->''"Somebody has to do something."''

Scott is the eponymous ''Teen Wolf'' and main character of the series. Originally a somewhat nerdy, asthmatic outsider with little friends, his life changes dramatically after a fateful meeting in the woods leads to his transformation into a werewolf. His new powers grant him athletic prowess and more popularity, but they also open up a world full of danger and supernatural enemies. Scott now must learn to reconcile his responsibilities as a burgeoning leader in the supernatural world with his desire to lead the life of a normal teenage boy.
----

* AccidentalHero: The only thing Scott wanted was to be an average, somewhat popular teenager with a nice girlfriend; but transforming into a werewolf confronted him with a host of difficult situations that forced him to step up and be someone more heroic. He takes a while to get used to this.
* ActionHero: Scott is involved in a lot of fights and other situations that require action being a werewolf with SuperStrength, SuperSpeed and a HealingFactor.
* AnchoredShip: After Scott and Allison break up due to their conflicting loyalties, their relationship remains on hold even though their feelings do not. This ship finally gets un-anchored due to Allison's death in Season 3, but Scott's relationship with new girlfriend Kira is showing signs of becoming another AnchoredShip.
* BackFromTheDead: In mid-Season 3, Scott along with Stiles and Allison, undertakes a Druid sacrifice ritual in the place of his mother so to save her from being sacrificed by the Darach. All three are resurrected later on but with HeroicBSOD. Also in the mid season finale of Season 5, Scott dies briefly after Theo kills him. His mother Melissa revives him by trying to give him CPR and getting him to roar.
* BadassAdorable: Scott still displays some of the dorky and quirky traits that he possessed in the earlier seasons. However, that will not stop Scott from kicking ass and taking names when he has to. He is a True Alpha after all.
* BashBrothers: Scott has been this with Stiles, Derek, Isaac and even Liam. All four of them have fought side by side with Scott during battles and missions. He has a bond with all four guys and he considers all of them to be TrueCompanions to him.
* BattleCouple: Scott and Allison in season 1 and 2. One is a werewolf with superhuman abilities (Scott) and one is a badass werewolf hunter (Allison) born into a BadassFamily with a SecretLegacy. They would often fight side by side during battles and missions.
** As of Season 3, Scott and Kira are this, as Scott is an Alpha and Kira is a badass kitsune.
* BeastAndBeauty: Scott is the "Beast" to Allison's Beauty. Scott is a werewolf, while Allison is a beautiful human girl.
* BerserkButton: Do not mess with Scott's friends and family. He will wolf out and he will rage.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Scott is a NiceGuy in most instances, who tries his best to avoid violence, but if you cross him or hurt those he loves and cares about, expect him to come after you, his tougher side will come out and the result will be messy.
* BigBrotherInstinct[=/=]BigBrotherMentor: In Season 4, he feels strongly responsible for turning Liam, so does his best to help Liam adjust to being a werewolf and looks out for him in an almost paternal way.
* BigDamnHeroes: When things get bad or Beacon Hills ever finds itself in any kind of danger, expect Scott and his pack to be there to save the day.
* BigGood: Not only is he a [[TheChosenOne True Alpha]] (a once-in-100-years-werewolf who rises to Alpha status through the goodness and nobility of their character, their strength of will and without taking the power from others) along with being TheHero, TheLeader, TheHeart, a MagneticHero, an AllLovingHero, a HopeBringer, TheParagon, and TheCape, but Scott has the [[TheFettered highest and strongest morals, values and ideals]] of any character on the show. Scott stands for [[EmbodimentOfVirtue heroism, justice, compassion, kindness]] and he is a natural-born [[TheLeader leader]] who inspires others to come together for a common purpose. He is also strongly opposed to [[ThouShallNotKill killing]], believes that every one can be saved somehow ([[SaveTheVillain including villains, such as Jackson as the Kanima and Deucalion, for example]]) and [[AllLovingHero he always tries to see the best in everyone, even his own enemies]]. Not to mention that Scott often functions as a MoralityChain for Derek, Allison, and Isaac, and had a strong influence on both Derek and Isaac [[TookALevelInKindness becoming much nicer, gentler and kinder in personality]].
* BoyMeetsGirl: Scott meets Allison on her first day of school, and they start dating soon after. Unfortunately, Allison being from a hunter family means that things keep pulling them apart.
* BrainsAndBrawn: Scott is the Brawn to Stiles' Brains. Scott, who is a werewolf with abilities, is more prone to using physical combat and violence to fight his enemies. Stiles, who is human with no abilities, is more likely to use his intelligence and his brains to come up with solutions during battles. These traits in Scott and Stiles make them a complementary team. this often gets subverted in that Scott is actually the more thoughtful of the two, is the strategist, and is the one who thinks through his actions. While Stiles tends to be the one who does things without thinking, and then does things like recklessly attacking an alpha with a baseball bat.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy:
** Scott by the Alpha in "Night School". Because of this, Scott almost attempts to kill all of his friends including Stiles, Allison, Lydia and Jackson. He managed to resist Peter long enough to turn the key to the room where his friends are, to protect them, but still...
** This happens yet again in Season 4, after Kate brainwashes him into becoming one of her Berserkers.
* BrilliantButLazy: Scott has shown that he can be very smart and clever when he wants to be. However, since becoming a werewolf, he has experienced a serious drop in his grades, mostly because Scott was still trying to adjust to his new found life as a werewolf. This was causing Scott to lose focus of his schoolwork. In Season 1, it was noted on one of his tests that his low grade or low score was not like him, which means that Scott usually got better grades before becoming a werewolf. As of Season 3 onwards and especially Season 5, Scott's overall grades improved and he even got into AP Biology, which is considered to be a very challenging class. Scott is also an aspiring veterinarian, which is a career in the medicinal field. It's not that Scott is dumb, it's that he's too distracted by all of the issues around him.
* CannotTalkToWomen: Scott is initially very awkward around the opposite sex, acting rather clumsy around Allison. This eventually changes as he gets to know her, and he becomes more comfortable with her.
* TheCape: Scott is the embodiment of an IdealHero. He is a True Alpha after all, a special kind of werewolf who is the EmbodimentOfVirtue. Scott follows a [[TheFettered strict code of morals, values and ethics]], has a strong sense of [[IncorruptiblePurePureness honor, duty, nobility, and responsibility]], is strongly dedicated truth, justice and peace, and has a strong sense of ChronicHeroSyndrome and SamaritanSyndrome. Even though Scott is a special kind of Alpha, he is very [[HumbleHero humble about his status]] and refuses to abuse his power. Scott also lives by a ThouShallNotKill code and always believes that everyone can be saved somehow.
* TheCasanova: After becoming a werewolf he definitely starts gaining the attraction of several women.
* TheChessmaster: Has one memorable instant in Season 2: Gerard Argent spent all of Season Two playing everybody like a fiddle, but the season finale reveals that for the latter half of the season, Scott was one step ahead of him.
** A massive case in Season 5B finale where it's revealed Scott [[spoiler:was employing a repentant [[ManipulativeBastard Deucalion]] undermine Theo Raeken, conspired with Chris to double-cross a recovered Gerard after securing the information and means to defeat the Beast of Gévaudan ''and'' provided Malia the means to take down [[ArchnemesisDad her mother, the Desert Wolf]].]]
* ChickMagnet: Invoked in Season 1 especially. Aside from his relationships with Allison and Kira, Scott is also pursued at various points by Lydia and Erica. Even Allison's ''aunt'' Kate has noted his attractiveness.
* TheChosenOne: Scott is a True Alpha, a once-in-a-century werewolf who can rise to Alpha status based only on their own character and strength of will. This is a subversion though of the trope, since he was not destined to be a true Alpha, but achieved the status through his own choices and actions.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Scott has the constant need to save and protect everyone he can, unlike almost everyone else in Beacon Hills.
* ComingOfAgeStory: The series is basically Scott's story of growing up and embracing his destiny as a werewolf, and a burgeoning leader in the supernatural world.
* CursedWithAwesome: Initially, he's not thrilled with being a werewolf, despite the special powers and abilities that come with it. Of course, he's more worried that he'd end up killing someone if he can't control his emotions and feral instincts (especially under a full moon).
* {{Determinator}}: Scott is one of the most persistent and determined characters. He will never give up on something he is passionate about or something that he strongly believes in. He is determined to keep everyone safe from danger as well as protect and save everyone at all costs. Scott is also very determined when it comes to the well being and safety of his loved ones.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Especially in the first Season, Scott tends to float off into La-la Land whenever Allison's around or even mentioned. Needless to say, this annoys Stiles to the point he wants to "maim and kill himself".
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler:Throughout season 5A, Theo schemed to pin Scott's entire pack against him through manipulation and dirty tactics. In second 5B, however, after Scott manages to make amends with his friends, he beats Theo in his own game by [[TheChessmaster using Theo's power-hungry nature to drive away his own Chimera Pack]].]]
* DorkKnight: Even though Scott has gained abilities as a werewolf and has become rather heroic, he remains rather dorky and is often socially awkward. His awkwardness disappears with time - the dorkiness remains.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:In the movie, while he does end up losing Derek, one of his closest friends and mentors, Scott regains Allison back into his life after helping her regain her memories, and is also implied to be taking care of Derek's son.]]
* TheFace: Aside from being TheLeader and TheHeart of his "pack", he's often the one who resorts to a more diplomatic approach when confronting a mission or battle. He almost always tries to talk his pack out of plans that are too dangerous or violent, and often acts as a general moral compass to the others.
* FailureHero: In Season 5A, during the threat of the Dread Doctors, Scott becomes increasingly discouraged and insecure about his position as Alpha, and his ability to protect. His friends start to doubt him and distance themselves from him, believing that he does not have what it takes. Scott's friendship with Stiles ends up fractured, Lydia ends up mentally incapacitated in Eichen House, Malia distances herself from Scott because she has an alternative agenda, Kira leaves town because she cannot control her inner fox power, and Liam has no faith in Scott and is angry at him because of Hayden. Scott acknowledges to his mom that everything has changed between him and his friends and that it's all his fault. It reaches its peak in the mid season finale when Theo takes advantage of the supermoon and Liam's anger at Scott regarding Hayden and kills Scott. Although Scott is revived by his mother, he has still lost everything and everyone and he feels completely and utterly hopeless. He does get better in the second half of the season.
* FairyTaleMotifs: In the Pilot episode "Wolf Moon", Scott, [[Literature/LittleRedRidingHood wearing a bright red hoodie]], ends up getting lost in the woods, where he's attacked by what appears to be a wolf-like animal.
* AFatherToHisMen: He's an Alpha, who always treats his Pack with kindness and compassion.
* FatalFlaw: Occasionally enemies will see his pacifism as such. Deucalion and Peter point out this flaw many times as they say it weakens him and causes Scott to be WeakButSkilled. This ignores that Scott's refusal to kill as a first option, has actually solved more problems than it has caused. Since without it, Chris would not have made his heel turn, Lydia would have been killed when Derek suspected her of being the kanima, Jackson would have died, and Peter would have been killed as soon as he came back in s2. Scott's true fatal flaw is his tendency to martyr himself. He accepts people hurting him and using him to spare others from the same fate, but that often doesn't solve problems, it just perpetuates them (like not telling Kira bout her fox spirit in Season 5A). He is often unwilling to confront others if he can just take it instead.
* TheFettered: Scott lives by a code of morals and standards that contrasts with the GreyAndGrayMorality of most people around him.
* ForGreatJustice: Scott's desire to save and protect people comes from his strong belief in doing the right thing. And the notion that someone should be there for others, since no one was there for him, when he needed someone. Scott has a strong sense of duty and he fights for justice and peace.
* FriendlessBackground: Before becoming a werewolf, Scott was unpopular and did not have many friends that he hung out with apart from Stiles. Subverted after he became a werewolf and started to befriend many other people outside of Stiles.
* GreatDetective: Though this role is normally Stiles', Scott now and then makes great deductions to crimes and uncovering information when he has to.
** In the Season 1 finale, he figured out and proved to Derek that Peter had intentionally lured Laura to Beacon Hills in order to murder her, rather than Peter's claim of her death being an accident. Scott's evidence was enough to get Derek fully back on his side.
** In Season 2 he deduced that Gerard was planning on having Derek Bite him after smelling his cancer.
** In the Season 4 finale he figures out Kate ''and'' Peter had conspired to kill him by having his friends fight him as a Berserker - that Kate had learned all she could do with the Berserkers from someone who knew just enough about them and whom had also taught her to control her shift - Peter.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Although Scott is TheHero, and he generally doesn't resort to physical violence, he will do so when it is completely necessary. Although he would rather find another way to solve the problem, if you mess with him or hurt his loved ones, he will not hesitate to kick your ass.
* TheHeart: Scott is portrayed as the glue that holds everyone together - this is usually emphasized in the season finales, when even enemies reluctantly ally to support him.
