Emily Olivia Leah Blunt (born 23 February 1983 in London) is an English-American actress.

Blunt began her acting career in the early 2000s in various stage, TV film and miniseries roles, eventually making her feature film debut in Creator/PawelPawlikowski's 2004 lesbian romantic drama Film/MySummerOfLove. She rocketed to international attention two years later after appearing in the TV film Gideon's Daughter alongside Film/TheDevilWearsPrada. The former film won her a UsefulNotes/GoldenGlobe for Best Supporting Actress, while the latter got her nominated for the UsefulNotes/BAFTA's Orange Rising Star Award. Much was expected of her, and her filmography over the next few years contained numerous critical hits (Film/SunshineCleaning, Film/TheAdjustmentBureau, Film/TheYoungVictoria, etc.) and a couple major misfires (The Wolfman, Gulliver's Travels).

Her profile grew during the 2010s with leading roles in various genres including ScienceFiction (Film/Looper, Film/EdgeOfTomorrow), musicals (Film/IntoTheWoods), thrillers (Film/Sicario, Film/TheGirlOnTheTrain), and horror (Film/AQuietPlace). As such, she has played whimsical comic leads as much as she has dramatic roles or badass Action Girls, and received acclaim for her work in all of these respects.

Blunt has been perpetually courted for various franchises. She was going to be part of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse as Black Widow, but contractual obligations to Gulliver's Travels led to her dropping out and getting replaced with Creator/ScarlettJohansson, who was heavily campaigning for the role in the first place. Drew Goddard also reportedly wanted her for the Sinister Six film, which remains in DevelopmentHell. Blunt finally got to be part of a franchise in 2018 with Film/MaryPoppinsReturns – in which she plays none other than the iconic MagicalNanny. She's also got Brony cred thanks to her voicing Tempest Shadow in WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie2017.

Blunt married Creator/JohnKrasinski in 2010, and they have two daughters together. Her sister Felicity is married to Creator/StanleyTucci. She was ranked by Forbes as one of the highest-paid actresses in the world in 2020.

!!Tropes related to her work:
* ActionGirl: After some moments of this in Film/Looper and a few forays of ActionSurvivor in Film/TheAdjustmentBureau, she goes full-on this in Film/EdgeOfTomorrow, and in Film/Sicario she plays an FBI agent chasing a mysterious drug lord. Her character in the My Little Pony movie is more of a DarkActionGirl. Her character in Film/AQuietPlace doesn't fight as much, but she's no slouch in this department, either.
* FakeAmerican: A lot of her roles have her playing Americans, though most of those were her older, more obscure roles (Film/SunshineCleaning, The Great Buck Howard, etc.). Her more famous roles have her using her natural accent.
* HideYourPregnancy: She was filming Film/IntoTheWoods during her first pregnancy, and Film/TheGirlOnTheTrain during her second. Ironically, in both films, her character is meant to be infertile.
* MsFanservice: Several examples, like Charlie Wilson's War, where she's seen in her panties in one scene, and Film/EdgeOfTomorrow. Especially when she does that yoga pose in her introductory scene in the latter, particularly since the pose gets repeated several times. She's had a number of lingerie scenes in other films, plus appearing topless as well.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** She was originally cast to play Black Widow in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse but was contractually obligated to do another movie (she signed a two-movie deal with Fox when she was cast in Literature/TheDevilWearsPrada) that was filming at the same time as Film/IronMan2 and had to drop out. She also turned down the role of Peggy Carter in the same franchise due to schedule issues.
** She was also considered for Amy Elliott Dunne. Which would have been awesome.
