!!Princess Mabelrose of New Tinsley

The titular courageous princess, the princess of the humble kingdom of New Tinsley on the edge of the Hundred Kingdoms. She lived a peaceful life with her parents and her many friends among her kingdom's subjects, until one day she was captured by the fearsome dragon Shalathrumnostrium. The series covers her quest to escape the dragons' clutches and return home to her parents.

----
* AllLovingHero: Save for most of the story's villains she befriends everyone she meets, regardless of race, species, or class. [[spoiler:At the story's end she even goes back to rescue her aunt Ursula, despite all she'd done.]]
* DamselInDistress: She starts the story this way as a prisoner of a dragon awaiting rescue from a prince, but when no prince comes to rescue her she subverts this by escaping on her own.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Her hair gradually gets longer over the first volume to signify that she's getting older with the passage of time.
* InformedAttribute: In the beginning of the first volume, Shalathrumnostrium muses that Mabelrose, unlike the other princesses, stands there and "tries to reason with [him]" upon seeing him for the first time. In the actual comic, she's screaming in terror for him not to eat her and trying to run away even while he's talking. She becomes braver mostly after that meeting.
* ModestRoyalty: Save for the very beginning (when she's hurt over being teased for her appearance and wishes she had some flashier clothes because of it) she tends to prefer a simple pink dress; more fabric than the average person, but nowhere near the extravagant outfits other royal figures wear.

!!Spiky

Mabelrose's constant companion during her quest to return home and escape Shalathrumnostrium, a cheerful talking porcupine. After aiding her in her initial escape, Spiky decides to come with her and the two become fast friends.

----
* CassandraTruth: He constantly insists that the magic rope Mabelrose took from Shalathrumnostrium is alive, but Mabelrose never believes him.
* TalkingAnimal: He's a porcupine who talks. That he's so animal-like in appearance puts him at odds with the Leptians, who have near-human proportions and all the trappings of a human civilization.

!!The Rope

A rope that Mabelrose stole from Shalathrumnostrium's horde. Unbeknownst to her, it's actually alive and can move around on its own, although it never does this in sight of her. The rope becomes a loyal companion to Mabelrose during her escape.

----
* AnimateInanimateObject: It doesn't seem able to talk, only communicating with gestures, but it's very animated and helpful (at least whenever Mabelrose isn't looking.)
* RunningGag: Despite all the other magical items Mabelrose found in Nostrium's hoard, she refuses to believe the rope is alive and just assumes that the knots were just badly tied or Spiky is seeing things. She finally sees it move late into volume 2.

!!Boar

A talking boar Mabelrose runs into on the way to the kingdom of Leptia. After she frees him from a trap, they become quick friends and he takes her the rest of the way to Leptia as thanks.

----
* ForcedTransformation: Mabelrose suspects he's really a prince turned into a boar when he asks for a kiss from her, but it's subverted when nothing happens and he explains he just wanted to know what it was like to kiss a princess.
* MysteriousPast: Even if he's not really a transformed prince as Mabelrose thought, the jade collar and magical box that he wears never gets explained, outside of him being one of the talking animals driven out of Leptia.

!!Prince Ingle

A prince Mabelrose meets in the second volume on her journey back home from Leptia, a prince who was separated from his family and cursed by a warlock. He turns into a frog whenever he's scared--[[LovableCoward and he's scared very often]]. Good-natured, if a bit rude, he accompanies Mabelrose for the rest of the series.

----
* ChangedMyMindKid: He initially is too scared to help Mabelrose save her father from the Cloud Castle, but comes to join them just in time to save them from Orogigantum's lord commander.
* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: He turns into a frog whenever he's terrified, something that's either helpful or very convenient depending on the situation.
* LovableCoward: While Mabelrose is a courageous princess, Ingle is a cowardly prince who prefers to flee from danger. However, he and Mabelrose quickly become friends and he helps when it counts, albeit with persuasion.
* RescueRomance: He hoped for a version of this when first meeting Mabelrose, saving her from a pack of Rumpelstiltskins and asking if he can have a kiss as his reward (to break his curse.)
* ShoutOut: His curse makes him a shout out to Literature/TheFrogPrince

[[/folder]]

[[folder: King Jeryk's party]]

!! King Jeryk of New Tinsley

Mabelrose's father, the kind king of New Tinsley who taught Mabelrose that everyone in their kingdom was important, no matter how common. After Mabelrose is kidnapped by an evil dragon, he sets out on his own to rescue her.

