A Fox in Paradise is a ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' Quest written by Erien on Spacebattles, focusing mostly on Slice of Life and Incident Resolution. It follows Ayumu, a five-tailed fox who has decided to move to Gensokyo rather than fade from existence. Shortly after he meets Sanae, who is looking for a worker to help repair Moriya Shrine in exchange for room and board. An agreement is struck, and Ayumu takes up residence in Moriya Shrine.

All is not well, however. The first night, [[DreamWalker Ayumu finds himself]] in the dream of a nine-tailed fox resembling Ran Yakumo, and is killed on the spot. [[CatapultNightmare Fortunately he wakes up]]. The Double Dealing Character incident is underway and causes an assault on the tengu village, who have sworn loyalty to the Moriya. Ayumu wanders into another dream, this time of Yukari Yakumo, and is charged with investigating the incident. [[IronButtMonkey And is killed on the spot.]]

The newly expanded Moriya Shrine must solve the incident, regain their power, and try to keep their newest member’s blood inside his body.

A Fox in Paradise has completed one thread, which contains the Double Dealing Character (DDC) incident and an original incident Continuation of Past Tragedies ([=CoPT=]) , and can be found [[https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/a-fox-in-paradise-touhou.588297/ here]].

The second thread continues where the first ended, and can be found

----
!!A Fox In Paradise contains examples of:
* ActionDuo: Sanae as the [[ActionHero Action Heroine]], Ayumu as the ActionSurvivor.
* ActionMom: Kanako and Suwako.
* AdaptationExpansion: The 'What Could Have Been' omakes.
* AllIsWellThatEndsWell: Normally the general approach to post-incidents in Gensokyo. Averted on notable occasions.
** The underground has not forgiven or forgetten that the Moriya's actions nearly got everyone killed.
** [[spoiler: Post DDC, Reimu rules that Seija be banished from Gensokyo, an effective death sentence.]]
** [[spoiler: The people of Gensokyo do not condone or allow attacks on the Human Village, even if everything turned out fine in the end.]] This makes the perpetrators virtually everyone's enemy.
* AlternateLandmarkHistory: Lake Suwa? Made by Suwako.
* AmplifierArtifact: Essentially what Sukuna's mallet is. It empowers her and her allies, but it can also drive people berserk by overloading them with power.
** [[spoiler:When Yukari first speaks to Ayumu, she produces a copy of it to show him. Her dream copy is so accurate that it begins to drive her berserk, and embeds itself in Ayumu. This continues to affects other people he meets in dreams until Suwako removes it.]]
* AnimalMotifs: Kanako, Suwako, and Ayumu all have shades of this.
* AscendedMeme: Ayumu's nickname of Doomfox.
* AssholeVictim: Futaba. Conspiring to topple the established order in Gensokyo means no one cares if a fox hits you with enough [[CharmPerson Charm]] to turn you into a drooling mess, interrogates you, and then throws you to Reimu's mercy.
* AssimilationBackfire: [[spoiler: Seija tried to drive Kanako berserk. Except what she got was Ayumu disguised as Kanako. Bonus points because Seija wanted to turn the strength of the strong to the service of the weak, and Ayumu was too weak for the spell to take hold.]]
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Tengu and Oni culture from what we have seen.
** Also how Kanako took over Suwako's shrine.
* AsYouKnow: A fair bit of recapping is done when the Moriya sit down to catch up on what's happened recently.
* AwakeningTheSleepingGiant: Anyone who incites Yukari to action. [[DeepSleep Especially if you manage to interrupt her hibernation]].
* BadassArmy: Ayumu's preferred strategy for incident resolution. Also, the tengu in general.
** Double Dealing Characer: [[spoiler: Kanako, Suwako, Sanae, the tengu, Remilia, Sakuya, Meiling, and Alice.]]
** [[spoiler: Continuation of Past Tragedies]]: [[spoiler: Kanako, Suwako, Sanae, the tengu, Remilia, Sakuya, and Youmu.]]
* BadassBoast: Kanako's bread and butter.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Ayumu. Also Reisen.
* BattleInTheRain: The [[spoiler:Flandre Calming]] and [[spoiler:Fox Village fight]]. In both cases, the rain was of magical design meant to provide an advantage.
