The series having spanned for two shows and a film, there are quite a lot of characters.

Zack is the more immature, fun-loving, and outgoing of the two twins, making him the "cooler" twin. Although he acts like a jerk, he does care about his friends and family, especially Cody.
----
* AllWorkVsAllPlay: The fun-loving All Play to Cody's studious All Work.
%%* BashBrothers: With Cody.
* BigBrotherBully: Well, Zack ''was'' born a few minutes before Cody and he bullies Cody sometimes.
* BookDumb: He is a straight D student.
* BrilliantButLazy:
** It has been stated in-universe. Zack is actually very smart, possibly on par with Cody, but he lacks work ethic, and is quite lazy in regards to studies. However, when properly motivated and on the right subject (woodshop, for example) Zack is a brilliant student, having gotten A's when he applies himself, and is the best in class at Woodshop, even better then Cody, which Cody is astounded by.
** He tends to be rather passionate toward his goals; during his tenure as hall monitor in Suite Life on Deck, he points out he tends to shift to either a lack of effort or very passionate to the chance of going overboard.
** In one episode of ''On Deck'' he admits during a therapy session that part of the reason he rarely tries hard on his school assignments is because he feels that no matter how well he does it won't be nearly as good as the work Cody turns in and is constantly praised for.
* ConsistentClothingStyle: Zack wears patterned shirts and baggy trousers. His shirts have some symbol on them, usually an animal. He also tends to wear black, while Cody veers towards white.
* CoolKidAndLoserFriendship: Very popular, but still is very fond of his dorky brother, especially as the series progressed.
* DeadpanSnarker: Of the MouthyKid variety in the first series, but he's still snarky in the sequel.
%%* DoggedNiceGuy: Toward Maddie.
* DumbassTeenageSon: He was a BrattyHalfPint originally but got dumber as he got older.
* FatSlob: He's a slob... and he gains a lot of weight in the second and third season of Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The foolish BookDumb sibling to Cody's responsible.
* HasAType: Though he isn't picky when it comes to girls, the girls that Zack shows genuine attraction to (Max, Maddie and Maya) are strong-willed and not afraid to stand up for themselves)
* HotelHellion: In ''Suite Life of Zack and Cody''. He and his brother live in the hotel (as their divorced single mom works there) and cause trouble. They also provide the page image.
* InformedAttribute: We're told Zack's a bad boy, but other than pranks and zany schemes, this is never shown. "The Bermuda Triangle" flips this around and turns it up to eleven with Cody being basically an exaggerated flanderization of Zack, complete with a bad boy leather jacket-wearing persona, and Zack being one of Cody; a super-sensitive CampStraight Mama's boy.
* InterclassFriendship: With London. London is good friends with Zack and Cody themselves (whose mother works at London's hotel as the lounge singer).
* JerkassHasAPoint: Zack rightfully calls Carey out in "French 101" for encouraging Cody to start a love war between the brothers over a French girl Zack laid eyes on first.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's disobedient, lazy, troublesome, and even insults and uses Cody, he genuinely cares about him.
* KidAnova: Though to be fair, his attempts failed just as often as they succeeded.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** Carey lampshades this when saying that Zack did deserve losing his twin dates to Cody who he tries to exploit.
** In a later episode, he tries to get money to pay back a large and seemingly violent spelling bee contestant[[note]]He wasn't. Zack 'thought' the kid was going to beat him up, when in fact the kid was just going to tell Carey that Zack borrowed money from him with the intention of not paying it back[[/note]]. Once Zack got some, all of the hotel staff he borrow money from came back to get their cut, leaving him with nothing again.
* LikesOlderWomen: Zack had a crush on Maddie and Emily, two girls much older than him.
* MouthyKid: In the original series he was quite the smartass as a kid and not afraid to speak his mind.
* NeverMyFault: Big time. He often causes problems with his pranks and disobedience and will try to avoid blame and punishment anyway he can. This became a major plot point in the movie when he costs Cody his scholarship to Yale because he was following him on the tour bugging him to give him the car their parents were going to give to Cody for college, and then destroyed equipment trying to impress a girl. Cody is understandably furious at him over this but all he can say is "I didn't ''mean'' to" or "that's not my fault because if you had given me the car it never would have happened."
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: No one calls Zack by his full name, although Mr. Moseby occasionally uses it as a FullNameUltimatum when he pulls a particularly ZanyScheme.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Zack is a fun-loving slacker, while Cody is a studious and hard-working bookworm.
* PrecociousCrush: He had one on Maddie, primarily in the first series, though it shows up again in the ''On Deck'' episode "Maddie on Deck."
* ReallyGetsAround: Maya asks him to name all of his ex-girlfriends, after several hours, he's still not done. It's also speculated that he didn't actually ''date'' all of those girls. When he asks her how many boys she dated it’s implied she has just as many.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Cody's blue.
* SecretSecretKeeper: In ''That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana'', it is likely that he and Cody deduced that Raven Baxter has the ability to see what goes on in the future. Zack even mocked her ''I have a vision'' schtick, and bad things kept happening to Cody every time a sneeze and a bell was heard, as Raven subtly warned them.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Cody's Sensitive Guy. He's the "cooler" twin, more athletic, rebellious and a player with girls.
%%* SuperSpeed: As Quick Guy in "Super Twins".
* TookALevelInDumbass: In ''On Deck''.
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''On Deck'', he's much less egotistical and is a bit kinder to Cody. Though him taking a level in dumbass has made him less intentionally rude than his younger years. This is especially after dating Maya. Maya's birthday is an example and it's implied it's not simply to woo her but thinks she deserves a birthday party that Moseby decides to deny. However, he did go through questionable lengths for this, such as deceiving Sean Kingston, which London calls him out for. Though he's shown shades of being caring all throughout both series not only to Maya but to Maddie as well as being the only one to show up at her sweet 16 party as everybody goes to London's after she bribes them. Another instance has him object to London lip-syncing and Maddie providing her singing voice. He thinks Maddie deserves the recognition. Let's not forget him falling to pieces after seeing a romance film.
* TricksterTwins: With Cody, mostly in the original series.
* TwoFirstNames: "Martin" can also be a first name.
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Most of the time. He once locked Cody (who was wearing only a towel) out of the hotel room, was told not to do it again under pain of grounding by his mother, did it again, then acted surprised when she grounded him.
* VocalEvolution: In Season 2 of ''On Deck'', thanks to Dylan, along with Cole, going through puberty during the time. This is lampshaded in one episode when Zack tries to get Mr. Moseby's attention - he doesn't see him and calls him "sir", not realizing it's Zack until he turns around and comments on his voice getting lower.

Cody is the more responsible and studious of the twins. He is sensitive and sweet, and he enjoys academics and cooking.
----

