''Scholastic Books: Spellbinding Battles'' is a Platform/NintendoSwitch video game that only exists in Tropers/{{Nexus}}' head. It's a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover TagTeam PlatformFighter using characters from various children's and YA books published by Scholastic.[[note]] When this troper first came up with this idea, he wasn't aware that some of these book series' have different publishers in different countries. This troper is American, so the game's representation consist of book series' published by Scholastic's U.S. branch.[[/note]]

Plays similarly to ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' in the sense that up to four players fight on multi-tiered battlefields on a 2-D plane, with the goal of knocking the other combatants off the stage.[[note]] At first, the game was going to have an HP system partly to differentiate it from ''Smash'', but I changed my mind later on. With the fighting being more slapstick in nature, and with the characters getting ringed out instead of getting killed, it seemed more acceptable to include characters [[Literature/TheHungerGames from]] [[Literature/TheUnderlandChronicles certain]] [[Literature/{{Animorphs}} series]] into the game without undermining [[WarIsHell their series' themes.]][[/note]] The game also has items that periodically drop during a match and stage hazards to watch out for. Unlike ''Smash Bros'', however, this game will have a 3v3 tag team system in which players can choose up to three fighters and then switch between them on the fly during battle, similar to ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom2'' and ''VideoGame/PowerRangersBattleForTheGrid''. This means that any given match can have up to 12 fighters in it, three each for four players.

When fighters deal or receive damage, a meter fills up and, when full, will allow the character to perform their ultimate attack called a Spellbinding Climax. If all three fighters on a team fill up their individual meters, the team will be able to perform an even more powerful attack called an Ultimate Spellbinding Climax, [[spoiler: summoning [[Literature/CliffordTheBigRedDog Clifford the Big Red Dog]] to "[[DoesntKnowHisOwnStrength play]]" with the opposition so devastatingly that it's more-or-less a guarenteed KO if it connects.]] These super meters are disabled during boss battles, though.

In addition to three fighters, players can also have an AssistCharacter that can be used during a battle. During gameplay, your assist is always displayed somewhere on the screen. When activated, your assist will momentarily appear in front of your character and (depending on the assist) will either do an attack, heal you, or help you out in some other way, before disappearing. When an assist is used, it can't be used again until its "cool-down period" ends, which is indicated by the "Wait Bars" on display below the Assist on the screen. Using Assists can be risky, though. If your Assist is hit by an attack while it is out, you will be "Assist Blocked" and you won't be able to use it for awhile. Just like in ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Dissidia Duodecim]]'', if you use an assist while you are getting comboed, you will temporarily sacrifice your assist as it is instantly Assist Blocked, in exchange of you dropping out of the combo.

There are also Character Cards you can collect, each featuring a character from throughout Scholastic's publications. You can assign them to your fighters, granting them some type of passive power-up, skill, or resistance, similar to Spirits in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' or how Help Komas worked in ''[[VideoGame/JumpSuperStars Jump Ultimate Stars.]]'' Also like in ''Smash Ultimate'', you collect these cards by defeating them in battles similar to Spirit Battles, with the [[AssetActor playable fighters as stand-ins for the characters]] and rulesets invoking [[MythologyGag references to the character's origins]]. Character Card Battles are fought in the game's Story Mode, which is similar to one present in ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Dissidia Duodecim]]'' in the sense that you play through a story, with your team of characters traveling through a world map and "dungeons", except the Manikin battles are replaced with Character Card Battles.

Game modes include Versus Mode (both local and online), Arcade Mode, Story Mode, Practice Mode, Options Menu, and Chronicles (similar to SSB's Masterpieces, this will let you read sample chapters of the books the characters originated from.)

----
!!This game provides examples of:

* AgonyBeam: Voldemort can use the Cruciatus Curse.
* {{Animorphism}}: [[SarcasmMode Take a wild guess on]] [[TropeNamer which characters can do this.]] More specifically, for each Animorph, they morph into an animal, do some type of attack, and quickly demorphs for their special moves and supers. Cassie can even partially morph parts of her body for at least some of her normal attacks.
** Of course, Nory can do a MixAndMatchCritters version of this.
** The Masked Mutant can transform into a leopard for a special move and a giant octopus for his Spellbinding Climax.
** For one of Ms. Frizzle's attacks, The Bus grows a bear paw and swipes.
** As a reference to the ending to ''My Hairiest Adventure'', for Lizzy's dash attack she [[spoiler: turns out to be a dog [[Blog/BloggerBeware or something.]]]]
* ArrowsOnFire: For one of his special moves, Gale can fire incendiary arrows from his crossbow. These arrows can also stick to surfaces for awhile before despawning, complimenting his TrapMaster playstyle.
** For her Spellbinding Climax, Katniss will fire an explosive arrow that causes a huge Mockingjay-shaped explosion on impact.
* AscendedMeme: Jake's Forward Smash is him using the same punch as when he [[https://www.reddit.com/r/Animorphs/comments/j7v0cz/jake_disagrees_with_marco_meme_template/ disagreed with Marco.]]
* AssistCharacter: Aside from the game mechanic described above, some characters use other characters as part of their normal moveset. And this probably isn't even a full list.
** Lizzy uses various ''Goosebumps'' monsters in some of her attacks, such as throwing a Lanx at opponents or attacking with a Mummy's Hand.
** For Mem's Spellbinding Climax, several other girls from the ''Dear America'' series appear as we see a montage of various events in American history. This somehow hurts the other fighters a lot.
** Snow can summon Peacekeepers to attack on his behalf.
** Claerwen, Charlie Bone's wand, flies beside him in its' moth form at all times, aiding him in both special moves and melee attacks.
** Kristy's dog, Shannon, assists her in one of her Special Moves.
** Voldemort has Nagini hidden in his sleeve, who can lunge out and bite people.
** George & Harold use Sulu in their battle intro and Up Special. In addition, for their Spellbinding Climax, they summon some of their various creations, including Super Diaper Baby, Diaper Dog, Dog Man, Cat Kid, and Captain Underpants himself and they all do a combination attack on the opposition, even if they're fighting against Captain Underpants and/or Dog Man.
** As a NonActionGuy, Fone Bone has numerous characters that he can call in to help him fight, including Phoney Bone (both as himself and a dreamed up version of him dressed as [[Literature/MobyDick Captain Ahab]]), "The Mystery Cow", Bartleby, and Ted (or rather, [[BigBrotherInstinct Ted's brother]], if Ted [[CounterAttack happens to get attacked]]). The Great Red Dragon shows up for Fone Bone's Spellbinding Climax.
** For one of his special moves, Draco summons Crabbe & Goyle.
** For her Spellbinding Climax, Claudia summons Janine, who spits out math equations that somehow severly hurt the other fighters.
