''[[http://archiveofourown.org/works/7463748 Hop To It]]'' is a completed ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' fanfic by lpofdestiny, published at Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn.

Moving to a new place is hard enough for any fifteen-year-old, but imagine being separated from your boyfriend, having to learn a new language, and, oh yeah, getting off on the wrong foot with the local superhero by accidentally destroying half the neighborhood. For Jaclyn “Jack” Smith, her transition to life in Paris is anything but easy, but for Rabbit, her superhero alter ego, there are darker forces at work. Let Ladybug and Cat Noir deal with Hawk Moth. She has her own set of problems.

A prequel side-story focused on Swan Princess and the Guardian, ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/19103296/chapters/45390109 Spread My Wings]]'' has been completed.

----
!! ''Hop To It'' contains examples of:

* AccidentalMisnaming: Rabbit routinely calls Chat Noir "Cat Noir", apparently unable to pronounce ''Chat'' properly at first. He corrects her the first time, but seems to accept it later. [[spoiler:Becomes a plot point when Perro Negro does the same thing but the Chameleon holder impersonating him doesn't, which is what convinces Chat Noir that "Perro" is an imposter.]]
* AccidentalTruth: When the heroes are about to infiltrate [=DyTech=] late at night in search of information on Omega, Chat Noir proposes they tell security there's an akuma in the building. Before he even finishes that suggestion, an akuma shows up nearby and ''does'' break into the [=DyTech=] building.
* AffectionateNickname: Rabbit gets "''Mi conejito''" from Perro Negro. [[spoiler:She later picks up "Bitty" from Firefly.]] Diego gets '''DR''' from Evie.
* AliceAllusion: When Rabbit shows up slightly behind schedule for a meeting with the other heroes at Notre Dame, Chat Noir tells her, "[[WesternAnimation/AliceInWonderland You’re late, you’re late, for a very important date]]."
* AlternateUniverse: Seems to be diverging from the later events of season 1, at the very least being set before "Volpina", as Ladybug states that she still doesn't know who gave her and Chat their Miraculouses, and Lila is nowhere to be seen. Confirmed when the [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E01StormyWeather Climatika]] and [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E03Copycat Copycat]] attacks occur in the time skip between chapters 8 and 9. Further confirmed when Jack is mentioned to have turned into one of [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E19Reflekta Reflekta's]] clones in chapter 18.
* AndTheAdventureContinues: [[spoiler: Even with Omega and Hawk Moth neutralised, the Peacock Miraculous gets taken and used by a new supervillain, prolonging the heroes’ fight for the foreseeable future]].
* AnimalEaredHeadband: Cottontail wears one of these with rabbit ears, which is where her akuma is. When Rabbit sees it after the fight, she recognises that it was made by her former best friend Cadence.
* AnswerCut: Towards the end of the HowWeGotHere section of Chapter 6:
-->'''Chat Noir''': So, LB. What's the plan?\
'''Ladybug''': (''To Rabbit'') The plan was for you to gain Cottontail’s trust, figure out her weakness, and lure her away from Alya so Chat and I could rescue her. What was so hard about that?
* AntagonistTitle: As with the TV series, most chapters are named after the VillainOfTheWeek, the exceptions being Chapter 1, "Jack Hammer" (the nickname for Rabbit when she's mistaken for an akuma, which sticks with people who still think she's a villain in later chapters), Chapter 5, "Rabbit" (her origin story), and Chapter 16, "Ambush", [[spoiler:Praying Mantis's persona when undercover as a villain]].
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Members of the media and people of Paris seem confused and not sure what to think about Rabbit, despite this taking place in the information age and Rabbit having a well-publicized career back in Los Angeles. Admittedly, she has caused a lot of damage thanks to her power swap, but given that she and her partner helped found "Positivity Clubs," and that Rabbit has actual fans who take offense to Alya's videos, it's somewhat odd that she's remained a mystery to Paris. Changed later during rewrites to people being suspicious if she's the real Rabbit or an imposter.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: When Ladybug tries to force Rabbit to stay out of the Lock Pick battle because of her screw-up against Sequana, Rabbit replies, "Like you've never made a mistake before? Please, Ladybug. This is important to me." Ladybug relents, no doubt because she's reminded of her own mistake with Jack.
* ArousedByTheirVoice: Perro Negro's voice is described as, "the kind of velvety voice that made you feel safe and protected. The kind that made you fall in love." Though admittedly, said person describing his voice is Rabbit, who is already in love with Perro, so there's a good chance of bias there.
* TheAtoner: During the Road Rage attack, Rabbit tries to make up for the damage she caused yesterday by helping as many civilians as she can.
* BackToBackBadasses: Ladybug and Rabbit against Lock Pick.
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler: Rabbit's plan to both defeat Nanny Mite and draw out Chameleon, as summed up by the heroes after it succeeds.]] [[spoiler:However, at this point Rabbit realises that she doesn't have enough time on her Miraculous to actually apprehend him, and he knows that.]]
-->'''Rabbit''': It’s not hard to figure out you monitor the Ladyblog to keep tabs on us. (''Pulls up a Ladyblog video of the fight at the library'') You knew our weapons got taken over. And with no way for me to check Ladybug or Cat Noir's identities, I knew you’d try to make your move. So I purposely went to a public place by myself where you would be able to find me.\
'''Ladybug''': And remember this video? (''plays another video of her talking to Alya, explaining that Chat Noir had used Cataclysm to help them escape, and that her plan to defeat Nanny Mite involved using her civilian identity'')\
'''Chat Noir''': And you thought disguising yourself as Ladybug was ''your'' idea.\
'''Ladybug''': After that, we only needed to get my yo-yo back and then trick Nanny Mite into capturing you, giving me the time I needed to use Lucky Charm.\
'''Chameleon''': (''smirks'') Ah, I see. So you used me as a distraction. Clever.
* BattleCouple: Jack/Rabbit and Diego/Perro Negro. In contrast to the series' Love Square, they both fell for the other's superhero forms before they unmasked for each other, and while they hadn't been especially close in civilian form they weren't disappointed either.
* BigBadEnsemble: Hawk Moth and Omega. It remains to be seen how they'll interact with each other, but it seems they're not working together ''yet'': [[spoiler:In chapter 9, Hawk Moth sends an akuma after a device called the Beacon, which he could use to lure the other kwami to him once he has enough DNA from his own. To the heroes' very slight relief, the device has already been stolen when the akuma got there, most likely by Omega or someone working for him. Rabbit is confident that Omega doesn't have enough DNA samples to use it.]] This later progressses to BigBadDuumvirate, when [[spoiler:Chapter 17 reveals Omega and Hawk Moth ''are'' working together, to the point of knowing each other's identities, and have been for some time: it's revealed that Hawk Moth akumatised Dr. Lacasse on Omega's request after being promised the use of the beacon, but because Rabbit prevented him from getting it, he wants to end the deal.]] As such, this may now qualify as EvilVsEvil.
* BigBrotherInstinct: [[spoiler:Praying Mantis develops one for Rabbit after realising how young she is, standing up for her when Nymph mocks her for being fooled by Omega.]]
* BigDamnHeroes:
** At one point during the Road Rage attack, he has Ladybug pinned down by the neck, unable to reach her yo-yo and very close to losing her earrings. Rabbit arrives just in time, throwing her chakaram and hitting him between the shoulder blades, distracting him from Ladybug entirely.
** [[spoiler:Perro's arrival during the Pygmalion battle saves the other three heroes, although it turns out to be a VillainousRescue when he's revealed to be an imposter.]]
* BigWhat: Alya's reaction when Jack first mentions her boyfriend.
* BlindIdiotTranslation: A lot of the French dialogue apparently falls into this, thanks to Google Translate, though some of it has since been proofread.
* BlindedByTheLight: [[spoiler:Firefly's superpower, Bioluminescence, apparently equivalent to the Bee Miraculous power of subjection.]]
* BothSidesHaveAPoint: After Alya posts her video attacking Rabbit, Jack and Nino discuss posting a rebuttal video with more positive news clips, interviews with anyone she's saved or even Rabbit herself if they can find her. Adrien objects to the idea, arguing that Alya will come around if they give Ladybug and Chat Noir time to set her straight, and Mimmi tells Jack that this will make the rift between Alya and Nino worse, and that if she's going to clear her name it doesn't have to be at Alya's expense. Jack is less than sympathetic on this point, arguing that Alya has a lot of influence and should be better about fact-checking when posting conspiracy theories. [[DebateAndSwitch The argument becomes moot]] when Alya gets kidnapped by Cottontail in the middle of Nino's interview with Rabbit, and Nino admits that the video wasn't the best idea.
