----
!!''Rise of a New Moon'' contains the following tropes:
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Kallen and Naoto are switched up so that she's the older sibling and he's younger. This leads to his survival as she pushes him to stay a civilian and get his education.
* AdaptationalBadass: Euphemia is a test pilot for Camelot. [[spoiler:She gets to see some action when defending Ashford and the nearby power station when the Blood of the Samurai attack the capital]].
* AngstWhatAngst: Luna isn't hit particularly hard by the death of the new world's Nunnally, since she knows her Nunnally is alive and well as Empress of Britannia. Though not as emotionally invested, she still mourns as she never got the chance to know her or see her grow.
* BiggerStick: Fully aware of their extreme numerical and logistical disadvantage, the JLF decides to match Britannia with more advanced technology. This is shown by their deployment of the Gekka to fight the Blood of the Samurai [[spoiler:and the ''Hiryu'' in support of Luna's takeover of Japan]].
** Milly has a non-weapon version when her parents are pushing her into an ArrangedMarriage, [[spoiler:when Luna gives her Lloyd's noble title and she uses that authority to get out of it]].
* BodySurf: Empress Marianne starts the story in the body of Anya Alstreim. [[spoiler:She enacts a plot to seemingly assassinate Princess Guinevere as a cover to take her body instead.]]
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Happens to Joseph Fenette and Prince Clovis. The former is a part of Code-R, but is spared because Luna doesn't want to Shirley to be hurt. The latter is spared so she can use him as a puppet as part of her plan to basically take over Japan without a fight.
* DeathByAdaptation: [[spoiler: Anya Alstreim, as part of Marianne's ploy to [[BodySurf steal Guinevere's body for herself]].]]
* DecompositeCharacter: Though we have Luna vi Britannia as the main character of the story, somehow, Julius Kingsley exists [[spoiler:as an ally of Empress Marianne]].
* DiscardAndDraw: Luna has a Code, which renders her effectively immortal but deprives her of the Power of Kings.
* ElectricTorture: Ten year old Luna is tased repeatedly in front of Dorothea Earnst until the latter tells the [=JLF=] what they want to know.
* FalseFlagOperation: Some JLF kill-teams attack General Bartley under Blood of the Samurai colors to justify counter-operations.
* ForScience: Lloyd, which is how Luna is able to get resources [[spoiler:and even his noble title]] from him. So long as she can offer him good technology samples or a devicer for the Lancelot in Suzaku, he won't bat an eye in giving her what she asks for. She even reckons she can hire him away from Britannia with this.
* ForcedToWatch: Luna is tortured in front of Dorothea to make the latter give up the information the [=JLF=] is after, though the whole thing was planned by Luna.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: We get hints of [[spoiler:the ''Hiryu'''s existence]] as far back as Lake Kawaguchi. Because what would a hidden resistance group, though one with admittedly advanced tech, [[spoiler:need with ship-scale railguns?]]
* FreudianExcuse: Nina's xenophobia is a result of having been beaten and raped by a gang of Japanese thugs when she was thirteen. According to Luna, it left her with [=PTSD=], recurring nightmares, and emotional instability.
* LogicalWeakness: A Glasglow's [[FragileSpeedster superior maneuverability not only comes at the cost of armor]], but it's completely negated if the entire area is being fired upon at the same time.
* MergerOfSouls: Of Lelouch vi Britannia of the old world and Luna vi Britannia of the new one.
* TheMole: As soon as Luna reveals herself to be alive to him, Jeremiah immediately becomes this for her. He brings Viletta along for the ride and, later, Suzaku and Euphemia join in.
* MundaneUtility: Luna has used her HealingFactor to drink half a bottle of quality sake [[NeverGetsDrunk without getting drunk]].
* MysteriousBacker: Luna is one of the founding members and the primary backer of the JLF. Atsushi Sawasaki and the Chinese Federation give their backing to the Blood of the Samurai.
* NoSell: Glasglow rifles are worthless against the much more heavily-armored tanks, forcing the mecha to outmaneuver them and use their slash harkens against them.
* NotHisSled: Charles is ''not'' in fact part of the Geass Directorate nor in on the whole Ragnarok plan this time around, something neither Luna nor CC are aware of.
* OverdrawnAtTheBloodBank: While testing her HealingFactor, Luna bled out over ten times her body's volume of blood over the course of half an hour, with no signs of even running low.
* PragmaticVillainy: Britannia stopped using gas-based weaponry (such as nerve gas) before Luna was born, due to their impracticality. Any of their weapons that weren't destroyed were instead sold to African warlords.
* [[PuppetKing Puppet Viceroy]]: Luna plans to use Clovis to make sweeping policy changes in Japan, essentially fulfilling her objectives there without needing to face Britannia militarily. He goes along with it, knowing that he's no great administrator and that it would spare him from C.C.'s wrath. [[SpannerInTheWorks Unfortunately…]]
* RefugeInAudacity: After [[spoiler:Clovis dies]], Luna makes one last gamble to take Japan without having open war. She does this by [[spoiler:having the JLF deploy all their forces to critical locations (backed by the authority of the Area government) and march with her into Tokyo where she declares herself Viceroy before Cornelia arrives]]. This is one part of why this plan works.
* SecretIdentity: Luna goes by Clare Lautrec in school while her schoolmate Naoto Kouzuki takes up the name Nathan Stadtfeld. They muse on the similarities of their circumstance as she hires him to help prop up her double life.
* ShoutOut:
** Jeremiah's favorite bar is the [[Manga/BlackLagoon Yellow Flag]].
** Luna's SecretIdentity, Clare Lautrec, is one to Manga/{{Claymore}}.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Luna's plans for Clovis would've worked, too, if it weren't for [[spoiler: Kusakabe and the Blood of the Samurai killing him in their attempt to go out in a blaze of glory]].
* SummonBiggerFish: Another reason why Luna's bloodless takeover of Japan works, is because Britannia can't afford to get into a shooting war with the JLF while the Chinese Federation is waiting over in Kyushu for any signs of weakness.
* SuperweaponSurprise: It's surprising enough to see the JLF touting some new Knightmare Frames that surpasses Britannia's frontline frames in quality, but it's another matter entirely when [[spoiler:they show off their own ''airship''. Especially since this one is so large that it dwarfs Cornelia's ''entire'' fleet all on its lonesome]].
* UriahGambit: The Purists would be a liability to Area 11, what with the more equal policy changes being enacted. So Luna decides to have them at the front of their engagements with the Blood of the Samurai, leaving them at a disadvantage for the JLF troops deployed to wipe them both out.
* WouldHurtAChild: Dorothea is forced to watch Luna undergo ElectricTorture via taser by Urabe until she tells the [=JLF=] what they want to know. Subverted when afterwards, Urabe promptly throws up in a nearby crate and Luna reveals that she planned the whole thing.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Luna finds Mao as she looks for CC in the Code-R facilities. Then kills him after she uses him to get information from the scientists because she knows that he's too dangerous to let live.
* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters: The Blood of the Samurai are extremely unpopular in Japan, as most of their kills are Japanese. They justify this by saying that all those who bow their heads to Britannia are traitors, even as moderates like Katase understand that people only want to get through life as best they can.