** The Masked Mutant can place the Magnificent Molecule Man as a sentry to grab foes. Once he does, the Magnificent Molecule Man will stretch his arms up high and slam them into the ground. However, he can be attacked and defeated.
** For her Spellbinding Climax, Blue summons Gansey and powers him up while Gansey in turn [[spoiler: makes a flock of ravens appear and attack.]]
** For a special move, Mr. Wolf can pull out and release Mr. Piranha, freeing him to bite while swimming forward in the air. If he bites a fighter from behind, it does extra damage.
** For one of his special moves, Lief uses the Topaz Gem to summon the spirit of [[HeroicLineage Adin]] to aid him.
* AttackReflector: Fighters with these include Harry Potter, Ron, Hermione, Snape, Marco, David, Lizzy, Snow, Kristy, Ms. Frizzle, Lief, Arthur, Matthew, and Blue.
* BackbenchhittingAttack: If a fighter gets hit by an Ultimate Spellbinding Climax, not only will they get instantly KO'd, but any of their remaining tagged out teammates will also take damage.
* BattleIntro: Each fighter will have an intro animation before the fight starts, usually with some sort of throwback to the character's original series. For example, the Animorphs will fly onto the stage, each using their signature flight morphs, and a platform will raise Katniss and Peeta onto the stage from underground.
* TheBeastmaster: Rollan, as Essix assists him for most of his moves.
** Ares also aids Gregor in battle, but not to the same extent as the above.
** Hermione can summon birds and order them to attack, just like what she did to Ron once.
** For his Spellbinding Climax, Voldemort calls forth the Basilisk (with its eyes already gouged out by Fawkes) to bite and poison his foes. If the opponent is above 100% damage, Voldemort will then finish them off with a Killing Curse.
** Lucy Gray uses snakes prominently in her moveset. She also uses flocks of mockingjays to completely conceal herself as she quickly moves around, essentially acting as a teleport move.
** Snow can summon jabberjays to attack with [[SonicScream Sonic Screams]].
** Monster Blood itself ''is'' the beast, as its BattleIntro shows Sarabeth appear in the background and bringing it to life before disappearing, implying that she's controlling Monster Blood from off stage similarly to Pokemon Trainer. In the game's Story Mode, she also serves as Monster Blood's handler and is even the one controlled when playing as Monster Blood on the Story Mode's overworld map.
* BossRush: After you beat Story Mode, it will unlock a mode where you can battle each of the Story Mode bosses one after the other.
* CarFu: Ron summons the Flying Ford Anglia to fly into opponents for his Spellbinding Climax. Also, technically Ms. Frizzle's entire moveset.
* CarryABigStick: For his Forward Smash attack, Snow swings a two-by-four downward in front of him.
* CastFromHitPoints: Ron has a special move in which he attempts a spell with his former (broken) wand. The spell always misfires, causing a powerful explosion; so powerful that Ron will also take damage from it. Ron also takes damage from his Smash Attack equivalents.
** Fone Bone's counter also deals damage and knockback to Fone Bone himself. However, both fighters will get knocked straight downward, meaning that if Fone Bone counters someone offstage, [[TakingYouWithMe he can possibly KO both himself and an opponent.]] However, the knockback of the counter will likely KO Fone Bone before the other fighter.
** Both Dan and Amy's Spellbinding Climaxes will also cause self-damage if they successfully land, since they both [[spoiler: drink the Master Serum before executing their Supers. They drink the Serum Antidote right afterwards, however, so they won't die from using it.]]
* CastHerd: In the game's Story Mode, the heroes, after the prologue, are split into groups of 5, each with their own objectives before converging back together in the final battle. A ''very rough'' idea of the groups are as followed:
** Harry Potter, Lief, Arthur, Claudia, Rollan & Essix
** Katniss, Peeta, Cassie, Gregor, and Matthew
** Jake, Gale, Jaron, Mr. Wolf, and Dog Man
** Amy, Hermione, Rachel, Lucy Gray, and Lizzy
** Marco, Ron, David Levin, Fone Bone, and Dan
** Dumbledore, Sandry, Ms. Frizzle, Haymitch, and Captain Underpants
** Blue, Nory, Charlie Bone, Callum, and Aster
** Kristy, Mem, Meggie, [=WordGirl=], George & Harold
** The remaining playable characters, Voldemort, Draco, Slappy, Haunted Mask, Monster Blood, Arragotus, Masked Mutant, David, and Snow are all villains opposing the heroes, brought together by a mysterious figure, who turns out to be [[spoiler: Count Morbida]]. Snape and Ian are also fighting on their side [[spoiler: except Snape is a DoubleAgent and Ian fairly quickly pulls a HeelFaceTurn.]] All of these characters will eventually [[EnemyMine join your side]] and become playable [[EleventhHourRanger late in the game]], aside from [[spoiler: Count Morbida]], whom you'll need to beat the Story Mode entirely in order to unlock.
*** A Story Mode expansion comes with the Fighter's Pass characters, in which Lyra, Hester, Clary, Artemis, and Percy work together in opposition of Angelica, but she too ends up in an EnemyMine situation with the others.
* ChameleonCamouflage: For one of his special moves, Peeta can blend into his surroundings for a few seconds, making it hard, but not impossible, to see him. He can move around during this time, and if he comes in contact with another fighter, he will grab them and stab them with his machete. If Peeta's successfully hit during this move, however, he's instantly rendered visible, made all the worse by this move's significant cooldown time.
* CharacterRosterGlobalWarming: Averted, at least compared to most examples, as can be seen below.
* CircleOfFriendship: For Sandry's Spellbinding Climax, Tris, Daja, and Briar appear and the four of them get into a circle, infusing Sandry's thread circle with their respective power. Unlike in the actual books, however, there ''will'' be a visible magical beam that attacks the opposition.
* ComebackMechanic: Just like in ''Smash'', there will be a Rage mechanic whenever a fighter is at high percentage. Unlike in ''Smash'', however, Rage increases attack power but not knockback, rather than vice versa. Also, Rage isn't gradual; instead activating in full when a fighter reaches 100 percent damage. The effects of Rage are greater if you lose a team member, and it's even more pronounced if you lose both team members.
** Gregor has a [[TheBerserker rage meter]] that increases whenever he takes damage. When it fills up, he temporarily becomes [[LightningBruiser faster and more powerful]].
* CompetitiveBalance: The tentative proposed play styles of the characters on the base roster, though some characters fall under multiple archetypes.