* BattleTrophy: Remilia claims them during DDC and [=CoTP=]. The first time she takes an entire castle door, the second time she claims enchanted weaponry.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: Almost everyone in Gensokyo can claim this, especially Kanako and Suwako.
** Ayumu caused the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Incident Kobe Incident]].
* TheBerserker: DDC deals with a lot of beings coming down with a case of this.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Adorkable [[BlowYouAway wind]] [[WhiteMage maiden]] Sanae may be, she is still the daughter of War and Curse goddesses.
* {{Bizarrchitecture}}: The Inverted Castle.
** Yuuka has a lake of blood in her dream world.
* BloodKnight: ''Kanako.'' Also Suwako. The two goddesses regularly fight, but Kanako is much more obvious about it.
* BloodOath: What a Shinshi contract entails.
* BoyMeetsGirl: Essentially how the plot starts. Ayumu meets several girls while moving into Gensokyo, but Sanae is the one he goes home with.
* BrainwashResidue: [[spoiler:When Danjuro dies and his thralls are freed, they are all clearly traumatized by the experience. The seven-tailed fox that had nearly killed Kanako has just enough initiative to surrender, but is otherwise unable to act.]]
* [[BreakoutCharacter Breakout Characters]]: The Moriya themselves. Yes, really. The author himself wasn't a major fan, did not expect readers to go with Sanae, but as the story went on the Moriya endeared themselves to writer and reader alike. Now they're a central part of the plot.
* ButtMonkey: Ayumu’s nickname is Doomfox, because despite the best efforts of everyone he keeps almost dying.
* CallingYourAttacks: All spellcards require this.
* CannibalismSuperpower: Kitsune can tails faster by eating the tails of other foxes.
** [[spoiler:This was the goal of the Fusakazu clan, on a large scale. Ran was one of their victims, and was force-fed tails until her mind broke and she was left a figurehead for the Fusakazu's cult. Until Yukari happened.]]
* CannotCrossRunningWater: Remilia is actively in pain when rain hits her. Patchouli summoned up a rainstorm to weaken a [[spoiler:rampaging Flandre]].
* TheCavalry: Several instances, JustInTime.
** [[spoiler:Marisa saves Ayumu from a berserk Kagerou.]]
** [[spoiler:Yukari during the second fight with Seija.]]
* CharmPerson: A racial ability of the kitsune.
** [[spoiler:The specialty of the Fusakazu clan, used to enthrall others so thoroughly they're like an empty vessel surving the will of the caster.]]
* ChekhovsGag: "I can never be a bride..."
* ChekhovsGun: Ayumu's near empty power during DDC Finale.
* CommLinks: Ayumu and Sanae use cell phones to keep in touch
** On one occasion, Kanako commandeers Sanae's to inform him of his [[TrainingFromHell upcoming training session]].
--> You’ve never looked at a cellphone like the harbinger of your own death before. Neat.
* ConspiracyRedemption: Ayumu is recruited by the Moriya without being informed of their actions in the underground. He's surprised by this, but still thinks they're good people and is willing to stay with them.
* CoolSword: Kanako has them. Youmu has one too.
** [[spoiler:Ayumu steals one of Kanako's swords from a museum in Tokyo to return to Kanako.]]
* CreatorThumbprint: Erien likes to put fan-created Touhou music and art in the chapters.
* CunningLikeAFox: Ayumu, and the rest of the kitsune.
* CurbstompBattle: Ayumu's sparring matches with Kanako and Suwako.
** Whenever Yukari deigns to fight.
--> '''Yukari:''' That was therapeutic.
* DamselInDistress: Averted. It is revealed Sukuna went willingly with Seija. She also fights Kanako, Suwako, Sanae, and Ayumu at the same time.
** Though Sukuna ends up needing Ayumu to save her from her own allies in the climax.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Ayumu himself.
** Seija in her Side Story chapter.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Unlike canon, people are killed. On-screen no less.
* DayInTheLimelight: The side stories.
* DeadlyHug: Ayumu is carrying a little girl, who proceeds to bite a chunk from his side.
* DeathByAThousandCuts: Second encounter with Seija, she pulls out a spell that shoots needles.
** [[spoiler: Also how Ayumu's Last Word works, defeating a foe by a barrage of reviving undead foxes.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Upon being defeated, Sukuna is much friendlier.