* TheHero: When trouble strikes Beacon Hills, Scott goes to great lengths to rally his friends to help him fix the problem.
* TheHeroDies: In Season 5 mid-season finale, killed by the [[SixthRangerTraitor treacherous Theo Raeken]]. Subverted as he's only dead for 15 minutes, until his mom [[BigDamnHeroes revives him]] by pumping him with CPR and [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane screaming at him to "ROAR"]] which works, and he comes back to life roaring.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Scott and Stiles have only been in relationships with women, but they love each other as best friends, brothers and true companions. They have been through everything together, always look out for each other, and have each others backs no matter what.
** However, in Season 5, their friendship starts to break apart thanks to the machinations of [[ManipulativeBastard Theo Raeken]]. It doesn't last long though and the two rebuild their relationship.
* HonorBeforeReason: Scott is extremely honorable and noble in how he approaches things. He is very diplomatic and idealistic in how he chooses to solve problems. His honorable character is the biggest reason why he is a True Alpha in the first place.
* HopeBringer: Scott has the ability to inspire hope, faith and optimism in everyone around him. He makes everyone believe that even when a situation looks bad that everything will be okay in the end. Scott also inspires in people that there is good in everyone and that even the bad guys or ones that are morally corrupted can be saved somehow. Scott's ability to inspire hope in others has made other people want to follow him and support his cause for the greater good. Hence, why he is TheLeader of his own pack. All part of Scott being TheHero, the BigGood and a True Alpha.
* HormoneAddledTeenager: In Season 1, Scott seemed to be obsessed with Allison to the point where he would wolf out in arousal by being around her. Over the course of the series, Scott has become [[CharacterDevelopment significantly more mature and less hormonal]].
* HowDoIShotWeb: In Season One, in the weeks after being Bitten, Scott struggles to master the lycanthropic powers he's aware of, much less maintain control while he wolfs out, much to Derek's frustration.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo:
** In the second season, Scott justifies working as a spy for Gerard by pointing out that his mother's life is on the line if he doesn't.
** This happens again in Season 3, when Deucalion pressures him to join his side by threatening Melissa. Again, it's only temporary.
** Gets another reprise in Season 4, with the assassin Garrett poisoning Liam and threatening to let him die if Scott doesn't help him save his partner and girlfriend Violet.
* IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing: In 2x11, Scott admits this verbatim to Isaac, after Isaac reveals that he trusts Scott for being a steady and moral person.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: Before Scott is bitten and changed into a werewolf, he yearns to be more popular, attractive and athletic. This changes once he becomes a werewolf, when he decides he'd rather be a normal teenager, and desperately searches for a cure to his werewolf curse. He changes this mindset by the start of Season 2.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Before Scott was bitten, Scott was rather socially awkward, self-conscious, and doesn't fit in with the popular crowd at his school. He doesn't have any friends other than Stiles, his best friend since childhood. After getting Bitten and meeting Alison, he starts to find a larger social circle, including much of the main cast.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: At the end of Season 2, Scott and Allison broke up with each other, feeling like they had too many issues during the time to work it out and be together. In Season 3, Allison starts to develop a relationship with Isaac. Although Scott is initially unhappy and displeased with this, Scott eventually comes to accept Allison and Isaac's relationship and he eventually moves on (and develops a relationship with Kira). It's clear that although Scott would always love Allison, he just wanted her to be happy in the end even if it was not with him.
* InterspeciesRomance: Happens to him three times: his first girlfriend is Allison, a human, his second girlfriend is Kira, a kitsune and his third girlfriend is Malia, a werecoyote.
* ItsAllMyFault: As one of the most powerful werewolves in Beacon Hills, Scott feels responsible for taking on supernatural threats to the town and keeping everyone safe, and blames himself when bad things happen.
** He admits this verbatim after an attempted sting operation to capture the Dread Doctors results in Liam and Hayden being abducted by the Doctors.
* KubrickStare: Scott often stares down his opponent by tilting his head down and looking up beneath his brows.
* TheLeader: He has a natural ability to lead people and he inspires people to listen to him and follow him. Scott is a combination of Type II and Type IV.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Scott's devotion to his friends, to justice, his morals helps keep Stiles, Derek and even [[FaceHeelTurn Allison]] more stable.
* LovableJock: Scott may be a lacrosse player, but he doesn't lose his underdog charm... most of the time.
* LyingToProtectYourFeelings: Does not tell Allison about the circumstances surrounding her mother's death when he really, really should have. [[LiarRevealed Called out on it]] in season 3A by Derek.
* MagneticHero: He inspires loyalty and has much admiration from other people. All part of being a [[TheChosenOne True Alpha]].
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: Once Allison starts her training as a werewolf hunter, Scott and Allison find themselves on opposite sides of TheMasquerade. This twice comes between them: when Allison first discovers Scott is one of the werewolves her family is hunting and when Allison's mother commits suicide after being bitten, causing Allison to be a lot less sympathetic to werewolves in general.
* MoralityPet: Scott is more or less Derek's werewolf Jiminy Cricket, but he also helps Isaac find his way back to more acceptable social behavior. Without Scott, Stiles would probably be even more likely to fall into cruelty, and give in to his abusive tendencies
* MrFanservice: Scott is attractive and often has his shirt off, exposing his buff chest, abs and arms. This seems to be an ongoing thing in order to entice the female viewers.
* NaiveNewcomer: In Season 1, the circumstances around Scott being turned into a werewolf makes him a complete newbie to the supernatural side of the world, and it isn't until Derek's arrival and extensive researching on Stiles' part that Scott truly begins to understand how being a werewolf affects his daily life.
-->'''Stiles''': You're so unprepared for this.
* NerdyInhaler: An asthmatic, Scott carries one of these in the Pilot. Needless to say it becomes obsolete, as soon as he turns into a werewolf.
* NiceGuy: Scott is a friendly, sweet guy to basically everyone.
* NowLetMeCarryYou: Stiles always had Scott's back during Season 1 when Scott was turning into a werewolf, helping him adjust and keeping him from ''killing'' someone. In Season 3B, when Stiles is possessed by the Nogitsune, Scott does everything he can to help Stiles and cure him.
* OfficialCouple: Scott and Allison were the lead couple of the show in the first two seasons. After they split up prior to Season 3, Scott meets and falls in love with Kira, who soon becomes his new official love interest. Afterwards, Malia becomes his third and last girlfriend.
* OnlyFriend: Initially he and Stiles are this to each other. While Scott does try to become more popular during Season 1, but two of them are usually too busy dealing with his werewolf problems to get much of a social life. By Season 3 Scott's content with a circle of TrueCompanions even if a mishmash of werewolves, hunters and banshee's isn't exactly what he envisioned.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: As befits a teen-targeted show, Scott is a random teenage nobody before a chance encounter with an Alpha werewolf puts him at the center of the supernatural weirdness in Beacon Hills.
* TheParagon: Scott is the kind of hero who lives to help and save others, but also show others how they can help and save themselves. He is a True Alpha after all and is basically the ''Teen Wolf'' version of ''Superman'' and ''Captain America''.
* ParentalAbandonment: Scott's father walked out on him and his mother when he was a child, and doesn't even speak to Scott again until he returns to Beacon Hills nearly a decade later.
* PartTimeHero: Scott may want to help, protect and save everyone and make sure everyone is happy and alive, but he also wants as much of a teen life and sense of normalcy as possible.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Scott is often seen wearing the colors red and blue, indicating at his heroic status.
* ProHumanTranshuman: Even after he becomes a werewolf, Scott remains concerned with the safety and well-being of humans, essentially viewing himself as a human with some additional perks.
* TheProtagonist: The story initially focuses on Scott dealing with his lycanthropy before moving on to him protecting Beacon Hills from supernatural threats. By WordOfGod, though the teen werewolf premise could continue with the new characters introduced in Season 4, the series will end when Scott's story is over..
* TheRival:
** In Season 1, he becomes this to Jackson, due to his newfound popularity and athletic prowess, which make him a Lacrosse shooting star. Naturally, Jackson doesn't take it too well.
** In season 3A, Deucalion tries to invoke this InUniverse between Scott and Derek, but isn't all that successful.
* RoarBeforeBeating: Usually almost all werewolves on the show do this but Scott usually plays this trope to a tee.
* SamaritanSyndrome: From season 2 onwards, Scott firmly feels the need to protect and save everyone he can, because he has the power to do so.
* SaveTheVillain: Scott has instances of wanting to save even the villains: notable examples include Jackson in Season 2, since he murdered people as the Kanima, but wasn't consciously responsible for his deeds and Stiles in Season 3B when he was possessed by the Nogitsune.
* SecondLove: He's initially confident he'll get back together with Allison after their break up at the end of Season 2, but later moves on and starts dating Kira in 3b and is still happy with her in Season 4 and 5 after Allison's death.
* SecretIdentity: Scott keeps his identity as a werewolf a secret from the public due to the many dangers surrounding him (including werewolf hunters).
* TheShadowKnows: In "Anchors", Scott hallucinates seeing his shadow transform into a more bestial alpha form as a symptom of his HeroicBSOD caused by his Druid sacrifice.
* ShirtlessScene: Like nearly all of the very good-looking males on the show, Scott gets a lot of these. Sometimes, they even have plot reasons.
* ShouldntWeBeInSchoolRightNow: Scott always misses out on school due to being a werewolf... which causes him to have terrible grades and risk being held back a year.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Although he is capable of bravery, resourcefulness and heroism when fighting or battling the bad guy, Scott is still the same clumsy and awkward person he was before he came a werewolf.
* StarcrossedLovers: With Allison. He's a werewolf; she's a werewolf hunter. Even when they can personally reconcile this, the antagonism from her family and his fellow werewolves ensure it will always be an issue. Allison ends up dying in Scott's arms at the end of season three.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Scott's strength and determination usually comes from his loved ones and will keep fighting for them. Also this goes for all werewolves as they make a pack they don't just have strength in numbers they grow stronger physically.
* ThePowerOfLove: Werewolves learn to control their massive rage by focusing on an ''anchor'': this can be a feeling, a mantra, an object, or a person. In Scott's case, it's his love for Allison.
* ThouShaltNotKill: Scott believes that even if someone is a monster, killing them shouldn't be the first option.
* UnskilledButStrong: During Scott's first stages as a werewolf he was very strong even though he was basically an Omega at the time he was strong enough to take on Derek, who had years of experience under his belt, and could overpower him. As well as being able to damage Peter in his Alpha form after he was engulfed in flames by a molotov but despite the size difference Scott did the unimaginable by being able to push him backwards. Subverted in later seasons when he starts to get control of his werewolf side and then he becomes more WeakButSkilled even allowing lower ranked werewolves to overpower him despite being a True Alpha.
* UnstoppableRage: Under the influence of the moon Scott used to into fly into an animalistic fury due to his inexperience. Though in later seasons he doesn't rage as much as he did but he still has his moments where he goes berserk when his friends are in danger.
* WeakButSkilled: Kincaid even states that he indeed has the eyes of an Alpha, but questions on where his strength has gone. Scott has managed to control his werewolf form to the point where his fighting ability has suddenly decreased and is cost on losing end in a fight, though it's actually not the control it's his pacifistic views is what really holds his powers back.
* WhatTheHellHero: One of the major signs that he's increasingly losing his composure in Season 5A is when he [[MindRape forcibly invades Corey's memory]] with his claws to find out the Doctors' location after they kidnapped Liam and Hayden. Lydia calls him out on his out-of-character action, and sharply reminds him afterwards that he could have badly hurt Corey. Unfortunately doubles as {{Foreshadowing}} for Theo attacking her in the mid-season finale, since this is the moment where [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Theo learns of this specific skill]].
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatPerks: When Scott is turned into a werewolf and gains powers and abilities, he initially doesn't use his powers and abilities for deep, meaningful purposes, but to become a great Lacrosse player. Once he notices how dangerous the supernatural world really is, however, he dials the heroism up a notch and focuses more on protecting the town and everyone in it.