** FragileSpeedster: Slappy, Cassie, Dan, Haymitch, Dog Man, [=WordGirl=]
** GlassCannon: Dumbledore, Rachel, Matthew, Fone Bone, Callum, Nory
** JackOfAllStats: Harry Potter, Ron, Jake, Mr. Wolf
** LongRangeFighter (projectile users): Katniss, Hermione, Draco, Charlie Bone, Aster, Meggie, Marco
** LongRangeFighter (long melee reach): Lief, Gregor, David Levin, Arthur, Jaron, Masked Mutant
** MagikarpPower: Amy
** MightyGlacier: Voldemort, Monster Blood, Arragotus, David, Peeta, Captain Underpants, Ms. Frizzle
** PuppetFighter: Rollan & Essix, George & Harold
** StanceSystem: Sandry
** StoneWall: Mem, Snow, Snape
** SupportPartyMember: Kristy, Claudia, Ian, Blue
** TrapMaster: Haunted Mask, Lizzy, Lucy Gray, Gale, [[spoiler: Count Morbida]]
* CompositeCharacter: All of Lizzy's attacks utilize various objects or monsters from throughout the Goosebumps series (Mummy's Hand, the Evil Camera, the Shrunken Head, etc.), making her more of a stand-in for Goosebumps main characters in general.
** Slappy can strangle people, which is something more in line of what his predecessor, Mr. Wood, would do.
** The Haunted Mask throws cursed pumpkins for a projectile attack, referencing The Grave-Master.
** Monster Blood throws drops of Blue Monster Blood for a projectile attack. It can also bite enemies in a similar manner as Cuddles the Hamster, and even grow plant vines out of itself to attack (referencing the ivy plants that consumed Monster Blood in ''Monster Blood for Breakfast.'')
** Arragotus too, will have moves derived from other ancient Egyptian characters from throughout the Goosebumps series. For example, he can encase himself in amber, in reference to Nila Rahmad [[spoiler:in her scarab form]] as well as surround himself with a flock of bats from ''Who's Your Mummy?''
** In terms of moveset, David is a composite between himself and the protagonist of the second ''Alternamorphs'' book, who's pretty much an {{Expy}} of David anyway.
** [[MemeticMutation For his Neutral Special, Ian wields a gun.]] His sister's poison dart gun, to be more precise.
** Some of Meggie's summons were done by her father in her home series, though she's certainly capable of doing the same since they're both Silvertongues.
** For his side special, Voldemort dashes forward and grabs people by the throat, like what Professor Quirrell does to Harry at the climax of the first Harry Potter book. The move is pretty similar to Ganondorf's Flame Choke.
** One of David Levin's special moves is the upward swing Galahad used to slice in half a sapling thrown at him by Loki. Also, his Spellbinding Climax is based on when April used Galahad's sword to wound Hel.
** Gale uses remote mines for one of his special moves, something he's never used in the series, though some District 7 citizens used them in one of the movies.
** Angelica can use spells that other members of the Fear family did, such as wolf transformations and soul sucking.
* ConfusionFu: For her Side Special, [=WordGirl=] can speed forward quickly, similarly to [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Fox Illusion.]] For her Up Special, she can dart in the air in any direction up to two times, similarly to Pikachu's Quick Attack. Both attacks have similar start-up frames, making it harder for opponents to predict which move she's doing.
* CounterAttack: Fighters with counter attacks include David Levin, Blue, Rollan (but only when Essix is in passive state), Lief, Jaron, Fone Bone, Gregor, Voldemort, Draco, Snape (who uses Legilimency to read the opponent's mind and see their next move), and Matthew (whose ability to see visions of the future is translated to outright CombatClairvoyance in this game.)
** Uniquely, Sandry has, more or less, a counter that only activates when she's [[AttackReflector hit by a projectile.]] She can [[SemanticSuperpower weave incoming projectiles into threads]] and swing them forward for a one-time use attack.
* CrisisCrossover: After their world's cross over, heroes from various book series' (and [[WesternAnimation/WordGirl one cartoon series]]) work together to fight against a VillainTeamUp ultimately led by [[spoiler: Count Morbida]].
* CrossoverVillainInChief: [[spoiler: Count Morbida leads the other villains in the game's Story Mode. He may seem like an odd choice from an in-universe perspective, but out-of-universe, he's an old (publication wise, he's by far the oldest playable character in the roster), [[PutOnABus long forgotten]] character that was nevertheless a mascot of something critically important to the company's history, making his role more appropriate.]]
* DanceBattler: A couple of Mem's moves involve jigging.
** Marco breakdances for some of his attacks.
** Most, if not all of Lucy Gray's normal attacks involve dancing in some way.
* DeathOrGloryAttack: For one of his special moves, Aster will pull out a silver bowl with water in it and begin scrying the location of his opponent. After a few seconds, the water will start glowing, revealing their location to Aster. Afterwards, he will open up a portal using a magical dagger and fire a blast of magic through it. The other side of the portal appears wherever the enemy is and they're hit by the blast of magic, which can hit them from anywhere on the stage and it'll even track them if they're currently invisible. The main drawback of this move, however, is that it takes a ''long'' time to complete the move, leaving Aster vulnerable to getting attacked before he can finish the move. Also, the move can still be blocked or dodged if timed just right.
** The Ultimate Spellbinding Climax is this, as upon activation, your character rushes forward at blinding speed. If it connects with an opponent, the resulting attack will almost certainly take them out, but if it misses, not only will you waste the super meters of all three fighters on your team, but your currently controlled fighter will SD themselves by flying straight into the blast zone.
* DemographicDissonantCrossover: Characters from series' aimed at preschoolers and early elementary school kids, such as [=WordGirl=] and Ms. Frizzle, are alongside characters from YA novels aimed at teens and above known for their extreme violence and realistic depictions of war (such as ''Animorphs'', ''Everworld'', and ''The Hunger Games''), and everything in between. Also, [[SirSwearsALot Ronan]] is an Assist in this game.
* DifficultButAwesome: Dumbledore's moveset is hard to get used to, but a force to be reckoned with if mastered.
** [[spoiler: Count Morbida qualifies even more so, especially since he has more special moves than any other fighter, some of which are only accessible by doing traditional fighting game special move inputs.]]
* DittoFighter: Despite having the canonical ability of doing so, averted with the Animorphs since they generally have moral objections to acquiring and morphing sapient creatures without their permission. ''David'', however, has no such moral qualms, so he can grab other fighters, acquire them, and temporarily morph into them. [[MST3KMantra Just don't think too hard about him morphing objects (like Slappy, Monster Blood, and the Magic School Bus), morphing copies of weapons from any weapon-wielding fighter, morphing into another Animorph and then morphing while he's already in a morph, and other such shenanigens.]]