----
* {{Deuteragonist}}: As much as the story is about Mabelrose saving herself and becoming a brave princess, Jeryk and his efforts to rescue her are given almost as much screen-time, especially in the latter two volumes.
* DistressedDude: Although he initially sets out to rescue his daughter, in the second volume he and his posse are captured and in need of rescuing instead.
* GoodParents: The narrative goes out of its way to describe what a good father he is to Mabelrose, and he won't rest until he has her home safe.
* IWillFindYou: He's made it his mission to find his daughter after she's kidnapped.
* ShoutOut: He's a shout-out to Literature/{{Aladdin}}, as he's referred to as a lamp-rubbing thief and comes from kingdom ruled by a Sultan. His last name actually is "Alahdin".

!!Colonel Pib

Aka Puss in Boots, an old friend of Jeryk's and professional monster hunter. After learning where his daughter was being held captive in the first volume, Jeryk approaches him in the second for his advice and aid going to save her, and he handpicks the princes that make up their rescue party.

----
* FunnyAnimal: Standing upright and having human mannerisms, he's not merely a talking animal like Spiky, but unlike the Leptians he doesn't wear clothes except his boots.
* MrExposition: He tells Jeryk, and therefore the audience, what they need to do for every step of the journey and explains all the creatures and obstacles they come across.
* ShoutOut: To the story of Literature/PussInBoots.

!!The Scout

A man with an extraordinarily long neck that Jeryk recruits in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. With his long neck, he's able to see for miles and can warn of approaching danger long before it reaches the group.

!!The Transporter

A man with extraordinarily long legs that Jeryk recruits in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. With his long legs, he can overcome terrain obstacles that would otherwise stop the rest of the party.

!!Prince Hearfar

The first prince that Jeryk recruits in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. His father being an extraordinary listener with gigantic ears, Hearfar is also able to pick up sounds and conversations from miles away.

----
* TheCasanova: He shows the most interest in other women, like the fairies, and is the prince most eager for some kind of relationship with Mabelrose for rescuing her (albeit he remains respectful of her boundaries and promises to help for no reward.)
* RescueRomance: He semi-seriously asks if he can date Mabelrose in the future as reward for rescuing her.

!!Prince Eater

The second prince that Jeryk recruits in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. His father being impossibly strong, Eater is as well impossibly strong as long as he's eaten. That being said, he and his pet snake, Big Gulp, have big appetites.

----
* BigEater: His name even being Eater, he can devour quite a lot and claim he's still hungry. Jeryk comments on how he's not going to be able to afford to keep him fed by the time they reach Mabelrose.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: While locked up in Cloud Castle, he and Big Gulp are tortured by his jailer making delicious food and eating it in front of him.
* PowerUpFood: Once he's eaten he becomes super strong.

!!Prince Shiver

The third prince that Jeryk recruits in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. He's specified as being a "weatherman", although it's not explained what that means. He's beset by a constant feeling of cold that leads him to wrap himself up with as many layers as possible.

----
* ElementalHairColors: His hair is revealed to be red in a scene that demonstrates that he gives off a radiating warmth in cold environments.
* TheLoad: For most of the story he is this, as he's so cold in warm environments that it makes him lethargic and not much use. [[spoiler:When Jeryk's group is escaping from the Lands of No Return, he's the only one who can easily walk through the tundra realm, and he provides warmth to the others, as in an inversion he's ''warm'' in cold climates.]]

!!Prince Gaze

The final prince recruited by Jeryk in his quest to rescue Mabelrose from the Unremembered Lands. As the child of Medusa, Gaze has snakes for hair and can cast a variety of sight-based spells, from sleep to forced obedience to turning enemies into stone.