-->I mean, it made sense at the time, but that’s not really gonna help you. We gotta build you up, dude, and not by cutting others down.
* BriarPatching: [[spoiler:Oliver Bergeron ordered Rabbit and her allies to destroy the beacon to keep it from falling into the wrong hands, thus tricking her into disobeying him to bring the remaining Kwamis to Paris. Evie tells Jack that her grandfather is an expert at this kind of ReversePsychology.]]
* BriefAccentImitation:
** Chloé puts on a pretty good American accent while posing as Rabbit.
** [[spoiler:Chameleon puts on a thick southern accent while posing as a female Miraculous holder, which is probably helped by his powers.]]
* BrokenPedestal:
** In chapter 19, [[spoiler:Firefly's trust in Rabbit is shaken when she finds out about her lie to Nymph. "Do you actually believe I’m a good hero, or were you lying to me too?"]]
** Soon after this, [[spoiler:Rabbit's trust in Perro Negro is destroyed when she learns that he had his Miraculous for months before deciding to help her.]]
* BruceWayneHeldHostage:
** Adrien is captured at the start of the La Femme Defamation attack (which, like every other Akuma attack, is intended to draw out Ladybug and Chat Noir), but gets freed with help from Ladybug and Jack and comes back as Chat Noir.
** In Chapter 11, Marinette, Adrien and Jack are arrested by Phoenix's minions for not supporting him.
** Chapter 18 mentions that Jack was caught up in Reflekta's attack and turned into a clone before she could transform.
* BullfightBoss: Road Rage, though it's not how he's ultimately defeated.
* ButHeSoundsHandsome: Downplayed when Jack tries to defend Rabbit to Alya, then inverted after the Sequana attack when she agrees with Alya and Marinette that she did more harm than good.
* ByThePowerOfGraySkull: Like the canon heroes, Jack/Rabbit has "Mimmi! [[TitleDrop Hop to it!]]", and Diego/Perro Negro has "Wrekk! Bare my teeth!" To drop her transformation, Rabbit says "All hopped out."
* CapeSnag: In Chapter 19, Jack subdues an akuma by grabbing his cape when he tries to run.
* ChangedMyMindKid: [[spoiler:Nymph deserts the team when she finds out Rabbit was the one responsible for dragging her to Paris, not Omega. However, she returns to rescue the heroes from False Hood because she needs Rabbit in one piece to disable the beacon keeping her in Paris.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: Lalita Patel, the random model that pops up in Chapter 15 and then disappears from the plot, [[spoiler:turns out to be Nymph]].
* ChronicHeroSyndrome:
** More than once Jack has promised herself or the other heroes that she won't transform again, but the next time an akuma attacks, Rabbit does what she can. [[spoiler:She does sit out a few akuma attacks after her screw-up with Sequana, but at the same time she hasn't given up on trying to get Dogstruction under control.]]
** [[spoiler:Played with by Praying Mantis, who mentions a couple of times that he never ignores a call for help, but he's also openly resistant to getting involved in the fight against Omega's group to the point of trying to find where Rabbit hid the beacon so he can leave Paris. When Rabbit catches him and calls him out on it, he replies that she and her team aren't in any immediate danger. However, she has his loyalty by the end of the chapter.]]
* CloneDegeneration: Played with regarding the Recree kwamis. While kwami DNA doesn't decompose, [[spoiler:thus presumably making it ideal for use in the Beacon, the DNA sample from the Chameleon recree Hokss is partially decomposed, enough that the villains weren't able to use it. However, Mr. Bergeron attributes this to Hokss being a less powerful Kwami, stating that samples from Mimmi and Wrekk would be strong enough. This is confirmed when Jack manages to use Mimmi to activate it.]]
* ComesGreatResponsibility: Referenced in Chapter 16 by [[spoiler:Praying Mantis, who ironically uses it as an excuse not to get involved, because he doesn't want to be responsible for things going as badly as they did when he tried to save the mountain climber.]]
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Chloé's reaction to being rescued by Rabbit during the Sequana attack, refusing to go with anyone other than Ladybug. Rabbit ignores her and simply picks her up and leaves. Chloé later refuses to give Rabbit any credit for it when she's brought to her father.
* ContrivedCoincidence:
** The fact that the Paris media's nickname for Rabbit has the word "Jack" in it.
** In chapter 10, the Pygmalion attack starts shortly after Jack and Alix were looking at a statue at the Grand Palais called ''Pygmalion et Galatée'', which Alix explained to her. When Rabbit hears the akuma's name, she replies, "Oh, no way!" to Chat's confusion.
* CreepyChild: The children of Paris act this way while being controlled by Nanny Mite.
* DeadlyDodging: Rabbit uses it against Road Rage, getting him to run at her before jumping up, bouncing off his helmet, then letting him crash into a tree.
* DeathOrGloryAttack: Chapter 17 reveals the defeat of Trumpeter Swan was this. [[spoiler:Rabbit effectively used herself as bait to lure him out of hiding with the possibility of getting her Miraculous. Succeed, and they capture LA's biggest villain. Fail, and they hand him the Rabbit Miraculous on a silver platter.]]
* {{Deconstruction}}: Jack's double life is noted to have destroyed her social life and ruined four of her childhood friendships. In addition, without Miraculous Ladybug to invoke HeroInsurance, Rabbit's reputation in Paris goes down the toilet with extreme prejudice.
* DestructiveSaviour: Rabbit, thanks to the Dogstruction ability, though she tends to only be one of these at a time: she saves plenty of people during the Road Rage attack before casting Dogstruction, Ladybug included, but afterwards, while she does manage to make it work to their advantage in capturing the akuma, she doesn't exactly save anyone else directly. The only time she's used it intentionally and saved someone afterward, it's pointed out that she had other options (namely, waiting for Ladybug to cast Lucky Charm).
* DidntThinkThisThrough: A recurring flaw of Jack/Rabbit - it's pointed out repeatedly that she usually has good ideas but they tend to backfire because she doesn't think through all the consequences, starting with her decision to use the Rabbit Miraculous and draw out Omega in the first place, which caused him to send Trumpeter Swan to Los Angeles. It comes to a head when she uses Dogstruction to free Chat from Sequana and causes a lot of damage to the Seine riverbank, believing it was their only option. Ladybug is quick to tell her that no, it wasn't, since she hadn't even used Lucky Charm yet. [[spoiler:She's been getting a lot better since then, learning to consult with Ladybug and Chat Noir in advance.]]
* DirtyCop: Rabbit and Perro Negro tried to involve the LAPD in their search for Trumpeter Swan, but they eventually found out that the Chief had been in Omega's pocket the whole time, to the point of [[spoiler:leaking to Trumpeter Swan that Rabbit would be leaving Los Angeles]]. Jack doesn't hold it against him, as he confessed and revealed that Omega had threatened his family, [[spoiler:but it's the reason given for why Oliver Bergeron refuses to involve the Paris authorities in finding the Beacon.]]
* DoesNotLikeMen: Anita Blaylock, somewhat justified by the fact that she was a brilliant scientist whose male coworkers frequently took credit for her research. The narration notes that she made exceptions for her husband Greg, her son Greg Jr, and her son-in-law (Jack's father), and "even those three exceptions seemed to be pushing it."
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Hinted at in Chapter 17 when [[spoiler:Jack learns that Omega was planning to legitimately hire "Ambush", meaning that Chameleon must have gone rogue and tried to take the Mantis Miraculous for himself]].
* DramaPreservingHandicap: Jack's power swap is assumed to be because she unmasked to her partner, Diego. Had her powers remained the same during the transfer, she would have arrived in Paris with the same Akuma-purifying powers as Ladybug and the ability to fix her own damages. What's more, she could have told Ladybug and Chat Noir that it'd be okay for them to reveal who they are to each other, since there weren't any real downsides for her and Diego. Instead, thanks to the aforementioned power swap, Jack breaks nearly everything she touches and warns the other heroes not to unmask, preventing her from having it too easy and solving the love square in one chapter.
* DramaticIrony: All over the place, since Jack is the viewpoint character and she regularly interacts with the canon heroes in and out of costume. Even aside from that issue, there are moments such as during Jack's first conversation with Adrien, when he flashes her a smile that the narration describes as "like he was a model in a catalogue or something." As she finds out the next day, he is.