* TheDogBitesBack: After you defeat the BigBad in the Story Mode, [[spoiler: Count Morbida's pet, Transylvester (coincidentally(?), a red dog), turns on his master due to neglect and/or abuse, ending with him eating Morbida and taking his power. This makes the pair a {{Foil}} to the relationship between Emily Elizabeth and Clifford.]]
* DrunkenMaster: Haymitch constantly sways back and forth while fighting. He can even weave backward and counterattack with a forward knife slash.
* DualWielding: Gregor will fight with both a sword and Solovet's dagger.
** Ron dual-wield wands, using both his original, hand-me-down wand that broke and his replacement wand.
** Arthur can dual-wield with the Clock Sword, as he can split it into two and reassemble it.
* EdibleAmmunition: Claudia can throw jawbreakers as projectiles, which, upon impact, break into small pieces that can be consumed to recover a very small amount of health.
* EnergyAbsorption: Both Blue and Haunted Mask have this in different ways. In Blue's case, she can absorb an attack, powering up her next move. As for Haunted Mask, she has a special move where she holds out Carly Beth's sculptured head on a broomstick. If the head is attacked, it's destroyed, healing the Haunted Mask.
** Arthur can use the Fifth Key to steal a bit of super meter from other fighters.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The mask possessing Carly Beth Caldwell is only referred to as The Haunted Mask, and though its "species" name is The Unloved, it has no proper name.
* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler: In a way, the FinalBoss serves as one to Clifford.]]
* EvilIsBigger: Most of the playable villains are bigger and heavier than their heroic nemeses, though Slappy is an exception to this. In fact, he's the smallest and lightest fighter in the entire roster.
* ExpyCoexistence: Charlie Bone, Callum, Nory, and even Percy Jackson can fight alongside and/or against Harry Potter. The same goes for Jake and David Levin.
* ExtremityExtremist: Monster Blood ''doesn't even have any legs to kick with.'' It merely has Kirby-like stubs for arms to attack with.
** Meggie is sort of one too. She's always carrying a book with her in battle, and she's too much of a {{Bookworm}} to attack with the book itself, so her normal moves [[KickChick mostly consist of kicks.]]
** Arragotus doesn't kick at all, instead using his arms to punch, slap, claw, or pound for his normal moves.
* EyeBeams: Slappy can eye laser people with one of his special moves.
* FightingClown: Captain Underpants, George & Harold, Dog Man, Mr. Wolf, Fone Bone, Ms. Frizzle, Kristy, Claudia, Mem, and Monster Blood are all examples of this.
* ForcedSleep: Kristy's Spellbinding Climax is...knocking grounded close to mid ranged opponents asleep (or rather, putting her "sitting charges" to bed), allowing her to score a free hit on the opposition. Every successful hit with this move will also net the player extra in-game currency.
* ForcedTransformation: Slappy's Spellbinding Climax has him transform his opponent(s) into ventriloquist dummy versions of themselves (unless if it's used on [[MirrorMatch Slappy himself]], [[ShapedLikeItself who will merely shrug]]) before blasting them away with electricity from his fingers.
* FormulaWithATwist: The intent of this game, by adding a TagTeam mechanic in a PlatformFighter.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: While the other ''Harry Potter'' fighters have normal moves that consist of using short-ranged spells, wand flicks and pokes, FullContactMagic and the like, many of Ron's normal moves is just him doing normal punches with his fists.
* TheGrappler: Peeta has a moveset geared towards this. After all, he did place second in a District 12 wrestling contest.
* GroinAttack: Snow's pummel attack has him knee the opponent in the crotch area.
* GuestFighter: [=WordGirl=] could arguably count, as she's from a cartoon instead of a book series, though Scholastic does own the character.
** Also debatably Fone Bone, as he's originally from a self-published comic book series, though Scholastic did publish the reissues.
** All of the DLC characters count in some way or another.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: Kristy uses her baseball skills for a fair amount of her moves.
** Also, Ron can smack down airborne opponents and knockback projectiles, referencing his skills as a Keeper.
** Some of Jake's regular attacks consist of him pulling off various basketball maneuvers.
* ImmuneToFlinching: Monster Blood, Arragotus, and Ms. Frizzle[[note]] as long as the Bus is hit and not Frizzle herself [[/note]] can power through weaker attacks without flinching as long as they're at lower percentages.
** Voldemort has a passive magical shield erected around himself, granting him his own unique Super Armor. The shield will even slowly regenerate after taking damage. However, it will break if it takes too much damage, leaving Voldemort vulnerable to attack, so it shouldn't be relied on too heavily.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Quite of a few of them. And it's probably not even a complete list.
** As mentioned above, Lizzy's attacks utilize various objects or monsters from throughout the Goosebumps series (Mummy's Hand, the Evil Camera, the Shrunken Head, etc.)
** Some of Kristy's moves use objects such as a thermometer, a rag doll, and a flashlight.
** Mem fights using objects such as a feather pin, a bucket, a rake, scorched peas, and more. Basically, anything Mem used during ''A Journey to the New World'' is fair game for her moveset.
** Of course, Sandry's primary method of attack is using her magic to control ''[[HeartIsAnAwesomePower thread.]]''
** Captain Underpants uses a plunger for a special move and, of course, uses underwear for other attacks in his moveset.
** As mentioned above, Ms. Frizzle drives the Bus transformed into a mech, and all of her attacks either utilize scientific tools such as telescopes and microscopes or reference various scientific subjects covered throughout the series, including some rather absurd weapons like magnets, see-saws, light bulbs, and even giant white blood cells.
** Dog Man fights using bones, both to throw as projectiles and to use as nunchuks. He can also use an umbrella for a recovery that slows his aerial descent.
** George & Harold's weapons include wooden planks, skateboards, and even a copier.
** Claudia's weapons include pencils, paintbrushes, pots, easels, skis, and even an ugly baby parade float.
* ISurrenderSuckers: Jaron employs this as a counterattack.
* KamehameHadoken: Harry's Spellbinding Climax is firing an Expelliarmus in this fashion. Of course, it also causes opponents to drop any item that they're carrying.
* KidHero: The roster has a lot of these, given that the main character's of children's books are usually children.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: Jaron's ''name'' counts as one, as it spoils a major plot twist from the first book of his series.
** David's mere inclusion counts as one, [[spoiler: firstly because it spoils that a 7th Animorph even exists and secondly that said Animorph becomes a SixthRangerTraitor.]]
** Blue's Spellbinding Climax spoils Gansey's power that's only revealed later on.
* LethalJokeCharacter: For a few of Ron's moves, he uses his original (broken) wand, but it misfires, doing damage to Ron himself. These moves also have high end lag. However, they're devastatingly powerful if they connect.