!!''' "Stiles" Stilinski''' (portrayed by Creator/DylanOBrien)
[[quoteright:340:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stiless6_2.jpg]]

->''"I'm 147 pounds of pale skin and fragile bones, sarcasm is my '''only''' defense!"''

Stiles is Scott's best friend, and also the only person who Scott tells about his transformation at first. Loyal and caring to those few he loves, Stiles is more cynical and pragmatic than Scott, and keeps his vulnerabilities well hidden under a unique gift for snarky comments. He's very protective of his widowed father, Sheriff Stilinski, and holds a special torch for Lydia, who over the course of the show turns into another trusted friend. After having been possessed by a Nogitsune who forced him to fight his friends in Season 3B, he is currently helping his girlfriend Malia adjust to humanity and living life as a were creature.
----
* ActionSurvivor: As an untrained human young man amongst trained hunters, werewolves, and worse, Stiles should reasonably be monster chow. Instead, through wits and pluck, he manages to not only stay alive, but often play a crucial part in the heroes' success.
* AfraidOfNeedles: Stiles appears to have a fear or a phobia of needles, since Stiles was seen passing out at the sight of needles, as evidenced when he saw Scott getting a tattoo.
* AgonyOfTheFeet: Stiles is revealed in the series finale to have gotten his toe “obliterated” while attempting to save Derek.
* AlliterativeName: Played with. His real name seems to be unpronounceable, so that even his father uses Stiles, leading to the alliterative ''Stiles Stilinski.''
* AmbiguouslyBi: While Stiles has harbored a long-term crush on Lydia and is clearly attracted to Malia, he is also very interested in whether or not he's attractive to gay guys, and asks both Scott and Danny whether they find him attractive. After his dad [[ItMakesSenseInContext finds him at a gay bar]], he tells his dad that he "could be gay." Additionally he seems almost disappointed when Danny's offer to sleep with him turns out to be a joke, and takes serious pause when Caitlin asks him if he's also into guys.
* AxCrazy: Briefly as was possessed by the Nogitsune, he developed a cold and ruthless attitude that enjoyed killing those in his way.
* BackFromTheDead: Along with Scott and Allison, after the three of them undertake a Druid sacrifice to the Nemeton in the place of their parents in mid-Season 3. They are resurrected in the following episode, but with [[EnemyWithin major]] [[EnemyWithout consequences]].
* BadassBookworm: Stiles has an exceptional mind for research, which helps both his group of friends and his father to solve the complex problems routinely endangering Beacon Hills.
* BatterUp: A baseball bat is his go-to weapon as the series progresses.
* BloodOnTheseHands: In Season 5, after killing Donovan Donati by accident and in self-defense, to his guilt and horror.
* BookSmart: It's stated in-universe that he has perfect grades despite his AttentionDeficitOohShiny symptoms.
* BrainsAndBrawn: Stiles is the Brains to Scott's werewolf Brawn. Stiles relies on his brains and intelligence to deal with the enemy while Scott relies more on action and physical combat to fight the enemy. This gets subverted as Stiles often acts without planning or even thinking things through
* BreakoutCharacter: Originally the {{Sidekick}} to TheProtagonist Scott, Stiles quickly became one of the most universally popular characters on the show.
* ButtMonkey: Goes through quite a bit of trauma, especially in the later seasons. And as of the series finale, Stiles has had a gun held to his head 6 times over the course of the show.
* CannotTalkToWomen: In Season 1, Stiles was shown to be incredibly awkward around Lydia, whom he had been harboring a crush on since third grade. He gradually grows out of it, befriending both Lydia, Allison and Cora Hale, and even getting a girlfriend in Season 4.
* CharacterDevelopment: In Season 1, Stiles is an awkward and slightly annoying kid, who goes hunting for mangled corpses in the woods and pines after a girl who doesn't even notice his existence; in Season 4, he is a lot more adjusted, has friends in addition to Scott, and a girlfriend who cares about him as much as he cares about her.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}:
-->'''Coach Finstock:''' For his final question for his mid-term exam, he detailed the entire history of the male circumcision.\
'''Sheriff Stilinski:''' Well...I mean...it does have...historical significance, right? I mean...\
'''Coach Finstock:''' I teach ''economics''.\
'''Sheriff Stilinski:''' [[OhCrap Ahh...crap]].
* TheConfidant:
** Whenever Scott needs someone to talk to, Stiles is there for him.
** Stiles and Lydia bonding at the school dance near the end of Season 1 leads to her trying to open up to him in Season 2. Unfortunately, he's too busy to listen to her at that time, but he does seem to become her confidant from Season 3 onwards.
* ConsummateLiar: By Season 5 he can successfully lie to werecreatures.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has a unique talent for quickly coming up with something witty and snarky to respond to. Hardly a scene goes by without Stiles quipping at something. He's very good at it, too.
* DemonicPossession: When the Nogitsune takes hold of him, it's not pretty.
* DemotedToExtra: In Season 6B, due to Dylan O'Brien's increased fame outside of Teen Wolf. He still appears, but is no longer listed as a regular, making Tyler Posey and Holland Roden the only actors to be regulars throughout the entire series.
* {{Determinator}}: Seen especially during Season 2, when Stiles is severely incapacitated by the Kanima's venom, but still crawls across whole rooms to try and help people.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Stiles has a habit of mouthing off at insanely powerful supernaturals or highly-trained combatants who already don't like him.
* DistressedDude: Stiles is a regular human lacking combat skills and magical training that he occasionally has to be saved from the bad guys.
* DitzyGenius: Though he is easily distracted - including writing an essay on circumcision on his ''economics'' midterm - Stiles has near perfect grades, is an amazing researcher and investigator, and he and Lydia are probably tied for the smartest characters on the show.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Stiles has spent nearly a decade obsessed with Lydia, while she remained blissfully unaware of his existence. Eventually, they develop a true friendship as they date other people, and [[spoiler:enter into a relationship in season 6]]. He also doesn't ask Lydia out after they become friends, proving to be perfectly happy with being her confidant and not making her uncomfortable. Thumbs up.
* DreamWithinADream: Stiles starts getting these after the Season 3A finale, to the point where he is genuinely unable to tell if he's awake or asleep.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Implied to have one, given how he goes by his nickname and the coach laughs out loud when he sees it. It's later revealed to be [[spoiler:Mieczysław]].
* EnemyWithin: During the Nogitsune’s possession of him. It starts by bombarding him with never ending nightmares, to the point where he starts to question reality, and then makes it appear as though he is dying from the same incurable illness as his mother. In the beginning Stiles is even thinks that it's his own mind degrading that it is slowly driving him insane. When it fully takes over his body, it also uses Stiles thoughts and personality to screw with his friends and cover his tracks.
* EnemyWithout: During the latter half of 3B, the Nogitsune somehow splits itself from Stiles, but keeps his body.
* EnterStageWindow: His common entry into the [=McCall=] residence is through Scott's window... before he has a key made.
* EvilFeelsGood: Stiles tells Malia in "The Benefactor" that the worst thing about being possessed by the Nogitsune was that he enjoyed every moment of it even while he was hurting everyone he loved.
** In Season 5, "Strange Frequencies", he admits to [[TheCorrupter Theo Raeken]] how inadvertently causing Donovan's death defending and saving his life felt.
-->'''Stiles''': One word ... good.
* AFriendInNeed: He sticks by Scott even after Scott nearly kills him during a werewolf transformation.
* GreatDetective: His main role within Scott's pack is to deduce where threats are coming from and who is behind them, using the police skills he picked up from his dad. He even has a board in his room linking the supernatural goings-on around Beacon Hills with string.
** He's so good at this that in Season 6, he ends up getting an internship working with the FBI.
* GreenEyedMonster: Stiles has a jealous personality, especially when it comes to his relationship with Scott.
* GuiltComplex: Season 2 reveals he blames himself for his mother's death and fears his Dad does too, despite the fact she passed away from frontotemporal dementia which he had no control over.
* HeroicBSOD: In Season 3B, from his guilt over his horror and guilt of remembering everything [[EnemyWithin the Nogitsune did while possessing him]]. It happens again severely in Season 5, after accidentally killing Donovan Donati in self defense. He gets better by the end of the season after taking advice from his father.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Scott and Stiles are inseparable and have been through everything together, good and bad. They often go through withdrawals if they are separated for too long, to the point that the worst punishment Scott's mom can think of for him in Season 2 is banning him from spending time with Stiles. In Season 5, their friendship hits a rough patch thanks to [[ManipulativeBastard Theo Raeken]], but they don't remain on the outs for long.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: Stiles is an irreplaceable friend not only to Scott, but to most of the other supernatural creatures that start populating their circle of acquaintances.
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace: Almost shoots Scott while fiddling with Allison's crossbow; the arrow is stopped thanks to Scott's [[SuperReflexes werewolf speed]].
* ImNotAHeroIm: Insists to his Dad in Season 2 that he's not a hero, despite having saved Scott and Beacon Hills from numerous threats, put his life on the line more times than anyone can count and kept up with supernatural creatures - werewolves, banshees, kitsunes, druids as well as trained hunters with nothing but determination, snark and quick-thinking.
* MissingMom: His mother Claudia Stilinski died of frontotemporal dementia when Stiles was nine years old. He blames himself for her death, if his hallucination of his father in Season 2 is anything to go by.
* MotorMouth: Once Stiles gets started on a tangent, there's practically no stopping him unless Derek's around to glare at or threaten him - and not even that's guaranteed to work all the time.
* MuggleBestFriend: To Scott. Aside from his brain and knowledge of supernatural lore, Stiles is utterly human. He also has no combat or hunter training, unlike Allison.
* NerdsAreVirgins: Invoked in Seasons 1-3, a fact that he bemoans often and loudly until Season 3 episode "Echo House" when he starts a relationship with werecoyote Malia who also swipes her V-card with him.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Stiles always gets up to some serious shenanigans like stealing police property and kidnapping one of his fellow students... which then causes his dad, the town Sheriff, to lose his job.
* NightmareFetishist: The series is set in motion by Stiles wanting to go into the woods to see a dead body. He delights in the fact that the police only find ''half'' of her. His reaction to Derek almost dying of wolfsbane poisoning, only to writhe around and then pass out from the cure, is a hearty "That was AWESOME!"
* NoSocialSkills: A mild version. Although Stiles is no where near anti-social, he is extremely socially awkward around people in general and doesn't seem to be overly comfortable around a larger group of people. In fact, Stiles seems to prefer the company of a few select people such as Scott, Lydia and Allison.
* TheNotLoveInterest: To Scott. Aside from Scott's Mom, Stiles is undoubtedly the most important person in Scott's life, having been the only one around since the beginning and helped him through every stage of his werewolf transformation. They also have multiple moments usually reserved for the love interest like Stiles [[{{YouAreNotAlone}} risking his life to talk Scott down from committing suicide]], Scott [[{{IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight}} pulling Stiles out of his possession by the Nogitsune]] and when [[{{UndyingLoyalty}} everyone else is gone confirming they still have each other - and always have.]]
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Fortunately, most of the persons who walk in on Stiles performing something dubious are wise enough to not ask.
* OnlyFriend: At the beginning of the show Scott and Stiles total circle of friends seems to consist exclusively of each other, although Stiles seems a lot less bothered about it than Scott is and is wary of hanging out with the popular kids. He also the only one Scott confides in about his new abilities. Subverted from Season 3 onwards when Allison, Lydia and Isaac have all been brought into the supernatural secret.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: His first name is famously difficult to pronounce and reduces Coach to giggles. Even his father calls him Stiles. [[spoiler:It's revealed to be Mieczysław. When he was little, he couldn’t even say his own name, and went by the name 'Mischief', which was the closest he could get.]]
-->'''Coach Finstock:''' You named your son Stiles Stilinski.\
'''Sheriff Stilinski:''' No. That's just what he likes to be called.
* OnlySaneMan: Not in general, but certainly to the newly transformed and hormone-addled Scott of Season 1.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Due to his MotorMouth, Stiles has a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.
* OralFixation: He has a tendency to chew on stuff, including lacrosse gloves, overabundances of curly fries, and an underused highlighter cap.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Feels this way in regards to both Scott and Jackson in the first two seasons. For Scott it's the fact that Scott has all the cool werewolf powers. For Jackson it's that Jackson is first in Lydia's heart.
* PlatonicLifePartners: After getting over his long-time crush for her between Seasons 2 and 3, Stiles has become this with Lydia. [[spoiler: Subverted when it turns out he's still in love with her, and in Season 6, they finally get a RelationshipUpgrade.]]
* PluckyComicRelief: Stiles usually falls into this role, with the notable exception of Season 3B, where he is [[NotHimself possessed by an evil spirit]].
* PragmaticHero: Stiles is rather pragmatic, in contrast to Scott, who is a lot more idealistic (see below).
-->'''Stiles''': "I say we just kill ([[BrainwashedAndCrazy Jackson]])."\
'''Scott''': "We're ''not'' killing him."\
'''Stiles''': "God, - Okay, okay. I got an idea."\
'''Scott''': "Does it involve breaking the law?"\
'''Stiles''': By now, don't you think that's a given?"\
'''Scott''': "I'm just trying to be optimistic."\
'''Stiles''': "Don't bother."
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:A ''very'' long awaited one with Lydia, as of Season 6.]]
* SanitySlippage: Basically the whole entire season 3B is about Stiles losing his mind and hurting people who he cares about. But he gets better in later seasons.
* SecretKeeper: In Season 1 he's the only one who knows about Scott's new abilities, figures out he's a werewolf and helps him adapt. He later becomes this for countless supernatural creatures that appear in Beacon Hills over the course of the series.
* SecretSecretKeeper: Season 3B reveals that he knew why Scott's father left - Melissa kicked him out when he accidentally hurt Scott in a drunken stupor - but kept quiet because Melissa was worried Scott would hate her if he knew.
* ShipperOnDeck: From the beginning, Stiles is a Scott/Allison shipper.
* {{Sidekick}}: In earlier seasons, Stiles feels he fulfills this role in Scott's life, fearing he might be forever the Robin to Scott's Batman.
* TheSmartGuy: The go-to person for research, random knowledge of the supernatural and is always the "one with the plan". He's very aware of the last one and comes down hard on himself if he fails. He's also generally two steps ahead of everyone else when it comes to figuring out ongoing mysteries.
* StepfordSnarker: Uses his near-constant sarcasm to hide, amongst other things, his grief over his mother's death, fears that his Dad blames him, the strain of keeping up with supernatural beings and the toll various traumatic experiences have taken on him in the last few years.
* StrongGirlSmartGuy: From Season 4 on, he is the Smart Guy to Malia's Strong Girl. Illustrated, when she tries to punch out a computer, while he stops her and opts for a less violent solution.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Had one in Season 3B, when he was possessed by the Nogitsune.
* SurvivorGuilt: In a hallucination in Season 2, it's revealed via his hallucination Stiles feels guilty for his mother's death and believes that his father blames him.
* TheTeamNormal: Despite being surrounded by werewolf hunters, a banshee, a kitsune, and assorted werecreatures, Stiles remains a {{muggle}}. It's subverted later on, when Mason joins the pack and eventually becomes his protégé.
* TeenGenius: Stiles is scatterbrained, but extremely bright. He is very adept at solving mysteries, and often figures out problems before others even notice them. He also has a very good intuition for people's intentions - everyone he suspects of being up to something is usually up to something.
* ThatManIsDead: Invoked when Stiles is possessed by the Nogitsune.
* TokenHuman: Stiles remains the only living main character without any supernatural abilities, save for his temporary possession by the Nogitsune, at least until Melissa, Chris, and his father are given main billing in the final season.
* TookALevelInBadass: He's still the least capable of Scott's pack in a one-on-one fight, but, compared to the first season, he's not afraid to jump into a fight if he's got no other choice. [[spoiler:Such as when he beans Mr. Douglass with his bat, saving Scott and Liam in the process.]]
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Stiles' favorite food are curly fries. Incidentally, he seems to share this trait with his father.
* UndyingLoyalty:
** To his father, despite all the trouble he causes him in the first two seasons.
** To Scott. When Scott tries to set fire to himself under the influence of wolfsbane, Stiles steps up to him to talk him out of it, despite the danger to himself. The very gesture helps Scott to snap out of it.
** To his jeep. [[spoiler: We learn in season 6 that he inherited it from his mother.]]
-->'''Lydia''': Maybe we should just walk.\
'''Stiles''': Hey, I will never abandon this jeep. You understand me? Ever. Ever.
* WaitHere: Stiles tells Lydia to wait in the Jeep while he and Scott look for Kira in "Galvanize". When she asks why, he tells her that he's only got one bat.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Stiles often laments his tendency to be stuck in the middle of whatever supernatural mess is unfolding in Beacon Hills, despite being a normal human.
* WouldNotHitAGirl: Discussed in Season 2. Danielle dunks his head in a pool to sober him up. Stiles says he might need to revisit this policy.
* YouHaveToBelieveMe: In Season 5, he pronounces this verbatim to Scott that he had no control in killing Donovan Donati. Scott doesn't believe him initially because of Theo Raeken's lie that Stiles did it on purpose and unnecessarily.

->''"Not all monsters do monstrous things."''

