->For all the blood on his hands, Red Hood was never just a villain. And Nightwing never gives up on family, not for good.

All the Roofs of Uncertainty by Kieron_ODuibhir is a ContinuationFic in a version of the DCU's New Earth continuity where ComicBook/DCComics did not set the reset button.

The story picks up with Jason Todd several years after that continuity ended in the comics and follows him in the aftermath of a fight to protect earth. He'd been given clearance to fight alongside the heroes by ComicBook/Nightwing despite their previous animosity. As the tale unfolds Jason and Bruce finally bury the hatchet and Jason agrees to try being a part of the family again.

!!Tropes featured in All the Roofs of Uncertainty include:
* ActionDad: The story features some of DC's finest action dads in action, including Bruce Wayne and Wally West, as well as a look at a broken one in Roy Harper whose daughter's murder will always weigh heavily on him.
* AfterActionHealingDrama: Jason finds Dick badly injured on the battlefield in the first chapter and most of the rest of the fic takes place while he's trying to get Dick help or at the hospital waiting to see if he's going to pull through.
* AlienBlood: The aliens attacking the earth bleed green.
* AntiVillain: Jason may be relatable and understandable but at no point does the narrative try to paint his murderous actions after his resurrection in a heroic light. It clearly stated in the text that Jason is a villain, and he does not deny this...eventually.
* CainAndAbel: Poor Tim's position as the Abel to both Damian and Jason is highlighted in the waiting room. He's protective of Damian despite his younger brother's viciousness and tries to be courteous to Jason while being on guard for Jason's potential to attack them both.
* CompletedFic: The fic is complete at eleven chapters + an epilogue.
* ContinuityCameo:
** ComicBook/Static ends up on the same "ambulance" as Dick and Jason, he's not even named but is recognizable by description.
** Captain Marvel (Freddy) and Bulleteer (Alix) are in the waiting room openly eavesdropping on Jason, Tim and Damian.
* ContinuityNod: Approximately every bit of conversation between Jason and the rest of the Batclan once off the battlefield is a reference to canonical events from the comics, and he muses over some of the less savory things he did and his rationale behind those actions privately as well.
* CoolHelmet: Jason's wearing his fan preferred sleek red motorcycle helmet, not the tall "bucket" or the bizarre hideous face conforming one. It gets taken off pretty early on and then wrecked when he pisses off ComicBook/TheFlash and Wally punches a hole in it.
* DeadpanSnarker: Jason and Tim are both in fine form, and Cass manages to join in the family snarking tradition in a grand way even while keeping to her usual brevity.
%%* ADickInName: Jason takes gleeful advantage of Dick's name.
* DominoMask: All the Batfamily members are wearing theirs besides ComicBook/RedRobin and Batman. Jason's wearing his under his helmet, and then only the mask after he takes the helmet off.
* DysfunctionJunction: The Wayne family's exceptionally messed up relationships with each other and horrifying collection of tragic backstories is dragged to light by Bruce who wants to try and make things a bit better, and succeeds for once by managing to wrangle his manipulative troop of kids and himself to family therapy.
* HeelRealization: The realization that he's an actual villain whose been murdering people "to get [his] dad's attention" slams into Jason pretty hard part way through when he has time to reflect on and talk about his interactions with the heros.
* HiddenDepths: Leslie Thompkins helps Jason understand Bruce better by telling him a stories of his teenagehood, when Bruce was already plotting to become Batman.
* InSeriesNickname:
** Jason uses his usual unflattering set for his siblings, including "Replacement" for Tim and "Golden Boy" and "Bluebird" for Dick. He also privately refers to Tim as "sneaky kid" but only within his own thoughts. He refers to Bulleteer as "Chrome Tits" before an unimpressed Tim informs him of her name, though he'd been thinking of her as "Chrome Woman" before he needed to bring her up in conversation so he was just trying to be crass. Damian mostly gets variations on "Baby Bird", "demon" and "prince".
** Dick calls Jason "Little Wing", a nickname from canon Jason does not care for.
* InsufficientlyAdvancedAlien: The JLA and their allies completely decimate the invaders, though the aliens do some damage first. Jason wonders to himself why aliens still bother trying to attack earth when the planet has already proven itself better defended than Oa.
* LastRequest: Dick and Jason both know Dick is bleeding out and Dick forces him to agree to a favor before he passes out, which is mainly that Jason try to look out for their little brothers if Dick dies. Jason finds this hilarious since he's made multiple attempts on their lives but still agrees to do so, even if his response is darkly sarcastic.
* MercyKill: Jason offhandedly kills an injured alien that no longer poses a threat to save it from ending up in the hands of "Waller or her ilk". He discovered Dick when he was walking towards what he thought was another injured alien he intended to put down.
* PapaWolf: Jason manages to infuriate Wally West by bringing up his own death as a sidekick and asking why the hell Wally is "allowing" his own daughter to act as Impulse.
* PsychicBlockDefense: The therapist Dr. Ming is a meta with protection against psychic attacks.
* PullTheIV: Leslie demands that someone Dick trusts stay in the room with him after surgery, preferably one of the Bats, to ensure he doesn't pull his [=IV=] lines and try to escape before he realizes he's in a friendly medical facility.
* RevenantZombie: Jason choosing to act like he is one is discussed at length while Bruce tries to convince him that he's been given a second chance at life and he should grab at that and go ahead and live.
* ShoutOut:
** Jason starts humming Music/PinkFloyd's "Poles Apart" after Dick asks him to hum if he won't talk or sing while Dick slowly looses consciousness. Some of the lyrics, those which reflect their current situation, appear as Jason thinks of them in the first two chapters.
** When Jason flippantly refers to Dick as "Big Bird" Tim almost smiles and Jason figures he probably watched Series/SesameStreet as a toddler.
** Jason thinks of Luke 17:2 in chapter 8.
** Jason muses Way to skip past the point. Hopeless failure, do not pass go, do not collect 200 batpoints. in chapter 9.
** Jason quotes Shakespeare's Theatre/RichardIII in chapter 10.
--->"My conscience hath a thousand several tongues, and every tongue brings forth a several tale, and every tale condemns me for a villain".
** Jason thinks of several plays he read in the Wayne family library in chapter 10, including Theatre/CaesarAndCleopatra by George Bernard Shaw and of going to see Three Tall Women by Edward Albee.
** Nurse Rourdan labels Jason's things as belonging to "Little Red Riding Hood" to get back at him for his sass.
** Jason and Alfred trade quotes from 'The Death of the Hired Man' and the Gospel of Luke in the epilogue.
** Cass trolls Jason with an VideoGame/AngryBirds toy.
* ShutUpHannibal: Wally West to Jason Todd at the Caldera Elipson hospital, after Jason pushes his BerserkButton by accusing Wally of endangering his daughter's life. Wally points out that Jason choose to do his PayEvilUntoEvil and to attack his own family, as other superheroes had come back to life without falling to such darkness.
* ShownTheirWork: There are many nods to events from the comics, and the notes at the end of each chapter try to give a frame of reference for what issues of what books were referenced in the chapter.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Thoroughly averted and discussed. Jason is still understandably furious at Bruce for his dying message and blows up when Bruce tries to bring up therapy, in the end they do end up going (as seen in the epilogue) since Bruce has managed to find someone he actually trusts and who has natural defenses against PsychicPowers.
* WarFic: Starts during the final battle between earth and extraterrestrial invaders.
