3	''Singularity'' was a Manga/FairyTail {{SciFi}} AlternateUniverse story by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/6915299/ McSquidster]]. The story takes place eight years after a war between The Council and The Balam Alliance and the galaxy as been on edge ever since. The story follows a small crew of a space ship consisting of [[TheCaptain Erza]], [[AcePilot Natsu]] and [[TheEngineer Gray]] who do jobs for the Council. When an acquaintance of Erza's ask that they take someone (i.e. [[LivingMacGuffin Lucy]]) in for a little while Natsu has reservations over it. That quickly changes when he learns who and what their guest is and this will lead the crew into something much bigger.

Keep in mind that Lucy doesn't like the Council anymore then the Amerans do.

27	* ComfortFood: Whether he over heard Erza and Lucy's conversation, or heard it from Erza herself, Nastu found out that Lucy [[spoiler: hadn't eaten anything in years due to the changes done to her body by the Alliance. So, he decided to leave her some chocolate in her room so her first food would be something nice]]. The smallest taste brings Lucy to TearsOfJoy.
28	* CPRCleanPrettyReliable: Adverted when [[spoiler: Natsu and Erza get captured]] after the jumper takes on water from an attack. [[spoiler: Natsu]] wakes up vomiting up the water in [[spoiler: his]] lungs after [[spoiler: Erza]] performs CPR on him. [[spoiler: He]] is left very disoriented and in pain. Through out the Ameran arc he is suffering from the effects of nearly drowning and going through CPR on top of injuries he suffered from before.
29	* CursedWithAwesome: After all the experiments done to her, Lucy [[spoiler: doesn't need to eat or sleep as long as she gets starlight]]. Lucy never asked for it and doesn't want this so called gift.
30	* DamselInDistress: The Alliance has caught up to the crew and now [[spoiler:Lucy]] is a prisoner again.
31	* DarkAndTroubledPast: It seems the whole crew plus Lucy has some hardships.
32	** Natsu was a street urchin before he was recruited by the Council.
33	** Erza appears to come from a people proud of their swordsmanship. However, it gets pointed out in a past tense.
34	** Gray has a deep seething hatred for the Alliance due to something in his past. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, some of the hate gets directed towards Lucy for being what she is]]. Turns out he has trust issues due whatever the Alliance did to him.
35	** Then there is Lucy. She was taken as a young child to be experimented on for a [[spoiler: SuperSoldier]] program. And it doesn't seem like it was pleasant at all.

37	* [[DefrostingIceQueen Defrosting Ice King]]: Lucy is starting to get past Gray's barriers when she shows enthusiasm in rescuing [[spoiler: Natsu and Erza]]. He is not ready to call her a friend due to his trust issues, but he is willing to go with acquaintance. By the end of the Ameran arc he is a lot nicer to her.
38	** Unfortunately, he goes right back to distrusting her and regarding her as a thing soon after when Porla claims she is responsible for the death of billions including the Oleum Massacre. Something that Gray has a connection to.
39	* {{Dehumanization}}: Sadly, Gray has developed this towards Lucy. Worst of all it happens soon after he had finally started to trust her. When Jose claims that she was responsible for the Oleum Massacre it as a profound effect on him and he is willing to leave her to her fate with the Alliance.
40	* DidntThinkThisThrough: Levy admits to herself that she really didn't think when she got on board the Alliance ship taking [[spoiler:Lucy]] away.
41	* DisapprovingLook: Gray is getting a number of these from Natsu and Erza with the way he treats Lucy.
42	* DislikesTheNewGuy: Natsu wasn't to keen on taking up Jellal's request to taking on a guest aboard their ship but he was over ruled by Erza. After a month he barely ever noticed her. Then he quickly changes his mind after she saves his life from an EldritchAbomination.
43	** [[spoiler: Gray on the other hand doesn't take to kind their guest (i.e. Lucy) after finding out her connection to the Alliance and what she is to them.]] Turns out he has trust issues.