* AllWorkVsAllPlay: The studious All Work to Zack's fun-loving All Play.
* AlwaysSecondBest: In "Roomies", he and Bailey play a lot of games (Darts, Ping-Pong, Simon Says, and Basketball) and he loses all of them.
* AnimalLover: He cares for animals, such as saving Tippy the horse and protecting whales from being hurt from the ship. Most shown in the episode "The Birdman Of Boston" where he helped to hatch a hawk's egg and was against Mr. Moseby having it removed from the hotel.
* AngryChef: In the episode "[[Series/HellsKitchen Heck's Kitchen]]", Chef Paolo quits the very day a famous food critic is coming to the Tipton so Cody steps up to become the new chef while his friends and family become the staff. In the process, he spends the time shouting at them, insulting their cooking, and forcing them to work harder and harder.
* AthleticallyChallenged: He struggles with most sports, only getting good at football when Kirby uses science to teach him.
* BadassBookworm: While primarily displayed in the ''Suite Life on Deck'', there are moments when Cody actually surpasses Zack in physical ability. Best examples are in "It's All Greek to Me", where he lifts a heavy glass case by himself, in another, he rips a towel in half, and in another, he tackles and takes down Kurt Warner, one of the ''greatest undrafted football players of all time,'' and one of the greatest players in ''NFL history.'' Let it be known that the first two were because he heard Bailey talk about another guy in a romantic way, so they could be jealousy-fueled. The last one was all him, though.
%%* BashBrothers: With Zack.
* BelligerentSexualTension: After they break up, it's extremely obvious he still has feelings for Bailey, but they spend most of their time bickering instead of admitting it.
* BigLittleBrother: Is the younger twin but is taller than Zack.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With fellow nerdy bookworm Bailey, they are the PairTheSmartOnes variant of the trope.
* BookSmart: Unlike Zack, he gets very good grades at school.
* ConsistentClothingStyle: Cody either wears sweater vests with a shirt underneath it or polo shirts. He also is the most likely to wear shorts, especially in On Deck.
* CoolKidAndLoserFriendship: At first with Zack, but he later becomes less and less of a loser.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Even more so than Zack at times.
* CrazyPrepared: Cody archives all of his school papers, but he also adds one random ridiculous paragraph into each of them, just in case someone tries using one of them for themselves. This becomes unfortunate for Zack when he steals an old paper from Cody that makes Miss Tutweiller believe he has a fear of bananas.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: In the early episodes he was a troublemaker like Zack in a TricksterTwins duo, but as time goes on, he becomes the more mature twin and the responsible one in a FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling dynamic.
* DoggedNiceGuy: To Bailey, at first. A mild subversion, as it was pretty clear that Bailey liked him, too.
%%* ExtracurricularEnthusiast
* DorkInASweater: In the original series up until the first few episodes of On Deck, where sweater vests are his signature look.
%%* EndearinglyDorky: He is passionate about his interests and enthuses to anyone who listens.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible studious sibling to Zack's foolish BookDumb.
* GeekPhysiques: He is scrawny without much muscle, which is particularly commented on by Bailey's family.
* GenderBlenderName: Cody can be both a girls and a boys name.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Cody is a sweet kid and he has blonde hair.
* HomeworkSlave: For Zack. Slightly subverted as he doesn't mind doing it, though in one episode threatens to "only" Zack a B.
* HotelHellion: In ''Suite Life of Zack and Cody''. He and his brother live in the hotel (as their divorced single mom works there) and cause trouble. They also provide the page image.
* InsufferableGenius: Especially in the sequel series, when he TookALevelInJerkass and becomes more arrogant.
* IWasBeatenByAGirl: He spends all of "Roomies" trying to beat Bailey at something, which he fails.
* InterclassFriendship: With London. London is good friends with Zack and Cody themselves (whose mother works at London's hotel as the lounge singer).
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: Cody likes cooking, cleaning, sewing. Things that are seen as "girls" hobbies. He has also dressed in women's clothing multiple times.
* JerkassRealization: After they broke up in the season 2 finale of "on Deck", Cody's spent a lot of time being a jerk to Bailey as he blamed her for their breakup. Although he tried to take the mature route and stay friends with her, Cody kept letting his anger and hurt over the situation get the better of him culminating in him writing a play about their breakup which painted Bailey as the bad guy, which hurt her feelings. After seeing how hurt Bailey was about this and a talk with Zack, Cody not only realized his awful behavior but also that he made a big mistake in breaking up with her.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The Feminine Boy to Bailey's Masculine Girl. {{Downplayed}} because Bailey isn't overly masculine, but due to her upbringing on the farm, she's more physically adept than Cody is.
* TheMillstone: In "Lost At Sea", his [[NiceJobBreakingItHero desire to be right]] gets the cast stranded on a desert island. Thankfully he fixes it in the end.
* MouthyKid: Was a smartass kid along with Zack in the first season of ''Suite Life of Zack And Cody''. Then they develop different personalities, especially with Cody becoming more polite and respectful than his brother.
* NerdsLoveToughSchoolwork: Cody really enjoys doing homework and other schoolwork.
* NervousWreck: He can become panicked and stressed out about situations, especially if it involves school or misdemeanors. He screams a lot and has a blanket that he hugs when scared.
* NiceGuy: In the first series anyway, in which he was more kind-hearted and selfless, before he TookALevelInJerkass.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite complaining about Zack's antics, he does go along with them and even causes a few himself.
* OfficialCouple: He and Bailey are officially dating in the sequel series.
* PatheticallyWeak: Especially in On Deck where its revealed that Bailey has to start an apple for him and he gets splinters from picking up a wooden tray.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Zack the jock and nerdy Cody.
%%* PsychicPowers: As Brain Man in "Super Twins".
* RedOniBlueOni:The blue to Zack's red.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Cole Sprouse is really very good at girly screams for his rather chicken-hearted character. Even more impressive as he is able to maintain his girly scream even after going through puberty. There is even a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqzWPscKUNQ video tribute]] to his girly scream.
* SicklyNeuroticGeek: Cody apparently has a trick knee, a sensitive scalp, a weak clavicle, and is allergic to multiple things to only name a few of his ailments.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Sensitive Guy to Zack's Manly Man. He's a quiet nerd who loves school and cooking.
* TheSmartGuy: He has more common sense than his brother and gets better grades.
* SmartPeopleKnowLatin: He knows enough Latin to point out a mistake in the Latin phrases in his diploma.
* SupremeChef: He has a passion for baking and cooking.
* TeachersPet: He tries to be one, anyway. He (along with Bailey in ''On Deck'') is always the only one to volunteer to answer questions in class, and he'll even sometimes interrupt the teacher to practically teach the class for them.
-->'''Tour Guide:''' And I will now tell you the story of Princess Zaria's fabled crown. It was crafted for the princess by--\
'''Bailey:''' Her high priest! But sadly, she never got the chance to wear it before she perished.\
'''Tour Guide:''' Yes, and it was--\
'''Cody:''' It was buried with her, but when her tomb was discovered, it was missing, leading archaeologists to conclude it was stolen by graverobbers!\
'''Tour Guide:''' ''(looks at Miss Tutweiller quizzically)''\
'''Miss Tutweiller:''' Yeah, you get used to it.
* TeenGenius: His enjoyment of academics and learning is furthered in the episode "Cody Goes to Camp" when he attends a math camp, and is also seen in "Neither a Borrower nor a Speller Bee" when he wins a spelling competition.
* TerrifiedOfGerms: A phobia Cody developed in the latter half of ''On Deck''.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In ''The Suite Life on Deck''. Got worse after his breakup with Bailey, that he made a play based on their breakup, which did nothing but hurt her and ended with her character being killed. Zack himself lampshades this in the same episode.
--> '''Zack:''' I have to admit. You ''were'' a lot happier when you were with Bailey, and you were clearly less confused.
* TricksterTwins: With Zack, mostly in the original series. When he partook in a Senior Prank, it's clear he hasn't lost his edge completely.
* TwoFirstNames: "Martin" can also be a first name.
* VocalEvolution: In Season 2 of ''On Deck'', thanks to Cole, along with Dylan, going through puberty during the time. This is lampshaded in "Lost at Sea" when his voice cracks are a concern for him in the story.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:London Tipton]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/BrendaSong
[[quoteright:292:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/london_slod.jpg]]

