* JackOfAllStats: The main strength of Universe 7 during the Tournament of Power arc is this. While the other universes have fighters who are either stronger than most of the group or have gimmicky abilities, Universe 7 has the all-around strongest team in the tournament.Each fighter has years of experience, vast arrays of attacks, and the knowledge to keep fighting for longer periods then any other universe. For example Master Roshi, the weakest member of the team, is stronger then the top warriors of Universe 4, while Goku, their strongest member, is stronger then all but roughly two people in the tournament. It's telling that in most cases, the only reason they lose a fighter is because an opponent takes advantage of a moment of weakness to knock them out.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Tagoma becomes one after four months of being Frieza's punching bag. He dispassionately kills his own comrade to take down an enemy and gleefully rips Piccolo's arm off.
** Ginyu who stole the body of one of his comrades, [[FateWorseThanDeath condemning them to live the rest of their life as a frog]].
** Frieza, where to start with him? He's a BadBoss who regularly demeans, tortures, and kills his men, and laughs when they are killed by the enemy. He also tortures Gohan for reminding him of Goku's mercy. Also unlike the movie where he fought Goku fairly, [[spoiler: at least until he lost]], he attacks Goku's friends when he loses his advantage.
** [[spoiler: Frost]] turns out to be one. He start wars that he stops with his army, buys the broken planet on the cheap, and then sells it at a high price.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black is a big one]]. In his debut episode, [[spoiler: he murders Future Bulma and (seemingly) Mai in front of Trunks]], and gloats about how he's going to kill Trunks as he mourns [[spoiler: Mai]]. He also goes as far as calling death a blessing for foolish humans, which really sets Trunks off. Also, [[spoiler: when he reveals himself as Zamasu who took Goku's body using the Super Dragon Balls, he says he killed the original Goku with his own body. He then brags about killing Goku's family, which really [[RageBreakingPoint ticks]] Goku off]].
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] believes Goku is a jerk because he dares to battle the gods.
** Barry Kahn is a jerk to almost everyone, including the director of the Great Saiyaman film, the intended stunt double for the Great Saiyaman (until Gohan took his place), and Gohan himself. He acts nice to Mr. Satan, but that's all a facade to get him to do what he wants. He's also polite to the ladies, for all the wrong reasons.
* JerkassGod:
** Beerus, especially when compared to ''Battle of Gods''. Since Beerus has been awake a day and a half longer, we see him actively destroying planets after eating all the food and all his {{Disproportionate Retribution}}s. We also see in a FlashBack Beerus crushing King Vegeta's head into the floor for not finding the most comfortable pillow in the universe, saying he didn't care if he had to steal or kill for it. He also goes out of his way to intimidate Vegeta and calls the Saiyans cowardly since the last time he saw them. His Ki outright terrifies Dende, he utterly humiliates Gotenks far worse than a mere ComedicSpanking, and that slap he gave Bulma that sent Vegeta reddish with rage in the movie? Here he puts his hand up with a devious grin on his face, freezing her in fear as Vegeta begs him not to hit her, then he knocks her out with a backhand which also sends her sliding across the boat with only Goten and Trunks stopping her from falling off or hitting something headfirst, which likely would've killed her as she's not superhuman. Sure, Beerus could've vaporized her with a thought if he had any real desire to kill her, but he was enjoying taunting Vegeta a little too much--something Vegeta even [[LampshadeHanging noted himself]] in his attempted RoaringRampageOfRevenge. In the Champa Saga, [[spoiler: he didn't care that Champa is going to murder his entire team, since it's Champa's universe and none of his concern, and mockingly asks Goku if he's going to fight a god. He then tells Goku that he did well, but he has no part in any of this since they're pawns]].
** Champa isn't too much better given that he destroyed a number of planets while searching for the Super Dragon Balls. He is also ruder to Vados than Beerus is to Whis. At the same time, he [[{{downplayed}} downplays]] this aspect of his personality since he acts polite to Goku and Vegeta, even given them the eggs he brought for Beerus. He also took no offense to Goku calling him [[LampshadeHanging fat Beerus]]. However, he reveals what a SoreLoser he is when he's about to [[spoiler: kill his entire team for losing the tournament. He is only stopped by Zen'o's arrival]]. His character development over the course of the series softens him up quite a bit, but he can still be an asshole at times.
** Whis reveals that Zen'o can be this, at least for moments. [[spoiler: In the past, he destroyed 6 universes, when there was once 18]]. In the Universe Survival Saga, Zen'o planned to destroy [[spoiler: at least eight universes because he thought there were too many. The Tournament of Power was the perfect excuse to do this and give one of the eight doomed universes a chance to save itself]].
** Zamasu is firmly convinced that mortals are all stupid and brutal who never learn from their mistakes to the extent that he openly suggests just [[FinalSolution wiping them all out]]. [[spoiler: Future Zamasu teams up with [[OmnicidalManiac Goku Black]] (another Zamasu) to do exactly that]]. Also, when [[spoiler: Present]] Zamasu raids [[spoiler:Zuno's temple, he threatens to kill Zuno if he didn't answer his questions about the Super Dragon Balls and Goku. He even tries to murder his own master for his earrings so he can use the Time Ring and is only stopped thanks to Whis and Beerus' intervention]].
** It's revealed that [[spoiler: Goku Black is Present Zamasu who wasn't killed by Beerus. When he takes Goku's body, he's officially a Supreme Kai since he murdered Gowasu. His first act after acquiring Goku's body is to murder him and his entire family in cold blood. From there, he recruits Future Zamasu and kills all the gods in the multiverse before beginning his campaign to wipe out mortals]].
** Just like his components, [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] cares for nothing and no one but himself and is an OmnicidalManiac.
** Rō, the Supreme Kai of Universe 9, is a massive SmugSnake who spends nearly every moment since his introduction berating Universe 7 as weak. The Kais of Universe 7, admittedly more tolerant of mortals than normal, find his conduct unbecoming of a Kai.
** The various gods of Universes 1, 5, 8, and 12 don't hesitate to rub their status as the four strongest universes in the faces of the other gods, since it means [[spoiler:they aren't at risk of being destroyed by Zen'o]].
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** After Goku's losses to Frost, Beerus yells at him that he'd have won if he fought all-out. Although neither knew about [[spoiler: Frost's poison needle]] at the time, it's probably true that if it had been Goku's priority, he could have taken out Frost quickly and easily. Instead, he wanted to test his opponent's ability and gave mercy towards Frost since he didn't want to beat him up anymore since he's a NiceGuy.
** Despite being one of the most evil characters in the franchise, Zamasu's overall view on mortals and even the gods to an extent are not entirely unfounded:
*** Mortals do misuse the knowledge of the gods and have committed several atrocities like: Frieza and the Saiyans who were cold-hearted planet brokers who regularly committed genocide for profit, Dr. Gero who used his great mind to create mass-murdering androids (one who actually sucked people through his tail) all to get back at Goku, and Bibidi and Babidi who unleashed Majin Buu on Universe 7 that caused the deaths of almost all the upper gods and killed billions of people. Zamasu's FatalFlaw, however, is his [[BlackAndWhiteInsanity inability]] to see that not all mortals are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil evil by nature]].
*** His assession of the Babarians proves sound; Gowasu brought him there to demonstrate that mortals weren't inherently evil and capable of maturation, yet even after one millennium, there was no moral growth to observe in the species.
*** He also has a point about the gods' inaction against mortals who abused the knowledge of the gods. The suffering caused by Frieza, Bibidi, and Babidi could have been avoided if the gods were more active. Beerus specifically let Frieza do what he wanted and even approved of him destroying the Saiyans for [[DisproportionateRetribution petty reasons]].
** Beerus is ''really'' against Goku's idea of All-Universe Tournament, because it involves [[TopGod Zen'o]]; he even threatens to ''vaporize'' Goku. However, knowing that Zen'o is even more casual and apathetic to life than even him, destroyed six universes just because something annoyed him, and the losers of upcoming tournament will have [[spoiler: ''their entire universes'' destroyed]], it's hard to disagree. But it's later revealed that Zen'o was [[spoiler: already planning to destroy at least eight universes and the tournament actually gives the universe with a low mortal level a chance to save itself]]. So what Goku did was a good thing, although the gods [[UngratefulBastard still hate him]].
** After being defeated by Goku, Bergamo calls the latter out for not caring about the state of the multiverse and the fact that the other gods will hate him because of this. While he himself isn't a saint, he brings up a very good point about Goku, especially considering Goku's nonchalant reaction to the other universes being erased.
** [[spoiler: Frieza]] himself has a point after he comes back to participate in the tournament. There's not much difference to a mortal between being slain quickly and brutally by [[spoiler: Frieza]], and dying from having their universe destroyed by Zen'o because they lost the tournament.
* JerkJock: Barry Kahn ''tries'' to invoke the "bad boy biker in a leather jacket" persona that {{Chick Magnet}}s like Creator/JamesDean are famous for being. Unlike James Dean, who as a rule played JerkWithAHeartOfGold characters, Barry is just a plain old jerk.
* JokeCharacter: [[spoiler: Monaka isn't as strong as Beerus' claim, and he's only there just as a way to motivate Goku and Vegeta to grow stronger and win the tournament. He still ends up winning U7 the tournament since Hit chose to throw his match against him as a way to repay Goku who willingly forfeited his match since he got tired of Beerus and Champa's bickering.]]
* TheJuggernaut: Magetta is NighInvulnerable and strong enough to fight people with god powers. However, the ''real'' reason he's this trope is because of his special ability: the longer he fights and the angrier he gets, [[HulkingOut the more powerful he becomes]]. Once he gets going, he can be hard to stop, as Vegeta finds out. In the end, even as a Super Saiyan, Vegeta can't actually do anything more than stun him for a few moments and has to ring him out.
* JumpedAtTheCall: It only takes a few words from [[spoiler: Goku Black]] to get [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] onboard the "Zero Mortal Plan" with a huge SlasherSmile. They even hug to seal their alliance.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: Although he has been SlowlySlippingIntoEvil since his introduction, Zamasu jumps after he learns about the Super Dragon Balls. Instead of waiting a year to use the Super Dragon Balls, he decides to [[spoiler: murder his own master and steal his earrings so he can used the Time Ring, jump ahead a year, wish for Goku's body, and then begin his quest to wipe out all the mortals. Zamasu even admits his acts are evil, but [[KnightTemplar it's all to serve a greater good]]]]. At the same time, [[spoiler: Future Zamasu deserves special mention. When Goku Black murders Gowasu, he is at first horrified and rushes to his master's side. After some words from Goku Black, he immediately joins his side and helps him murder all the other gods in the universes before going on to wipe out mortals]].
* JumpScare: Beerus pulls one on Vegeta for his entrance to the party, intentionally freaking him out beforehand and then getting behind him and pretending to blast him in the neck. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness The fact that Vegeta actually jumps in panic makes it all the freakier.]]
* JusticeWillPrevail: Zamasu believes that he will and must succeed in his goals since he is doing the gods' justice. [[spoiler: Merged]] Zamasu takes it a step further and declares himself as [[IAmTheNoun justice itself]]. Which is why he is shocked when [[spoiler: Future Trunks finds the power to overcome him]].
--> '''[[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]]''': Mortals would retaliate against a god!? Against justice!?
* JustToyingWithThem:
** Beerus vs. anyone he's up against. They're so far beneath him that any leeway they get is at his discretion. He also tries this against Super Saiyan God Goku. He says that he didn't use his full power before because he thought it was beneath him to fight a Saiyan all out. He changes his mind and says that he just wants to beat Goku up. However, this turns out to be a lie to motive Goku to bring out all his latent power. Beerus never comes close to using his full power at any time during his fight with Goku. We later find out what happens when Beerus gets ''serious'' and feels something (or someone) needs destroyed and ''now''. [[spoiler:Insane KnightTemplar Supreme Kai who is almost as strong as Super Saiyan 2 Goku who tries to kills his master? He says the word "Destroy" and Zamasu is ''atoms'', no energy blast required. Present Bulma making a time machine after the trouble the ''last'' one caused? BadassFingersnap and it goes boom. Miles away. In a sealed, secret room.]] If Beerus wants you dead or something destroyed enough that he stops playing around, he doesn't even ''need'' to use his muscle or ki attacks to get the job done, he just needs a word or gesture.
** Whis "trains" Goku and Vegeta by effortlessly dodging or blocking all their attacks, with a few light hits thrown in for good measure. He even writes on their clothing without either noticing.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] has a really bad habit of playing with his food since he wants to drag out fights to make himself stronger. Unlike most villains in the series, he tends to get away with this because of his rapid growth and [[NoNonsenseNemesis he knows when to stop messing around when the situation calls for it]].
** From [[spoiler: Goku Black's]] point-of-view, he was screwing around by not [[spoiler: fusing with Future Zamasu]]. His plan was to become as strong as possible before creating [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu to act as the ultimate supreme god]]. When [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] says it's time to get serious, he declares that 'play time is over' and 'it is time to show the true power of the gods'.
** It quickly becomes abundantly clear that [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] is not even ''trying'' during his fight with Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks. He still has them completely outmatched. It takes [[spoiler:''Vegito'']] to pose anything resembling a threat.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: K]]
* KansasCityShuffle: At the start of the Tournament of Power, Frieza is shown to be plotting with Frost, presumably to betray Universe 7, [[spoiler: but Frieza uses their truce to betray Frost]]. He does this [[spoiler: by faking a fight with Gohan, who was smart enough to catch on and play along]]. In the banter between them afterwards, Frieza advises Frost to [[spoiler: not trust anybody, and then eliminates him]].
* KarmaHoudini:
** Despite [[DisproportionateRetribution destroying planets for petty reasons]], killing who knows how many innocents who never even knew he existed, [[KickTheDog terrorizing and demeaning Vegeta]] who humbled himself to keep Beerus happy, ruining Bulma's birthday party because he didn't get pudding, beating up all the main characters, and nearly destroying the Earth and the universe during his fight with Goku, Beerus doesn't pay for ''any'' of it. [[TheBadGuyWins He gets everything he wanted]], except for the pudding. He walks away from destroying the planet, because he felt his fight with Goku (and the food) made the trip worth his time. It helps that as the series goes on, Beerus [[CharacterDevelopment becomes much more relaxed]] about destroying planets and his respect for mortals.
** In a roundabout way, [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu. Since a fusion character is considered a new being upon their birth (like Gotenks and Vegito), Merged Zamasu isn't Goku Black nor Future Zamasu. Therefore, Goku Black and Future Zamasu as individuals will never be made to answer for their crimes since the Potara fusion is permanent since they're both Supreme Kais]].
** Barry Kahn gets off ''very'' lightly for [[spoiler: setting Gohan up so he can ruin his marriage and kidnaps baby Pan to spite Videl and Gohan. The worst punishment he gets is him getting blackmailed by Cocoa in case he ever exposed Gohan's identity as the Great Saiyaman]].
* KarmicDeath:
** Sorbet is shot through the heart by Frieza's redirected attack thanks to Vegeta. Earlier, he shot Goku through the heart when his back was turned.
** Gryll and his gang went to Planet Potaufeu to find the Super Water that is supposed to make you thousands of times stronger. To that aim, they terrorize an old man, attacked children, and kidnapped Monaka to use as a hostage. When they unseal the Super Water, they have their power absorb by the true form of the Super Water, the Commeson. Turns out, the rumors about the Super Water is a lie. The water is really a parasite bio-weapon created by the people of Potaufeu that went out of control. The water creates a perfect copy of anyone it absorbs (taking their personality, power, and spirit) and can become stronger than the original by absorbing more people. To the rest of the universe, it appears that people become stronger from drinking the water when in truth the original person dies within a few minutes of having their power taken. Which is exactly what happens to Gryll and his men.
** This happens to [[spoiler:Merged Zamasu in Episode 66.]] His descent to villainy began when he killed a Babarian by [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe slicing the guy in half vertically]]. [[spoiler:Future Trunks destroys Merged Zamasu's physical body in the same manner]]. There's another layer to this when you consider that [[spoiler: Zamasu basically divided himself into two persons to gain power, and his final physical retribution is being split back into two against his will]]. Also, [[spoiler: his true final death is karmic since he spent his entire existence declaring himself the 'supreme, true god' of the multiverse. He is ''erased'' from existence by Future Zen'o, the true TopGod of the multiverse, without any effort]].
* KarmicJackpot: After saving the world several times over for no profit or personal gain, Goku and his family finally get their award thanks to Mr. Satan. He gives the family one hundred million Zeni, more than enough to live off of for a long time, even for two Saiyans. He also builds Gohan and Videl a huge house. However, the first part is negated a little since Chi-Chi spent all the prize money in a couple of days, seemingly spending it on the new grandbaby. This is despite Videl being rich and not needing the money. However, we later learned that Chi-Chi lied about spending all the money. Her reason, if she didn't Goku wouldn't have worked.
* KeepTheReward: When Mr. Satan tries to give Goku the World Peace Prize money for defeating Majin Buu, he initially turns it down. He actually became freakout over how much money he was being given. He eventually accepts after Goten points out that if he takes the money he can quit his job and train since Chi-Chi will be happy.
* KickTheDog:
** Beerus maybe one of the nicer villains in the series, but he still has his {{Jerkass}} moments:
*** Beerus seems to take personal offense to Vegeta's existence. Since his arrival at Bulma's party, he just can't stop kicking and demeaning Vegeta. First, he scares the poor guy half the death by sneaking up on him and quoting [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] by saying he's already dead. He then keeps given {{Death Glare}}s to Vegeta as he socialize, mocks the Saiyans for becoming cowardly since Vegeta is humbling himself to keep him happy, and outright calls Vegeta a weakling like his father while smashing his head into the floor.
*** Beerus tries to give Goku an unceremonious defeat by flicking on the forehead. It's supposed to be poetic since that was how he defeated Goku the first time. [[{{Determinator}} Goku, however, is too stubborn to go down that easily]].
*** Even though he is much nicer to Vegeta, Beerus calls Vegeta his errand boy and forces him to collect the Dragon Balls on his order.
** Frieza is back and he brought his dog kicking habit with him:
*** He orders his men specifically to attack Krillin, even offering a planet to whoever kills him. He does this because he knows Krillin's death will make Goku angry.
*** While training, Frieza tries to learn to hold back enough to keep Goku alive, but in an incredible amount of pain. He does this by 'training' with Tagoma since he dared to speak out against his revenge.
*** Frieza tortures Gohan because his act of mercy towards Ginyu sets him off.
*** Once Frieza learns it will be awhile for Goku to get to Earth, he decides to kill all his friends to push him into despair.
*** He tells Gohan that once he dies, he will murder his entire family.
*** Frieza tells Goku that once he kills him, he will destroy the Earth and then Namek to make sure the Dragon Balls can never be used again.
*** After Sorbet shoots Goku from behind, piercing his heart, Frieza spends several minutes beating the life out of him, going as far as ''stomping'' on his heart wound.
** [[spoiler: Frost]] brags about how he starts wars and sells planet to Cabba, who is shocked that [[spoiler: he cheated during the tournament]].
** Both Champa and Beerus kick the dog when [[spoiler: Champa called all the fighters at the tournament pawns and Beerus mocks Goku when he wants to save the U6 team when Champa is ready to kill them, saying that it's Champa's universe and he can do whatever he wants, unless he wants to challenged a God of Destruction]].
** [[spoiler: Goku Black's]] EstablishingCharacterMoment was him [[spoiler: killing Future Bulma in front of Trunks, and later killing Future Mai... or he tried with the latter]]. Later, [[spoiler: he tells Goku that after taking his body using the Super Dragon Balls that he kills him in front of his wife and child and then murders his family in coldblood]]. His final act of cruelty before [[spoiler: merging with Future Zamasu]] was to have Goku and Vegeta's friends and family killed by [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]], because he wants them to become stronger from their anger.
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] takes great delight in Goku's anguish when he learns [[spoiler: how Goku Black murdered his family and stole his body]].