46	* TheEngineer: Gray is the one who keeps the ship up and running and the engine room is his baby.
47	* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler: The thing that got on board the crew's ship. It a large black tentacle monster. But somehow it was able to get on board and sneak around without ever being seen. It wrecks the engine room. Then gets the drop on Natsu, fling him around like a ragdoll before impaling his shoulder with a sword. If Lucy hadn't stepped in it would have killed him for sure.]]
48	* EscapedFromTheLab: Lucy's backstory is that Jellal helped her escape form being a test subject.
49	* EvilGloating: Jose takes to opportunity to reveal that he was the one that turned [[spoiler:Lucy]] into what she is to the crew while they are bound. Then he has Gajeel throw her in front of them so he can reveal a secret she has been keeping from them all the while press his foot down on her head. The secret being, so he claims, that she is responsible for the death of billions.
50	** Right after this Jose's subordinate proceeds to taunt the crew before planning to kill them. He ends up getting shot by Jet and Droy.

52	** The author has stated that they are going for a Series/{{Firefly}} vibe and you can kind of see the similarities in Lucy and River's situations.
53	** The author is also a fan of the [[Franchise/StargateVerse Stargate]] series and the jumper that the crew has has similar characteristics to the ones in Series/StargateAtlantis in that it can travel through space and water.
54	* FacePlant: Lucy ends up smashing her face into a console due to Gray's less then graceful landing on Ameri. This ends up giving her a bloody nose which ends up allowing to hide the lights on her face with a wash cloth while on Ameri.
55	* FightingFromTheInside: Lucy deduces that Gajeel is under some sort of drug that compels him to obay Jose orders. When he starts to show signs of resisting Lucy tries to get him to fight it further by mentioning Juvia. How she isn't mad at him for being with the Alliance and that she is waiting for him. It has an affect. Only time will tell if he will break form the drug completely.
56	* FilthyFun: When Lucy ask Erza if she can help clean up the greenhouse after it was destroyed by the [[spoiler: tentacle monster]] Erza agrees but before she can tell Lucy where some gloves are Lucy plops down and starts using her bare hands to clean up the soil. It is later revealed Lucy did this on purpose because she had been kept in such a clean and sterile environment for so long she wanted to relish in getting some dirt in her fingernails.
57	* GildedCage: To a degree. In a sense, Lucy has traded one prison for another. She is no longer a test subject of a lab but she hasn't been able to leave the ship she is on except for once out of necessity. However, Lucy isn't complaining much. She feels much safer on board then any where else.
58	* GotVolunteered: What Gray and Lucy ended up doing for the Council with the agreement they made with the Amerans. The Council isn't to happy about this but go along with it as it will get them Ameran resources in the long run.
59	* {{Hallucinations}}:
60	** Nastu has to question if his rescuer from the [[spoiler: tentacle monster]] is real because what he is seeing is a [[spoiler: glowing girl holding a ball of light]].
61	** The drug that Lucy keeps getting injected with after her recapture gives her powerful hallucinations of various kinds of deaths she fears. Each one feels very real.
62	* [[ShesNotMyGirlfriend He's Not My Boyfriend]]: Erza threatens to cut out Natsu's tounge if he ever calls Jellal her boyfriend again. Then later punches him in the gut when he says she is whipped for him.
63	** She gets back at him after she witnesses a conversation between him and Lucy about how he gave her some chocolate.
64	* HumanAliens: Lucy is very human looking except for what looks like little lights all over her body. [[spoiler: She can also instill a calmness in those around her and create balls of light.]]
65	* HypocriticalHumor: Erza was rather quick to accuse Natsu of sneaking into her room and stealing two of her swords. Natsu quickly defends that he would never do such a thing and Erza knows Gray wouldn't either. Natsu points out that they aren't the only ones on the ship anymore indicating their guest that has been on board for a month. Erza doesn't want to jump the gun and go accusing said guest without any evidence. Natsu doesn't miss the fact that she had done just that with him.
66	* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Natsu gets a sword thrown through his shoulder during his "[[CurbStompBattle fight]]" with a [[spoiler: tentacle monster]]. [[spoiler: Lucy returns the favor by running the monster through with another sword]].
67	* IOweYouMyLife: The Amerans are very friendly with the crew after they had helped them take back the main compound from the loyalist. Especially Juvia towards Gray after his DivingSave.
68	* InTheBack: Gray ends up shooting [[spoiler: Lucy]] in the back when he thinks she is the one who hurt Natsu. Luckily, his weapon was set to stun.
69	* IrrationalHatred: Gray's treatment of [[spoiler: Lucy for her connection to the Alliance and what she is to them]]. It doesn't seem to matter that [[spoiler: Lucy]] hates the Alliance as well. He has even gone so far as to call her a freak.
70	** Turns out that it isn't so much as hate but that he has trust issues after something to do with the Alliance. He finally warms up to her at the end of the Ameran arc.
71	* ItSeemedLikeAGoodIdeaAtTheTime: Levy thought it was a good idea to follow Porla and Gajeel as they took [[spoiler: Lucy]] back to their ship and then get on board said ship before it took off. Only to realize right after how bad of an idea it was.
72	* ItsTheJourneyThatCounts: Natsu pulls this when saying it the memories they make, after he and Gray had just escaped some hostile natives. Gray points what that he almost died. To which Natsu says that is what it makes it so memorable. Fist start flying.
73	* {{Jerkass}}: Laxus is very egotistical and the only way the others can get him and his crew to help in the rescue of Levy and Lucy is to offer the corpse of the [[spoiler:tentacle monster]] which could be very valuable to the right buyer.
74	* KillItWithFire: Or in this case with light. When Lucy hits the [[spoiler: the tentacle monster with a ball of light]] it withers in pain. Lucy later reveals that creature was created by the Alliance and she was tested against them, and them against her. One of their greatest weakness is light.
75	* KissOfLife: [[spoiler: Natsu]] feels very embarrassed that [[spoiler: Erza]] gave [[spoiler: him]] one when performing CPR on him. [[spoiler: Erza]] just looks at [[spoiler: him]] like [[spoiler: he]] is an idiot.
76	* LamePunReaction: Natsu gets these from Erza and Gray has he pulls a number of underwater puns during the Ameran arc. He does succeed in getting a giggle from Lucy over one of them.
77	* LastOfHisKind: Possibly implied. No one knows what [[spoiler: Lucy]] is as it is clear that despite her humanoid appearance, the lights on her body suggest that she isn't human. Her homeworld is mentioned in past tense and none of the crew have ever seen someone like her before.