London is the only daughter of the owner of the Tipton hotel, Wilfred Tipton. She is extremely rich and fashion-forward, but rather airheaded.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: She easily beats Maddie in chess whenever they play it, one of these times she was [[ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask talking on the phone]].
* AsianAirhead: She's a beautiful, rich, popular young girl... who just happens to be dense as a brick.[[note]]It turns out that the role was not written for an Asian girl, as it's supposed to be a parody of Paris Hilton. In fact, Ashley Tisdale was originally going to play London with Brenda Song in the Maddie role, but they ended up being switched because the girls played the parts better. This is referenced in the alternate dimension episode, where the girls are their original intended roles.[[/note]]
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: London gets easily distracted by things she desires a few times, such as jewelry.
* AttentionWhore: She always tries to make ''everything'' about herself and loves to be in the spotlight.
* BookDumb: Originally she was just a lazy rich girl who didn't care about school and acted a lot like Zack, but then she was flanderized into a BrainlessBeauty who NeverLearnedToRead.
* BrainlessBeauty: She gets [[TookALevelInDumbass dumber]] as the show progresses.
* BreakoutCharacter: Being a secondary character to only the twins, London has gained popularity in mainstream media for both series. She gained a lot of attention for being a unique parody to the popular Paris Hilton.
* BrilliantButLazy: London has shown signs of great hidden intellect, though ironically she hates to do anything with it. She is great at calligraphy (though she vows never to use it again when she gets her phone back) and is an excellent chess player, but finds the game boring. She is also shown to have great craftsmanship, as seen in "Cruisin" for a "Bruisin" when she is fixing the broken ship in the bottle. It seems that she does not have a lack of intelligence so much as a lack of effort to learn.
* CantTakeCriticism: One small comment of honesty regarding her flaws will most definitely cause her to act out in pique, such as in one episode that showed her firing most of the employees in the hotel after they stated out loud how her incompetence at each of their occupations caused their mishaps.
%%* CityMouse: And holy shit ''how!''
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Yay me!"
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: London was initially portrayed as a shallow RichBitch, before adopting her ditzy qualities. She also got softened to sometimes become more InnocentlyInsensitive than actually mean-spirited.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Especially in the sequel series, London seems to have retreated into her own world.
%%* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Too easy...
* ConsistentClothingStyle: London wears a lot of glitter and shiny outfits and usually has some sort of hair decoration and jewellery. Also, all of her shoes have heels. Her outfits in On Deck tend to be less glittery.
* CoolKidAndLoserFriendship: Has this with both Maddie in the original series and Bailey in ''On Deck.'' She's a RichBitch, while Maddie is more academically oriented and unpopular, and Bailey is a nerdy TeachersPet. Though she doesn't show it often, she does genuinely care about both of her "loser" best friends.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She works out, and turns into a volleyball ''fiend'' if sufficiently pissed off. Also, if you break her purse, she will beat you up.
* CuckooSnarker: She may be incredibly stupid and ditzy, but even she has her snarky moments.
-->'''London:''' (''after seeing Maddie's pitiful attempt at a push-up'') Okay that was the ''push''. Next time let's work on the ''up''.
-->'''Maddie:''' Can we go back to my hair?
-->'''London:''' Yes. It's as weak and brittle as you.
* DarkFeminineLightFeminine: The Dark Feminine to Maddie's Light. She's a SpoiledBrat fashionista who's a RichBitch at worst and InnocentlyInsensitive at best.
* TheDitz: She may be one of the most idiotic girls on TV.
* DreadfulMusician: In one episode, it's revealed that she's a horrible singer.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Played with. When she first gets behind the wheel of a car she crashes it through the Tipton. However, the same episode has her later driving a car without getting involved in an accident and the worst thing that happens is a police officer pulling her over for going ''too slow''. It's noted that the first time she crashed a car was due to Moseby's unnecessary badgering of her and she is otherwise a capable driver.
* DudeMagnet: She has a high number of boys who are attracted to her or want to impress her, including Lance, Todd, Marcus, and [[Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace both Russo brothers]].
* DumbassHasAPoint: She said that law “Is something you get to break if you’re rich.” Considering how rich people [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney constantly evade the law]], she’s not exactly wrong.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: One of Maddie's classmates, Corrie, has an obvious girl crush on London.
* ExpelledFromEveryOtherSchool: Being wealthy, she'd been sent to rich private schools, until she was expelled from each of them for never showing up. The same thing happened after a while going to Maddie's Catholic school, resulting in her being sent to public school.
* ExpyCoexistence: She's based on Paris Hilton, but the actual Paris Hilton is also mentioned by name in several episodes.
* TheFashionista: [[UnlimitedWardrobe Rarely wears an outfit more than twice]].
-->'''London:''' My motto is, "Wear it a day, throw it away."
* FatalFlaw: Stupidity, especially after the first season. Her lack of intelligence causes her to make poorly thought-out decisions that cause problems for her and everyone around her.
* {{Flanderization}}: Started out more as a somewhat shallow, rich-girl stereotype trying to avoid real work at all costs, but as the series progressed moved firmly into the BrainlessBeauty category.
* {{Foil}}: In both of the series she appears in, she tends to contrast the female character she's paired up with.
** In ''Zack and Cody'' she contrasts her best friend Maddie, since London is a lazy AsianAirhead SpoiledBrat who can be a RichBitch at her worst but shows a nicer side on occasion, while Maddie is a hard-working, intelligent, sweet, and [[GoGetterGirl driven]] lower-class girl who sometimes has a bit of a mean streak.
** In ''On Deck,'' she contrasts her roommate Bailey, with London being the bratty CityMouse GirlyGirl to Bailey's AllLovingHero CountryMouse {{Tomboy}}.
* ForgotAboutHerPowers: It's sorta weird to see London suddenly be so massively out-of-shape that she needs help from ''Zack'' of all people to help her get back into shape, considering the previous series had her helping Maddie get back in shape. They even recycled the 'chasing after fashion' joke.
* FreudianExcuse: Whenever someone calls London on her poor behavior, she cites her father's bad example.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: While she's popular and has many admirers (both [[DudeMagnet male]] and [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer female]]), she can be this among her closest friends, as she often annoys them with her lack of tact, incompetence, and self-centered behavior. She has a VitriolicBestBuds dynamic with all the people she hangs out with. It's especially true in On Deck, where she's only really kept around because she's Bailey's roommate.
* GeniusDitz: She's a good chess player. This pissed Maddie off because only SmartPeoplePlayChess.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: London is a prissy AsianAirhead [[TheFashionista fashionista]] who is materialistic and obsessed with shopping, but she is very physically adept, being good at martial arts and working out regularly. The tomboy streak was phased out in the sequel series, however, with {{Flanderization}} making her suddenly so incompetent at physical activity that she needed Zack to help her get back into shape.
* HiddenDepths:
** London on occasion shows this, along with some ObfuscatingStupidity and DeadpanSnarker moments, most noticeable during an episode where the main cast got stuck on an island and had to fend for themselves. London, seemingly in shock from the event, thought they were at a beach resort. That is, until they were safely back on the cruise liner and mentioned off hand that it was her way to get out of the manual labor.
** In the ChristmasEpisode, London goes through a YetAnotherChristmasCarol plot. This episode reveals that London was a good kid until the bitterness about her dad never being around for Christmas (or any other time for that matter) got to her.
** During the first two seasons of ''The Suite Life'', London is shown to be into martial arts, yoga, and feng shui, and is also a latent chess champion ("Smart and Smarter"). In later seasons, though, her character is significantly dumbed down.
** In one episode when her father goes broke, at first she struggles and is miserable living with Maddie, but she adapts rather quickly and becomes happy.
** In ''The Suite Life on Deck'', she is chosen by her father to give a speech at the revealing of the Amulet of Aphrodite in a museum. She is able to give a rather impressive one she came up with herself:
-->'''London:''' Legend says that this amulet was given by Zeus to his daughter Aphrodite. Perhaps it's 'cause she was beautiful. Like me! [...] I'd like to think I know what it was like to walk in her shoes. I mean, everyone thought she was just a pretty girl with a powerful daddy, but turns out, she was more than that. I really think Zeus gave her the amulet because he was proud of her, just as I'm proud to represent my daddy today. So, even though that amulet is 2000 years old, the emotion behind it is eternal, and I think that's what museums do: they remind us that people then and people now aren't so different after all. Thank you!
** In ''The Suite Life on Deck'', she taught herself how to sleep with her eyes open, she knew Cody was lying because of a tell she noticed, and when she was forbidden from texting, she busied her hands by writing a letter to her friend, in ''calligraphy''.
** One for a spin-off that doesn't actually feature her but occurs ''because'' of her. Moseby was likely fired after his words to Mr. Tipton at the end of ''The Suite Life on Deck''. Where is he in ''Jessie?'' He's ''working at another Tipton Hotel'' meaning London probably put in a good word to get him his job back, or just gave it him back herself if he was fired -- she ''is'' going to own the chain of Hotels one day, so she can do what she likes!
** There are also quite a few episodes dealing with London being a LonelyRichKid.
* InterclassFriendship:
** Maddie and London are close friends, despite London being a spoiled InnocentlyInsensitive ValleyGirl hotel heiress and Maddie being a [[NewJobAsThePlotDemands multi-employed]] sarcastic candy counter girl from a poor family.
** This also happens between London and Bailey, a small-town farm girl, in ''The Suite Life On Deck''.
** London is also good friends with Zack and Cody themselves (whose mother works at London's hotel as the lounge singer).
* InsufferableImbecile: She is a wealthy, vain, illiterate AsianAirhead.
-->'''London:''' And I use a hundred dollar bills instead of... however many one dollar bills that would be.
* ItsAllAboutMe: "Yay me!"
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's often self-obsessed and shallow, but on occasion, she does show that she cares about and appreciates the people who are close to her.
* KarmicButtMonkey: In the 3 part episode "Twister", London suffers a quite a few AmusingInjuries and goes through many other mishaps. But considering she was going to leave Bailey stranded to have their cabin to herself, has been cruel and insensitive to her, and many others, and has tried to hurt or get rid of Bailey throughout the series, it is very well deserved on her part.
* LethallyStupid: At times, her ineptness ends up getting Maddie injured, and it's not just the latter who falls victim to this either; "Orchestra" has her causing the other employees' injuries thanks to her incompetence at her job.
* LonelyRichKid: Because her father is never around. When she was growing, she started to cover the emptiness her father created when she discovered shopping as Maddie discovered in Kisses & Basketball, London buys things she doesn't need only to cover the emptiness in her heart. Her habit doesn't noticeably lessen and is never mentioned again. Despite her wealth and outward happiness, she is miserable, because her father never appeared when she needed him, such as when the Tipton family lose all of their money in the episode Poor Little Rich Girl, and during the father-daughter dance at London's school in the episode The Prince & The Plunger.
* LovableAlphaBitch: She has some RichBitch tendencies, but she became too stupid to be considered a true AlphaBitch.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: London has a slender body and isn't any more muscular than Maddie, but she's shown to be by far the stronger of the two, easily lifting magazines and shopping bags that Maddie can barely lift over the ground. She says that is because she works out.
-->'''Maddie:''' How did you get so strong?!\
'''London:''' I work out. I’ve been trained by some of the top professionals. I’d make my own video, but why should anyone else look this good?
* NeverLearnedToRead: As a result of being undereducated her whole life and completely lazy, she doesn't know how to read or write. She didn't even manage to learn the alphabet until she was well into her teens.
-->'''London:''' You never gave up on me when I was learning the alphabet!\
'''Moseby:''' But that took 14 years!\
'''London:''' And now I know my [=ABDs=].
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Dumb hotel heiress whose first name is a famous capitol of an European country. Who could that possibly be a reference to? It's even {{Lampshaded}} at one point:
-->'''Sister Dominick:''' No, the spoiled hotel heiress!\
'''London:''' Is Paris Hilton in this class?\
'''Sister Dominick:''' No, I'm talking about you.
* NoodleIncident:
** In "Election," she not-very-subtly hints that she got rid of the person who used to be the hotel's manager before Moseby by dumping him on a cargo ship to South America to spend the rest of his miserable life working in the copper mines. Fortunately for him, Moseby's position is a lot more secure.
** She has a restraining order from Creator/OrlandoBloom for an unknown incident.
* ProperlyParanoid: London records all of her conversations with everyone as revealed in "Mean Chicks". In the same episode, she most likely did this in case Bailey attempts to rescind their bet.
* RichBitch: Very selfish and spoiled, and tends to look down on lower-class people.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: She stopped believing Justin Russo from ''Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace'' was a doctor when he failed to offer medical help despite it not being the kind of doctor he was pretending to be.
* SpoiledBrat: She ''used'' to behave sweetly, until the absence of her father among other things changed her.
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: Poor London. The later seasons [[{{Flanderization}} make this a lot worse.]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: She seems to think that rich people are above the law.
--> '''London:''' Oh! 'Law' is something you get to break if you're rich!
** [[TruthInTelevision This does unfortunately hold some truth;]] many minor crimes are punishable by fine as opposed to jail time, so if you’re as rich as she is then even a large fine is barely a drop in the bucket for her.
* StatusQuoIsGod: Any time London finds a boyfriend, he'll be forgotten by the next episode, even if things seemed to be going well between them.
* StereotypeFlip: London inverts the typical Asian stereotypes completely by being an AsianAirhead. Additionally, she is an UpperClassTwit SpoiledBrat, while usually the spoiled socialites are blonder.
* TenderTomboyishnessFoulFemininity: Rich fashionista London acts like a SpoiledBrat, while physically adept AcademicAthlete Bailey is very friendly.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the fashionable SpoiledBrat Girly Girl to Bailey's athletic and science-oriented CountryMouse Tomboy.
* TookALevelInDumbass: In the later seasons of the original series, and then ''again'' on The Suite Life on Deck.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: She never wears the same outfit twice. In the SLOD episode "Splash and Trash", she even says she throws the outfit away after wearing it.
* UpperClassTwit: If she was a bit crueler and considerably smarter she might qualify as the RichBitch, but her self-absorption seems to stem more from being one of the stupidest characters on television than any intentional malevolence.
* VitriolicBestBuds: She has this dynamic with Maddie. She makes fun of Maddie for her fashion sense and her poverty, but she does genuinely care about her and they're close friends.
* WomanChild: Although she's a legal adult by ''The Suite Life On Deck'', London clearly has a childish mindset, and is easily convinced, distracted, and entertained by things far below what's typical for her age.