** Barry Khan proves what a {{Jerkass}} he is by forcing a stuntman to jump on top of a speeding tank without wires, not caring if the man gets hurt or killed. He also lets Gohan do the stunt out of spite for Videl's rejection, hoping that Gohan gets injured.
* KickTheMoralityPet: Beerus meeting Goku is the reason why he goes from an amoral, selfish God of Destruction who will destroy anything that [[DisproportionateRetribution annoys him]], to being the overall BigGood in ''Super''. However, Beerus has no problem reminding Goku that ''he'' is a god while he is just a mortal whose power can't compete with him or any God of Destruction. The most vicious kick he gives is when he mocks Goku for trying to stop Champa from [[spoiler: killing his own team]], saying that since Champa is a god, he can do what he wants in his universe, and there is nothing Goku can do to stop it. He also seems to agree with Champa that Goku and the others are pawns to the gods.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown:
** After Goku is disabled from being shot in the chest, Frieza viciously kicks him and stomps on his chest wound, causing Goku to scream in anguish.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] loves doing this to his victims:
*** He belittles Future Trunks as he cries over [[spoiler: Mai's unknowingly-to-either unconscious body]], saying how death is a blessing for foolish humans. This sends Trunks into a berserk rage.
*** After [[spoiler: running Vegeta through with his energy sword]], Black dismisses him as just a [[WarmupBoss warm up]] before allowing him to fall to the ground.
*** When [[spoiler: Zamasu steals Goku's body to become Goku Black, he teleports to confront a very confused Goku who is trapped in his old body and is having a major FreakOut. Goku is trying to convince Chi-Chi that he is Goku, then Zamasu steps in and says, 'he's only Goku in heart', before killing Goku before he can even defend himself. Before he dies, Black makes it clear that he stole Goku's identity and that he is now 'Son Goku']].
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] rubs in Goku's face that [[spoiler: Goku Black murdered his family after taking his body and killing him in front of them with it]]. He did this while Black impaled Goku into a wall.
* KidsAreCruel: Grand Zeno, the Omniking, behaves like a small child and has been known to wipe out entire universes on a whim, seemingly not caring for the trillions of lives he destroys.
* KillAllHumans: [[spoiler: Goku Black's]] primary goal. He wants to wiped out all the humans in the universe to create a paradise and Earth is only his latest target. [[note]]Although, 'human' in the Dragon World is a broad phase that usually means humanoid or mortal, since in the Japanese version of the Buu Saga, the Supreme Kai and Kibito called the Saiyans humans.[[/note]]
* KillTheGods: [[spoiler: In the future timeline, Goku Black and Future Zamasu murdered all the gods in the multiverse so they alone can rule as the 'supreme god' and promote their view of justice, which is to wipe out all mortals]].
* KilledOffForReal:
** Since Frieza was 'nice' enough to kill off his remaining army during his second invasion of Earth, chances are that there is on one left alive to bring him back to life a second time. Captain Ginyu was also permanently killed by Vegeta.
** Gryll and his men dies a few minutes after the Commeson absorbs his power and personality.
** [[spoiler: The ''entire'' future timeline. After Merged Zamasu loses his body, he becomes an EldritchAbomination who becomes one with the multiverse and kills everyone except Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Future Mai, Bulma, and the Supreme Kais. Then Future Zen'o kills Merged Zamasu by destroying the timeline. So not only did everyone died in that timeline, they got wiped from ''existence'']].
* KillerRabbit: Zen'o is a cute, almost child-like being with an equally cute voice…[[spoiler: and is the single most powerful being and TopGod of the Dragon Ball Multiverse to the point he could destroy the entire multiverse in an instant if he desired to. In the past, there were once 18 Universes. Zen'o destroyed 6 of them]]. In the Future Trunks Saga, [[spoiler: his future counterpart destroys that ''entire'' timeline]].
* KillingIntent: Apparently, Beerus and Whis can sense when someone has murderous intentions. This is how they are able to detect that [[spoiler: Zamasu wants to kill Gowasu during their second visit to U10]], which does makes sense since Beerus is the God of Destruction, so sensing ill intentions in others would be second nature to him. Whis' ability to sense killing intent is not explained, but given his constant proximity to Beerus, is not surprising either. Goku and the U7 Supreme Kai, by contrast, are not able to sense it.
* KissOfLife: A variation occurs in Episode 60, when [[spoiler: Future Trunks]] aids [[spoiler: Future Mai]] by chewing a Senzu and passing it mouth-to-mouth. Senzus have been shown in the past to work without needing to be chewed, so this was unnecessary, [[spoiler: though Future Trunks may well not have known that. When Future Trunks has a dream about Future Mai returning the favor, he wakes up and sees Future Yajirobe hanging over him. Fortunately for Trunks, the refugees had just ground the bean up normally.]]
* KlingonPromotion: Tagoma kills Shisami, and mortally wounds Gohan to the point his heart stops. This impresses Freeza to the point of making him the new commander of his army should he beat the rest of the Z Fighters.
* {{Kneecapping}}: Frieza shoots Tagoma in both his knees and elbows for suggesting that he not antagonize Goku. [[SparedByTheAdaptation Better than getting tossed into space.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: [[spoiler: Goku Black's]] introduction marks the darkest tone ''Super'' has ever reached, which has mostly been light-hearted and humor-centered outside of Frieza's return. In his introduction episode, not only does he cause a second apocalypse on Future Trunks' Earth, he also [[spoiler: murders Future Bulma and almost kills Mai]]. Also, unlike most of the villains in the series, ''nothing'' about him is PlayedForLaughs. The ending of the saga also marks one of the [[GutPunch darkest chapters]] in the entire franchise.
* KnightTemplar:
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] fully believes that he's on a crusade for justice by eliminating all mortals, the one failure of the gods, and is creating a beautiful paradise. Despite his supposedly good intentions, Whis calls Black's aura cold and evil. In Episode 63, when [[spoiler: Gowasu calls him out on [[KillTheGods murdering all the gods in the multiverse]], Black calmly justifies it by stating that the other gods would never understand his ideals and would try to stop him]].
** Zamasu is slowly moving in this direction, believing that mortals are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil inherently evil]] and should be wiped out for the good of the universe. He also believes that the Kais only watching over mortals is a sin instead of taking direct action. [[spoiler: Eventually, he does become a full on knight templar and works with Goku Black]]. Before Present Zamasu tries to [[spoiler: kill Gowasu]], he tells his master that he now understands that evil can lead to a greater good.
** Just like all his other counterparts, [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] believes that mortals are foolish, stupid creatures who only use the knowledge of the gods to kill themselves. To that end, [[spoiler: he helps Goku Black murder all the other gods]] and kill mortals, all in the name of 'justice'.
** Like [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu, Merged Zamasu]] believes that he's creating a paradise by wiping out the mortals who disrespects the gods. However, it's clear after all his AGodAmI speeches that this is all a thinly veiled excuse to remake the multiverse in his image and rule as the sole supreme god.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: L]]
* LackOfEmpathy: A common staple of the villains in this series:
** Beerus zigzags. Since he is a God of Destruction, it is his job to destroy planets, which means it's his duty to kill a lot of people. So, it would make sense that killing would be impersonal to him. At the same time, he can and will kill without remorse outside of his job. When Goku calls Beerus out for attacking the Earth during their battle, he dismisses Goku's concern, saying that their battle was a battle between gods, so the lives of mortals didn't really matter. He also didn't care when Champa [[spoiler: was ready to murder his entire team for losing the tournament]], saying it is Champa's universe and he can do whatever he wants.
** Frieza's MO. He doesn't care about anyone but himself, and condemns his own father to Hell after his revival because he's 'pushy'. He also didn't care when his men are beating by the Z-Fighters, Tagoma killing Shisami, Tagoma getting his body stolen by Ginyu, or Ginyu getting killed by Vegeta. He actually laughs after Ginyu dies.
** After being tortured for four months by Frieza as part of his 'training', Tagoma loses his ability to empathize with others, calling it a weakness. He kills Shisami just to take down Gohan and belittles Sorbet for being weak and merciful.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] thinks nothing of the people he murders, calling death a blessing for them. He also mocks Future Trunks over [[spoiler: Mai's apparent death]], assuring him that he will join her soon. It's later revealed that he [[spoiler: also murdered Goku after taking his body through the Super Dragon Balls, and then kills his family for no other reason than to be cruel]].
** Zamasu feels no empathy towards mortals, seeing them as sinful creatures who are AlwaysChaoticEvil. When told by Goku about all the horrible things [[spoiler: his future counterpart has done to the world]], instead of being shocked or regretful, he's glad that his dream has become a reality. He also feels nothing about [[spoiler: murdering his own master to steal his earrings and the Time Ring]].
* LaserBlade:
** Zamasu can create a blade out of his energy, which he uses to split a Babarian in half. [[spoiler: Future Zamasu also uses one during his battle again Goku and Future Trunks]].
** Much like Zamasu, [[spoiler: Goku Black]] can create a sword out of his energy, which he uses to [[spoiler: impale Vegeta]]. This is a hint that Black is [[spoiler: a version of Zamasu]].
** [[spoiler:During the final battle, Future Trunks concentrates his ki into his broken sword, turning it into a golden laser sword. After he absorbs the Spirit Bomb-esque energy from the people of Earth, he powers it up into a sparkling blue {{BFS}}.]]
** During the [[spoiler:battle between the Gods of Destruction]], Liquir summons one to try and attack [[spoiler: Iwen and Arak]] while they're distracted. They dodge without even [[NonchalantDodge looking at him]].
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** Tagoma who ruthless kills one of his own teammates and calls himself better than the Ginyu Force is body-jacked by Captain Ginyu.
** Vegeta lampshades if Ginyu had stayed in his frog's body that he wouldn't have to die now. Before Ginyu can react, Vegeta vaporized him into nothingness.
** Sorbet is indirectly killed by the master he went out of his way to revive. On top of that, he brought Frieza back since he saw him as the only hope to save the empire, which have been falling apart without Frieza's power and fear factor. Bringing back Frieza completely destroys what is left of the trade organization because he couldn't let go of the fact that Goku defeated him.
** Frieza is overwhelmed and beating to the point of despair and tears by Vegeta, just like he did to him during their final battle on Namek.
** Frost gets hit with this big-time once [[spoiler: his true colors are revealed during the tournament. He's sent flying with one punch by Vegeta, knocked unconscious by Hit after trying to steal Champa's cube, and as of Episode 71, he's currently a fugitive on the run from the very people who once worshipped and loved him]].
** Champa's complete disregard towards his fighters by calling them pawns causes Goku to become disillusion with the entire tournament and he [[spoiler: throws his match against Hit. He then throws his match against Monaka as a favor towards Goku, which causes U6 to lose the tournament]].
** Bulma, Trunks, and Whis sees Beerus being forced to dressed into a [[spoiler: Monaka costume]] as karma for him lying to Goku about how [[spoiler: strong Monaka is]].
** Gryll and his men went to Planet Potaufeu to find the Super Water to make themselves stronger. To that aim, they attacked Potage and hold Monaka hostage to gain access to the water. They get exactly what they wanted and are absorb by the Commeson, the true form of the Super Water. Within a minutes of having their strength taken, they fade away.
** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] is done in because [[spoiler: Goku Black wasn't an immortal when Future Zamasu and he fused, which compromised his immortality]]. He's still extremely tough, but his healing factor is flawed to the point that enough power can destroy his body. [[spoiler: The karma comes in that Zamasu went through a lot of trouble to take Goku's body and became so obsessed with growing stronger that he didn't desire immorality, unlike Future Zamasu. [[TheMindIsAPlayThingOfTheBody A trait that he inherited from Goku]]. Also, he and his components have put their signature energy blade to good use harming others, with Present Zamasu's StartOfDarkness being bisecting an alien with it. Trunks uses a ki blade of his own (drawing power from all surviving life on the planet) to land the finishing blow on his physical body, bisecting him just like Zamasu did his first victim]]. His final death is him [[spoiler: being erased by Future Zen'o, the real TopGod of the multiverse, after Merged Zamasu proclaimed himself as the supreme god]].
* LaResistance: Future Mai is one of the leaders of the humans trying to take down [[spoiler: Goku Black]].
* LastOfHisKind:
** Potage is the last of his species. The others died sealing away the Commeson.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] calls Future Trunks the last of the Saiyans.
* LastSecondChance: Gowasu and U7's Supreme Kai shows up in Future Trunks’ timeline and begs [[spoiler: Future Zamasu and Goku Black]] to stop their nonsense and revive everyone they killed with the Super Dragon Balls. [[spoiler: Black coldly reveals that he destroyed the Super Dragon Balls making it impossible to undo their destruction, and it's only thanks to Goku and Vegeta's intervention that Gowasu and U7's Supreme Kai don't get blown up on the spot by Black and Future Zamasu]].
* LastStand: Each of the Universes participating in the Tournament of Power have one final climatic battle before their erasure.
** The Trio of Danger become the final opponents from Universe 9. However, they're overwhelmed by SSB Goku and Vegeta.
** Obuni of Universe 10 is practically the only warrior that can prove to be formidable in his universe, and he fights Gohan for the fate of his universe and family.
** After Ribrianne is defeated by Android 18, Zirloin, Zarbuto and Rabanra become Universe 2's last chance for survival, copying the powers of the Maiden Squadron. They managed to give Goku, Androids 17 and 18 a hard time before being knocked off the stage.
** Parallel to this, the two Namekians of Universe 6, Saonel and Pirina, face Gohan and Piccolo to decide their Universe's fate.
** Universe 4's last stand comes in the form of Damon the cicada. [[AntiClimaxBoss ...He becomes a total joke.]]
** After proving to be an IronButtMonkey for most of the Tournament, Universe 3 stops pulling its punches after Viara's elmination and reveals its last resort--Anilaza, a fusion of 4 fighters from their universe. This opponent proves to be real formidable--it took all of Universe 7's remaining warriors' combined power to defeat it!
** Lastly, Universe 11 has Jiren--a being stronger than the Gods of Destruction, and THE strongest being our heroes have ever faced. He certainly lived up to the hype.
** Likewise, [[spoiler:Goku, Frieza and Android 17 serve as this for Universe 7, being the three reamining warriors standing in the last moments of the tournament.]]
* LaughingMad: After his physical body is destroyed, [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] is reduced to laughing insanely as [[spoiler:his body turns to energy and [[OneWingedAngel he becomes a world spanning]] EldritchAbomination]]. After that, his dialog is basically reduced to mindless, insane laughter.
* TheLawOfDiminishingDefensiveEffort: Demonstrated by Jiren in Episode 109. He stands still and absorbs countless blows from Goku at Super Saiyan 1 and 2 (to [[NoSell no effect]]); when Goku goes Super Saiyan God Jiren starts blocking with one hand but otherwise remains still; and only when Goku uses Super Saiyan Blue does Jiren begin dodging and blocking properly.
* LaymansTerms:
** When Mr. Satan tries to give Goku the 100 million Zeni reward for defeating Buu, [[IdiotHero Goku]] asks how much that is in terms of thousands. Satan tells him that it's one hundred thousand thousands, and Goku freaks out over such a large number.
** In the English dub, Whis had to used very simply language to explain to Mr. Satan that Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus' battle may destroy the universe or at the very least the local star system.
** Goku is confused by Whis' explanation of the 12 universes. Vegeta says he will explain them again to him later.
* TheLeader:
** Bergamo is this to the Trio De Dangers from Universe 9, though it probably helps that he's the eldest brother.
** Goku makes Gohan the levelheaded captain of the U7 team for the Tournament of Power. His job is mostly to come up with battle strategies and team formations.
* LeanAndMean:
** Beerus is particularly lanky and wiry, having a much slighter frame than the other powerful characters like Goku and Vegeta. While not ''evil'', per se, he's easily irritated and will kill or destroy the world of anyone who pushes him too far over seemingly arbitrary things. Plus, while he doesn't kill for ''no'' reason, he views mortals as expendable and almost ''any'' reason is justified to him. [[BerserkButton And don't call him "skinny"]].
** [[spoiler: Goku Black is noticeably thinner than Goku in appearance. He's also a coldblooded mass-murderer]].
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
** When Whis tells Beerus it'll take about 22 and a half minutes to reach King Kai's planet, Beerus remarks that's just long enough to watch an anime episode. Sure enough, they arrive at the same point in the next episode.
** When explaining the rules for the Tournament of Power, the Grand Priest mentions that the time limit will be 100 ''tak''. Whis explains this translates to about 48 minutes, which incidentally is the runtime for two episodes, barring any time shenanigans similar to [[MagicCountdown Namek's "last 5 minutes."]] Of course, the 48 minute tournament lasts over a year's worth of episodes.
* LeaveHimToMe:
** Piccolo tries to fight Tagoma alone. He gets his arm wiped off for his trouble.
** Gohan tells everyone to stand back as he fights Ginyu. He is much more successfully than Piccolo and takes Ginyu down in two hits after turning Super Saiyan.
** Frieza insists on killing Gohan personally after Gohan offers to spare Ginyu in the same manner as Goku offered to spare Frieza back on Namek. Justified, since Gohan had proven himself superior to Ginyu, and Frieza had already shot Gohan through the shoulder before making the demand.
** Goku calls first dibs on Frieza since Vegeta wasted his turn killing Ginyu.
** After Goku is taken out of the fight by Sorbet, Vegeta takes on Frieza.
** [[spoiler: Although Frost was disqualified for cheating, Vegeta has the decision [[HonorBeforeReason reversed]] so he can fight Frost himself]].
** [[spoiler: Zamasu stops Goku Black from killing Goku, as he wants that pleasure for himself]].
** [[spoiler: After gaining a new form of Super Saiyan, Future Trunks urges everyone to retreat to the past while he holds Goku Black and Future Zamasu off]].
** In their final match, Vegeta calls dibs on Black, saying that he won't lose to [[spoiler: a fake Goku since he's superior to the real one]].
* LethalJokeCharacter: The reason given for [[Manga/DrSlump Arale's]] power is that {{Shonen}} -Style fighting is not effective against Gag-manga characters.
* LetsGetDangerous:
** At first, Magetta is slow and clumsy to the point that Vegeta can easily dodge his attacks. He then gets serious, powers up, and overwhelms Vegeta, forcing him to go Super Saiyan.
** Zen'o. [[spoiler:After his Future self arrives to see what Merged Zamasu (who has at this point become a reality encompassing EldritchAbomination) has done, he wastes no time powering up and one shotting him.]]
* LetsYouAndHimFight:
** [[Manga/DrSlump Arale]] fights Goku and Vegeta in Episode 69 due to having been drugged by Dr. Mashirito, making her more 'playful' then usual.
** Jaco attacks Gohan in his Great Saiyaman form, assuming from no apparent basis that he must be the host of Watagash. In-universe, this is also the plot of the "Great Saiyaman vs. Mr. Satan" movie, though we're not given the details.
* LightDarknessJuxtaposition: This is seen with [[EvilDuo Goku Black and Zamasu]]. Goku Black is the EvilTwin of [[TheHero Goku]] and is an [[GoodColorsEvilColors evil]] PaletteSwap of the hero, invoking DarkIsEvil with his [[EvilWearsBlack dark colored clothing]], black colored ki, and being shrouded in shadows. Zamasu on the other hand is associated with light and invokes LightIsNotGood, being the equivalent of a FallenAngel, traversing quickly using divine light, and naming all of his attacks with either divine or light themes. And then, it's revealed they are actually the same person thanks to a very complicated TimeyWimeyBall.
* LightIsNotGood:
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] descends from the heavens on a pillar of golden light and [[spoiler: he's a Kai, one of the Gods of Creation]]. He's just as AxCrazy as [[spoiler: Goku Black]].
** Despite the black clothing, the aura that appeared after [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] fuses is a bright heavenly one, as well as manifesting a bright halo behind him. He also keeps comparing himself to the light, declaring he would show the power of the light of a god, and how he was the sun shining. One of the attacks he uses is a bright light that starts to destroy everything on its path, [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI similar to Kefka's Light of Judgement.]] It even has a similar name, Light of Justice.