* {{Duck}}: Played with:
-->'''Chat Noir''': Sequana is the Gallo-Roman goddess of the River Seine. Seems your mythology is a little rusty. I could tutor you, if you’d like. (''waggles his eyebrows at her'')\
'''Ladybug''': Duck. (''swings her yo-yo in the direction of his head, presumably at one of Sequana's tentacles'')\
'''Chat Noir''': (''while ducking'') Ducks were actually her familiars! Looks like you don’t need my help after all.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Rabbit starts feeling this after a while when it becomes apparent that a lot of people would rather face an akuma than see her coming to the rescue. It should be noted that, aside from her Dogstruction-related screw-ups, she actually has a better track record than Ladybug, since she and Perro seem to have been fighting a lot longer, they never let an akuma get away the way Ladybug did with Stoneheart, and they managed to track down and defeat their nemesis Trumpeter Swan (if not quite in the way they wanted to) while Hawk Moth remains hidden. But there's no indication the Paris media are aware of this, or that they bothered to dig into her background at all during that first week.
* EasilyForgiven: After Jack learns about the stunt Marinette pulled with the replica of Chloé's outfit, part of her wants to yell at her for making assumptions. Instead, she mostly feels relieved that she didn't actually do anything to earn Marinette and Alya's ire, and tells her there's no hard feelings.
** Jack later brings up with Marinette that she knows how it feels for someone to hold a grudge against her because of her mistakes, referring in part to Ladybug's reaction to her reckless actions in the battle against Sequana, but also to her friends back in Los Angeles, who eventually shut her out because of how many times she let them down due to something Rabbit-related.
--->My mom always says you can’t change the past. The best you can do to learn from it. And I learned that I don’t want anyone to feel the way I felt, so I try to be as forgiving and understanding as possible. I’ve always been that way, I guess, but, like, more now that I was before.
** Marinette seems to take this to heart, as Ladybug shows signs of forgiving Rabbit later in the chapter.
* ElNinoIsSpanishForTheNino: When Chat Noir describes Lock Pick:
-->'''Chat Noir''': (''in English for Rabbit's benefit'') He's right there. He’s dressed in a… (''in French'') how do you say Morphsuit in English?\
'''Ladybug/Rabbit''': Morphsuit.
* EurekaMoment: [[spoiler:When Dr. Lacasse explains how the Beacon is supposed to work (using a DNA sample from a rare species to attract other specimens), he states that it won't work yet because "the process causes rapid decomposition in the sample." Rabbit recalls Ladybug telling her that Kwami DNA doesn't decompose, and realises Omega must have stolen the beacon to find them, and Hawk Moth sent an akuma to do the same thing.]]
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Oliver Bergeron turns out to be Omega.]]
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: Early in Chapter 11, Jack is feeling down about Diego and believing he's about to break up with her, to the point where she thinks she's about to be akumatised. When it doesn't happen:
--> Jack knew she should feel grateful that she hadn’t been targeted, but something didn’t sit right with her. Were her feelings not negative enough? Did Hawk Moth not want her anymore? Neither option felt true. Maybe he was busy, then. Maybe he—\
Jack’s eyes widened. Her sudden urgency caused her to stumble forward as she broke out into a run.\
'''Mimmi''': Jack…! What is it? What’s wrong!?\
'''Jack''': An Akuma can’t come for me if it’s already come for someone else!
* ExtremelyShortTimeSpan: Zig-zagged. The first six chapters take place within one school week, but there have been a few time skips since then.
* FailedASpotCheck: After Jack and Nino discuss making a rebuttal video to Alya's Ladyblog post, she decides to approach him as Rabbit and get him to ask her for an interview. Of course, she can't make it obvious she's looking for him, so she hops around on rooftops to get him to notice her from the street. This takes a while, due to a combination of NoPeripheralVision and HeadphonesEqualIsolation (since not only does Nino not see her, he doesn't hear the screams from the people around him who do). She eventually drops to the street in front of him, and after he approaches her in an alley, she has to hold back a snort when he says he's glad he spotted her. "She might as well have waved a neon flag in his face that said ‘FOLLOW ME.'"
* FakedKidnapping: One happened in Nymph's backstory. Her useless younger brother arranged his own kidnapping to pay off his gambling debts; Nymph was not amused when she found out.
* {{Fangirl}}:
** Colleen Johansson and her akuma form Cottontail both act like this upon meeting Rabbit, using a lot of the same lines. For comparison:
--->'''Cottontail''': ''[when Rabbit first arrives at the observatory]'' Rabbit! Omigosh omigosh omigosh! You’re here! I knew you would be able to find me! I knew it! Ahhhhhh! I can’t believe this is happening! This is the greatest—THE greatest thing that has ever happened to me, ever!\
'''Colleen''': ''[after being freed from her akuma]'' Rabbit! Omigosh omigosh omigosh! Ahhhhhh! I can’t believe this is happening!\
'''Rabbit''': I can.
** [[spoiler:Firefly as well, to both Rabbit and Nymph (who really doesn't appreciate it), likely overlapping with AscendedFangirl depending on when she got her Miraculous.]]
* FightingFromTheInside: When [[spoiler:Jack]] is akumatized, [[spoiler:Mimmi retains self-awareness inside her Miraculous and actively fights to usurp control of her body]].
* FlatWhat: Jack's reaction when [[spoiler:Evie explains to her that all she needs to do to fix her powers is cast Miraculous Rabbit.]]
* {{Foil}}: Diego's Kwami Wrekk is exceedingly polite, despite being cloned from [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Plagg]]. [[spoiler:When Rabbit briefly encounters him during the Lock Pick attack, she notes that he's Wrekk's antithesis, and idly wonders if Ladybug's Kwami is boring and monotonous. Not quite, but from what we see Mimmi is a lot more hotheaded than Tikki.]]
* GadgetWatches: The Rabbit Miraculous, created from a wristwatch that belonged to Jack's grandmother Anita Blaylock, which in turn had been a present from her daughter Jennifer.
* GenderBlenderName: Jack chooses to go by this after [[NeverHeardThatOneBefore hearing too many people guess]] (correctly) that she's [[NamedAfterSomebodyFamous named after]] ''Series/CharliesAngels'' star Creator/JaclynSmith. Her grandmother did not approve.
* {{Glamour}}: As in many other ''Miraculous'' fanfics, the series' use of ClarkKenting is justified by a glamour that prevents Miraculous holders from being recognised or otherwise identified unless they're seen in the act of transforming or they confess it directly. This likely explains why no one has drawn a connection between Rabbit and Jack, two Los Angeles teenagers who have just relocated to Paris in the same week (though it's not clear if Alya or anyone else has done that much research on Rabbit's background since she first showed up).
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler:Howard and Evie Jenson are introduced as the man who stole the Beacon and is working for Omega and his AmbiguouslyEvil wife who may or may not be in on his actions. It eventually turns out that Evie is the Guardian, Howard is her number two, and the man who claimed to be the Guardian is in fact Omega.]]
* GoodCounterpart: [[spoiler: With the help of the seven Recreé Miraculous, Jack becomes “the Alpha to [Julius’] Omega”.]]
* GotMeDoingIt: Rabbit starts copying Perro Negro's trademark salute while helping civilians during the Road Rage attack. Amusingly, she doesn't notice that she's picked it up from him until three days later.
* GratuitousLatin: A RunningGag with Dr. Lacasse, specifically regarding animals.
-->'''Dr. Lacasse''': Say you wished to find a rare specimen, such as a Dryococelus Australis. (''takes note of the blank looks on Rabbit and Chat Noir's faces.'') A tree lobster.\
(''The two burst out laughing.'')\
'''Rabbit''': Tree lobster? Really? That’s a thing?\
'''Dr. Lacasse''': That’s why I prefer Dryococelus Australis…
* GravityScrew: An akuma by this name and with this power appears in Chapter 15.
* GreenAesop: Chapter 7's villain Sequana was akumatised after her attempt to raise awareness of pollution of the Seine and protest it to the Mayor was ruined by Chloé.
* GreenEyedMonster: As in canon, Marinette's crush on Adrien can bring out the worst in her, and this time it's not directed at a jerk like Chloé or Lila but the completely innocent Jack, who had become friends with Adrien after he offered to show her around Paris and tutor her in French, since she doesn't know where anything is and doesn't speak the language that well. At first, she just treats her coldly without explanation, both as Marinette (after she approaches Marinette for help with an outfit on Adrien's recommendation) and as Ladybug (after she saves Adrien during the Femme Defamation attack), but it also leads to a rift with Alya when she wants to interview Jack for the Ladyblog the next day. After a few weeks of this, Marinette schemes to set her up with a replica of Chloé's favourite outfit. When Alya and Marinette find out that Jack has a boyfriend back in the US, they both scramble to prevent her "social suicide", and Marinette admits that what she did was wrong and would still have been wrong even if she hadn't misread the situation with Adrien.
* HandshakeSubstitute: Much like Ladybug and Chat Noir, Rabbit and Perro Negro celebrate their victories with a windmill high-low five, or a Film/TopGun high-five as Diego calls it.
