''Lady Mechanika'' is a creator-owned comic book series by Joe Benitez, inspired by the SteamPunk genre.

The tabloids dubbed her "Lady Mechanika", the sole survivor of a serial killer's three-year rampage through England. Authorities found her locked in an abandoned laboratory amidst an undeterminable number of corpses and body parts, her own limbs having been amputated and replaced with mechanical components.

With no memory of her captivity or her former life, Mechanika eventually built a new life for herself as a private detective/professional monster hunter, using her unique abilities to solve cases the police couldn't or wouldn't handle. But she never stopped searching for the answers to her own past.

Set in late UsefulNotes/VictorianBritain, a time when magic and superstition clashed with new scientific discoveries and inventions, Lady Mechanika is about a young woman's search for her own identity as she solves other mysteries involving science and the supernatural.

!!''Lady Mechanika'' contains examples of:

* TheAce: Lady Mechanika is the world's greatest monster hunter with her superhuman abilities, expert tracking skill and mastery of all forms of combat.
* ActionGirl: Lady Mechanika, who's bionic limbs and altered blood gives her the strength and speed to take on inhuman monsters.
* AfraidOfClowns: In #3, Lady Mechanika and her assistant Lewis have to infiltrate 'Cirque du Romani', and it is revealed that Lewis is afraid of clowns.
* TheAlcoholic: Archibald Lewis, which is sometimes PlayedForLaughs but ''La Belle Dame sans Merci'' shows just how tragic his condition really is.
* AllMythsAreTrue: From {{the fair folk}} to golems to vampires, and possibly a Mexican goddess of the dead.
* AmazonBrigade: The Desert Wraiths, a sect of warrior women.
* AmnesiacHero: Lady Mechanika. She has no memory of her identity and past, she even believed once that it was the Ministry of Health that made her into her current state (she later learned that they merely experimented with her after they caught her).
* AristocratsAreEvil: Lord Blackpool. And Commander Winter's full title is 'Lady Katherine de Winter, Countess of the St. Germaines, Bearer of the Seventh Key of the Inner Collective'.
* ArmsDealer: Lord Blackpool is a wealthy industrialist specializing in weapon production.
* BedouinRescueService: In ''The Tablet of Destinies'' #4, Mechanika and Winifred are rescued from a gang of slavers by a group of Desert Wraiths.
* BedlamHouse: Played with. The Ministry of Health functions like one but almost all of the wards there are normal mentally. They're placed there because of extreme birth defects (and quite of a few wards may be possible {{Mutant}}s as their deformities go way beyond the usual vestigial limb or cleft palate) where Deacon "Grin" Grindlethorn will eventually "cure" them. There was only one ward placed there for psychological reason - [[spoiler: Katherine Winters, who's a narcissist and budding sociopath.]]
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: In ''The Tablet of Destinies'' #1, Mechanika is hired as a hunting guide by a bother and sister pair of {{Egomaniac Hunter}}s to help them bag a Bigfoot in the Alps. Mechanika is less than thrilled with the assignment.
* BlastingItOutOfTheirHands: Mechanika does this to Commander Winter in issue #2. Winter loses a couple of fingers as a result.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Leanna Shi, one of TheFairFolk, acts as a muse for creative mortals. They are all doomed to die young as she feeds on their mortality, but she sees nothing wrong with this because, from her perspective, they become immortal through their works.
* BrainUploading: In ''The Lost Boys of West Abbey'', this is the goal of the ArcVillain, [[spoiler:an elderly industrialist who wants to cheat death by combining science with heretical mysticism to transfer his mind into an immortal mechanical golem]].
* CombatStilettos: Mechanika wears high-heels even in a fight.
* CoolAirship: Lord Blackpool's ''The Helio Arx''.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Lord Blackpool is an ambitious criminal industrialist so powerful that the authorities are largely powerless in going after him.
* CowboyEpisode: ''La Dama de la Muerte'' takes Lady Mechanika on a gunslinging adventure in rural Mexico.
* CrossingTheDesert: Mechanika and Winifred have to trek across the Sahara Desert after being stranded by a zeppelin crash in ''The Tablet of Destinies''.
* {{Cyborg}}: Lady Mechanika who has mechanical limbs and eyes more advanced than even the high-end bionics found in Mechanika City.
* DangerousDeserter: In ''The Tablet of Destinies'' #4, Mechanika and Winifred are captured by a deserter from the British army who now leads a gang of slavers.