* LivingDistantAncestor: Possibly, as [[spoiler: 16-year-old Lucy Gray fights alongside her possible granddaughter or cousin, twice removed, Katniss.]] That is, if you subscribe to those theories.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: While the Animorph's morphing may count in general, Rachel's Up Special takes the cake, as her back morphs into a crocodile, dragging her upward as it tries to bite anyone above her.
* MandatoryTwistEnding: As a reference to the traditional ''Goosebumps'' twist ending, misfortune befalls upon Lizzy even during her victory animation.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: For one of her special moves, Blue can power up any assist character she summons during the duration of the move. This same move also slowly increases the super meter of her teammates.
** Gregor has a [[TheBerserker rage meter]] that increases whenever he takes damage. When it fills up, he temporarily becomes [[LightningBruiser faster and more powerful]].
** Similar to [[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 Phoenix Wright]], Amy can pick up Clues and can either use them for attacks (or buffs, depending on the Clue), or throw them away (on its own an attack option) to free up space to pick up another Clue. She'll need to do the latter if she picks up a False Clue, however, because if she tries to use a False Clue, it'll do nothing and she'll merely look dumbfounded, leaving herself wide open to attack.
** Dan has a special move similar to Wii Fit Trainer's Deep Breathing. If timed correctly, he'll hold his breath and any status effects he's currently inflicted by will last longer, or he'll gain one that'll last longer. However, this applies to both buffs and nerfs. Also, this will not apply to any new status effects he's inficted with during the move's duration.
** Ian can swipe a Clue from other fighters, temporarily debuffing them in the process.
** All of Callum's moves correspond to one of the four classical elements, with each element associated with a different input direction. Because of this, Callum has four Smash Attack equivalents instead of just three.
** Lucy Gray can contaminate items by lacing them with rat poison, poisoning the next fighter who touches the item. However, this also applies to Lucy Gray herself, so players will need to keep mental track of what items they poisoned. Of course, if you're standing next to the opponent, you can just poison them directly with the rat poison instead.
** Charlie Bone can summon The Flames to become a powerful, unblockable and unreflectable projectile. However, Charlie can only use this move three times per stock before running out.
** Normally, fighters take a little extra damage and knockback when attacked from behind. Fone Bone is an exception to this, however, due to his stuffed backpack protecting his backside. Also, for one of his special moves on the ground, Fone Bone can summon Phoney Bone to grab an enemy. If he's successful, Phoney will take some of their money, increasing the player's in-game currency. However, if Phoney is successfully attacked, he'll drop ''a lot'' of money, which the player will also lose, referencing Phoney's [[GetRichQuickScheme Get Rich Quick Schemes]] always going awry due to him being too greedy to KnowWhenToFoldEm.
** Ms. Frizzle, like Bowser Jr. in ''Smash'', will take extra damage when she's attacked directly, but will take less damage if the Bus is hit instead.
** One of Kristy's specials is...cleaning up after her "charges". It doesn't do anything except increase her super gauge. Frequent use of this move will allow her to constantly use her Spellbinding Climax to put people to sleep and score free hits. However, you won't be able to quickly fill your gauge just to switch to another character and use their Spellbinding Climax since every fighter on a team has their own individual super gauge.
** Claudia can cover opponents in paint, which will cause them to take extra damage from attacks, similarly to Inkling's mechanic in ''Smash Ultimate''. Also like Inkling, Claudia has a limited supply of paint that she has to replenish constantly in battle with a move.
** If Dumbledore has a full gauge of super meter and activates his Spellbinding Climax while blocking, he will exchange it for Fawkes shedding a tear and healing him until the move is interrupted. He can only do this once per stock, though. In other words, he has a controllable version of [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIII RESURRECTION!]]
** One of Mem's specials is throwing scorched peas, which ignite and pop after a set distance. These pops will become much more powerful if thrown over lit firewood, which Mem can place on the battlefield with another special. Also, Mem can [[MyRulesAreNotYourRules pocket items or projectiles for later use]], like Villager and Isabelle in ''Smash''.
** Like Terry in ''Smash'', Haymitch is the only fighter that can immediately attack out of a spot dodge.
** The Haunted Mask fights while holding a broom adorned with Carly Beth's sculptured head. With a special move, the Haunted Mask can hold out the head, and if it's attacked, it will be destroyed, healing the Haunted Mask. However, the Haunted Mask's moves using the broom will have less range until the head respawns.
** Nory has a special move where she turns into a Skunkephant. In this form, she can absorb damage, and when she reaches her maximum capacity, she'll release a foul skunk spray that can easily push other fighters off the stage. Also, she specializes in aerial combat, just like [[Characters/KingdomHeartsSora a certain other character associated with Disney]] [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate in a Platform Fighter.]] And like Sora, Nory can cancel her Up Special into her Side Special, emphasizing her abnormalness.
** [[spoiler: Count Morbida can recover a little bit of health by simply grabbing (and biting) an opponent. He can also attack while defending by blowing up his shield. The downside to doing this, however, is that this completely depletes his shield, meaning Morbida can't block attacks for awhile, lest he'll easily get shield broken. On top of all that, he's the only fighter in the game with traditional fighting game special move inputs for some of his attacks. Finally, anyone caught in his Spellbinding Climax will be forced to answer a trivia question. Answer incorrectly, and you'll take much more damage than usual.]]
** Like the Links and Hero in ''Smash'', Percy holds a shield in front of him that can block projectiles if he's standing still. He can also heal himself with water, though he only has a limited amount per stock. On the negative side, as the son of Poseidon, Zeus' rival, Percy isn't exactly an air fighter.
* MuseumGame: You can read sample chapters as well as miscellaneous information about the various book series' represented in this game.
* MysteriousWaif: A hooded woman named Halle Brior shows up numerous times in the game's Story Mode. [[spoiler: She turns out to be [[SignificantAnagram Horribella]], [[CanonCharacterAllAlong Count Morbida's girlfriend.]]]]
* MythologyGag: The ''39 Clues'' characters and Rollan remember each other from the last time they crossed over, and they all wonder where [[Literature/InfinityRing Dak, Sera, and Riq]] are.
** Saplings will be clones of the playable fighters that you fight en mass in the game's Story Mode, similar to the Manikins in the ''Dissidia Final Fantasy'' games. They're named after the first book published by Scholastic.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted with [[Literature/{{Animorphs}} David]] and [[Literature/{{Everworld}} David Levin]], both even coming from the [[Creator/KAApplegate same]] [[Creator/MichaelGrant creators]]. Because of this, in this game, the ''Everworld'' David gets FullNameBasis.
** Averted with Fone Bone and Charlie Bone. As they're from two completely different series', not only are they not related to each other, they're not even the same species.
** Although they're alternate skins and not full-fledged playable fighters, there's also Billy Weir and Billy Deep.
** Among playable characters sharing names with assist characters, there's both Amy Cahill and Amy Fleming as well as George Beard and George Weasley. Coincidentally, both Georges are part of a duo team.