* HatesMySecretIdentity: It goes back and forth with Jack/Rabbit. Rabbit is initially mistaken for an akuma and then for a villain in her own right after causing a lot of damage to a Paris neighbourhood, but Jack, while initially an outcast (an American transfer student with a limited grasp of French), gains some popularity from her classmates after helping save Adrien from an akuma out of costume. On the other hand, while Ladybug knows that Rabbit is a good person, Marinette spends several chapters hating Jack out of misguided jealousy, believing she's interested in Adrien. When Marinette finds out Jack has a boyfriend back in the US, she apologizes for her behaviour and she and Alya (who has since become a Rabbit supporter) make friends with her - just in time for Rabbit to screw up again and lose a lot of Ladybug's trust in her. However, they're on good terms by the end of Chapter 9.
** Lampshaded just before Rabbit first meets Chloé - "Maybe they could start fresh. It would be pretty funny if Chloé adored her as a superhero." - and then subverted when she hates Rabbit just as much as Jack.
* HeelRealization: Alya and Marinette's reactions when they learn that Jack has a boyfriend and that their already cruel prank was therefore entirely pointless.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: A variant in that Jack, the main protagonist, is a hero whose other story is on hiatus. Having defeated Trumpeter Swan before she left Los Angeles (albeit without recovering the Swan Miraculous), she's free to help Ladybug and Chat Noir as much as she can while in Paris. Interestingly, Jack in her story basically ''won'' the first round, defeating Trumpeter Swan (who has the same powers as Moth) and confessing to her Miraculous partner before Ladybug and Chat did theirs, though Jack herself doesn't see it that way because they failed to recover the Swan Miraculous or get any closer to Omega. [[spoiler:However, with the introduction of the Beacon in chapter 9, Chameleon's arrival in Chapter 10 and the subsequent confirmation that he is TheDragon to Omega, Jack's story is gradually taking center stage. By chapter 16, it can be argued that Ladybug and Chat Noir fit the trope better, with an akuma attack taking place offscreen while Rabbit's team attempt to get a lead on Omega.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity:
** Rabbit, whose Paris debut resulted in her causing over a million dollars in property damage and several injuries after she accidentally casts Dogstruction without realizing she could even do that. Chat Noir accepts her explanation quickly enough, as does Ladybug when Chat tells her, but Rabbit is first mistaken for an akuma by the media and then for a supervillain in her own right. She does earn a few more defenders when she helps out civilians during the Road Rage attack, including Nino, but the media continue to question whether she's a hero or a menace. Alya even makes a Ladyblog video painting "Jack Hammer" as an agent of Hawk Moth, which persuades most of her class, some of whom have family members that were affected by the first "rampage". Alya eventually turns around on her after she helps save her from Cottontail and makes her a second video with the other heroes, but Rabbit still hasn't quite escaped her "Jack Hammer" reputation. And while she can't exactly blame them for it, it does get frustrating when it seems like they'd rather see an akuma than her coming to help.
** In a curious case, this trope only applies to Jack ''after'' she came to Paris. She had fans and a large number of supporters back in Los Angeles, but very little of that seems to have made its way to Paris (which seems especially odd in the Information Age). [[spoiler:Chapter 19 attempts to HandWave this by revealing that Omega was suppressing information about Rabbit to avoid attracting attention from the Order of the Guardians or the holders of the original Miraculous, this would later be changed in rewrites.]]
** Ladybug and Chat Noir get a turn of this when they encounter Phoenix, an akuma who warps reality so that he is the hero and they are just another couple of akuma.
** [[spoiler:Praying Mantis was hit with this after his botched attempt to save a mountain climber in a storm, ironically because people assumed that he hadn't tried to do anything. This has an impact on him when he's sent undercover posing as a villain to get draw out Omega's group.]]
* HeroicBSOD: During the first chapter, Jack ends up broken enough by her first day at school and by her disastrous "rampage" as Rabbit that she takes off her Miraculous, sits down and waits for the inevitable akuma, deciding she's not going to resist it this time. Luckily, Adrien comes in and pulls her out of it with his kindness, and she puts the watch back on after Adrien picks it up.
* HeroInsurance: A concern for Rabbit, whose newly acquired Dogstruction ability is devastating when used, and can't be fixed by [[WorldHealingWave Miraculous Ladybug]]. When she accidentally uses it in the first chapter, it's stated to have caused over a million dollars in property damage and caused a number of injuries, though no apparent deaths, and that's just from her running down the street to get away from an akuma butterfly. When she uses it later, after it's been established that Ladybug can't fix the damage, she gets called out for her recklessness.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Rabbit is forced to adjust to somehow acquiring her partner's power, Dogstruction, which activates when she tries to cast Lucky Strike. After finding an abandoned quarry outside the city, she attempts to learn to control it with coaching from Diego via Skype.
* HowWeGotHere:
** Chapter 1 opens with Jack being targeted by an akuma butterfly, transforming into Rabbit, and trying and failing to purify it. She then tries to use Lucky Strike, only to somehow cast Dogstruction instead and tear up the street while trying to escape. After she asks herself "How did everything come to this?", we flash back a few hours.
** Chapter 6 opens with a bit of {{Superdickery}}, as Rabbit seemingly sides with an akuma called Cottontail after she kidnaps Alya. Again, it then flashes back a few hours for some context.
* HypocriticalHumour: [[PungeonMaster Chat Noir]] dismisses "Dogstruction" as [[LamePunReaction a terrible pun]]. Rabbit calls him out on it: "This from a guy who just said 'I don’t carrot all'?"
* IdiotBall: [[spoiler:Rabbit apprehends Chameleon and restrains him using her chakram, before tying him up tighter with his own whip. Her goal is to distract him by talking until his Miraculous times out. However, she ends up taking the chakram back to bring up a photo of Evelynn Jenson and question him about her. She gets the answer she needs, but also gives him the opportunity to escape, due to underestimating his own control over the whip. Mimmi points out this oversight once they get back home: "You probably should’ve shown Chameleon that picture of Evelynn ''after'' his Miraculous ran out…"]]
* ImNotAHeroIm: [[spoiler:Praying Mantis sees himself as "a holder, nothing more." [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre Rabbit tries to convinces him otherwise]], pointing out that him keeping Roadd so that no one will abuse his power is heroic in itself.]]
* ImaginaryFriend: Chapter 4 has an akuma named Imagineur, a young boy who gets upset after his mother tells him his imaginary friend Fort isn't real. The akuma essentially makes Fort a NotSoImaginaryFriend, albeit invisible to most people. Alya guesses the reason she can see it is because she plays pretend with her little sisters all the time, whereas Ladybug, Chat Noir and Jack don't have any siblings. In addition, when Ladybug casts Lucky Charm, no one except Alya can see what it gave her, a FreezeRay. "Jack realized the only thing that could defeat an imaginary friend was an imaginary weapon."
* ImaginaryLoveTriangle: Marinette thinks that Jack is interested in Adrien, only finding out she has a boyfriend after she sets the outfit prank into motion. While Jack ''was'' sticking very close to Adrien, it was because [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe he was the only one to treat her kindly on her first day]] and he's her French tutor and interpreter (as she can't speak it fluently at first).
* ImagineSpot: Jack has one in Chapter 15 after [[spoiler:she misleads Nymph about what summoned her and her kwami to Paris, suspecting that Ladybug would hate her for it because of her BerserkButton about liars. It goes off on a rather amusing tangent about Firefly's nickname for her.]]
* InASingleBound: Part of Rabbit's abilities, not too surprisingly. At one point she clears a hundred feet.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: In Chapter 17, [[spoiler:when Rabbit remembers that Trumpeter Swan knew she was leaving Los Angeles, she realizes that the only person he could have got that information from was the chief of the LAPD.]]
* TheInfiltration: In Chapter 16, [[spoiler:Rabbit's team attempt to pass off Praying Mantis as a supervillain for hire to lure out Omega's group. After an operation lasting several weeks, "Ambush" successfully gets in contact with one of them by offering up Firefly's secret identity, but it backfires at the last minute when Chameleon reveals himself and tries to capture him, forcing Nymph to intervene to save him.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: [[spoiler:Chloé causing the Phoenix akuma was a case of this, by her standards. When she interrupted her father's meeting to ask him about creating a day to celebrate Ladybug and Chat Noir and suggested replacing Bastille Day, she unwittingly pissed off a member of the Paris fire brigade because it would have meant canceling the parade]].