* LighterAndSofter:
** The Champa Saga when compared to the Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' Saga. There is no primary villain and no high stakes since the Earth will only be moved to U6 if Goku's team losses and death is prohibited, for the most part, since it is a tournament. This was done on purpose by [[WordOfGod Toriyama]] who wanted a light arc after the intense stories of the previous sagas.
** Despite the [[DarkerAndEdgier darker]] retellings of the movie arcs, the series is generally more lighthearted than ''Dragon Ball Z'' since Beerus wasn't particularly evil, Frieza's return wasn't taken completely seriously and he was killed before he did any lasting harm, and the Champa Saga had no primary villain and was a simple tournament. There are also the in-between {{Breather Episode}}s which are more comedy based. It's not until the Future Trunks Saga that the tone starts to match that of ''Z''.
** The blood and gore that defined ''Z'' is almost completely absent in ''Super'' due to the timeslot in Japan being for children's cartoons. The fight scenes are also much less brutal and tend to involve more ki blasts than physical violence.
** While the English Creator/{{Funimation}} dub is aimed at older audiences and airs in the evening and at nighttime, this merely means that the dub can get away with more frequent (mild) swearing and more obvious adult humor. The overall tone remains more fun and whimsical than ''DBZ'', which is noticeable with ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'' airing concurrently with ''Super'' on Creator/{{Toonami}}.
* ALighterShadeOfBlack:
** Beerus and Champa compared to all of the other villains in the franchise. They are both {{Jerkass God}}s who are high functional {{Sociopath}}es, with Beerus specifically being fond of his {{Disproportionate Retribution}}s since he was willing to destroy the Earth over not getting pudding. However, neither of them are really evil and can show some level of care for others and can even form friendships, unlike King Piccolo, Frieza, Cell, and Super/Kid Buu, who were all unrepentant monsters to their dying breath. Even Piccolo, Vegeta, and Fat Buu before their HeelFaceTurn were more evil than Beerus and Champa.
** [[spoiler: Frost]] falls into this in comparison to Frieza. While [[spoiler: Frost may be a crime lord and con-artist who profiteers off war like Frieza used to do, he isn't a sadist]]. He is motivated mostly by money and respect, which although hardly noble, is a very "human". It's how he achieves it that makes him evil. To his credit, however, he could have easily strong-armed an entire city once his true colors were revealed or tried to wage an universal war using what was left of his empire. Instead, he lives on the streets in hiding and tries not to harm anyone despite his great power. Even when caught by Hit with no chance to escape, he chooses to [[FaceDeathWithDignity silently accept his fate]] instead of blowing up the planet. At the same time, this could be PragmaticVillainy since any action on his part would cause the Saiyans, his former allies, to come after him.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Goku and Bulma remain extremely close since they've been friends since childhood. Bulma even puts more faith in Goku to solve any problem than her own husband, which [[RunningGag never]] fails to annoy Vegeta.
* LimitedAnimation: Inverted, but played with in an odd way when Goku is using Ultra Instinct. In many of the shots, he's excellently animated, but acting in a way that implies he's [[DissonantSerenity relaxed and seemingly passive]], but much of the action such as dodging and hitting are too fast to break the illusion of him being so calm. This is in contrast with his normal fighting, which is often animated less well, but he's much more active in his visible movements.
* LittleBitBeastly: {{Subverted}} with Cabba. Goku and Vegeta are shocked that Cabba doesn't have a tail. The Saiyans from U6 have evolved past the need for them.
* TheLoad: Buu is by far the least dependable Z-Fighter bar none. Whenever there is a crisis or a need for his power, he falls asleep. This includes him sleeping through the entire fight with Frieza, [[spoiler: the tournament between Universe 6, and the Tournament of Power]].
* LivingShadow: Black takes this form in most of Episode 47 before his true appearance is seen.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** Frieza and his men still have no clue who Future Trunks is. They think he's either dead or retired to some backwater planet since they can't find him anywhere. Frieza also fails to realize that the little Trunks he met isn't the same one who killed him and doesn't understand why he's a child.
** Frieza also had no idea that Vegeta had become a Super Saiyan, been one for years, and was almost Goku's perfect equal having become a SSGSS himself. This comes back to bite Frieza in the ass as he essentially has to fight two guys of the same power when he only beat one by [[CombatPragmatist fighting dirty]].
** Trunks has no clue who Future Trunks is. He thinks that he's his illegitimate brother with the same name, at least going by Pilaf's comments on the matter, until his mother clears that up.
** Similarly, when Future Trunks wakes up, his last knowledge of Goku was that he's dead and didn't want to come back... therefore when he sees him, [[TraumaButton his body flashbacks to Black's actions last episode]], and tries to kill Goku thinking he's Black until he's brought out of it. In addition, while he's familiar with Dabura, Babadi, and Buu (having taken care of them), Future Trunks is unaware of certain nuances regarding the prime timeline's version, such as Android 18 having turned good or that fusion was a thing, along with all things Battle-of-Gods onward.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Zen'o. He's the TopGod of the multiverses, but no one knows of his existence, and those that do know him are [[TheDreaded so immeasurably afraid of him]], he cannot make any real friends or socialize. He takes appreciation in Goku, the only character who isn't deathly afraid of him and [[PalsWithJesus offers to be his friend]]. Goku promises to find Zen'o a friend, and manages to do so [[spoiler: by bringing his alternate self from a future timeline]].
* LongLived:
** All the known god characters have lived for millions of years. Beerus is at least over 75 million years old since that is how long Old Kai was trapped in the Z-Sword by him.
** Hit is over a thousand years old and is still in his fighting prime.
* LongRunnerTechMarchesOn: Gohan and Mr. Satan are seen using smartphones, devices that were practically unheard of back during the original manga's and anime's run. We also have media sharing sites such as Godtube, which is an obviously nod to Youtube, which didn't exist until the mid-2000s. This blends in better than many examples because similar Capsule Co. technologies have existed throughout the series. Also somewhat justified in that Dragon Ball doesn't suffer from comic book time as much as other series, and quite a bit of time passed since the beginning of Z. (For refrence, Dragon Ball started in the 80's and has a similar timeframe in universe. Goku is as of 2018 is about a decade or more older in-universe than he is in real life despite Dragon Ball being 32 years old, by the time EoZ rolls around he will be in his mid-sixties.)
* LoonyFan: [[spoiler: Goku Black]] comes off as this since he is ''obsessed'' with Goku, copying everything he does and heaping praise on him whenever they come face to face. He even says being like Goku is his life's goal. [[spoiler: It becomes even crazier and disturbing when it's revealed that he's Zamasu who actually used a wish on the Super Dragon Balls to take Goku's body, killed him and his family in cold blood, and ''then went on to use his name'']].
* LoopholeAbuse:
** The first multiverse tournament is rife with this, as Beerus and Champa both attempt to gain an advantage via {{Rules Lawyer}}ing.
*** Actually subverted the first time, as Frost claims [[spoiler: the poison needle in his arm is part of his body]], but the referee doesn't buy it.
*** Vegeta is saved from a ring-out because he landed on a piece of debris from the stage and not the ground. This is an independent example, as the referee makes this decision without goading from either side.
*** Vegeta realizes that Champa and Vados put a smaller second barrier around the stage in order to give Magetta a HomeFieldAdvantage, as he can fill it up with superheated steam and weaken his opponent, with a rule that touching the barrier is considered out-of-bounds. Vegeta clarifies that this rule doesn't take effect if he doesn't actually touch the barrier, and destroys it with his {{kiai}}.
** In the Tournament of Power, ki-based flight is blocked so the fighters can be thrown out of the ring and not just fly right back up. Universe 10 works around this by recruiting two fighters with wings; since they can fly naturally, they aren't subject to that restriction.
* LovecraftLite:
** The mere existence of Beerus and Whis, beings so powerful that they can kill creatures as strong as Super Saiyan God Goku with a word, [[spoiler: [[CruelAndUnusualDeath given how Beerus executed Zamasu]]]]. There are also other Gods of Destruction and their attendants who are equal or stronger, and Zen'o being the ruler of all of them who can [[spoiler: destroy the entire multiverse]]. Thankfully, most of these ultra powerful entities are benign or at least neutral.
** The Future Trunks Saga shows what happened when just one of the gods goes out of control. [[spoiler: Zamasu, an Apprentice Supreme Kai from another universe, decides that all mortals are failure of the gods and must be wiped out. To that end, he steals the body of Goku, an extremely powerful mortal, murders him and his entire family while he's trapped in his original body. Then, he teams up with another version of himself from another timeline which is granted total immortality, kills off the other gods in the other 12 universes, and begins to slowly kill off the populations on different planets before arriving on Future Trunks' Earth, which was already decimated by the androids for almost twenty years. One of the Zamasus is an immortal, so he can't be killed; while the one who took Goku's body grows stronger every time he fights and gets hurt. Their actions also affected at least two different timelines]]. The saga ends with [[spoiler: the two Zamasus merging into [[Exactly WhatItSaysOnTheTin Merged Zamasu]], who was starting to mutate horribly because of their incompatible physiologies being merged together (which also made him mortal, but very hard to kill). After Trunks finally kills his body, Merged Zamasu's soul survived and became one with the at least one universe, killed everyone in it, and threatened to break through to other timelines. Goku manages to [[SummonBiggerFish call upon Future Zen'o]], who kills Zamasu by destroying the timeline, making this the darkest chapter in the entire series]].
** The Universal Survival Saga ups the Lovecraft aspects by having Zen'o decide to [[spoiler: eliminate the losing universe during the tournament]]. Meaning, trillions upon trillions of people will [[spoiler: be wiped from ''existence'' because they lost a tournament]].
* LovecraftianSuperpower: [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's]] mutant form, which basically turns his entire right half into a horribly deformed, melted mass. His final form is [[spoiler:a universe spanning EldritchAbomination capable of breaking down the barriers between timelines.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:M]]
* MacGuffin: The Super Dragon Balls, planet-sized Dragon Balls scattered across both the sixth and seventh universes. Unlike Namekian-made Dragon Balls, which have limitations based on the one that made them, these were forged by the Dragon God and are said to have no limit to what wishes they can grant. Champa is collecting them for some reason. It is the prize Beerus wins if his team is victorious during the tournament. In the Future Trunks Saga, [[spoiler: Zamasu uses the Super Dragon Balls to steal Goku's body and become Goku Black]]. They are also used to make [[spoiler: Future Zamasu an immortal]].
* MadeOfIron: Pilaf, despite having no apparent powers, regularly survives slapstick events that would be fatal to a [[RuleOfFunny less humorous]] character.
* MadEye: [[spoiler: As Merged Zamasu's fight with Vegito drags on, his right eye, which has already been mutated thanks to his incomplete immortality, starts to look more and more deranged.]]
* MadGod: [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's both components are Kai, a race known as the Gods of Creation in the Dragon Ball universe, and like them, he is dangerously AxCrazy. His EldritchAbomination final form however, plays this straight even more so as his power has now reached universe-ending levels, and he's lost his mind so badly by this stage that outside of a desire to kill everything, there's barely, if any semblance of a person in there anymore.]]
* MagicalAccessory: [[spoiler: Goku Black]] wears one of the Potara Earrings used by the Kais. He also has a Time Ring, a special ring used by the Kais to travel across time.
* MagicalDefibrillator:
** After Gohan is shot by Tagoma, Piccolo uses a blast of his energy to restart his heart so he can eat a Senzu.
** When Goku is killed by [[spoiler: Hit]], Piccolo attempts to restarts his heart, just like with Gohan in the Resurrection 'F' Saga. He's unsuccessful, but Goku manages to shoot an energy blast before dying, which hits him and gives him the jolt needed to get his heart working.
* MagicalSecurityCam: Godtube can apparently get footage of events that were never recorded and from impossible angles, as evidenced by Gowasu watching the tournament in the Champa arc.
* MagicCountdown: The Tournament of Power is set to last 48 minutes and kicks off in episode 97. Five episodes later, ten minutes have passed.
* MagmaMan: Magetta is a living geothermal power plant fueled by magma. He can also use this for offense, nearly burning Vegeta alive.
* ManBitesMan:
** When fighting Beerus as a Super Saiyan God, Goku bits his tail during their scuffle. Also, when Golden Frieza ties to strangles Goku with his tail, Goku responses by biting Frieza's tail, [[ContinuityNod again]].
** In the Universal Survival Saga, Goku actually bites ''Whis'' during training - which might be the closest we've ever seen to Whis experiencing ''pain''.
* ManChild:
** Goku, naturally, but some aspects are played up more. He acts more impatient and is prone to whining when things don't go his way. Although, this is mostly regarding wanting to train and being forced to farm for several months. He also treats his rivalry with Vegeta like a game, challenging him to see who can finish something the fastest and teasing about how he can beat Vegeta in a fight (which is a major upgrade to what it was in ''Z''). Some of his cruder mannerisms also returns, like him wanting to use the restroom while traveling with Whis and trying to pee over the side of the castle.
** Despite being far more mature and down to Earth than his father, Gohan still comes off as this since he loves dressing as the Great Saiyaman, striking poses, and giving grand speeches. Even Goten eventually finds this lame.
** Champa is extremely childish. He holds petty contests against Beerus like who can bring the best food and is quite temperamental when he doesn't get his way. When Goku wins against his fighter during the first round of the first Universal Tournament, he literally has a [[SoreLoser temper tantrum]], accusing Goku of cheating by hiding his strength and using an energy attack before rolling on the floor crying. All that being said, Champa hasn't shown to be a PsychopathicManchild like his brother Beerus. He doesn't destroy planets for petty reasons (the ones he did destroys were during his search for the Super Dragon Balls), has nowhere near as many {{Berserk Button}}s as Beerus, [[EveryoneHasStandards shows sympathy for others]] like him wanting to help Frost even if he didn't win at the tournament after hearing why he's fighting for him, and is somewhat polite to Goku and Vegeta when he first meets them, while Beerus treated them like dirt (and still does to an extent).
** Although Magetta comes off as a serious fighter who is nearly invincible to any type of attack, he's emotionally weak and loses his will to fight if insulted. Something Whis only mentions after he is defeated.
* ManipulativeBastard:
** Barry Kahn manipulates Cocoa into [[spoiler:framing Gohan for infidelity]].
** Bergamo is a very smooth talker for a wolf-man, able to quickly make Goku out to be the bad guy concerning the Tournament of Power and manages to get Zen'o's attention.
* MarilynManeuver: In the 89th episode, Chaiotsu uses one of his psychic powers to lift Yurin's skirt and make it flow, though she's not shown below the waist. She almost immediately covers up and tells others not to look.
* MartialArtsAndCrafts: In episode 70, the cast apply their incredible powers and abilities to a game of baseball. Special mention goes to Yamcha, who brings out his old Wolf Fang Fist and Spirit Ball techniques to improve his pitch.
* MaskOfSanity:
** Although Frieza was never [[AxCrazy completely sane to begin with]], his time in Hell destroyed what little sanity he did have. He tries to hide his SanitySlippage under his usual [[FauxAffablyEvil polite and suave act]], but the mask starts to fall off as he fights Goku and eventually loses to him again. [[VillainousBreakdown The mask completely shatters]] once Vegeta beats him out of his golden form, reducing him closed to tears.
** When we first meet Black, [[NoNonsenseNemesis he didn't talk and just killed everything in sight]]. When we finally see his form, he grins and tells Future Trunks how he was finally going to kill him, while still remaining [[FauxAffablyEvil calm and polite]]. It's in the second episode that we get hints that Black may not be completely sane, given how he laughs when Trunks punched him in the stomach. In Episode 51 when Black tells Trunks why he's killing humans, it's confirmed that he isn't [[AxCrazy really sane]], especially with all his [[MoodSwinger mood-swings]].
** [[spoiler: While Future Zamasu]] mostly acts calm and [[SmugSuper confident]], it's obvious by his {{Slasher Smile}}s and {{Motive Rant}}s that he has [[SanitySlippage long fallen off the deep end]].
** When [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] is born, he's quite calm and stoic despite having a [[SmugSuper super-sized ego]] that can fill the universe. As the battle goes on and the heroes begin to actually damaged him, it's revealed that he isn't just insane, he's mentally and emotionally unstable.
* MasterActor: Frost presents himself as a benevolent ruler who fights for the innocent, will only kill evildoers when no other choice is presented to him, refuses to use his true form out of fear of causing harm to others, is extremely polite and humble towards his opponent, and wants a clean match and, win or lose, nothing should be taking personally. According to the information presented at the tournament, he is fighting on Champa's team to get support for his charity work that helps children of war-torn planets. His story is so convincing that he gets Goku's own friends cheering for him and Champa feels bad for him since he has no real chance winning the entire tournament. [[spoiler: Then it all turns out to be a big lie. Frost is a planet broker who start wars so he can buy and sell planets, and uses his good reputation to hide his crimes and gain powerful allies like the Saiyans. He also uses poison whenever he's about to lose, which is how he defeated Goku and Piccolo. When all this comes to light, Frost goes from polite and humble, to [[SmugSnake smug]] and boastful about how he played everyone]].
* MasterApprenticeChain:
** Vegeta gains his own chain since he trained Future Trunks after he has been training under Whis for almost two years: Whis > Vegeta > Future Trunks
** Future Trunks also gains a chain that circles around somewhat in Piccolo > Future Gohan > Future Trunks when Future Trunks ends up learning the [[spoiler: Evil Containment Wave]] from watching a video recording of Piccolo doing the move. The apprentice learns from his master's master.
* MasterSwordsman: Future Trunks learned several new tricks with his sword, like being able to channel his ki thought it to release an energy slash and he can throw it like a boomerang.
* MauveShirt: The resistance fighters and the two children, Haru and Maki, from Future Trunks' timeline. They get a lot of screen time despite not being main characters since they show the suffering that Black inflicted on Trunks' world. It also makes it [[spoiler: hurt more when they are all brutally and unceremoniously killed by Merged Zamasu]].
* MesACrowd: After using his ki scythe to make a tear in reality, [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is able to summon endlessly copies of himself made of pinkish mist. They disperse with one hit, but reform almost instantly. Black ends the technique when he senses that [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] is in danger.
* MeaningfulEcho: When Goku loses his God form during the Battle of Gods, Beerus comments that Goku has exceeded his time limit. Goku says the same to Frieza when his Golden Frieza form tanks.
* MeaningfulName:
** Monaka name translates to "He of Great Ponta (He with the big nipples)."
** Hit is a rather serious warrior and martial artist. His name is actually a pun on "Hitman", as he's a legendary hit man. When his name was first translated into Roman characters, it was mistranslated as "Heat", making it seem like he had a connection with Frost. Needless to say, both notions were quickly corrected.
** "Zunô" means "Brain" in Japanese, appropriately.
* MeaninglessVillainVictory:
** Frieza's one true gain compared to the movie was that he was able to kill Piccolo, driving Gohan into a HeroicBSOD. By the end of the saga, Piccolo is revived and [[NiceJobFixingItVillain Gohan wants to train again so he can protect his family]].
** Although he isn't the major antagonist of the Champa Saga, [[spoiler: Frost counts for being a BitchInSheepsClothing who is just as evil as his U7's counterpart. He beats both Goku and Piccolo by poisoning them and would have gotten away with it if Jaco hadn't caught him. He is disqualified and his victory against Piccolo is overturned, but Vegeta wants a go at him and forces Piccolo to forfeit. After Vegeta knocks him out of the ring with one punch, Beerus discovers the poison wound on Goku's palm, allowing him to be reinstated into the tournament. So, although he may have gotten Piccolo out of the tournament indirectly, him cheating lets Goku back into the fight and saved for the final match so he didn't have to wear himself out fighting Magetta and Cabba]].
** After [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu fuses with the multiverse, he successfully wipes out all the mortals except for a named few]]. His 'Zero Mortal Plan' is complete and he now rules all as the supreme god. [[spoiler: It cost him his mind and he turned into an AlmightyIdiot, and his paradise is almost immediately destroyed by Future Zen'o, who wipes out the entire timeline and erases him from existence]].