----
* AmbiguousGender: There was debate among the other princes of whether Gaze was a guy or a girl, with Gaze's replies neatly avoiding the answer. Despite this, he is usually referred to with male pronouns and has the title "prince".
* EyesOutOfSight: His "hair" of snakes cover his eyes at all times.
* MindManipulation: One of his powers allows him to control others who look at them. He can either force obedience to his commands or induce strong emotions like fear.
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: While his teammates inherited their abilities from their parents none demonstrate this more than him, who inherited gorgon traits from his mother and magic eye powers from his father. He seems to have a far wider range of abilities than both his parents.
* TakenForGranite: One of his powers is to turn people to stone with his snakes' gaze.

!!Mem

Mabelrose's fairy godmother, an old woman who seems to have a lot less magic than the other fairies. Nonetheless, she knows the Unremembered Lands like the back of her hand and so she joins up with Jeryk to help him rescue his daughter.

----
* FakeDefector: To help Mabelrose sneak into the cloud castle where Jeryk is being held, she claims she's taking her to Orogigantum herself (although she's eventually caught.) It foreshadows [[spoiler:her leading Mabelrose into a trap for real, although she regrets having to do it.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: Prior to the start of the story, she used to be a merciless [[spoiler:witch who was defeated by and became a servant to Ursula.]] She left that evil life behind later and joined the fairies.
* MyGreatestFailure: She sees Mabelrose being captured in the first place as her failure as a godmother.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Villains]]

!!Shalathrumnostrium

The main antagonist of the first volume, an evil dragon that kidnaps Princess Mabelrose. He's known to have a hobby of kidnapping princesses; the ransoms their families pay for their return makes up most of his vast hoard of treasure and magical artifacts, and he also has countless spoils from the knights and sorcerers that come to defeat him.

----
* BatheHerAndBringHerToMe: Has his invisible servants bathe and dress Mabelrose before bringing her to him on her second day there. He continues to treat her like a dress up doll in this manner, with a new outfit every day.
* BigBad: The main villain for the first volume, since the first part of Mabelrose's journey is to escape him and avoid being recaptured by him.
* {{Greed}}: His main motivator to kidnap princesses. He states outright he's not satisfied with his stockpile of wealth and that there is never enough, freaking out at the idea that he'd lose even a ''tiny fraction'' of it to someone else. He kidnapped Mabelrose in the first place [[spoiler:because he was paid to, and continued to keep her prisoner because he wasn't satisfied with his payment.]]
* TheManBehindTheMan: Irgerat is secretly working for him, and he credits himself with the hold Irgerat has on his kingdom.
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:He worked for Orogigantum, or rather Ursula, the whole time, but was planning to act against her and conspired as much with Irgerat.]]
* ThisCannotBe: Twice; the first time is when he can't find Mabelrose after she escapes his castle. The second time is [[spoiler:when it turns out Mabelrose's will ''is'' strong enough to use the magic flute on him.]] Both times he's unable to believe he was wrong.

!!Mukhorgouroth

Shalathrumnostrium's faithful servant, an evil wolf that he sends to track Mabelrose down after she escapes.

----
* DisneyVillainDeath: He either falls to his death or drowns when the cliff he's standing on is destroyed by a waterfall.
* SavageWolf: He's a frightening and evil wolf creature that tracks Mabelrose.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: For being such a loyal and dependable servant to Shalathrumnostrium, he ends up being killed off in the first scene he's introduced in.

!!Irgerat

An Anifolk tiger who is the false king of Leptia and the brother of its former king Argaile. He holds the Leptians under his sway by some means despite his overtly tyrannical rule.

----
* AdiposeRex: He's quite large and fat, as well as tyrannical and obsessed with his own wealth.
* DisneyVillainDeath: He's tackled off of his castle and falls to his death, just as he was planning to throw Mabelrose off it.
* TheStarscream: He seeks to overthrow his current master, Shalathrumnostrium. Even before that, [[spoiler:he and Nostrium were planning to betray their mutual master, Orogigantum.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: The Leptians, particularly the city folk, believe him to be a great king and completely overlook his tax-heavy, apathetic ruling style. This is because of the magic flute Irgerat uses to keep them tame.