* InspectorJavert: Alya crosses into this with her investigation of Rabbit. After she comes to suspect that she's working with Hawk Moth, she starts spinning all the evidence that she can in that direction (such as the footage she got of Rabbit trying to calm down Imagineur), while dismissing everything else (the eyewitness accounts of her helping civilians during the Road Rage attack, including Nino), and also apparently makes no effort to dig into her background in Los Angeles. She comes around after Rabbit helps Ladybug and Chat Noir save her from Cottontail.
* InternalReveal: In Chapter 21, [[spoiler:Ladybug and Chat Noir save Perro Negro when he attempts to fight Cybit alone and find out that he's Diego, and by extension figure out that Rabbit is Jack.]]
* IronicEcho: [[spoiler:When Mimmi calls Jack on her insecurities about Diego, she says "You are being ridiculous! You and I both know that you’re the only girl for Diego. Be more positive." The next day, Jack sees Marinette getting jealous of Adrien and Chloé and starts repeating this, almost word for word, despite noticing halfway through that she's parroting Mimmi.]]
* ISurrenderSuckers: In Chapter 17, [[spoiler:Rabbit, desperate to capture Trumpeter Swan before she leaves Los Angeles, gets herself captured by Comikaze and brought to his hideout. It works, thanks to Diego tracking her.]]
* ItsAllMyFault:
** Jack is seen excessively blaming herself for the "Jack Hammer" rampage, even though she had no way of knowing that her powers had changed. She also blames herself for failing to recover the Swan Miraculous, despite Mimmi trying to assure her she did the best she could with the time she had.
** Downplayed with the Cottontail attack. After the negative publicity against Rabbit leads to Alya getting kidnapped by an akuma over her video, Chat Noir notes that he and Ladybug feel partially responsible for letting the media draw their own conclusions about her for so long.
** [[spoiler:In the Phoenix attack, Ladybug refuses to take the advice her Lucky Charm gave her because it means talking to Chloé, drawing the attack out for another day and allowing Phoenix to basically take over Paris. She acknowledges that she's at fault when she shows up at the Agreste mansion.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: Lalita Patel, introduced in Chapter 15, is one of Marinette's favourite supermodels and an apparent friend of Chloe, resulting in a severely BrokenPedestal when she insults Rabbit and Los Angeles in general in front of Jack. [[spoiler:The same chapter introduces Nymph, the Dragonfly Miraculous holder who similarly hates Rabbit (at least until she tells her a HalfTruth about why she left Los Angeles) and acts dismissively to the other heroes, especially Firefly. [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold To her credit]], she still acts somewhat heroically during the Gravity Screw attack and seems to hate Chloe as much as everyone else, telling her that Lalita is probably only friends with her out of professional courtesy. She also apologises to Rabbit for misjudging her.]] Chapter 20 confirms [[spoiler:they're the same individual]].
* KickTheDog: Marinette, blinded by jealousy of Jack's friendship with and presumed romantic interest in Adrien, schemes to trick her into wearing a knockoff of Chloé's outfit, which would have inevitably ended in disaster for poor Jack (and also wouldn't have done much for Marinette, since Adrien was the one who recommended her). To her credit, she does scramble to get Jack out of trouble when she finds out about Diego, and it takes a few chapters for her to get over her guilt about her actions.
* KidSidekick: Chapter 6's akuma victim Colleen is a preteen American girl who was a fan of Rabbit when they both still lived in California. When she gets upset about Alya's video painting Rabbit as a villain, she gets akumatised into Cottontail, who presents herself as Rabbit's sidekick.
* KidsAreCruel: Jack doesn't get the best treatment from her classmates on her first day, as even the nicer ones such as Rose don't seem particularly sympathetic to her inexperience with French or being a newcomer to Paris, and it almost gets her akumatised during lunch. Adrien helps turn things around for her, admitting that he should have approached her himself earlier, and by the end of Chapter 7 most of the class are much friendlier to her, aside from Chloé and Sabrina. Unfortunately, because Adrien was paying attention to someone who ''wasn't'' her, Alya and Marinette fall headlong into this trope, planning a cruel prank and giving Jack the cold shoulder until they're told that Jack has a boyfriend and isn't interested in Adrien.
* KillItWithWater: [[spoiler:Nanny Mite controls the children of Paris with {{nanomachines}} that are vulnerable to water, which is neatly set up when Alya says that the twins were acting like normal when she took them to the pool. The heroes ultimately defeat her using a fire hydrant.]]
* LanguageBarrier: Jack's grasp of French is limited at first, though most of her classmates can communicate with her in English when they want to. She's gotten much better by Chapter 7, thanks to tutoring from Adrien.
* LanguageFluencyDenial: As Jack becomes more fluent in French, she decides that Rabbit will act as if she only speaks and understands English.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: After [[spoiler: being pulled out of the portal they were trapped in, Jack and Omega have lost all their memories of a normal life. Jack regains hers, Omega doesnt]].
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
-->She was thankful for the semi-darkness for hiding her face as she looked across the way at Marinette and Adrien. For a brief moment, Jack entertained the idea that they were Ladybug and Cat Noir, but easily dismissed it. Clumsy Marinette was the graceful Ladybug? Dutiful Adrien was the crazy Cat Noir? Jack shook her head. The chances that her superhero friends were in her class in a city as large as Paris was flat out improbable, especially after she ended up knowing who Perro Negro really was in Los Angeles, which was an even bigger city. Besides, Jack almost felt like choking on the irony of Marinette liking Adrien and Cat Noir liking Ladybug if they were the same people. That would mean they were in some sort of Love Square with each other, which made a great basis for fan fiction, but not so much in real life.
* LiarRevealed: Rabbit's lie to [[spoiler:Nymph]] comes back to bite her in [[spoiler:Chapter 19]].
* LimitedWardrobe: Subverted, in that a few characters who fall under this in the TV show apparently don't here. Chloé's usual outfit is described as her favorite, but she apparently doesn't wear it often enough for Jack to recognize it as such when Marinette makes a replica of it for her, nor does Adrien recognize it when he sees it on Jack. Elsewhere, when the subject of Adrien's modelling career comes up, he remarks that he'd wear the same outfit every day if he could.
* LivingLieDetector: Downplayed, but [[spoiler:when Rabbit shows Chameleon a photo of Evelyn Jenson, she figures out from a sharp intake of breath and his heartrate that he knows her.]]
* {{Magitek}}: The American Miraculouses are the result of a lab experiment about thirteen years earlier, involving cloned kwamis with different animal forms to the canon ones, bonded with items of significant sentimental value.
* TheMaidenNameDebate: Jack's grandmother took her husband's name (Dembroski) because it was expected at the time, but she was always Anita Blaylock "on anything of importance."
* TheManBehindTheMan: The as-yet-unnamed founder of Omega Labs, responsible for Project Lionheart, which created the cloned kwamis, who later stole the Swan Miraculous, gave it to an underling and sent him after Rabbit and Perro Negro.
* MasqueradingAsTheUnseen:
** During the Phoenix attack, Chloé attempts to pass herself off as Rabbit by putting her hair in a fishbone braid in order to get close enough to the possessed medal. Phoenix points out that even if she's telling the truth her miraculous is worthless to Hawk Moth.
** In chapter 13, [[spoiler:Chameleon poses as the Mantis holder, a black girl with a southern accent, to get close to Rabbit. As it happens, the actual Praying Mantis, introduced in Chapter 14, is a Korean adult male with no such accent. The remaining Recree users do not resemble this girl either, so where her likeness came from is unknown.]]
* MementoMacGuffin: The Omega Labs [[TransformationTrinket Miraculouses]] are all created from items of sentimental value: a pair of cuff links that belonged to Anita Blaylock's husband, a watch that her daughter gave her when Jack was born, and a pair of dog tags that are hinted to [[spoiler:have belonged to Diego's father, who was killed in Afghanistan]]. The scientists on the project originally tried to get the kwamis to bond with things like standard-issue army wristbands with no history to them. When this failed, Dr. Blaylock smuggled in the aforementioned cuff links and successfully created the Swan Miraculous.
* MilitaryBrat: Diego, whose father was killed in Afghanistan. As such, he has a lot of respect for the military and develops a habit of saluting as Perro Negro.
* MistakenForCheating: [[spoiler:Jack jumps to conclusions after seeing a Snapchat from Diego with another girl. It turns out to be [[RelativeError his new foster sister]] Gabriella, who already has a girlfriend.]]
* MissingMom: Diego's, not to mention Adrien's as in canon.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: [[spoiler:Chameleon turns against Omega when he tries to blow up Cybite, uncaring that he will also be killed.]]
* {{Monologuing}}: Used and namechecked when [[spoiler:the heroes surround Chameleon but spend so much time explaining how they manipulated him that they're in no position to actually apprehend him before their timers run out]].
