3SIE San Diego Studio (formerly SCE San Diego Studio) is an American VideoGame developing company and a division of Creator/SonyInteractiveEntertainment. It was established in 2001 and is best known for being behind the massively popular ''VideoGame/MLBTheShow'' series of UsefulNotes/{{baseball}} video games. The studio also occasionally ventures into collaborations with other first-party studios and other [=IPs=].

5San Diego Studio is a successor of Creator/NineEightNineStudios, which was one of Sony's oldest development studios and its chief developer in the UsefulNotes/UnitedStates. 989 Studios worked on earlier ''MLB'' titles, as well as ''VideoGame/TwistedMetal'' and ''VideoGame/EverQuest''. In 2000, 989 Studios was merged into Sony's American division in preparation for the then-upcoming Platform/PlayStation2. The following year, Sony founded a successor studio to inherit 989's duties. That successor is San Diego Studio. 989 was briefly revived as a publisher for a few years until 2005, when it was absorbed into Sony for good.

7San Diego is notably one of the few major development studios under Sony to focus nearly entirely on its flagship series, ''MLB: The Show''. It shares this distinction with Creator/PolyphonyDigital and Creator/SIESantaMonicaStudio. Outside of ''MLB: The Show'', San Diego primarily focus on one-off titles and co-productions with both first- and third-party divisions, though it had historically produced internal project. The most notable of them is 2002's ''The Mark of Kri'', which gained a CultClassic status over time.

9Beginning with 2021, San Diego Studio will begin to develop the ''MLB'' games for multiplayer platforms, including those by Creator/XboxGameStudios and Creator/{{Nintendo}}, an unprecedented move as the result of a new contract between Sony and the MLB organization.
