!!''King of the Monsters'' provides examples of:
* AIIsACrapshoot: [[spoiler: Kiryu goes berserk twice during the story. Both times are very similar to ''Film/GodzillaAgainstMechagodzilla'' and ''Film/GodzillaTokyoSOS'', with the cyborg first going rogue when it hears Godzilla's roar, and again when it appears Godzilla is about to be killed by King Ghidorah]]. Averted for the Jaeger AI's, however.
* AlternateUniverseFic: For ''Film/PacificRim''. The most obvious change is the appearance of Godzilla in 1954, although there are other changes as well. Film/{{Rodan}} appear in the 1960's, Film/{{Mothra}} appears in the 1970's, and Anguirus appears in the 1980's. Trespasser's attack on San Francisco is pushed up a year as well.
* BackToBackBadasses: More like Side to Side Badasses. During the battle in Hong Kong, Otachi and the additional Kaiju [[Film/{{Terror of Mechagodzilla}} Titanosaurus]] turn away from Newt to find Gipsy strolling towards them with an oil tanker, as per canon. What makes the scene even more awesome, however, is the fact that [[spoiler: Godzilla is walking alongside it]]. Cue a Kaiju-sized {{Oh Crap}} on Otachi and Titanosaurus's part.
* BigBad: Aside from the Anteverse aliens, there is also their ultimate weapon, [[spoiler: King Ghidorah]]. [[spoiler: Sinister appears to be taking the role for Book II.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: Raleigh and Mako serve this role during the climactic final battle at the Breach when they cut off King Ghidorah's middle head, saving Godzilla and giving him the chance to beat him]].
* BilingualBonus: In addition to his usual moniker of "King of the Monsters", Godzilla is also known as the "Jaeger von Jaegers", which means "Hunter of Hunters" in German.
* BioluminescenceIsCool: The Anteverse Kaiju, naturally.
* CrapsackWorld: It is set in a slightly different ''Pacific Rim'' universe, after all. Humanity's situation is no different than in the canon universe. [[spoiler: In fact, it might get even worse]].
* CurbstompBattle: Godzilla specializes in serving these out. Nothing, whether it be a Jaeger or a Kaiju, is capable of giving him any real challenge, [[spoiler: until he fights King Ghidorah]].
* {{Cyborg}}: [[spoiler: The nature of the PPDC's secret weapon, Silver Dragon (AKA Kiryu)]].
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler: When it appears that Godzilla might be finished off by King Ghidorah when the latter manages to get a stranglehold, he never stops struggling and roars in defiance]]. It is even noted by the narrator.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Gipsy, did you just [[spoiler: cut off King Ghidorah's middle head?]]
* TheDreaded: Godzilla is this to the PPDC, and rightly so, due to his habit of destroying both Jaegers and Kaiju alike. He once defeated three Jaegers at once with ease, and has earned the in-universe moniker of "Jaeger von Jaegers", which also serves as a BilingualBonus for those who know German. [[spoiler: King Ghidorah also becomes this as soon as the PPDC learns of his existence]].
* TheEndOrIsIt: [[spoiler: Although the threat of the Breach Kaiju appears to have been finally defeated, it appears that trouble might be brewing on our side of the Breach, as the teaser for Part II indicates]].
* GodzillaThreshold: Gipsy Danger crosses it by [[spoiler: teaming up with the [[Franchise/{{Godzilla}} Trope Namer]] himself]] during the battle in Hong Kong.
* LesserOfTwoEvils: As the situation gets more desperate, the PPDC ends up viewing Godzilla as this. Although he also attacks human cities like the Breach Kaiju, the attacks are infrequent and usually only cursory raids along the outskirts in search of nuclear power. The Breach Kaiju, on the other hand, go out of their way to kill as many people as possible.
* NothingIsScarier: How the mysterious Kaiju at the beginning earns its reputation. It gives no sign, no warning of its presence. It just hits hard, fast, and then disappears. Pentecost notes that it's too stealthy to be Godzilla, as he tends to let you know exactly where he is.
* VaguenessIsComing: Miki gets a rather cryptic warning about "a coming destroyer" in a dream. [[spoiler: It turns out to be King Ghidorah himself]].