* MechanicalLifeforms: Despite being robotic in nature, Magetta is a lifeform from an entire race of beings like him, though given he was chosen in particular it's likely his power is unique to him.
* MediumAwareness: In Episode 69, Vegeta quickly realizes to his horror that [[Manga/DrSlump Arale]] is from a Gag Manga series, and therefore the standard combat tactics of a Shounen Battle Manga series is useless against her.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: There is something clearly wrong with [[spoiler:Zamasu]] long before he became an AxCrazy KnightTemplar. He fits many of the characteristics of a high-functional [[TheSociopath sociopath]], but he also have an inability to cope with any [[BlackAndWhiteInsanity perceived evil]], is extremely sadistic despite his 'noble' intentions, and have an inability to even considered that he maybe wrong. What makes him stand out compared to other villains in the series is that [[spoiler:Zamasu]] wasn't born or created evil like King Piccolo, Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu. He's [[spoiler:supposed to be a [[GodIsGood god who overlooks the living world and give it guidance]]]]. So it's all the more jarring that he's so twisted, which is probably why [[spoiler:Gowasu]] doesn't know how to deal with him.
* MetronomicManMashing: Kale does this to Goku in Episode 100.
* MightyGlacier: Magetta can't fly, nor is he nimble, but he is incredibly heavy, extremely durable, and insanely strong. He easily takes hits from Vegeta.
* MilitariesAreUseless: In typical form for the ''Dragon Ball'' franchise as a whole, when Goku Black attacked the future timeline, humans banded together to form an armed resistance that accomplished basically nothing. Their greatest achievement was to keep Trunks alive long enough for his mother to finish refining time machine fuel so he could go back to the past in search of allies.
* TheMillstone: Buu manages to be completely useless in a crisis and has proven to only be a burden on his friends.
** He nearly destroyed Mr. Satan's reputation by intimidating him for food while the latter was talking to the press, making it clear that he wouldn't take no for an answer.
** He antagonised Beerus and very nearly got the Earth destroyed, all because he didn't want to share any pudding.
** He was sleeping throughout Freeza's invasion of Earth, during which [[spoiler: Piccolo died from a blast that Buu could have survived.]]
** During the first Universal Tournament he fell asleep again, which led to his instant disqualification.
** And he does it [[RunningGag again]] in the [[spoiler: Universal Survival Saga. He falls asleep before the tournament begins and won't wake up for two months]].
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: [[spoiler: Goku Black is an alternative version of Present Zamasu possessing Goku's body, and he's clearly taken on parts of Goku's personality like his [[BloodKnight love for battle]], the need to grow stronger, and [[NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction the desire to be challenge]]]].
* MinoredInAsskicking: Gohan is realizing his dream of becoming a scholar and doesn't actively train anymore. He's still one of the most powerful beings in the universe. By the end of the Resurrection 'F' Saga Gohan wants to train again, although he still have a demanding job, which is why he can't come to the first universal tournament with his family. In the Universal Survival Saga, not only is he part of the ten men team for U7, but he got his Ultimate form back and strives to surpass his father.
* MirrorMatch: Goku and Goku Black both relish the opportunity to fight each other. Perhaps they find it cathartic.
* MirrorUniverse:
** There are a total of 12 universes, which are paired up to equal 13.
** Universe 6, the twin of the Universe 7 where the protagonists live, is this in several specific ways. Its Earth was destroyed by Earthlings waging war with one another while Universe 7 Earth has narrowly avoided/been wished back from destruction by non-Earthlings. Universe 6 Saiyans are a benevolent warrior race that protect others and hunt evildoers, while the war-like Universe 7 Saiyans were wiped out when Frieza became fearful of their power. Frost, Frieza's equivalent and Emperor of the Sixth Universe, is implied to be a benevolent ruler as Piccolo detected no evil at all from him and he fights fair while being a respectful NiceGuy to his opponents, ([[spoiler: which, was all a lie on Frost's part]]). Champa leans ''slightly'' more towards the malevolent side than Beerus, but ironically is polite compared to him being rude, and is fat and shorter compared to his brother being tall and thin. Vados likewise is more cruel at times than Whis, and cares about eating healthy while Whis has a major SweetTooth. Ironically, Universe 6 being the GoodCounterpart to Universe 7 works against them in the tournament, as without the constant fighting against world-ending opponents, their fighters on the whole seem to be weaker than those of Universe 7, at least compared to [[OvershadowedByAwesome Goku and Vegeta]] (Super Saiyans don't exist there, for starters, at least until Vegeta teaches Cabba how to transform). Hit seems to be an exception, being exceptionally strong even by the standards of Universe 7.
* MiseryBuildsCharacter: Hit states that being on the run for a very long time made Frost stronger to the point that Hit actually had to get serious for a moment to dodge Frost's poisoned tail.
* MistakenIdentity: Goku and Vegeta initially mistakes Frost for Frieza. [[spoiler: [[EvilAllAlong They weren't too far off the mark]]]].
* MistakenForRomance: The Galactic King is mistaken by Bulma for being Jaco's girlfriend.
* ModestyTowel: Episode 43 has Goku suffering PowerIncontinence and when trying to use his [[FlashyTeleportation Instant Transmission]], he [[AccidentalPervert accidentally ends up in Bulma's bedroom]] just as she stepping out of the shower wearing only a towel, which infuriates both her and Vegeta.
* MomentOfWeakness: Even though Cocoa knows Gohan is HappilyMarried, she can't help but give him a ''genuine'' parting kiss as appreciation for how kind he was to her. [[spoiler: Videl does not hold it against her when she is shown the photos of them kissing by Barry.]]
* MonsterClown: One of the Gods of Destruction looks like an evil clown.
* MookPromotion: Sorbet goes from a relatively low position (Frieza had trouble recognizing him at first) to running Frieza's entire empire in his absence.
* MoodSwinger:
** Frieza after his resurrection. Since he isn't really [[SanitySlippage sane]] anymore, although he was never exactly [[AxCrazy sane]] to begin with, he's more prone to violence and {{Disproportionate Retribution}}s like shooting Tagoma's limbs and torturing him for four months for suggesting that he should leave the Saiyans alone, and tortures Gohan for reminding him of Goku's mercy towards him on Namek. Despite this, he still tries to act polite and calm.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] swings between stoic and dispassionate, and murderous, sadistic, and giddy. When fighting Future Trunks, he laughs when Super Saiyan Trunks hits him in the stomach and smiles as he plummets him, but then becomes stoic when he's ready to kill Trunks.
** A trait [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] inherited from [[spoiler: Goku Black]], although arguably worse as he seems to continuously cycle between his usual calm attitude to AxCrazy, the latter part especially after [[spoiler: Future Trunks and Vegeta toss one of his energy balls back at him. As the battle wears on and he still fails to kill his enemies, the entity starts losing more and more of his calmness until he's screaming all his lines]].
* MoodWhiplash:
** Episode 22 has several. There is Tagoma showing how powerful and cruel he is by ripping off Piccolo's arm. Barely a minute later, he gets his nuts crushed by Gotenks, who then tries to challenge Frieza before his fusion breaks. Frieza is amused until he realizes that Goku has another son and he recognizes Trunks as the one who killed him. Then, Tagoma gets his body stolen by Ginyu who goes through his usual antics, with Bulma becoming annoyed that he's back. The episode ends with Gohan being tortured and Piccolo taking an energy blast that leaves a giant hole in his chest, which is followed by the cheerful ending credits.
** Episode 23 have a minor case of this. The episodes starts with Piccolo being confirmed as dead and everyone's despair over it. We then get a hilarious scene of Beerus eating boxes worth of pizza, Goku and Vegeta eating his hidden stash of pizza while they're stuck in some kind of warp zone, and Beerus chasing them. Whis only checks his contact with Bulma since they need more pizza.
** Episode 25 continues in the same vein, with the escalating fight between Goku and Frieza interrupted by Whis and Beerus' antics as they visit Earth in order to eat ice cream.
** Episode 46 ends with the Commeson being defeated and Goku giving Vegeta grief over chewing on a pacifier. Made even funnier that Vegeta didn't know what a pacifier was until he saw Pan chewing on one. After the camera moves to the setting sun, the scene and music changes to a post-apocalypse world, and we see Future Trunks running and hiding from something before going into the usual ending song that is very upbeat, which is then immediately followed with the preview for the next episode, that has very dark and foreboding music instead of the standard happy music that plays during the previews.
** Episode 47 is filled with these to the point that you may need a neck brace. We see Future Trunks in a world that has all but been destroyed. He meets Future Bulma who gives him the fuel needed to power the time machine, only for [[spoiler: Goku Black]] to crash into the lab, blow it up, and [[spoiler: kill her]]. We then cut to the present with Goku and Piccolo having a race to see who can harvest the most vegetables from Goku's farm. We also get some humorous interactions with Goku, Vegeta, and Beerus. We then go back to the future where Trunks meets Future Mai and tell her that [[spoiler: Bulma is dead]] and the time machine only has enough fuel for a one-way trip. After the commercial break, we go back to the present on Beerus' planet where everyone eats instant ramen noodles. In the future, Mai can only find one canned food that isn't dog food and they're practically starving. They then leave for Capsule Corp to use the time machine only to be caught by [[spoiler: Goku Black]] who disarms Trunks and [[spoiler: nearly kills Mai]]. [[spoiler: Goku Black]] speaks for the first time in the entire episode, saying today was the day Trunks takes his last breath. Cue happy ending credits.
** Episode 50 brings in a new ending theme, which is even more upbeat and cheerful than the last two, during the Future Trunks Saga which is the darkest the show has had so far.
** The finale of the Future Trunks Saga have the heroes congratulating Trunks for [[spoiler: killing Merged Zamasu using the power of all the survivors on Earth]]. Not even five minutes later, [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu returns without a body, spreads across the Earth and then the multiverse to become one with it, and processes to kill everyone in it. Only Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Future Mai, Bulma, and the Supreme Kais survive. Goku is forced to summon Future Zen'o in what is a somewhat humorous scene, only for Zen'o to decide to waste the ''entire timeline'' to kill Merged Zamasu. The heroes can only run for their lives back to the past]].
** As a whole, the Future Trunks Saga to the Champa Saga. The former is a lighthearted story with no real consequences to the heroes. If they lose, then Earth would just be moved to U6. Then [[KnightOfCerebus Black]] makes his appearance in Episode 47 and shifts the entire tone of the show since the heroes are dealing with a sadistic, multi-universal mass-murderer. Once the story arc is finished, we get nearly two months worth of {{Breather Episode}}s, most humorous in tone.
** In relation, the first half of the Future Trunks Saga to the second half. Once Future Trunks arrives in the past and Black is sent back through the time portal, the tone of the show becomes lighthearted with Trunks seeing the changes to the past timeline and everyone focusing on who Black is and his connection to Zamasu. As soon as the second act starts, things become far darker and desperate.
** Episode 71 starts with Goku [[spoiler: dropping dead in the middle of a rocky field. Gohan, Goten, and Piccolo surrounds him, Gohan confirms his death, while Goten breaks down into tears and hugs his father's lifeless body. We even get a shot of [[DiesWideOpen Goku's eyes wide open]], staring into nothingness]]. Then we get the cheerful title card music.
** Episode 98 has a big one. Goku and Vegeta are fighting the last three fighters of universe 9 still in the tournament. At the climax of the battle, the epic music swells during the brief, but lopsided BeamOWar and then the universe 9 fighters are knocked off. Then, inside of a minute, reality sets in and the mood turns dark as universe 9 along with everyone in it, except for Mojito, are instantly annihilated. Even In-Universe, as Goku and Vegeta have just won the battle and feeling quite good about themselves, suddenly become aghast as what just happened. In fact, the entire tournament comes to a halt as everyone there realizes just how dire the situation really is.
* [[InUniverse Moral Event Horizon]]:
** For Beerus, [[spoiler: Zamasu crosses it the moment he tried to murder Gowasu to take control of the Time Rings. Before that moment, Beerus was willing to give Zamasu the benefit of the doubt and not act until Zamasu killed Gowasu in cold blood and Whis rewind time to prevent the murder. Zamasu showing pride that his future counterpart has been killing humans was just icing and Beerus promptly executes him]].
** For Goku, [[spoiler: Goku Black went past the line when he revealed that he murdered Chi-Chi and Goten after taking his body and killing him with it in front of his family. To note, this is one of the few times, especially as an adult, that we see Goku trying to actively kill someone]].
** A minor example, but Goku calls a space poacher unsavable after he makes a rant about why he steals and sell animals on the black market.
* MoralMyopia: [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu]] considers Future Trunks a sinner due to his history of time travel which is forbidden by the gods. They declare that since Trunks' actions [[spoiler: made Black's existence possible to begin with, he was essentially responsible for killing all the people on Earth. This is, of course, coming from people who murdered all the other gods in the future multiverse, which is also likely forbidden, with Black specifically killing his own master to advance his goals. They also killed mortals, something that only the Gods of Destruction are allowed to do, while they are Supreme Kais]]. [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] invokes this in regards to [[spoiler: Goku and Vegeta fusing into Vegito]], stating that "what becomes good when done by gods becomes evil when done by mortals... and becomes sin."
* MoralSociopathy:
** Zamasu truly and honestly believes that mortals are foolish and dangerous creatures that can challenge the gods and should be destroyed for the good of the universe. [[spoiler: When he's ready to kill Gowasu for his earrings, he fully admits that his actions are evil, but [[NecessarilyEvil that evil will lead to a greater good]] and he's doing justice by the gods]].
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] truly believes that he's doing right by the universe by wiping out all the mortals since they're the one mistake of the gods. While wiping out the humans on Earth, he shows real remorse for the damage he has done to the planet. He also views [[spoiler: killing all the gods in the future timeline as a [[NecessarilyEvil necessary evil]] since they would never understand his ideals and would try to stop him]].
* MoralityPet: After meeting and fighting Goku, Beerus becomes an overall better person. He is more patient and less willing to destroy things that annoys him. He even shows actual care for the mortals he befriends like stopping Zamasu when he attacked Goku, helping Future Trunks in his owe begrudging way, and shows real distress that his efforts [[spoiler: didn't save Trunks' timeline]] despite him pretending it didn't. That said, he isn't above [[KickTheMoralityPet reminding Goku of his place]] like him mocking Goku for him being unable to stop Champa from [[spoiler: murdering his own team when they lost the tournament]] and threatening to kill him when Goku doesn't do what he wants.
* MorphicResonance: [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu has Zamasu' green skin but many of Goku's facial features. He also has Zamasu's hair color in the same style as Goku Black's Super Saiyan Rose form, with a large lock of it over his face like Zamasu's]].
* MotivationalLie:
** [[spoiler: Monaka's true purpose. Beerus builds him up as the most powerful being in the universe next to him and Whis to motive Goku and Vegeta into becoming stronger and winning the tournament for him]].
** Chichi lies about burning through all of the 100 million zeni given by Mr. Satan, in order to get Goku to return to his job. The truth comes out after Goku accidentally demolishes their house and she uses the money to rebuild it.
** When Android 18 is reluctant to enter the Tournament of Power, Goku makes up a ten-million Zeni prize to entice her. He uses the same lie for #17, Tenshinhan and Master Roshi, though #17 isn't interested in the money. As with the previous examples, this comes out and causes problems: once all the tournament fighters are assembled, the true nature of the Tournament is revealed, causing Krillin and #18 to drop out until Bulma irritably offers to provide the money.
* MotiveDecay:
** This is what really screwed over Sorbet's plans to restore the trade empire. He believed by reviving Frieza, the former Empire of Evil would work to reclaim his territory since ruling the universe was Frieza's goal in life. However, Frieza no longer cares about his empire. He just want revenges on Goku and Future Trunks for humiliating and killing him.
** There are subtle signs of this with [[spoiler: Goku Black]]. After Goku and the others escape to the past, instead of hunting down the remaining humans [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is content to sit back at his cottage with [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] and patiently wait for them to return. He did this ''again'' when Goku and Vegeta escaped. He only starts trying to kill the humans when they directly attack him. This is justified in that [[spoiler: Goku Black]] needs to fight Goku to get stronger, which is part of the Zero Mortals Plan. At the same time, he also had [[spoiler: Goku's battle lust and put having a good fight over finishing his mission on Earth since he could have easily killed the remaining Earthlings while he waited]].
* MotiveRant:
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] spends most of his fight with Future Trunks ranting about how mortals are evil and needs to be wiped out, and how the Saiyans are the worst type of mortal since they have a lot a power, but no spiritual guidance. It gets to the point that this is practically a character quirk of [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] and he's fully aware of it, saying how he likes hearing himself talk.
** Unlike [[spoiler: Future Zamasu, Goku Black]] rarely if ever rants about his motives. However, he tears Future Trunks a new one after he calls him a murderer, saying it's Trunks' fault that the future Earth was destroyed since he saves Goku from the heart virus. If he had let Goku die like history dictated, [[spoiler: he would have never been interested in taking Goku's body. He also cites this as the reason why he even came to Future Trunks' time, since Trunks is a sinner who messed up time]].
** [[spoiler: [[AGodAmI If Merged Zamasu isn't talking about how great he is]]]], he's ranting about why mortals need to die and create his 'perfect' world. He puts even Future Zamasu to shame.
* MoveInTheFrozenTime: the effects of Hit's Time Freeze can be countered by someone sufficiently stronger than him (such as a powered-up Goku or Jiren). This leads to the infamous comment that Jiren is "stronger than time."
* MrExposition:
** Shenron tells the cast how to create a Super Saiyan God.
** Old Kai explains how Goku and Beerus' fight will eventually destroy the universe if they don't stop.
** Sorbet give details about the state of Frieza's empire after his death and how desperate their situation is.
** It is Whis who explains to Goku and Vegeta about the 12 Universes, while Champa provides information on what the Super Dragon Balls are.
** The Galactic King is the one who explains how Hit can seemingly disappear without his movements being detected by anyone. [[spoiler: Hit is a TimeMaster who can freeze time for everyone but himself for about 0.1 seconds. Although it doesn't seems like much time, for someone with SuperSpeed this gives them a major advantage]].
** It is Gowasu who explains to Zamasu and the viewers how the Time Rings work, and why there were four green Time Rings with only one silver one.
* MuggingTheMonster:
** Buu picks a fight with Beerus under the logic that he's the strongest. Buu gets a quick education on the error he's made.
** Frieza belittled and demeaned Vegeta, not knowing that Vegeta not only reached Super Saiyan years ago, but he can go to the same level as Goku. Because he missed this information he ends up fighting the far less merciful Vegeta after he exhausted all his power fighting Goku.
** Some thugs try to steal Goku's van when he's delivering his crops to the market. They quickly learn they picked the wrong guy to mug when their machine guns do nothing to Goku.
* {{Multiverse}}: Anyone who's watched the ''Battle of the Gods'' movie should already be familiar with this fact, but the ''Super'' goes into this in more detail with Whis explaining that there are ''twelve'' parallel universes and a thirteenth one which holds all the others. On top of this, these universes are ''paired'' as well, which depend on whether their numerical designations add up to 13. Universe 7, which the series takes place in, is the "twin" of Universe 6 (which Champa and Vados oversee) because 6+7 = 13. [[spoiler: There used to be 18, but [[TopGod Zen'o]] wiped out 6 of them]].
* MultiversalConqueror: [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu's ambitions aren't limited to ''one'' universe. They desire a ''multiverse'' free of mortals. For this reason, they slaughtered all the other gods so no one could oppose them]]. This gets them called out as hypocrites by Vegeta and Gowasu since [[spoiler: they're gods murdering gods, yet they still claim to be good and promoting justice]].
* MundaneLuxury:
** Vegeta convinces Whis to train him by bribing him with instant ramen, which Whis finds delightful for its taste and simplicity. This become a BrickJoke since Champa also loves the instant ramen, which is why he now wants Earth.
** Vegeta all but drools as he eats Chi-Chi's cooking. After spending three years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, it is the first decent meal he has.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: Bulma protects the Earth from Beerus in her own way. Namely, by bribing Whis with food so that he can convince Beerus not to destroy Earth. [[NiceJobBreakingItHero This backfires slightly since Champa now wants the destroyed Earth in his universe to be restored so he can eat all their food]].