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: Kanako. Arguably Sanae.
* DelightingInRiddles: Yuuka Kazami, surprising.
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: Everyone else's reaction to Ayumu having a normal visit with Yuuka.
* DirtyCoward: Seija. [[spoiler:Also Danjuro.]]
* DiscardAndDraw: Ayumu, and other supernatural beings, move to Gensoukyo in order to regain their power.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler: Danjuro organized the attack on the Human Village, but it turns out he was working with an unknown backer.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Ayumu has used this in his past, as both genders.
* DoomedHometown: [[spoiler: Ayumu's.]]
* TheDreaded: Yuuka is feared by even the Moriya. She's done nothing on screen, but she is a figure of fear in Gensokyo. [[FearlessFool Ayumu thinks she's perfectly pleasant]].
* DrowningMySorrows: Ayumu finds Yuugi doing this the day after their fight. Since he's there to repay his debt to her with a bottle of good booze, she immediately cheers up.
** Ayumu tries this in the Yakumo omake.
* DynamicEntry: Suwako during Kanako's introduction.
* DysfunctionJunction: Moriya Shrine. All of its members are concealing some kind of damage
** Sanae [[spoiler:has intense abandonment issues, because her mothers couldn't manifest themselves or stay conscious most of the time. Her faith and love is what kept them alive, and she lived most of her life in the expectation that they would someday disappear.]]
** Kanako [[spoiler:has lived AGodIsMe so long that despite ADeityOfHumanOrigin she's out of practice at being human herself. She relies on her goddess persona to interact with others, and has difficulty admitting her own faults.]]
** Suwako [[spoiler:is a spirit, not a woman. She was born as a fully formed goddess and while she is personable and very good at appearing human, she has a very alien mind and perspective.]]
** Ayumu [[spoiler:lost his entire family, ran away with his injured sister, only for her to die in his arms. Despite liking people he spent the next few centuries on the run, never revealing his past or who he was, or forming significant long term attachments, with the exception of Akyuu (then known as Amu). By the time the story starts, he's desperate for connections.]]
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The author was still working out the details and where he wanted the story to go in the beginning.
* EasyRoadToHell: Sure it's the Old Hell, but you can still walk or fly right into it.
* EldritchAbomination: Yukari, if a very personable one.
* EldritchLocation: Yukari's gap dimension in general, first scene when the train to Gensokyo passes through.
* EnemyMine: Part of the reason Remillia joined forces with Moriya Shrine in DDC. And again in [=CoPT=].
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Takeshi, Ayumu's tanuki friend. He gets one sidestory chapter written over a lunch break, in a story with hundreds of chapters, and he still ends up fondly remembered.
* EveryManHasHisPrice: Or every Reimu, as the case may be. Ayumu uses a blatant bribe via donation to get on her good side. It works.
* EnvironmentalSymbolism: When Ayumu first arrives, the Moriya Shrine is covered in carvings of frogs and snakes. It's also damaged and filled with unopened cardboard boxes.
* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler:Danjuro to Ayumu.]]
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Kanako and Suwako, now and forever.
** When they're competing over Sanae, [[TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry The Glorious War of Motherly Rivalry]] is more accurate.
* FamilyBusiness: It's religion for the family at Moriya.
* FamilyUnfriendlyViolence: This is what got Seija a target on her back, from near everyone.
* FlashbackNightmare: [[spoiler:Ayumu's attempts to create a spellcard results in [Fox Sign] - Living Cremation, whose theme is the cremation of his younger sister's body after she died in his arms. Needless to say his dream afterward is anything but pleasant.]]
* FloweryElizabethanEnglish: Yuuka, [[GreenThumb appropriately]].
* ForegoneConclusion: Readers knew early that Ayumu [[spoiler:lost much of his family]]. When we get flashbacks, we finally learn how.
* FromBadToWorse: When the Human village is attacked. [[spoiler:Ayumu is ambushed while rescuing people. The Human Village is burned and heavily damaged in the middle of winter. The Moriya Shrine is attacked, leaving Kanako in a coma and the shrine buried underground. Suwako unearths the shrine and joins Kanako in slumber soon after. Then Sanae and Ayumu are ambushed on their way to rest at the Tengu village. Then Yukari gaps them to the village by dumping them in the fountain, in the middle of winter.]]