At the start of the show, Lydia's life is everything that a high schooler wants: she's popular and beautiful, her parents are rich, and she's in a relationship with the handsome JerkJock lacrosse captain, Jackson. However, underneath her snobby mask lies a brilliant mind with a talent for chemistry. After the events of Season 2, she takes a more active part in the supernatural world of Beacon Hills after beginning to display strange powers of her own. She's revealed to be a banshee in the third season.
----
* AcademicAlphaBitch: She is introduced as the typical snobby AlphaBitch who is dating the JerkJock, but is also a TeenGenius who excels at academics and she knows it.
* ActionSurvivor: Like Stiles, she has no combat training or supernatural fighting powers, so she has to rely on her [[BadassBookworm intelligence]] and the protective skills of her friends to survive.
* ActionGirl: Graduates to this in Season 5 after [[TeachMeHowToFight Parrish teaches her hand-to-hand]] and [[spoiler:Meredith shows her how to [[MagicalGesture use her banshee scream as a weapon]]]].
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Lydia seems to have a thing for troubled and edgy guys, such as Jackson and Aiden and, at least until she knew who he was, Peter Hale ''in his youth''.
* AlphaBitch: She rules the school with a manicured fist; no one showing up to her birthday party in Season 2 is considered a serious change in the usual dynamic.
* BadassBookworm: Lydia is a TeenGenius and TheSmartGirl who depends on her book smarts and her intelligence when contributing to plans, missions and battles.
* BetaCouple: Lydia and Jackson start out as the more stable, but bitchier, {{Foil}} to Scott and Allison. The stability doesn't last long.
* BlessedWithSuck: Lydia has the ability to find the dead and sense when death is near. She's as horrified and disgusted at this as you would expect.
* BookSmart: She's extremely gifted in chemistry, can read archaic Latin, and has a 5.0 GPA.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: [[spoiler:She broke up with Stiles because she kept having a dream that he died in a car accident, and she wasn't sure if it was a premonition or not.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: Over the course of the series, Lydia goes from a spoiled rich girl who is all about appearances and hides her intelligence behind snarky remarks and shallowness to a caring friend, who actively tries to help others. She also develops from a hapless bystander, who was frightened by the supernatural and her own powers, to a person perfectly willing to take on the scary weirdness of Beacon Hills and utilizing her strange skills to make the town a safer place.
* ChekhovsSkill: Inverted, due to the achronological order of Season 5: At the start of 5x01, Lydia displays heretofore unseen combat skills, throwing around grown men, and at one point fighting several foes at once. Over the course of the first ten episode we see her asking Parrish specifically to train her after she gets hurt in a fight, and after that see several training sessions between them.
* DeadpanSnarker: Lydia has a scarily sharp tongue, that she uses generously on both friend and foe.
* DefrostingIceQueen: At first she wants nothing to do with the main characters bar Allison, but as she gets more and more drawn into the supernatural world, she becomes nicer to Scott and Stiles.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Following her HeroicWannabe speech to Scott in The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Lydia becomes this in a very indirect way for the rest of the series. Looking back in retrospect, we see that the person who actively faces off with the forces of evil the most next to Scott is in fact Lydia. This is demonstrated by her proactive plan to deal with the alphas in the season 3a finale. It is most obvious, however, in De-Void, when ''Lydia'' is the one to go into Stiles's head along with Scott. Lydia was chosen because of her undeniable role as Scott's right-hand fighter.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: She's deeply unimpressed by the malevolent Alpha Kali's threats, and snarkily offers to refer the Alpha to a competent pedicurist to take care of her werewolf-clawed feet.
* DisappearedDad: Her parents are divorced and her mother has custody of her; her father rarely makes appearances in her life.
* DamselInDistress: She's kidnapped by the Nogitsune after he's exorcised from Stiles' body near the end of Season 3B, leaving it to Scott, Allison, Kira and Isaac to go rescue her. Season 5B has the Escape from Eichen two-parter in which the pack must come together to bust her out of Eichen House before she can be killed by Dr. Valack's experiments.
* DamselOutOfDistress: She nearly frees herself from Eichen on her own, combining hand-to-hand combat skills learned from Parrish with her newly weaponized banshee scream. Had Valack not used a glamour to disguise himself as Aiden, distracting her long enough for the guards to subdue her, she would have escaped with no help at all.
* DeadpanSnarker: Lydia's got a sharp tongue, which helps with her SnarkToSnarkCombat with Stiles - it even remains [[spoiler:after they fall in love, although the sass is much more affectionate by then.]]
* DivingSave: In "Motel California", she pushes Stiles and Scott out of the way of exploding gasoline from when Scott nearly blew himself up. Bonus points for letting out a BigNo in the process.
* DudeMagnet: Lydia is very appealing to the opposite sex and she is never short of male admirers. She has had the affections of Jackson (who was her main love interest and boyfriend), Stiles (who had a childhood crush on her), Aiden (who was her love interest in season three) and as of season 5, Deputy Parrish definitely shows some interest in her.
* TheFashionista: In the first season, Lydia is the style icon of the school. In Seasons 2 and 3A her iconic status suffers due to the strange things that happen to her, but she's still fashion-forward; and by the end of Season 3, she wears fashion for her own pleasure, without caring much if it impresses her schoolmates or not.
* FieryRedhead: Red-haired Lydia doesn't suffer fools gladly and seldom holds back in verbally destroying those who irritate her.
* {{Gaydar}}: She instantly indentifies Ethan as the gay twin [[spoiler:and somehow knew Jackson wasn't straight]].
* GirlyGirl: Lydia is very feminine and always up to date with fashion trends. As opposed to the other girls, she is almost exclusively seen in skirts or dresses, and usually favours heels over more practical footwear. Aside from Erica, she's also the only one of the teenagers habitually wearing full make up.
* GlassCannon: As of season 5, she's mastered her banshee scream. Using only the power of her voice, she can break bulletproof glass, send opponents flying through the air, and even shatter a human skull. However, ''Teen Wolf'''s banshees are only physically human, so Lydia lacks the superhuman strength and healing factor that her friends have. This is tempered somewhat by her hand-to-hand combat training, but there's only so much she can do against supernatural assailants like Sebastien Valet.
* HasAType: Lydia loves tall, handsome and muscular bad boys. [[DoggedNiceGuy Poor Stiles]] thinks he's none of the above.
%%* HearingVoices: How her banshee powers manifest. WordOfGod has said these voices are the whispers of other banshees that she can involuntarily communicate with over a supernatural frequency. Lydia can send voice-like messages of her own. She communicated with fellow banshee Meredith Walker in Season 3 "Insatiable".
* HeroicBSOD: In the flashfoward opening of Season 5, she's been locked up in Eichen House for a while.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: She becomes this with Allison over the course of the first three seasons. Culminates in Allison dying while doing her best to save Lydia. Lydia is quite broken up about it throughout Season 4.
* HiddenDepths: At least in the first two seasons, only a small handful of people know how much of a genius she really is. She slowly starts showing more of her intelligence after finding out she's a banshee.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Because banshees are so rare, nobody knows much about them, so she's at a loss at how to deal with her newfound powers -- especially since these powers involve her going into fugue states and finding dead bodies. This includes going to ''Peter Hale'' in order to find out more.
* ISeeDeadPeople: Hearing the dead is part of her powers as a banshee.
* TheImmune: She's immune to the Alpha's Bite. Turns out she's also immune to the Kanima's paralytic neurotoxin. Turns out it's because she's supernatural herself - a banshee.
* InTheBlood: Got her banshee powers from her paternal grandmother Lorraine.
* InsistentTerminology: She's not a psychic, she's a banshee.
* LadyOfWar: Compared to Malia, Hayden, and the other action oriented ladies of the show, Lydia tends to fight - and dress - much more elegantly. Specifically, the other ladies generally get up close with the enemy in a fight, and attack more bestially (such as it is). While Lydia is good in hand to hand combat too, her true strength lies in her banshee powers, and she generally utilizes them in tandem with graceful dodges and flips, such as in her fight with the Eichen House orderlies.
* TheLancer: When Stiles is possessed by the Nogitsune, she falls into the role for Scott. She again fills it in Season 6B, with Stiles acting as a silent partner from his FBI training in Virginia.
* LikesOlderMen: She briefly flirts with [[SilverFox Chris Argent]] and has ShipTease with Parrish.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: Downplayed. Lydia's father appears to be a normal human, but ''his mother'' was a banshee like Lydia.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Scott, Stiles, Allison and Jackson don't tell her anything about the supernatural world in Season 2, with serious consequences: since nobody really talks to her, nobody realizes until it's too late that Lydia is being mentally tortured and manipulated by Peter Hale into resurrecting him.
* LovableAlphaBitch: She is genuinely nice to Allison from the beginning and even names Allison as her new best friend, but over the course of the series she generally becomes more of a snarky, but supportive friend to people like Scott, Stiles, Isaac, Kira and Malia.
* MakeMeWannaShout: In season 5, we learn that her voice can be highly destructive if amplified and focused. Meredith teaches her how to use her [[MagicalGesture hands]] to direct her scream into a focused beam of sound strong enough to shatter glass and toss grown men through the air. Deaton says that if Valack succeeds in magnifying Lydia's abilities, her scream could become strong enough to kill everyone around her.
* MagicalGesture: She can use her hands to "push" her banshee voice as a weapon towards an intended target.
* MisterMuffykins: Has a small, fluffy, yappy dog named Prada.
* MsFanservice: Esasily the most openly sexual of the female main characters.
* MuggleBestFriend: Lydia is initially this to hunter Allison, as their normal-girl friendship contrasts with Allison's [[HunterOfMonsters double life]]. Subverted when it's revealed that between the two of them, Lydia is the one with supernatural powers.
* MySkullRunnethOver: Dr. Valack performs trepanation on her in order to amplify her precognitive abilities. She's quickly overwhelmed and nearly killed by the information that comes rushing into her head.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She dumbs herself down for Jackson's benefit; in reality, she has above a 5.0 GPA, IQ of at least 170, and is a master chemist at the age of sixteen. She also knows archaic Latin. (She got ''bored'' with classical Latin.)
* OnlyFriend: Mutually with Allison. Although Lydia is the most popular girl at Beacon Hills High, the only person other than her boyfriend that she is seen to be associated with is Allison and vice versa. This changes in season 3 when she becomes closer to the rest of the main characters.
* OurBansheesAreLouder: Lydia's scream appears to serve three purposes. Its most basic function is to drown out ambient sounds, allowing her to focus on the [[HearingVoices voices]] and messages that only she can hear. It can also have the opposite effect when those clairaudient noises get too loud and start to overwhelm her, in which case the scream seems to be an involuntary reflex to [[CatharticScream relieve tension]]. Finally, it can be used as a sonic weapon, capable of shattering bulletproof glass and pulverizing a human skull. Interestingly, [[WordOfGod Jeff Davis]] says that banshees on ''Teen Wolf'' don't count as supernatural creatures in the same way that werewolves, kanimas, and other creatures do. They're essentially human women with access to certain supernatural powers, in contrast to their usual depiction as a type of ghost.[[note]]In Irish mythology, banshees are classified as [[TheFairFolk fairies]]. Traditionally, Irish fairies are corporeal beings who have more in common with Tolkien's elves than any kind of immaterial spirit.[[/note]] Because of this, they can cross mountain ash barriers and even cast mountain ash themselves.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Stiles from Season 3 onwards. While Stiles had a crush on Lydia since third grade, Lydia apparently didn't even notice him until she becomes friends with Allison, and thus gets to know Scott and Stiles better. Eventually, both turn into trusted friends for her, and Stiles especially becomes her favourite [[SnarkToSnarkCombat verbal sparring partner]] and later, confidant. [[spoiler:Subverted, as she and Stiles later get a RelationshipUpgrade in Season 6.]]
* PowerIncontinence: Valack's "treatment" amplifies her powers to such a degree that they can't be contained. She comes dangerously close to killing herself and the rest of the pack when she loses control of her banshee scream.
* PsychicPowers: As a banshee, she can experience premonitions of death and connect telepathically with other banshees. She also seems to have a sixth sense about supernatural happenings.
* ReallyGetsAround: In Season 1: In a ten-minute span in one episode, she flirts with Jackson (her boyfriend), Scott (her friend Allison's boyfriend) and Mr. Argent (her friend Allison's father). After her split with Jackson at the start of Season 3, she spends the night before the first day of the new school year with a hot jock and scouts freshmen for eligible "candidates".
* RefusalOfTheCall: She's in serious denial about her powers in the first half of season 3. Later on she starts embracing them to help the pack and people in need.
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:With Stiles, circa Season 6.]]
* RichBitch: Her mother is rich and gets her whatever she wants, and she's the AlphaBitch of Beacon Hills High. Loses the bitchiness as she defrosts. Later on loses the "rich" as her family is going through financial problems in Season 4.
* RollerbladeGood: Is extremely good at ice skating, as evidenced in Season 2’s “Ice Pick”.
* SanitySlippage: After getting Bitten by Peter, she begins to have some serious hallucinations. In the Season Two premiere, she has a fugue state where she runs naked through the woods. Later on she's writing bizarre patterns on a blackboard in front of the class but doesn't remember doing it. She gets better, though.
* ScreamingWarrior: In the cold opener FlashForward of season five's first episode, Lydia is able to use her [[MakeMeWannaShout scream]] offensively, issuing sonic attacks to send opponents flying, alongside her hand-to-hand combat training.
* TheSmartGirl: Lydia is the smartest character on the show. She's a shoo-in for valedictorian with her 5.0 GPA and deep knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. This is invoked in-universe several times: In "Motel California", for example, she's seen browsing a book on Quantum Theory for some "light reading" on a school trip. She also aspires to win a Fields Medal, because Nobel doesn't have a prize in mathematics.
* SmartPeopleKnowLatin: She ''got bored'' with classical Latin, so she taught herself the archaic version.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: Often playfully bickers with Stiles with dripping amounts of sarcasm to match his. It's also a big component of her relationship with her mother.
* TeenGenius: In Season 1, she's a sixteen-year-old sophomore who can make Molotov cocktails from memory using the supplies in a high school chemistry room.
* TookALevelInBadass: The cold opening for season 5 shows that Lydia can throwdown in a fight if she needs to. And given it's a flashforward to an unknown time, it makes sense.
* TookALevelInKindness: Probably the biggest example in the show: she started out as a [[ObfuscatingStupidity (seemingly) vapid]] AlphaBitch, but gradually became closer to Scott and Allison, and later Stiles as well. Then she's forced to deal with her burgeoning Banshee powers and the involuntary emotional overload they bring. By the time the Darach and the Alpha Pack begin causing trouble, she's fully accepted that her role is to help Scott save people, and she's remains one of the most gentle people in the Pack going forward (though not without losing her sass).
* ToplessnessFromTheBack: In the season 2 premiere after she runs through the woods naked from a Banshee fugue state counting as a {{Fanservice}} moment - particularly to Stiles.
** Is seen taking a shower in the season 5 opening, which suggests to be a {{Fanservice}} moment. [[FanDisservice Only to find out]] it's a flashfoward, where poor Lydia is catatonic and locked up in Eichen House after suffering from a HeroicBSOD.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: In the penultimate Season 1 episode, Lydia is Bitten by Peter Hale - which he did intentionally to trigger her innate banshee powers.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Parrish, in Season 5. The Dread Doctors serve as a memorable MomentKiller.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Rather Violently future girlfriend. In 6.10, Stiles reappears in the locker room cursing. He makes for the door but a rider is waiting. Stiles grabs his arm to keep it from firing its weapon. It fires a gun but misses. Stiles calls out for Scott but [[BigDamnHeroes it’s Lydia’s Banshee scream that answers him. She throws the rider across the room.]] After that, they kiss.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Busts out a hurricanrana style rana on one of the Eichen House guards in the season 5 opener.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Lydia gives Stiles one of these in "More Bad Than Good", getting him past his Nemeton-induced HeroicBSOD. She reminds him that he's the one who "figures it out". The fact that she needs him to save her from a steel trap that's a hair away from going off on her ankle takes it up to eleven.

!!Malia Tate (portrayed by Creator/ShelleyHennig)
[[quoteright:340:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maliatate_7.jpg]]

->''"I don't have much practise in things like forgiveness. Some things I'm picking up fast. But others [...] I hate math."''