* MundaneSolution:
** When Trunks wants to show Goten the first prize for Bulma's birthday bingo, they can't get near it because it's surrounded by a laser security system. Trunks gets around this by pulling the plug.
** Botamo's ability makes him immune to all of Goku's attacks, even the Kamehameha. Goku gets around his inability to hurt him by pushing him over, dragging him towards the end of the ring, and then flipping Botamo into a ring-out, shocking everyone.
* MundaneUtility:
** Krillin and Android 18 decide to skip the traffic and fly to Bulma's party, much to the shock of the other commuters. All of their friends didn't even bother trying to drive. On the topic of Krillin, he uses his SupernaturalMartialArts during his day job as a cop.
** The Dragon Balls, mystical artifacts that can grant almost any wish, have been reduced to a bingo prize: sure, it's a bingo prize for a bingo set up by the world's richest woman and the second price is a full-sized castle, but still.
* MustMakeAmends: Gowasu goes into the future to stop [[spoiler: Future Zamasu and Goku Black's]] rampage since he was the one who chose Zamasu as his successor.
* {{Mutant}}: In the Dragon World, some beings who are born extraordinarily powerful and talented are classified as mutants. For example, both Ginyu and Frieza are mutants among their species, which is why they are so powerful.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe:
** The Future Trunks Saga has two versions of Trunks hanging out on the Briefs' compound. Younger Trunks is envious of his future self, especially since young Mai is clearly sweet on him. Future Trunks doesn't return the feeling because he's mainly glad to see her, but he does mention that he and Future Mai were close, which definitely doesn't help matters.
** In Future Trunks' timeline, [[spoiler: Future Zamasu is allied with Goku Black, who turns out to be Zamasu from the present timeline]].
** [[spoiler: After completely decimating the multiverse to destroy Merged Zamasu once and for all, Future Zen'o is left all alone in a void. Goku takes him to the Present Zen'o and they become friends]].
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** Zamasu briefly gives this expression after he realizes that he killed a Babarian in cold blood. When Gowasu questions why he did it, he's unable to answer or look at his master's face. [[IgnoredEpiphany He quickly gets over it and goes back to hating mortals]].
** Gowasu ''immense'' guilt over [[spoiler:choosing [[TheSociopath Zamasu]] as his apprentice]] due to how horribly that turned out.
* MyGreatestFailure: Zamasu becomes this to Gowasu since he was the one who chose Zamasu as his successor, despite the obvious signs that Zamasu wasn't entirely mentally stable. Gowasu even calls the Time Ring that Beerus created when he [[spoiler: killed Present Zamasu]] his sin.
* MySecretPregnancy: No one knew Videl was pregnant until she tells Beerus.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch:
** As a whole, the Kais are AlwaysLawfulGood and serve as benevolent Gods of Creation. [[spoiler: Zamasu, however, looks down on mortals, views them as AlwaysChaoticEvil, and ultimately embarks on a genocidal rampage against them]].
** [[spoiler: Goku Black is a Supreme Kai that has grown tired of the [[TheGodsMustBeLazy gods doing nothing]] while the mortals misuses the knowledge giving to them and keep killing themselves. So, he decides to personally wipe out the mortals on the gods' behalf…while he murders all the other gods in the multiverse since he knows that they would stop him. So, [[ItsAllAboutMe he basically murdering mortals on his own behalf]]]].
* MysteriousPast:
** Nothing is really known about Beerus and Champa except they're twins. It is heavily hinted by statements from Whis, Vados, and Zen'o that neither of them were born gods, but appointed to that position. Their assistants, Whis and Vados, are equally mysterious since they are both [[spoiler: more powerful than their respective gods]], are {{Reality Warper}}s on par with Buu, and seem to have god energy, yet neither of them are classified as gods. When Vegeta directly asks what Whis is, he is given a NonAnswer. According to U7's Supreme Kai, Whis and Vados are a type of angel that only functions as long as the Gods of Destruction are alive.
** [[GreaterScopeVillain Despite being one of the major villains who most directly impacted the universe and the lives of several main characters]], there is little known about Frieza. We don't even know the name of his species. From the little supplemental materials we learn that Frieza and his family are mutants who are born ungodly strong among their race and are also unnaturally cruel. And that's about it. His relationship with the Saiyans isn't even clearly define.
** The Saiyans themselves. Going just by the canon of the manga, we know nothing about them outside they worked for Frieza, plunder planets, used to have good people among them who banded together to create a Super Saiyan God (which may or may not have happened before they worked for Frieza), and got wiped out by their boss.
*** Even using information from the anime opens more questions than answers. What was the Saiyans' original homeworld (which may or may not been destroyed by the original Super Saiyan)? Was Planet Vegeta always their home? ''GT'', which is said to be part of the official canon as a side-story (taking place directly after the original manga's DistantFinale), explicitly states that the Saiyans invaded Planet Plant from space. In ''Super'', the Saiyans originally came from Planet Sadal, which was destroyed by infighting.
** Zen'o. What is he? Where did he come from? Why is he so powerful? Is he a born god like the Kais? Is the title 'Zen'o' pass on like the Gods of Destruction?

[[folder: N]]
* {{Narcissist}}:
** [[spoiler: A common character trait of all forms of Zamasus]]. Goku Black [[spoiler: (who is a version of Present Zamasu)]] is the least narcissist, but after he transforms into a [[spoiler: Super Saiyan Rose]], he goes into a long monolog about how beautiful he's become. [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] goes on long {{Motive Rant}}s about how much mortals suck and how he's justice, not caring if anyone is even listening to him, and [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] talks about how beautiful the gods are even as he deforms.
** Barry Kahn displays traits of genuine narcissism, being an extremely self-absorbed man as his VanityProject lays out quite well and essentially goes into a narcissistic rage when [[spoiler: Videl snubs him the first and second time.]]
* NatureHero:
** At his heart, this is what Goku is. He prefers to live in isolation in the mountains with his family and train. He is also protective of animals and treats them like people. When poachers from space takes a bunch of animals to sell on the black market and even tries to bribe #17 and him, Goku coldly says that there is no saving him and walks over to smash the guy.
** What #17 becomes as a park ranger. He lives by himself on a small island, protecting it fiercely from poachers even if they come from space. While he tries not to kill anyone, he isn't afraid to spill blood or sacrifice himself.
* NearVillainVictory: Despite being trounced by Goku and Vegeta, Frieza succeeds in destroying Earth, killing everyone except those near Whis and Beerus. He would have won if it wasn't for Whis rewinding time.
* NecessaryDrawback:
** Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon. When fully charged, it can defeat or kill a foe who is many times stronger than Piccolo. When he first used it, he managed to kill Raditz who was three times stronger than him. However, it took five minutes to fully charge and left Piccolo wide open to being attacked. It is not until Piccolo's battle with Frost that he attempts to gamble everything on a fully charged Special Beam Cannon again. Unlike with Raditz, Piccolo shows off against Frost that he has learned to dodge, block, and be capable of using his multiform and antenna beams as a distraction while charging the beam, although the beam still takes quite a bit of time to fully charge. [[spoiler: While Piccolo ultimately ends up losing the match due to Frost's cheating]], the Special Beam Cannon he unleashes is so powerful that it pierces Vados' barrier. Champa couldn't do it when he was testing it and Goku didn't put a dent in it when he randomly hit it during his fight.
** Much like Special Beam Cannon, there's Vegeta's Final Flash. When fully charged, it's an out-and-out WaveMotionGun that's severely powerful and can potentially hurt/kill those who are stronger than the user, unless they are ''extremely'' durable (such as Magetta). This move ''can'' be used instantly without the charge-up, since not all fights would allow the time required... but in each instance of such, both in ''Z'' and ''Super'', this makes the move considerably weaker than it would otherwise be.
** [[spoiler: The Kaioken in combination with Super Saiyan Blue. When Goku uses this, he can make himself up to ten times stronger and perhaps even more. It is also an incomplete technique with only a 10% success rate since Goku is still improving it. He can also only maintain it for a few minutes (which is still longer than original Kaioken) and once it breaks, [[HeroicRROD Goku can barely move]]. On top of that, it can make Goku sick days afterwards with Delayed Onset Ki Syndrome, a sickness where Goku loses control of his energy so much that he can't even fly properly. Using the Kaioken also risks permanently crippling him, so Goku can't use this combination any time he wants]].
* NecessarilyEvil:
** [[spoiler: How Zamasu justifies his attempted murder of Gowasu. From his point-of-view, it's an evil act that is necessary to create a greater justice]].
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is not happy about how much damage he does to the Earth to kill all the humans, expressing sorrow as he overlooks the destroyed West City. Nonetheless, he continues his attack on humanity so he can create a beautiful paradise. He's also not entirely pleased that he [[spoiler: murdered all the gods in the future timeline]], but says it had to be done since the gods would've tried to stop him since they don't understand his ideals. He also views [[spoiler: taking Goku's body as this since Goku is the symbol of everything that is wrong with mortals. He takes Goku as his vessel to not only gain Goku's power, but to have an eternal reminder of the gods' failure]].
* NegatedMomentOfAwesome:
** After being trapped in a bear hug by Shisami, Gohan gives a speech about how he hates people like Shisami and how he has a little girl that he wants to grow up in a peaceful world. He then powers up, ready to take Shisami down….then he is shot through the chest by Togama.
** The Frost vs. Piccolo fight. Piccolo is completely outmatched against Frost whose final form is stronger than Goku's base form, which is enhanced with god power. So, Piccolo has to bet everything on a fully charged Special Beam Cannon, something he hasn't done since the Raditz's fight. While he charges, he dodges Frost and uses his multiform to stay ahead. He then manages to grab Frost by stretching his arm around him, freezing him in place. He's ready to fire, which would take Frost out and prove that skill and strategy can defeat a superior opponent, [[spoiler: only for Frost to poison Piccolo, leaving him open and causing his Special Beam Cannon to miss. He is then shortly defeated]]. On the bright side, we did at least see how powerful that Special Beam Cannon was. It ''pierced'' through Vados' barrier. Champa couldn't break it when he tested it.
** Goku asks that the no-killing rule be lifted so he can fight Hit at his very best. Instead of getting an all-out match against the strongest mortals in both universes, Beerus and Champa squabble about the rule change. Goku becomes disillusion and [[spoiler: throws his match, saying that he will fight Hit again someday]].
** After Toppo withstands a point-blank Warp Kamehameha, he gets serious and powers up. Goku does the same, [[spoiler: combining his Super Saiyan Blue form with the Kaioken]], and saying how he was going to break his limit. Just as they're both charging up, the Grand Priest stops the match, telling them to save it for the actual tournament. Both Zen'os are just as upset as the audience.
* NervesOfSteel:
** Out of the entire cast, Goku is the only one not terrified of Beerus and is [[CasualDangerDialogue quite cheerful even when Beerus is about to blow up the planet]], although, during their first fight Goku was left shaking when Beerus glared at him. At the same time, that same glare completely paralyzed Vegeta. Later, when Future Trunks and he are trapped between [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu]], he calmly tells Trunks that they [[ThisIsGonnaSuck really stand no chance, and the best they can hope for is to stay alive long enough to come up with a plan]]. In the Universal Survival Saga, when Beerus actually threatened to 'Destroy' him, using the same technique he used against [[spoiler: Present Zamasu]], Goku glares at Beerus without any fear. Keep in mind, Goku saw this technique first-hand dissolved a person, [[CruelAndUnusualDeath slowly]].
** A standout trait of [[spoiler: Goku Black]]. Nothing seems to unnerve him, not even seeing [[TheDreaded Beerus]] despite knowing who he is. Seeing Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta gets [[DullSurprise almost no reaction]] out of him other than amusement, and he is barely fazed when Vegeta beats him up and gives him TheReasonYouSuckSpeech.
** To Zamasu's credit, [[spoiler: when Beerus is ready to execute him for his attempted murder of Gowasu, he gives the God of Destruction a [[DefiantToTheEnd defiant]] DeathGlare]]. Before then, he kept a calm and pleasant demeanor when confronted with Whis, Beerus, Goku, and U7's Supreme Kai, while planning [[spoiler: the murder]].
* NeverMyFault:
** Frieza blames Goku for him ending up in Earth's Hell. Goku just responds that Frieza chose to come to Earth looking for revenge, and that Trunks was the one who actually killed him in any case. Never mind that Frieza ended up in Hell to begin with because he's an evil bastard, something he takes great pride in. He also blames Goku for ''everything'' that happened on Namek, like him failing to gain immortality. This is ignoring that he failed to get his wish because he didn't know the password for the Dragon Balls, he couldn't speak Namekian, ''and'' [[GenocideBackfire he killed almost everyone he could have told him those things]]. Even without Goku, Frieza would have never gotten his wish. There is also the underlying fact that Vegeta did overall more damaged to Frieza since he's the one who killed all his men.
** Bulma blames Jaco for her wasting two of her questions with Zuno and him wasting his question by asking about her breast size. Jaco justifiably calls her out on this.
** Beerus puts fault on everyone from the Supreme Kai to Goku for U7's low mortal ranking. The Supreme Kai [[{{Hypocrite}} calls him out for sleeping all the time instead of doing his job and Goku points out that Beerus didn't help the ranking by destroyed planet randomly]]. Later, he gets on Goku and the others for being one member short for the Tournament of Power, saying that they're at fault since they only recruited from one planet. This is despite Beerus doing ''nothing'' to help and spent his entire time stress eating. Even the Supreme Kai went out looking for other fighters while Goku spent his entire time recruiting people instead of training.
* NeverForgottenSkill: After not using the [[spoiler: Kaioken]] for almost two decades in-universe, Goku reveals that he can [[spoiler: combine his previous power-up technique with Super Saiyan Blue and can take it up to Kaioken X10]].
* NeverTrustATrailer: ''Super'' has become infamous for its misleading previews, some that outright lies to the viewer:
** There were plenty of fans mislead as early as the Battle of Gods Saga where some thought Vegeta was likely going to ascend to Super Saiyan 3 during the moment where Beerus slapped Bulma. Unfortunately, as much as that would have been awesome, Vegeta ended up using the same powered-up version of Super Saiyan 2 as he did in the movie.
** The episode previews during the first multiverse tournament ignore large portions of the plot in order to keep certain big twists secret. For instance, the preview for Episode 33 suggests that the episode consists mainly of Goku's fight against Botamo, when in fact this is fairly short and most of the episode is Goku vs. Frost. The next preview focuses on Piccolo vs. Frost in the same way, so that the reveal about Frost that takes most of the episode is hidden. The preview for Episode 35 makes it seems Vegeta will be fighting Frost for most the episode, but Frost goes down in one hit and the big battle is against Magetta. The conclusion of the tournament looks like Goku and Hit going all out with Goku losing when in reality [[spoiler: Goku throws his match and Hit never fights at his full power]].
** The preview for Episode 48 makes it look like Goku and Vegeta have learned about Black via Trunks and were making plans to go to the future, but in reality, Trunks wakes up and immediately tries to attack Goku, to which the episode ends. The following preview is sort of the same thing as the last preview.
** The next episode's preview makes it look as though Future Trunks PTSD attack on Goku for confusing him with Black was going to be an all episode thing. Nope, Bulma slaps him out of it during the first couple of minutes and the rest of the episode ends up being about the dangers of time travel and explaining when Black arrived on the future Earth. The fight they had in the preview was just friendly sparring so Goku can see how he compares to Black.
** Episode 50's NEP makes it appears that most of the episode was Black fighting Goku with Goku coming out the loser. What actually happened was that the fight took up only half an episode, it ended abruptly, and Goku came out ahead since [[WorfHadTheFlu Black wasn't fighting at his best]].
** Episode 56's preview was the reveal that Black [[spoiler: had a Super Saiyan form, Super Saiyan Rose]]. However, the big twist of the episodes was [[spoiler: that Black wasn't working alone]].
** The NEP for Episode 58 makes it appear that Zamasu used the Super Dragon Balls and return to Gowasu to kill him. In actuality, what we are seeing is Whis speculating on how [[spoiler: Zamasu gained immortality, created Goku Black, and how he was likely planning to kill Gowasu for his Time Ring]].
** The preview for Episode 59 makes it look like Zamasu [[spoiler:murders Gowasu by poisoning his tea,]] and Goku fights Zamasu. Nope, [[spoiler:Zamasu attempts to murder Gowasu, but it's foiled thanks to Whis' time rewind intervening]] and the group exposes him. As for the fight, [[spoiler:Beerus ends before it can even start by instantly vaporizes Zamasu on the spot]].
** Similarly, the preview for Episode 66 showcases a lot of [[spoiler:Vegito's fight against Merged Zamasu]], suggesting he'd be the one to end things. While the fight does go on awhile, enough to do major damage to [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]], [[spoiler:Vegito]] isn't the one who deals the game-ending blow. It's [[spoiler:Future Trunks]].
** The next episode preview for 67 makes it seems like a standard wrap up episode with everything finally settling down after [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's]] defeat. Turns out, [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu is NotQuiteDead, he fuses with the multiverse, and kills everyone in it except the main characters. Future Zen'o is summoned and he destroys the entire timeline to stop Merged Zamasu]].
** In this case, Never Trust the Promotional Art. For months, we knew that the ten member team for Universe 7 would be Goku, Vegeta, Gohan Androids 17 and 18, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, Roshi, and Buu. This was hammered even further in the intro of Limit Break X Survivor and the credits of Boogie Back. Then in Episode 92 we find out that [[spoiler: Buu fall asleep, [[RunningGag yet again]], and can't be part of the tournament anymore. His replacement? ''Frieza'' of all people]].
** Episode 99 (a Krillin-based episode) and 100 (an episode involving Kale and Caulifla) of Dragon Ball Super mentioned about Krillin "getting unexpectedly disqualified" from the tournament, leading many fans to believe that Krillin accidentally killed somebody in the Tournament of Power. However, "disqualified" in this sense just simply meant taken out, and [[spoiler:it was a sneak attack from Frost after Krillin was caught off guard.]] A Universe 4 fighter [[spoiler:did try to fake death to trick Android 18 at one point though]].
** The opening makes it seem like Ribrianne would be a chief rival or at least a major battle for Vegeta. However, that's not really the case for the actual Tournament of Power. They fight evenly briefly (it's the same footage used in the opening, in fact, plus a rolling attack), but he ends up abandoning the fight and her main rival seems to be Android 17 for not only interrupting their transformation sequence, but also by taking out two of her comrades.
** Episode 118's preview summary mentions about "Frieza getting mad at Goku for taking out a paralyzed Rabanra and Co with a Kamehameha." However, nothing like that happened at all in the episode (except for the Kamehameha). [[spoiler:Goku, Android 18, and Android 17 were paralyzed from the "black hole" that the three made while under their "Love" modes, and Frieza just made a comment on how he was surprised Goku didn't achieve Ultra Instinct again, but still felt like Goku was needed for his agenda]].
** The preview for episode 119 made it seem like the whole Universe 7 fighters struggle against the last three Universe 4 members including Vegeta who almost got knocked out by the invisible fighters. Come the episode itself, they were all treated as just another fighter with gimmicks and were pretty much thrown out of the arena once they were found. Additionally while the tone from previous episodes implies that once they appear, Universe 7 would be in danger, once they made their move, they were pretty much treated as slapstick and is never taken seriously by the narratives.
** The previews for Episode 131 did this [[spoiler:to play with fans with making Frieza's appearance predictable, knowing that he wasn't explicitly knocked out. Come the end of 130, he did come back to play, but all promotional material hid one key character: [[NotQuiteDead Android 17]]!]].
* NewBabyEpisode:
** Episode 17 has the birth of Pan as one of its subplots. Gohan and Mr. Satan play with Pan for a bit before Chi-chi comes in demanding them to raise her into being a gentle girl.