79	** What the crew does when they find out the engine room was torn to shreds. Turns out that this was a bad idea when the EldritchAbomination get the drop on Natsu and nearly kills him.
80	** They do this again with the Shadow Gear crew once they are aboard the Alliance ship so they can find Lucy faster. This time however they go in groups. Natsu and Gray in one, Erza Levy and Jet in the other.
81	* LightEmUp: Much of Lucy's abilities are centered around light.
82	* LivingMacGuffin: Lucy is a highly valued test subject to the Alliance. In their goal for [[spoiler: [[SuperSoldier super soldiers]] that don't need to eat or sleep]] she was the closest they ever got to it when no one else did. This prompted Jellal to get her away from them.
83	* LuredIntoATrap: What Natsu and Erza initially think was the reason [[spoiler: why they were shot down on their diplomacy mission to Ameri]]. Turns out the Council screwed up and sent them to the wrong location and they ended up going to an [[spoiler: Alliance sympathetic colony]] instead of the one that asked for help.
84	* MadeASlave: Gajeel was one at some point based on the brand Natsu found on him.
85	* MacGuffinSuperPerson: [[spoiler:Lucy]] doesn't have to eat or sleep thanks to the experiment done to [[spoiler:her]]. [[spoiler:She]] also has the ability to control light and calm people by tough, the latter at least is a natural ability of [[spoiler:her]] people.
86	* NightmareSequence: Lucy is given a drug that makes her live through various deaths she is afraid to go through. They feel very real to her.
87	* NoSocialSkills: Lucy is very shy do to the isolation she been put through during her time as a test subject. Some encouragement from Natsu and Erza gets her to be a little more open with them. [[spoiler: When she tries to interact with Gary when they are alone on the ship he tries to get her leave him alone with some spite in his tone]]. She doesn't take the hint. Either that or she does see it but [[{{Determinator}} ignores it]] to get to know him.

