8!!Other works by Louis de Bernières provide examples of:
9* TheJoyOfX: His book ''The Partisan's Daughter'' makes use of the favourite pattern '''The X's Daughter'''.
10* PlanetOfSteves: In ''The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman'', the third book of the Latin American trilogy, Dionysius ends up with a very dedicated fan club, and names the resulting children either Dionysius or Anica (for boys and girls) though at least they get a number. When his mother visited and saw a tiny newborn baby and found that he was about to be named Dionysius the 19th she was not amused. [[spoiler:Readers of the first book should not get too attached to Anica]].
11* VeryLooselyBasedOnATrueStory: ''Red Dog'' is based on a collection of anecdotes and poems about the real Red Dog, who was known to travel vast distances along Western Australia's Pilbara region, spending much of the meantime in Dampier. It is also true that he [[spoiler:died in 1979 and had a statue built in his honor]], but most of the rest of what happens in the novel is almost certainly fictitious.
