ODY-C is a comic book series by writer Creator/MattFraction and artist Creator/ChristianWard, published by Creator/ImageComics.

As the title suggests, it's a science fiction take on Literature/TheOdyssey, telling the story of Odyssia's return home to the planet Ithacaa following the sack of Troiia VII, and the strange planets and alien creatures she and her crew encounter along the way. And as the story continues, it also folds in story elements from other epics, including the Thousand and One Nights and the Aeneid.

Odyssia, by the way, is female. So is her entire crew and pretty much everyone they encounter. The second issue explains that, at some point in the past, Zeus killed off every man in the universe for fear that one of them would father a child who would overthrow Zeus the way Zeus overthrew his/herThe Olympians don't bother with restrictive mortal concepts like the gender binary. father Cronus. The consequences of Zeus's action, and of various attempts to get around it, recur through the series.

!!ODY-C provides examples of:

* BizarreAlienSexes: The sebex gender created to replace men look like Pink Skinned Space Babes with ExoticEquipment and get pregnant from sex with women.
* TheBlueBeard:
* DefiledForever: He's face was horribly mutilated during his captivity so that nobody would want him.
* TheFaceless: He of Troiia.
* Gendercide: Zeus killed off every man in the universe for fear that one of them would father a child who would overthrow Zeus.
* GenderFlip: Nearly all the Odyssey's male characters (one notable exception is revealed on the last page of the first issue) and even some of the female characters, because this is a sci-fi setting where "male" and "female" aren't the only options.
* JerkassGods: The Olympians mainly regard the mortals as toys for their amusement or tools in their intrigues against each other.
* LotusEaterMachine: There is an entire planet covered with lotus flowers that gradually rob people of their sanity. The local industries are all based around exploiting those who come and get addicted to the lotuses.
* NarrativePoem: Written in imitation of this style. The prose captions are in what Fraction dubbed his "dummy hexameter", his attempt to mimic the original's dactylic hexameter.
* RecycledInSpace: It's The Odyssey in space, with a cast of female or genderqueer characters.
* SadlyMythtaken: The source mythology gets played around with in ways that have nothing to do with the gender shuffle or futuristic setting. For example, Prometheus is presented as Zeus' child rather than cousin, Zeus' and Hera's respective attitudes towards Zeus' offspring are rather different from the Greek myths, Proteus and Humbaba are very different from the originals, etc.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Zeus' paranoid fear of being overthrown stems from how they overthrew their own father.
* SophisticatedAsHell: The characters and the narration switch casually between poetic refined English and blunt language with lots of swearing.
-->Narrator: Here is Poseidon's abandoned and hideous daughter: the Cyclops of Kylos! Here is that cannibal beast which dares walk as a woman and speak as if civilized. "Who the good fuck are these whores in my home?!?" doth the Cyclops of Kylos cry out.
* SufficientlyAdvancedAliens: The Olympians, presumably.