[[folder:Mr. Marion Moseby]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/PhillLewis

Marion Moseby runs the Tipton hotel and tries to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The presence of Zack and Cody make this job very difficult.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''M'''arion '''M'''oseby
* AmbiguouslyGay: He 'was' characterized this way, [[CharacterizationMarchesOn before]] [[spoiler: his romance with Tutweiller in "On Deck."]]
* BerserkButton: Disorder, especially in his hotel. ''No running in his hallway!''
* BirdsOfAFeather: [[spoiler: Both he and Tutweiller were social rejects in high school and carry their bitterness about it into adulthood. In a rather sweet moment, they dance together at the boat's Prom and are shown as their younger selves.]]
* BlackAndNerdy: In flashbacks to his youth especially, he's an over-the-top geek.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Downplayed, most of the time he's the only sane man, although the constant madness in his hotel does take his toll on him. That said, Moseby is excellent at his job.
* ButtMonkey: Mr. Moseby's smug/curmudgeonly mannerisms aside, he most certainly has his hands full between managing the hotel and keeping the twins, Maddie, London and the other main characters in check, and certainly deep down cares for his friends and residents. He also takes a great amount of the pratfalls and humiliation when things go wrong, and has to deal with Mr. Tipton's domineering on a regular basis. It doesn't get much better on ''The Suite Life on Deck.'' And by the time of ''Jessie'', all those years of the twins' antics had an effect on him. When he makes a call to Cody, who wants to pay a visit, he gives an OhCrap indicating that he still finds it hard to believe they are grown adults and not the hooligans he knew.
* TheCameo: He makes an appearance in season four episode of ''Series/{{Jessie}}'', ''Karate Kid-tastrophe'', where he gives advice to the titular character on how to take care of kids and even notes [[ActorAllusion how Jessie resembles Bailey]].
* CampStraight: Mentions many times how he used to show feminine interests (such as ballet and cheerleading, the latter of which he was the captain), [[spoiler:and ends up marrying Mrs. Tutweiller at the end of the ''On Deck'' series]].
* CharacterCatchphrase:
** "Good luck with ''that''!" Once berated an actor portraying him for placing the emphasis on the wrong word.
** He also tends to say or yell [[IWantMyMommy "momma"]].
** "[[HatesBeingTouched Don't touch me! Don't touch me!]]"
** "NO X IN MY LOBBY!"
** [[BigShutUp "Zip, zip, ZIP!"]]
* ComicallySerious: A lot of his humor is derived from his sarcastic remarks.
* TheDandy: As the elegant manager, he always wears suits.
* DeadpanSnarker: He's one of the snarkiest characters on the show. And considering who he has to deal with on a regular basis, who can blame him?
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Marion.
* EternalEmployee: Mr. Moseby seems to be working for Mr. Tipton 24/7 when not forced to do something else.
* EyeBeams: As The Meanager in "Super Twins".
* {{Flanderization}}: From a stern, uptight DeanBitterman to a fussy neurotic mess who's the member of a pocket hanky club.
* GenderBlenderName: Marion is not a common male name.
* HatesBeingTouched: To a point where he even dedicates a catchphrase to this.
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: In "Big Hair and Baseball", he mentions having practiced ballet as a young man. When some other, "manlier" men start making fun on him, he replies "Mock me if you will, but I was the only boy among twenty pretty girls! Momma didn't raise no fool." The other men have to admit he has a point. In one episode of ''The Suite Life on Deck'', he is mocked for his pink jacket. He initially insists that it is "salmon colored", but later admits "Actually, it's pink. But a ''real'' man can pull it off."
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being uptight, stern, and often annoyed by Zack and Cody's antics, he's actually a nice person.
* LastNameBasis: Usually called by his last name, Moseby.
* LikeADaughterToMe: He does feel quite strong for London.
* MarriedToTheJob: Implied that he is happily unmarried. London even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this in one episode of ''The Suite Life on Deck'' when she walks by Mr. Moseby's cabin and, hearing a strange noise inside (Mr. Moseby is playing a piano, it turns out), says, "That's weird. Usually, when I go by Mr. Moseby's cabin, I hear, 'Mother, for the hundredth time, I'm married to my job!'" [[spoiler:This changes near the end of the series, however, as he and Ms. Tutweiller become an OfficialCouple.]]
* TheNapoleon: He is frequently mocked by his short stature, being played by 1.68 m Phil Lewis, but is very {{Angrish}} and short-tempered.
* NoRespectGuy: Zig-zagged. He can be quite intimidating when he wants to be, but since he is a genuinely nice guy deep down, the twins do what they want to do regardless. This carries over to ''Suite Life on Deck''.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Ms. Tutweiller towards the end of the series. He proposes to her at the GrandFinale.]]
* OnlySaneMan: In the original series he shares this role with Maddie and Carey, because they are saner than the other main characters. In the sequel series, he has this role to himself.
* ParentalSubstitute: For London. It's discussed and shown throughout both series that he's been the main parental figure in her life, with her distant parents and interchangeable nannies. In the episode where London is learning to drive, we find out that Moseby actually taught her how to walk as well as tying her shoes, riding a bike and roller-skating. She then comments that he has been in the Tipton family album more than her father or any of his ex-wives. They exchange the occasional tender moment when London is missing her parents. Other characters notice this too:
-->'''London:''' Why should I get something for Moseby? I mean, what has he ever done for me?
-->'''Bailey:''' ''({{Beat}})'' Raised you like you were his own daughter?
-->'''London:''' Look at me. I'm selfish and spoiled. He did a terrible job. ''({{Beat}})'' Fine. But tomorrow I'm gonna be extra selfish!
* RageBreakingPoint: "Bon Voyage".
-->'''Moseby:''' (is soaking wet) You kids! My underwater lounge is now completely '''underwater!!!''' [...] No, it's not good! It's ruined! I have put up with a ''lot'' from you hooligans, but this time you have crossed the line! Mr. Tipton is ''furious'' and so am I! ''Whoever'' has done this, ''whoever'' is responsible, will be expelled immediately and kicked off of this ship! (leaves furiously).
* RealMenWearPink: In "The Play's the Thing", he cites this regarding his salmon/pink jacket.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Moseby is very loyal to the Tipton Industries, and is also a good father figure to London.
* RunningGag: In ''The Suite Life of Zack and Cody'', he would usually find himself doing or saying something embarrassing in front of a hotel guest.
* ScaryBlackMan: {{Subverted}}. While he is rather intimidating to the kids (even [[Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace Alex Russo]] was afraid of Moseby), he usually means well, even if he is rather stern. He does play it straight as the Meanager.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: When startled, which he gets quite easily.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: In "Benchwarmers", he's the CampStraight cheerleading coach to Coach Little's giant, no-nonsense basketball coach.
* SitcomArchNemesis: He's endlessly annoyed with ''all'' of the kids, but especially with Zack due to his constant pranks and schemes.
* StereotypeFlip: Mr. Moseby, who is black, is an uptight hotel manager who speaks with a refined vernacular.
* SuddenlyShouting: He has a tendency to do this.
* TokenMinority: Moseby is the only consistent black cast member every season of both shows.
* UltimateJobSecurity: Probably forever. Even after talking back to Mr. Tipton in "Graduation", Moseby later has a job at the New York branch of the Tipton Hotel as shown in ''Series/{{Jessie}}''. Probably because of London.

!!Characters in ''The Suite Life of Zack & Cody''

[[folder:Carey Martin]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/KimRhodes
[[quoteright:292:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carrie_slozac.jpg]]

Carey is the single mother of the twins who works as the Tipton's lounge singer.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: She constantly embarrasses her sons by being affectionate to them in public and generally tries to get involved in their social lives, much to their dismay.
* AmicableExes: She and Kurt are on relatively good terms. By the time of the finale of ''Suite Life on Deck'' this has changed a little, as when Kurt asks if she wants one of his [=CD=]s she says, "No. Some child support would be nice."
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is usually good to her sons but has no problem grounding them whenever they do something bad.
* BigEater: In "Miniature Golf", she appears to excessively enjoy donuts and other sweets.
* BoyishShortHair: Her hairstyle in the first two seasons.
* ConsistentClothingStyle: Carey tends to wear jeans, a top and a patterned cardigan and cocktail dresses for her performances.
* DeadpanSnarker: Probably the most prolific snarker along with Maddie and Moseby.
* GoodParents: Carey loves her sons and always does her best to be a good mother to them. She also on occasion serves as a parental figure to London, whose biological parents frequently neglect her, and to Maddie.
* LethalChef: It is said that she doesn't cook or cooks badly.
* MamaBear: There's no doubt in the mind that she will protect her sons.
-->'''Carey:''' Esteban, do you like nature films?\
'''Esteban:''' Oh, I love nature films.\
'''Carey:''' Did you ever seen the one in how the mother bear cares for her cubs?\
'''Esteban:''' London's driving [Zack] and Maddie to math camp. Please don't eat me!
* MsFanservice: Being a singer at the Tipton's night lounge, she gets to wear a number of flattering evening gowns.
* OnlySaneWoman: Often seen as the voice of reason, especially when it comes to her kids.
* ReallyGetsAround: She tells stories of her ex-boyfriends to her boys so often, they predict how they will end.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Carey is a good mother to her kids, listens to their concerns, and gives them advice if necessary.
* TwoFirstNames: "Martin" can also be a first name.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Madeline "Maddie" Fitzpatrick]]
->'''Played by:''' Music/AshleyTisdale
[[quoteright:292:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maddie_slozac.jpg]]