** One of the big things keeping Vegeta from joining the tournament of power is that he doesn't want to be absent for when Bulma gives birth to their second child. In episode 83, after hearing the reason, Whis provides a solution by using his powers to help Bulma give birth to the baby sooner, thus allowing Vegeta to join the team. Vegeta expresses interest in giving her a traditional Saiyan name of Eschalot only for Bulma to reveal that she already had the name Bulla registered for her.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands:
** Vegeta gains god energy just by training with Whis, and not going through the Super Saiyan God Ritual like Goku. It's explained that he reached this level on his own through hard work without using the ritual as a shortcut, but the particulars of how aren't explained.
** During the Champa Saga, Goku reveals that he can [[spoiler: combine Super Saiyan Blue with the Kaioken]]. This wasn't hinted or foreshadowed until the Hit fight [[note]]Unless you count the Otherworld filler from Z, where Goku combined Kaioken with his SSJ form, with no taxing of his body at all because he's dead.[[/note]] and caught ''everyone'' off-guard, including Vegeta who trained with Goku for three years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. This has some justification since [[spoiler: Goku explicitly couldn't combine a normal Super Saiyan with the Kaioken in a living body because the two power-ups are too stressful on the body, and Super Saiyan Blue works because it's a peaceful transformation with great energy control]].
** After being overwhelmed by Vegeta after he trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for six months, [[spoiler: Goku Black]] reaches the conclusion that Saiyans get their power from anger. So he taps into his own [[PowerOfHate anger towards the mortals]] to create a SinisterScythe from his energy sword that can cut through dimensions and somehow create endless clones as long as he's near the rift. Not even [[spoiler: Goku Black]] knows how he pulled this off.
** He gets three in the anime. The first one being a new form that was later named Super Saiyan Rage - a form that sorta looks like Super Saiyan 2 with a blue aura on the inside like Super Saiyan Blue. The form's particulars were unexplained until considerably later, where it was revealed that it's a unique rage boost to Trunk's Super Saiyan 2 form. The second, Trunks learns [[spoiler: the Evil Containment Wave]] [[InstantExpert within minutes of watching a video of Piccolo doing it]]. Although characters learning techniques fast isn't new in the series, this stands out since Trunks has never shown such an advance copy ability before - Goku learns it instantly, but he's well-known for being an InstantExpert, and despite this it still takes him half a day to learn to properly aim [[spoiler: the Evil Containment Wave]]. Then again, Trunks did have Mai helping aim the jar ''and'' a rage boost, which probably helped. At the end of the saga he [[spoiler: unconsciously summons a Spirit Bomb and merges it with his sword to create a type of Spirit Sword to slice Fusion Zamasu in half]]. [[note]]It is questionable if Trunks actually created the Spirit Bomb since he was shocked when he saw it, and it seemed like the people of Earth unconsciously gave Trunks his energy when they felt him fight Fusion Zamasu.[[/note]]
* NewRulesAsThePlotDemands: Within the Tournament of Power. Since the fighters ended up doing things that the rules simply didn't anticipate, they need an on the fly interpretation. Mostly because it's main purpose is to keep Zen'O entertained, he usually lets them slide [[RuleOfCool since they were awesome]].
** #17 managed to propel himself onto the "sun" illuminating the ring. When Champa demanded to know if that was allowed since it was technically out of bounds, Zen'O let it go.
** When Roshi used a small bottle so he could properly use the Evil Containment Wave, Quitella called foul for using an outside item, while Beerus said it was fair game since it was an accessory, prompting an argument that nearly became physical. Zen'O cleared the matter swiftly by ruling that it was allowed since "it was neat."
* NewWeaponTargetRange: In a relatively rare non-VideoGame example of the trope, the very first thing stopping Frieza's ressurection for the Tournament of Power is a horde of {{mooks}} - perfect for Frieza to showcase his ability to curve his Death Beams, and to prove his GoldenSuperMode is no longer burdened by stamina drain.
* NextTierPowerUp:
** PlayedWith: Despite its name, Super Saiyan God is from a different branch of a regular Super Saiyan. It's achieved by five righteous Saiyans pouring their hearts into one person as opposed to being a burst of raw emotion.
** PlayedWith again with Super Saiyan Blue which is internalizing the power of Super Saiyan God and allows a Saiyan to reach that level of power without all the "five good-hearted Saiyans" rigamarole. Super Saiyan Blue is essentially just the Saiyans accessing their godly power and merging it with their standard Super Saiyan forms.
** Goku develops what's effectively a new tier to the Super Saiyan Blue form by [[spoiler: combining it with his old technique, Kaioken]], thus multiplying its power. This is an enhancement of the prior technique that increases effectiveness at the cost of a time limit, much like [=SSJ3=] in the previous series.
** Frieza is a straight example, gaining a new form to put him back on par with the heroes.
* NiceCharacterMeanActor: In-universe. Barry Kahn plays the heroic protagonists in his movies, yet in real life he is a major jerkass and narcissus. He's earned his reputation as a HateSink.
* NiceGirl: Cocoa Amaguri is probably one of the nicer characters in the show, despite [[spoiler:knowing the Great Saiyaman's identity]] and using it to blackmail him. Although, the blackmail is extremely mild: she only wants [[spoiler: Gohan to fly her home and help her work on her lines, and even that's because she was set up by Barry Kahn]]. She later blackmails Barry into keeping Gohan's identity a secret.
* NiceGuy:
** Gohan is a sweet young man who doesn't like fighting like his sad, but is the first one on the front lines when trouble strikes. Piccolo even names this as weakness. Gohan is ''too'' nice and too focused on protecting others that he tends to miss the big picture and make simple mistake during battle.
** Cabba is a Saiyan who fights to protect the helpless along with the other Saiyans in U6. He is also one of the few people to get along with Vegeta right away and even begs Vegeta to teach him how to become a Super Saiyan so he can better protect his universe.
** Frost is probably one of the nicest people in the series, which makes sense since he is Frieza's GoodCounterpart. He feels remorse for having killed an evil-doer by accident, which is why he refuses to use his true form. The reason why he joined the competition in the first place is to obtain Champa's assistance in ending conflict in his universe. Bulma, Goku's oldest friend, Chi-Chi, his wife, and Champa feel bad for the guy when he starts losing against Goku. [[spoiler: He's a really good actor. Frost is really a nasty piece of work who is just as bad as Frieza. He wins his matches against Goku and Piccolo by poisoning them]].
** By all accounts, [[TopGod Zen'o]] is a really nice guy who doesn't mind Goku acting informally towards him. [[spoiler: Although, he does have a mean-streak according to Whis. He destroyed 6 universes when he was upset since there was once 18]].
** Sidra comes off as this compared to the other Gods of Destruction since he hates destroying and feels bad when he does cause destruction. However, this is shown to be a bad trait. As a DestroyerDeity, it is necessary to destroy to bring balance to the universe and gods like Iwen, Arak, Liquir, and Gin shows how this can be done in an efficient manner.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** Teased throughout Episode 6, as various good guys do or say things that might annoy Beerus, not knowing he has a hair-trigger temper and will destroy the Earth if riled. Vegeta has to do a lot of damage control. Ultimately, things would have been fine since Beerus was ready to leave if Buu hadn't gotten selfish and eaten all the pudding. Attacking Beerus afterwards didn't help.
** Goku's mercy towards Frieza not only gets him shot in the back, but gives Frieza the chance to blow up the Earth. Thankfully, Whis reverses time so he can undo his mistake.
** When setting up the rules of the tournament, Vegeta suggests that all fighters must pass a simple written test to ensure that the participants are at least sentient. Unfortunately this backfires spectacularly when Buu gets every question wrong (including misspelling his own ''name'') and is disqualified before even setting foot in the ring. In the anime, Goku's score is never revealed although he did have some problems with a basic math question and Buu fell asleep during the test. [[spoiler: When it's revealed that Monaka is actually a weakling, Piccolo realized that this entire time they have been fighting U6 three-on-five and Vegeta forced Piccolo to forfeit so he can fight Frost. So, the entire tournament is left in Goku and Vegeta's hands thanks to Vegeta's test and Beerus [[DidntThinkThisThrough not thinking through his plan]]]].
** A minor one. Bulma bribes Whis with food to keep Beerus for wanting to destroy the Earth. Champa wants the entire Earth moved to his universe since he likes the food so much.
** A humorous example. Goku has finished his farming and is harvesting his crop along with Piccolo, calling it training. Naturally, Chi-Chi is very happy. Krillin visits, and is surprised to see Goku since Vegeta left with Whis and thought Goku went with him. Goku stops his harvesting, finds Vegeta's energy, and teleports to Beerus' planet. Chi-Chi makes Krillin take Goku's place harvesting the crops.
** Gowasu's attempt to assuage Zamasu's doubts about mortals backfires pretty spectacularly. Not only does seeing the dim future of the planet Babari strengthen Zamasu's conviction that all mortals are flawed and should be destroyed, but in taking him there Gowasu shows him where the Time Rings are kept and how to use them.
** Bulma has this reaction when she learns that Goku fought Zamasu, which gives him the idea to create [[spoiler: Goku Black]], according to Whis' theory.
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] and Black try to invoke this on Future Trunks, saying that his time-traveling enabled [[spoiler:more Time Rings, allowing Black/Zamasu to steal Goku's body]]. Trunks [[ShutUpHannibal rightfully tells them to shove it]].
** When Goku summons Shenron, Bulma tells Goku that if he does a favor for her, then she'll let him have the last wish. The favor involves tunneling to the center of the Earth to find the mineral needed for time travel. By the time Goku gets back, Shenron's physical form expires before Goku can get his wish granted. To add insult to injury, Beerus finds out and destroys the mineral, along with the time machine and its notes, so Goku helping Bulma worked ''against'' her.
** Goku gets bored and decides to check in with Zen'o about the multiverse tournament. Doing this leads to the rules stipulating that the losers get [[spoiler: their universes destroyed]]. Downplayed when it's revealed that Zen'o was [[spoiler: planning on eliminating most of the universes anyway; if anything, Goku actually gave them a shot at survival]].
** Beerus tears into the Earth's fighters since the only members for team U7 for the Tournament of Power are from Earth (even if some of them are aliens) and now they're one member short since [[spoiler: Buu fell [[RunningGag asleep]]]]. He then blames them for the lack of strong fighters in the universe since they destroyed the Frieza Force. This gives Goku the idea to [[spoiler: recruit Frieza as the tenth member]].
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** Assuming that was the entirety of Frieza's army, which it probably was since Frieza states that Vegeta would be the only member after Sorbet, him killing all his soldiers means that there are no more lackeys alive to resurrect him again. On top of that, he single-handedly destroys what is left of his empire, freeing the universe from its grasp forever and saving thousands if not millions of lives that would have been lost in planetary uprisings. His invasion also pushed Gohan to train again after he became too relax during the time of peace. Nice job indeed, Frieza.
** Frost indirectly cost his entire team [[spoiler: the tournament since he cheated during his match against Goku. After Jaco discovers Frost poisoning his opponents, he is disqualified and is only allowed back into the tournament on Vegeta's request. When Frost is knocked out by Vegeta, Beerus discovers the poison wound on Goku's palm, which allows him back into the tournament. If Frost had fought fairly, he would have lost, but Goku would have been forced to fight the entire U6 team to get to Hit and could have possibly lost to Magetta. And even if Goku had wiped out the entire team, he would have been severely weakened against Hit from all the fighting and it wouldn't have the chance to observed Hit fight, making him battle Hit blind. Goku would have most likely lose to Hit and Vegeta wouldn't have fare much better, especially since he doesn't have the Kaioken, and Monaka is a weakling who can't even hurt Hit]].
** [[spoiler: Thanks to Goku Black's refusal to become an immortal, which is in itself was caused by him stealing a Saiyan body which gave him a sense of Saiyan pride and [[BloodKnight battle-lust]], it taints Future Zamasu's CompleteImmortality when they fuse. This downgrades Merged Zamasu from "Completely Invincible" to just ''"Really Hard to Kill"'' which gives the heroes a shot at killing him.]]
* NicknamingTheEnemy: Future Bulma is the one who gave [[spoiler: Goku Black his name. He calls himself Son Goku, but Bulma didn't want to associate him with her long-dead friend and disgrace his memory]].
* NightmareFace: As [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's]] SanitySlippage starts coming in full force, plus the FacialHorror caused by Goku's flinging his Holy Wrath back at him, he becomes an avid practitioner of these. It gets even worse when he [[spoiler: turns into an EldritchAbomination, as the only thing recognisable about Zamasu at this point is his face, possessing GlowingEyesOfDoom, a ThroatLight, with the only expression being a perpetual SlasherSmile of utter madness.]]
* NighInvulnerability:
** Despite the heavy battle Beerus has with Super Saiyan God Goku, he gets through the fight without taking any real damage, while Goku collapses from exhaustion. He also receives no damage when he fought the Z-Fighters earlier.
** Even by ''Dragon Ball's'' standards, Frieza takes the cake. He manages to survive despite literally being in pieces and actually attempts to put himself back together after he's revived. Keep in mind, unlike Cell and Buu, he has no regeneration powers, so him living is pure endurance and toughness.
** Goku has shown throughout ''Super'' that not only is he physically powerful, but he can also take hits like a champ:
*** For most of the Super Saiyan Blue Goku vs. Golden Frieza fight, Goku gets pounded by Frieza. Despite taking heavy damaged, however, he still outlast Frieza who burns through his energy because he isn't used to his golden transformation. By the end of the fight, Frieza is the one who can barely stand and is breathing heavily. Even when Goku gets his heart pierced by Sorbet's laser, he remains conscious as [[ColdBloodedTorture Frieza beats him and steps on his wound]]. Although, he would have died of his wound if he wasn't given a Senzu. Goku himself wonders how he's still alive after being shot in the heart.
*** During his match with Hit, he takes multiple heavy attacks to his vital areas without going down. Keep in mind, Hit is the same person who defeated Vegeta with mostly light attacks with only one heavy punch to gut.
*** In the Future Trunks Saga, he survives being impaled through the chest by [[spoiler: Goku Black]] and manages to go into a [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge berserk rage]] against ''both'' [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu]] when he hears that Black [[spoiler: murdered Chi-Chi and Goten after stealing his body]]. It takes an energy blast to the chest and multiple sword strikes across his body ''exploding'' within him to take Goku down. Even then, he's still alive and conscious.
** Botamo's special ability: he can transfer damage he would've taken to another dimension, negating all the damage. Even Goku couldn't actually hurt him and had to throw him out of the ring to win.
** Magetta can tank blows from post God Vegeta with no visual damage. In fact, he goes one step farther and begins [[RapidFireFisticuffs blitzing his own head in]], in just a show of how useless most attacks are going to be. He even takes a full power [[WaveMotionGun Final Flash]] from Super Saiyan Vegeta, and was only briefly stunned; keep in mind that the last person to be hit with a fully charged Final Flash was Perfect Cell, who was critically injured by the attack and ''only'' survived because he dodged at the last second.
** Hit's endurance is godlike since he's able to withstand attacks from Goku's [[spoiler: Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken and still come out mostly unharmed]]. The only exception is a scratch he received from regular Goku early on, after Goku developed a counter to his ability, but that could easily be because his guard was down from shock.
** After his first fight with Goku, [[spoiler: Goku Black has grown so powerful that he can tank hits from Super Saiyan God Super Vegeta without transforming]]. He even takes a pounding and gets stronger when Goku tries to kill him for [[spoiler: murdering his family after stealing his body]].
** Vegeta, as always. He gets [[spoiler: impales close to his heart by Goku Black]] and not only did he stay alive, but he manages a last-ditch Final Flash that saves Goku and Future Trunks.
** [[spoiler: Future]] Zamasu has managed to acquire [[spoiler: immortality to such an extent that he can survive and shrug off being shish-kebabbed and having a Final Flash explode in his face by Future Trunks. He laters gets his ''head blown off'' by Goku and it just grows back within seconds. He even uses his invulnerability to his advantage by grappling Trunks and Goku together and allowing Black to smack all three of them head-on with a powered up Kamehameha knocking the two of them out]].
** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] inherited [[spoiler: Future Zamasu's CompleteImmortality]]. Keyword is ''nigh''. [[spoiler: Goku Black's mortal half lowered him from 'completely invincible' to simply 'insanely hard to actually hurt']]. We then find out [[spoiler: that destroying his body didn't kill him and he merges with the multiverse, killing all the mortals. It takes Future Zen'o wiping out the entire timeline to finally kill him]].
** [[spoiler: Future Zen'o]] survives a blank ''multiverse'' busting explosion so powerful that not even the [[spoiler: immortal Merged Zamasu could survive it]]. [[spoiler: Zen'o]], however, is left completely unharmed.
* [[InUniverse Nightmare Fuel]]: Bulma sees Beerus gaining access to the Super Dragon Balls to be this since, according to him, he would wish for the destruction of the universe.
* NoBadassToHisValet:
** It doesn't matter that Goku is literally a PhysicalGod capable of destroying the universe, he's a HenpeckedHusband to his wife Chi-Chi. Goten lampshades that she's really the strongest person in the universe.
** Whis doesn't care if Beerus is the God of Destruction and TheDreaded of the universe. He has no problem talking back to him and putting him in his place when he goes too far. [[spoiler: It helps that he's ''much'' stronger than Beerus]].
** Champa is also a God of Destruction, but Vados regularly teases him about his weight and eating hobbies. [[spoiler: She is also Whis' equal]].
** PlayedWith. Bulma slaps Beerus for calling her an old auntie, much like she does with every powerful fighter in the series. However, she is fully aware that hitting Beerus is ''not'' a good idea given her fearful reaction when Beerus glares at her. Thankfully, Beerus decides to forgive her this time since she is the one who suggests using Shenron to track the last Super Dragon Ball. Thank you, PlotArmor!
* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction: When Goku hears that Beerus' life is linked with the Supreme Kai, Goku quickly notes, to Beerus' horror, that he can beat Beerus by beating the much weaker Supreme Kai. He then dismisses the idea, calling it too easy. He's also so willing to get a good fight that he will heavily suppress himself even transformed to better match his opponent.
* NobleDemon:
** Most of Frieza's men come off as this. Yes, they are evil and want to conquer the universe, but they also value their comrades and follow Sorbet out of a sense of loyalty instead of fear. Despite being really mad that Pilaf and his gang stole their wishes, Sorbet didn't kill them, [[PragmaticVillainy mostly because he wanted to keep them around in case they needed to track the Dragon Balls again]]. They also didn't like Frieza because he was such a terrible [[BadBoss boss]] and only relented once they had no choice. Sorbet is also [[EvenEvilHasStandards disgusted]] by Tagoma killing Shisami just to down an enemy and Shisami himself never saw the betrayal coming.
** Despite being an infamous assassin, Hit has a strict code of honor. He refuses to defeat Goku when he has the chance as a thank you to Goku for forcing him to improve his [[spoiler: time-skipping technique]]. He also refuses to play keep away per Champa's order since he wants to face Goku's [[spoiler: Super Saiyan Blue/Kaioken combination]] head on since he sees Goku as a WorthyOpponent and [[spoiler: he throws his match against Monaka since Goku did the same during their match]]. In Episode 71, [[spoiler: he offers to let Goku live and walk away if he disappears. Goku refuses and temporarily dies because of it]]. Of the hits we've seen him do, he also avoids killing anyone ''but'' his target, using his [[spoiler:time skip]] to just bypass guards and civilians. He also lets his targets know they're about to die, kills them from the front, and does so quickly with a minimum of pain.
** Copy-Vegeta. He is evil and would have killed Trunks and Goten if Goku hadn't intervened, but he's nowhere near as evil as Vegeta when he was the ruthless Saiyan Prince. He hesitates when told to absorb Trunks, praises Trunks for his efforts against him, and refuses to absorb Goku or anyone else during his match with Goku, wanting to keep things fair. The only person he coldly mocks is the real Vegeta, calling him a empty shell that should disappear.
* NoBodyLeftBehind:
** The most common way the villains die in the series. Frieza's entire army outside of Sorbet and Shisami, Frieza, Copy-Vegeta, and [[spoiler: Present Zamasu]] were destroyed without leaving any body behind.
