!!Tropes associated with her work:

* CreatorBacklash:invoked For Literature/TheHandmaidsTale; she wanted the film to have a voiceover to convey her character's inner feelings as they had been in the book - but the director didn't like voiceover and so it wasn't included.
* FakeAmerican:invoked Literature/TheHandmaidsTale, Film/PattyHearst
* IAmNotSpock:invoked Despite her impressive resume across film, TV and stage, to a generation of '90s kids she is best known for Film/1998. Indeed, when she died a good number of obituaries identified her as the mother from The Parent Trap. It helps that it was probably her biggest box-office hit and the only film she made for Disney.
* LeslieNielsenSyndrome:invoked While most of her initial film and TV roles were dramatic, in the '90s and 2000s she appeared in a lot more comedies such as Film/1998, Film/BlowDry, Waking Up In Reno, Film/MaidInManhattan, and Film/WildChild.
* PlayingAgainstType:invoked
** Film/1998 was noted to be quite different for her, as she had been playing lots of either IceQueen roles or dramatic heroines.
** Film/MaidInManhattan has her playing a ditzy socialite.
** Waking Up In Reno has her playing a white trash SouthernBelle.
* RealLifeRelative:invoked
** She starred with her mother and aunt in the film The White Countess. They play her character's mother and aunt, like real life.
** She also played the younger version of Vanessa Redgrave in Evening.
* RomanceOnTheSet: She and Liam Neeson met while working on together.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:invoked
** Before she died, she was planning to star in a Broadway revival of Theatre/ALittleNightMusic alongside her mother.
** Liam Neeson was going to star alongside her in Asylum but he was committed to .
** She replaced Creator/SigourneyWeaver in Literature/TheHandmaidsTale after Weaver became pregnant.