Maddie works as the candy counter girl in the Tipton. She is smart, hardworking, and sweet, but can be snarky and short-tempered at times.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: In season 3, despite being still credited as a main character, she barely appears in half the episodes.
* AgentScully: {{Downplayed}} because the show isn't necessarily a science-fiction or fantasy show, but it does have MagicalRealism elements, such as ghosts. Meanwhile, Maddie is an adamant nonbeliever. This is particularly demonstrated in "The Ghost of Suite 613," where Maddie insists that the titular ghost does not exist because ghosts aren't real.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: She spends an entire episode trying to beat London in chess and she only wins when London lets her win.
* AmbiguouslyChristian: Maddie attends Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow, a Catholic school. At least one or two references to God have been made within said school. In one episode, Maddie is shown to know the biblical tradition behind Christmas. She also mentions, after getting frustrated with the bad acting of everyone in her student film, that she can't describe exactly what she feels about the production because she'd have to go to confession, which implies that she is Catholic. Her full OverlyLongName includes the names of several Catholic saints, as well.
* AnimalLover: As part of her environmentally conscious attitude, she cares a lot about animals. Most notably, she spent a few months in Antarctica to save the penguins. She also staged a protest against Mr. Moseby's attempts to get rid of the hawk who was living in a nest on top of the Tipton in "Birdman of Boston."
* AthleticallyChallenged: She's not good at Physical Education, is physically weaker than London, and needs London's help in order to not fail gym.
* TheBartender: A G-rated version, as she sells candy and not alcohol, but she often listens to other people's problems and gives advice at her candy counter. Not that her advice is always listened to.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Maddie is generally very nice and friendly, but she has a temper and has gone to surprisingly cruel lengths to get revenge. Sometimes, it's justified, but sometimes, she goes too far, and when she realizes she's gone too far, she'll try her best to fix her mistakes and make up for them.
* BookSmart: She's a model student at her Catholic school. Her academic knowledge often makes her a foil to [[BrainlessBeauty London]].
* ButtMonkey: If something bad will happen, it WILL happen to her. If there's someone to blame for anything, it will be her. Especially when she's trying to keep London or the twins out of trouble. Or when trying to teach London or the twins a lesson.
* CoolKidAndLoserFriendship: Has this with [[AlphaBitch London.]] She's more academically oriented and unpopular, and London is a very popular RichBitch, and yet they are best friends.
* DarkFeminineLightFeminine: The Light Feminine to London's Dark. She has a lot of feminine interests, such as romance and shopping, and she's considerably nicer and more down-to-earth than [[SpoiledBrat London]], although she does have a bit of a mean streak.
* DeadpanSnarker: One of the snarkiest members of the show. She especially snarks at London's stupidity and the twins' antics.
* DudeMagnet: She has caught the eye of many guys throughout the show, Zack has a persistent PrecociousCrush on her, and she has had a lot of love interests.
* DumbBlonde:
** Deliberately {{subverted}} as Music/AshleyTisdale was asked to dye her naturally brown hair blonde so they could provide an inversion of the Dumb Blonde, Smart Asian stereotypes. As such, [[AsianAirhead London]] embodies every characteristic of the dumb blonde apart from the actual hair color while Maddie is a good student, very logical, and has the most common sense out of all the characters.
** However, "The Suite Smell of Excess" features an alternate reality where Maddie's and London's roles are swapped, with Maddie being the hotel heiress and London being the candy counter girl. Here, the trope is played straight with Maddie, so much so that she makes the main series' London look like a genius.
* DysfunctionalFamily: Her whole family lives together in one apartment, including her five-years-unemployed father and her mother (who hate one another but because they're Catholic can't get a divorce), her senile grandmother, and her shitbag of a little brother. Her other grandmother who lives in Portland seems to be the only member who supports her.
* EnragedByIdiocy: {{Downplayed}}, but one thing that consistently seems to irritate or anger her is stupidity, especially from [[AsianAirhead London.]] Most times, she just snarks about London's idiocy, but there are many instances when she legitimately gets pissed off when London does something foolish. She'll direct her anger at Zack and Cody too whenever they do something shortsighted and dumb.
-->'''London:''' Can't believe we got kicked out of my own hotel! I'm calling daddy.\
'''Maddie:''' Not your hotel. It's a set! Make believe.\
'''London:''' Make believe what?\
'''Maddie:''' ''(seethingly sarcastic)'' That you have a brain!
* EternalEmployee: Until season 3, Maddie is the only one seen working the candy counter, even though logically there should be other people working there, particularly when she's at school. This is averted in season 3, however, due to Ashley Tisdale needing to film ''Film/HighSchoolMusical2'', we see Millicent and Nia taking up candy counter shifts.
* FatalFlaw: Wrath. Most of the time when Maddie causes the episode conflict and is in the wrong, her actions were caused by her losing her temper. Her worse actions typically are done in a fit of pique.
* {{Foil}}: To London. While London is a lazy AsianAirhead SpoiledBrat who can be a RichBitch at her worst but shows a nicer side on occasion, Maddie is a hard-working, intelligent, sweet, and driven lower-class girl who sometimes has a bit of a mean streak.
* GirlyGirl: Maddie enjoys fashion--in a season 1 episode, she qualifies as a finalist for a fashion magazine against [[TheFashionista London]], and in "That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana," she's easily able to identify that a blouse Raven is wearing was designed by fashion designer Donna Cabonna--and shopping, and she's a huge romantic, with a fondness for romance novels like ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice.'' She's also good with kids, and much of her casual wardrobe is [[PinkIsFeminine pink]]. Her girliness is part of why she's able to get along with London despite their very different backgrounds and personalities.
* GoGetterGirl: She's a very driven young woman. She gets straight A's in school, does community service, participates in various of her school's committees, and has ambitions to go to law school.
* GoodWithNumbers: Maddie is skilled at doing complicated calculations on the fly. In the first episode, she calculates the change she owes to a customer, including the coupons and the discounts that the customer has, so quickly that she beats the cash register.
* GranolaGirl: {{Downplayed}}. She champions many liberal and green causes. For instance, when Mr. Moseby chased a hawk that had built its nest at the Tipton, Maddie held multiple protests right after her shift was over. However, she's generally more uptight and short-tempered than the usual archetype.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's a young, kind-hearted, and idealistic girl who has blonde hair.
* HairTriggerTemper: {{Downplayed}} but it doesn't take much for her to get angry or frustrated. It doesn't help that she's usually stuck as the OnlySaneMan to the twins' or London's nonsense.
* HatesRichPeople: {{Downplayed}} as she is close friends with London, but she still generally sees rich people as inherently selfish and constantly calls London out for being spoiled rotten.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She often calls London out on her spoiled behavior, but she has shown time and time again that she can be just as much an entitled brat as London.
** She once refused to date a guy in one episode because of how he looks, and London had to remind Maddie that she's usually the one who reminds her not to judge a book by its cover and that it's not about how someone looks on the outside, it's about who they are in the inside.
* InterclassFriendship: Maddie and London are close friends, despite London being a spoiled InnocentlyInsensitive UpperClassTwit hotel heiress and Maddie being a [[NewJobAsThePlotDemands multi-employed]] sarcastic candy counter girl from a poor family.
* IronButtMonkey: Of the main cast of the ''Suite Life'' series, she has suffered the most physical mishaps, especially when she's around [[LethallyStupid London]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: {{Downplayed}}. She is generally a NiceGirl, but she's sarcastic, short-tempered, judgmental, bossy, and has a selfish side. Her niceness isn't [[BitchInSheepsClothing an act]], and she is genuinely a good-hearted person, but those negative qualities keep her from being a straight example of a NiceGirl.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: She mentions spending time counting her siblings in "Foiled Again," and in "Maddie On Deck," she specifically states that she has twelve siblings.
* MsViceGirl: Maddie is genuinely a kind-hearted and altruistic person who cares about her friends and about making the world a better place, but frequently her short temper gets the better of her, and she's often very sarcastic, critical, and stubborn.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: While she usually is seen working the candy counter, throughout the series, she has juggled other jobs such as line cook/mascot at the Cluck Bucket, daycare employee at Camp Tipton, and a camp counselor at a summer camp.
* NoRespectGuy: Despite being one of the most intelligent and levelheaded characters in the series, she's still TheChewToy and doesn't get much respect, especially from London.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she usually is the OnlySaneMan who tries to keep the twins and London in line, she's had multiple moments where she joins in on and even instigates wacky antics and zany schemes.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Everyone calls her Maddie. Only Moseby calls her Madeline.
* OnlySaneWoman: Since she always finds herself hanging out with [[TheDitz London]], this is a given.
* OutOfFocus: In season 3, because Ashley Tisdale was filming ''Film/HighSchoolMusical2''.
* OverlyLongName: Madeline Margaret Genevieve Miranda Catherine Fitzpatrick, but you can call her Maddie.
* SoapboxSadie: Shows shades of this, such as her "save the hawk" protest. She's dedicated to several social justice causes, such as environmental activism, feminism, and helping the poor.
* StereotypeFlip: Maddie inverts the DumbBlonde stereotype by being smart and hard-working. She also comes from a working-class background to further underscore her as a {{foil}} to London.
* StrawFeminist: Early in the show's run.
* TeachersUnfavoriteStudent: Sister Dominick seems to always have it out for Maddie, constantly blaming her for things that aren't her fault, always looking for the worst way to misinterpret Maddie's actions, and blatantly favoring London over her despite London being an incredibly bad student. Maddie just cannot catch a break with this nun.
* TenderTomboyishnessFoulFemininity: {{Downplayed}} with Maddie and her ContrastingReplacementCharacter Bailey in the sequel series as both are generally nice girls, and Bailey isn't overtly masculine. But Bailey is more tomboyish than Maddie, while Maddie is a straight-up GirlyGirl, and Maddie is snarkier, bossy, and has a mean streak and a short temper, while Bailey is more consistently sweet and even-tempered.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B. Maddie is generally a sweet and caring person, unless [[RichBitch London]] is around for her to snark and lob insults at.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Her relationship with London. She insults London a lot for her stupidity and her spoiled nature, but she does genuinely care about her and considers her as a best friend.
* WorkingClassHero: Maddie comes from a poor family with a father who's five years unemployed. Her whole family, including her grandmother, her father, her mother, and her twelve siblings, including her younger brother, Liam, all live together in one apartment. She also mentions that her aunt's wedding was catered by a charity, with the wedding registry being at a pawn shop. She primarily works at the candy counter--which is implied to not pay her all that much--to help her family make ends meet as well as to buy herself or other family members little luxuries on occasion, but at various points in the show works other jobs alongside her job at the Tipton, such as working as a line cook and mascot at the Cluck Bucket. As a result, she takes a lot of pride in working to earn money and is disdainful of rich people and their privileged attitudes. She also champions helping the poor, volunteering at events to help out the impoverished.

Esteban is the bellboy at the Tipton who is a good friend of Zack and Cody. He later becomes assistant manager of the hotel. He owns a pet chicken named Dudley.