** Ayumu getting shot down by a Master Spark wasn't a picnic either. Without a flight card or back-up, and soon fighting for his life against a werewolf.
* GateGuardian: Meiling is one. So when she joins the assault on the Inverted Castle, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness you know it's serious]].
** Also, her role isn't just to keep intruders out. [[spoiler: She is the final line of defense to keep Flandre Scarlet ''in''.]]
* GeniusLoci: The Moriya Shrine. It ''is'' Suwako.
* GodsNeedPrayerBadly: A key facet of the entire setting and especially relevant to the Moriya. Faith sustains deities and fuels their powers. Without it, they die.
** Before moving to Gensokyo, Kanako and Suwako were subsisting mostly on Sanae’s faith and love. Afterwards, they aggressively expanded their operations to get as much faith as possible. It worked very well for them, until the underground incident blew up in their faces.
** Notably, the Buddhist and Taoist factions use faith to fuel their powers, but don’t need faith to live.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Almost literally. Kanako and Suwako will compete in almost anything, and Mario Kart is a regular contest between them.
* GroinAttack: Sanae did this to Ayumu once while sparring. [[NoSell It didn't work.]]
** Ayumu's first dream with Yukari is when the Quest got its first overarching plotline.
* HappyFlashback: Ayumu has a quite a few of these. [[DreamWalker Sometimes they're not even his memories]].
* HeroAntagonist: Sukuna was trying to free her people, and others, from oppression in DDC. She was lied to about them being oppressed, but it's the thought that counts.
* HiddenElfVillage: The Fox Village, the Kappa, Eientei, Old Hell, and the Inchlings.
* HistoricalBadassUpgrade: Tends to be the default on Touhou, but special mention goes to the dream flashbacks in Kanako and Suwako's past.
* HumanOutsideAlienInside: Suwako. She was born a goddess and doesn't perceive the world the same way others do. She's very personable and until Ayumu arrived served as the Moriya's [[TheFace Face]] but when she gets surprised she tends to revert to a blank expression while she figures out the right response.
--> '''Suwako:''' Ah’m a goddess, I was never human like ‘Nako. At the end of the day ah’m not a real person, so my goddess robes are a part of me as much as my weapon and soul is.
* HumongousMecha: Sanae is a fan of them. Alice's Goliath Doll is one.
* IdiotBall: In Ayumu's hands when he decide that the right idea after being shot down into an unfamiliar forest at night, was to walk toward the thing that shot him. It ends in blood.
* IndyPloy: Ayumu. [[spoiler: With Seija getting ready to finish Ayumu and Sanae off, the only card left to play seems to be his Last Word. Instead, he sics Yukari on Seija.]]
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Ayumu and Sanae. Their developing bond is a major part of the story.
** [[spoiler: Made official during the Tokyo trip.]]
* ImpossiblyCompactFolding: Wakasagihime's wheelchair.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Several. Kanako has her Onbashira, Suwako has the Iron Rings of Moriya, and Alice has dolls.
* InstantSedation: [[OmnidisciplinaryScientist Eirin]] designs syrettes that instantly KO the injectee and negate the berserk effect of the mallet. It's OneDoseFitsAll, as long as you're not human.
* InternalReveal: Throughout the story, Ayumu learns of or reveals things he does not share with others. Including the Moriya, but it usually gets passed along to them. Eventually.
* InvisibleToAdults: Ayumu mentions that when he was living in Tokyo, sometime after 2000 only children could see him.
* JapaneseSpirit: Kanako, former Ruler of Yamato, embodies this. She has is never gives up or admits defeat (Seishin), she is absolutely implacable in her convictions (Chie), and went from a normal human to an existence surpassing Suwako, on top of an overabundance of Seishin and Chie (Koyū).
* JustAFleshWound: Averted with Remilia, but she reassures Flandre it was just an accident anyway.
* KilledMidSentence: [[spoiler: Danjuro.]]
* KillItWithFire: Ayumu and Mokou.
* TheKindnessOfStrangers: The Tanuki that told Raiko, Benben and Yatsuhashi about Gensokyo.
* KnightTemplar: [[spoiler:Danjuro and the Fusakazu clan plan to enthrall and enslave the fox clans in order to unite the foxes and ensure their survival.]]