!!Orogigantum

The Dragon Queen and the BigBad from the second volume on, who commands a hoarde of giants and seems to be plotting something sinister for the Hundred Kingdoms. Mabelrose's father and the party he assembled to rescue her are seemingly captured by the dragon after venturing into the Unremembered Lands.

----
* BigBad: Of the latter two volumes, as she commands the giants that are poised to swarm into the unremembered lands. [[spoiler:Though this trope actually applies to Ursula, who controls her.]]
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler:As stated in the third volume, Orogigantum was slain a long time ago and now Ursula commands her body, kept together with evil magic. Breaking the crown of eyes reduces her to a corpse.]]
* {{Greed}}: Some of her dialogue, [[spoiler:provided that Ursula isn't creating it whole cloth,]] implies this, with her commenting of a vast room full of treasure that it is "never enough."
* SamusIsAGirl: The terrifying Orogigantum is assumed a male dragon until it's revealed otherwise.

!!Ursula

Mabelrose's other aunt outside of her aunt Brigitta, introduced in the second volume. She sports a sinister attire and is skilled in sorcery, but the family doesn't talk about her much. She's later revealed to have a connection with the dragon queen Orogigantum.

----
* BadPowersBadPeople: Her staff only grants selfish wishes, [[spoiler:and in fact breaks when she uses it for the altruistic act of saving Mabelrose.]] It's implied that while she was a more heroic woman in the beginning, her use of the staff encouraged her towards evil.
* CompositeCharacter: Her fixation on being "fairest in the land" among her other ambitions makes her rather like the wicked queen of Literature/SnowWhite. Her having servants transformed into furniture that can only turn back when she repents of her wicked ways, as well as gradually forming a (in this case, familial) relationship with the young woman that she's holding prisoner, makes her reminiscent of the Beast from ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast''.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: The one line she won't cross is harming her own family so, though she puts them through a lot of suffering, she's doing everything she can to non-lethally get them out of the way so she doesn't have to fight them in her quest to conquer the world.
* FallenHero: Once a noble heroine that took down a cabal of evil witches that oppressed the land, corrupted by the artifacts that the witches gave her and jealousy of her sister into an evil conquerer.
* GreenEyedMonster: Her main motivation for what she does is that she's jealous of how her sister Brigitta received everything, from inheriting the crown to eventually being called the "fairest in the land," which was once Ursula's title.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After her defeat, Mabelrose convinces her to come back and make amends with her family.]]
* ManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler:She is the one who orchestrated Mabelrose's kidnapping, the only flaw in her plan being that she intended for Shalathrumnostrium to bring Mabelrose to her directly and he demanded more gold instead.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:When she almost kills Mabelrose by accident, she's horrified by herself and breaks the staff in using it to bring her back to life.]]
* ObviouslyEvil: The extent to which she's the BigBad may be a spoiler, but her introductory panel shows her already in all [[DarkIsEvil black and intimidating looking]], as well as being the only sister without a loving family.
* WhenSheSmiles: Mabelrose notes that Ursula ''does'' look like the fairest in the land when she's genuinely happy, as opposed to her usually serious and scowling demeanor as she furthers her plans.
* WouldHurtAChild: Despite her evident unwillingness to hurt her own niece, she still at one point in the story tries to outright murder Prince Ingle, meaning that it's more Mabelrose's relation to her and not her youth that stays her hand.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Ironically gives this speech to Mabelrose once the princess starts spiraling into self-deprecation, because it can't stand that someone sharing her blood be belittled by anyone, even themselves.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Supporting Characters]]
!!Queen Helena of New Tinsley

Mabelrose's mother, the generous queen of New Tinsley who taught Mabelrose many things, particularly telling her tales of heroes and adventures. While her husband goes out to rescue Mabelrose, Helena must stay behind and look after the kingdom.

----
* DistressedDamsel: This was her backstory, as she makes a comment about Jeryk having once saved her from an evil sorcerer.
* GoodParents: She's described as a good mother who taught Mabelrose all the practical skills she uses in her journey.
* IWillWaitForYou: She's resolved to wait by the window every day until her husband is back with their daughter, and adamantly refuses to remarry even as several months pass, as the ambitious Baron Mavonlecent learns firsthand. She ends up waiting diligently for over a year.