A werecoyote, Malia involuntarily changed under the full moon as a child and caused a car accident which killed her mother and sister. Ashamed by this, she spent eight years in the wild as a coyote and avoiding her father. It was only through the intervention of Scott and his pack that she became human again; now, as a member of the pack, she is readjusting to her humanity, human life and figuring out her feelings for Stiles. She's eventually revealed to be the biological daughter of Peter Hale and [[EvilMatriarch Corrine, the Desert Wolf]].
----
* ActionGirl: She's a werecoyote, so she is quite capable of taking care of herself in dangerous situations. She's also an...
* ActionGirlfriend: For Stiles. They break up near the middle of Season 5.
* AntagonisticOffspring: In Season 5, after she remembers her biological mother, the Desert Wolf, caused the car accident that lead to [[CynicismCatalyst her adoptive mom and sister's deaths]], Malia says she's going to kill the Desert Wolf.
* BrutalHonesty: When the Pack is captured by the Calaveras, Malia straight up says they should run for it leaving Lydia behind. When Kira asks would she leave Lydia behind as a coyote, Malia replies yeah and that if it were winter and she was weak and injured she'd eat Lydia first.
* BookDumb: Malia isn't too fond of mathematics and thus struggles initially in school. Regardless, she is an adept thinker. Considering the fact that she managed to pass with a C- despite having missed 8 years of school, jumping from simple elementary math to junior year, her intellect is very impressive.
* CallingParentsByTheirName: She calls her biological father, Peter, by name.
* ChangelingFantasy: Zigzagged. Malia is a were creature, who was adopted and raised by the seemingly all-human Tate family, until a TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening caused her to flee into the wilderness, where she lived as a coyote. Then, eight years later, she is forcibly turned back into a human by Scott's Alpha roar, and believes herself the biological child of the Tates. She finds out about her actual biological family in Season 4.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** Malia goes from desperately wanting to return to her coyote self to a highschool student with a boyfriend and a group of friends. After she falls for [[NiceGuy Stiles]] she was willing to abandon "anyone but him" at the start of Season 4, she grows to care about everyone else over the course of the season and in the end, wants to make sure everyone is safe.
** In Season 5, [[spoiler:she's a PragmaticHero who's willing to kill if necessary, but eventually learns to live by and even embrace [[IdealHero Scott's moral code and standards]], even sparing her birth mother, [[EvilMatriarch Corrine]] in the end by stealing the rest of her power]].
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Malia doesn't consider being forcefully turned back into a human a "rescue", no matter what Stiles and Scott might think, and doesn't hesitate to tell them this.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: In Season 5, she's trying to get her driver's license, but flashbacks to her family's tragic car crash make it a lot more difficult. It gets intriguing when she finally remembers that the crash was apparently caused by her biological mother.
* HappilyAdopted: While she seeks out birth father Peter, and is still trying to find her biological mother, she views herself as Malia Tate, and has an amiable relationship with her adoptive dad Henry.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Malia's time as a coyote has left her human morality somewhat underdeveloped. She'll usually be the first to suggest killing, violence, or kidnapping as a solution, only to be held back by Scott or Stiles.
* HowDoIShotWeb: As a coyote, Malia is unable to transform back into a human. Once forced into human form, she's unable to shift back or access her coyote powers. Fortunately, she joins Scott's Pack and he steps up as her mentor.
* HumanityEnsues: Scott's alpha "roar" snaps her back into human form. She initially doesn't know how to shapeshift back to being a coyote, and she is '''not''' happy about having to live as a human. Justified in that she feels guilt over her adoptive mother and sister's deaths and can't talk to her father Henry about it, something she couldn't feel as a coyote.
* IWishedYouWereDead: The last thing Malia said to her adoptive mother Evelyn. Since she caused the car crash that killed her and her younger sister, and has no memory of the exact circumstances, she wonders if she might have killed them deliberately. In Season 5, she slowly starts remembering the night of the crash, and realizes that it was caused by the Desert Wolf attacking the car, which in turn lead to Malia's TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening.
* InTheBlood: After learning who her biological father is, she worries she might end up a killer like him (as she already considers herself responsible for the death of her adoptive mother and sister).
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Being in the woods as just a coyote, she doesn't see the big deal in being naked around others, nor does she understand the implications when Stiles' dad see them both with chains. Perhaps the best example of this is in the first episode of Season 6: Malia returns to Scott, Stiles, and Lydia after attempting to sniff out some missing people in coyote form. She shifts back right in front of them, in the middle of a police impound lot (at night, they're the only ones around), Lydia hands her clothes back, and they discuss the problem as she gets dressed. Implying she stripped down, gave her clothes to Lydia for safekeeping, and then shifted into a coyote to start all this. No reacts to this as if it is even slightly unusual.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: As soon as Malia realizes she's no match for Peter, she hands him what he wanted.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: The other characters keep the fact that she's Peter's biological daughter from her for quite some time. She's not exactly pleased when she finds out.
* LongLostRelative: She's Peter's biological daughter and therefore first cousin to Derek and his sisters.
* MissingMom: Malia's biological mother is a werecoyote named Corrine, also known as the Desert Wolf - an assassin.
* MuggleFosterParents: Malia is a werecoyote, whose parents, Henry Tate and his late wife Evelyn, are apparently human. Turns out her biological parents are Peter Hale and a werecoyote known as ''The Desert Wolf''.
* NewTransferStudent: Once she joins Scott's Pack, Malia decides to enroll at Beacon Hills High School as the newest transfer student in Season 4.
* NoSocialSkills: Malia relies on her coyote instincts first, which ends up in blunt honesty, inability to understand some phrases, and sarcasm, which can put people off. Stiles is trying to teach her how to be a functional human being. Often played for laughs.
--> '''Ms. Flemming:''' Has anybody seen Lydia, Kira and Stiles? Malia? Have you seen your friends?\
'''Malia''': I could try catching their scent?
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: For Season 4, along with Kira.
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:Somewhere in between the events of the series and the movie, she and Scott broke up, and she started hooking up with Parrish. Her unwillingness to have a "proper" relationship upgrade drives him nuts, though she promises that they'll have the talk if they survive the Nogitsune.]]
* SelfMadeOrphan: Considers herself responsible for the death of her adoptive mother and sister. However, in Season 5 it turns out her biological mother, Corrine, had a hand in causing the car crash and thus Malia's transformation, making her killing her mother and sister an accident.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism:
** Her emotional journey in Season 5. When the [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Chimera]] [[NotHimself Tracy Stewart]] goes on a killing spree, including [[SelfMadeOrphan killing her own father]], Malia is content with "[[ShootTheDog putting her down]]". After she has Tracy subdued and at her mercy, however with the Scott's urging and encouragement, she ultimately decides to [[IdealHero try and save Tracy]] instead successfully snapping her out of her night terror, and succeeds. Unfortunately, the Dread Doctors [[KillTheCutie murder Tracy]] right afterward, to her trauma. Eventually after several more Chimeras are killed, a [[BrokenBird broken Malia]] says she's not like Scott, she can't handle another body.
** After learning the Desert Wolf was responsible for her family's car crash, Malia is stoic in her decision to kill her mother, leaving Scott's Pack knowing Scott would never approve, though she eventually finds her way back. In the end, she chooses to be a full-on ideal hero, by sparing the Desert Wolf, getting justice by draining her power and imprisoning her with Braeden's help instead.
* SmashSisters: With Braeden in Season 5 after learning the Desert Wolf is out to kill her.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To her birth mother, Corrine.
* StrongGirlSmartGuy: Though by no means stupid, she's still the Strong Girl to her boyfriend Stiles' impressive Brains.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She is seen only wearing jeans, being rather brash, openly honest, quick to fight and take action. She is the Tomboy to Lydia's GirlyGirl.
* {{Tsundere}}: Her first interaction with Stiles at Eichen House is to deck him. Later that night, they hook up.

!!Liam Dunbar (portrayed by Dylan Sprayberry)
[[quoteright:340:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liams6_6.jpg]]

->''"I don't mean I'm not strong or I'm never gonna learn how to be in control. I mean everything else. You and your friends try to protect everyone. Have you been whole this the whole time? I mean, how are you all still alive?''"

A freshman and extremely gifted Lacrosse player, who transferred to Beacon Hills High School in Season Four. Scott accidentally bit him trying to save his life and he consequently became Scott's first Beta.
----
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: In Season 5, Stiles treats him as this, but it is rather obvious that they are very fond of each other.
* TheAtoner: Liam feels remorse for how his actions stemming from losing his temper have hurt his parents, he shows shades of this, wanting to make up for his mistakes.
** Also he persistently wants to mend fences with Hayden for his accidentally damaging her face back in sixth grade.
** In Season 5B, after he'd been duped by [[ManipulativeBastard Theo Raeken]] into almost killing Scott, Liam desperately wants to do anything to make it up to Scott.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Hoo boy, he and Hayden have this in spades.
* TheBerserker: Thanks to his anger problems which are intensified after becoming a werewolf, Liam is prone to berserker-like rage episodes.
** A severe case in the season 5A finale where Liam tries to kill Scott out of misplaced anger, because of [[ManipulativeBastard Theo Raeken]] and the supermoon feeding his bloodlust.
* BigBrotherWorship: Played with in that Scott is actually his Alpha and he was Bitten by Scott. Gradually over the course of Season 4, after his formal Rival Brett tells him how unique Scott is as he is [[TheChosenOne a True Alpha]] and cemented after Liam helps Scott break free of Kate's Berserker transformation.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He does have some anger management issues which lead to him getting expelled from his last school after vandalizing his former coach's car. His old Lacrosse team still hates him for it.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: When he first tries to convince Hayden of the supernatural, he does so by roaring at her as a werewolf. A terrified Hayden screams and punches him in the face.
** More extremely when [[ManipulativeBastard Theo Raeken]] convinces Liam that [[EmergencyTransformation the Bite could save Hayden's life]], he immediately tells Scott to do so and when Scott (reasonably) says no, [[TheBerserker he tries to kill Scott out of rage]].
* EmergencyTransformation: A twist on the usual formula. Scott is forced to Bite Liam not due to the latter being grievously wounded, but because he's dangling off a ledge. Scott tries to save him but his arms are being held back, so the only thing he can grip Liam's arm with is his teeth. The transformation itself was unintentional, but an unavoidable side effect.
* FunWithAcronyms: Liam has intermittent explosive disorder. Stiles is quick to note that he's an [=IED=].
* GenerationXerox: Purposefully invoked by the show. Liam's first few days as a werewolf mirror Scott's pretty much exactly, right down to a doofy older werewolf telling him they "are brothers now" and the clever MuggleBestFriend, who seems to be slightly more observant than Liam.
* HairTriggerTemper: Suffers from Intermittent Explosive Disorder. Also the reason he got kicked out of his last school. He actually seems to get calmer once he has adjusted to being a werewolf, though it's shown in Season 5, he's still learning to master his werewolf rage during the full moon.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Though Mason is gay, he is Liam's best friend.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Liam experiences one when Scott attacks him while transformed into a Berserker. He manages to snap him out of it.
* LeaderWannabe: "Memory Lost" reveals that he wants to be the "Alpha" when Scott graduates from school and leaves Beacon Hills for college.
* MrFanservice: Once Dylan Sprayberry turned 18, the show started taking full advantage of his impressive physique and now has him showing off.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He feels this way because of how his rage problems got him kicked out of his last school and hurt his parents, the way they looked at him like a monster.
* NeckLift: Happens a lot to him, most likely because he's the newest and youngest werewolf around. He may be very strong, but nearly everyone else is still that much stronger.
* NewTransferStudent: In Season 4, after he was expelled from his old school.
* PluckyComicRelief: During the early episodes of Season 5 his storyline is notably lighter, to contrast the darkness of the main plot.
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: For Season 5.
* RescueRomance: Has this with Hayden when he identifies her as a Chimera and brings her into the supernatural world, and consistently comes to her aid and defends her from the Dread Doctors. Doesn't take long for Hayden to fall for him.
* SixthRanger[=/=]TagalongKid: His role in the Pack during the latter half of Season 4.
* SuperStrength: Even more so for a werewolf his age, according to Derek because of his innate anger.
* UnstoppableRage: Liam has some real intense rage issues. He suffers from Intermittent Explosive Disorder which means he has a HairTriggerTemper and goes into a berserker rage severely easily especially since he's a werewolf.
* UnwittingPawn: To Theo, when he tricks Liam into thinking the Bite could save a dying Hayden, and Scott's refusal to say no angers Liam into nearly killing Scott, because [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou only Liam can steal Scott's True Alpha status]], then Theo can [[KlingonPromotion steal the power]] by killing Liam afterwards.

!!Sheriff Noah Stilinski (portrayed by Creator/LindenAshby)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tw_sheriffstilinski_5.jpg]]

->"''Your ''best friend'' is a werewolf. You're ''dating'' a werecoyote. I still don't know what Kira's supposed to be. When the flying monkeys come soaring through this station, you will have my undivided attention. Until then... just go to school.''"

Stiles's father, a widower and the Sheriff of Beacon Hills. A well-meaning and loving father to Stiles, and intelligent and overworked, Noah does his best to protect and enforce the law in his town. Initially, Noah has no clue of the actual, supernatural elements of Beacon Hills going on within his town which hampers his ability to do his job in spite of Stiles and Scott encountering and fighting against them on a nightly basis. Finally, in Season 3, he is let in on the supernatural business, he's less than thrilled, but uses his newfound knowledge and perspective to solve cases old and new more effectively, and enlisting the help of Scott's Pack in solving crimes concerning those elements.
----

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents:
-->'''Sheriff Stilinski:''' He's on the ''team''. He's...he's on the ''field''. ''MY SON IS ON THE FIELD!!!''\
'''Stiles:''' Oh, dear God.
* BadassNormal: One of the few characters without any powers, he has to fall back on his wits and his gun - which usually is more than enough.
* BenevolentBoss: Is very popular with his subordinates, to the point where Agent [=McCall=] is openly antagonized when leading an investigation against him.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** In Season 3, he saves Dr. Deaton from hanging when Scott is unable to due to a Mountain Ash barrier.
** In the Season 4 finale, he saves Lydia and Mason by blowing up the Berserker who threatened them.
* ByTheBookCop: He's this initially, trying to justify the supernatural events around his city despite it becoming increasingly difficult to do so. Finally, when he's forced into acceptance, he partially subverts this trope by being aware of (and actively fighting against) the supernatural, but attempting to do so in a manner that follows police procedure. This gets him chewed out by both his son and Melissa, who know better.
* DaChief: Highest ranked officer of the law in Beacon Hills.
* DeadpanSnarker: He can hold his own against his son most of the time.
* AFatherToHisMen: Really doesn't like it when you try to kill his deputies.
* GoodParents: He's a very good father and does the best he can for his son.
* HappilyMarried: Going by his devotion to her memory he was certainly this with Claudia, Stile's mom.
* LikeASonToMe: He has this type of relationship with Scott, doubtlessly also because Scott and Stiles have been joined at the hip since grade school.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: While Scott wants to tell him about the supernatural world, Stiles is very adamant about keeping it secret, fearing that his father might get hurt if he knows too much. Naturally, this doesn't work out for long, and the Sheriff gets introduced to Beacon Hills weirder side at the end of Season 3A.
* {{Mentor}}: He comes to rely on Parrish a lot and seems to be training him as a possible successor.
* TheMourningAfter: For most of the series he still wears his wedding ring even though his wife died at least six years ago.
* OnlySaneMan: It's pretty obvious that he feels like this around Scott and Stiles a lot of the time.
* PapaWolf:
** He reacts ''very'' badly when someone kidnaps and beats up his son. He probably would've gone after the Argents himself if Stiles had told him the truth.
** It’s likely that harming Scott would set off a BerserkButton, too.
* ParentalSubstitute: To Scott and later to Malia. His relationship with Parrish occasionally has hints of this, particularly in Season 5.
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: In Season 6.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He ''is'' the sheriff.
* TeamDad: Once he figures out about the weird things in Beacon Hills, he joins with Chris in this regard.
* TenMinuteRetirement: Fired when his son's unexplained night-time activities pile up a bit too high in Season 2. Re-hired after Matt's murder.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: In Season 5, he's shown to be increasingly frustrated with having to obscure the involvement of the supernatural in crimes, especially when it leads to denying closure to the families of victims. This culminates in him arresting Kira, when it's apparent she could have killed a Chimera [[SuperPoweredEvilSide under the influence of her Fox spirit]], to the anger of Melissa and Kira's parents, who feel he should help protect the kids.
** [[spoiler:He ultimately chooses "Good" after learning Stiles killed Donovan purely out of self defence, and if a judge didn't see it that way, "then hell with the judge"]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Curly fries.
* WhatTheHellHero: Melissa delivers one of these to him, when he takes his duty a little too far and has Kira arrested in "Ouroboros." Stiles follows this up calling him out on arresting people he knows are innocent, Kira when it appears she could have been [[BlueAndOrangeMorality under the control of her Kitsune spirit]], and when her father confesses to the crime to get Kira off.

->"''I know I can't be the mom that says "I don't want you to do anything about this." 'Cause you're always going to be involved. 'Cause not only do you have the power to do something ... you care enough to do it.''"