** The reason the Commeson is such a threat is becomes when it takes on the likeness of the person it imitates, that person begins to disappear after three to five minutes.
* NonchalantDodge: Ultra Instinct, a state that's difficult for even ''gods'' to master, is basically this ''personified.'' [[spoiler:When Goku breaks his limits and gains a transformation resembling this state]], he dodged Toppo's Justice Flash simply by ''turning and walking.''
* NoEndorHolocaust:
** During Goku and Beerus' battle the entire universe is in danger of being destroyed. Their very punches send shockwaves so powerful that we actually see a planet disintegrate into dust and a star blow up. It is never shown if this planet was populated or if any other civilizations were affected. We also see people on Earth becoming physically sick from the battle and collapsing. How did this affect people driving in motor vehicles or working in hospitals?
** Champa had to destroy at least six planets across Universes 6 and 7 to find the Super Dragon Balls. We also know he made at least one mistake and destroyed a planet that didn't have one. How many of those planets were populated?
** When Super Shenron awakens, he devours a planet as he grows in size. Hope that world wasn't populated.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown:
** After becoming serious as Golden Frieza, he beats the daylights out of Goku. He also tears Goku up after he's mortally wounded by Sorbet, going as far as stomping on his heart wound.
** SSGSS Vegeta delivers one to Golden Frieza, eschewing DBZ's signature Ki attacks and high-speed fighting in favor of a few simple yet effective strikes. It does help that Frieza had depleted his stamina beforehand. The beating is also more brutal than the movie since Vegeta's 'fight' is longer.
* NoNonsenseNemesis:
** After his hellish training with Frieza, Tagoma becomes this. He tries to kill Gohan by [[CombatPragmatist shooting through Shisami while he was fighting Gohan]], he goes to his full power from the start, and disables Piccolo quickly by ripping off his arm before going for the kill.
** Hit will not toy around with his targets, prefering to end his battles or kill his targets as efficiently as possible. At least, until he finds a WorthyOpponent. This is shown perfectly in Episode 71 when we see him in the middle of a hit job on a local crime boss. He uses Time Skip to bypass all the boss' security guards and reach his target, calmly tells said target that he's hired to kill him, then promptly punches a hole through said target's chest, killing him instantly.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] shows why he is one of the most dangerous villains in the series upon his introduction:
*** He is a merciless mass-murderer who hardly talks and goes for the kill quickly. He kills [[spoiler: Future Bulma instantly and nearly kills Future Mai]]. While he does play around with Future Trunks, allowing him to attack and go Super Saiyan, he is ready to kill him after a short beatdown. When he was about to be sucked back into the future, [[spoiler: he destroys Future Trunks' time machine, trapping him in the past, figuring if he couldn't kill Trunks he could at least keep him from ever returning to his world]].
*** When Goku and the others confront him in the future, [[spoiler:he lets Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta pound on him before getting serious and transforms into Super Saiyan Rosé, and then stabs Vegeta through the chest with an energy sword]]. He also choses to double team Goku instead of just letting [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] handle things.
*** Unlike all the other ''Dragon Ball'' villains, he isn't in the habit of telling people about his motives. Although he tells Future Trunks he wants to wipe out mortals on the gods' behalf because he sees them as failures, he doesn't say how he came to this conclusion. He's also tight-lipped about his origins. He gives hints about how his current body isn't his natural state, but that's about all he's willing to say on the subject and refuses to answer Goku's questions when he asks him for more information. [[spoiler: When he does reveal who he is, he says that he killed the original Goku, unlike Ginyu who tends to keep his victims alive]]. Furthermore, [[spoiler: when he talks about his origins, he says he killed all the other gods, leaving only Future Zamasu alive, and destroyed the Super Dragon Balls once he used them to give Future Zamasu immortality, much like King Piccolo did back in ''Dragon Ball'']].
*** Finally, after seeing [[spoiler: Goku and Vegeta escape in the Time Machine twice, when they return for the third time he destroys the Time Machine immediately]]. When told it was time to get serious by [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] since they can't afford to underestimate the mortals anymore, Black agrees and [[spoiler: fuses with him]].
** Unlike the other heroes, Future Trunks doesn't want his enemies to grow stronger, or complete their goals. [[spoiler: He kills both Dabura and Babidi without letting them revive Buu, unlike the main timeline in which Vegeta sold his soul and caused Buu to awaken]]. He also tries to kill [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] instead of disable him like Goku would, first by impaling him and then by [[spoiler: firing a Final Flash]]. He only fails because [[spoiler: Zamasu is an immortal]].
** Rather uncharacteristically, Vegeta pulls out all the stops against [[spoiler: Goku Black]] and immediately hits him with his full power, driven by his desire for vengeance after all the things Black has done.
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] is merciless when dealing with Goku, trying to end him quickly instead of playing around. He also doesn't mind [[spoiler: Goku Black joining him in the kill and actually holds Goku and Future Trunks down so Goku Black can hit them with his Kamehameha. His biggest flaw is that he tends to go into {{Motive Rant}}s, which allowed Trunks to beat him up and fire a Final Flash at him. Even then, the moment he realizes that Trunks had a way to bypass his immortality using the Evil Containment Wave, he immediately fuses Black, not wanting to take anymore chances with underestimating the mortals]].
** Beerus is kind of a {{troll}} when dealing with mortals, intimidating them and matching his power to theirs so he can humiliate them in a fight. However, when a fellow god gets out of line, he dispenses with such games. After seeing proof that [[spoiler: Present Zamasu would try to kill Gowasu]], he literally annihilates the perpetrator with a single word.
** The moment [[spoiler: Future Zen'o realizes what Merged Zamasu has done and that he's responsible, he powers up and one shots him in an instant. No warning him to stop it or he'll be wiped out or speeches. Merged Zamasu was there, and then he wasn't. Nothing more than that]].
* NonStandardCharacterDesign:
** Most of the U6's Saiyans have designs devoid of muscle definition, far thinner than Saiyans like Vegeta's brother Tarble, or Trunks and Goten who are human-hybrid children. Also notable, their eyes are in a thin design similar to Androids 17 and 18 that, while have been seen on Saiyans in the past, were never before seen on a Super Saiyan.
** Brianne's design is quite different from Toriyama's usual style. She is drawn cuter with wide eyes in her human form. She wouldn't be out of place in ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'', which makes sense since she's an obvious homaged to the Magical Girl genre.
* NoodleIncident: We don't know what caused Beerus to have so much trouble with Monaka since he seems so weak. [[spoiler: Most likely, this is just a story Beerus made up to motivate Goku]].
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Goku when he's really excited about something. He gets right in Beerus' face, asking about who Monaka is.
* NoSell:
** The attacks that Beerus doesn't bother to dodge have no effect on him.
** Piccolo charges up to full power and punches Tagoma in the face. Tagoma doesn't even flinch. He also shows no visible damage after getting hit by Gohan's energy blast.
** After Frieza's power drops, Goku takes a punch directly to the face. He doesn't even flinch and smiles.
** Botamo has the ability to no sell any attack by sending it into another dimension, including Goku's Kamehameha.
** Magetta takes all of Vegeta's attacks without taking any damage. Even a direct hit to the face from the Garlic Gun leaves him completely unfazed, and the Final Flash just manages to push him to the edge of the stage. He only loses his match because Vegeta insults him, making him lose the will to fight, and because Vegeta destroys the piece of stage below him, causing him to fall to the floor for a ring out.
** Goku gains the ability to negate Hit's [[spoiler: time freezing power by combining Super Saiyan Blue with the Kaioken. That is until Hit improves it again]].
** ''None'' of Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks' attacks can harm Copy-Vegeta and he was in his ''base form''.
** When Future Trunks impales [[spoiler: Future Zamasu, his body instantly heals due to being immortal. He also takes a Final Flash and Goku Black's Kamehameha without even getting a scratch]]. Not even Goku [[spoiler: ''blowing off his head'']] slowed him down.
** Although Yuri have some martial arts training, she can't even make Roshi flinch when she punches and kicks him, reminding everyone that despite his old age and being weak compared to the other Z-Fighters, he was once the WorldsStrongestMan. It takes Yuri kicking him [[GroinAttack below the belt]] to disable him.
** In a MythologyGag throwback to Broly, Kale is essentially TheJuggernaut while fighting Goku, even tanking [[spoiler: a kamehameha from his SSB form]]. This sets her up for [[spoiler: TheWorfEffect when she is taken out effortlessly by Jiren shortly after]].
** Kunshi surrounds himself with explosive threads of energy as a defensive technique. While Hit counters this with a bolt of energy that harms Kunshi but doesn't effect the threads, Goku just tanks the explosions and charges in to punch his target.
* NotGoodWithRejection: Everything Barry Kahn does, [[spoiler:both before and after he's possessed by Watagash]], is purely because Videl, a ''married'' woman, shot him down when he tried hitting on her.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Goku is blamed by the gods for starting the Tournament of Power that put their universes in danger. While it is true that Goku reminded Zen'o about the tournament he promised back in the Champa Saga, the universes forced to enter the Tournament of Power were screwed regardless since [[spoiler: Zen'o was going to destroy the universe with the lowest Mortal Levels. So Goku indirectly gave at least one universe the chance to save itself]]. However, Goku does himself no favors because of his laid-back attitude, how casually he treats Zen'o, and how he shows no real concern about being labeled a villain out to destroy the multiverse. He actually fully embraced being seen as 'evil' and [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu openly challenges the gods to bring their best fighters so he can beat them]].
* NotQuiteDead: After being split in half by Future Trunks, [[spoiler: it's revealed that Merged Zamasu didn't die since he is an immortal. Only his physical body was destroyed since Goku Black's lack of immortality compromised Merged Zamasu's HealingFactor. He actually becomes more powerful after losing his body since he can merge with the multiverse itself]].
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** #18 becomes very excited when she hears the second place prize for Bingo is a castle.
** Piccolo, babysitting Pan while her parents are shopping, starts making funny faces at her once he's sure no one is watching. Unfortunately, we only see him from behind as he does this.
** At the end of the Resurrection 'F' Saga. Piccolo is at Bulma's party with a bowl of food in his hands, despite not needing to eat.
** Although Vados tries to act more refine than Whis, she adores the instant ramen noodles almost as much as Champa. She also says that she wants to see how the match between Hit and Goku will end without Hit trying to buy time for Goku's [[spoiler: Kaioken]] to run out.
** During the match once Goku starts getting the upper-hand, Hit starts screaming and clutching his arms presumably to power up until it's revealed that Hit can't power up like the Saiyans and simply improved the duration of his [[spoiler: time leap to 0.2 seconds]] mid-fight. He was only screaming like that to imitate Goku......it seems Goku's eccentric ways has rubbed off on him. He even smiles, something that freaks out the Supreme Kai of U6.
* NotSoDifferentRemark:
** King Kai notes that Goku and Beerus can't meet because they both can't control themselves.
** After getting the hang of being a god, Goku uses his newfound power to grab Beerus, flick on the forehead, and karate chop him on the neck, just as he did to him on King Kai's planet. Beerus is surprised that Goku is the type to hold such a petty grudge and says that they're very similar. When upset, they let their emotions get the best of them. Much later, Beerus calls Goku a fighting fool for not noticing that he lost his Super Saiyan God form. Goku laughs and says that they're very much alike, to which Beerus agrees. The narrative even calls their fight a battle of fools instead of gods. Whis himself later notes the similarities between Goku and Beerus, saying that they are both selfish and childish when it comes to fighting.
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] gets this from Goku, who notes that he [[BloodKnight loves to fight and test himself, just like him]]. They are also both slow starters, preferring to gradually build towards their true power to test their opponents.
* NotSoStoic:
** Shenron, a being that usually doesn't react to whatever's going on around him, has a near FreakOut when he learns that Beerus is on the planet, is nervously polite to him, and after providing the wished information quickly dissipates the Dragon Balls as if in a hurry to get out of there.
** Hit is a very stoic guy, being a ProfessionalKiller and all. However, as he fights Goku he starts screaming while powering-up, mimicking Goku, and breaks into a smile since he is enjoying a match for the first time in his life.
** Fuwa, the Supreme Kai of Universe 6, is normally very impassive, his only reaction to any situation to say "Oh my" in a faintly concerned voice. However, when the fight between [[spoiler: Goku and Kefla]] reaches its height, he suddenly snaps and starts screaming at the arena like a sports hooligan. Everyone is surprised by this except Champa.
* NotWorthKilling: After allowing Frieza to burn through his energy, Goku says that there is little point in fighting and he should just go away. [[ReasonYouSuckSpeech He also gets on Frieza for coming to Earth without mastering his new transformation]].
* NumberTwo: Goku becomes this to Gohan after he makes him the captain of the Universe 7 team. Gohan comes up with the battle strategies and team formations, while Goku acts as the recruiter.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: O]]
* ObsessedWithFood:
** Beerus and to a lesser extent, Whis. Both of them love to eat and often dine on the planet they plan to destroy. The reason why Beerus wants to destroy the Earth is because he was denied pudding and Whis keeps stopping him because he still wants to eat.
** Whis returns to Earth every few months to eat the latest goodies, compliments of Bulma.
** Champa is so food obsessed that he wants to move the entire Earth to his universe using the Super Dragon Balls he searched so long to find.
* ObviouslyEvil: More so than any other villain in the series. [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is heavily associated with the [[DarkIsEvil color black]], [[EvilWearsBlack dressing in black clothes]] and possessing dark ki, manifests as a LivingShadow in his debut appearance, wears a PsychoticSmirk all the time, and is introduced as having caused the [[PersonOfMassDestruction second apocalypse]] in Future Trunks' timeline. Although, ironically, he's a KnightTemplar.
* OctopoidAliens: The Galactic King resembles a large green octopus wearing a crown. Interestingly, one of his tentacles is a penis, just like real-life octopuses, something Goku learns after [[GreetingGestureConfusion trying to shake his "hand"]].
* OhCrap: Happens all the time in every saga:
** Battle of Gods Saga:
*** Elder Kai is startled when he realizes Beerus has awakened and is casually destroying planets for petty reasons. He has another one when he realizes that Beerus is heading towards King Kai's planet, most likely seeking Goku. King Kai also has the same reaction when he realizes this.
*** King Kai's reaction when Beerus asks about Goku, who is hiding in his house.
*** Vegeta upon meeting Beerus at Bulma's party. He had another one after Trunks accidentally shoots Beerus with a water gun. And he had a major one after Buu ate all the pudding and attempts to fight Beerus.
*** Dende as he realizes that Beerus is a god.
*** The Supreme Kai has one after he is told that the universe will be destroyed because of the fighting between Beerus and Goku. The characters on Earth have the same reaction when Whis tells them this information.
** Resurrection 'F' Saga:
*** Everyone's reaction when they learned Frieza is back and he's heading for Earth with an army of a thousand men.
*** Goku have this reaction when he learns that it will take Whis thirty-five minutes to reach Earth and he can't sense anyone's energies to teleport.
*** Frieza's has a big one after Goku [[NoSell no sells]] a punch to the face. He has another major one after Vegeta reveals that he can become a Super Saiyan Blue like Goku. And this is his final expression when he sees Goku's Kamehameha heading right for him.
*** To those who realized that Frieza destroyed the Earth in their final moments.
** Champa Saga:
*** Goku and Vegeta when they realize that Champa and Beerus are about to fight and they can barely move thanks to the heavy suites Whis put them in.
*** Everyone's reactions, including Bulma, after she slaps Beerus for calling her an auntie.
*** Shenron isn't please to see Beerus back on Earth.
*** Frost's face when he sees [[ProfessionalKiller Hit]] when he's trying to [[spoiler: steal the prize treasure and Champa's ship]].
*** Piccolo's reaction when he learns that Monaka [[spoiler: isn't as strong as Beerus made him out to be, making Goku their last real fighter]].
*** Hit makes this face after Goku not only manages to counter his [[spoiler: time freezing technique]], but almost lands a solid punch on him. He also has a major one after Goku {{No Sell}}s his [[spoiler: Time-Leaping technique when using his Super Saiyan Blue/Kaioken combo]].
*** ''Beerus''' facial expression when he sees Goku's [[spoiler: Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo]]. He freaks out thinking that Goku could have done it during their battle and it's a technique Goku created specifically for him.
*** Beerus and Champa react this way to [[spoiler:[[TopGod Zen'o]] appearing.]] So do the Kais, a moment later. And Vegeta and Piccolo when Beerus explains who he is to them.
** Future Trunks Saga:
*** Future Bulma, Trunks, and Mai's reactions whenever [[spoiler: Goku Black]] finds them and for good reason. Both times he arrives before them, he does his utmost to kill them, [[HeroKiller and succeeds for the most part]].
*** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] gets two in the same episode. The first one is when he realizes that he was being pulled back towards the time portal during his first match with Goku. The second, after being distracted by Future Trunks' time machine, Goku flies towards him with a kick. His expression says it all before he gets nailed.
*** When the Zen'o (the supreme ruler of the universe) calls Beerus, he mentions that he wants to [[spoiler: speak to Goku]], causing a reaction not only from Beerus, but ''Whis'' as well, whom prior to this point, has never had such a horrified reaction.
*** Future Trunks' expression when he see [[spoiler: Goku Black become a Super Saiyan Rosé]]. After that, [[spoiler: both Goku and Trunks gasped when they see Vegeta impaled by Black]].
*** After Future Trunks' [[spoiler: Final Flash]] fails to do anything against [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]], he can only stand frozen in terror. He has another one when [[spoiler: Zamasu]] grabs Goku and him so they can be wrecked by Black's Kamehameha. Finally, Goku actually exclaimed 'crap' when [[spoiler: Zamasu]] and Black are about to finished them off with a combination attack.
*** Basically Gohan's reaction when he finally realizes just how LockedOutOfTheLoop he is with regards to why Trunks paid them a visit in the first place.
*** Master Roshi is understandably unnerved when Goku comes to him to learn the Mafuba/Evil Containment Wave - if ''Goku'', someone who has risen to a level of a deity, needs that technique, ''what kind of opponent could possibly require it''? [[spoiler:Simply put, someone who possesses CompleteImmortality]].
*** When fighting Super Trunks/Super Saiyan Rage Trunks, [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is caught off guard when Trunks throws his sword to distract him and punches him in the stomach. Trunks then fires a Garlick Gun that sends Black flying, much to his shock.
*** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] gets another one after Vegeta unleashes an energy blast when he's ranting to himself about Vegeta's increased power.
*** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] have a few. The first being when Vegeta and Future Trunks deflects his energy ball with a Father-Son Galick Gun, then when Goku blasts him with an overcharged Kamehameha that [[spoiler: melted half of his face]], and again when Goku [[spoiler: uses his Kaioken to break his halo]]. His final one is when [[spoiler: Future Trunks absorbs a Spirit Bomb into his sword and uses it to overwhelm him]].
*** Goku has an epic one when he realizes that [[spoiler: Future Zen'o was going to destroy the multiverse to kill Merged Zamasu since he fused with it. Merged Zamasu, also has the same reaction]].
** Breather Arcs
*** Vegeta's reaction as he realizes that [[Manga/DrSlump Arale]] is a [[BreakingTheFourthWall gag manga character]] and that [[GenreSavvy he can't win since he's an action manga character]].
*** Gohan has this visible reaction when Goku throws his SSGSS-powered vanishing ball at Champa during the baseball game since he's the catcher. The explosion was so powerful that it could be seen from space and Gohan joked that he nearly got vaporized.
*** Hit's reaction after Goku breaks his PocketDimension using the aura of his Super Saiyan Blue form and firing a Kamehameha at him while he's defenseless.
** Universe Survival Saga:
*** Everyones' reaction when they hear that the losing universe of the Tournament of Power will be [[spoiler: destroyed]].
*** Basil when he sees Buu's Kamehameha and he can't dodge it.
*** The gods actually had this reaction when they first see Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan Blue against Bergamo.
*** Toppo's expression when he sees the Warp Kamehameha just before Goku nails him.
*** Goku has a visible one after Piccolo finishes charging his energy attack during the two-on-two sparring match between Piccolo and Gohan. Earlier, Tien has one just before Gohan slammed his fist into his stomach.