** Numerous aversions exist among the ''very'' long list of Character Cards.
* OneWingedAngel: In the Final Battle of the Story Mode, [[spoiler: Morbid Transylvester grows to a gargantuan size via ThePowerOfHate, making him a [[ShoutOut big red dog.]]]]
* PoisonousPerson: Ian's attacks are quite weak, but to make up for it, a number of them inflict a Poison status on the opponent.
** The same goes for Lucy Gray.
** Both Voldemort and David have a Spellbinding Climax that poisons in addition to doing massive damage. In David's case, he morphs into a rat and leads a horde of rats [[spoiler: summoned by Crayak]] to swarm the other fighters, spreading their filth and diseases onto them.
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: Obvious when characters like Kristy, Claudia, and Mem can stand on even grounds with wizards, superheroes, and the like. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have powerful characters like Arthur, Sandry, and Matthew being able to lose against characters like the aforementioned Kristy, Claudia, and Mem.
* PrimalStance: For his normal moves, Mr. Wolf primarily swings his claws ferally, similarly to, well, Wolf in ''Smash''. His special moves are far different from Wolf's, however.
* PuppetFighter:
** Rollan & Essix are functionally similar to [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Rosalina & Luma.]] One difference, however, is that as a special move, Essix can go into passive state, which gradually heals her but leaves Rollan to fight for himself. This happens automatically if Essix's HP runs out, and you won't be able to summon her again until her HP completely replenishes.
** George & Harold, however, are more similar to Ice Climbers, where, by default, George is the leader and Harold is the partner who follows behind him and mirrors his normal moves. Harold, however, doesn't have any special moves of his own, though he'll assist George with his if they're not desyned. As a compromise, Harold will eventually respawn if he's KO'd.
** Lyra combines this with being a stance fighter, as Pan acts as her puppet, but can transform into different animals.
* ReverseGrip: To differentiate himself from the other swordfighters, Jaron wields his sword this way.
** Haymitch also wields his knife in this manner.
** As Ron dual-wields two wands, he holds his replacement wand (that he uses primarily in his moveset) the normal way and his hand-me-down wand that broke in a reverse grip.
* TheRival: Every character has a rival matchup in Arcade Mode, where you'll have to defeat a team consisting of the rivals of the characters you picked. The rivalries, along with the reasonings for each pairing, are the following:
** Harry Potter vs. Sandry: Both are orphans that became students of magical schools. Plus, they both debuted in 1997.
** Ron vs. Dan: BewareTheSillyOnes
** Hermione vs. Cassie: Both are [[SoapboxSadie Soapbox Sadies.]]
** Dumbledore vs. Haymitch: Both are eccentric mentors with tragic backstories.
** Ms. Frizzle vs. Monster Blood: The Bus and Monster Blood are both size and shape shifters.
** Kristy vs. George & Harold: They're kids who run their own businesses.
** Captain Underpants vs. Snape: Krupp and Snape are both [[SadistTeacher Sadist Teachers.]]
** Mr. Wolf vs. Ian: Both are former villains with thievery skills who turn over a new leaf.
** Slappy vs. Snow: Both are villains who've had at least one book where they're the protagonist.
** Jaron vs. Rollan: Both are orphans and thieves.
** Lief vs. Nory: Both have strong associations with dragons.
** Draco vs. Callum: Cassandra Clare wrote ''Fanfic/TheDracoTrilogy'' and co-wrote ''The Magisterium''.
** Jake vs. Amy: Both are leaders.
** Charlie vs. Lucy Gray: Both have a background in music.
** Gregor vs. David: Both are savage fighters, but one is a [[YouDirtyRat figurative, and later on, literal rat]] and the other slays rats.
** Lizzy vs. Mem: Both are protagonists from anthology series'.
** Marco vs. Gale: Both adopted ruthless tactics against their enemies.
** Dog Man vs. Masked Mutant: Superhero vs. Supervillain that both, in-universe, originate from comic books.
** Rachel vs. David Levin: Both would rather fight than live normal lives. Also a reference to Rachel's animosity towards the other David.
** Matthew vs. Arragotus: Both hail from ancient times and came back to life in the modern era. Plus, Arragotus is probably the type of horror that Matthew would normally be fighting.
** Blue vs. Voldemort: Both just want to be special and they both tried [[spoiler: and failed]] to change their destinies.
** Claudia vs. Peeta: Both are painters.
** Katniss vs. Aster: Both are named after flowers.
** Arthur vs. The Haunted Mask: Both receive objects that grants them power, but corrupts them.
** Fone Bone vs. Meggie: Both have a deep love for literature.
** [=WordGirl=] vs. [[spoiler: Count Morbida: Both were created to educate the viewer/reader on a subject, vocabulary for [=WordGirl=] and trivia for Count Morbida, respectively.]]
** Lyra vs. Hester: Both are from dystopian novels published by Scholastic's UK branch.
** Clary vs. Angelica: Basically light vs. dark. Plus, they're from authors that already have a series represented in the base game.
** Artemis vs. Percy: Both are from books published by Disney. Also, they're both named after figures in Greek mythology.
* RuleOfSeven: Seven playable Harry Potter characters. Also, Harry, as well as everyone he's paired with in the Story Mode, excluding Claudia, are from series' that span seven books. As for Claudia, she was the sole narrator of exactly 21 main series BSC books, still making her fit in an unorthodox way.
* SeriesMascot: Harry Potter, Katniss, Jake, and Slappy all share this role. The former three are even the first characters you play as in the Story Mode (as they all have beginner friendly movesets), while the latter is the first real fighter they face off against.
* SharedSignatureMove: Although there are no {{Moveset Clone}}s in this game, not even semi-clones, there are characters who share a move with each other.
** The Golden Trio all share the same throws (where they all use Wingardium Leviosa to toss a foe around). Kristy and Claudia also have the same throws (which is them burping their adversary, as if they were a baby).
** Katniss and Lucy Gray both share a bowing taunt.
** Katniss and Gale both use bows for their Neutral Specials, but their moves still vastly differ from one another, as Katniss' version is more similar to the Link's Neutral Special, whereas Gale's is more reminiscent of Byleth's Neutral Special.
** Hermione and Dumbledore both Apparate for an Up Special, though Dumbledore's variant deals fire damage when [[TeleFrag he reappears]].
** Voldemort and Snape both fly for an Up Special, though Snape sails through the air with his arms out, making his robes look like bat wings in the process.
** Harry, Ron, and Draco all use a broomstick to ascend for an Up Special, but Ron can [[AttackReflector smack down airborne projectiles while using his]]. Draco, meanwhile, throws a Remembrall at the apex of his flight.