Scott's snarky but well-meaning single mother, who is a registered nurse at the Beacon Hills Memorial hospital. She has no idea of her son's double life until the end of Season 2, but gets heavily involved in his dealings with the supernatural once she does, serving as his role model and moral tether.
----

* ActionGirl: As mentioned below, she's not as combat capable as most of the cast, but when she has to, she's able to hold her own.
** [[spoiler:By the movie, she's able to take out an Oni with a crossbow, and she does it with remarkably cool resolve.]]
* ActionMom: While she largely stays out of the fray, she's certainly not phased by the Alphas, as evidenced by her taking defibrillators to the Merged!Twins when they attacked her son. Generally, if Scott's in trouble, ''stay out of her way.''
* BadassNormal: [[spoiler:By the events of the movie, she's become a frontline fighter alongside the other parents, easily taking an Oni out when she, Chris, Jordan, Malia, and Peter arrive to help fight them.]]
* CombatMedic: Played with; as of Season 6B, Scott is very much attempting to train his mother in self-defense. She, however, insists that her skills are better served as strictly TheMedic. Circumstances force her to do exactly what her son wanted, and she ends up joining in fights in the final battle.
* DeadpanSnarker: She’s probably the snarkiest person on the show. One shining example is when Scott and Isaac fall asleep watching over her, she smiles and flatly responds to it:
-->'''Melissa:''' ...my heroes.
* GoodParents: Not just to Scott, but to Stiles and Isaac too.
* HandsOffParenting
-->'''Melissa:''' Don't either of you care that there's a ''police-enforced curfew''?\
'''Scott and Stiles:''' ...no.\
'''Melissa:''' ''[[ScrewThisImOuttaHere *Walks Away*]]''. All right, that's enough parenting for tonight.
* MamaBear:
** She does ''not'' react kindly to Mr. Argent's implication that her son is dragging down his daughter.
** It’s also a very poor idea to screw with Stiles or Isaac around her.
** Goes so far as to [[spoiler: threaten to KILL Liam if he hurts Scott again after he almost killed him at the end of season 5A.]]
-->'''Liam:''' You still mad at me?
-->'''Melissa:''' No. [[spoiler:But if you try to kill my son again, I'll put you in one of these (a body bag) myself.]]
* TheMedic: As a nurse, she's usually the character who is approached when people are injured. After she finds out about the supernatural, she commonly gets called to those cases Deaton can't patch up in his vet clinic.
* NervesOfSteel: After coming into contact with the supernatural, she has some indeed. She took a defibrillator to the Merged Alpha twins when they attack Scott. She manages to talk back at [[BigBad Deucalion, the Demon Wolf]], unafraid. Her colleague Dr. Geyer even remarks nothing seems to faze her.
* ParentalSubstitute: Early on, she's not all that pleased Stiles basically made her house his second home, but she grows softer towards him over the course of the series. When he sleepily tells her ''Thanks, Mom.'' in Season 3B, it sure chokes her up. She also becomes somewhat of a substitute mother to Isaac while he stays with the [=McCalls=].
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: In Season 6.
* ShipTease: With Argent in Season 6. [[spoiler: They kiss in the mid-season finale.]]
* TeamMom: She really grows into this for the Pack in the later seasons.
** Locks Stiles and Malia in a room together so they can sort out a fight in Season 4.
** Gets righteously angry at Stilinski in "Ouroboros," when it appears Kira has killed a Chimera under the influence of her fox spirit, and instead of trying to find out what happened, he promptly has her arrested.
* TookALevelInBadass: She starts actively getting involved in investigating alongside Chris.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With TeamDad Sheriff Stilinski, Stiles' father.
* VillainOverForDinner: In Season 1, she gets asked out on a date by Peter, the Alpha, much to Scott's horror.

!!Chris Argent (portrayed by Creator/JRBourne & Creator/MaxLloydJones)

->"''Our sons are trained to be soldiers... our daughters to be leaders.''"

Formerly the chief enforcer of the Argent family, Chris Argent became a protector of both innocent humans and supernaturals, after his daughter Allison, then the de facto leader of the Argent family, decided to change the Argent Code, turning them from [[HunterOfMonsters hunters]] into guardians. Even after her death, Chris remains a steady ally to Scott and his friends.
----
* AntiVillain: Of [[WellIntentionedExtremist Type III]], with some shades of [[NobleDemon Type I]]. In Seasons 1 & 2, Chris is an erstwhile hunter of supernaturel creatures even threatening teenagers in the name of protecting innocents. He draws the line at senseless murder however, and functions as the TokenGoodTeamMate of the Argent family.
** Subverted in the end of season 2, after he's helped his wife ''kill herself'', Allison started to become corrupted under his father's influence and Gerard's subsequent betrayal leaves him disillusioned in the hunters' cause where he graduates to AntiHero in season 3.
* ArmsDealer: He sells firearms and munitions to law enforcement agencies to conveniently explain why he has so many of them.
* BadassNormal: He often has to rely on knowledge, skills and weaponry against supernatural foes, but when it comes down to it, he really kicks ass.
* BeardOfSorrow: Grows one after Allison's death
* BeingEvilSucks: Granted, he does not initially see himself this way but he comes into this mindset when the [[HunterOfMonsters hunters' crusade]] practically destroys his family.
* BoyfriendBlockingDad: Understandably so, considering his daughter is dating a werewolf. Though roughing the kid around, holding a gun to his face, right in front of his daughter reducing her to hysterics and tears might have been a little over the line.
* CodeOfHonor: Pretty much the only Argent in the family who follows it to the letter.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After losing his entire family, Chris ends up getting his daughter back after she's brought back from the dead and it sticks]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In Seasons 1 and 2, toward his father and sister's genocidal attitude regarding wolves. It eventually reaches its peak when he and Scott team up to stop Gerard.
* GoodParents: He only wants the best for his daughter, even if that means protecting her from her own grandfather, or keeping her from dating werewolves.
* HunterOfMonsters: One member of a long line of people who have sworn to protect people from supernatural creatures, going back to the Beast of Gévaudan.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice[=/=]PinnedToTheWall: This happens to him in Season 4 courtesy of Peter Hale, whom he tracked down in the sewers. Fortunately, he gets saved by Parrish, who was also tracking Peter.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Parrish in Season 5.
* KnightTemplar: In Seasons 1 and 2, Chris genuinely sees his profession as a hunter as essential to the protection of human beings. He changes his mind after witnessing the destruction his father and sister cause, ultimately culminating in the deaths of his wife and daughter.
* KnightTemplarParent: After it comes out that his daughter's boyfriend is a werewolf, he puts a gun in Scott's face - to make Allison promise she won't see him again. The sole reason he hasn't followed through with his death threats is because he's gotten help from Scott before - well that and Allison would be devastated. His wife, not so much.
* LastNameBasis: Very few people call him 'Chris'. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Melissa.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Starts feeling this in Season 2, after he helps his wife kill herself and his daughter begins to show signs of becoming a psychopath like his father and sister.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Essentially what his CodeOfHonor is, and yes, for him this also includes werewolves. As long as the werewolf isn't proven to be dangerous he will not hunt them down.
* NotSoStoic: Sheds tears at his daughter's death.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: After Allison's death at the end of Season 3. [[spoiler:The movie averts this when Allison comes BackFromTheDead for good.]]
* PapaWolf: Seriously, stay away from his daughter. Especially romantically; he ''will'' shoot you.
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: In Season 6.
* RetiredBadass: He gives up on the hunting business between seasons 2 and 3, due to the strain on his family.
* ShipTease: With Melissa in Season 6. [[spoiler: They kiss in the mid-season finale.]]
* TheStoic: Being a Hunter pretty much requires you to be stoic and pragmatic. Even when off the job in Season 3 he still manages to take most of the drastic twists in stride. In "The Divine Move" he says he's always had an ability to suppress his emotions.
* TeamDad: Alongside Sheriff Stilinski, they're both sensible authority figures who look after the teenage protagonists (and sometimes fight alongside them).
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: In Seasons 1 and 2, with Scott. Less and less as the series goes on. In Season 4, his deal with the Calaveras has hints of this.
* TookALevelInKindness: Chris is initially the AntiVillain where he'll intimidate and maim werewolves believing it's essential to protect humanity - though he strictly believes in [[NeverHurtAnInnocent not killing]] if said werewolf proves to not be dangerous. He'd take the chance to [[KickTheDog being hostile]] towards people like Derek Hale. He had every intention of killing Scott, refusing to conscience his daughter dating a werewolf. Though after MyGodWhatHaveIDone and BeingEvilSucks, he comes to seeing some of them as valuable allies, he comes to be more amiable and accepting of his daughter's friends being only slightly irked when Allison starts dating "Another werewolf" - Isaac. He wholeheartedly agrees with his daughter's changing their code to guardians, even to supernaturals. He even comes to view Derek as an ally. When [[SacrificialLion his daughter dies saving her friends from the Nogitsune]], he gives a devastated Isaac ''a hug'' and later on though devastated himself he becomes TheFettered in upholding Allison's Code of "protecting those who cannot protect themselves."
* TraumaCongaLine: Loses his sister Kate in Season 1, has to help his wife commit suicide and realizes his father is a genocidal monster in Season 2, loses his daughter in Season 3, and finds out his sister isn't dead but has turned into a murderous werejaguar in Season 4. No wonder he's [[DespairEventHorizon giving up on life]].
** [[spoiler:Thankfully, at the end of the movie, [[EarnYourHappyEnding he gets his daughter back for good after Scott helps her regain her memories]].]]
* UnwittingPawn: In Season 2, Gerard plays him like a fiddle despite Chris's misgivings about his father's apparent genocidal attitude towards werewolves. But the kicker is that it is only after Chris helps his wife commit suicide because she has been bitten by a werewolf and will soon become one, something Gerard insisted that he do, that Chris learns that Gerard has been planning to become a werewolf himself in order to survive terminal cancer.

->''"I have an unfair advantage. You see these cheekbones? Aerodynamically suited for speed in water."''

Like Lydia, Jackson has a great life: his family is filthy rich, he's dating the most popular girl in school, and he's the captain of the lacrosse team. Everything changes, however, when Scott begins to outclass him - both on and off the field - because of his newfound abilities. Jackson, refusing to take second place, tries to figure out what Scott's really up to.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Jackson starts to feel that Scott is stealing the spotlight from him after Scott becomes a werewolf and therefore, begins to antagonize Scott and becomes his [[TheRival rival]].
* BeautyIsBad: Jackson is seriously attractive and doesn't break the stereotype that good-looking guys are major jerks with huge egos.
* BigManOnCampus: He's an arrogant and vindictive JerkJock who revels in being the big guy standing at the top of the high school social ladder who has it all: good looks, athleticism, popularity and money, which he's quick to remind everyone of.
* BondCreature: He was this as the Kanima during Season 2, given that he was bonded to his masters [[spoiler: [[BigBadWannabe Matt Daehler]]]] and [[spoiler: [[BigBad Gerard Argent]]]], the ones who were controlling him.
* BullyingADragon: Jackson has a bad habit of mouthing off and getting on the bad side to Derek, Peter, and Chris even after he finds out about how dangerous they are. He also tries to extort Scott after finding out he's a werewolf. Subverted when Scott wolfs out and slams him into a door, giving a hint that maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't try antagonizing someone who can rip you apart.
* CompetitionFreak: Jackson is a very competitive person when it comes to school sports or bowling. He's also shown to be extremely driven to being the best at whatever activity he does, almost to the point of obsession.
* CoolCar: As a rich kid, Jackson drives an expensive Porsche, and has no problem with flaunting that fact.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Jackson's birth parents were killed when his mother was still pregnant with him, having no identity, and having no idea where he came from.
* DeadpanSnarker: [[spoiler:By the events of the movie, he becomes this - he's much less of an arrogant ass and his sass is typically playful.]]
* DomesticAbuser: Jackson isn't always the best boyfriend to Lydia, there are times when Jackson is just downright abusive and a major jerk towards her.
* EntitledBastard: When he discovers Scott new status as a werewolf, Jackson doggedly aspires to become one as well, just so to be on equal grounds with Scott, resorting to extreme measures to do so, blatantly disregarding all the obvious reasons he shouldn't.
* EyeScream: A snake ''crawls out of his eye''.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: Derek bit him; but instead of becoming a werewolf, his body rejected the bite and he became a reptilian creature, the Kanima.
* HiddenDepths: Despite his JerkJock status, he's very much the OnlySaneMan at the start, and the only person not already in the loop who is the least bit curious about all the weird things happening to Scott.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: Much of his aggression towards Scott in Season 1 is because of Scott stealing his 'star' status, which makes him fall apart psychologically. Derek accidentally mind-whammying him while poisoned doesn't help.
* IceKing: Jackson is very arrogant, cold, cocky and generally unfriendly.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Underneath all of Jackson's bluster, he is actually a deeply insecure individual. He does ''not'' take well to someone out-doing him while he takes second place, irrationally fearing that if he thinks someone is better than him at anything he'll never meet the high expectations he has for himself. It turns out this stems from his feelings of being an orphan which is explained in a conversation between Adrian Harris and his adoptive father.
-->'''Mr. Whittemore:''' (Jackson)'s always been real hard on himself. It's just, you know, something we assumed was an effect of him being adopted.\
'''Harris:''' I think I understand. He's never met his biological parents.\
'''Mr. Whittemore:''' Yeah. That's right. It's the need to please the overachieving. The desire to make someone proud - someone he's never met.
* InterspeciesRomance: In Season 2, Lydia is seemingly human, while Jackson is first a kanima, and then a werewolf. In Season 3, Lydia is revealed to be a banshee, making the relationship interspecies all along.
* JerkassHasAPoint: As much as an asshole he might have been for blackmailing Scott, he was right on the nose when he called Scott out for being a cheater since he was using his werewolf abilities to play lacrosse. Scott himself acknowledges this in Season 4 when he tries to just use his human abilities instead of his wolf abilities.
* JerkJock: Jackson is the epitome of a jerk whose specialty is being a good athlete: cocky, arrogant and thinking he's better than everyone else. He likes to be the star on the lacrosse field and doesn't take lightly to any competition. When Scott gains werewolf abilities, Jackson becomes very jealous of him, and tries everything to find out his secret.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He does care about his friends, as few as they are and as much as he does not show it. He eventually drops the "Jerk" part by the time he comes back in the final arc.
* LonelyRichKid: Jackson is spoiled, rich and gets everything he wants. However, his deep-seated insecurity causes him to keep both his parents and other people at arm's length through his competitiveness and narcissisim.
* MixAndMatchCritters: Jackson is now fully werewolf and part kanima. This makes him resistant to the usual strain of wolfsbane that Hunters commonly use against werewolves. He can also still grow a reptilian tail when he wants to.
* MrFanservice: Jackson is an attractive young athlete drawn into a scary supernatural world: naturally, this leads to many scenes in locker rooms with lots and lots of shirt-changing.
* {{Narcissist}}: Being a spoiled and self-obsessed JerkJock, Jackson always comes of as being very full of himself.
* OnlySaneMan: He's the only one remotely confused by Scott's newfound athletic prowess.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: When Scott and Stiles kidnaps Jackson and doesn't want Jackson's parents to realize he was missing, Stiles sends a text from Jackson's phone impersonating him to explain why Jackson didn't come home. However, since the text ended with "love you" to his parents, they know something was wrong because Jackson hasn't been able to say that to them since he found out he was adopted.
* ParentalAbandonment: Jackson was adopted at birth and didn't know his biological parents, contributing to his lack of self-worth.
* PrehensileTail: A leftover of having been a kanima, although it is very useful when he is tied up by psychotic Hunters.
* PutOnABus: Before Season 3, Colton Haynes joined the cast of ''Series/{{Arrow}}'', leading to Jackson breaking up with Lydia and moving to London between Seasons 2 and 3.
** TheBusCameBack: He returns to help his friends in the last episodes of season 6 alongside Ethan, though they return to London afterwards. He later comes back for the movie.
* SanitySlippage:
** After Derek scratches the back of his neck and leaves him with aconite poisoning (and some accidentally submitted werewolf memories), Jackson displays strange behaviour throughout Season 1.
** Also, after Derek gives Jackson the bite in the beginning of Season 2, his body rejects the bite and starts to ooze black goo out of every orifice, on top of vivid hallucinations.
* ShipperOnDeck: Jackson picks up on Danny's crush on Matt and encourages his friend to go for it.
* TenderTears: When he realizes just how far Scott will go for him, he cries.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: After his reappearance in Season 6B, Jackson now displays a much more affectionate, relaxed and more selfless side, dropping the bad attitude from his younger years while still keeping a much benevolent level of confidence and charisma. When he meets Stiles again in the finale, he's significantly kinder to him than he was years before.
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: When Derek accidentally claws him in the back of his neck. It not only doesn't heal, but leads to bizarre hallucinations.