* [[KnightTemplarBigBrother Knight Templar Big Sister]]: Remilia.
* KnuckleCracking: Yuugi cracks her neck when Ayumu accepted her challenge.
* LetsSplitUpGang: Done a few times. One when [[spoiler:the Human Village was attacked]]. One when the fight with [[spoiler:Danjuro]] started.
* LoopholeAbuse: Mima is not able to leave the Hakurei Shrine. [[spoiler: She solves this by breaking off a piece of the shrine and taking it with her.]]
* LowerDeckEpisode: Sidestories 1.4, 1.7, 2.4, and 2.8.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Ayumu has a tendency to not notice or care about grievous injuries to himself.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: [[spoiler:Seija]] is recruited by some after DDC
* MasterOfIllusion: Ayumu, a rare case of a protagonist specializing in it.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: [[spoiler: The Moriya offer Ayumu a Shinshi contract, which makes him a divine servant empowered by faith. His gets a full tail of power and regains the rest of his power at an accelerated rate.]]
* {{Miko}}: Sanae and Reimu are both mikos, although [[AGodIAmNot Sanae]] is notable for identifying as a miko instead of a living goddess.
* MindRape: Ayumu to Futaba, via heavy applicable of CharmPerson.
** [[spoiler: Danjuro does this on a much larger scale to the fox village.]]
* MonstrosityEqualsWeakness: While low ranking Youkai are a mixed group of monster and men, the ones on top tend to be very close to human appearances.
** Subverted at one point. A [[GiantMook Gashadokuro]] [[SuperpoweredMook empowered by the mallet]] fights Kanako on even grounds. Even when Sanae brings Kanako her [[CoolSword sword]], it's only enough to drive it off. Suwako needs to assist to finally kill it.
* NatureDocumentary: Suwako's and Kanako's favorite TV Shows.
* NervesOfSteel: All of the Moriya Shrine, but they approach it from different directons.
** Kanako and Suwako are experienced.
** [[DissonantSerenity Sanae reaches serenity.]]
** [[FearlessFool Ayumu just doesn't care]].
* NeutralNoLonger: The Scarlet Devil Mansion only gets involved in DDC after Sukuna's disastrous attempt to recruit Flandre.
* NominalHero: Remilia. Her motivations fall under Annoyance/Revenge and Mutual Interest.
* OhCrap: Yukari inspires this reaction.
** Seija when her attempt to [[spoiler:recruit Utsuho backfires]].
** Remilia upon realizing [[spoiler:Flandre has gone berserk]].
* PartyScattering: Ayumu has had this happen to him. Once was a brawl in Old Hell separating him from Kanako and Sanae. Another was when he was shot from the sky, splitting him from Suwako.
* PortalDoor: Yukari's [Gap] and the entrance to the Netherworld.
* PowerCopying: When Ayumu enters someone else's dream, he can wake up with a copy of their spellcard, albeit at much reduced power.
** This ability is what convinces Kanako that he's telling the truth about Yukari requesting the Moriya to join the DDC incident.
* [[PowerMakesYourHairGrow Power Makes A Tail Grow]]: There are two ways for a kitsune to gain another tail: age 100 years, or gather sufficient power to spontaneously grow a new one.
** One a kitsune hits nine tails, instead of gaining more they lose a tail until they're left with one and become a Tenko.
** [[spoiler:Ayumu gains his sixth tail post [=CoPT=]]].
* PrettyFreeloader: She maybe under house arrest, but Sukuna is still a freeloader.
* {{Reincarnation}}: Akyuu has and will go through this, dying before she's 20.
** Akyuu would like to live a normal life just once. Ayumu decides to make that happen.
* RingsOfDeath: Suwako's weapon of choice.
** Sanae's [[SummonBiggerFish Summon Suwako spellcard]] also uses them.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler:What Danjuro expected the Moriya to do, after being attacked by a mysterious fox. Instead of launching an immediate assault on the fox village that would let him consolidate power, they actually investigate what's going on.]]
** Yukari has also done this.
---> [[spoiler:'''Danjuro:''']]] It's like Yukari all over again; [[CurbstompBattle a ten-minute-disaster]] followed by centuries of clean-up.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Ayumu and Sanae, although Kanako and Suwako can also fit the dynamic.