89	** Lucy makes note that the Council and Alliance are probably not so different with how they gain people. Natsu notes that although he wasn't taken like she had been, he does feel restricted.
90	** Gray thinks about this later on when a talk with Juvia reveals that the non-Alliance sympathetic Ameri colony doesn't really like the Council either but they are in desperate need of help.

92	** The damaged ship the crew arrives at. It was completely destroyed with no survivors and when Natsu and Gray go aboard to find a cargo they had been sent to obtain a pieace of metal came flying at them. To clarify they are out in the vacuum of space. Things don't move in space without force. Add to the fact that they can't hear anything due to their being no air just adds to the creepiness. Not to mention the last transmission sent out was pretty much telling people to stay away. Once they find what they are looking for they are more then happy to leave. [[EldritchAbomination Turns out that they were right to be creeped out]].
93	** Juvia makes a clear threat to Gray and Lucy that if they betray the Amerans' trust and contact the Council they will flood the chamber that their ship is in and leave them to starvation and insanity. Something the Amerans apparently have suffered from. The simple idea of that is terrifying.
94	* NotUsedToFreedom: After being locked up in a lab for five years, Lucy isn't use to the new freedom she now has aboard the ship she has been hidden away on. Only some coaxing from Natsu and Erza gets her to leave her room, even then she is rather timid.
95	* TheNeutralZone: The Rim is the unofficial name for the strip of space between the Council and Alliance's sections of control. It is filled with independent planets and colonies. Lucy's home world happened to be among them.
96	* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Jellal was able to get Lucy away from the Alliance by hijacking the ship that was transferring her to a new facility.
97	* PaperThinDisguise: Out of fear that word about her will get back to the Alliance while on Ameri Lucy ends up wearing oversized hoodie and a wash clover over her face. Without those she stands out with all the lights on her body.
98	** Later, after she gets her nose healed, she wears a mask to cover her low face with Gray playing if off to the Amerans that its a culture thing.
99	* PinnedToTheWall: Natsu gets pinned to a metal container in the greenhouse of the ship when a sword is thrown through his shoulder.
100	* PlantPerson: Lucy makes a comparison when Erza enquires how she functions. [[spoiler: She still needs water like any normal person and still needs some nutrients but she gets most of her energy from light.]] Later shown that if she can't get natural light she will need to sleep.

