causing a villain who creates a floodlight to render them mostly helpless.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Both Bakugo and Todoroki are lectured for using attacks that could seriously maim or even kill their classmates during the Heroes vs Villains exercise. Todoroki gets off a bit lighter due to his obvious horror at what he almost did and that, unlike Bakugo, he lost control and lashed out rather than deliberately almost maiming a classmate.
** At the USJ, Bakugo and Todoroki are chewed out by their classmates for their actions. Bakugo for nearly killing his opponent and obviously enjoying it, at least until he has a MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment. And Todoroki for refusing to use his fire even when not doing so would mean his death and the deaths of his classmates.
** Shouto actually goes through several over his refusal to use fire.
*** The first is after the USJ attack from Aizawa, where the Pro Hero points out that Todoroki's stubborn refusal not only endangers himself but also his classmates due to giving two villains more ammunition to work with. When Todoroki insists he "doesn't need [Endeavor's] fire", Aizawa fires back that clearly he doesn't need to be a hero either.
*** Momo gives another in a sparring match after the USJ, where she casually bests him while demonstrating how she has learned from the battle while he has not, and then verbally tears into him.
*** Hagakure gives one to Todoroki after she realizes he would have let the villains kill him or his classmates before using his fire, which prompts her to also slap him hard.
*** What finally makes it stick is two conversations with his peers during the crisis on I-Island, as they drive home how he is [[NotSoDifferentRemark behaving so much like Endeavour and Flect Turn]].
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: The USJ Incident proves to be this for the students of Class 1-A and 1-B as they are forced into dire circumstances.
** It is made clear that Mineta has no control over his perverted nature, from making harassing remarks towards Kanga-chan and deliberately molesting her to, perhaps unintentionally, groping Reiko. Unsurprisingly, this gets him unceremoniously [[PutOnABus expelled from U.A.]]
** Even when facing death, Todoroki refuses to use his fire against villains. [[HonorBeforeReason Even when it is endangering the lives of his classmates.]]
** For the rest of the students they learn just how far they are willing to go in order to defeat their enemies. Some cripple villains and regret it while Bakugo is sickened to realize the satisfaction he took in doing it to his opponent. Aoyama is suffering horrible internal injuries, and no one would fault him for staying out of the rest of the fight, yet risks further damage to save his classmates. Meanwhile, Izuku proves he is willing to die if that is what it takes to take down the Nomu and save the others.
* WouldHitAGirl: None of the male hero students make a fuss about fighting female villains at the USJ, recognizing that all of them will kill them if given a chance.
* WrongAssumption: Momo assumes that Mina's acid can't melt through plastic, much like normal acids. Mina later tells her she can create acid that will melt anything but it's too dangerous for training purposes. Aizawa later reminds Momo that Quirks tend to operate on their own logic so you can't assume you understand someone's powers from basic information.
* YouCouldHaveUsedYourPowersForGood: Kirishima tries the same with the [[Manga/{{Hellsing}} Tubalcain Alhambra]] {{expy}}, only for the villain to laugh at the very idea, saying he enjoys killing people far too much.
