->''"When I was a kid, you would tune in to'' Series/{{The Tonight Show|StarringJohnnyCarson}} ''before you went to sleep. Creator/JohnnyCarson. A big treat. I know it's a privilege of mine to be able to be in people's homes. So I hope I make everyone proud, including my parents, and do a good job in this."''

James Thomas Fallon (born September 19, 1974 in New York City, New York) is a charmingly boyish actor, comedian, and talk show host. Best known for his work on ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'', where he gained success at a young age but also garnered criticism for his shameless mugging and [[{{Corpsing}} cracking up on-camera]] during sketches (particularly those where he's partnered with Horatio Sanz), a fact that ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' pointed out on the episode "Don't Make Me Over" (who also [[HilariousInHindsight predicted that Fallon would be one of many former SNL cast members to come back and host an episode]]). His largest success on the show was as the co-anchor of "[[NewsParody Weekend Update]]" with Creator/TinaFey which showcased his strengths as a comedian. When Fallon left ''SNL'' at the end of the 2003-2004 season, he attempted a movie career, which [[EpicFail did not go well]].

On ''SNL'', his popular recurring characters were Patrick Fitzwilliam (one of the hosts of the Irish morning show, "Top O'The Morning." The other was a pre-Weekend Update Creator/SethMeyers), Pat "Sully" Sullivan (one of the Boston Teens), Jarrett (a stoner college student who hosts his own web show, ''Jarrett's Room''), Kip Bloater (a bar hopper), and Nick Burns (a sarcastic computer technician). His notable celebrity impressions (when he was a cast member on ''SNL'', on his talk show, and when he came back to host) include Creator/DennisMiller, Creator/ChrisRock (in so much black make-up that you wouldn't know it was him. [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1786 See here]]), Creator/AdamSandler, Creator/GilbertGottfried, [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1808 Carson Daly]] [[TakeThat (who always introduced himself as being a massive tool)]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1671 John Lennon]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1658 Jerry Seinfeld]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1843 Ralph Nader]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1839 Sting]], Creator/RussellBrand, [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?3155 Justin Bieber]] (He didn't even ''SPEAK'' playing), [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?3409 Harry Styles from One Direction]] [[note]] Him and [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?3452 Brooks Wheelan]] were the only people to play Harry, and neither of them spoke.[[/note]], Creator/AlanRickman, Music/MichaelBuble, [[http://cf2.foodista.com/sites/default/files/styles/featured/public/field/image/Screen%20shot%202011-08-05%20at%203.44.06%20PM.jpg Pauly D from ''Jersey Shore'']], [[http://my.xfinity.com/blogs/tv/files/2012/03/jimmy-fallon-charlie-sheen-clone.jpg Charlie Sheen]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?2083 Pat O'Brien]], [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?1891 Jared Fogel]] (from the Subway ads), [[http://www.snlarchives.net/Impressions/?2195 Jeff Zucker]] and [[http://i.ytimg.com/vi/duKL2dAJN6I/maxresdefault.jpg Bryan Cranston's character Walter White]].

After a string of film flops, ''[=SNL=]'' exec producer Lorne Michaels signed Fallon to a holding deal with Creator/{{NBC}} in 2007, and in 2009, he replaced Creator/ConanOBrien as the host of ''Series/LateNight''. Despite lukewarm early reviews, Fallon and his staff succeeded in turning the show into one of the most buzzed-about shows in the late night pantheon, due in part to their upbeat, optimistic approach to comedy and their use of extravagant pre-taped features, such as parodies of ''Series/{{Glee}}'' ("6-Bee"), ''Series/{{Lost}}'' ("Late"), ''Real Housewives'' ("The Real Housewives of Late Night"), ''Series/TrueBlood'' ("Suckers"), ''Series/BreakingBad'' ("Joking Bad") and ''Series/JerseyShore'' ("Jersey Floor").

This led to him being chosen as Leno's true successor to ''Series/TheTonightShow'' in 2013. With the show (long based in Los Angeles) relocated to Fallon's stomping grounds at 30 Rockefeller Center, the 2014 transition, ''Series/TheTonightShowStarringJimmyFallon'', has been a successful one as many of the ''Late Night'' recurring bits, house band The Roots, and sidekick Steve Higgins have been introduced to a wider audience.

His popularity on the show has led to him appearing in several forms of spin-off material; most notably receiving his own ride at [[Ride/UniversalStudios Universal Studios Florida]], called ''Ride/RaceThroughNewYorkStarringJimmyFallon'', which opened in 2017. He also serves as the current narrator for the tram-based ''Ride/StudioTour'' at Universal Studios Hollywood.

He's released two comedy albums (''The Bathroom Wall'' and ''Blow Your Pants Off'', the latter a collection of ''Late Night'' musical numbers) and hosted the Emmys in 2010. He's also written six books: ''I Hate This Place: A Pessimist's Guide to Life'', two collections of ''Thank You Notes'' (derived from a popular ''Late Night'' / ''Tonight Show'' bit that occupies the Friday post-monologue slot), and the children’s books ''Your Child’s First Word Will Be Dada'', ''Everything Is Mama'', and ''This is Baby''.
----
!!!He provides examples of:

* AffectionateParody: Some of the best examples are the "Tebowie" segments in which the openly-Christian football player Tim Tebow is combined with GlamRock-era Music/DavidBowie. Beyond the pastiches of such songs as "Space Oddity" and "Rebel Rebel", the costuming, makeup, and even camerawork bespeak familiarity with Bowie's work. (Fallon's impression of Bowie dates back to some 1999 ''SNL'' skits.)
* AnimalsHateHim: Exhibit A: [[http://jimmyfallonisafraidofanimals.tumblr.com/ "Jimmy Fallon is Afraid of Animals"]].
* BabysFirstWords: His first kid’s book was written so dads could have their kid’s first word be “Dada”.
* BerserkButton: Do not put mayonnaise on his food. In fact, don't even bring it up in conversation.
-->Somebody will come for a cooking segment on my show and they put mayonnaise and I go yuck, I hate mayonnaise. I ''hate'' mayonnaise. I think it's the most disgusting condiment that exists.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Both Creator/NicoleKidman and Creator/KateHudson had crushes on Jimmy back when they were each single but he failed to pick up on them when they hung out. Many have taunted him on this.
* {{Corpsing}}: (In)famous for cracking-up during SNL skits.
%%* DoesNotLikeSpam: See BerserkButton.
* GenkiGuy: He's largely known for his hyperactive and enthusiastic personality.
* HollywoodNewEngland: '''[[http://www.hulu.com/watch/4149/saturday-night-live-sully-and-denise NOMAH!!]]'''
* IAmNotPretty: He was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 2002, an honor he found embarrassing.
* InTheStyleOf: Does a ''lot'' of covers of pop songs in different genres- for example, he did "Whip My Hair" InTheStyleOf Music/NeilYoung, and the Series/ReadingRainbow theme InTheStyleOf Music/TheDoors.
** On ''Series/LateNight'' he sometimes had a guest vocalist sing one of their songs while his Roots Band accompanies on kindergarten classroom instruments. This has carried over into ''Series/TheTonightShow'' where [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17QQcK4l6Yw Idina Menzel sang "Let It Go"]] from ''WesternAnimation/Frozen2013''.
** Jimmy Fallon and the Roots Band closed out the 2015 Super Bowl with an ''a capella'' version of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHHqPTQDIlo "We Are the Champions"]], joined by several big-name pop singers.
* IWasQuiteALooker: While he is not an ugly man today either, he was [[https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/scaled/2014/02/13/article-2558809-1B77539300000578-285_636x382.jpg a Calvin Klein model]] in his youth and [[https://youtu.be/X4LHWl_7QH4?t=102 this is him in 1999]]. No wonder Creator/NicoleKidman and Creator/KateHudson were attracted to him. He was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 2002, an honor [[IAmNotPretty he found embarrassing]].
* NervesOfSteel: Everytime Robert Irwin brings creatures onto the show, Jimmy wets himself in terror. He ''still'' gets down and close with the animals, despite that.
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer: The periodic "Do Not [fill in the blank: Read, Play, etc.] List" segment has one, assuring the viewer that the books, albums, etc. featured are all real and can be looked up at Amazon.com and elsewhere. (For example, ''Literature/LatawnyaTheNaughtyHorseLearnsToSayNoToDrugs'' was once featured.)
%%* PreciousPuppies: "If Puppies Could Vote".
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's well into his forties, yet looks as if he's hardly aged.
* {{Retraux}}
** Since 2011, the show has an annual Video Game Week in which each show has a segment taking a look at a forthcoming game. During that week, the theme music is arranged to sound like it would in an 8-bit Nintendo game. The opening title montage followed suit visually in 2011-12, but the 2013 edition changed it to pay tribute to video games from all eras.
** The "Cupid's Arrow" skits, supposedly footage from a video dating service that once operated out of Studio 6B, do indeed look like clumsily-edited [=VHS=] material from TheEighties.
* SelfDeprecation: He's pretty cute in interviews, claiming he just works with really funny people and isn't so great himself, and readily admits to still getting incredibly nervous before big gigs, saying he was shaking with nerves backstage before his awesome opening performance at the 2010 Emmys. Aww.
** He also acknowledged his {{Corpsing}} problem during his opening monologue/song when he hosted SNL.
* ShoutOut: He likes to have guests play ''Series/{{Password}}'', with a rather authentic re-creation of the set. He especially likes to play it with Creator/BettyWhite, whose late husband, Allen Ludden, was famous hosting the show (White was also quite a formidable player on ''Password'', and appeared on every version).
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Fallon was polarizing among his ''SNL'' castmates due to his frequent corpsing, which in heavy doses makes a performer look like he or she is calling attention to themselves rather than the material. Tracy Morgan in particular was very vocal in his disdain for Fallon's habit (and made clear he'd physically hurt Fallon if Fallon corpsed in Morgan's presence), and Fallon himself realized the problem when he hosted ''SNL'' during the 37th season.
* TakeThat: As mentioned above, his corpsing habit on SNL was so bad he was on the receiving end of this on other shows. One ''Series/MADtv1995'' skit referred to him as “former future movie star” and he is portrayed as being unable to get through a single line without breaking character, giggling, and shamelessly mugging for the camera. On Family Guy, Peter actually beat him up on live television for doing this, claiming he is NO Carol Burnett and he hasn’t earned the right to do that like she has. On one 30 Rock episode, Tracy accidentally breaks character and gets a laugh, so he then keeps doing it on purpose and even says OUT LOUD he’s doing it to get cheap laughs.
* TeamSwitzerland: During ''Series/TheTonightShow'' conflict, Fallon was the only major late night host to refuse to take sides, calling O'Brien and Leno "two of my heroes and two of my friends."
* ThePollyanna: So much so even his own mother will ask him to take it down a notch.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Horatio Sanz on ''Series/SaturdayNightLive''.
* VerbalTic: Referring to his guests as "My man" or "pal".
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: In an interview with Creator/LouisCK, Jimmy revealed he originally auditioned for ''Series/TheDanaCarveyShow'' instead of ''Series/SaturdayNightLive''. Most of the woman writers wanted him; however, Louis (who was a writer at the time) threatened to quit if they hired him.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: If a bit tacky. See his "Ew!" segments on the Tonight Show.