102	* RaisedInALab: Lucy was taken at a young age by the Balam Alliance to be experiment on, along with others, to find a way to create [[SuperSoldier Super Soldiers]] for eight years. It seems she went through hell from what they did to her. Possibly worse then any of the other test subjects as she was the only one who came closest to the Alliance's goal. Jellal found out what the Alliance was doing and [[EscapedFromTheLab intercepted the ship transporting Lucy to a new facility and freeing her]] before dropping her on Erza's crew.
103	* RememberedTooLate: After finally finishing everything up on Ameri the crew is ready to leave. Just one problem when they try to jump to light speed. Then engine room is still trashed from the [[spoiler: tentacle monster]].
104	* SecretKeeper: Obviously the Amerans' are going to have some questions after Lucy's little light show. Its made clear that Erza did tell them something and that the Alliance must not find out where Lucy is. Juvia tells Gray that they will not say anything to anyone about it.
105	* ShrinkingViolet: Lucy is a bit of one. Understandable given what she has been through. She is very reserved about sharing her past with the others. Natsu has succeeded in getting a little bit out her such as her home planet and how long she was held by the Alliance.
106	* SingleBiomePlanet: The planet, Ameri, that the crew goes to for a diplomacy mission is covered entirely by water. No points for guess who they are going to run into.
107	* TheSleepless: Thanks to the "benefits" on the experiments that [[spoiler: Lucy]] went through she no longer has to sleep as long as she is able to get star light to replenish her energy.
108	* SpaceIsNoisy: Adverted. When Natsu and Gray are out in their EVA suites its noted that there is no sound beyond the vibrations they feel through their suites.
109	* StreetUrchin: What Natsu was before he was recruited by the Council.
110	* SuperSoldier: [[spoiler: What the Alliance was trying to create through their experiments on Lucy and others.]]
111	* TakingTheBullet: Gray does this for Juvia during the assault on the sympathizers' base. He tackles her to the ground before she can be hit by a blast only to take the hit in the leg himself.
112	* TeethClenchedTeamwork: It seems this is how the Amerans would view their relation with the Council if the original deal fell through as it would be exchanging one servitude with another. So, when [[spoiler: Gray and Lucy]] need help rescuing [[spoiler: Erza and Natsu]] they take a chance to amend it.
113	* {{Teleportation}}: Has two varients of this. The standered teleporting from one spot to another. Then there is being able to transports ones mind to a clone body across light-years. The latter appears to be temporary.

[[spoiler: She was the most successful test subject the Alliance had for their SuperSoldier program meaning she doesn't need to eat or sleep much. She can also manipulate light and calm people by touch. The latter at least is a natural ability of her people.]]
116	* UnderwaterCity: With the entire planet being covered by water the Ameri civilization have to have such a thing to some degree. On their diplomatic mission to the planet, Erza and Natsu arrive at a single large structurer underwater. Being that the Amerian's are deep sea miners it is likely the complex is much large under the seabed. There are only two of these. The one that asked for help and the other being sympathetic to the [[spoiler: Alliance]].
117	* VehicularSabotage: in order to get the Alliance curiser to fall out of lightspeed so that the Shadow Gear and Thunderbird can catch up, Levy plants a bomb in the engine room and sets it off.
118	* WeUsedToBeFriends: What the [[spoiler: non-Alliance sympathizers]] of Ameri feel towards the ones that are. These feelings are strong enough that even though the sympathizers have done a number of wrongs on to them they don't wish to do the same to them. They are very determined to settle things with the sympathizers on their terms rather then let the Council handle it.
119	** The loyalist however don't seem have the same feelings for them. More then willing to be brutal when a fight breaks out.
120	** Heavily hinted that [[spoiler: Gajeel]], who is with the loyalist, was the one who taught Juvia English. She is clearly upset over him being with the loyalist.
121	* WretchedHive: Accordioning to Natsu the planet Invit was one. During the war he ended up on it after his home world was taken where apart from the man that raised him and the mother and daughter that patched him up whenever he was hurt, most people only look out for themselves. Oh, and slavery was a thing based on the brand he finds on Gajeel during their scuffle. Even with all that in consideration something really bad happened to it that even Natsu considers it a tragedy.
122	* YouRemindMeOfX: Despite his injures, after the prison break Natsu chases after one of his captors due to the familiarity that he can't place. Once he catches up they breakout into a fight where Natsu eventually finds a brand on the man. The man's appearance and accent already pointed to him being from off world due to not looking like the other Amerans. But the brand reveals to Natsu why the man was so familiar to him. It's a slave brand, along with the man's appearance and accent, from the planet Invit. A world where Natsu grew up on during the war.