* MotorMouth: Marinette gets like this when she's apologising to Jack for the outfit she gave her. Jack notes that it's the most she's ever said to her, and it's entirely in English.
* MyGreatestFailure:
** Jack treats her decision to reveal herself to Perro Negro as such, being the apparent cause of her string of bad luck since (eg, her failure to recover the Swan Miraculous and her disastrous Paris debut).
** In chapter 16, [[spoiler:Praying Mantis opens up to Rabbit about his failure to save a stranded mountain climber in a storm, who potentially could have survived if he hadn't gotten involved.]]
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: Downplayed. The worst of Jack's attempts at French is when she tries to say "Merci Beaucoup" and it comes out as "Beau cul" ("Nice butt.")
* NobodyHereButUsStatues: To draw out Pygmalion, Ladybug and Chat Noir pose as a statue of themselves, supposedly made by Theo Barbot, using a can of gray spray paint.
* NoSell: Rabbit's attempt to purify an akuma butterfly with her Chakaram. Initially, it's taken as proof that Jack's powers took on those of Perro Negro's, but chapter 15 introduces the possibility that Jack could only cure those Akumas from her enemy, Trumpeter Swan.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: During the Road Rage attack, Rabbit manages to jump inside his monster truck and kick him out, but then comes close to running over Chat Noir, who narrowly gets saved by Ladybug. This is misconstrued as a deliberate attack on the heroes by several of Alya's followers. In addition, Alya films Rabbit interacting with Imagineur and trying to calm him down without attacking him, a tactic that she's used with child akumas before. Alya interprets it as colluding with him, and Hawk Moth by extension.
* ObliviousGuiltSlinging: During the Road Rage attack, Rabbit leaves the other heroes to it after her (otherwise successful) plan to kick the driver out of his truck almost gets Chat Noir run over, believing she'll be nothing but a burden to them. She de-transforms and goes back to Nino, who tells Jack about his rescue by Rabbit and praises her alter ego for doing the right thing despite how scared and angry with her everyone else must be. His words make Jack feel even more guilty, enough that as soon as she gets the chance, she changes back to Rabbit and returns to the fight.
* OhCrap:
** Jack does it repeatedly in the first chapter, first when she sees an akuma coming for her, then when her attempt to purify it with her chakram fails, and again when she tries to cast Lucky Strike only to realize she's picked up Dogstruction instead.
** In chapter 13, [[spoiler:Rabbit is initially thrilled to meet the Mantis miraculous holder but realizes quite quickly that there's no way she could have flown to Paris so soon after she activated the Beacon.]]
* OlderThanTheyThink: {{Invoked}} when Nino meets Rabbit and asks if she's "the American Ladybug". Rabbit feigns offense - "Hey! Ever think that maybe Ladybug is the French version of me?" - before grinning and admitting that he's probably right.
* OneDegreeOfSeparation: [[spoiler:Howard Jenson, the man responsible for stealing the Beacon, turns out to be married to Evelynn, the woman who took care of Diego's grandmother. In turn, Evie is revealed to be the granddaughter of the man Rabbit had previously met under the name Oliver Bergeron, who claimed to be the Guardian.]]
* OutOfCharacterAlert: Alya is first alerted to the Nanny Mite attack by the uncharacteristically good behavior of Ella and Etta over the last few days. Jack is sceptical that an akuma is involved until she sees Manon Chamack acting the same way.
* OperationBlank: Diego's habit of giving their plans military operation names: "Operation Hide-and-Seek" refers to the search for the Guardian, "Operation Security" refers to the search for [[spoiler:the Beacon]], "Operation Oz" comes up in the battle against Tattoo, and "Operation Chronicle", "Operation Blackjack" and "Operation Double Jeopardy" are mentioned but not elaborated on.
* PartingWordsRegret: Jack's mother Jennifer, in the flashback to her learning of Anita's death, though we don't learn what the words were because she gets interrupted by her husband.
-->"I should have talked to her. The last words I said to her shouldn’t have been—"\
"It’s in the past now."
* PeoplePuppets: [[spoiler:Commandant's power enables her to control other people's bodies, but not their minds, which in Rabbit's case allows her to warn Ladybug and Chat Noir of how to dodge her attacks. It stops working when she detransforms and takes the watch off to protect Mimmi, but starts working again as soon as she retransforms.]]
* PetTheDog: Gabriel gets a moment of this when he thanks Jack for saving Adrien from La Femme Defamation and allows her to come over to the mansion for French tutoring - though he stops short of apologizing for throwing her out of the mansion earlier. [[spoiler:It's also undercut by the fact that he put Adrien in danger to begin with, though the author didn't know that for sure at the time.]]
* PowerCopying: Jack has acquired Perro Negro's Dogstruction power and [[DiscardAndDraw apparently lost Lucky Strike.]] It's eventually revealed that [[spoiler:this is because the last time she used Lucky Strike she didn't cast Miraculous Rabbit to repair the damage]].
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: During the Gravity Screw attack:
-->'''Gravity Screw''': [[PunctuatedForEmphasis What… is… going… on…]]!?\
'''Nymph''': ''[in French]'' What’s going on is that you might control space, but your time is up!\
'''Firefly''': What did you say? Was it an awesome one-liner? I bet it was an awesome one-liner.\
''Nymph looked like she wanted to kill someone.''
* PretenderDiss: Ladybug gives Rabbit a relatively benign one, when she suggests that the reason her powers have gone haywire is that "you don't possess a true Miraculous." The difference being that Ladybug and Chat Noir's Miraculouses and kwamis are thousands of years old, while Rabbit's were created in a lab thirteen years ago from kwami DNA.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The Recree heroes.
-->''The sigh from [[spoiler:Evie]] really said it all. So this was the team, then. An orphaned liar with a narcoleptic dog, an anti-social lone wolf with a knight-errant mantis, a sensitive wallflower with a motherly firefly, and a spoiled model with a thrill-seeking dragonfly. The only thing that seemed to connect them all was their lack of friends.\
They were pretty much doomed.''
* RapidFireNo:
** Rabbit's reaction when she sees that the Pygmalion akuma has multiplied into a swarm, which are descending on Paris and transforming random citizens.
** Jack's reaction when [[spoiler:she finds out that Oliver Bergeron, who she thought was the Guardian, is actually Omega.]]
* RealityBreakingParadox: [[spoiler:Omega’s ultimate plan is to use the seven Recreé Miraculous to travel back to 1991 and SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong by saving his son and daughter-in-law. Too bad this causes time to unravel.]]
* RealityWarper: Phoenix's power, creating a world where he is the hero and no one remembers Ladybug, Chat Noir or Rabbit, causing them to be mistaken for akumas. The only people immune to it are the heroes themselves, Chloé, and ''possibly'' some of their other fans - the latter is Jack's speculation based on Chloé, Adrien and Marinette's immunity and a vague e-mail she received from Colleen about something being "wrong" that morning.
* RealPersonFic:
** In chapter 16, Jack and a few classmates attend a soccer match between Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, during which Edinson Cavani is akumatised into Striker, after getting a Yellow Card for excessive celebration and a Red Card for arguing with the referee about it.
** In Chapter 17, in a flashback, Rabbit and Perro Negro fight an akuma at a convention who has turned several celebrities into action figures, including Creator/StanLee, Creator/LeVarBurton and Creator/LouFerrigno.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:In order to draw out the Pygmalion akuma, Rabbit and "Perro Negro" try to get Pierre angry. Specifically, "Perro" brings up the idea of designing a statue of the two of them in Grand Park, before asking Pierre to introduce them to Theo Barbot, his rival who got him akumatized in the first place. "Perro" then takes the abuse way too far, eventually driving Pierre out of the studio in tears and foiling their plan to get the akuma before it corrupts him again. Rabbit uses this to figure out "Perro" was an imposter.]]
* TheReveal: Chapter 17 reveals what's wrong with Rabbit's powers. [[spoiler:Rabbit never used Miraculous Rabbit in her final fight with Trumpeter Swan in order to keep him sealed as an action figure, so she needs to do so to disperse the luck so she can gather it again to use Lucky Strike.]]
* RightForTheWrongReasons: [[spoiler:After Praying Mantis tried and failed to save a mountain climber, his widow blamed him supposedly doing nothing to save him. Mantis never bothered to correct her.]]
* RuleOfThree: During the scenes where Rabbit explains to Ladybug and Chat Noir the background of the Omega Labs Miraculouses, she responds to three of their questions with, "Yes and no."