*** The bewildered expression of Kefla's (i.e., a fusion of Kale and Caulifla) face when Goku, who is in his Ultra Instinct form at this time, easily dodged her [[DesperationAttack Final Weapon]] in the attempt of taking Goku out by ''using his energy to slide on her beam and blast her square in the face with his own attack'', being unable to get out of the way in time.
* OlderThanHeLooks:
** Goku is in his late thirties going on forty (although since he was dead for seven years he is physically younger), while Vegeta is in his mid-forties. After training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for three years, Goku regains some of the years he lost being dead, while Vegeta is physically five years older than he really is (he already spent two years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber during the Cell Saga). They don't look it. Goku and Vegeta both looked to be in their earlier thirties. {{Justified|Trope}} since Saiyans age slower than humans.
** Goten and Trunks are much like their fathers. By the Champa Saga, they both should be around thirteen and fourteen years old. They looked exactly the same as they did when they were seven and eight. Again, this is consistent with Saiyan aging if we look at Goku as a precedent: he looked like a child until the age of fifteen, and reached his adult height sometime between then and eighteen. However this excuse isn't very consistent since Gohan aged normally, and looked older at 10 years old during the Cell saga than Goten and Trunks do at thirteen.
** Marron, Krillin and Android 18's daughter, looks the same as she did during the Buu Saga. Unlike Goten and Trunks she doesn't have the excuse of having Saiyan blood.
** Cus, the angel of universe 10, is the Grand Priest’s oldest child, but she looks like a little girl. Of course, the fact that she also acts like one doesn’t help either.
* OminousLatinChanting: Frieza's theme involves a choir chanting in a breathless, monosyllabic pattern that is as ominous as possible. Taken even further when he first shows off his golden form, with the choir singing verses in almost reverent fashion. Similar music plays when Frieza destroys the Earth. The chanting theme is also played for Frost during the first multiverse championship, [[spoiler: which provides a hint of his true nature]].
* OmnicidalManiac:
** Zen'o can be this if his temper is triggered, as it's revealed [[spoiler: that he destroyed six entire universes when he was in a bad mood]].
** Upon his introduction, [[spoiler: Goku Black]] has already eradicated most of humanity, and is about to finish off the last survivors when the story picks up. He outright tells Future Trunks that he's destroyed many planets, along with their inhabitants, before coming to Earth. Even more, [[spoiler: Future Zamasu and he wipes out the other gods in the future timeline to become 'supreme gods' and the only authority left in the multiverse]]. In his mind, this is all [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans justified]] in that he wants to create a perfect universe, and mortals are mistakes of the gods. Although, in truth, this is all just an excuse to reshape the multiverse in his image. [[spoiler: His fusion counterpart, Merged Zamasu, is worse. He starts to destroy parts of the planet he wants to 'protect' just to show off]].
*** [[spoiler: Zamasu (including his alternate counterpart Goku Black)]] is a twist on the trope, at least by ''Dragon Ball'' standards. Unlike previous enemies, he's not a GenericDoomsdayVillain and is instead driven by a twisted sense of morality. His ultimate goal is to rid the multiverse of all mortals, which doesn't seem to have any problem with non-intelligent life. As such, he doesn't cause wanton destruction (until he hits a PowerHigh and loses self-control) and is one of the few villains in the franchise to never try to blow up the planet, even when he is losing. [[spoiler: Upon becoming Infinite Zamasu, he plays this completely straight, trying to kill off every life form that isn't him, even invading other timelines to do so.]]
* TheOmniscient: Zuno knows about ''everything'' in the universe. He knew exactly what Bulma's breast size was, even before they began to drop. He's even more knowledgeable than Whis.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense:
** [[spoiler: Goku Black]] feels that he has one since he comes from a 'higher place' and has seen the truth. He feels no remorse killing billions of mortals in the name of [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans creating a prefect universe]].
** [[spoiler: Future Zamasu, much like Goku Black, thinks he has one. He believes that killing all the mortals in the universe will create a [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans paradise]] since mortal are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil evil by nature]] and, [[AGodAmI as a god]], he has a duty to promote justice. He especially feels that upstart, god-fighting jerks like Goku are unneeded]]. Present Zamasu isn't much better since [[spoiler: he is willing to murder his own master to advance his goals]].
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: During the Tournament of Power arc, Goten and Trunks naturally expect that their fused form, Gotenks, will be invited to join the Universe 7 team due to his status as one of the most powerful Saiyans. Instead, they're shot down when the Z-Fighters point out that the last time they tried relying on Gotenks to save the world, he screwed up so badly he nearly got them all killed. This is despite the fact that the kids are older and at least somewhat wiser, which should mediate the worst of the personality traits that made Gotenks such a failure.
* OneWingedAngel:
** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu for Black and Future Zamasu]]. They form him after [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]] was nearly sealed with the Evil Containment Wave.
** Brianne's normal form is that of a slim, pretty girl. She transforms into her fatter form to do battle.
** True [[spoiler: Golden Frieza]]. Thanks to his mental training in Hell [[spoiler: Frieza can finally control his golden form to the point that it no longer leaks energy and he also becomes much stronger. So Golden Frieza really is an ultimate transformation]].
* OnlyAFleshWound:
** [[spoiler:Vegeta gets impaled through the chest by Black]], in a way that probably should result in certain death. Although he's not in great health, he doesn't seem to be dying, or if he is it's not a fast one. But then again, this is the same guy who took several minutes to die from a ''punctured heart''.
** The same happens to [[spoiler: Goku, although through the side instead of the chest,]] a few episodes later. He's inconvenienced at worst, and once he enters UnstoppableRage, it doesn't seem to even slow him down.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Hit is only involved in the tournament to get Champa's cube as Vados offered him, and otherwise doesn't seem at all interested in the other matches at all. [[spoiler:He only does anything about Frost because he was trying to steal his prize]]. {{Subverted}} when he faces off against Goku and considers him a WorthyOpponent. [[spoiler:This sentiment is enough for Hit to throw the tournament to [[JokeCharacter Monaka]] since Goku gave up on their match since he didn't like being a pawn to the gods. He even tells Champa point-blank that he didn't want the space cube, that can travel between universes, anymore]].
* OnlySaneMan:
** As always, Krillin is one of the few fighters who doesn't try to take on a warrior that he knows is way stronger than him as almost everyone else gets beat into the ground by Beerus. The man probably knows his limits better than only other fighter in the show.
** Yamcha as well. He didn't bother to fight Beerus. Instead, he offers to watch Marron so Krillin could fight with the others.
** Chi-Chi in Episode 18. Gohan and Hercule were perfectly happy throwing baby Pan back and forth. Videl was perfectly happy watching them. Pan was perfectly happy to be perpetually airborne. Chi-Chi was the only one who walked in the room going 'You guys are throwing a BABY.' Though granted, Gohan did make a good point about Pan's Saiyan blood probably being enough to keep her from any real danger.
** Tagoma actively questions the wisdom of bring back Frieza, reminding everyone of what a heartless bastard he was. He also protests going to Earth since the [[TheDreaded the Super Saiyan is there]].
** Both Whis and Vados play this role to their respective gods, especially since Beerus and Champa can be very childish and petty.
** Bulma thinks she's this since she's the only one concerned about Beerus gaining access to the Super Dragon Balls.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Goku has few moments of acting out of character:
*** Rather than his usual BloodKnight attitude, Goku states outright that he feels no excitement at fighting Frieza despite how powerful he's become, and tells him point-blank that he has nothing but disgust and contempt for him.
*** Chichi and Goten become concerned when Goku only eats half what he usually does (which is still of course [[BigEater a vast amount]]). It's revealed that he's sick with Delayed Onset Ki Syndrome.
*** After [[spoiler: Goku Black impales Vegeta]], Goku tells Future Trunks to take care of Vegeta and goes straight into his Super Saiyan Blue form. Trunks notes that Goku is fighting at full power from the start instead of his usual slow burn approach.
*** When Goku seemingly has Black at his mercy, he pauses for several seconds before deciding to kill Black. This is ''extremely'' out of character since Goku doesn't attack downed foes and often berates Vegeta for attacking people who can't defend themselves. Which is understandable since [[spoiler: Black murdered his family in another timeline after stealing his body]].
*** When [[spoiler:Future Zen'o begins preparing a multiverse buster]] to destroy [[spoiler:Merged Zamasu and the timeline he's corrupted by merging with]], Goku tells everyone to ''[[RunOrDie run]] [[spoiler:back to the past]] ASAP''. This being ''Goku'', him wanting to ''run'' certainly has this effect on everyone, and they barely make it in time.
*** In Episode 71, Goku's family become concerned by his very uncharacteristic behavior, such as eating his dinner one grain of rice at a time, being so sensitive to sensing life energies that he can sense the exact number and position of cockroaches currently in the kitchen, and wandering aimlessly through the city while doing errands, all with his eyes closed. He's also unusually jumpy, dodging when Bulma tries to slap him instead of getting hit as usual. [[spoiler: This is all because he knows Hit is coming to kill him and is trying to sense the assassin's presence]].
** Vegeta also has more than a few moments:
*** As in ''Battle of Gods'', Vegeta being absolutely ''terrified'' of Beerus speaks volumes about how dangerous the god is. In this case it's even worse--everyone else is trying to fight Beerus and he's paralyzed in fear. Even after becoming friendlier with Beerus, he's still scared of him and humbles himself the moment Beerus has an outburst or when someone says something out of line with Beerus, which is usually Bulma.
*** Vegeta is noticeably respectful towards Whis, greeting and bowing when he returns home. He even lowers his head and begs Whis to train him when he learns that he's Beerus' mentor.
*** When Vegeta kills Ginyu instead of having his usual glee when he murders someone, he seems more angry and disgusted.
*** Despite having the opportunity to do it since the rules were changed, Vegeta doesn't kill Frost, saying that he didn't want to stoop to his level. The same Vegeta who had no problem killing people not even an arc ago.
** Beerus is close to freaking out when he realizes that Goku is his last great fighter since Monaka [[spoiler: was just brought along to motivate Goku and Vegeta, and he isn't very strong]].
** [[TheStoic Hit]] breaks into a smile during his match with Goku, truly enjoying a fight as a martial artist. This freaks out the Supreme Kai from Universe 6.
** Both Beerus and Champa are terrified of Zen'o and immediately humble themselves in his presence. This is saying a lot since they're both {{Jerkass God}}s with huge [[SmugSuper egos]]. Beerus freaks out just from hearing Goku mention Zen'o's name during casual conversation.
** The normally unflappable Whis is shocked when [[spoiler: Zen'o asks to meet Goku]]. He's also unusually tense and firm with Goku when he's taking him to [[spoiler: Zen'o's palace]].
* OpeningShoutOut: During the scene where Black embeds Goku's fighting style into his body, an image of Goku flashes over Black, just like how an image of Super Saiyan God/Super Saiyan overlaps Goku in the opening before he transform.
* OptOut: Gohan initially wanted to be a contestant for the tournament since he wanted to test himself, but had to decline once learns that he has a conference on the day of the tournament.
* OrgasmicallyDelicious:
** Whis has this reaction a lot while trying Earth food.
** Both Champa and Vados react this way when they're eating the instant ramen noodles from Earth.
* OrangeBlueContrast: Goku and Jiren during the Tournament Of Power. Goku, especially while in Ultra Instinct, has a blue aura, while Jiren's is reddish orange.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Apparently, as U7 Supreme Kai reveals, [[spoiler: Whis and Vados are a type of angel who only functions as long as their God of Destruction is alive]].
* OurGodsAreDifferent: There are many different types of gods in the ''Dragon Ball'' universe. There are gods like Dende who watch over a planet and are appointed to the position, so they're not born gods. The Kais are the Gods of Creation who watch over mortals and guide them, as well as create new planets. They are also the only beings who are born gods, but must be appointed to positions of authority over specific regions. Their counterparts are the Gods of Destruction, whose job it is to destroy planets to make room for new ones and they can freely interact with mortals and even kill them. The series hasn't explained where they come from, but has implied they are appointed from mortal stock, like the planet guardians, and additional materials state that Kais are [[PlantPerson grown in trees]]. The person who runs all of this is Zen'o who rules the entire multiverse and can destroy it in an instant.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: The Trio De Dangers from Universe 9 are a trio of three brothers who are werewolves with one of them having the ability to poison people with his breath and is also able to imbue his attacks with said poison by breathing on his fists, and the eldest brother having an EnergyAbsorption ability. They are also the strongest fighters from their universe.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring:
** When Pan goes missing in Episode 43, everyone is seriously worried. Goku is particularly hit hard since, due to a temporary ki failure, he can't immediately solve the problem as usual.
** Played straight when Goku Black maliciously rubs in Goku's face that after [[spoiler:stealing his body in another timeline]], he proceeded to murder that timeline's [[spoiler:Goku, Chichi, and Goten]]. Goku goes ''[[PapaWolf berserk]]'' and [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge pummels Black into the ground]] once he hears this, and continues to maintain his anger over it even once he mostly calms down - something that's pretty rare for Goku.
* OutOfGenreExperience:
** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] manages be this since while [[spoiler: Goku Black and Future Zamasu were godly beings]], they were still both trained martial artists and fought like one. Merged Zamasu on the other hands fights like a RPG final boss with him summoning a GuardianEntity that shoots lightning, raining down energy blasts, and throwing spears that explode when they hit the ground. This is not even getting into his [[OutsideContextProblem final form]] that is straight out of a CosmicHorrorStory.
** The ''Manga/DrSlump'' crossover turned ''Super'' into a gag anime complete with BreakingTheFourthWall, toon physics, and a surreal plot.
* OutsideContextProblem:
** There have been gods introduced in the series. However, all of them have been benevolent and eventually surpassed by the Saiyans outside of Trunks and Goten. Then, there is Beerus who can only be described as the [[TopGod god of gods]]. Even the strongest Supreme Kai was only equal with Majin Buu and Beerus is so much more powerful that he makes Super Saiyan 3 Goku look like an insect. Even Goku becoming a god himself isn't enough to slow him down. Not since Frieza have there been such a vast tier difference between the heroes and the villain. On top of that, his servant Whis is even stronger, and both have {{Evil Twin}}s from Universe 6 who are just as strong as their counterparts.
** Little is known about [[spoiler: Goku Black's]] motives or where he comes from. He just appeared one day and started slaughtering humanity in the name of 'justice'. He also appears to grow stronger from fighting and getting injured. On top of that, he has [[MagicalAccessory accessories]] only used by the Kais like a Potara earring and a Time Ring. Even Beerus and Whis are confused by what [[spoiler: Goku Black]] is, and Whis suspects that he's a creation of the Super Dragon Balls. A large part of the Future Trunks Saga is devoted to unveiling who or what Black is, how he relates to Zamasu, and how he's connected to Goku. TheReveal clears his identity and motives up, while showing just how much this trope he truly was. [[spoiler:He's not only from another universe entirely, something Trunks didn't even know ''existed'' when he showed up, he's not even from the same ''timeline'' as ''any'' of the heroes at this point]].
** Rare heroic invoked example: Trunks deliberately journeyed outside his context to bring Goku and Vegeta to his future, because their future iterations are long dead, so they are this to Black, who moved to this timeline, and [[spoiler: Future Zamasu]], who was native to it.
** [[spoiler: Zamasu is from Universe 10, therefore ''no one'' even knew he ''existed'' except for Beerus and Whis, much less the monster he'd eventually become. Future Trunks didn't even know there ''was'' a multiverse before the future was attacked by Black. In addition, because up until then everyone had thought Black and Zamasu were the same person if there was any connection at all, the heroes are completely ''blindsided'' when Future Zamasu descends from the sky and joins his partner]].
** [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's]] final form is this, as not only did anyone expect it, no one knows how to ''fight'' him. While Buu was an EldritchAbomination, [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu's]] final form is a [[spoiler: Lovecraftian monstrosity that ''becomes'' the multiverse to the point he begins breaking through into other timelines. At least Buu could be ''fought'', Zamasu at this point ''can't''. After all, how do you fight the ''multiverse itself''?]]
* OutsideGenreFoe: Arale from ''Manga/DrSlump'' is this. She's a gag manga character and therefore runs on RuleOfFunny and ToonPhysics. Vegeta outright states fighting her like a battle manga character is completely useless since she's a borderline RealityWarper.
* OvershadowedByAwesome:
** Despite all the training Goku and Vegeta have done and [[TookALevelInBadass have become much stronger from it]], they are still below Beerus and Champa, and they can't even comprehend [[spoiler: Whis and Vados' strength]].
** Gohan gets this thanks to his InUniverse BadassDecay, which prevents him from accessing his Ultimate form. He is still very powerful and easily beats Captain Ginyu even after he unleashes Tagoma's body full power. Against Frieza, however, he is shot full of holes and would have died if Piccolo hadn't shielded him. To add further salt to the wound, even if Gohan had trained and maintain his power, he still would have been little match against the freshly trained Frieza.
** Hit becomes this to Vegeta. Despite Vegeta wiping out three of the five fighters in U6, he gets completely trashed by Hit who is barely trying. Then Goku fights Hit and does better than him in ''his base form'' because he has information about Hit's ability. Goku also forces Hit to improve for the first time in his life to keep up and [[SerialEscalation the match only goes up from there]].
** This is the primary problem with the fighters from Universe 6, outside of Magetta and Hit. They are all very powerful badasses who far surpass the levels seen in the Buu Saga, but they can't keep up with Goku and Vegeta who have been through TrainingFromHell thanks to Whis and have been enhanced through god energy:
*** Botamo is one of the strongest warriors from U6 since he was hand chosen by Vados. His character biography states that he is very proud of his strength and often walks around with a smug smirk. He is still far below Goku who beats him without even transforming or fighting seriously. Although, he still gives Goku some trouble thanks to his ability to transfer all damage to another dimension and Goku muses that he may have lost in a traditional fight.
*** Frost is stronger than Frieza in his true form even after he went through four months of TrainingFromHell. However, he doesn't have an [[SuperMode ultimate form]] like Frieza and is utterly outmatched against Goku's golden Super Saiyan form.
*** Cabba is an extremely strong fighter who can fight evenly against Vegeta in his base form. Keep in mind that Vegeta's base far surpasses Ultimate Gohan at his absolute best before the Universal Survival Saga. He is, however, no match against a Super Saiyan….until he ascends himself thanks to Vegeta being a TricksterMentor and forces him to reach his RageBreakingPoint. He then gets one-shotted once Vegeta goes Super Saiyan Blue to show the bridge Cabba needs to cross if he wants to surpass him.
** This is a problem with Future Trunks. He is very strong and single-handily kills Dabura and Babidi in his time before they could unleash Majin Buu. Before then, he wipes out all the androids including Imperfect Cell. With [[spoiler: Goku Black]], Trunks is knocked around like a little kid and can't hurt Black even with [[spoiler: Super Saiyan 2]]. When he returns to the past and learns that Goku and Vegeta have been fighting against gods, he feels unneeded since everyone's stronger than him. It takes Vegeta given him a firm beating and tongue-lashing before he resolves himself to become stronger than Black and Vegeta. This problem becomes {{Downplayed}} once Trunks gets his Super Saiyan Rage form which puts on the level of Goku and Vegeta.
** Poor Universe 9 gets hit by this hard. Much like Universe 6, the Trio De Dangers are very strong with Lavenda and Bergamo particularly having unique abilities that can disable or match the strongest fighters in Universe 7. However, the power difference between Buu, Gohan, and Goku is just too much for them to overcome. Lavenda did the best out of the three by getting a tied match with Gohan.
* OxymoronicBeing: [[spoiler: Merged Zamasu]] in two ways:
** He's essentially an immortal who is partially mortal. [[spoiler: It's for this reason that his immortality winds up being compromised, and makes him capable of being damaged.]]
** He's a fusion, that much is true. But the weird thing is that he's basically the fusion of [[spoiler: ''the exact same being'', as Goku Black is really just Zamasu in Goku's body.]]