* {{Shotoclone}}: Harry Potter. Yes, really. He has Stupefy as a fireball attack, riding his broom as a {{Shoryuken}}, and casts Lumos as a SpinAttack, more-or-less functioning similarly to a HurricaneKick.
* ShoutOut: I'm at least considering giving Captain Underpants an ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros UNDERPANTS]]'' '''''[[VideoGame/FZero PUNCH!!!]]'''''
** One of Dan's aerial attacks is doing a ''[[Film/ThreeNinjas 3 Ninjas]]''-style flying kick, complete with the [[{{Kiai}} "Eye-ah!"]] For one of his Smash Attack equivalents, Dan will cup his hands and thrust his arms forward, as if he was doing a [[Manga/DragonBall Kamehameha. He also imitates a Dragon Fist for a recovery move.]] On top of all of that, Dan can even perform an [[SpinningPiledriver Izuna Drop.]]
* SidelinedProtagonistCrossover: Like with many horror [[VillainBasedFranchise villain-based franchises]] in other crossovers, ''Goosebumps'' is mostly represented by the series' villains, though Lizzy is an exception to this, as is the Haunted Mask...sort of.[[note]] Carly Beth Caldwell is the Haunted Mask's host in this game, technically meaning that both the main character ''and'' the main villain of ''The Haunted Mask'' book is playable at the same time, from a certain point of view.[[/note]]
** Downplayed with Rollan & Essix, who are part of the protagonist ensemble of ''Spirit Animals''. They are playable, yet none of the other main characters are.
** In a rather odd situation, the representative for ''The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'' is the deuteragonist, Lucy Gray, due to its protagonist, Coriolanus Snow, already being playable, albeit as his older self from the main trilogy, though his younger self is available as an alternate costume. Some of Snow's moves are derived from the prequel book, however, making him more of a mixed rep.
** Ms. Frizzle is playable (along with the titular Bus), but none of her students are.
** Among the DLC, Hester, the deuteragonist of ''Mortal Engines'', was added over Tom, the protagonist, though Tom isn't much of a fighter, making Hester the more sensible choice. Also, Angelica Fear, an antagonist, reps ''Fear Street'' instead of any protagonist.
* SmurfettePrinciple: For a fighting game, surprisingly averted. Out of 52 playable characters, approximately 17 are female. Even more so after DLC, as 4 out of 6 of the DLC character's are female.
* SpinAttack: One of Gregor's moves, the Rager Spin.
* SpotlightStealingCrossover: Harry Potter has the lion's share of overall representation, with The Hunger Games, Goosebumps, and Animorphs not too far behind.
* StanceSystem: Sandry primarily fights with a woven thread she uses like a whip, but can switch with three other threads, each woven from the magic of one of her friends. Tris' thread hits lightning fast and shocks people, but is the shortest of the threads. Daja's metallic thread hits hard and burns, but is incredibly slow. Finally, Briar's vine-like thread has the longest reach, but is the weakest. Like with Shulk's Monado Arts, Sandry can only switch to one of her friend's threads for a limited time, and after time runs out, she must wait until the cooldown period ends before she can use that thread again.
* StatusEffectPoweredAbility: Snape has a counter-curse special move. If an opponent has a negative status effect when they're hit by it, the counter-curse will cure them...while also dealing double damage and knockback.
* StatusEffects:
** Attack Up: Raises attack power. Granted by Tomas Serum.
** Defense Up: Raises defense. Granted by Body Armor.
** Speed Up: Raises running speed. Granted by Fleet Ring.
** Winged: Increases jump height, number of midair jumps, and overall aerial mobility. Granted by Wings.
** Giant: Increases your size. Granted by Chocolate Cake.
** Invisibility: Renders you invisible. Granted by Invisibility Cloak.
** Reflect: Gives you the ability to automatically reflect any projectile that hits you. Granted by Shield Hat.
** Super Armor: Attacks no longer make you flinch (but you still take damage) at the cost of some movement speed. Granted by Black Armor.
** Attack Down: Lowers your attack power. Caused by Stillwort.
** Defense Down: Lowers your defense. Caused by Old Man Mask.
** Painted: Also lowers your defense. Caused by some of Claudia's attacks.
** Speed Down: Lowers your running speed. Caused by Gum.
** Small: Shrinks your size. Caused by Purple Peanut Butter.
** Poison: Gradually lowers your health. Caused by Nightlock.
** Paralysis: Renders you immobile. Caused by Charged Vial.
** Ensnared: Also renders you immobile. Caused by Sandry's thread cocoons.
** Sleep: Renders you immobile, though it can only affect grounded fighters. Caused by one of George & Harold's special moves and Kristy's Spellbinding Climax.
** Freeze: Renders you immobile AND decreases your defense. Caused by Abominable Snowball.
** Cursed: Gradually lowers your special gauge. Caused by Lost Legend and Grool.
** Tag Blocked: Prevents you from switching out your character. Caused by getting hit by a Forced Change Attack, a universal mechanic that all fighters can do.
** Assist Blocked: Prevents you from calling out assists. Caused by Fake Doggy Doo-Doo.
** Disarmed: Prevents you from grabbing and using items. Caused by Harry Potter's Spellbinding Climax.
** Confusion: Inverts your left and right controls. Caused by Confusing Concoction.
** Controlled: You can't stop running. Caused by Yeerk.
** Slowed Down: Causes all of your actions, movement, and knockback to be slowed down, though [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-a-JGr1C2I technically, your attacks aren't any slower, they're moving at the same speed over a longer period of time.]] Caused by one of Lizzy's moves.
** (Note: Many Assists can also cause these Status Effects.)
* StylisticSuck: Captain Underpant's Spellbinding Climax, named "The Extremely Graphic Violence Spellbinding Climax", has him beat up the opposition frame-by-frame as everyone becomes crudely drawn 2-D sprites, a la the Flip-O-Rama sections of a Captain Underpants book.
* SummonMagic: Meggie is able to summon Dustfinger, [[Literature/ArabianNights Farid]], [[Literature/PeterPan Tinker Bell]], and the treasure from ''Literature/TreasureIsland'' in battle.
* SwordAndFist: Peeta fights with both his hands and feet and a large knife.
* TakeThat: Throughout the Story Mode, and as well as through their intro and victory quotes, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Dumbledore all treat Aster (who's a thinly-veiled transgender allegory) and Mr. Wolf (who cross dresses for one of his alternate costumes) with the utmost respect and acceptance, very unlike [[Creator/JKRowling their creator]]. Snape, meanwhile, does insult Aster and Mr. Wolf, like he does nearly everyone else on the roster, but even he stays away from making transphobic or anti-crossdressing remarks.