* RuleOfSeven: As with the main seven canon Miraculouses, Omega Labs managed to create seven Kwamis, all of which have since bonded with Miraculous: Mimmi the Rabbit (equivalent to Ladybug, both representing good luck), Wrekk the Dog (Black Cat), Ceeree the Swan (Butterfly), Hokss the Chameleon (Fox), Roadd the Mantis (Turtle), Zaasa the Dragonfly (Peacock) and Lummen the Firefly (Bee).
* SealedEvilInACan: It's mentioned early on that Trumpeter Swan was "sealed away" when he was defeated, which kept them from recovering the Swan Miraculous. In Chapter 17, it's explained that [[spoiler:he was turned into an action figure by his last akuma Comikaze and will stay that way as long as he's in "mint condition", or gets released by Miraculous Rabbit.]]
* SealedEvilInADuel: [[spoiler: The climax has Jack/Alpha distracting Omega from his time altering scheme, with both using their powers to ensure they can live long enough to defeat the other, essentially trapping both of them for all eternity.]]
* SeinfeldianConversation: Adrien and Jack in Chapter 16:
-->'''Adrien''': …to fight a hundred of anything? I’m telling you, one horse-sized duck is the way to go.”\
'''Jack''': Two problems with that. (''ticking them off with her fingers'') One, have you ever met a horse? They are HUGE! Two, have you ever met a duck? They will bite you. So, no, I would much rather fight one hundred duck-sized horses. I could kick them. Or, you know, befriend them with carrots because miniature anything is adorable.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Max, no matter what language he's speaking.
-->'''Max''': (''asking Jack about the Femme Defamation attack'') However did you ascertain you would be unaffected by her onslaught? (''{{beat}}'') I hope I said that correctly in English.\
'''Kim''': (''in French'') You and your big words!\
'''Max''': Yes, well… A different language is no excuse to speak like a simpleton.
* ShaggyDogStory: [[spoiler:Played with regarding the Beacon arc. After Rabbit recovers the Beacon, she convinces Jade and Dr. Lacasse to go against Mr Bergeron's order to destroy it, so that she can use it to find the other kwamis without alerting Hawk Moth. However, her attempt only proved that no kwami bonded to a Miraculous would be able to simply abandon it or their holder, suggesting that nothing much would have changed if Omega or Hawk Moth had activated it instead. On the other hand, this result does confirm to her that all of the remaining kwamis actually ''have'' holders, and the Mantis, Firefly and Dragonfly holders have since arrived in Paris. And then it's revealed that this is exactly what Mr. Bergeron/Omega wanted her to do.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: As of chapter 9, Jack for Marinette and Adrien. And by Chapter 13, for Ladybug and Chat Noir.
* ShortDistancePhoneCall: [[spoiler:Rabbit uses this to prove that the Perro visiting her in Paris is an imposter (specifically, the Chameleon Miraculous holder), since her attempt to call him with her chakram won't work. Afterwards, the heroes begin using this trope to preemptively confirm each other's identities. When their communicators are all stolen during the Nanny Mite attack, Chameleon makes his move - only to realise that's what they expected him to do.]]
* ShoutOut:
** During "Storytime With Ladybug" at the Fantômette Library, Ladybug is seen reading the opening lines of ''Literature/{{Madeline}}''.
** When Jack subdues an akuma by grabbing their cape, she quips that [[spoiler:Trumpeter Swan]] should have taken some design lessons from [[Franchise/TheIncredibles Edna Mode]].
* SleepingDummy: Jack uses one when she needs to sneak out at night, complete with her phone playing recorded sounds of herself sleeping. [[spoiler:It even fools Praying Mantis momentarily when she brings him home in Chapter 16.]]
* SoMuchForStealth: Lock Pick is almost invisible in the dark ([[InvisibilityWithDrawbacks except for]] Chat Noir's InnateNightVision) and impossible to hear moving around (even for Rabbit's super hearing) unless he steps on something like broken glass - which, ironically, was only broken because he broke a number of lightbulbs to make it dark enough for him to move around.
* SpotTheThread: In chapter 10, this is how [[spoiler:Rabbit realizes Perro Negro is a fake: he is uncharacteristically cruel, his cuff-phone does not respond to Rabbit's calls, and he doesn't refer to Chat Noir as "Cat Noir". She also points out that he hasn't called her anything other than "Mi conejito", since he doesn't know her real identity, though he did have a decent defense for that. After she attacks him with Dogstruction, he's revealed to be the Chameleon Miraculous holder.]]
* StrawMisogynist: In Chapter 17, Rabbit fights a comic themed akuma who accuses her of being a "fake geek girl". Rabbit chooses to rile him up by deliberately misunderstanding his references (eg, guessing that "[[Film/RevengeOfTheSith I have the high ground!]]" comes from ''Franchise/StarTrek''.)
* SuperSenses: Rabbit's ears give her super hearing.
* SuperSoldier: The goal behind Project Lionheart was to create super soldiers for the US Army. Chat Noir namechecks ComicBook/CaptainAmerica when Rabbit mentions this. However, the founder of Omega Labs was exploiting the defense contract and was always planning to keep the kwamis for his own purposes.
* SureLetsGoWithThat: Played seriously when [[spoiler:Nymph draws the wrong conclusion about the containment field around the city affecting the kwamis and assumes Omega must have had something to do with it. Rabbit, wanting to avoid another situation like what happened with Praying Mantis, goes along with it, though she does tell the whole truth to Firefly later.]]
* SurvivalMantra: A few that Mimmi repeats to Jack: "You’re a hero with or without the mask", "Fall down seven times, stand up eight", and especially "Be positive", which at one point gets the response, "Okay. I'm positive she [Alya] hates me."
* TeethClenchedTeamwork:
** Between Ladybug and Rabbit, mostly one-sided, due to Ladybug not trusting Rabbit to use her powers properly (with good reason). They seem to be on good terms by the end of Chapter 9 though.
** Namechecked in Chapter 16 [[spoiler:when Praying Mantis is forced to work with the other heroes so Rabbit will turn the Beacon off, but they manage to patch things up by the end]].
* TemptingFate: Jack and Diego ignored their kwamis' warnings about what might happen if they unmasked: "I think it’s [[YouAreWorthHell worth the risk]], ''conejito''.". As a result, Jack picks up her partner's bad luck, with the implied result of being forced to move to France, as well as her superpower being replaced with his. [[spoiler:It later turns out that that last one had nothing to do with it, though.]]
* ThatCameOutWrong: A couple of fairly clean examples.
** When Jack is introduced to Marinette, after previously being told that her parents ran the bakery nearby, she exclaims, "Oh! I was just at your house!" Marinette wrinkles her brow. Jack continues, "Er… uh, that came out weird. I mean, I was just at your parent’s bakery and I brought a croissant and I ate it and it was delicious."
** When Mimmi reassures Jack that her grandmother loved her and wasn't just treating her as an experiment.
--->'''Mimmi''': She wanted to wait and see because she was hoping to find a Chosen One for me who wasn't her granddaughter. She only submitted your name to the Guardian as a last resort, when she was on her deathbed.\
'''Jack''': Last resort…?\
'''Mimmi''': That came out wrong. What I’m trying to tell you is that your grandmother was trying to protect you. The founder of Omega Labs will be after you now, and he doesn’t care if you’re a fourteen-year-old girl — he will stop at nothing until he has your Miraculous. And we cannot let that happen.
* ThrowTheDogABone: [[spoiler:After two failed attempts by the heroes to capture Chameleon, Chapter 13 ends with Alya witnessing him de-transforming without him knowing, and being able to describe him for Nathaniel to sketch. Diego passes the sketch onto Jack's uncle Greg, a cop, allowing them to identify him as Zachary Canterelli, a runaway from Newark, New Jersey.]]
* TimeSkip: A month between Chapters 6 and 7.
* TookALevelInKindness: Much like "[[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS02E02DespairBear Despair Bear]]", chapter 11 has Chloé at her most heroic, taking it upon herself to help Ladybug get the akumatized item, and apologizing to Phoenix for trying to have Bastille Day canceled. And, also like "Despair Bear", it doesn't last to the end of the chapter, but does show at least ''some'' progress.
* TransformationSequence: The first time Rabbit transforms, it's described in enough detail that we can visualize it happening on the show:
-->'''Jack''': Mimmi! Hop to it!\
Her Kwami stretched and got sucked into her old-fashion wristwatch, turning the leather strap white and changing the clock face so it measured five minutes instead of twelve hours, the single hand stuck in an upright position. The transformation continued from there, crawling down one arm, across her chest, and to the other. A large flat throwing ring, a chakram, appeared in her hand, which she moved across her face in a circular motion, her white domino mask appearing. Tossing her weapon into the air, she yanked two rabbit ears into existence out of the back of her head and magically smoothed her caramel-colored hair into a perfect side fishbone braid. Jack then caught her chakram and swung it down as she kneeled, the transformation reaching her toes. Now she was entirely dressed in a white skintight suit weaved out of hexagons. She had opera gloves with the tiniest of claws, more for aesthetic purposes than to actually scratch anyone, and heavy knee-high combat boots that packed a wallop whenever she kicked someone. As if to demonstrate, she stood back up and performed a few low air kicks and a side kick. She ended by swinging one leg in a perfect circle, her shin level with her eyes at one point, before slamming it down just as her little fluffy tail appeared. To be honest, Jack could do without the tail, but it came with the bulletproof costume.