* SchizoTech: Ayumu is suprised to find a TV inside of the shrine. There is a mix of stuff from the time the Barrier was made, current times, and Kappa/Moon Stuff.
* SelfDuplication: One of Suwako's tricks. It lets her post sentries. As long as she keeps them on the main shrine, she reclaims their energy when they dispell, making them a source of MundaneUtility.
** [[spoiler:The Moriya also made use of them to fake having more shrine maidens than they did at their other shrines. Suwako would keep 'office hours' at the shrines and gather faith to fuel the Moriya's aggressive expansion. When the underground reversed the Moriya's fortune, they had to stop this practice.]]
* {{Shapeshifter}}: The kitsune are an entire race of them. Suwako can also assume frog form.
** Ayumu and Suwako mostly use this ability to be travel sized and carried by Sanae.
* SleepModeSize: Suwako, by default.
** [[spoiler:When Kanako overuses her powers, she reverts to chibi form. She makes a point to avoid being seen like this.]]
* SmugSnake: Several in the story.
** Seija, the ‘mastermind’ behind the DDC incident.
** [[spoiler: Danjuro, who organized Continuation of Past Tragedies, tried to kill Kanako. When Suwako and Ayumu show up right in front of him, he brags about it and tries to kill them too.]]
* SharpDressedMan: Ayumu, he loves his suits. Reisen is a [[SharpDressedMan Sharp Dressed Woman.]]
* ShrineToSelf: The Moriya Shrine has a big painting of Kanako and Suwako above the altar. Not suprising, they are goddesses and this is their temple.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Moriya deciding NOT to immediately investigate [[spoiler:the Fox Village after the attack on the Human Village]].
** Meta-example, Erien had been leading up to [[spoiler:Ayumu to revealing his Last Word against Seija in the ambush.]] The players decided they'd rather [[spoiler: call in Yukari]]. [[RuleOfCool Erien rolled with it.]]
* SpeakOfTheDevil: Yukari knows when her name is spoken.
* SpellLevels: Spellcards can be kind of vague, but Last Words tend to be just that.
* StealthPun: The entire conversation with Sekibanki has her using idioms relating to heads.
* StockAnimalDiet: Fried tofu is a stereotypical food for kitsune to like. Ran and Ayumu can both be found eating it at the same restaurant.
* SummonBiggerFish: Most notably, [[spoiler:when Seija has Ayumu and Sanae on the ropes, Ayumu summons Yukari.]]
** Sanae can use her spellcards to summon Kanako and Suwako to her side.
* SuperMode: All kitsune have a battle fox form that provides great increases to their abilities, but drains power much faster.
** At full power Ayumu could maintain it for hours. When he first comes to Gensokyo, he can only hold it for a few minutes.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: [[spoiler:Directly attacking the Human Village]]. Just hearing that made [[NeutralNoLonger Yukari get serious]].
* ThunderDrum: Raiko has a few floating behind her.
* TooDumbToFool: Utsuho. Satori is very clear on what Utsuho's duties are, and Seija's attempts to sic Utsuho on Gensokyo are not among them.
* TrueCompanions: Ayumu and the Moriya may be evolving into this.
* TunnelKing: Suwako and her ridiculous digging Speed.
* VampiricDraining: Flandre is in the middle of this when Sukuna arrives.
* WallOfWeapons: The Moriya have one in their basement.
* WarIsHell: Ayumu was in the firebombing of Tokyo.
** [[spoiler:Kanako was a soldier fighting against Suwako and her army on a bloody battlefield that haunts Kanako's dreams, even in the present day.]]
* WeatherOfWar: Kanako calls up a storm to aid them during the finale of [=CoPT=].
* WhamEpisode: The attack on [[spoiler:the Human Village and the Moriya Shrine.]]
** [[spoiler:Ayumu's meeting with Yukari near the end of [=CoPT=], where he asks Yukari about [[spoiler:Ran's possible relation to the events. Which not only turns out to exist, but is tied to Ayumu's own tragedy. It ends in Ayumu and Yukari both achieving a measure of catharsis for their past.]]
* WorldOfActionGirls: It's Touhou, but this story has a lot of them in action.
%%* YouAreNotAlone: The Moriya to Ayumu.