->''"It's okay. It's perfect. I'm in the arms of my first love. The first person I've ever loved. The person I'll always love. I love you, Scott. Scott [=McCall=]."''

Allison is the beautiful new girl in Beacon Hills. She's been sheltered from her family's double life as a clan of werewolf hunters. When she starts to fall for Scott the feeling is mutual. However, her lineage might complicate matters some and make her relationship with Scott tension-packed. In Season 3, she embraces her family legacy as leader of her family. Allison dies at the end of Season 3.
----
* ActionGirl: Once she gets combat training from her father, Allison is a strong, capable fighter who can hold her own in fights against werewolves and Oni.
* ActionGirlfriend: She may be the love interest of TheHero, Scott, but she's more than just the love interest or girlfriend. She is also an action girl and a capable fighter at heart who can stand up for herself.
* ActionSurvivor: Before she embraces the Argent legacy of being a werewolf hunter, Allison is ill-equipped to deal with the hunter/werewolf conflict her family and boyfriend are in.
* AlliterativeName: Allison Argent.
* AnchoredShip: After Scott and Allison break up due to their conflicting loyalties, their relationship remains on hold even though their feelings do not. They both eventually start dating other people.
* TheAtoner: Allison got a little arrow crazy at the end of Season Two (nearly killing/torturing Erica and Boyd). She feels genuinely remorseful about this, admitting she made mistakes. She more than makes up for this by saving Derek's Pack in a BigDamnHeroes moment midway through Season 3A. From then on, she's practically on a RedemptionQuest.
* BackFromTheDead: Shares this trope with Scott and Stiles in mid-season 3 when the three undertake a Druid ritual to find their parents where they sacrifice themselves temporarily to the Nemeton. After sixteen hours of being dead, they resurrect.
** [[spoiler:And it happens for real in the movie thanks to a Tibetan ritual and the Nogitsune's machinations. This time, it sticks, and she's reunited with her father and Scott.]]
* BeastAndBeauty: Scott is the Beast (a werewolf) and Allison is the Beauty (a beautiful human girl in love with him).
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Her father Chris is a werewolf hunter who protects innocent norms from dangerous werewolves. Her boyfriend, Scott in Seasons 1 and 2 is a werewolf. After she and Scott break up, she develops romantic feelings for Isaac Lahey - another werewolf. Does it need to be elaborated?
** Also a CMOF, when, in one episode, she and Isaac snap from UST and take their shirts off. Then Chris walks in.
--> '''Chris''': "''Allison''. Can I see you in my office?" *Glares at Isaac* "Where I keep my ''guns''?" Chris and Allison walk out of her room. Then:\
"'''''ANOTHER WEREWOLF?!''''' ".
* {{Deuteragonist}}: While the main plot follows Scott trying to learn how to be a better werewolf, there is a parallel plot about Allison learning to become a better hunter. The two plots naturally intersect due to shared high school drama and the occasional pressing need to save Beacon Hills.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: She eventually bleeds out in Scott's arms, much to his devastation. Topped off when she tells him she loves him.
* TheDragon: After her mother is DrivenToSuicide, Allison steps up to lead the hunters, but is really just a pawn of [[TheManBehindTheMan her grandfather, Gerard]]. Though she's nominally the leader, the relative balance of combat prowess to scheming makes her the enforcer of Gerard's will.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: When she begins working with her evil grandfather in Season 2, she starts wearing all-black. She gets better (and her wardrobe gets brighter) in season 3.
* FaceHeelTurn: Allison has a tendency to be recruited by less scrupulous members of her family to be part of their evil, anti-werewolf schemes.
** Near the end of Season 1, her aunt Kate recruits her as a sidekick to help deal with the Alpha. Allison's discomfort with Kate's methods stop the turn from sticking.
** In Season 2, when her mother, Victoria, is DrivenToSuicide, Allison's grandfather, Gerard, pushes her to lead the hunters in a werewolf purge. Unlike the first time, Allison's heart is in it, which leads to her doing her damned hardest to hunt down and kill Derek and his Pack, outright almost murdering Erica and Boyd.
** [[spoiler:And in the movie, after being resurrected she CameBackWrong, missing most of her memories and quickly being manipulated by the Nogitsune into becoming an implacable hunter out to kill her best friends and true love. Scott is eventually able to rekindle her more gentle memories, and Lydia eventually restores them all, turning her back.]]
* FirstLove: To Scott and Isaac.
* FallenHero: In Season 2, the CynicismCatalyst of the death of her mother kicks Allison towards being a fanatical hunter, out to kill Derek's Pack. In Season 3A, once she learns of the circumstances that lead to her mother's suicide, she basically became TheHero again.
* GirlNextDoor: In Season 1, Allison is the pretty, kind, sweet girl who is easy to befriend, in contrast to the more socially conscious Lydia.
* GoodBadGirl: Downplayed, but she's definitely not the innocent Girl Next Door she appears. She encourages Scott to succeed at bowling by telling him to picture her naked. When Scott had dinner with her family, so he could find a bullet Kate had poisoned Derek with, when Kate confronts Scott about going through her bags, Allison says she's the one who did it, and produces a condom, daring her dad or aunt to make a big deal out of it. Then there's her deciding to see how serious Isaac is about their Unresolved Sexual Tension by basically tearing off her shirt and glaring at him wearing only a bra as if to say "You want me, here I am!"
* HasAType: Werewolves, much to her father's chagrin: her dating Scott was bad enough. Then she gets with Isaac, prompting an exasperated "''Another'' werewolf?!" out of Chris.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: In the first two seasons, Allison is pulled between her (mostly) innocent friends and her (mostly) ruthless family. She's usually trying to keep someone alive and safe - Derek's Pack members being a bit of an exception after he inadvertently bit her mother, leading to her suicide. [[spoiler:In the movie, she starts as an antagonist, bereft of most of her memories and maniupulated by the Nogitsune, before ultimately becoming good again after first Scott then Lydia get her to remember her life.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: Though Allison twice joins evil family members to kill werewolves, she never sticks around once she realizes just how far they're willing to go.
* HeroicBSOD
** When Kate reveals the existence of werewolves in Season 1, Allison almost completely shuts down.
** In Season 2, the death of her mother triggers another breakdown.
* HiddenDepths: Allison is surprisingly skilled in gymnastics and archery and is willing to live a little wilder than her good-girl persona initially suggests. Secretly frustrated by her "weakness", she tries to harden herself in the face of tragedy, but almost becomes as "monstrous" as the werewolves themselves; it's only when she manages to reconcile her protective instincts and her empathy that she becomes master of her own actions instead of a pawn of her less than savory relatives.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Speared by an Oni in the penultimate episode of Season 3, leading to her death.
* InTheBlood: Allison is the latest in a line of werewolf hunters descended from one of the first recorded werewolf hunters, in medieval France.
* KilledMidSentence: "You have to tell my dad! You have to tell him -- *cue DeadHandShot*.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:She suffers from this in the movie, only remembering the very few bits and pieces that let her remember that the Hales are werewolves and she's supposed to hunt them, becoming an unwitting pawn for the Nogitsune. Scott and Lydia manage to break through in the climax, and she survives this time.]]
* MafiaPrincess: She is at first completely oblivious to her family's "business".
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: Once Allison starts her training as a werewolf hunter, Scott and Allison find themselves on opposite sides of TheMasquerade. This twice comes between them: when Allison first discovers Scott is one of the werewolves her family is hunting and when Allison's mother gets Bitten, causing Allison to be a lot less sympathetic to werewolves in general.
* MoralityPet: Allison is this, unknowingly at first to Scott. Thinking about her keeps Scott in control, keeps him from wolfing out and killing someone.
** She's also seems to be a MoralityChain for her family, particularly her father who wholeheartedly agrees with her to rework their CodeOfHonor from HunterOfMonsters to guardians, even to supernatural creatures in Season 3. Although devastated, her father continues to upholds her code even after her death to the point of protecting innocent werewolves.
** Allison also appears to be one for her CoolAunt Kate who appeared to genuinely care for her. Didn't stop Kate from being TheSociopath though.
* NewTransferStudent: Moves to Beacon Hills in the pilot, walks into class and is introduced with the classic "Class, we have a new student today" speech from every anime ever.
* NiceGirl: She's generally friendly and sweet, in contrast to Lydia, who especially at first fills more of an AlphaBitch role. After her mom dies, this sweetness temporarily disappears.
* OnlyFriend: The show is on a miniature budget, so NiceGirl Allison and popularity queen Lydia appear to be each other's only friends.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Before her family legacy as hunters is revealed to her, Allison is the everyday high school girl.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Allison's secondary romance with Isaac Lahey is [[{{ShipTease}} teased]] during 3a until Allison makes a sacrificial ritual to rescue her father and Isaac acts as her tether - an individual who ''pulls her back''. By 3b they're dating.
* SacrificialLion: Allison goes along with the Pack to rescue Lydia, her best friend from the Nogitsune; she saves Isaac Lahey, her current boyfriend, from being mauled by the Oni by destroying the demon by firing an arrow into its chest - right before she's impaled by another Oni, dying in her ex-boyfriend Scott's arms. All her friends are still torn up over her death in Season 4.
* SheWhoFightsMonsters: In Season 2, the death of her mother, Victoria, in [[DrivenToSuicide a werewolf-transformation-preventing suicide]] turns Allison into a werewolf hunter whose main goal is to hunt and kill as many werewolves as possible, becoming just as out of control as the creatures she is fighting.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She promised herself that she wouldn't get involved with a boyfriend because she was looking for a nice, decent guy. Enter Scott [=McCall=].
* StarCrossedLovers: Allison and Scott. He's a werewolf; she's a werewolf hunter.
* UnwittingPawn: Her grandfather Gerard shamelessly uses her grief for her mother's death for his own gain.

->''"Like my mother used to say: I'm a predator. I don't have to be a killer."''