* CatchPhrase: "This is a disaster!" and "Oh Mr. Moseby!"
* FunnyForeigner: He speaks in a strong unidentified Spanish accent, that it’s hard to tell which Latin American country he is from.
* LargeHam: He can be very dramatic at times.
* LimitedWardrobe: He is almost always seen in his hotel uniform. Even after a baby peed it. In the first two seasons, the number of times he is shown out of his uniform can be counted on one hand. And one of those was a fantasy. By the time of ''Suite Life on Deck'', he’s upgraded to a suit because he got promoted to assistant manager.
* NiceGuy: Often proves to be a helpful and loyal friend. The boys call him "The nicest guy in the whole world."
* OverlyLongName: Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya de la Rosa Ramirez. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in the episode with the jewel thieves.
-->'''Esteban:''' Nobody calls Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya de la Rosa Ramirez a thief!
-->'''Zack:''' No one's got the time!
* RecurringCharacter: Aside from the main cast, he's the character who appears in more episodes (45 exactly).
* UndyingLoyalty: Sometimes to Mr. Moseby. Later episodes downplay this, though.

Arwin is the dorky hotel engineer who has a crush on Carey.
----
* AbsurdPhobia: He‘s afraid of bowling to the point that mentioning the word is enough to terrify him.
* BasementDweller: Alternately lived with his mother and in the basement of the Tipton until near the end of season 3.
* BunglingInventor: Most of his inventions malfunction and wreak havoc.
%%* ButtMonkey
* DitzyGenius: He's a very good inventor and hotel engineer, but he's a little deficient in common sense.
* DoggedNiceGuy: To Carey.
%%* LargeHam
* ManChild: Is often childish, sleeps with a sock monkey, and eats a lunch packed by his mother.
* MommasBoy: He lived with his mother for his whole life until she was married.
* NiceGuy: Despite his eccentricities, he's a nice person and gets along well with both the twins.
* StalkerWithACrush: To Carey.
* TraumaButton: His unfortunate bowling incident that involved his mother being hit over the head with a bowling ball is what prompted him to relinquish his bowling attire. Since then, the slightest utter of the word causes him to go on a nervous breakdown-inducing scream.

One of the twins' most recurring friends. A dorky nerd and CasanovaWannabe who can be as fun-loving as Zack but also is studious like Cody.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: When he thinks Zack is asking him out, he accepts it.
* AscendedExtra: He was just a one-shot character in the first season, but becomes a semi-regular in Season 2.
* TheBusCameBack: He appears in one episode of ''On Deck'' with Barbara.
* DemotedToExtra: He appeared quite frequently in Season 2, playing a big role in a few episodes. But in Season 3, he appeared in only two episodes, playing a minor role in each.
* FieryRedhead: He comes across as this on occasion.
* {{Kidanova}}: Not to the extent of Zack, but he has been shown to be this.
* LIsForDyslexia: He suffers from dyslexia, as stated in his debut appearance.
* PairTheSpares: When he appears in "On Deck", Bob became Barbara's boyfriend.

[[folder:Sister Dominick]]
->'''Played by:''' Marianne Muellerleile
A nun that serves as a teacher at Maddie’s catholic school, Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow. She is favors London while harshly punishes Maddie.
----
* BerserkButton: Being insulted. She gives Maddie detention after finding out she called her “mean”. In a later episode she gets mad because she heard a recording of Maddie calling her a “darn nun” out of frustration.
* EvilIsPetty: In her first appearance she gives Maddie detention just because London said that Maddie told her she was mean (which she is).
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She actually treated both Maddie and London bad at first but after they try to break out of detention London (truthfully) admits that she forced Maddie to go along with it but Dominick thought London was just taking the fall for Maddie. So she let London go while keeping Maddie’s punishment and she’s seen London as an angel ever since to the point of making up excuses to justify London or paint her as an Angel while looking for any excuse to see the bad in Maddie.
-> (Dominick to Maddie regarding London) You could learn a thing or two from this girl.
* InsaneTrollLogic: After London is revealed to have purposely stolen Maddie’s story, she instead punishes MADDIE for “tempting” her. Then gives MADDIE detention.
* {{Jerkass}}: A major one to Maddie, and most of her other students besides London.
* NunTooHoly: She is mean spirited and blatantly favors one student while harshly punishes another.
* SadistTeacher: Her first appearance has her giving a student an F on a paper for missing a comma. In another episode she (initially) gives London and Maddie an A+ on their “take care of a baby” assignment because they destroyed their doll and stated they aren’t ready to be parents, which was the point of the assignment.
* TookALevelInKindness: In Season 3, while still harsh, she's shown to be treating Maddie more fairly.

Max is the tomboyish friend of Zack and Cody.
----
* TheAce: Max is a great dancer, basketball player, and bass player.
* BerserkButton:
** Saying anything to misgender her seems to be a huge one for her, as Zack learned.
** And dating her just for a team's benefit is another one, as Zack also learned.
* BetterAsFriends: With Zack.
* CannotTellAJoke: In her later appearances, this becomes a prominent part of her personality.
* DancingIsSeriousBusiness: And don't tell Max otherwise.
* DemotedToExtra: After the 1st season, she appears less, only appearing in two episodes in Season 2, and never appearing in Season 3.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Zack.
* GirlinessUpgrade: Over the series, she becomes much girlier, though she still retains her love for sports.
* GirlishPigtails: Subverted, she usually wears pigtails in Season 1 but she isn't girly at all.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Due to flanderization after her initial appearance, she can be quite harsh, but is still a good friend to the twins.
* LittleMissSnarker: Occasionally.
* NiceGirl: In her first appearance. After that she suffered some unfortunate flanderization.
* OneOfTheBoys: She's only seen hanging out with Zack, Cody, and Tapeworm.
* OnlyOneName: Her last name is never revealed.
* RunningGag: Mr. Moseby would always confuse her for a boy.
* SheCleansUpNicely: As noted by Zack once they go out on a date.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Tapeworm in Season 1, and Agnes in Season 2.
* {{Tomboy}}: She's athletic, usually wears boyish outfits, and all her best friends are boys.
* TomboyishBaseballCap: Is frequently seen with this towards the beginning of the series.
* TomboyishName: Max. Many fans think it's short for Maxine, but this is never discussed

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Despite being built up as one of Zack and Cody's best friends, Tapeworm is not seen after the first season, with no explanation of his disappearance. He would be more or less replaced by Bob later on.
* KnownOnlyByTheirNickname: "Tapeworm" is not his real name. That name was coined when he ate 20 hotdogs in two minutes, as mentioned by Max. His real name was [[NoNameGiven never revealed]].
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Max, prior to his disappearance.
* VagueAge: Though he's implied to be Zack and Cody's age, it's not made clear due to the fact that his actor is a couple years their senior (14 at the time) and is much taller than them.

* CatchPhrase: "Agnes likes."
* CharacterDevelopment: In her final apperance, she's able to interact with the twins as a friend and accept that there's nothing more than that while still being confident.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Doesn't appear after the second season.
* QuirkyCurls: Blonde, curly hair and a quirky personality.

Barbara was Cody's girlfriend from Boston. When Cody was accepted into Seven Seas High, the two broke up and Barbara started seeing Bob.
----
* AllAsiansKnowKungFu: In "A Tale of Two Houses", Barbara mentions having a black belt in Karate to warn Cody against going too far with her.
* AmicableExes: Though there is some tension between the two of them after Barbara is revealed to be dating Bob, Cody and Barbara ultimately clear the air and end as friends.
* AsianAndNerdy: She is Japanese-American and is on par with Cody when it comes to academics.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: In "Graduation", she injures Cody twice for being selected as school valedictorian over her. She tries to do it a third time but ended up hurting herself as Cody decided to wear steel-toe shoes.
* JewishAndNerdy: She mentions taking Bar Mitzvah lessons in "Club Twin" and has a protractor she got for Hanukkah in "Miniature Golf".
* PromotedToLoveInterest: Barbara started out as a minor character on the show before becoming Cody's girlfriend.
* TwoferTokenMinority: Asian and Jewish.

[[folder:Janice and Jessica Ellis]]
->'''Played by:''' Camilla (Janice) and Rebecca Russo (Jessica)

Janice and Jessica are two blonde British twins who occasionally dated Zack and Cody. They have a habit of emphasizing what the other says.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Throughout "Model Behavior", Janice drops several hints to Zack that she is interested in him. Eventually, she gives up and moves on with Woody.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Compared to Cody and Zack, Janice and Jessica get along with each other more. In the dancing episode, they quit partaking because of Zack insulting them.
* BrainlessBeauty: They're nice but they aren't very bright. At least during their time in ''Suite Life Of''.
* DemotedToExtra: They had recurring roles in Season 2 and only one appearance in Season 3.
* FlatCharacter: There isn't much to Jessica and Janice other than being blonde and British.
* IAmVeryBritish: They speak with very posh British accents.
* TheMissusAndTheEx: When Jessica and Janice visit the S.S. Tipton, Cody is worried that Jessica and Bailey will fight over him. In actuality, Jessica and Bailey get along just fine, and Jessica barely even remembers dating Cody. They simply pretend to be at each other's throat for the sake of Cody's ego.
* SingleMindedTwins: They emphasize each other's sentences, look alike and pretty much have the same personality.
** Jessica even lampshades this in their appearance in Suite Life On Deck, calling her sister out for always copying her adjective. Notably, both twins have their own plot in this episode as well, while they were never seen separately in the original series.

* ThemeTwinNaming: Both their names begin with the letter J.

Nia is Mr. Moseby's niece who came to the Tipton to behave like a ProperLady and, alongside Millicent, fill in for Maddie for the summer while the latter was in Antarctica saving the penguins.
----
* AccidentalAthlete: She is shown to be flexible and athletic in one episode.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She once defended Zack from a JerkJock named Vance, whom she would later date for a while.
* AmbiguouslyRelated: It was never explained how Nia and Mr. Moseby are related. Is he brothers with Nia's father, or with Nia's mother, but she gave Nia her maiden name?
* ConvenientReplacementCharacter: She came in right when Creator/AshleyTisdale was busy with ''Film/HighSchoolMusical2''.
* ExpelledFromEveryOtherSchool: For fighting.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She can be hostile and takes advantage of London's stupidity, but she does genuinely care for her friends and will look out for them when need be.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: London doesn't know her actual name and has called her "Mia", "Tia", "Leah", "Gia" and "Cranky Maddie".
* ProperLady: Her family is trying that she be like this, but it's been very, ''very'' hard. Her Aunt Lilly so couldn't stand her that she changed her name and moved to Alaska.
* SassyBlackWoman: She is shown to have a snarky attitude.
* SchmuckBait: She once took advantage of London's stupidity and charged her $1,000 for a Thousand Dollar Bar.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With her fellow candy girl replacement, Millicent. Nia is brutish and blunt, while Millicent has cowardice, so they are total opposites and often clash.