** Also George & Harold's victory quote against Hermione:
-->Gerorge & Harold (after [=KOing=] Hermione): That's for pooping all over your school and vanishing it away! What do you mean that was way before your time?
** Also this quote [[InformedJudaism Jake]] has against Harry:
-->Jake (after [=KOing=] Harry): What is up with the goblins in your universe? [[GreedyJew You know]] [[SizableSemiticNose what I]] [[SpaceJews mean.]]
* TauntButton: Each fighter has a taunt. In addition to this, Meggie has a special taunt that can only be done in the Wayless Wood in which Elinor Loredan will describe one of the opposing fighters to Meggie, a la Snake's Codecs and Palutena's Guidances. Sometimes, Daruis and Fengolio join in.
* TemporaryPlatform: Callum can create these using Earth Magic, similar to Steve in ''Smash Bros''. However, Callum doesn't need to collect resources to do this, and to balance this out, he can only place one midair rock on the stage at a time. Like with Steve, the rock disappears after a few seconds, and it disappears faster if anyone stands on them, if it's placed off-stage (and it can't be placed at all if it's close to the stage's boundaries), or if it's attacked (and it'll instantly break if Callum attacks it with an air-elemental attack.)
* ThinkingUpPortals: Like Rick in ''Multiversus'', Aster can create up to two portals that both he and his projectiles can travel through.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: Characters with special moves throwing down bombs include Katniss (dropping and detonating a Holo), Dan (throwing down a concussive grenade), Snape (throwing an Exploding Potion), and Draco (throwing a Wizard Cracker, a reference to his boss battle in the [[VideoGame/HarryPotterandtheSorcerersStone Sorcerer's Stone video game.]])
** For his Spellbinding Climax, Gale throws a bomb that explodes, and anyone caught in its radius will get blown again by the remaining pieces of the bomb, referencing [[spoiler: the bomb he came up with that Coin used to kill Primrose.]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Kristy and Claudia have a dynamic like this.
* TookALevelInBadass: In addition to characters like Kristy, Claudia, and Mem (who can now [[PowerCreepPowerSeep take on magic users, superheroes, monsters and the like despite having no canon fighting ability whatsoever]]) and the Animorphs (who, aside from Cassie, can beat people up without even morphing with their normal attacks), we have [[spoiler: Count Morbida, who goes from a [[ButtMonkey silly]] BigBadWannabe children's mascot to [[FromNobodyToNightmare a genuinely frightening threat]], so much so that he can take control of The Shadow from ''Inkheart'', now powerful enough to devour entire worlds.]]
* TruerToTheText: All characters have their appearances as described and/or illustrated in their original books, as opposed to their looks in their various film or TV adaptations. For example, Lief has black hair, Katniss has "[[AmbiguouslyBrown olive skin]]", the Harry Potter characters look closer to Mary Grandpre's illustrations than their movie or TV series actors, etc. However, some characters will have DLC alternate skins that give them their adaptation appearance.
** This also applies to everyone's characterizations. For instance, Ron ''isn't'' an AdaptationalWimp in this.
* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: Where else will you find Katniss fighting Voldemort?
* TheUnexpected: A few characters.
** Kristy Thomas and Claudia Kishi, due to both being from a non-SpeculativeFiction SliceOfLife series and having no canon fighting abilities whatsoever.
** Mem, for mostly the same reasons as Kristy and Claudia.
** Really, all of the ''Goosebumps'' characters, aside from [[BreakoutCharacter Slappy]] and [[EnsembleDarkhorse the Haunted Mask]] may qualify for one reason or another:
*** Since it's a VillainBasedFranchise, one probably wouldn't expect an actual protagonist like Lizzy.
*** Monster Blood, despite being one of the most iconic ''Goosebumps'' monsters, may count, as it's literally just a pile of green goo that grows nonstop. It's not even an individual character, as there have been multiple cans of Monster Blood throughout the ''Goosebumps'' series. Sarabeth even more so as she's a last minute villain in a single ''Goosebumps'' book and is never seen or mentioned again, aside from [[spoiler: a ''Goosebumps'' comic book]], only being here to serve as a justification as to how Monster Blood is moving around on its own.
*** The Masked Mutant debatably qualifies, as he never became a recurring villain in the books like Slappy, Haunted Mask, and Monster Blood.
*** Arragotus isn't noteworthingly iconic or popular to the series, but mummies and Egyptian themed books have always been a staple to the series, and he's the only mummy who's the main antagonist of a Goosebumps book (aside from a few short story and gamebook spinoffs). Also doesn't hurt that he's got an EvilVersusEvil thing going on with Slappy.
** David could qualify, as he was (for the most part) only present in a single arc in the original series.
** The ''other'' David may count as well, since he's from a series that was actually cancelled. Downplayed, however, due to the authors rereleasing the series.
** Debatably Rollan, as Conor is the first introduced main character, the unofficial leader of the group, and Briggan seems to be the face of the franchise, making Conor seem like the more logical choice. However, Rollan & Essix would probably work better as a PuppetFighter, plus ''Spirit Animals'' has an EnsembleCast, so all four of the main characters are equally important.
** Ms. Frizzle counts, especially since she fights while driving the Bus.
** [[spoiler: Count Morbida, due to being from a magazine that was mostly popular way back in the 70s and 80s.]]
** Out of the DLC characters, Angelica is probably the most surprising of the bunch, as she's a villain who only appears a few times in an anthology series.
* VictoryQuote: All fighters (except for [[TheVoiceless Arragotus, Dog Man, and Monster Blood]], though Sarabeth fills in for the latter) will have a few generic ones, as well as some character specific lines if they KO that character last in the match. A few examples:
-->Amy (after [=KOing=] Harry): H...''[[{{Fangirl}} Harry Potter!?]]''
-->Marco (after [=KOing=] Rachel): What's wrong? Having an off-day, [[Series/XenaWarriorPrincess Xena?]]
-->Cassie (after [=KOing=] Slappy): [[YouKnowImBlackRight That's for calling me a slave!]]
-->Aster (after [=KOing=] Harry): [[PopCulturalOsmosisFailure So]] ''[[PopCulturalOsmosisFailure that's]]'' [[PopCulturalOsmosisFailure what Charlie meant by, "riding a broomstick".]]
-->Harry (after [=KOing=] George & Harold): I heard about the 'Hairy Potty' thing. I'm not amused.
-->Callum (after [=KOing=] Draco): Did I ruin your precious clothes, Malfoy? Don't worry, I have a spare pair of [[DracoInLeatherPants leather pants.]]
* VillainTeamUp: Various villains from different series' team up in the game's Story Mode.
* WalkingArmory: Arthur, who carries with him all seven Keys at once.