The original Beta werewolf in town, Derek is a swirling mass of mistrust, misplaced aggression and anti-social behavior. He seeks out Scott after he is bitten and offers his help, but his standoffishness and secrecy often let Scott to question his motives. It takes a good long while for the teens to look beyond his brooding exterior, and for Derek to let down his guard enough to open up; his interactions with them eventually cause him to question his outlook on life and start readjusting his behavior, without quite losing his sarcastic edge. Over time, he becomes an ally and trusted friend to Scott and his friends.
----
* {{Animorphism}}: Is able to shape shift into a full wolf form by the end of Season 4, something that's very rare for Betas.
* AntiHero: He's well-intentioned, but his methods can be somewhat rough, believing that a CrapsackWorld demands harsh methods in order for everyone to survive. In earlier seasons that leads to him torturing suspects, and deciding he needs to kill the kanima to stop its murder spree especially after he knows it's Jackson; later on, he does things like yell at the twins until they are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect Scott.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: While Derek is an Alpha, he is significantly stronger and tougher than other werewolves. Subverted in Monstrous, in Season 4, where he has temporarily lost his werewolf powers, but is still taking charge of a rag tag group of fugitives and a handful of fighters, complete with a RousingSpeech.
* BackForTheFinale: At the ending he joins the fight against the [[SupernaturalFearInducer Anuk-Ite]] and Gerard and Monroe's army of hunters with Scott and even brings Stiles.
* BerserkButton: Never insult his fallen family members. He also really doesn't like werewolf hunters. This makes Kate ''exceptionally'' good at pushing it.
--> '''Hunter:''' Maybe he's out... burying a bone in the backyard.
--> '''Kate:''' Really? A dog joke? You're going there and that's the best you got? If you want to provoke him, say something like... too bad your sister bit it before she had her first litter. Too bad she howled like a ''bitch''... WHEN WE CUT HER IN HALF!
* BigBrotherBully[=/=]BigBrotherInstinct: Derek really wants to help and protect Scott and later on his Betas, but he's so paranoid and generally inept at dealing with formerly human werewolves, he regularly comes across as a bullying DrillSergeantNasty. This gets much better when he learns to be a little less paranoid and violent over the course of the show.
* BigBrotherMentor: From the beginning, Derek takes Scott under his wing, although his methods are rather questionable. He also takes on this role for his own Betas, Boyd, Erica, and Isaac, in Season 2, and, with changed methods and to much greater success, for his revealed-to-be-alive sister Cora, Ethan and Aiden in Season 3, and Liam in Season 4.
* BloodKnight: Derek sometimes loves a good fight as shown in season two where he has some fun fighting Scott.
* BrokenBird: His whole life from fifteen onward is one big downward spiral. The first time we meet him he's just lost his sister Laura, the last of his family and his Alpha. Six years before that he lost most of his family and made to feel it was his own fault after he was seduced by Kate Argent (a much older woman who preyed on an already depressed and tramatized teenager) who had only months before been forced to give his FirstLove Paige a MercyKill. Things do not get easier for him throughout the show.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Invoked in Season 4, after a spell cast on him by Kate to have him regressed to his teenage self wears off, he gradually loses his werewolf powers leaving him totally human. It's only temporary though as it was part of the process of "evolving" achieving his {{Animorphism}}.
* BrutalHonesty: More often than not, Derek doesn't sugarcoat the truth. He's pretty open and straight to the point when it comes to his own opinions.
* ButtMonkey: He's been shot, poisoned, apparently murdered, tortured and beaten, his romantic relationships have ended in tragedy and betrayal by way of setting the stakes and showing off the worst the baddies can offer. Nothing good happens to him. Subverted in Season 4 when he finally catches a break with a brief casual relationship with the [[MsFanservice sexy]] [[ActionGirl mercenary]] Braeden.
* CannotSpitItOut: In the first two seasons, Derek is so suspicious and paranoid due to his DarkAndTroubledPast, he never states anything clearly that couldn't also be phrased as a cryptic non-answer. Most of the early miscommunications between him and Scott, and him and Deaton stem from this trait.
* CoolCar: In the first two seasons, Derek owns a black 2010 Chevrolet Camaro - one of the earliest signs that he's probably not poor, despite living in the ruins of his old family home.
* CynicalMentor: Whether it's to Scott or to his Betas, he's not the best mentor around. He also tends to instinctively see the worst in people and often leaps to conclusions based on worst case scenarios.
* TheComicallySerious: His glaring or hostile reactions to other people's actions, especially Stiles', are often much funnier than the initial joke.
* TheCynic: Derek is very cynical, jaded and pessimistic, believing that the world is nothing but a dark, lonely and dangerous place and that everything bad that can happen, will happen.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Several years before the start of the show, his whole family was murdered by Kate Argent, who seduced him to find out information about his family. Derek obviously didn't take it too well. Later, it’s also revealed that his first love died due to her body rejecting an Alpha's Bite, leading to him turning from a [[CheerfulChild happy teenager]] into the emotionally detached person he is today.
* DeathGlare: Derek will often stare down his opponents whenever he is preparing to attack or fight. This also seems to be his default look as he barley even smiles.
* DesperatelyCravesAffection: He really tries hard to win Scott's approval, and the pack he builds in Season 2 is basically a collection of lonely teenage misfits lacking affection themselves. Unfortunately, due to NoSocialSkills, his methods pretty much doom him to fail.
* DestructiveRomance: Derek's relationship with Kate Argent not only destroyed him as a person, but also got his entire family killed.
* DisapprovingLook: Derek gives one to Isaac as he tries to talk to him about Cora, Derek's younger sister.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: Justified; he's been shot repeatedly. Doubly subverted in Season 4 when he is taught by Braeden how to use firearms to defend himself when he's BroughtDownToNormal, but ultimately rejects them by the season finale.
* DontSneakUpOnMeLikeThat: Derek ''really'' doesn't like being surprised, which is especially ironic, given that he's the champion of the StealthHiBye.
* DrillSergeantNasty: He's pretty brutal when training the younger Pack members, though he only does it because he really thinks it's the best way to keep them safe.
* FaceHeelRevolvingDoor: In the first two seasons, the narrative has him walk through this in circles, mostly because he's usually interested in surviving rather than being good (or evil, for that matter). At some point, it turns out he does this less by personal inclination, but mostly because he's convinced everyone else is just out for survival, too. Scott and his friends are a major reason he changes this outlook
* GoodIsNotNice: Although his goodness is a bit ambiguous in the beginning, Derek owns this trope at least from late Season 2 onwards, while never quite losing his grumpy attitude.
* GoodParents: [[spoiler:He grows into a mature and functioning father once he has Eli, and he goes out of his way to make sure Eli keeps himself safe.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: He protects Beacon Hills from supernatural threats like the Kanima but to the majority of the residents he is a vicious criminal - in part because Scott and Stiles got him arrested for his sister's murder in Season 1.
* HeroicBSOD: Has two: when Kali forces him to kill Boyd and in a flashback, when he [[MercyKill ends the suffering]] of his first girlfriend Paige whose body violently rejects the werewolf transformation.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Restrains the Nogitsune and dies in Parrish's hellfire to keep Eli safe.]]
* HellBentForLeather: Derek owns several attractive leather jackets. And when he forms his own pack, his betas all get matching leather jackets!
* HisStoryRepeatsItself: Both Derek and Scott have fallen in love with an Argent (Kate and Allison respectively). They are also both left [[DiedInYourArmsTonight cradling the body]] of heir first loves when they die.
* HumblePie: After becoming an Alpha and building his pack, Derek becomes incredibly cocky and sure of all of his decisions and abilities. All of that changes over the course of Season 2 after realizing a few truths; the Kanima and Gerard are too much for him to handle, Scott rejects his authority no matter how much he tries to force him into submission, and he has no actual idea how to effectively train and protect his betas, leading to all of them leaving him. It takes a few WhatTheHellHero speeches from Scott, Deaton and Peter of all people to make him snap out of it.
* InterspeciesRomance: Has had ''four'' so far in the series. Derek is a werewolf who has dated primarily human girls - his first girlfriend Paige, his affair with the werewolf hunter Kate Argent both of when he was in his teens, with Jennifer Blake in Season 3A - who was also a Darach, a dark version of a {{Druid}} - and Braeden in Season 4.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Derek's often rough and standoffish with people, but even early on, he goes out of his way to protect people. Notable examples are shoving Scott out of the line of fire in Season 1, trying to protect Stiles from the Kanima in Season 2, and shielding Chris Argent from an explosion in Season 3B.
* KnightInSourArmour: Derek is extremely cynical about life in general, but he doesn't give up and keeps trying to do the right thing.
* TheLancer: After giving up trying to be the most powerful werewolf in Beacon Hills, he effectively becomes Scott's werewolf lieutenant, advising him as good as he can, and motivating others to support Scott's cause.
* LonersAreFreaks: Invoked in Season 1, where Derek lives in the burned-out ruins of the Hale family home and stalks Scott at school, and exaggerated in Season 2, when he likes to stand around in run-down subway trains illuminated only by his red eyes, and trains other people to stalk other teenagers both in school and at home. It's a rather poignant sign that he is doing better when he stops this kind of behavior and moves into an actual apartment in Season 3.
* MrFanservice: Not a Season has gone by where Derek hasn't been shirtless or wearing a tight-fitted top that shows off his muscles. In Season 1, Stiles is even able to manipulate Danny into some pro boner.. er, bono hacking by making Derek change shirts in front of them.
* MoralityPet: He has a ''lot'' of them. Originally it is Scott and (sometimes) Stiles who push him towards a more idealistic approach; later on, the list grows to include his Betas Isaac, Erica and Boyd, then later on his younger sister Cora.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: If someone has a personal bubble, Derek is going to invade it. He does this to practically everyone in the show, though Stiles tends to be the most common recipient.
* NoSocialSkills: Derek's cryptic and standoffish behavior isn't that strange by werewolf standards, but he often comes across as an anti-social creeper to humans.
* NotQuiteDead: Happens so often to him, that it's becoming a running gag: In Season 1, he seemingly gets murdered by the Alpha, in Season 3 he apparently falls to his death fighting Ennis, and in Season 4 he seems to succumb to his wounds, after having been stabbed by a Berserker, but as part of his {{Animorphism}} evolution complete with a BackFromTheDead.
* OffscreenTeleportation: Derek seems to appear out of nowhere in the weirdest places, including the boys' locker room.
* PapaWolf: [[spoiler:He ends up becoming one for Eli, his son in the movie. He ends up performing a heroic sacrifice to keep him and the world safe from the Nogitsune.]]
* PassingTheTorch: Ends up doing this to Scott in Season 3 "Riddled", declaring him the new protector of Beacon Hills.
* PermaStubble: Despite usually looking impeccably groomed, Derek somehow never finds the time to shave. It certainly adds to his cooler older werewolf charm.
* PerpetualFrowner: The number of times he actually smiles on the entire show can be counted on one hand. When he does, though, his smile could stop traffic.
* PoorCommunicationKills: A lot of the issues between him and Scott in the first two seasons could have been avoided, if Derek had ever taken the time to just sit Scott down and talk to him, instead of being mysterious and evasive.
* PutOnABus: In Season 5, he is somewhere that is not Beacon Hills, due to Tyler Hoechlin taking time off to concentrate on doing movies.
** TheBusCameBack: In the last episodes of season 6. In the last episode two years flashforward, he's still at Beacon Hills and part of Scott's group.
* RoaringRampageofRevenge/[[RoaringRampageOfRescue Rescue]]: In season 1 he's searching for the Alpha who killed his sister Laura. Also he goes on one during season 3 when Erica and Boyd are captured only to find out that Erica was killed. Season 4 when Kate Argent turns out to be alive but is a werejaguar. He then is ready to go after her because she turned him into a teen and reduced his werewolf abilities.
* SecretlyWealthy: Despite initially living in abandoned buildings and having no apparent job, he somehow manages to keep expensive vehicles, clothes, and even a loft later on. Season 4 reveals that he doesn't just own his loft, but the entire building.
* ShirtlessScene: Derek probably has the most shirtless scenes out of all the main cast.
* SlasherSmile: Initially does this when the Nogitsune corrupts his mind when he tries to burn Chris Argent.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: During the first few seasons, Derek is really busy stalking Scott and later on his own betas, usually to make sure they don't get out of control and kill anyone. In Season 3B, he's tracking Scott again, this time to make sure he is safe from the Oni.
* StealthHiBye: Derek's primary method of entering scenes is showing up just after everyone else is convinced no one else is around. It tends to freak the other characters out a bit.
* TheStoic: Derek is definitely not one to express his emotions.
* SurvivorGuilt: Derek feels guilty over surviving an awful lot of people: first and foremost his family, whom Kate had an easier time tracking down due to seducing him as a teenager, but also the death of his first girlfriend, Paige, and later on the deaths of his Betas Boyd and Erica.
* TallDarkAndSnarky: Derek is the epitome of this in the first few seasons, being a dark-haired, brooding, sarcastic loner dressed all in black. He does get a little less byronic later on, and even starts to wear a few colors, but the snark pretty much stays.
* TeachHimAnger: How he got control over his werewolf form. It is revealed when Peter was the one to teach him this.
* TookALevelInKindness: Initially Derek was the AntiHero, TheCynic and the ByronicHero with NoSocialSkills of the show, his behaviour does improve with the appearance of his MoralityPets. These include Scott, and later on his Betas. The real turning point was the revelation of his NotQuiteDead younger sister Cora and his sacrificing his Alpha powers to save her from death to the point he steadfastedly supports Scott's cause and ideals; he even solves his differences with werewolf hunter Chris Argent.
* TroubledButCute: A TallDarkAndHandsome loner with a troubled past.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: He was very much like Scott as a teenager. The traumatic death of his first girlfriend changed that.

[[folder:Kira]]

!!Kira Yukimura (portrayed by Arden Cho)
[[quoteright:340:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirayukimura_6.jpg]]

->''"Hi, I'm Kira. You knew that. I knew you knew that. I don't know why I just told you that again."''

Kira is the half-Japanese, half-Korean NewTransferStudent to Beacon Hills who instantly falls for Scott. From her mother's side, she has inherited the abilities of the thunder kitsune, which she was unaware of until she was drawn into the conflict against the Nogitsune, wherein her powers awaken and prove to be valuable against the chaos.
----
* ActionGirl: With her katana skills and Kitsune abilities, Kira can hold her own against dangerous foes and frequently takes up most of the action in combat alongside Scott.
* AllAsiansKnowMartialArts: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]]: she had no clue of her abilities ''until'' her lineage awoke, and even then she still was shocked at her fighting skill.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Her father Ken loudly admits her crush on Scott while he's ''less than a few feet'' away from Kira.
* AmbiguousSituation: Her sword is found in the dead body of an unnamed red-haired female Chimera at the [=McCall=] house in Season 5. She's arrested for it by Stilinski. Though Kira ''could'' have killed the girl [[NotHimself under the possession]] of her [[SuperpoweredEvilSide fox spirit]], it could also have been the [[BigBad Dread Doctors]] whom were killing the Chimeras that were failing [[FrameUp using her sword]] at Theo's behest to further his plans [[TheUsurper usurp the pack]]. It's never clarified if Kira did or didn't kill the girl.
* AsianFoxSpirit: Though Kira is a kitsune and has many of the related powers, transforming into a fox doesn't seem to be one of them. However, she does have a fox related BattleAura come Season 5.
* BattleAura: Displays this in Season 5, which generates a flame-like aura around herself. Turns out this evolution was the result of the [[MadScientist Dread Doctors experimenting on her]].
* BattleCouple: With Scott.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Scott, as they're both kind, idealistic, albeit rather dorky heroes just trying to keep everyone safe.
* BloodKnight: In Season 5, the kitsune side of Kira is starting to affect her, vying for independene, [[IncrediblyLamePun burning]] to kill people. She cut off Tracy's kanima tail and likely would have beheaded the Chimera Lucas, who had just returned to his normal self, if Scott hadn't forcibly stopped her, and later attempts to [[AntagonisticOffspring kill her own mother]] during a training session.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Kira ''is'' rather cute, and isn't very coordinated ... unless she's holding a katana. Turns out it's because of her Kitsune side.
* DorkKnight: Just like Scott, Kira doesn't let being a ball of social awkwardness stop her from stepping up to protect the town of Beacon Hills.
* ElementalPowers: As a Thunder Kitsune, Kira is able to control and utilize electricity.
* FauxFlame: As part of her Kitsune nature, Kira is surrounded by a nimbus of golden flames that's only visible to those with supernatural eyesight or by flash photography. Until Season 5 when she develops a BattleAura.
* GenkiGirl: Early on, Kira often tended to slip into bubbling enthusiasm, especially regarding Scott.
* HeadTurningBeauty: She deliberately [[HoneyTrap invokes this]] (correction - the Pack convinces her to) in Season 4 "The Benefactor" on a recently-Bitten Liam to lure him to Scott's Pack so they can gain his trust. She does this with a flirtatious SupermodelStrut down a set of stairs - [[PlayedforLaughs played for laughs]] when she [[FemininityFailure loses her balance and falls right in front of him!]]
* HealingFactor: In the Season 4 finale, Kira learns how to trigger her Kitsune healing while at the same time forging her first Kitsune Tail taking it up to eleven.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Her grasp on her kitsune abilities is tenuous at best, leading her to, for example, blow out a lightbulb while attempting to use her powers on it. As the series goes on, she gets better lighting up an entire room perfectly, and later perfecting the talent to siphon electricity.
* ImpossiblyCoolWeapon: In Season 5, she wields a katana that can be turned into a belt.
* InstantExpert: Over ''one'' episode she can expertly wield a katana sword. Noshiko, her mom, says it gives her balance.
** Also, in Season 4 episode "Muted" she instantly catches a lacrosse ball with a mesh stick and Coach asks her to join the team.
* InterspeciesRomance: One of the many on the show, Kira is a kitsune who's dating Scott, a werewolf.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Kira's katana, inherited from her mother Noshiko is the only sword getting any practical battle use, contrasting with Gerard's broadsword only being used for executions. Also when she forges her first Kitsune Tail with a shard of obsidian, it is altered into a shuriken.
* TheKlutz: She can kick ass on the battle field but that doesn't mean she won't trip down stairs trying to seduce you.
* LadyOfWar: Has a certain elegance in her battle style that the other heroes lack.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: Inverted. Her powers are inherited from her kitsune mother.
* MotorMouth: When she gets nervous or shy, she tends to speak ''very'' quickly.
* NewTransferStudent: Halfway through Season 3, Kira transfers to Beacon Hills High School when her father gets a job there.
* NiceGirl: Not that any of the other main characters are necessarily ''mean'', but she's probably the nicest out of them, being the most friendly and approachable.
* OrangeAndBlueMorality: Her [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Kitsune Fox Spirit]] becomes a lot more independent in Season 5. In contrast to Kira being a natural ActionHero and NiceGirl, the priorities of Fox don't fall in line with those of Kira. [[spoiler:The Fox is by far more aggressive and violent to the point of assaulting fellow students, attempting to kill a helpless enemy and even ''Kira's own mother''. In contrast to Kira, the Fox [[NotHimself also speaks Japanese]]]].
%%* PromotedToOpeningTitles: For Season 4.
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler:At the end of Season 5, she leaves with skin-walkers to learn how to fully navigate her Fox spirit and unlike many other past characters, does not return for season 6]].
* SecondLove: To Scott. He spends 3a getting over his break up with Allison at the end of Season 2 and develops feelings for Kira in 3b.
* ShockAndAwe: Kira is a ''Thunder'' Kitsune. Try to attack her with electricity - she is immune and will absorb the power. She touches an enemy she goes up against - she'll electrocute them.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Scott's friendliness and kindness when she's a shy new student wins her over fast. Not surprising given she's such a [[{{NiceGuy}} Nice Girl]] herself.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: When her kitsune side shows, Kira's eyes take on an flaming orange color.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the span of a few episodes in Season 3, Kira moves from being a socially awkward, powerless NewTransferStudent with a tenuous understanding of her [[AsianFoxSpirit Kitsune]] powers to a badass swordswoman able to go par to par with the Oni controlled by the Nogitsune.
* UnwittingPawn: When the protagonists are lead to Eichen House, Kira's Thunder kitsune abilities disrupts [[LeyLine the defenses]] of Eichen House against certain supernatural intruders, allowing the Dread Doctors to enter the premises.
* UnwittingTestSubject: In Season 5 "Ouroboros", it's revealed Kira was experimented upon by the Dread Doctors, which resulted in her power being increased, giving birth to her SuperpoweredEvilSide, but was [[LaserGuidedAmnesia made to forget it]], so the Doctors could use her to their advantage.
%%* VoiceOfTheLegion: When her inherent fox part of her takes possession.
