%%* AFriendInNeed: Winslow and Carmen
* AfterActionPatchup: After one of Winslow's attempts to fly, Carmen hurries up with a firstaid box.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Carmen. Kevin wants her to go undercover in Obama's campaign.
-->'''Carmen:''' 'Cause I'm a girl.\
'''Kevin''': Well that. Plus you're... Uh, you're... What the heck '''are''' you?!
* AnxietyDreams: After supporting Kevin's election.
* AreWeThereYet: Carmen following Kevin through the tunnel.
* AuthorAvatar: Carmen represents Stantis, parroting his conservative political opinions.
%%* AuthorOnBoard
* BigNo: Carmen's reaction to being told what the Obama campaign wants her to do.
* BigRedButton: Which disappoints Winslow: no boom.
%%* BlahBlahBlah
* BlatantLies: Covering up Kevin's disappearance.
%%* BreakOutCharacter: Kevin.
* BriarPatching: When Kevin angles for the VP nomination.
* CardCarryingVillain: Kevin, Lost Bunny of the Apocalypse
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: A large chunk of the cast disappeared in the first couple years.
** Kevin the Lost Bunny of the Apocalypse reappeared after a long absence (with a different design) and has become a regular again since the 2010 election.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Winslow, sometimes, thanks to being portrayed as a reality-denying leftist.
* CommonalityConnection: Winslow wonders why they are friends, when they disagree on everything. Carmen observes they do, on one thing: they like being friends.
* ContemplateOurNavels: An extremely common type of strip, particularly during the Trump presidency, consisted of Winslow and Carmen running across the desert, repeating some variation of the mantra "Things are pretty bad - but they could be worse - could they really? - I don't know".
* [[WolvesAlwaysHowlAtTheMoon Coyotes Always Howl At The Moon]]: Which is why it's good there's only one.
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: One Sunday strip, going from grayscale to yellow-toned, to full color.
* DirtyBusiness: The BlatantLies, according to Carmen.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Despite the strip's blatant conservative bias, Stantis refuses to say anything good about Donald Trump, seeing him as an embarrassment to real conservatism.
* ExplosiveBreeder: Rabbits, of course.
* FireAndBrimstoneHell: Where you can find a sincere supporter of Kevin
* FoxNewsLiberal: Winslow. His character oscillates between vaguely espousing "wacky" liberal ideas for Carmen to take down, and joining Carmen in mocking those dumb and so goddamned crazy lefties.
* FriendshipMoment: Winslow hugs Carmen when she's down (and the panel is grayscale).
* GoneHorriblyRight: The solar-powered drone works right the first time.
* HumansAreBastards: Opie the alien calls off his invasion of Earth because he doesn't want to catch the self-destructive thing we have.
* IAmNotWeasel: Winslow is a coyote and he isn't too fond of people when they mistake him for a similar creature like a dog or wolf. It's a bit {{justified|Trope}} though, since coyotes are part of the canine family so he could be mistaken by those not familiar with what coyotes look like.
* IronicEcho: Carmen tells Winslow that trying to fly over and over is insane because he keeps expecting different results. Winslow calls the mental health center because she keeps telling him the same thing and expecting different results.
* ItsTheJourneyThatCounts: Winslow offers this as an Aesop
%%* ItWasADarkAndStormyNight
* LionsAndTigersAndHumansOhMy: There are a number of humans, like Carmen, but also many talking animals, including Winslow the coyote and a Hillary Clinton caricature who is a chicken.
%%* LoopholeAbuse
* TheManInTheMoon: The moon starts to make faces when Carmen says we haven't been back in a long time
%%* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Kevin's
* MissingWhiteWomanSyndrome: Kevin's disappearance manages to attract attention despite not being blond.
%%* TheMole: Carmen
* MosesInTheBulrushes: Winslow claims this is how his story starts, with a basket in the rushes...
* MultipleChoicePast: ...until he starts making contrary claims.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Why, you've gotten the Lost Bunny of the Apocalypse elected to the Senate, what else?
* TheNoseKnows: Winslow claims it as a superpower
%%* OhWaitThisIsMyGroceryList
* OnlySaneMan: Carmen often plays this role. A common way for the strip to present its political message is to have a caricature of liberal attitudes or policies portrayed as something silly or crazy, then have her respond in this way. She has also been known to do this however to Republicans when the author felt they were going too far.
%%* OnlySmartPeopleMayPass
* OrwellianRetcon: After a month worth of strips in which Carmen escapes ICE agents attempting to deport her and hides with Winslow's family - a source of much comedy about [[StrawmanPolitical craaaaaaaaaaaazy leftist attitudes]] - the arc is abruptly aborted, and Carmen declares that she was obviously never targeted by ICE agents. Rather, she stepped out to buy ice cream, and Winslow misunderstood her.
** Quite possibly the result of [[MisaimedFandom misplaced audience sympathy]]. Carmen was deeply UnintentionallyUnsympathetic, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking exhibiting transphobic behavior and whining about her rescuers (horror of horrors) asking her to play cooperative boards games]]. By contrast, no matter how kooky the coyotes' leftist beliefs were supposed to be, [[StrawmanHasAPoint they were in fact sheltering an American child from an unjust attempt at arrest and deportation]].
%%* PaperThinDisguise
* PrettyButterflies: Carmen and Winslow admire one one lazy day.
* RaisedByWolves: Reversed. Winslow is so humanized that an attempt to live with wild coyotes failed miserably.
* RippedFromTheHeadlines: As with most political comics. For example, in one story Winslow refused to let Carmen buy football cards just because she's a conservative; meanwhile, she pointed out that the football ''players'' are far worse ("drug abuser... deadbeat dad... adulterer...!"). This was based on the controversy over Radio/RushLimbaugh wanting to buy a football team.
* RunningGag: Winslow trying to fly, for one.
* SchmuckBait: Unsatisfactory for Winslow, since it does nothing.
-->''If you break the rules you deserve a boom.''
* ShoutOut: [[Literature/NineteenEightyFour "Speaking is Action! Spending is Saving! Debt is Stimulus!"]]
** "Real Reality is for Suckers!"
** Winslow's MultipleChoicePast includes references to ComicBook/SpiderMan and ''Film/TheGodfather''.
* SingleTear: Winslow, after a parting from Carmen.
* StrawCharacter
%%* TalkAboutTheWeather
* TalkingAnimal: Winslow the coyote and other desert-dwellers.
* ThatCloudLooksLike: Carmen's looks like a bunny; Winslow is gone because he sees a T-rex with fork and knife.
%%* TorchesAndPitchforks
* VitriolicBestBuds: Carmen and Winslow often argue about politics, but they always prove themselves to befriends in the end.
* VoteEarlyVoteOften: Rejected. The dead voted only once for Kevin.
