It was founded in 1980 by Steve Jackson ([[OneSteveLimit The American one, not the British]] co-founder of Creator/GamesWorkshop). While it began as a TabletopRPG company, it has branched out to produce CardGames, BoardGames, miniatures games, MediaNotes/{{dice}} games and VideoGames in conjunction with Creator/OriginSystems. Their current CashCowFranchise is the ''TabletopGame/{{Munchkin}}'' CardGames.

5	In 1990, Steve Jackson Games was raided by the U.S. Secret Service, which believed that their in-process book ''GURPS Cyberpunk'' was a manual for computer crime. The Secret Service seized computers and other materials from the Steve Jackson Games offices. Steve Jackson sued and won damages, but still had to reconstitute the book from playtest notes and other materials, as they never got all of the seized computers back. The 'Steve Jackson Affair' was one of the cases that led to the foundation of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