* DeathSeeker: Lewis falls into this hole more and more as the series progresses, thanks to his SurvivorsGuilt after the disastrous prototype tank incident revealed in ''The Clockwork Assassin''.
* DreadZeppelin: Evil ArmsDealer Lord Blackpool travels on a massive flying warship bristling with weapons, known as ''The Helio Arx''.
* EgomaniacHunter: The Colonel in #0.
* EnergyWeapon: Mechanika City's SchizoTech goes beyond steampunk cyborgs and robots, there are energy weapons available such as Tesla-based stun rays and LaserCutter type equipment which Lady Mechanika and others have made use of.
* EntertaininglyWrong: Allie Littleton's persistent belief that Lady Mechanika is an impostor, especially with Mechanika herself simply taking it in stride.
* EvilRedhead: Commander Winter, Mistress Grimm, and [[spoiler:Lady Mechanika's EvilCounterpart]]. Joe Benitez seems to be very fond of the trope.
* EyepatchOfPower: Commander Winter leads the Blackpool military wing and she has an eye-patch.
* TheFairFolk: [[PunnyName Leanna Shi]] is a centuries old, silver-haired, French-accented fairy with a weakness to iron and she can't tell a lie.
* FantasticNuke: Played with in ''The Tablet of Destinies'' in that the goal of the villains is to create ''actual'' nukes based on real science, albeit using steampunk technology to replicate designs left by a society of AdvancedAncientHumans that were wiped out thousands of years prior.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In ''The Monster of the Ministry of Hell'', Lady Mechanika scares off some hooligans who were jeering at a "pig-man" in a freak show, [[NotQuiteTheRightThing only to get told off by the performers]] who were looking forward to the jerks bringing their friends to spend more money at the fair. This is soon followed by the revelation that [[spoiler:when she killed Deacon Grindlethorn in her youth, believing that he was a sadistic child-killer, it was with an incomplete understanding of the situation. The killings and abuse of her friends were committed by other people, and the deacon himself was a fundamentally good man.]]
* FriendOnTheForce: Detective Inspector Singh, who reaches out to Mechanika when the police are stumped with a case.
* GadgeteerGenius: Lewis who's an ex-Blackpool engineer and makes much of Lady Mechanika's more exotic equipment.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: In ''The Monster of the Ministry of Hell'', it's revealed that Lady Mechanika can regenerate with no scarring, even her internal organs can rebuild themselves (her bionic limbs are seamlessly fused with her flesh which is why she doesn't regrow a new set). Her regeneration meant her captors at the Ministry of Health can vivisect her with no permanent damage.
* TheGunslinger: Mechanika is Types A and C.
* HunterOfMonsters: The tabloids of Mechanika City dub her as the world's greatest monster hunter and she's famed globally as such.
* ImmortalAssassin: La Madrina, the antagonist of ''Sangre''. Her only reason for existing is to purge the entire world of [[spoiler:vampires]] and anyone who would protect them. As for her immortality, even being sliced to pieces is merely a momentary inconvenience as her body will pull itself together again in seconds.
* LizardFolk: [[spoiler:The villains of ''The Tablet of Destinies'' belong to a race of reptilians with the ability to camouflage themselves as humans, and secretly plot to destroy humanity.]]
* KnifeThrowingAct: Gitano of the ''Cirque du Romani'' is an expert at throwing knives and uses them in show.
* MadScientist: The always masked Deacon "Grin" combines this with SinisterMinister. A man of God and the chief medical officer, he performs experiments and new treatments on deformed wards at the Ministry of Health [[spoiler: but he never cures them, instead he kills them and has their body parts preserved or so the audience is lead to believe. Then subverted at the end of the story arc, it's revealed that Deacon Grindlethorn is actually a good person and outside his unintentionally unethical handling of Mechanika, the sinister events taking place were the actions of other people.]]
* {{Magitek}}: In ''Sangre'', it's revealed that Lady Mechanika's modifications aren't just restricted to mechanical limbs. She's been modified using elements of vampire blood as well.
* MasqueradeBall: In #4, Mechanika infiltrates a masquerade ball being thrown by Lord Blackpool by [[MuggedForDisguise knocking out a female guest and stealing her costume and invitation]].
* MuggedForDisguise:
** In #4, Mechanika knocks out a party-goer and steals her masquerade costume.
** In ''The Tablet of Destinies'' #2, Mechanika steals a robe and mask from a Rosicrucian to infiltrate their London headquarters.
* MistakenForMurderer: [[spoiler: While kept as a ward of the Ministry of Health a young Mechanika found Deacon "Grin" Grindlethorne keeping dismembered body parts of deformed girls who had supposedly been "cured" preserved in jars. This, combined with the many abuses she had already suffered in the Ministry, caused Mechanika to kill him in a violent rage. Years later, she would learn that Deacon Grin was ultimately a compassionate (if still unsettling) doctor. The worst abuses were committed by others without his knowledge, and the killings were at the hands of a young Katherine de Winter, a budding psychopath.]]
* MultiMeleeMaster: In ''Sangre'', Mechanika shows she's as good with unarmed combat and various melee weapons as she is with a gun.
* OfCorsetsSexy: Corsets are part of this world's fashion and yes they're worn to accentuate the figure, Lady Mechanika herself wears them even while adventuring/monster-hunting.
* PercussivePickpocket: A StreetUrchin attempts this on Mechanika in ''The Tablet of Destinies'' #2. It doesn't work.
* PhotographicMemory: Winifred has the ability to perfectly recall everything she's ever read.
* QueerRomance: ''Sangre'' featured a Spanish baron's son who is in a relationship with the son of a vampire matriarch. While the vampire's mother has no issue, the Spanish baron already has a low opinion of his son, who's a student of "unmanly" poetry and takes after his English mother with his delicate build, being gay in 19th century Europe is a step too much for him.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted with Lady Mechanika herself. Her red eyes are a bit unnerving and she is certainly dangerous to anyone on her bad side, but she has a good heart.
** Likewise subverted with Monty, [[spoiler:a mechanical teddy bear that had been used as a golem to temporarily house a child's spirit as an experiment. After removing the parchment that rendered it inert, the bear came to life again with menacing glowing eyes, but soon proved itself to be nothing but a friendly companion for Winifred]].
* RobotMaid: Lord Blackpool has a robot butler.
* SavedToEnslave: n ''The Tablet of Destinies'', Mechanika and Winifred are saved from dying in the ThirstyDesert by a gang of slavers led by a DangerousDeserter who intends to sell them.
* ScoobyDooHoax: In ''La Dama de la Muerta'' a gang of outlaws disguise themselves as demons to demand tithes from a group of isolated villages in rural Mexico.
* SteamPunk: While Mechanika City is the strongest purveyor of advanced steam-based technology, steam-punk technology is commonplace throughout the world to varying degrees and this does have an effect on society as technology is moving faster than can be integrated without upheaval.
* SteampunkGadgeteers: This is encouraged with the creation of Mechanika City in England. The city is a hub for international inventors to migrate and build whatever they want, with a reasonable chance of their product being purchased up by some industry mogul.
* ThirstyDesert: Lady Mechanika and Winifred find themselves stranded in the middle of the Sahara Desert after their zepplin crashes in ''The Tablet of Destinies''.
* ThoseMagnificentFlyingMachines: 'The Lewis Flyer', which appears to be a steampowered vintage car with ornithopter wings and a helicopter rotor that somehow still manages to fly.
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: Commander Winter's full title is 'Lady Katherine de Winter, Countess of the St. Germaines, Bearer of the Seventh Key of the Inner Collective'.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Lady Mechanika's transformation into a cyborg.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: ''The Monster of the Ministry of Hell'' reveals that Katherine Winter and Mechanika (who Katherine named Evie) used to be friends when they were wards of the Ministry of Health.
* WholeEpisodeFlashback: The story arc of ''The Monster of the Ministry of Hell'' takes place initially in the present at the Founders Festival, before Lady Mechanika tells Dr. Littleton of her past which turns the arc into one big flashback/prequel.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: In issue #3 we learn that Lewis is afraid of clowns.
* YourCostumeNeedsWork: Lady Mechanika gets this from young Allie Littleton who insists that the ''real'' Lady Mechanika wouldn't wear something as "frumpy" as the dress she has on when they first meet.
* ZeppelinsFromAnotherWorld: Zeppelins are commonplace in this world and it's used when a person wishes to travel long distances in comfort.