* TranslationPunctuation: French dialogue that Jack can understand often appears first in italicised French followed by an English translation in parentheses. It's used less in later chapters as she becomes more fluent, instead just using the italics to signify French.
* TwoTimerDate: [[spoiler:Happens to each of the heroes when they're supposed to be at a Positivitiy Club meeting in both identities. Marinette ducks out when they run out of pies and she claims she's going to bake some more. Adrien calls in sick, which forces Jack to stay and translate for Cadance in his place, making it awkward when Ladybug and Chat Noir show up under the impression that Rabbit is coming.]]
* UngratefulBastard: A few of the people Rabbit has saved so far qualify, but in their defense, she did cause a lot of injuries on her first day in Paris, including Alix's father. In chapter 10, she rescues Alix from one of Pygmalion's statues, cutting through the straps of her backpack with her chakram in the process. Alix's immediate reaction is to complain about the damage to her backpack, but then winces and thanks Rabbit, in English.
* UnspokenPlanGuarantee:
** Played with when Ladybug's plan for Cottontail is only stated after we've seen it fall apart. Played straight with her second plan.
** Played straight again in Chapter 13, which goes to great lengths not to reveal that [[spoiler:Chameleon is disguised as Ladybug, and that the other two not only know it but were ''counting'' on it, until the very end of the fight.]] All we get is Rabbit saying, "I have an idea… But it’s dangerous and stupid and we have to split up."
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:
** [[spoiler:Diego's attempt to trace his money back to the Guardian with help from a White Hat employee, ended up leading Howard Jenson, and by extension Omega, to the Beacon. In turn, Jack involving Diego in her and Sabrina's search for the Beacon's hiding place in Paris ended up alerting Commandant to them.]]
** In a more literal sense, Jack when she tries to activate her ability and instead gets the incredibly destructive "Dogstruction" ability, which totals a street and can't be fixed.
* VillainOfAnotherStory: Trumpeter Swan was Rabbit and Perro Negro's enemy in Los Angeles, essentially their equivalent of Hawk Moth with a lot of the same powers. It's been revealed that he was "sealed away", in what Jack seems to consider a PyrrhicVictory because she failed to recover the Swan Miraculous. Omega qualifies as well in the early chapters, [[spoiler:but has since begun to have more involvement in the events in Paris.]]
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Jack was once part of a group of friends that called themselves "The Squad", but it all fell apart when she became Rabbit. [[spoiler:Chapter 14 reveals that without Jack, tensions are starting to rise, although Jack and Cadence officially bury the hatchet.]]
* WhamEpisode:
** Chapter 12: [[spoiler:Rabbit finally makes contact with Oliver Bergeron and learns that he was responsible for the creation of the Beacon. Jack manages to track down the Beacon and identify the man responsible for the theft, Howard Jenson. When Mr. Bergeron asks Rabbit and her allies at [=DyTech=] to destroy the Beacon, she convinces them to disobey him and use it to track down the remaining kwamis.]]
** The ending of Chapter 16: [[spoiler:Jack is in the middle of a French comprehension test given by Gabriel when they're interrupted by two familiar visitors: Oliver Bergeron, who Gabriel knows by the name Julius Ende, and his granddaughter, ''Evie Jenson''. Once Jack and Evie are alone together, Evie reveals that she knows Jack is Rabbit and claims that she is the ''real'' Guardian.]]
** Chapter 17 continues by upending everything we thought we knew: [[spoiler:Evie really is the Guardian (and was previously Swan Princess), her grandfather is actually Omega, Howard Jenson isn't working for him, Mimmi is able to confirm this by eavesdropping on Omega's conversation with Gabriel, which also reveals to Jack that Gabriel is Hawk Moth.]]
** Chapter 18. [[spoiler:Jack is forced to release Trumpeter Swan in order to defeat a powerful akuma; Trumpeter Swan's first move is to successfully find out that Diego is Perro Negro and that he's currently in Paris.]]
** Chapter 19. [[spoiler:Jack finds out that Diego got his Miraculous several months before she thought he did and effectively left her to rot in the opening stages of the conflict with Trumpeter Swan. This leads to her being akumatized by Hawk Moth.]]
* WhatTheHellHero:
** In chapter 4 Chat confronts Rabbit over her absence during the Femme Defamation attack, pointing out that Ladybug could have used her help. Rabbit replies that she ''was'' there, until Ladybug told her to stay back because of her powers. Chat's frustration then turns to Ladybug, since she didn't tell him that and put herself in unnecessary danger by trying to fight alone, though we don't see him call her on out on it.
** Rabbit gets a harsh but fair one from Ladybug after the Sequana attack, thanks to her using Dogstruction ''again'' despite knowing that she can't control it and that Ladybug won't be able to fix the damage. Complete with WhatWereYouThinking
** In chapter 10, both Ladybug and Chat Noir call out the others for their attempt to draw out the Pygmalion akuma by pissing off Pierre, but Ladybug later admits that the plan was sound even if the execution was poor.
** In Chapter 14, [[spoiler:Praying Mantis calls out Rabbit for summoning him and his kwami to Paris with the Beacon, without even considering whether he might have his own life to deal with.]]
** In Chapter 16, [[spoiler:Mantis again calls out Rabbit for not thinking enough about the consequences after TheInfiltration plan goes awry.]]
** In Chapter 19, [[spoiler:Rabbit's lie to Nymph is exposed. Nymph is furious - "Some hero you are! You’re on your own, Rabbit." - while Ladybug is disappointed that she didn't trust the rest of them with this detail, though more understanding that Rabbit had imagined she would be earlier.]]
** Soon after this, [[spoiler:Rabbit calls out Perro Negro for lying about how long he had his Miraculous, bringing up how much her life sucked for those first few months.]]
* WholeEpisodeFlashback:
** Chapter 5 cuts back and forth between Rabbit telling Ladybug and Chat Noir what she can about Dr. Anita Blaylock and her creation of the Kwamis, and a series of flashbacks to Jack's memories of her grandmother (Anita) and receiving the Miraculous.
** Chapter 8 has an extended flashback to Rabbit and Perro Negro's relationship, including the night they revealed their identities. It's framed by a couple of scenes of Rabbit practicing Dogstruction with coaching from Perro and Chat.
** Chapter 17 has an extended flashback to [[spoiler:Jack's last month in Los Angeles, including the capture of Trumpeter Swan. It's framed by a few scenes in the present where Jack has to deal with new revelations about Omega, the Guardian and Hawk Moth]].
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: Femme Defamation's power. The insults themselves are accompanied by giant rocks which do the actual injuring, but they'll only work on people who can actually understand the words, which gives Jack an advantage - up until she yells to Adrien to get away and gives away that she's an English speaker.
-->'''Femme Defamation''': You have such funny sayings in your language. One of my favorites is — how does it go again? — Ah, yes. ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.’ How quaint. Well, let me tell you, girl. I can make words hurt a lot, you mangy, plebeian, insignificant, hideous chipmunk-cheeked freak! (''as she talks, rocks appear around her, which are then propelled at Jack, who gets knocked out'')
* YearInsideHourOutside: For every hour that passes inside the pocket dimensions that exist within the Miraculous, one minute passes in the real world.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: In Chapter 21, [[spoiler: from Evie to Diego after Rabbit finds out that he lied to him and gets akumatised because of it.]]
--> [[spoiler: The person you were after your ''abuela'' died? That wasn’t you. That was just a reaction to pain and suffering. The real you is the boy who visited his grandma every Sunday, no matter what, even after she stopped recognizing him, even though living in foster care made things difficult. The boy who brought smiles to the faces of all the other residents because he treated them as if they were his own family. The boy who never let anyone know how much he was hurting because he didn’t want anyone to worry. You have good intentions, Diego. I don’t even need the Swan Miraculous to tell me that because I’ve seen it for myself. You ''care'' about people. So when I found out that you had the Dog Miraculous, I let you keep it. I had faith that it would help you return to yourself, and that you would someday become a Chosen One on your own. You’re still not there yet, but I’m confident you will be, someday. You just need a little more time.”]]
