4	John William Oliver (born 23 April 1977) is a British-American comedian and actor.

6	His early career followed the well-worn trail of UsefulNotes/{{Oxbridge}} Footlights, where his contemporaries included Creator/{{David Mitchell\|Actor}} and Creator/RichardAyoade. Appearances on Creator/{{BBC}} radio comedy followed, as well as an evolving stand-up act that led him to TV appearances on shows like ''Series/MockTheWeek''.

8	After relocating to the USA, he was a correspondent on ''Series/TheDailyShowWithJonStewart'' from 2006 to 2013. During the summer of 2013, as Creator/JonStewart was directing the film ''Film/{{Rosewater}}'', Oliver was selected to be the GuestHost in his absence. Receiving great acclaim as a host, he was soon offered his own show on HBO, ''Series/LastWeekTonightWithJohnOliver'', a late-night political talk show similar to ''The Daily Show'', which premiered in April 2014.