Millicent, alongside Nia, was brought to fill in for Maddie when the latter was in Antarctica saving the penguins.
----
* AbsurdPhobia: She has cowardice and seems to be afraid of basically everything, but especially she's afraid of Nia and her more brutish, blunt, personality. Nia and Millicent are total opposites and often clash with one another. Millicent doesn't seem to like Nia very much as, in one episode's "Team Leadership Conference", the former was quick to mimic her in a mocking, disrespectful manner. Once, when Millicent was asked whether or not she trusts Nia, Millicent is quick to confirm the negative, but tries to cover this up, most likely out of fear.
* ConvenientReplacementCharacter: She came in right when Creator/AshleyTisdale was busy with ''Film/HighSchoolMusical2''.
* FaintInShock: She's nervous and faints a lot.

Bailey is a farm girl from Kansas who started attending Seven Seas High to get out of her small town. She is pretty bubbly, friendly, and smart, almost a [[DistaffCounterpart female equivalent]] to Cody.
----
* AcademicAthlete: At least compared to Cody. They are both academic, but she's more physically adept and better at sports than him. And she was on the boy's baseball team back in Kettlecorn.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: In "Roomies", she and Cody play a lot of games (Darts, Ping-Pong, Simon Says, and Basketball) and she wins all of them.
* BelligerentSexualTension: After they break up, it's extremely obvious she still has feelings for Cody, but they spend most of their time bickering instead of just admitting it.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With fellow nerd Cody.
* BookSmart: A smart student like Cody, and gets into Yale in the series finale.
* BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill: She wears an old-fashioned head-mounted retainer to bed.
* ButtMonkey: She's perpetually made fun of, especially by London, and bad things never stop happening to her.
-->'''London:''' And Bailey, I'm giving you the most special gift of all. I'm giving you your closet back!\
'''Bailey:''' Hold up. Mr. Moseby gets a solid gold mug, Cody gets first-class airfare, Zack gets a ding-dang ''jetpack,'' and you give me back what's rightfully mine?\
'''London:''' You're welcome!
* ContrastingReplacementCharacter: At first, she appears to be a SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute to Maddie from the original series. Like Maddie, she's a sweet, BookSmart, hard-working girl who serves as a {{Foil}} to the lazy, ignorant SpoiledBrat London. However, they also have some differences:
** Both attract the interest of one of the Martin twins. But while Maddie was a PrecociousCrush to Zack and she didn't like him back, Bailey is a real LoveInterest of the same age to Cody.
** Maddie was a GirlyGirl. Bailey is not overly masculine, but still more tomboyish than Maddie.
** Maddie was a good student but AthleticallyChallenged. Bailey is a physically fit AcademicAthlete.
** Maddie is from Boston, which is a big city, while Bailey is from Kettlecorn, a small rural town.
** While both are nice girls, Maddie was also prone to NotSoAboveItAll and JerkassBall moments and could be quite snarky, hotheaded, and selfish at times. Bailey is more constantly nice and is less flawed than Maddie. However, she too has her moments of jerkassery.
* CoolKidAndLoserFriendship: Has this with [[AlphaBitch London.]] She is a nerdy TeachersPet, and London is a popular RichBitch, and yet they are good friends, even if London doesn't usually show it.
* CountryMouse: She's a farmgirl from Kansas.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially towards [[TheDitz London.]]
* DistaffCounterpart: To Cody, in that she's just as smart and nerdy as he is.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: She smashes a giant chocolate heart on Cody's head twice in the episode "Party On."
* DownOnTheFarm: She's from the farm town of Kettlecorn, Kansas.
* DudeMagnet: She's very beautiful and regularly attracts the attention of guys, usually much to Cody's jealousy.
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: She beats Cody in Ping-Pong while talking with [[MotorMouth Addison]] on the phone.
%%* FarmersDaughter
* {{Foil}}: Just like Maddie in the original series, Bailey serves as a foil to London. Bailey is an AllLovingHero CountryMouse {{Tomboy}}, while London is a SpoiledBrat CityMouse GirlyGirl.
* GenderBlenderName: {{Exploited| Trope}} in the pilot, when she uses the fact that her name is gender neutral to pull a SweetPollyOliver and enroll in Seven Seas High as a boy, since all the girl spots were taken.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold. She's a cheerful, friendly, and nice girl, and she has dirty blonde hair.
%%* HimeCut
* IdenticalStranger: Because the Suite Life series shared the same universe as Series/Jessie, Bailey resembles Jessie, whom Mr. Moseby calls Cody about.
* InsufferableGenius: Has moments of this.
-->'''Bailey:''' [The special perfume is] made with special amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that, when combined, can seep through the pores of your skin and act as a brain neuron enhancer.
-->'''London:''' Huh?
-->'''Bailey:''' ''(condescendingly)'' Stinky help you thinky.
* InterclassFriendship: Bailey, a small-town farm girl, is close friends with London, a [[SpoiledBrat spoiled]] hotel heiress.
* LargeHam: At least when she was possessed by the spirit of Princess Zaria anyway.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The Masculine Girl to Cody's Feminine Boy. {{Downplayed}} because Bailey isn't overly masculine, but due to her upbringing on the farm, she's more physically adept than Cody is.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Bailey mentions early on that she has nine sisters, [[{{Retcon}} though this seems to have been quietly retconned to Bailey being an only child since none of them appear in the episode where Bailey returns to Kansas]].
* MoralityPet: Bailey occasionally steps into this role for London.
* NaiveNewcomer: She's new not only to the ''[=SLoZaC=]'' gang, but also to city life, and so starts off being rather naive.
* NerdsLoveToughSchoolwork: She's usually visibly excited when finding out there's going to be a quiz or a test, and she once even forced Miss Tutweiller to have class during Senior Ditch Day.
* NiceGirl: She's sweet and considerate to everyone, even people who aren't always nice to her.
* OfficialCouple: With Cody.
* ScholarshipStudent: While all of the students at Seven Seas High come from decently wealthy families (including the twins), Bailey seems to be there simply because of her intellect. Miss Tutweiller says that she had the best essay, meaning she likely won a competition to get into the school.
* SmallTownBoredom: She decides to enroll in Seven Seas High to get away from her small-town life in Kettlecorn.
* SmartPeopleKnowLatin: She knows enough to point out a mistake in the Latin on her diploma.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To Maddie at first.
* SweetPollyOliver: In the first episode, she disguises herself as a boy in order to get into the school.
* TeachersPet: She tries to be one, but Miss Tutweiller doesn't usually appreciate her attempts to practically teach the class for her.
-->'''Tour Guide:''' ''(during a tour of Zaria's tomb)'' The Princess Zaria--\

''(Miss Tutweiller sighs)''\
'''Tour Guide:''' Does she have an "off" button?\
'''Miss Tutweiller:''' Sadly, no.
%%* TeenGenius
* TenderTomboyishnessFoulFemininity:
** Physically adept AcademicAthlete Bailey is very friendly, while rich fashionista London acts like a SpoiledBrat.
** {{Downplayed}} with Maddie and Bailey in the sequel series as both are generally nice girls, and Bailey isn't overtly masculine. But Bailey is more tomboyish than Maddie, while Maddie is a straight-up GirlyGirl, and Maddie is snarkier, bossy, and has a mean streak and a short temper, while Bailey is more consistently sweet and even-tempered. However, [[BewareTheNiceOnes even she has her moments]].
* {{Tomboy}}: She's not afraid to get dirty and enjoys tough manual labor. Plus, she was on the boy's baseball team back in Kettlecorn.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the CountryMouse AcademicAthlete Tomboy to London's CityMouse fashionista GirlyGirl.
* TomboyishName: Bailey is typically a boy's name.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Bailey is an AcademicAthlete and a science geek, but she's also rather romantic, and she's able to win a beauty pageant without needing any help from London or Cody.
* TookALevelInJerkass: She becomes distinctly meaner in season 3 due to breaking up with Cody, to the point of harming or otherwise threatening to harm him on several occasions.
* WorkingClassHero: Like Maddie in the original series, Bailey comes from a poor family, although unlike Maddie, who comes from an urban area, Bailey hails from the country and is a farm girl. Her hometown is very small and consists primarily of farms. Unlike most versions of this trope, though, Bailey is more BookSmart than StreetSmart.
* YouGoGirl: Nearly all of her scenes in "Roomies" are this, as she easily beats Cody in everything.

* BigFun: He's an overweight, fun-loving goofball that gets along well with pretty much everyone.
* TheBigGuy: He is quite strong, but that tends to vary by episode. He has shown to be strong enough to rip off the elevator controls in "Model Behavior".
* BookDumb: In contrast to Cody, he gets terrible grades.
* ButtMonkey: He's constantly made fun of by everyone, and is perpetually on the receiving end of bad luck and slapstick abuse.
* CharacterCatchphrase: In season 2, he starts to say "Dang it..." when something goes wrong for him. He also says "Hurtful!" whenever he gets insulted for his weight.

* FakeGuestStar: Shows up for two-thirds of all the episodes, yet is simply credited as a guest star. He shows up more than Marcus!
* FatBestFriend: Type C. He's pretty dim, and his head is perpetually stuck in the clouds.
* FatSlob: Known for being fat, gross, gluttonous, and messy.
* {{Gasshole}}: He can fart "Stairway to Heaven" after eating a Mexican buffet.
* KavorkaMan: He is, quite surprisingly, no slouch with the ladies. What makes him this and not a Kidanova is his greasy, unkempt curly hair, obesity, flatulence, complete lack of personal hygiene, and extremely underdeveloped social skills.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Woody describes himself as being the “youngest of nine” [[{{Retcon}} though the one sibling we do meet, Willa, is younger than him.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: No one calls him "Woodrow."
* ThePasswordIsAlwaysSwordfish: One episode reveals that the password to his computer is "Woody".
* ThePigpen: He's pretty disgusting and has no sense of personal hygiene.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: He's the Sensitive Guy to Zack and the Manly Man to Cody. He has both Cody's emotional tendencies and Zack's fun-loving attitude.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He shares the most in common with Zack, both being fun-loving, BookDumb slackers with a very similar sense of humor. As such, they tend to get involved in plots together.

[[folder:Emma Tutweiller]]
[[quoteright:318:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emma_tutweiller.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/ErinCardillo

Emma Tutweiller is one of the teachers at Seven Seas High, the school on board the SS Tipton. Commonly referred to as Miss Tutweiller, Emma is very enthusiastic about her job but is often frustrated by both Cody and Bailey (her best students) and Zack, London, and Woody (whom she considers her worst students).
----
* ButtMonkey: She's neurotic and very unlucky in love.
* CrazyCatLady: It's revealed that she keeps at least 31 Siamese cats in her cabin.
* HollywoodOld: A majority of the jokes at her expense are about her being old and unattractive, despite the actress being quite attractive and not even looking (or being, given that Erin Cardillo was in her early 30s at the time) that old in the first place. Granted, most of them come from [[AlphaBitch London]], so it's not always clear how accurate they're supposed to be.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Mr. Moseby towards the end of the series. He proposes to her at the GrandFinale.]]
* OldMaid: Frequently bemoans her status as this.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Though she has her eccentricities, she's generally a levelheaded teacher and at times almost acts like a motherly figure to her students.

The security guard on the SS Tipton, who befriends the kids and Mr. Moseby.
----
* BaldnessAngst: Apparently, he used to have a full head of hair until the stress of being a security guard got to him.
* BigEater: He eats and carries around ridiculous amounts of food in every appearance.
* BookDumb: He reveals in season 1 that he never graduated high school, so he has to take a test to get his G.E.D..
* DemotedToExtra: Only appears in one episode of Season 3 of On Deck and never appears again.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: He adopts a whale and later Cody and Bailey's pet rat.
* HiddenDepths: He was a football star when he was younger and even played against Kurt Warner.
* NiceGuy: Though clumsy and incompetent, he's a pretty good-natured guy.
* ShowWithinAShow: He was the star of his own show called "Boat Cops" before someone stole his camera.

The insane school counselor at Seven Seas High.
----
* BunnyEarsLawyer: For all his creepy, bizarre behavior, he's a surprisingly effective counselor. Pretty much everyone who's gone to visit him has successfully overcome their issues.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Doesn't appear after Season 2.
* FaceYourFears: His primary method of therapy is to force his patients to overcome their fears through direct exposure.
* {{Flanderization}}: In his first appearance, though slightly eccentric, he acted like a relatively normal adult (at least by this show's standards). In later episodes, he's a complete nutcase who creeps out everyone around him.
* {{Manchild}}: He has a lot of strange, childish habits and is easily distracted by random things.
* StalkerWithACrush: He's in love with Ms. Tutweiller and keeps a doll of her that he kisses and dresses up. Understandably, she has a restraining order on him.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/addisonsuitelifeondeck.png]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/RachaelKathrynBell

Addison is a student at Seven Seas High and a friend of Bailey's as shown in the episode "Roomies". She is very hyperactive and addicted to candy, thus often talks very rapidly and in a rambling fashion that sometimes confuses other people.
----
* BetaCouple: With Woody.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Perhaps the only time she's ever been shown to be angry is in "Prom Night," where she gives Woody the cold shoulder after believing that he was kissing somebody else. They do clear things up afterwards.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She's very flighty, and her head seems to have a permanent residence in the clouds.
* CuteBruiser: As she calls it "83 pounds of pure power".
* GenkiGirl: She's very perky.
* MeaningfulName: Note the first three letters of her name.
* MotorMouth: When she talks, she does it in extreme Run-on sentences, and writes exactly how she speaks.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: PlayedForLaughs, she utterly crushes Woody in Arm Wrestling.
* OneSidedArmWrestling: Delivers one to Woody.
* OnlyOneName: Her last name is never revealed. The finale even skips her last name being mentioned.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She has a fear of ping-pong balls.

Zack's new love interest, she becomes his girlfriend after he throws her a birthday party and even promises to get rid of his life style for her.
----
* BrooklynRage: From New York and fuels her {{Tsundere}} traits.
* GamerChick: As revealed in "Love and War".
* GranolaGirl: Goes to do humanitarian work after graduation, which leads to [[spoiler: her breakup with Zack]]
* SixthRanger: Takes over the role after Marcus leaves.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Zack.
* TwoFirstNames: "Bennett" can also be a first name.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Gender-flipped. One episode involves Zack feeling conflicted between seeing her perform at a poetry slam and attending a previously planned video game night with Cody, Woody, and Moseby. When his ZanyScheme to be both places at once fails (per usual Sitcom formula), she tells him that she's okay with him wanting to hang out with his friends instead of her once in a while.[[note]]She ''is'' a little upset that he lied to her, but she forgives him[[/note]] After all, he wouldn't be the guy she fell for if he didn't.

London's often unseen father and manager of Tipton Industries. He is incredibly rich (so much that his allowance to London is ridiculous) and is involved in many criminal activities.
----
* CharacterizationMarchesOn:
** Remember how he seems to care about London's well being. In his final and first real appearance, London has to remind him of who she is. Plus his criminal activities aren't pointed out until this time too with his most corrupt behavior before then is endangering some whales with his cruise ship. His final appearance talks of him embezzling money and on top of that wants to [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking turn the Pickett farm into a plastic bag factory.]] He seems to actually love her, when he remembers her (one time smiling at her).
** An episode of ''Zack and Cody'' has it stated that Mr Tipton is actually [[FriendToAllLivingThings a lover of nature and animals]][[note]]Zack and Cody were able to use this fact to make Moseby let them keep a bird in the hotel[[/note]]. In ''On Deck'' it is repeatedly mentioned that his various business ventures have caused tremendous damage to the environment. The most notable example being when he cut down every single tree on an island which resulted in its rare bird species leaving and destroying the island's tourism industry.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Nearly all of his plans involve crime, robbery and destroying as much of the enviroment as possible
* FriendlyEnemy: For all his unscrupulous and illegal behavior, he has a relatively cordial relationship with Cody. It’s been established since the original series that Cody has his number, implying that Mr. Tipton trusts the boy enough to let him know if something isn’t right that he’d consider him worth his time and be willing to do him favors. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean such favors will be fulfilled in the way Cody asked for, especially since he could never pass up an opportunity to make profit.
* ParentalNeglect: Essentially left London in the care of the several nannies and Moseby.
* PragmaticVillainy: He sides with Zack and Cody's pitch for a heartfelt Tipton commercial that incorporates their genuine love for their FoundFamily because it's good advertising. One could also interpret his "nature lover" image to this; he publically endorses environmental causes while privately harming the environment.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: His motto in life.
* SerialSpouse: Has been married anywhere between eight and fifteen times, with each marriage being shorter than the last. London is the child of wife number 3 (though earlier seasons suggest her mother was wife number 1). At the start of the show he's already moved on to wife number 4, and he seems to go through at least a half dozen more over the course of the two shows.
* TooImportantToRememberYou: He only remembers which of his children London is after she reminds him she's the daughter of ex-wife number 3. The only detail he remembers about Mr. Moseby isn't that he's the former manager of the Tipton Hotel in Boston or the current manager of the SS Tipton, but that he was the best man at Mr. Tipton's fifth wedding.
* UnseenEvil: He is ultimately the one Moseby has to answer to, and yet, we hardly see what he looked like for most the series. When he is usually brought up, all we hear of him are the heartless things he has done to the environment and his tendency to have at least 14 spouses, among other things. When he does make a full appearance, we see what a truly despicable man he is.
* UnseenNoMore: He's usually concealed by a wall of bodyguards and spends most of the show either as TheGhost (being referred to using a phone) or TheFaceless (only his hand is shown), until he finally shows his face in the ''Suite Life on Deck'' episode "Twister: Part 3".

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ilsa.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/CarolineRhea

Ilsa Shickelgrubermeiger is the mean-spirited German hotel inspector-turned-manager of the rival hotel, the St. Mark Hotel, across the street.
----
* AllGermansAreNazis: She's German, and often associated with Nazi jokes (she has a [[KillerRabbit killer wiener dog]] named Blitzkrieg, for one thing). Also, part of her last name (Schicklgruber) was [[UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler Hitler's]] father's original last name.[[note]]Propaganda throughout the 1930s and '40s - first from Hitler's intra-German rivals, then from Allied forces during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII - would sometimes try to claim it was Adolf's "proper" last name, since said father was born out of wedlock.[[/note]]
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Heavy on the "ineffectual", light on the "sympathetic".
* LargeHam
* LaughablyEvil
* OverlyLongName: Especially after getting married.
-->'''Ilsa''': I have gotten married.
-->'''Carey''': [[DeadpanSnarker You're kidding.]]
-->'''Ilsa''': Ja. My married name is Ilsa Schicklgrubermeiger-von Helsinger Kepelugerhoffer.
-->'''Carey''': [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments You're kidding]].

-->'''Cody''': That must take forever to write on your underwear!
-->'''Ilsa''': I have a stamp.
* SmugSnake: Too confident in her nasty actions to actually succeed.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: During her time as the manager of the Tipton, to the point that even [[TheDitz London]] hated her.
* YouMonster: Played for laughs in her second appearance, where she's equated to a ''literal'' monster.
-->'''Moseby''': There is no such thing as monsters!
-->''Ilsa walks in the door.''
-->'''Ilsa''': I'm back.
-->'''Moseby, Carey and the boys''': AHHHHH!!!
-->'''Carey''': Get behind me kids! Don't look her in the mole--I mean eyes!
